As some people stated already.
The change of max target cap for some CC-Skills together with the buff of Stability is too much.
The next thing is, that in my opinion that ICD is too high. I’d set it to 0.5s or even 0.25s. You should lose 1 stack of Stability for each CC you walk into and not just walk through several CC’s with just losing 1 stack.
I really don’t see your problem there.
This mechanic has nothing to do with “tanking” it’s just the one getting the buff has to move the boss, that’s all.
So you don’t need someone taking extra toughness or whatever, you can just run your normal builds. And it enforces to actually pay attention to the fight and not just brainless follow one tank.
Adept to it and don’t complain cause it doesn’t include “classic tanking”.
I salvage 2x chest armor, 1x pants and 1x amulet. I got 60 tokens/ea.
So 60/salvage and 40/mini.
I don’t really had an issue seeing it and you get a chat notification as well btw.
The rare times I check the forum, I’m always too late to answer something. xD
But as I’m in charge for the metabattle guardian stuff and ppl referred to it, I just would like to give me 2 cents.
Most ppl said it already. Hammer got a really good and high sustained DPS. When opening with Shield of Wrath + Symbol of Faith + Mighty Blow, the burst ain’t that bad, but you still can’t compare it with GS/LB or GS/Mace,Focus(Torch). Meanwhile the last to mentioned weapon choices doesn’t really have much different in DPS. And what got mentioned as well, Hammer really profits from perma quickness as the only thing you do is auto attack.
So yeah, for dungeons and low fractals I would not recommend playing Hammer unless you just don’t give a kitten about it. ^^
For higher fractals, Hammer is completely fine to play and might even be pretty helpful when pugging.
This issue does not only exist in PvP. Anet liked to add things that are unblockable.
Meanwhile they once said, that blocks and aegis are the compensation for the low hp pool.
So where is this compensation, when everything is unblockable?
Just Anet things.
And yeah, I’m not complaining, just pointing out the fact.
For the fact that some people kinda misunderstand the reason why we put guardian to “meta”.
It is of course not the best thing you would take for raids. If you want really fast kills, stack eles.
But, if you want to bring a guardian for raids, you should bring this one. It offers the best support of all offensive guardian builds while doing pretty good damage.
In theory condi reaper+engi might outdps the guardian, but dont forget that current raid bosses have invuln phases. Hammer guard doesn’t have to restack his conditions. Another thing is, you cant really mess up your “rotation”. It is super simple and for that, your DPS should be pretty consistent while some condi builds could have variations for the fact, that you can mess up your rotation, getting interrupted or whatever.
So yeah, hammer guard is prolly the easiest high dps build which offers quite some support as well. And yes, thief does more dps while just auto attacking but doesn’t bring anything else to the party.
Thank you for the answer
. One more question about VG. If it happens that I have to go ranged, should I trade LB for hammer or mace/shield?
For Mace/Shield.
Go melee with the hammer and when you have to go into a circle, swap to longbow and the swap back to hammer when being in melee range again. But yeah, as I said, you will lose quite some dps.
Hammer guard is 23k+ while losing nothing from using protection.
Jeez wow, is it really? Is the build on Metabattle accurate for rotation or is there any other stipulation on hitting that number? It just feels so much higher than I’m used to seeing even fully buffed in fractals.
Yep, that’s about the numbers I got as well.
If you get the chance to be fully buffed: Banners+EA+Spotter+GotL+25 might+fury+quickness+frost spirit+rev ferocity+seaweed salad (I think I got all now), you might even reach 25k.
And yeah, as “Amicable Pugs”(why does your nickname have to be kitten?!?) said, you basically cant really do something wrong. Just auto attack and you’ll reach that high numbers.
That’s great to hear Thor
![]()
Now I will be a little noobish and ask, if it is still viable to have guard with this build in squad even without this optimal composition you just listed. And actually, how exactly should look the composition of the squad (squad group in which the DH is) to achieve these numbers?
Yeah sure it is, but I have to say, you might run into some kind of issues.
VG for example, you need 4ppl for the green AoE circle, preferably ranged dps classes so you wont lose out dmg. You might be able to equip a LB if you have to do it, but you will notice the dps loss.
Gorseval should be kinda fine. The large symbols and his hitbox will keep your modifier. Together to this, you do have Aegis, so you dont need to dodge the knockback attack, you can just block it.
