Yes, I saw the Return To Sender option.
But I haven’t used it yet.
I’m concerned that sending the mail back will “authenticate” the mail to the spammer.
I.E: someone recieved with the name Tilarta recieved the mail, read it and sent it back, therefore they exist, so let’s step up the spam mails!
I’m still confused that we can’t delete mails with items in them.
In my other mmos, regardless of whether or not the mails have stuff in them, you can delete them anyway.
I’ve no idea how they latched onto my name, but I logged in to GW2 today to discover 10 mails from the idiot gold spammers.
9 of them I could delete (and report!), the 10th one proved to be problematic.
Just before I read it, I was wondering when the Gold Spammers would discover the item link deletion block.
And apparently, they did!
Because the mail has 1 bronze as an attachment, I cannot delete the mail unless I take the bronze.
This I do not wish to do, because I’m thinking it’s a high security risk.
If I take the bronze, it may be a way for them to trace my account in more detail.
At the very least, it confirms to them that Tilarta took the bronze, so spam Til more.
Is there any way I can get the mail deleted without taking the bronze?
It’s just my two cents and please try to understand where I’m coming from, by responding civilly.
“You don’t want account bound dyes because it will cut down your ingame income”.
That just comes across as pure greed to me.
You want us to buy the same dye from you 5 times just for your own benefit.
And you’re missing the point, you’re not going to make the sale anyway.
Like I said earlier, you can sell one account bound dye and get something or try to sell 5 character dyes and get nothing.
Also, just skimming the thread, it appears the character bound dye proponents are in the minority here, so I’d say the people have spoken.
I’m currently having to deal with another mmo being greedy with their ingame store and it looks like the trend is continuing here!
And for the record, that ingame store is a joke to the players!
If GW2 isn’t careful, their ingame store will end up the same way.
I’ve been dabbling with testing Elite Transforms on the characters who can do it.
Currently, this is only Norn and Asura.
This is the rather disappointing result of my test involving the Summon Power Suit skill:
I chose to test it against the Skritt Pilotless Suit Thingy (it’s a Golem the Skritt have made or repaired).
I could barely scratch it.
Then I found a mission which is a “Golem Smackdown”.
The Golem you get into is the same as the one you Summon, even down to the powers.
The significant difference is no timer.
Also, the thing wreaked carnage on a large scale.
I didn’t die once inside it, even when it came to the final tough fight.
So, this mission Suit inflicts more damage then the one you can use personally, even though they are the exact same thing?
Something is horribly wrong there!
Like the Norn transforms, I think the problem here is the lack of damage and the timer.
For both, Damage needs to be increased and the timer removed.
These are Elite Skills, they should live up to their name and allow you to do significant damage!
Can we get rid of the medal sheet in the Character Select Screen?
in Suggestions
Posted by: Tilarta.9812
I’m finding this quite annoying.
It takes up half the screen and says nothing particularly interesting.
I want to look at my characters in the screen, not half a blank white space.
Can we remove it or add a toggle to get it “offscreen”?
I’m pretty much a one pet person myself.
I picked out the one I wanted and stuck with my black cat.
I charm others for fun or to see what they look like, but don’t use them.
I find it frustrating that I can’t revive my pet like it did in GW1.
Just hit Comfort Animal, up they pop again!
It’s hard enough rezzing players, doing so for my pet too adds extra complications in battle.
We need a way to rez the pet in battle, perhaps a power switch thing in healing skill.
Something like, okay, your pet is dead, hitting heal will get it up again.
A question about pet rezzing, did they change it?
I haven’t seen the rezz marker appear recently, my kitty will revive somehow on his own, but I can’t figure out if I can rez him myself.
Let’s be honest, if he’s just standing there being “dead”, he’s not much good to me!
Here is my Sylvari Ranger and her faithful companion.
I thought it would fun to make a Ranger who was a plant person.
It seemed appropriate since Rangers are all about nature and well, a Sylvari is the living embodiment of nature.
Also, growing plants is fun!
Rabbit.
I tried it in GW1 once, just to see if I could.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t!
Tried again in GW2, no luck.
