…we have finally settled on a name. C Trahearn Gabriel.

Although we picked it for the sound and meaning and its not spelt the same, it’s another nice connection to the game.

Once again, congratulations.

I hope the grind (e.g. watch how the number of diapers changed quickly adds up faster than your Aurillium used to) leads to good loot (e.g. first solid food (omnomberry?), first word (“meta” probably?), first steps, and, of course, first jumping puzzle).

Ha ha. Thanks, again. Yea, I’m well looking forward to his first jumping puzzle, his sisters were naturals!

We were just looking through the baby name books with the midwife and she pointed out Trahern (as in Trahearne) and said “oww, I really like this one! It’s a nice strong Irish name.”
It means Strength of Iron" but it’s actually more Gaelic than Irish. I tell you, we’d be half tempted if we hadn’t used a very GW name for one of the girls already.

I wonder if that’s how the devs name some of the NPCs when making the game, just randomly picking names from baby naming books. lol

6 sons plus parents….. how u guys will make a party for the game??

party limit is 5

5 daughters and one son.

If we play GW, we’ll be fine, party size there is 8. When we play GW2, we’ll just have to play in a squad. Good thing I have a commander tag.

Hey ArenaNet.
Every couple of years I come on here and make a post for the same reason and saying the same thing so I’ll keep it short. : )

When I was living in England about 11 years ago, I came across GW. About 10 years ago, I met a female player in Kamadan. About 6 months after that I met her in person and shortly after that, I met her daughter and shortly after again, we became a couple. From then until now GW and GW2 have been a massive part of our lives.
About 8 years ago we had our second daughter (technically, my first daughter but their both mine/ours, if you know what I mean). Then about 6 years ago, our third daughter. 4 years ago, our forth daughter. 2 years ago, our fifth daughter. Then about 5 hours ago, we had our sixth child. Our first boy.

None of this would have been possible were it not for ArenaNet. I’m filled with overwhelming gratitude to you guys. I cannot express how thankful we are, these few words fail hopelessly to convey our appreciation but we’ll say them anyway… Thank you.

No Skill Choice, not even Racial skills!

in Revenant

Titan Cronus.9216

Does it make sense lore-wise? Yep
Do you get six utilities, two heals, and two elites? Yep

Perhaps what you mean to complain about are:

Do major traits have decent cooldowns? Nope
Are Jalis and Ventari allergic to water? Yup
How are you all enjoying that sweet ranged condition weapon? …

No it doesn’t make sense lore-wise.

Before Rytlock disappeared into the Mists, he was a Charr of the Warrior Combat Profession and used Charr and Warrior skills as well as the common Combat Profession skill, Mistfire Wolf.
When he was in the mists he discovered a new Combat Profession, the Revenant.
Now, after returning from the mists, he is STILL a Charr but now a Revenant Combat Professional and SHOULD be using Charr and Revenant skills as well as the common Combat Profession skill, Mistfire Wolf.

During his time in the mists, he did not cease to be a Charr nor did he lose skills common to all Combat Professionals, he just changed his Combat Profession from Warrior to Revenant. Also, from a lore point of view, from all the professions, Revenants (who channel the power of the Mists) would be most likely to have access to a skill that summons a Mistfire Wolf from within the Mists.

Finally, both you and other people keep comparing how many skills the Revenant has access to during combat (Do you get six utilities, two heals, and two elites? Yep) in relation to other professions but that has nothing to do with the points I was making: lack of skill CHOICE. That is, the amount of choice a Revenant has when choosing it’s build. The range or variety of skills they have access to when creating a build that will allow them to fulfil their desired role during combat.

Just because nearly no-one uses them doesn’t change the fact that Racial Skills are a game mechanic.

You may not like them, I sure don’t particularly like them but EVERY character belongs to a specific RACE. A profession or character without access to Racial Skills is incomplete.

If the Revenant can’t use Racial skills, THEN IT’S BROKEN. It’s just that simple.

If Racial skills won’t work with the Revenant then that’s something they should have thought about before they began creating it. Like, If they had an idea for a profession that couldn’t go under water, it should never be created until they had a way for it to go under water. It’s the exact same here, If an idea for a profession IS MISSING A CORE GAME AND PROFESSION MECHANIC, then they shouldn’t create it. When that have it sorted, create away.

ADDED: As a point, I did actually play the Revenant in the betas but just assumed that the racial skills would be added for release. Like obviously, its racial skills, the profession wouldn’t be complete without them.

Quite a lot of people seem to have mistaken my OP, I didn’t say I had a problem with Profession Mechanic. It was only about the lack of skills and skill choice.

