With WvW being so stale, I propose a few easy changes that will incentivize playing WvW again. While the Seasons were more harmful than helpful, some of the perks from it were great.
Guild Leaderboards!!!
Keeps track of top 30 guilds weekly combat record
Most # of objectives captured
Most enemies killed
Longest Held Objective
Most # of successful objective defenses
Highest guild K/D ratio
Highest number of stomps
Most Bloodlust captures (with 3+ guild members)
Most yaks killed
Most camps captured
Weekly Meta Achievement – Gives AP and a currency like the Ascended Shards of Glory to help get ascended armors (about the same drop rate as finishing one reward track line in the current pvp league. Should take 3 weeks or so to get one piece of armor/weapon.
Weekly Challenges
Killing Spree – kill X enemies within Y amount of time
Havoc Squad – Capture X number of objectives with 5 or less players
Hold the keep – Keep a keep(or tower) until it is T3
Hungry Hunter – Kill x number of players without food or utilities active

Taken from Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/5q01zg/wtb_something_so_i_can_craft_items_faster/
TL:DR: Please make crafting of basic items like Mithril Ingots, Elder Wood Planks etc faster. A new mastery or just a code update would be very nice ways of resolving that.
The crafting system is hindered with the current design of the game, in particular when it comes to legendary weapons. In short, some items take way longer than they should to craft per item.
Quoting TehAn0mollie:
“Some things take longer than others of the same general type to craft/refine… that’s the fix I want to see.
For example, it’s faster to refine alloy metals than ingots of a pure one (steel ingots actually take less time to craft than iron ingots).
Wood takes longer than any other material to refine. Making pulp and paper is faster than refining a single log into a plank.
Trident pieces in artificer take like 3x longer to make than similar items on any other weapon crafter for no good reason.
These kinds of things getting normalized to the fastest available craft/refinement speed is what I would like.
They were willing to wreck their economy on leather in the name of “normalizing” their crafting system (“cloth” patches) /salt"
Can we get a red post acknowledging that this was seen and mentioned to the teams? I understand this is low hanging fruit but it sure would be a nice quality of life item.
Anet, this is one hell of a serious oversight. This was one of our loudest complaints all the way up to the Desert Borderlands. I get it, you ignored us for years. It’s easy to forget things when you weren’t listening in the first place.
You seem to be listening now. Fix this, and fix it fast. We are counting on you to make things happen quickly because you FINALLY seem to care about us for once.
Stability is no longer one step above blind! The mele pain train is back baby!
While I wish my reaper stability wasn’t nerfed, I’m very happy with the improvement to stability. It is strong again, but doesn’t feel so overpowered that I can ignore CCs.
Working with ET the day after reset has been really good all around. After the initial sticker shock of reset night things have really gone very smoothly.
My guildies and I have been having a blast introducing ET to T1 fights and how to roll over some of those really big blobs YB throws at us.
To the ET players who always want to be on EB. The borderlands have been updated and improved immensely. Group up with a tag and come spend some time there. There is a LOT of fun to be had outside of EB.
Another BG Commander here,
To the ET players and guilds. Welcome to Tier 1. I’ve already spoken with quite a few BG guilds about us being allies and I want you to know everyone is excited to be your allies. We all genuinely look forward to working together and playing as friends.
For those concerned with the queues, the last time we saw queues like that was opening night of WvW Seasons. Everyone is excited to be back in a revived WvW. Like the other said, we are a pretty organized server and use a large community teamspeak. We would really love to help you get into teamspeak so we can work together more closely.
If any ET players want to tag up, you can expect BG members to follow you around too.
While a nice buff on it’s own, it becomes straight up ridiculous when trying to take a keep with this buff on the lord. For a T3 keep with full tactivators if that keep is defended by even slightly competent players the boss becomes a brick wall of impassibility.
During NA prime time, you will get map queue’s defending keeps. There have been dozens of times now where we will break through, destroy dozens of ACs, trebs, shield generators, and wipe the defenders and go up against the brick wall of an upscaled lord with iron guards.
Even with a full map queue beating the snot out of 1 NPC for a full minute, we barely do 15-25% dmg before we have to have everyone break off to kill another wave of defenders. We will either quickly wipe them and win the keep… or more likely have all but 10 players defending the choke points to keep the defenders out of the lord room. Those 10 high DPS players are then forced to beat on that upscaled lord for over 30 minutes non-stop and get it down to 5% then have everyone die because they got to pull chilling fog and an emergency waypoint for the 3rd time during the fight.