And that Norn Heart with keeping the food away from hungry bunnies proves how dangerous a Bunny Pet would be.
But basically, I’d like to the ability to charm any animal I come across.
Let’s say I see said animal, I think, that might be a fun pet, so do a search on where to find the Juveniles to go and charm.
Yes, I support this suggestion.
I have several unused Random Dye things I got as drops, but have never bothered to use them, because the tooltip said the dye was “per character”.
I stuck to the default palette, since I know those colors are “universal” across all the characters.
Scenario:
One Character needs an really dark black for their armor, another needs a bright yellow.
The one who needs the black gets the yellow, the one who wants the yellow gets black instead.
Cue Scream of Epic Rage.
And it could go on like that for ages, Character X needs color Y, but doesn’t get it because Character Z unlocked it by accident.
I prefer the Champions Online system, where you only have to unlock one “special costume item” once and all your characters get it.
Final judgement, per character dyes aren’t worth my time, but account wide dyes, that would get me interested.
It’s your choice, sell me something ALL my characters can use and get my money.
Try to sell me something per character and you get nothing.
It’s up to you.
Like the Grenth and Dwayna outfits in GW1.
I paid for them because it was an account wide unlock.
I’m hesitant to investigate buying things like pirate outfits or aviator glasses because I suspect I’ll have to buy one per character!
Personally, I’m disappointed with the selection available.
I have female characters, but prefer a “simple” outfit look for them.
I’d prefer sleeveless tunics, long pants and boots or shoes.
Dresses, skirts, etc, don’t really appeal to me.
I’d also like to see jackets, long and short sleeved shirts.
Wearing the same town outfit as everyone else just doesn’t appeal to me, I’d like to customize their look to reflect their ingame personalities.
Just changing the color isn’t much of a customization.
I’ve been seeing Golems a lot and they seem to be very strange to me.
It’s like they are a loose collection of seperate parts held together by a magnetic field.
Which isn’t much like the Golems in GW1.
M.O.X’s fist would ratchet outwards in a power punch move, but it would remain attached, his wrist just extended out from the casing of his forearm.
To me, it just seems like the Golems aren’t very durable.
I have a couple of mental images in my head:
A Golem attempts to power punch a Norn.
The Norn pulls their arm off and throws it into the distance.
One Golem disarmed, literally.
Or you could pull off the eye crystal and effectively blind them.
Really?
That’s disappointing.
I chose Norn because I liked their Lore, not because I wanted to be an Uber stomping werebeast.
That’s just a bonus!
But let’s be clear, these forms are powerful indeed and the game should reflect that.
I don’t want to turn into a Bear or whatever just for novelty value.
It should be practical to use, like the Norn equivalent of “emergency save move”.
I.E: You’re in a tough fight, invoke the Bear and finish your enemy fast.
I’m pretty sure my Bear form can take on hard enemies, but the DPS isn’t enough to do it quickly.
So the timer expires before I get a decent usage of it.
In contrast, the Asura Hazmat Golem suit, which is a similar transform doesn’t have a timer. At least, I didn’t see one.
Yes, I agree.
Each race should have their own version of the technology involved.
Asurans should use Asura tech.
Sylvari should use organic turrets.
Their rifle would shoot spiky seed pods.
Their rocket launcher would shoot a spiked torpedo like projectile.
I’m not sure how you would make a fire breathing plant though, but let the Devs rise to that challenge!
As regards Norn and Charr variants, they should also be different.
In my opinion, Norn and Charr have their own aestethic ideal.
Norn seem to favor metal scrollwork, flowing, rounded shapes.
They do include spikes sometimes, but don’t overstate it.
It looks like they’re trying to balance form and visual appeal.
The Charr however, design their technology specifically to give the “if I show you this, you know it’s going to hurt you painfully” image.
Sharp metal blades, straight, rigid lines.
In my opinion, the default model is what a human would use if they knew what had to be created, but had to improvise with limited materials.
Sortof like making Cannons with mediavel armor making techniques.
I have 2 Norns.
A Warrior and an Elementalist.
The Warrior is full size.