Its like this, there are things that EVERY profession has. These are core Mechanics and here are a few:

  • ALL professions have RACIAL skills because ALL professions belong to a specific RACE!
    • Revenants don’t and in that regard, they are broken/unfinished.
  • ALL professions have 4 types of utility skills and 4 skills of each type (5 with Elite Specializations)
    • Revenants only have 3 skills of each type of utility skill and in that regard, they are broken/unfinished.
  • ALL Professions have some degree of choice with their utility skills beyond their Profession Mechanic.
    • Revenants don’t have ANY and again, in that regard they are broken/unfinished.

We know that because of their Profession Mechanic, their choice of utility skill is limited because its tied to their current legend but limited does not mean NONE. There is absolutely no reason why they shouldn’t have these issues mentioned above sorted and I would even argue that until they are sorted, the Revenant is Broken.

Put simply, they are missing some Core Game Mechanics.

What the hell is up with the total lack of skill choice!

Each weapon the Revenant uses has its own skills, same with every profession so no problem there but there is no choice of healing, utility or elite skills, like not even Racial Skills. I fully understand the “Unique Profession Mechanic”, your healing, utility and elite skills are tied to your Legend but why ALL and why no Racial Skills?

Basically, as a Revenant, the only choice you have relating to your skills beyond choosing your weapon and legend is which order you put your three utility skills in. Come on, like that’s totally ludicrous right???

(Other than the issue mentioned above, I quite like the profession)

I’m all for mounts. Absolutely would love a horse, maybe a Human mount. The Charr have some amazing vehicles, just need a little scaling down. The Norn could have Dolyaks or other hulking beasts. Some awesome mounts could be made from Asura tech and plant creatures for Sylvari themed mounts. Also, maybe things like jetpacks, hoverboards and steambeasts.

I wouldn’t like to see them exclusively race specific, rather just a few race themed and some general. I wouldn’t even be bothered if they had no speed benefits or only worked out of combat. Maybe keep them out of capital cities though.

I’d love to see spears. I have posted about it before. Some mobs already use them as terrestrial weapons (centaurs for example). Some people said that the weapon would be to similar to the current spear but most rifles/harpoons and staffs/tridents already share skins so why not spears and their terrestrial counterpart (short spear, throwing spear or whatever).

I think they did it right with the Zenith skins. You can open up your achievements tab and withdraw them at will. For the cost of these skins, they too should work in a similar fashion. Once purchased, a player should be able to withdraw any piece at will.

Totally agree with this thread.

Spears... If only Anet... if only

Titan Cronus.9216

I absolutely love this idea and have been banging on about it for ages in the game. Several creatures already use spears (as terrestrail weapons) ingame, like the Modniir for example. Their weapons are the same models used for the underwater spears. There is no reason that we can’t also have terrestrial spears too. Quite a lot of the harpoon models are used for rifles and staffs models for tridents.
Personally I think that if they ever did add a terrestrial spear weapon, the devs dug themselves a small hole by naming the current spear a spear. Its not what first springs to my mind when I think of a spear (like, I imagine it being a terrestrial weapon before an aquatic one). To be fair though, I can’t think off hand what they would have called it instead.
I reckon a simple solution would be to just make some weapons both terrestrial and aquatic or add it as a Throwingspear. In the same way we have Swords and Greatswords, we’d have Spears and Throwingspears. Or, maybe call one a Lance?

Added: I would also love to see some other weapons added to the game too. Things like Whips, Halberds, Poleaxes and Crossbows. Maybe even a Flail.

Shezu Tsukai, that is a lovely offer, thankyou verry much but I really wouldn’t feel comfortable taking anything of anyone. Also, I don’t know if i would be breaking the forum rules doing something like that too.

We are absolutly planning on getting married but we just can’t afford it right now (i can’t even afford to get my com fixed atm lol). We are hoping to get married next year, on the 29th of Feb (anniversary of when we met in RL) if we have saved enough by then. We finally decided on a name that has a particular link to the GW universe and thought we’d share it with you guys. : )

Elona.
The name is primarily Hebrew, Hungarian or Greek. The meaning is oak tree, sun ray, shining light or the bright one. It is a variant of Alona (Hebrew, oak tree) or of Ilona (Hungarian, Greek, variant of Helen). Its is also a rare variant of Helen in old Irish/Gaelic too which is mainly why we chose it. We also love the connection it has to the GW universe and kind of apt considering how and where we met. Anyhoo… OhKayThankyouBaBye. : )

Seriously cools story (bro)

So you have twins?

GW is only a couple years old right? so twins twice..

hmm?

GW released in 2005…..that’s 10 years this April.