Things like Iron Guards, Super upscaling lords, short CD tactivators, and shrine buffs really make attacking a T3 keep completely not worth it unless there are little to no defenders. Days will go by during the week when no one will even bother making even a token effort at flipping those objectives.
I’ve watched one defending force simultaneously between air and fire keeps with non-stop successes with moderate numbers defending vs map queues simply because the lord takes so freaking long to kill and can be revived in combat in under a minute. Throw in 20 minute E. Waypoints and going on offense becomes a nearly futile effort.
I hope Anet considers the balance of offense vs defense a bit. I’ve seen so many battles where defeat was snatched from the jaws of victory because the lord simply cannot be killed while simultaneously fighting waves and waves of defenders.
The post above mine is far more articulate than mine was.
For the TL:DR, the scores are a PPT game. Coverage wins the PPT game. YB has people in timezones we don’t. Knowing that, we play to enjoy the game, enjoy playing with friends, to have a good time. Things are getting better, but won’t be what it was until ANet finally gets around to giving us something worth fighting for again.
Until Anet gives us some new shiney to work for, we are just playing casually for the fun of it, not for a 1st place prize that isn’t even worth coveting right now.

Title says it all
Mike O already stated that it doesn’t require a patch or anything. So when are we getting our delicious Friday WvW reset back?
The WvW keep lords upscale WAY too much!
I just spent 35 minutes of uninterrupted DPS on the fire keep lord with me and 15 guildies all in 90% berserker gear to get the lord down to 5%. While another guild of about 40 kept the enemy at bay.
No WvW keep lord should take that kitten long. We had to suffer through 2 chilling fogs and an emergency waypoint or two and STILL the lord wouldn’t die.
To top it off, that lord can be revived by players in combat within 12-15 seconds and come back for another 35 minutes to get it back down!
Please fix this crap. It’s really demotivational to know you earned that keep three times over having to break through a RIDICULOUS amount of siege and wipe their entire force twice and still not get it because the Lord was too strong.
1. Bring in mechanics that ENCOURAGE FIGHTS, including outnumbered fights.
ex) Bloodlust stomps for PPT
ex) Bonus loot/rank/something for winning outnumbered fights. Calculated per fight not via outnumbered buff.
ex) Outnumbered killing spree buff or something that makes me want to fight outnumbered
2. Bring in mechanics that make scouting useful.
ex) An aura buff given by a objective lord that allows players to mark enemy players or siege. The buff goes away if you move too far away from the objective
ex) Rewards for having that scouting buff, much like defense event but the buff goes away if you are idle/running into a wall for 5 mins.
3. Make towers/structures relevant. The north towers are so far away from the keep there is almost no reason to bother with them. Perhaps make owning them open up a new route to attack the keep. No the barricades are not making it relevant.
4. Make a new WvW map. Make Red BL Alpine, Blue BL the Desert, and Green BL something new. Make it not so terrible either. Everyone should WANT to be Green to defend their Gari on reset. Right now, everyone avoids it like the plague. No one wants to be on their home borderlands because the natural 2v1 is such a… pain. Also, level out some of the crap on the desert BL. 10 minutes of running to get to a fight is a serious demotivator. Getting stuck on a 8 inch tree or stairs is just BAD.
5. Alliances. Make the change. I love my server but for the health of the game we need to break the stale game mode and bring back real rivalries. Make alliances compete to be worthy of those precious off hours guilds.
Edit: Bonus: Someone needs to make an addon that will play killstreak sounds from Unreal Tournament. I miss hearing double kill, triple kill, M-M-M-MONSTER KILL!

This is spawning a huge discussion here and on reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/40826v/raids_7_weeks_later_xpost/
It’s been over 7 weeks since the release of the Spirit Vale raid and I wanted to review the raid from an experienced raiders perspective.
Arenanet’s stated intentions for raids:
Refer to their blog post about Raiding <a href=“https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/raids-in-guild-wars-2/”>“The ultimate challenge”</a>!
1. Raids will bring “challenges that will require your raiding team to bring a high level of skill, strategy, and coordination in order to succeed.”
2. “You’ll be dependent on keeping yourself alive and helping support your team while playing your profession. Everyone will be expected to pitch in and execute at a high level to ensure success.”
3. “Raids in Guild Wars 2 are not about waiting to have fun. You don’t need to wait for your healer to get online.”