I thought it would be interesting to give her a dark complexion, black hair and a suntan, as most Norn tend to be pale.
But for contrast, I decided to make the Elementalist as short as possible!
She can almost pass for human.
I was an avid Ursan Blessing user in GW1, so I thought Bear Form would be equally as formible.
Let’s just say there is many a GW1 boss who went home with Bear Scratches and headaches.
Pretty much, for 60 seconds, I was unstoppable with Ursan Blessing.
Between the Clawing, the Knockdown and the High Health, they couldn’t do very much to me.
And that’s what I expected, only more so with Bear Form, since we’re not “borrowing” the blessing, we’re doing the actual transformation, which should be more powerful then simply “echoing” the power.
And also, 30 seconds is too short.
I fought the Veteran Shiny King, transformed right at the start of the fight and had to end the fight in my normal form.
In Guild Wars 1, I’ve seen Norn mantain the transform for much longer, maybe a minute, could even be 2 or 3.
In some circumstances, the transformation was permanent until they chose to transform back!
Periodically, there are Hearts which require you to don a disguise and infiltrate an enemy base to sabotage it.
And pretty much all the time, you take on the appearance of a “human”.
Now, for Syvlari, this wouldn’t be very complicated, as they’re generally the same height and shape.
But how does a 9 foot Norn or a 3 foot Asura disguise themselves as humans?
I would also imagine a Charr would also find it problematic donning this disguise.
The one I just did involved Bandits.
Although they’re rare, I have seen Asura and Norn bandits, so it wouldn’t be improbable that you could pass yourself off as one of those!
I did try to play GW2 as it was intended, but so far, I’m not seeing any improvement!
5 Characters, all level 30 (minimum) and it’s, well, boring.
Not once did they do story missions to achieve that!
What it basically consisted of was:
Waypoint Finding.
Hearts.
Whatever Random Event was nearby when I happened to be running around the map.
To me, it looks like this whole game is just an eternal Bloodmoon event.
To explain, Champions Online occassionally has this event where the goal is to defend certain portals and spawn a boss to fight (in the hopes of getting a unique boss drop item).
In practice however, it’s just a grind.
Players either wait for you to spawn the boss and leech the kill or kill everything, lowering your participation score.
And every time I do a Heart or Event, I see Bloodmoon leech style behavior!
Well, Hearts not so much, but when I do some Events, I wonder, why did I bother showing up at all?
There’s 20 people killing everything before it moves, my participation is limited to standing “in the circle” and watching.
Seriously, who designs an mmo where “story is optional” and not necessary to the levelling process?
Shouldn’t it be the other way around?
Where the bulk of the XP comes from story and exploration is the kicker to the level up?
The idea of continuing this pattern to level 80 across 5 seperate characters (maybe 7 if they add Tengu and Kodan as playable races) just doesn’t appeal to me.
Now that I really think about it, it’s not Charr technology either.
Charr have a specific design ornamentation, they go for metal decoratings, usually involving scrollwork and sharp point edges.
To me, it looks like some enterprising Human Blacksmith got their hands on Charr designs and replicated them with whatever materials he had on hand.
It’s set to none currently.
I assume that means I’m stuck with the water bubbles.
Is it me or was Guild Wars 2 designed to “screen spam”?
Damage scrollers, Purge Conditions, etc.
They all pop up on screen and I haven’t found a way to disable any of it!
I’m pretty sure Quaggans are based on the Sirenian order of marine mammals, most likely manatees.
I just came across a mission where I have to collect “tasty crab meat for Quaggan”.
Manatees and Sirenians happen to be herbivores, it’s not natural for them to eat meat!
I like Quaggans!
Why do they talk like Hanar though?
Hanar never refer to themselves in the first person.
They often refer to themselves as “this one”, similar to named Quaggan saying that instead of their actual name.
And they’re not belugas, they’re sirenians, most likely manatees.
This is something I’m finding quite annoying of late.
Everytime my character surfaces, there’s water splatted all over the screen?
In my opinion, this is an unnecessary function, I can tell the difference between underwater and above water without this particle effect!