And last but not least, Sabetha, that fight is perfekt. You can just stand there and swing your hammer. :p The Aegis there helps to block the cannon, as well as timed bombs and in case you got a nec there as well, you are helping him with healing his minions.
But yeah, Im not saying, that guardian is the best way to go. But if you want to play it and you enjoy playing it, it is by far not the worst option you can take.
Hammer guard is 23k+ while losing nothing from using protection.

Yes, condi warrior is broken, op and should be nerfed, but it isn’t needed at all.
Check this or this!

Look on the bright side. We do have Lost Precipice but noone really likes it and everyone kinda wants Gilded Hollow. ;D
I am not talking about myself. We cleared the raid on monday in a bit more than one hour. But the point, that raids are pretty much the only instanced content now that at least gives you a little bit of rewards, still stands.
The problem is, that people who are not suited for raids still want to do them, because the other content was pretty much taken away. And now they want the raids to become easier. This could have easily avoided by just not nerfing dungeons/fracs.
Wasn’t talking about you as well.
Just wanted to say over all, that it doesn’t take that much time, cause you can split it over one week.
@Thorwyn when we did that event yesterday, we noticed that everyone got 1g50s expect the guys that went down during the event.
Not sure if that’s the triggering point there, needs some more confirmation.
Other people died, gliding too hard, but I didn’t.
So it has to be something else, or is it our best friend DR who is striking back again?
Dungeons and Fractals ARE your easier Raids.
The problem is that anet basically killed dungeons and fractals. And yet there are people out who want to do instanced group content but don’t have a high skill level, not much time, or just want to do some easy content. Of course those players also want to have some content that’s worth playing.
An easy solution would be to give dungeons back their rewards, but that probably will never happen.
Not like raids effort a lot of time.
I mean ok, the start, like the learning process will take some hours, depending how good you are in analyzing stuff. But after that <50min full clears are fairly easy. Not even talking about, that you have to do it in one go. You have a complete week for it.
For example:
1st day – 1st boss
2nd day – events til 2nd boss
3rd day – 2nd boss..
This is like 10min/day. So yeah, raids are totally time consuming.
And then again, raids aren’t made for everyone. People can still do dungeons as well as fractals. Maybe the changes in prolly 2 weeks will be good.
Not like you could look for people or join a guild who are willing to try out your stuff. Raids are made for organized groups, so get organized.
It seems kind of silly to let people speculate and get their hopes up about the fractal changes dropping today when you guys knew it was never part of the plan. A simple “It won’t be the coming with the December 1st patch” would have done.
To be clear, speculation isn’t something we can control, nor will we bounce into every thread that contains a speculative comment to try address it. We did not announce, and never planned for, a drop on December 1st. If you are disappointed, I really am sorry to hear that. I’m familiar with speculation — we had a lot of it as we prepared to release Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, Guil… well, you follow my drift.
It’s part of the nature of our sharing info about upcoming games, features, or improvements, that someone will speculate a date and that the date — even while never stated by us — may come to be seen as “obvious” or even “official.”
In this case, we wanted to share the news that good things are coming, but as in other cases, a date was not tied to that info.
I just checked with Production, and everything is on track to see the introduction of fractal changes later this month.
You’ve let us know something isn’t coming before. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Next-Game-Build-Update/first
Why willingly let people get excited about something when there are no plans for it? That only leads to frustration and disappointment. One short message in any thread (especially this very thread) and all the speculation would have gone away.
The fact that you think “speculation isn’t something we can control” is actually the most ridiculous thing I think you have ever said. It is absolutely controllable. Say something once in one place and the community will echo it. That goes for anything, ever!
You had 18 days to step into this thread and just say “this isn’t coming on December 1st” but you just didn’t. And instead of just admitting that you made a mistake you decide to come here and basically say ‘yeah we know you were expecting this but just didn’t say anything because you guys speculate about everything and we can’t be bothered.’
This isn’t new though, communication is getting worse by the day. Not sure why, when, or how this trend started but it is depressing. Look anywhere on the forums, something is wrong with communication.
It was pretty obvious in my opinion that the fractal changes will hit mid december together with wintersday patch. Would have been pretty surprising to see the changes on the 1st (FIRST) of december. It’s in two weeks, so everything is fine. You can be disappointed or upset if it doesn’t hit in two weeks.