4. “For each encounter, our goal is that you’ll need to face it many times to learn how to defeat it, continuing to develop your strategies, refining your communication and honing your tactics through practice, in order to execute to a high degree with the hope of eventually conquering it and moving on to the next encounter in the wing.”
5. The raids must be fun. (implied)
Does the Spirit Vale actually meet their stated goals?
Yes, on 4 out of 5 listed goals.
Each part of the raid does require a high degree of practice, tactics, communication, and execution. You must be able to keep yourself alive as no one can do that for you. You must do all you can to support your team (buffs, heals, etc) and you must be able to execute. The bosses and pre-events are enjoyable and refreshing fun to be had that you cannot just sleep through.
No, only one item #3. Many raids can be delayed 20 minutes to an hour due to one role (or class) not being filled. It is actually getting a bit worse as time goes on too. 99% of groups will not proceed without someone filling the healer role. The burnzerker meta is becoming so huge that many teams will ONLY take on Gorseval if they have 3+ burnzerkers. Some wait an hour just to have their burnzerkers.
My Overall Raid Grade: 9.5/10
The Raids are exceptionally well done and are absolutely the hard instanced content we have been waiting years for. I absolutely love them and really look forward to more hard raids in the future. Dungeons, fractals, and open world content are easy enough that people can be carried though them (Marionette is the exception). With that in mind, I have some thoughts for future raid wings that I hope the Dev’s keep in mind.
What made the fights fun?
My guild and I really enjoyed the difficult mechanics of each boss fight. Getting to the next Vale Guardian phase was a HUGE achievement for the guild. We posted each phase success on the guild website and MOTD until we finally killed it. The mechanics were tough, but understandable, fair, and unforgiving. We really had to become more skilled, focused, and team oriented to succeed.
What made Raids not fun
When we consistently got to phase 5 and the boss was enraging. We got the mechanics down but with the hard enrage timer we just kept failing and failing and getting nowhere. We hit a gear/food check. This is when we lost about 1/2 of our raiding force. We had to change up what classes we were bringing and what gear we had to get. We no longer had enough people to raid without getting pugs. So we made do with pugs who later became regular friend raiders. We made do and continued on to earn “The Eternal” but this point is where some rifts began to grow in many guilds.
Anet has wanted to get away from the berserker “meta” for sometime but unfortunately made that meta mandatory for raiding. Many people love hardcore content but do not want to be “meta.”
What is holding back raiding?
Honestly the only thing holding back raiding is the clock. If a team is skilled enough to survive a 3 minute phase 5 VG or can keep both themselves and the platforms alive during the Sabetha fight are they not hardcore and skilled players?
Gear is not skill.
Anet made the decision NOT to raise the level cap or make a gear tier above ascended. There is no gear treadmill to be able to play with your friends… except that there is an artificial one. If you are not a glass cannon, you are not welcome. Wearing Cleric armor to heal? Kick! need Zealots/Magi!!!
There will always be teams that will require the berserker meta. Let that be based on player preference instead of by the game mechanics.
I enjoy and play the berserker meta, but unfortunately I have to politely tell many of my friends and guildies to politely go away because their rabid gear is a liability to the team. Your WvW PTV gear will only get us killed.
What makes raids great?
You gave us a tough as hell 10 man dungeon with fun mechanics, awesome rewards(when earned), and a nice lil side story to go with it.
What hurts raids?
They are dividing players based on gear. We are not allowed to play how we want to play.
Final thoughts
For future raid wings, don’t require the berserker meta just to be ABLE to play. Let skill be the determining factor, not gear.
(edited by The Lethe.2953)
PREFACE:
When raids came out my guild was excited and willing to try it. We spent the first week bashing our face against the Vale Guardian wall before we finally beat him about 10 days after the raid came out. For this first week we had about 20 out of our 30 regulars give the raid dungeons a try, and only 15 kept going at it after the first few days.
Against Gorseval, we had about 14 try it out of 30 and only 7 or so who kept trying it. We’ve never beat it together. By now only 5-6 are willing to give it a go. We continuously need to augment with pugs. As a guild we have not even tried Sabetha. (except for the hardcore raiders).
I expect that the next raid wings will bring more apathy from the majority of my guild unless there is a significant change. They (mostly) have the skill to do the mechanics (with some survival gear/traits), but because of the DPS check they can’t beat gorseval and most have a very hard time with the Vale Guardian.