Is there a way to disable the water splash particles so I stop seeing them?
Okay, that’s just silly.
Asura technology is superior to Charr technology, so why would they use “inferior” devices when any reasonably intelligent Asura could and would make something better?
Yes, I’m a warrior.
Now I’m very confused.
Burning and fire are not the same?
Yes, in theory, I could carry a Flame Sword and an Icy Sword (if the latter exists, I haven’t seen one yet).
But unfortunately, this won’t work with longbows!
My skills determine the damage being inflicted, not the weapon itself.
So even if I had an Icy Longbow, it’d still inflict Fire Damage.
If I’d been designing this, I’d design the weapon skills to take their damage from the weapon being used.
For example, if you had an Icy Longbow, your Fire Attacks switch to Ice Attacks.
I play a Asura engineer and have been wondering about something.
The major skills I use are Rifle Turret, Rocket Turret, Thumper and (if underwater) Net Turret.
But these devices look very odd to me.
Asura technology has a very specific look and these deployables don’t have it!
If I had to guess, it’s because engineer skills use a “standard model” that doesn’t account for racial differences in technology.
For example, a Sylvari engineer would probably “grow” their turrets out of plant materials, which would give them a distinctive plantlike look, much like their seed throwing turrets and so on.
I’ve never made a Sylari engineer, so I’m uncertain if that is the case.
Is it a Conflict of Interest for the other races to do Charr missions?
in Lore
Posted by: Tilarta.9812
I’ve been wondering about this lately, most Charr missions seem to involve the theme of “let’s beat down the beaten more”.
Several of them involve killing (or should that be rekilling?) Ascalonian Ghosts.
Wouldn’t the other races have issues doing that?
Human: The Ghosts are their ancestors.
Norn: Respect spirits and would deem killing those who fell in battle unworthy.
Syvlari: would feel sympathy for the dead.
Asura: Might fight them out of intellectual curiosity (I wonder, what would it be like to fight to a ghost? Can I study it and make new discoveries?), but would ultimately feel pity for the slain.
I’ve used this once or twice, then stopped doing so.
The way I see it, all it does it get you up, allow you to kill an enemy, then you fall down dead again when the timer expires.
I may as well just stay down if that’s all that happens!
Because then I still have to go back to where I was before by running there.
Recently I was wandering through Skrittsburgh (Stuff Stuff Stuff!) and the Champion Destroyer Crab popped up nearby.
I immediately ran over to fight it and switched to my longbow, because I wasn’t going to fight it up close.
Then I saw the text “Immune to Burning”.
If my character had a sadface emote, she would have used it!
My sword inflicts Fire damage and 3 out of my 5 longbow skills also set the enemies on fire!
I basically spent the entire battle using the 2 longbow skills that didn’t involve fire.
In Guild Wars 1, I had a solution for this problem.
I carried 4 weapons:
Fire Sword
Ice Sword
Fiery Longbow
Icy Longbow
So, if I ran across a Fire Resistant enemy, I just switched to the appropriate weapon and continued on fighting as normal.
But I don’t know if that works in GW2.
Heck, I don’t even know if they have Icy Weapons!
Or Fiery ones for that matter, the only reason my sword burns things is a HoM unlock.
Yes, I would imagine, in order to function independently (not rooted in the ground), a Sylvari had to develop certain internal analogues to mammalian physiology.
So yes, they would have organs like lungs and digestive tracts.
But even so, this does not mean the plant based aspects of their origins would be completely abandoned, it would function in unison with their internal organs.
So whatever oxygen the Sylvari absorb through their skin supplements the air they breathe in through their nose and mouth.
The “all plant” theory could also explain why they survive in salt water, they’re part seaweed!
Which, if it was true, would mean that a Sylvari is in fact amphibous, able to breathe underwater, since seaplants need to extract their oxygen from the water.
Well, the analogy isn’t perfect.
Yes, it’s not a good idea to put a plant completely underwater, it’ll drown, for lack of a better term.
But a plant’s roots, while immersed in water, can extract what they need to live somehow, provided the water has no salt.