Yep, we me about 8 or 9 years ago and got together just over 7 years ago. She already had a daughter when we met (best buy one, get one free offer ever lol) so only the last 4 are biologically mine (but they are all mine and loved equally). We think this one is going to be the last but hey, never say never eh.

I’ll just tell you a very quick bit of history (only a quick bit, don’t want to run the risk of sounding all mushy eh lol).
Im Irish and she’s English. We met in game in Kamadan, I proposed to her in game in her guild hall with the Silver Ring (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Silver_Ring) and again in real life on her first trip to Ireland. We moved to my home town back in Ireland just after we had our first kid together and have had 3 more here since. We’re still not married yet as we just cant afford it ATM but we will do it though. The day we got together is a really cool date and would make a sweet wedding date (29th of feb).

So there you go, a little bit of our life. All made possible by GW and made better by GW2. Maybe a little too much information there for you guys but Im sure you’ll cope.

The second most annoying thing about under water combat is that things burn. Like why, lol. Surly they should Scald. A logical solution would be to have Scalding as the under water version of burning and have a new under water FX for it, like instead of flames, maybe bubbles or steam or even heat shimmer.

Logic?
This game allows the slaying of fire based enemy using a ‘fire’ elemental spells; same goes with other elemental enemies using the same kind of elemental spells.

- To kill ‘fire shaman’ using a ‘fire greatsword’

I pointed this out before in a mapchat and someone says;
- Fighting fire with fire
- Just firing out the fire within fire shaman -_-.

Aye, I suppose it is a bit daft lol.
To be fair though, fighting fire with fire is an age old time tested method used when dealing with bush and forest fires by burning fire breaks ahead of it. Also, now that I think about it, fighting ice with water or vice versa would kinda make sense. Water can be used to melt ice and ice to freez water.
All that aside, im not sure they’re on the same scale of daftness as fire and flames under water. : )

It’s been annoying now for ages that some professions only have one underwater Elite skill and the rest only two or three. Its also annoying that for some professions, less than half their normal utility skills work under water. I know that it’s only a very small part of the game content that is actually underwater but before launch, the underwater enviroment was a massive selling point of gw2. For something that they plugged so much, it’s really pretty poor how little work has been put into the skills aspect of it. It seems logical to me to have an under water version of every skill that doesn’t work as it is under water.
I don’t suppose there has ever been any word on if they plan on doing anything with the under water skills?

Snip.
Town clothing was one of the things I spent money in the gem store on and even was one of the reasons I bought the game.

Greetings

Same. They made a massive deal about it before launch. It was one of the major unique aspects of the game….. but now the have remove it. Crazy eh?!

FYI for those that say Anet is ignoring this thread, after the BL Armorsmith issue was posted here, they shut it down. They are paying attention. Easy fix to disable the merchant. Our current issue with the actual implementation and dye process a more difficult issue to resolve.

What was the bug BTW?

I put in a request for a refund on the night of the patch but still no reply (other than the automated “we have recieved your request” reply).
Has anyone had or know of anyone that has had a refund yet?

How did You titled Your refund and what You expect of refund ?

I titled the ticket “Refund for Town Clothes” and the ticket was this:
———————————-
Hey there Suppor Guys. ; )

I would like a refund for some town clothes, outfits and toys that I bought before this latest patch.
Please can I have a fefund for:
3 Cook’s Outfits
2 Pirate Outfits
1 Mad King’s Outfit
1 Fancy Winter Outfit
5 Riding Pants
5 Riding Boots
2 Casual Hoodies
1 Leather Hoddie
1 Layered Vest
1 Bouquet of Roses
and 1 Riding Broom.
If needed, I can provide a screen shot of all the appropriate tonics and toys.

Thanks a million for your time guys. : )
—————————

I have another 1 of each outfit but as they have already been added to the wardrobe, I thought it would be cheeky to ask for a refund for those too. I also have another 1 each of the toys (and some others) but might as well keep 1 of each.

I know they said that the refunds may take a while but im just curious has anyone at all had a refund yet.

Am I playing a beta ? Because it fells like I am playing a beta. A beta of a really bad game. A game without communities and so on.

I still hope this is an April’s fool… they just can’t be serious with this. I mean WTF ? I have heard from so many friends now, that they have uninstalled the game. And come on, who didn’t think this will happen ? Are those developers even playing the game ? I MEAN SERIOUSLY ? Even if the Language thing would work properly, the megaservers still ruin our communities.
I don’t want to be called a ****ing Naz*, every single kittening time I join a Megaserver and speak in the language of MY SERVER !

+1

Just had my first experiance with Megaserver. ITS ABSOLUTLY ####!