Yes, I am aware that Raids are tough as hell and are meant to be tough. However, I thought ANet wanted to do away with the berserker meta? It seems that is what the Raids are enforcing. Thieves are 99% pushed away because anything they can do Rev’s/wars can do better.
SUBSTANCE:
I recommend breaking the reward system into tiers or a sort. For those who can down the boss within X time limit, they earn the Gold reward (tokens + potential exclusive loot), X time they earn silver with just tokens, or X time with bronze with tokens.
Reward players for being able to beat the boss, regardless of using “meta” builds, give them that source of pride. On that note, make the silver and gold rewards significantly better so people have something worth fighting for.
Perhaps rewards for killing bosses in a certain order?
So happy to see RK back in action. One of my fav EU/NA timezone guilds
Can we get a red post?
TR:DR: The rare materials to craft these two stats are mixed up between the two recipes. Marauder inscriptions should require Agate Orbs & Crusader inscriptions should require Ebony Orbs.
Marauder stats: Power, Precision, Ferocity, Vitality
Requires: Ebony Orb – Stats: Power, TOUGHESS, ferocity, HEALING POWER
Two totally different stats
Crusader Stats: Power, toughness, ferocity, healing power
Requires: Agate Orb – Stats Power, PRECISION, Ferocity, VITALITY
WvW siege is NOT going back into my inventory. I am trying to throw siege and it vanishes in my hands. I’ve lost a LOT of siege this way. It will vanish just walking around, while trying to throw it, and any time it isn’t sitting into my inventory.
It just vanishes from my hands. Plz fix, commanding got a LOT pricier.

With HoT looking on the distant horizon there is still time for players, guilds, and worlds to prepare… for an influx of new and returning players in search of a home. Where will they go? Why will they go there? Do they know what they are getting into?
In an effort to help new players get an idea for a world before they decide to move there I propose a video challenge to entice new players. (Let’s face it, you wouldn’t want to commit to moving to a new state/city/country without at least checking out first right?)
This challenge isn’t only for new players but for the World’s own communities. Building a video that represents your world is a big deal and often will draw people together. (It worked wonders for my world)
TL:DR – I propose:
ANet host a challenge to any interested player to create a video that would represent their world for new HoT players.
Suggested Rules:
-1 Submission per player
-Unlimited submissions per world represented
-Videos must be no longer than 4 minutes
-No profanity
-No copyright issues (Music, art, speeches, etc)
-Videos should be judged on:
1. Representation of the entire World community
2. Showmanship
3. Artistic design
4. Bonus points for inclusion of as many guilds from the world as possible
Rewards:
Top video gets precursor
Top video from each world gets 400 gems
I would really love to see this happen. Can we get a red post to pass this along to the rest of the community team? Plz Plz plz!!!
Example video:

Normally I have optimism for ANet fixing problems eventually but on this issue we will not be getting resolution any time soon.
I’ve seen an tagged Dev running right past that invincible spot siege on TC to stop my small ops group from breaking their NW tower. If they can walk right past it while wearing their Arenanet tag and do nothing at that time… then the company doesn’t consider it an issue worth diverting resources towards.
I’d post the Dev’s name but sadly it just said Silver Tarnished Coast Defender. :\
I appreciate the high minded thinking Jon, but I think you guys went a little too high on that one. Just because one item will be technically correct by definition or association does not mean it translates well to the people who will be using it.
Dragon hunter sounds cool, but we are all afraid with the name + traps that the new guard spec will get as much love as the bow bear ranger… pew pew pew
I love tome of courage just the way it is. In sPvP I become a bunker to be feared. That 30 second protection, bonus 10k hp, pulsing stability. It is really a powerful combo and feel it would be strongly nerfed by switching to a signet. (granted it would still be very nice)
I honestly wish the tomes would become spirit weapons instead. :P
1. Add 5 minutes to the timer (too many matches we should of won was lost simply by points)
2. Add more players – guildies complain about too many fights you are better off just running from. More players will force the issue and build more 2v2 3v3 fights. Get a variety in fighting that is more team oriented.

Where can I park without being forced to take out a loan? The mall charged $13 for about 2-3 hours.
@ Morfedel, I empathize with you. I missed out on Saturday too but at the very least if you manage to snag a winning ticket you can at least go in the morning then spend the rest of the day with your daughter! I’m sure she would understand you going to something for a few hours
Thanks again Gaile for doing this. Here’s to hoping for plenty of tickets to all us fans. (and one to me too
Edit: Can you give us a hint at how many people have PM’ed you so far? How many tickets you are giving out?