I’m assuming Syvlari are “all plants” really, merging underwater and above water properties.
I was panning around the map when I saw this:
http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/125420113-4.jpg
It’s an empty space, yet it seems significant.
While exploring Lion’s Arch, I found a doorway that some Tengu would not let you enter.
Later on, I met a Tengu who talked about their “sealed city that only Tengu are allowed to enter”.
He’s talking about the area indicated on the map.
It seems that location is just the right size for a city hub, like The Grove, Hoelbrak etc.
I wonder if there will be a Tengu race one day?
That would be really great!
Star Trek Online.
Champions Online.
Look them up.
You can level solely via story.
And this I know, because I did it!
GW1 was similar to, though not quite (thanks to Eye of the North!).
If I had XP problems, I just ran off to another expansion and got more XP.
And honestly, I’m getting bored with the hearts now.
I’m getting the “done one, done them all” feeling.
It’s all about repetive tasks to rank up completion of the heart.
The task itself is irrevalent, they’re all the same to me.
And I’ve always laughed at the idea of GW being an mmo!
Very rarely in GW1 did I get asked for a team to follow the story.
4 Campaigns, all done with maybe 10 teams along the way.
To me, it’s a soloplayer game with online social areas.
Also, I don’t know if you can team for personal story missions.
And also, I’m wary about teaming out in the “public world” as it were.
Let’s just say I’ve had bad experiences with loot/xp leeching and unless I really trust someone, I’m not going to team with them.
I started to wonder about this lately.
As a plant based organism, Sylvari breathe differently then normal species.
I assume they have lungs, but pretty much every plant takes in oxygen via their leaves.
And since the Sylvari’s skin is essentially composed of the same substance as leaves, it means they can also absorb oxygen through the skin.
And also, plants can absorb what they need from the environment more readily then mammals, especially water.
So, a Sylvari immersed in water could in theory, absorb oxygen from it in a way a mammal can not.
They would have a problem with salty water though, there are very few plants that can tolerate high salinity environments, so they’d get very sick if they went swimming in the ocean, for example!
So, really, it should be unnecessary for a Sylvari to use a breathing mask, because they don’t need it!
I’m running a Sylvari Ranger and have an interest in using a specific weapon type, in order to keep with the “organic plant theme”.
But I can’t actually locate the weapons I’m seeking, at least for under level 60.
This is the only low level one I’ve come across so far:
http://www.gw2db.com/items/59870-wyld-greatsword
This is what I’m seeking:
Carrion Verdant on this page:
http://dulfy.net/2012/08/29/gw2-cultural-armor-and-weapons-guide/
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Carrion_Verdant_weapons
Are these weapons available anywhere for less then level 60?
1. Norn
2. Sylvari
3. Human
4. Asura
Charr, not even worth mentioning!
1. Warrior.
2. Ranger.
3. Engineer
4. Thief
5. Elementalist.
I have no interest in the other classes, so can’t rate them.
Still disappointed by the bell curve. rings Dredge gong
Knowing that story XP isn’t enough on it’s own, I accelerated two characters to 10 levels above the requirement in the hopes the boost would prevent the need to grind.
Then I took one of them through their story chain.
1 hour of gameplay later and +1 level, they’re right back where they started!
Mission Level: 14
Character Level: 24
Character Level after 1 hour: 25.
Current Story Mission Level: 24
That is just terrible!
In pretty much any other mmo, a +10 boost would mean you’d never have to stop the story for anything!
Is the Story XP that minimal that it barely counts for anything?
(edited by Tilarta.9812)
I was standing around in Rata Sum and suddenly had to step away from the keyboard.
I wasn’t gone long, but when I got back, someone had invited me to their Guild.
I pressed Decline and then checked the Guild menu to make sure.
The invite was still there!
Declined it for the second time.
I searched for a function to Block Guild Invites, but could not find one.
Also, I make it a policy NEVER to accept blind Guild invites!
We have to talk for a bit first before I agree and they have to meet specific criteria before I accept.
A couple of examples:
Active members who won’t quit the game/Guild.
Australian dominant Guild (because I’m Australian!).