Not judging your comment Miku, but you might not be best choice for that kind of statement. http://i.imgur.com/YHqSujC.png
@Torolan
Only because people are better at a game than others, doesn’t mean that they spend their whole life in it.
@icewyrm
That you get tokens even for failing is a really nice thing anet introduced to the game.
In my opinion, it is too nice. People who are able to clear the raid should get more out of it than people who keep failing on the first boss. Clearing the full raid should reward you with the weekly cap of tokens. Not getting past the first boss 25% of the cap, 50% for the second and 75% for the third boss.
As I stated somewhere earlier. We cleared the raid every week now and all I got are some exotics which weren’t worth anything. Together with the small amount of gold you get.
My tokens are capped at 315 which a person who haven’t cleared the raid yet could have reached as well. So in the end, we both are on the same level of rewards and this fair?
@Cheezy
I think something is bugged there. When we did the raid on monday, the event right before Gorseval where you get 1g 50s. Everyone of our team got this 1g 50s besides me, I only got 50s. And when we did it again, it was the same again. Everyone got 1g 50s and I got 50s. At least it was still enough to get the money for the food back while helping on clearing the raid a 2nd time.
what has your statement with mine even to do?
You were complaining, that raids aren’t supposed to be cleared that fast and I explained to you, that it is something you wont be able to avoid.
And then as well you are saying, that people are tryharding and whatever what is just not true. Some of your “arguments” are just hilarious.
You don’t have to try hard, to be fast at the raid, it’s just about skill and understanding/knowledge of the encounter.
And so you are blaming Elomite for not bringing arguments. From the stuff I was reading, his point is basically the same, I often tend to say. You can play stuff for fun and whatever, but in the end, you want to get rewarded for it. Rewards are kinda part of the fun so if there aren’t any rewards, then you miss out some fun.
Assuming your work is fun for you. Would you go there every day only because it is fun? Or do you go there, because you get money?
Same is it in this kind of games we have here. Yes you do stuff, cause it is fun, but if you don’t get “money”(rewards) you will reach a point were you will say, that it is a time waste.
Current state of raids, first clear is kinda okayish because of the buff. Second clear, lets say at least you get something so it isn’t a money loss (buff-food). I like doing raids, it is fun, but when I lose money, I wont do it. And then one week cooldown..
Even with the nerfed dungeons, you will make more money in this time. Sadly noone wants to do dungeons anymore, because I still like them.
I could now start as well again a discussion about something Perry mentioned already. DR and being punished for being too fast, but yeah, no need to go that endless loop.
@Elomite
If the raid is a joke, some good rewards won’t make you happy.
Raids are supposed to be challangeing and not to be farm content with good rewards.
You have no idea mate.
And you are just a troll or a bad player. We did two 40-50min runs today and there is still space to improve.
There will always be groups who are able to do stuff pretty fast and be able to farm it. If you want challanging content, ok then let those guys balance it. But do you want to deal with the result? Because then, a lot of people will not even have a chance to kill something in there. They have to balance for the majority skilllevel of the community which results in what I said before, good people will farm it.
Yeah, 3rd week of raids and not a single drop. Only crappy exotics..
And additional to this, I only got 50s from the event before Gorseval instead of 1,5g..
If anyone wants to know, yes Im salty as kitten and I hate everyone who got something. `;..;´
Before HoT it was guardian over mesmer for normal daily runs. The reason for this was mainly the ability to give aegis as well as facetanking bosses with blocks.
Now with HoT, bosses aint do damage anymore, so the main reason why you took a guard over a mesmer, is gone. This together with the strong chronomancer as well as the illusion changes (it’s been a while) makes mesmer prolly worth more than guard.
Especially for the boonstrip instability it might be better, but yeah, at the end the difference might not be that high and no one really cares about lineups at the moment anyway.
The way power scales compared to to the crit damage which is affected by the higher crit chance makes it worth more.
When talking about group stuff. It is always calculated, that you have fury, banners, food and maybe spotter. This means you only have to reach a specific amount of crit chance by yourself.
Even going full assassins for open world prolly ends up in a damage loss. I dont have numbers, but as I said before, power is really important.
He can’t be serious, prolly a sarcastic complain.
ok, so I guess I’ll give my feedback now as well.