With the upcoming Heart of Thorns (story/expansion/living universe/thing), please for the 6 Gods sake fix the guardian shield skills. Currently there is VERY little reason to ever use shield other than the knockback with a 40 second cooldown or you just love your shield skin.
rant deleted
As a Guardian with a love for his shields, I sincerely believe that the shield needs to become a viable weapon in PvE, PvP, and WvW. Currently it is only viable in PvP for the knockback and short protection it offers. It is currently VERY outclassed by both the focus and the torch. The focus is far more protective of a weapon than the shield in both blocks and blinds. The torch pumps out far more burns and damage with very low cooldowns.
For the shield to become a viable weapon it needs to be stronger and with lower cooldowns. (warrior shield could use an upgrade too btw)
SUGGESTED CHANGES:
#4. Shield of Judgement: Reduce normal cooldown by 5 seconds(currently 24 traited, 30 untraited). Add 4 seconds of retaliation boon. Consider making it a knockdown/stun/daze for 1-2 seconds. Reducing cooldown by 5 will get it down to 20 seconds traited, 25 untraited.
#5. Shield of Absorption: Reduce normal cooldown by 5 seconds (currently 32 traited, 40 untraited). Add blocking of normal attacks as well just like the warrior shield does. Make the burst heal skill a combo blast finisher for more retaliation since the first part of the skill is a light field. Reducing cooldown by 5 will get it down to 28 seconds traited, and 35 untraited.
Shield of Judgement in GW1 that was an Elite skill that was a prized skill of many monks. It was a boon that would knock down any enemy that hit you and dealt some solid damage back to them as well (think retaliation boon). Btw it also lasted about 19 seconds with a 35 second cooldown.
Shield of Absorption reduced incoming damage for a few seconds, similar to protection in GW2 but not as strong.
I would fix guardian shield skills.
- Shield of Judgement: ok damage, low protection time, long cool down
- Shield of Absorption: Blocks most projectiles, knockback, small burst heal, light field, very long cool down
Yes there is a trait to reduce cool down on shield skills, but even with the trait they are still very long cool downs. Currently the only reason to bring out the shield is in pvp for the knockback. That tiny heal is insignificant and doesn’t seem to scale well. Projectile blocking is nice but it locks you into position. The cooldown is brutal and really makes it a far weaker weapon than a focus (which actually blocks when a shield doesn’t)
Shield 4 is Shield of Judgement. In GW1 that was an Elite skill that was a prized skill of many monks. It was a boon that would knock down any enemy that hit you and dealt some solid damage back to them as well (think retaliation boon).
SUGGESTED CHANGES:
#4. SoJ: Reduce normal cooldown by 5 seconds. Add 4 seconds of retaliation boon. Consider making it a knockdown/stun/daze for 1-2 seconds
#5. SoA: Reduce normal cooldown by 5 seconds. Add blocking of normal attacks as well just like the warrior shield does. Make the burst heal skill a combo blast finisher for more retaliation since the first part of the skill is a light field.
I like the concept of a council to give a unified voice to the state of WvW.
What is the criteria for membership of said council? I don’t recall voting anyone from JQ to represent :-)
The meeting was open to any guild leader/officer who wished to attend, regardless of size and level of WvW activity. This was not an exclusive VIP ultra-blob commanders committee, this really was guilds who really give a kitten about our T1 community and we want to see it thrive.
On one hand, I’m proud to see the three servers coming together for the purpose of making our gaming experience better. On the other hand, it’s upsetting that the games staleness has forced the need for this. T2 is more active than T1 for now and that needs to change.
ANet, get some more support for your WvW team. Your diehard community really could use some significant love. Maybe redesign 2/3 borderlands so they are not just copy/paste of each other?
Maybe, make the wins count for something. Favor of the Gods style?
Currently the Squad features are very limited and largely useless/unused. I have an idea to change this. But first, a review of current features:
Current Squad features:
1. The Commander tag (1 of 4 colors)
2. Squad Chat (largely ignored, but possible useful for scouts without a mic in other borderlands)
3. Squad Waypoints – activated by the commander pressing M for the big map, holding alt, and clicking on a location, then clicking on what kind of waypoint they want (VERY slow, largely ignored)
4. Supplyinfo – The 2nd most important squad feature but still very short range. (still unclear if that is the supply in the squad or supply within 150 range.