IMO, the best event chain in the game is the modniir event chain in Harathi Hinterlands. I have used those events to level all of my characters at some point or another (all 17 of them). Generally, all the camps would be lost and taken several times thoughout the day giving me the oppertuinity to do the whole chain at least once during the day. Usually, ther would be between 1 and 5, maybe even 10 other players doing the first few events with more comming for the champion events. This time, there were no fewer than 50 people an any of the events at any time. The events were all over almost as soon as they began and I hardly got a single hit in on any champion during the whole chain. It was ####!

Oh, and another thing! Like 6 different languages being used in chat! WTF!
We each chose a server with one of the reasons being the main language used. I don’t know about everyone else but i quite like to know what is being said in chat.

The problem arose because of the ORIGINAL implementation of town clothes, which was an unnecessary layer of creation….a 4th class of clothing. Three armor types and town clothes was a forth. That wasn’t sustainable in any sense of the word.

Snip

Im just going to quote something I said in an earlier post on this thread to save me a little time by not writing it out again. : )

Clothing was meant to offer visual options that break the class roles, however we were never completely happy with the way it was isolated from the rest of the game and still felt largely the same.

But thats exactly what was perfect about it. Thats EXACTLY how it should be.

Look, if im a welder (which I am), I wear overalls and a mask to work. A fitness trainer might wear a tracksuit and trainers and a stock broker might wear a suit and tie.
But, when we all get home, we all wear the same casual clothes. Ok, I know thats not a perfect example because we all wear different casuals but you get my point, We all have work clothes specific to our profession (same as the armour class in game) but we all wear the same non-profession-specific clothes after work. You get what Im getting at.

The Town Clothes function was (or is as it stands at the moment) amazing. It does exactly what it says on the tin. A forth armour class that all characters can wear while not at work (in combat). The only problem is that there are not enough activities, games and events to do in them.

In contrast, I would make the oppersite argument that: the ORIGINAL implementation of town clothes was a completely necessary layer of creation….a 4th class of armour. Three combat armor types and town clothes, the forth. That was perfectly sustainable in every sense of the word.

We are a good example of complete oppersite opinions in this topic, Nage. ; )

To me, if I want to wear a baseball cap into battle, I should have the option to do so. That the clothes disappear when I fight, that’s far too annoying for me. I can have a look here, but if I step four steps away I lose the look?

It’s nothing to do with taking four steps this way or that, it simply if you enter combat or take damage.
If you want to wear a baseball cap to work, that’s fine but depending on you job, you are going to get a fired, injured or even killed (because you should have been wearing a helmet instead of your favourit baseball hat). How hard a concept is it to grasp, not all clothes are appropriate for wearing to work, or in this game, in combat. If ppl don’t understand that, then they’re being stubborn and if they do but still want to wear them in combat, then they’re being unreasonable. About as unreasonable as me demading Tequatl as a Ranger Pet!

It’s not a real hard concept to grasp. I’m sure my female elementalist in her skimpy bikini silk armor is far more protected than any baseball cap an ever be.

In a game with cloth “armor”, why even try to argue realism?

Aye, I get what your saying. : )

Some of the armour for the spell caster professions seem woefully lacking but there are several things that are generally assumed in games of this type (games based on D&D games). The spell casters are generally back line fighters in parties and the idea is that because they are the least likely party members to be involved in melee combat, heavier armour is less important. Their form of attacking is casting spells and that often requires them to perform fast elaborate gestures with their arms and so light armour is very practical. Also, almost all D&D above avarage armour is magically imbued with protective qualities and its taken that it is the same with games like this.

The thing is, GW2 made the distinction between “armour” and “clothes” way back at day one. Actually, one of its selling points before release was its unique town clothes feature. I remember reading all about monthes (maybe even years) before we even got to play the beta. Now they plan on removing them, or merging them. Either way, we will not have what we payed for.

If you object to the proposed changes to Town Clothes, Show Your Best to Protest!
Put on your coolest casuals, favourite finery or craziest costume and come join the show.

The show needs you!: The time, date and venue has not yet been determined. The first choice for the venue is Lion’s Arch in the Desolation server but if you have another suggestion, please reply below. The time and date depends on when most people are available to attend so please reply below with when’s best for you. If enough interest is shown, the event will begin as soon as a venue has been chosen and will run untill the protest has achieved its goal or our clothes are forcibly removed from our backs.

From all of us here at the Show Your Best to Protest! group:
Eat, Sleep, Protest, Repeat!

Note: This is just a bit of fun and a chance to show off our town clothes before they likely disappear. Im not trying to cause a riot. : )