1. Spear of Justice
Fast animation, fast projectile but then still 1/4s is not instant. At the current state of the guardian in hardcore PvE, you use ure F1 for blinds and the retal, while doing other skills of your rotation. This 1/4s just interrupts you and doesnt fit in on this.
2. Wings of Resolve
Cool animation, smooth movement ability and nice heal but, when you use it together with “Absolute Resolution” the condi cleanse will be at the end of the 1s animation and only around the landing area. No more instant 600 range condi cleanse. As much as I like the animation and everything on this skill, this way of condi cleanse is just bad compared to the normal one.
3. Shield of Courage
Amazing, just amazing. Cant say more about this, I just love it and it really brings me a tear in my eye, that I cant get it, because the disadvantage of the other two virtues is just too high.
4. Longbow
Dont want to go into every single skill, but over all the longbow looks pretty cool. The dmg is fine imo and it will get its spot, where you will use it.
5. Traps
I wont think they will make it in some way in PvE. Maybe the elite one. So I was running around with it in WvW and I can say, it was soooo much fun. They might look a OP, cause you can kinda oneshot people when they walk in all traps without knowing, but then yeah, you are kinda naked when you play like this. It is more like a fun build and for that completely fine. Using single traps over all got get a thing, especially the one with the revealed buff and again the elite one. So overall Im fine with the state of the traps.
6. Traits
As kinda mentioned before, Im a hardcore PvE player, so I like dmg modifier. The modifier on dragonhunter are kinda okayish. Cripple, you will need some help, but with an engi it will be fine for example. So then the other one with the Spear of Justice. For this one, what I said before applies plus, it only lasts for 6s with a 17 1/2s cd. This is fine for short fights, but for some longer fights you have less problems keeping up other modifiers which will result in not picking dragonhunter at all in PvE, what is pretty sad.
Ok, we still have to wait for the release, thing might change, but atm it might be not that easy for the dragonhunter to overtake the normal guardian. At least for the hardcore PvE section.
Ah yeah, one thing at the end, when you use Kudzu, the fancy animation of Deflecting Shot is just gone, what is really sad. Over all, the bow animations are kinda nice, but with Kudzu, all of them are gone. And when Im already talking about that, using Rodgort on guardian is kinda disappointing as well, cause the epic torch throw on #4 is just a small unnoticeable Rodgort. Maybe epic read instead of blue flames could be something.
High end food (100/80) is like a 5 dps increase. Up to 50% of dungeon time is spent fighting so using high end food means about 2.5% increased g/hr.
Using Truffle Steak requires 40 silvers per hour. 2.5% of 10g is 25 silvers. So using Truffle Steak means about 15 silver loss per hour.
Similarly 80/60 is a 4% dps increase and 2% of 10g is 20 silvers. So using Asparagus means about 5 silver increase per hour.
Griffon Egg Omelet (60/50) is like a 3% dps increase and 1.5% of 10g is 15 silvers. Using it means 13.5 silver increase per hour.
Why all guides suggest using high end or mid end food?
So Birthday Blaster it is!
Underwater safespotting and this are not mutually exclusive fixes. Both should be done.
Why? It juts makes you certain classes that have a lot of AoE potential to solo him now. That’s the only thing that changes with this change. Why is that good?
You shouldn’t be soloing group content to begin with. It’s a fun challenge and all, but it’s testament to how inferior the PvE in this game is when you don’t require a coordinated group doing multiple tasks to defeat “top end content”.
That’s pretty common in quite every mmo, that people start to solo “group content”. But yeah, just because something is stated to do with 5 ppl doesn’t mean that you cant or shouldnt do it with less ppl.
Just kill him before he can do anything.
But yeah, tbh, it can be really difficult to see what he is doing with all the effects being on him as well as the NPC’s. Use an aegis at the start before the deep freeze. For the fact, that you shouldnt get hit by anything before this, you can cover up this first flame burst. If he then is still alive, you probably should have a better view on him then cause people might spread out.
didnt see the stream yesterday, but did they mention this on the stream or is it just at the end of the trailer?
That’s from fractured release.
yeah, kinda came to this conclusion some min ago as well.
I was like, it looked like they old trailer, when did they release FotM again, so I checked the wiki and you are right.
didnt see the stream yesterday, but did they mention this on the stream or is it just at the end of the trailer?