Suggested changes:
1. ONLY When in a Squad, the commander also has a beam of light coming off of them into the sky (as seen in other gw1/2 missions where you are holding an object)
2 . Squad chat…. yea I still got nothing on this one really. Just make sure that it works across all maps.
3. Squad Waypoints – Create a hotkey for waypoints similar to Waypoints in games like Battlefield etc. Press the button and the waypoint will be marked wherever you are aiming at. The waypoint will glow with a light column into the sky as well as the mini map icon.
4. Supplyinfo – In the command printout, specify xxx supply within 150 range, xxx in squad. That will make it clear for new commanders.
Comments:
The Squad waypoints need to be hotkeys that can be placed and removed in combat quickly and easily. They have to be very easily seen in large numbers 30+ fights. They would revolutionize fighting as now you can have a back line commander giving the waypoints to the mele train. Regroup at waypoint and blast my water, etc. This allows you to direct your team without having to run yourself there first. This will allow for more accurate commanding as people don’t always understand where you intend people to go. (Go left… whos left?)
Commanders need some better highlighting in fights as they are too easy to lose in the sea of red. Giving them a beam of light for anyone who joins their squad is a powerful tool and incentive to get people to join squads.
Comment and share plz. This needs to be discussed. Also, can someone give screen shots/video to the examples I have given with the waypoint lights/commander lighting? I know what I am referring to but I don’t remember the missions that had that highlighting.

Thank you to the kind Dev for having the guts to throw out an idea for the community to poke holes in. We understand that it’s just an idea for discussion and not the current plan of action. Beware of trolls but remember we REALLY do love and appreciate THIS KIND of discussion.
*****End note****
While I liked what the red post has to say about Alliances… I do have some serious concerns that would need addressed.
Population imbalance by timezone:
Setting alliances against eachother that have max of say 5,000 players doesn’t solve timezone imbalances.
Lets say one alliance is very NA heavy, the other is of moderate NA population but also has a FAR larger SEA, OCX and EU population. The very NA heavy alliance could still be matched vs them but be TOTALLY blown out of the water just because of the TIMEZONE POPULATION!
New players/guildless players:
Please explain how new players and guildless players are supposed to:
A) Try WvW for the first time (not EOTM)
B) How do you join an Alliance?
—-Is it open invite like worlds are?
—-Or is it restricted like GW1 Alliances (because that comes with many new issues)
C) How do you change alliances?
D) What is the difference between Alliances and the current world system if its open invite?
From what I read an Alliance is just like a world, but it doesn’t count PvE only players against the player cap. If that is the case why not just alter the current World Population Cap to be based on WvW population?
Sorry if all that I have to say has been covered but I don’t have time this morning to read 12 pages.
<—- Blackgate here.
I saw a lot of Ballista trolling on TC BL, in particular North Camp and Garri. It left me and my guild quite a bit upset to see it. Trolls belong in a lil cave in queensdale, not in WvW. I really hope Anet reconsiders it’s stance on hardcore trolling like this. It’s one thing to do screw around with a door treb, but instances like 6 ballistas around the supply depo is malicious and should be ban-able offenses.
Yes, I want to win but I want to win with honor. To whomever is trolling the siege, grow up and get off the map. We have no use for you.
The blog post doesn’t say you have to purchase each color separately, and with the way it is written, it sounds like all colors are unlocked! PLEASE SAY IT IS SO!
“Greetings, Tyrians!
We are pleased to announce some changes coming to the commander system.
With the arrival of the September 2014 Feature Pack, Commander’s Compendiums will transition to be accountwide unlocks. You’ll always be able to use any character you’d like to help lead your comrades!
We’re also happy to announce that once you are a commander, you will have access to a variety of colors. Choose from red, yellow, purple, or classic blue to customize your commander icon!
commander-squad-selection-2
Up until now, commander tags have been character bound. With the added functionality of becoming account bound and the addition of new colors to choose from, the price of the Commander’s Compendium will be adjusted to 300 gold. Whether you have three characters, thirteen characters, or even more, you will need to make this purchase only once!
Existing commanders will be grandfathered into this new system. If you’re already a commander, please enjoy this additional upgrade.
commander-icon-ui-2
This new assortment of colors will facilitate a range of tactical uses. For example, in World vs. World, you could select one color to represent an assaulting commander and another to designate a defending commander. In open world events, you might coordinate your efforts with other commanders by tagging up with different colors to help organize groups. Or you can just grab your favorite color to stand out from the crowd!