I’ve had a bad run of Guild/Clans/Fleets in the past, so I made the decision that I wasn’t going to do it in GW2.
Hence, this is why I want a function to block random invites to Guilds, so I’m not bothered by people wasting my time or harassing me with random unwanted invites!
Yes, just confirmed this.
1 Captain Matrox, 3 Ethereal Vanguard.
Looks like I can go back to map exploring now.
And hope I don’t find another one like this!
Thanks for the advice guys.
It really helped me clear out some much needed storage space.
http://i637.photobucket.com/albums/uu100/zrowngctr/Games/GW2/GoldCMat01.jpg
I’m still confused by those items above though.
It says they’re crafting materials, but I can’t do with them what I did with all the others, for some reason.
The option to “store collectible” doesn’t appear when i right click.
They’re sitting in my main bank at the moment.
This is something I’m finding quite frustrating.
In Guild Wars 1, we had a bank tab specifically for storing crafting materials.
It was basically a list of all crafting materials and when you dragged something to that tab, it said you now have 1 Diamond instead of 0 Diamonds, to choose an example.
But as far as I can tell, we don’t have a tab like this in GW2.
And my crafting materials are taking up so much space, one of my characters is having to hold half of what I found just to free up bank space.
And this means they’re not capable of going out and playing the game, since their loot bag is 90% full!
And then there’s the food items, for cooking.
Like Crafting, these should also get a seperate tab, to ease the pressure on the general items tab.
I’m not the kind of person who enjoys repetition.
I’m exploring the areas on one character only, for the novelty of doing 100% map completion once.
But does anyone seriously think I’m going to find hunting down every vista, point of interest and heart so fascinating the 2nd, 3rd and 4th times?
Which is why story should be key to the levelling process, it’s unique to each character, seeing as they are following a different story, so it will remain interesting and new.
Level 80 in a day?
If you can do all the GW2 stories in one day, you need to logoff and download the game “Real Life”.
Well, I’m assuming I need a 3rd pet.
One to temporarily slot while I move the other 2 around in order.
GW2 is probably saying, you’ve got Pet 1 and Pet 2 slotted, so you can’t reslot them unless one is not active.
I did try to find a Rabbit to charm, but no such luck!
And yes, I tried that in GW1 as well.
I was just something crazy I wanted, an attack rabbit.
Unfortunately, Rabbits are not charmable! :-(
Edit: Got it working, had to charm an owl and a shark to move them around.
Thanks for the advice.
(edited by Tilarta.9812)
Nothing happens.
It is because I only have 2?
It always puts the one I want at the bottom and refuses to change it.
So, in other words, aside from spending them to get to the next tier, they do nothing for me, since I won’t ever be slotting them?
I currently have 2 ranger pets, the default one I was given upon character creation and one I charmed later.
The second one is the one I wish to use.
But periodically, usually when defeated, the game will select the default one and replace the active one?
Is there any way to lock or override this so it’s not giving me the wrong one?
I’m afraid to Charm more pets in case it starts randomly cycling through my entire collection!

Grr, couldn’t get the image to display properly, just click on the link.
These skills refer to a Passive Bonus.
There are similar skills in the Warrior framework.
My question is, to gain the bonus, do you need to have the skill slotted in the power bar?
Or is simply unlocking the skill enough?
I don’t like the idea of giving up my Seed Turret, Grasping Vines or Muddy Earth just for passive bonuses (see the image).
Yes, pretty much.
That’s how my other mmos worked.
You did the mission, you were 100% or 90% of the way to the next one.
Any extra XP you gained was just that, extra.
Gave you a boost if you wanted it, but wasn’t critical to the levelling process.
Yes, this is happening to me too.
And according to Buck’s screenshot, it’s a different person to who mailed them.
I have a lot of experience with these spammers, you Report Spam/Block one mail, they have another 100 lined up to mail you with.
In the end, you just have a Block List full of gold spammers.
I don’t know how GW2 works, but I know the GW1 block list had a finite limit, because I reached it!
They should just enable a function that ONLY Friends or NPCs can mail you.
Problem solved!