Please keep in mind that (as before) these things won’t be in the next BWE, but in a future update. As always, thanks for your constructive feedback!
If you dont let us test it, how are we supposed to give you guys some feedback about it?!
They WILL allow us to test it. Just not at the upcoming BEW as implementing changes has to go through the proper channels and protocols. It’s not as simple as flipping a switch. It’s a big company that they has it’s own protocols and processing times.
Well, it is 1 1/2 weeks til the next BWE, if they did the changes already, it should be able to let us test them there.
Please keep in mind that (as before) these things won’t be in the next BWE, but in a future update. As always, thanks for your constructive feedback!
If you dont let us test it, how are we supposed to give you guys some feedback about it?!
And then the thing with Spear of Justice, 1/4s is at least something but still, it is a casttime. As a guardian in current PvE state. You cast Shield of Wrath, swap to torch, Symbol of Faith/Feel my Wrath (yes you cant cast both at the same time, cause Feel my Wrath got 1/4s casttime as well, so you have to cast it before or after the symbol) then torch #4 and swap to greatsword. In between you can just cast your F1 to get your retal.
But if you then really need 1/4s casttime as well, then seriously f… that sh…
Whooooooooaaaaa how do you have so many? Whats the trick lol? I run dungeons all the time and only can come up with 3. Does magic find help?
Well, I’d say I did some dungeons. http://i.imgur.com/cBPR0Le.png
And then, there are still ppl with more recipes than I have.Do you know if Magic Find helps with these drops?
Feel free to shoot me an invite to a dungeon run if you see me on. I always down unless I have to wvw with my guild or something.
It’s a normal boss drop, so magic find should affect it.

They still drop, but not all of them. I’m pretty sure some of them got removed like CM P3 Vallog’s Demise or SE P1, dont know the name of that.
But yeah, overall they are kinda rare.
That’s what I have and still should exist ingame. http://i.imgur.com/lxjKvAw.png
I almost run out of popcorn. :>
Something, the supporter of this topic, seem not to understand. Most of the “complaining” here isn’t really about the cleric thingy, this got most likely already discussed in the first topic.
The thing is, there was a thread here on the forums about this stuff, then there was a reddit thread and now, there is a forums thread again. Skady can say what she wants, but at some point it really looks like she is seeking for attention.
About playing with a “tanky” guardian in fractals. Why shouldn’t you? If you don’t care that your runs will be a bit slower, you can do so, because it will make it way easier. Mistakes are more forgiving than running with zerker.
Is clerics gear and camping mace the optimal thing to do? Not in my opinion, there are better options pulling this off.
Is a “tanky” clerics guardian even needed for Fractals? Not at all, for most of the stuff it doesn’t make a difference at all. A zerker guardian will be as tanky as a clerics guardian, but he will do way more damage.
One thing I had to laugh about, when I look back at the reddit thread. Skady saying, that they like the challenge of 3 maning fractals, but then running clerics guardian. It doesn’t make sense at all.
Better get a nomads guard then, being afk on hammer, that’s the real challenge tho. Kappa
But yeah, as I kinda mentioned above already, most people aren’t concerned about her playing clerics, more like that it is absolutely not needed and that this topic pops up all over again.
Just my two cents.
I’ve never seen such a stupid topic tbh.
When there are topics about other classes, calling for nerfs, it’s most likely people crying who are getting rekt by this in sPvP.
If there isn’t such a thread, the class is either balanced/in a good state or weak in sPvP.
So why the hell would you just randomly ask for a nerf?!
But yeah, just to convince you, when talking about PvE, “Feel My Wrath!” could get a higher CD, at it’s current state, it is ready at every boss fight. But then, you should always get in your mind, you are playing games for fun, if the stuff you like playing is getting nerfed all the time, there is no fun anymore.
I don’t know if i should laugh or cry.
You obviously did not read any of the feedback given over the beta weekend!
These changes are pointless and do not address any of the core issues raised numerous times!
Traps are still garbage.
Traits are still garbage.
Virtues still have a cast time.
Deflecting Shot and Auto Attack are still garbage.
Virtue trait line is useless with Dragon Hunter.Honestly what is happening at ArenaNet? Do they hate Guardians that much that they would deliberately insult us with these “changes”?