Moving forward, we’ll be evaluating future possibilities for recognizing experienced and prestigious commanders. Right now, we’re excited to empower commanders with the ability to use all of their characters and choose the color that best fits their needs! We can’t wait to see all the ways this feature is put to use."
Edit: I know they said it was 300g each before, but maybe they have reconsidered since the crap storm churning on the forums and reddit.
I had a big idea when I heard people arguing over coverage and I had to share it here. Change wvw weeks into a week long series similar to baseball.
This idea directly addresses 2 things.
1. As the week goes on people stop playing because of the huge gap in ppt. Many weeks are decided by Sunday or Monday. (this is bad)
2. Huge coverage gaps can create unbreakable T3 upgrades and demoralize a world to the point they don’t show up.
The idea:
Every day will be a wvw reset instead of just on Friday. Each day will be counted towards the series. Each series will last 1 week. 5 points for 1st ,3 for 2nd 1 for 3rd. At the end of the week total points (not ppt) will be totaled).
What this does is it limits (or exacerbates) the amount of impact that timezone has on wvw. This way you don’t have to worry about worlds holding keeps T3 for days on end. Each day is a fresh start and another hard battle.
Say you only have to take 1st 3 days of the week if the others don’t take 3 days. The 1v1v1 dynamic can change easily and repeatedly and rapidly as the week changes. The chance to steal the win by weaker servers remains very strong as the week goes on!
Please give me your thoughts on this? What scenarios can you imagine? Would this help or hurt wvw?
In this episode of the Into The Mists podcast, The Lethe Guardian delves into the future of World vs World, what Arenanet is working on, ideas on how to improve WvW, future seasons, and more!
Please give feedback and discuss questions posed in the video!
I would be satisfied with just the traits and skills, much like it was in Guild Wars 1. At least in the short term.
Lets say we work on this in stages.
Stage 1:
- Saveable traits and skills
- Sharable in chat
Stage 2:
- Add equipment to the template
- Add dyes, skins, etc.
T1 might agree with you but for the other worlds, you can run a long time before you get a decent fight. If you want to make the maps feel larger… take out waypoints.
SoS will win week 9
Thanks for the positive comments and opinions. I have noticed that the thread has been renamed
These are some ideas for massive game changes for WvW. Credit goes to BAITness.1083 for the post that sparked this one.
Idea #1. Multi-World Teams
Goal: Keep world scores closer and more dynamic by combining the scores of worlds from multiple tiers.
Note* Akkadian posted this idea. It would require some big UI changes.
Fights take place over 3 tiers, involving 9 servers. The green server in t1 would be teamed up with the red server in t2 and the blue server in t3. The blue server in t1 would be teamed up with green in t2 and red in t3. The red server in t1 would be teamed up with blue in t2 and green in t3.
They are not all fighting on the same maps, mind you, the only real “teaming up” is from their scores. The servers still only fight in their tiers, but the winner at the end of the week is the team with the highest score. This allows every match to matter, every server to have a chance at first, and every server push to have an impact.
Idea #2. Desperation World Buff
Goal: Keep world scores closer and more dynamic by instituding a buff for losing worlds akin to the outmanned buff, emabling points upon capturing an objecive.
When the 3rd place world falls more than 15k points behind the 2nd place world, the Desperation World Buff activates. (similar to the outmanned buff) The buff, will grant your world points for every objective captured, just like in edge of the mists. This will enable worlds that have fallen behind to organize major comeback from behind. It is a major morale booster to make up 10k points in a day. Most matches are decided by Monday or Tuesday. This buff would allow for matches to swing on a Thursday. The point at which the buff would activate and deactivate is up for debate. (Set point difference, or percentage is ok too) The amount of points earned for capturing is also up for debate too.
Idea #3 Off-Season Rewards
Goal: Reward players for fighting for first even during the off seasons.
The reward tickets should not be restricted to only the tournaments. Grant 5 tickets for 1st place, 3 tickets for 2nd place, and 1 ticket for 3rd. Make the ticket reward bound to completion of at least 5 daily wvw activities per week.
Idea #4. Shorter and Regular Seasons
Goal: High rewads, less burnout.
Make the seasons run 5 weeks. No breaks between seasons.