^
Casttime on virtues is a no go.
Traits not worth dropping another of the current traitlines for it.
Just keep on going with this, Anet, and noone will ever play Dragonhunter.
Nice to see you hating again, Thorwyn
I don’t get your problem? There is no valid record atm and they had fun doing it, so why shouldnt they? They never said it would be extremly good and if some1 has a better time to show thats even better. Records live from competition I guess?
hating? lol
but nice to see you being offended, gave me a good laugh.
I’d say ppl got different opinions on the record stuff. Some just post something to get attention, others take it serious and only post if they got a good time. As well as they dont want to waste the time of the guys who have to approve this.
So you posting a “record” of CM story with 3ppl, after the specialization patch when there was this before this patch?
good job I guess?
First for the stuff on metabattle, I just didnt see the 30s thing on top, fixed that.
For the two different builds. Basically the difference isn’t really huge, so for normal dungeontours, you can play what you prefer most.
Why I chose the Bane Signet variant as a main build. Most fights in low dungeons are that fast, that you profit more from the direct damage you get with the extra power than burning can tick and do damage. You most likely use your F1 active and together with Torch #4, you end up with 4 stacks of burning for like 2-3s. That’s like nothing tbh.
Now Radiant Fire, Torch #4 does nice dmg and the trait looks nice, yes, but it’s not handy. Sometimes the 2nd Zealot’s fire doesn’t proc right away, your normal rotation gets delayed, you end up not hitting your whole Whirling Wrath into a symbol and so on. It’s nice on the papers but not in organized and good dungeon runs.
Another thing is the Icebow, tbh, I’m not sure yet if it isn’t even better to run your normal rotation instead of picking up the Icebow, but counting you pick it up, the extra 10% dmg with Retribution make a difference. There are situations, where you just pick up an Icebow before the boss spawns and use it. Enjoy your Radiant Fire then.
But yeah, as I said before, at the end, play what you want. If your group lacks on damage, I’d go for Radiant Fire otherwise take the base variant.
And there is one thing, I’d like to note at the end. Never swap out Bane Signet!
(edited by Thorwyn.8469)
Anet loves their casuals who pay for gems and so that they wont get upset, cause they cant do Lupi anymore, there wont be a “fix”. As well as Anet doesnt give a f*** about dungeons.
Birdy Birdy,
In the sky,
What you doing in my eye,
It tastes like sugar,
It feels Like soup,
Oh My God,
Its birdy poop.
I just want to say Hi, but I need 15 chars, that makes me sad.
If they are going to make a gearcheck, just linke your zerker stuff and you should be fine.
I’m pretty sure noone will really notice it, cause the dmg difference isnt that high.
I tested around for myself with burning guard, for trash or let’s just say more targets, it is really strong and you can get quite an amount of burning stacks. In longer fights with single target, you might run short on burning stacks for some time, but over all you can play it.
Just one thing, the playstyle isnt really much of a difference, so you might just stick on zerker.
savespotting in the electricity room, I call out a rule discussion!
No European team ever won a GvG tournament that mattered in GW1.
Europe kinda started late with the PvP in GW1. Dont really remember any active team, when the big tournaments were a thing.
But then when they started, Favor of the Gods or how it was called, mainly EU and most of the top GvG guilds were EU as well afair. But then, there was one NA guild dominating, Rebel Rising [rawr].
To me it looks like, that all symbols are counting – not only those from the guardians in the group.
You dont say.
That’s why it is that broken and everyone wants the fix.1) Opening Post – Group of five Guardians …
2) Something constructive? Would it be enough for you to limit the stacking to only the symbols from a group? I don’t think so. In my opinion only the symbols put down by that guardian should be counting – if that would make the skill to weak for Arenanet, well there is always the possibility to change the factors…There already enough threads about this as well as reddit topics, kinda surprised that you could miss them.
Yes it counts for every symbol on the ground and yes it shouldnt. According to the trait description it should give you only 10% more dmg, no matter how many symbols there are.
Was there any official Anet answear/statement about the matter? Couldn’t find any.
Not yet, but it is pretty obvious, that this is not working as intended. Symbols of other guardians should not count.
And as I said, according to the description, the amount of symbols shouldnt count at all but it would be fine, as long as only your own count, cause you cant really maintain more than one symbol for a longer time.