There was a huge amount of downtime between seasons and WvW really died down during that time. The seasons have brought out the best and the worst in players. The 2v1’s are truly nasty with some serious venom coming out on the forums, that is creating a seriously toxic environment. With the shorter seasons and constant restarting of seasons, it enables a lot of changes to occur and prevents players from becoming too attached to the success or failure of a season. Season 1 ended with the implosion of SoR due to early season failures and many people abandoned hope knowing they could not recover to take 1st no matter how hard they played over the next 4-5 weeks. The same situation is starting to present itself but even worse with a 9 week season. This presents a dangerous situation for the current 2v1’s in both NA and EU. The toxic environment brewing in WvW is not healthy for the worlds or game as a whole.
Once again most of these are not my ideas, I can’t take credit, but I think they are worth talking about, and getting the Dev’s to talk internally about. (and posting here to mention that they showed other dev’s the post)
I encourage any Oceanic guild leader looking at this thread to seriously consider the move. You’ll be the only Oceanic WvW guild here, which would help our Oceanic PvX guild NOC out a lot. It will also alleviate a lot of NA commanders running overtime in order to give a good handoff to our SEA, who carry it onto EU and NA the next day.
Despite what the trolls are saying in this thread, our Oceanic presence right now is similar to a T3 server at best and is heavily reliant on NA and SEA guilds to play overtime to cover it. You can help change that. There will be plenty of fights against guilds like XPK, SoX, GC, HIRE, MERC etc. and plenty of challenges, with plenty of support from the rest of Beastgate.
Rev is speaking the truth. We seriously need help during the off hours. We are strong throughout most of the day but when NA goes to bed we bleed PPT and lose all upgrades that we have built up. We genuinely need your help.

Zoidberg isn’t kidding. Blackgate is pushing stupid crazy hours to win this week. We need it for morale and to show the world that we are still a contender for the crown. The last few weeks have been either 2nd or 3rd place with many borderlands consistently out-manned during NA prime. Heck when I see more than one map with a queue I am happy that people are back in the game.
The simple reality is we cannot burn the overtime for 9 weeks like we did this week. We need fresh commanders and fresh guilds, especially during Oceanic, South East Asian, and European time zones.
Blackgate has proven we are willing to put in the time and effort, but we are going to need help if we are going to have a serious shot at winning.
Hi there, The Lethe Guardian here, guild leader of the Soul Guard [SG] on Blackgate. I run a small PvX guild that has been on Blackgate from the beginning. For those guilds interested in transfering to a new home, let me tell you a bit about BG.
This server is a home, it has many family members in it. We love to game hard in everything we do, but we also love the friends we game with. We have fostered a welcoming community and a respectful and respectable War Counsel. We have dealt with all kinds of issues together, tried to weed out glitchers and hackers who ruin wvw for all worlds, and I am proud that when the topic of having spies tag watch on JQ or SoR and the entire server shot down that idea HARD. We want to win, but we want to do it legit.
Our WvW is strong most hours of the day, but some areas it is very vulnerable. Yes it is true Blackgate won Season 1 with a strong margin, but the situation has changed greatly. We have lost several of our strongest guilds that really made all the difference in Season 1. [COIN] and [ZD] have returned to their EU homes. We have some openings for new friends to fill. Which is why we are looking to invite you to join the fight!
This week is the closest between 3 servers since Week 1 of Season 1. TC and JQ have stepped up and strengthened themselves in the last few weeks and both are now full. With the servers rebalanced and the new tournament style, this is going to be a season worth remembering.
Final word:
Even as a smaller PvX guild, we have been treated with respect and give it to all others. We have no ultra ego emperors who try to control other guilds. We are a genuine and friendly place to live and fight. If you are a Oceanic, South East Asian, or European guild talk to Malevolent Omen, and we can talk more about if we are a right fit for each other.
We play to win and we are going to do it the right way. #Beastgate
To be honest, #4 needs overhauled. The shield needs to become a viable weapon. I have the flameseeker prophecies and I keep it in my bag 95% of the time. :’(
Here is my drastic idea for changing skills:
Skill #4 Shield of Judgement
- Send out a wave of energy knocking down foes in front of you (much like warrior mace) keep the same cooldown
Comment: HOLY CRAP THE SHIELD IS NOW USEFUL! I CAN FIGHT WITH IT!! OMGWTFBBQ!
Skill #5
Extend the duration 1-2 seconds and maybe buff the heal 5%, reduce cooldown by 5 seconds. (40 sec is pretty brutal, even traited)
It’s been around 18 hours since reset and this issue is still not being dealt with. Not even commented on by Anet at all. We are busting our chops on what maps we can but this is beyond unfair. ANET FIX THIS! And let us know you are at least aware of the problem and doing something about it.
