Alright, going to throw my 2 cents here. At the present time, I do not raid for a very simple reason.
It isn’t just because of punishing difficulty. Punishing difficulty can be fine, but ideally the game would have had some degree of middle ground between Easy and Crazy.
It isn’t just because they forced the holy trinity back in. I’m alright with the idea for heal and tank roles added in, and forcing a mix of condi and physical damage. This is okay by me. However I don’t exactly like the whole sitting around for an inordinate amount of time LFHealer to go.
At the end of the day its because a boss gauntlet just is not interesting to me. You could have the most ridiculous loot drops and I still wouldn’t care because it just isn’t fun to do. This was GW2 first attempt at Raids. There’s more raid content to come, sure. Maybe its more refined, maybe its better designed, who knows. But sometimes what you see is what you get. In this case, what I see is not interesting.
I played classic GW for 7 years. Give me content like Underworld, or Fissure of Woe and I would be in there every day.
While I do tentatively agree with this, there are however certain issues, most notably what to do with the existing amounts that would already be considerably above any potentially implemented cap? What about the people with the hillarious of karma or tens of thousands of dungeon tokens, laurels, or what-have-you? Perhaps a method of converting those excess currencies to Gold. Perhaps all currencies should involve a Currency to Gold exchange like Gems(though only the 1 way). While this would allow for people to quickly and easilly get rid of excess amounts and monetize their stacked currencies, it has a host of issues associated with.
Lets all jump into the wayback machine when the game started, silk was plentiful, and kind of useless. It took two scraps to make a bolt, and unless you wanted to make armor between 300 and 399 in your crafting profession, there really wasn’t anything you could do with it. Unlike weapons you couldn’t make rares and throw them in the forge, so they just sat there gathering dust.
Along the way they added a couple of things to the game to reduce the overload of silk. Making a bolt increased from 2 scraps to 3 was a big example, but there was still no real use for that silk that was no in lower supply. There was still an abundance of silk that nobody knew what to do with and its value on the trade post was fundamentally nil(you know, like leather). This still really wasn’t so much of an issue because the applications for silk were negligible.
Then ascended armor crafting came in, and this is where the problem began(and still exists). Silk is required for every armor crafting profession, and they require an ungodly amount of it. Increased demand, reduced supply, does very much lead to the price spike we’re dealing with, and the ramifications go considerably further than that.
Unlike Metal or Wood, you can’t just put your head down and grind out nodes, it can only be earned at a painstaking rate from salvaging. The isn’t so bad considering silk can be salvaged from gear dropped for lv 80 characters, however to make Damask you also need Wool, Cotton, and Linen – which are almost unattainable for the level 80 player. Those materials have also seen a ridiculous spike in price, putting them fundamentally outside of the reach new players making level appropriate armor through crafting.
Lets be perfectly fair about this – the daily task is Log In. That’s it. If you want 10AP feel free to pick 3 things from this grab bag, if you want to I guess. If you want what’s specifically in those boxes, go right ahead and do that specific challenge.
I really think that anyone that complains about this has it backwards. Everything that was in the daily/monthly is now frontloaded. You will earn this by logging in and doing nothing else. Everything except AP. If you’re complaining about having to go out of your way to earn 10 Achievement points, then I invite you to just not do them. Its your choice as to whether the time involved to earn your 10AP is worth that particular reward.
This is really a non issue. They changed something and change is bad.
the generic skeleton keys to open up the bandit chests that people dig up in silverwastes are also used to unlock the bandit chest in your home instance..
So, for finishing the Point of No Return story we get rewarded with, among other things, a Bandit Chest in our home instance, which like all other things in the home instance is a once per day object.. Yet it still consumes Skeleton keys. Can someone explain the rationale behind this?
Topic creator’s mistake is he’s trying to apply logic into a fantastical setting. Tyria is a world where dragons, ray guns, instantaneous travel and talking trees exist. A world where Mesmers can create clones of themselves, a race of mole people attack with rifles that fire sound waves, and a group of rats that individually get smarter based upon the concentration of their population. All of this, and the central, most populated, most cosmopolitan city is successfully attacked and destroyed by blimps. I think we through reason out of the window a long time ago.
(also the warrior Adrenaline burst skill for Rifle needs to have its channel time cut in half, right now its just too aweful for words)
Lightsbane, I kind of understand your point in that there’s far more to get in PvE than WvW, however they are much more easilly accessible and not hidden behind fortified walls that can be defended by enemy hoardes. Getting some particular points can be difficult especially if your server is particularly weak or doesn’t rotate to a given colour. You can legitimately try for days, or weeks to get a given PoI in WvW yet any PvE map can be earned within 2-3 hours.
Bandito Baba, I do somewhat feel your pain, however you’ve made choices. You have chosen to pursue a legendary and as such you’re going through WvW map completion. It is something that you particularly do not enjoy yet you’re doing so because you want the carrot on the end of the stick. The same in regard to the Exotic Waterbreather. There is comparatively little underwater combat and our existing gear is more than sufficient yet you’ve chosen to pursue this given item. You’ve made a decision that the end item to you was worth the time spent in PvP to earn it.
You have made choices concerning how it is that you wish to play the game, and now you’re here complaining about the choices you have made. I understand your frustrations, yet I do not sympathize.
The problem that we’re seeing here is one that was mirrored in GW1 for Years. PvP balance influences all other forms of gameplay. Yes, there are balance tweaks that make things work slightly differently, but for the most part they want classes to function the same way so that a player can transition easily from one format to another without having to relearn their entire class. Conditions are fine, and perhaps too strong in PvP, and yet too weak in PvE.
Anyone who doesn’t understand why Ascended Gear was a big deal wasn’t playing when Fractals was announced. The Game sold with the idea of No Gear Grind and that Best In Slot would always be best in slot. You could go on a break for months or years and your gear would be just as good, ready for you to start playing again. Then two months after the game was out they introduced statistically better gear.
This not only led to people being angry about bait and switch tactics, but rampant speculation. You need Ascended gear to deal with Agony in Fractals, maybe they’ll bring agony elsewhere? Maybe in 6 months they’ll introduce another tier on top of Ascended. People were MAD. I know people that I had been playing with since beta, who had preordered the game in April that demanded their money back(and got it). It was a giant issue that caused fundamentally damaging rifts within the community.
I’ll be perfectly frank. In regards to Achievement Points, play how you want is not an argument. People will play how they want, regardless. If you want AP you’re going to play to get it, and thus play how you want. If you don’t care about AP you’ll continue to do whatever and play how you want.
They’ve gone and drastically simplified the daily and monthly rewards as well. Previously there was something along the lines of 11 categories per day each worth 1AP. Now they’re all worth 0. If you do any 3(or more) from the list you get 10 AP. It simplifies things. It honestly makes things easier and takes less time. What you’re really complaining about is not that they’re making you play their way and not your own way, but rather that they’re altering how it is that you choose to play your own way.
In regards to tracks that roll over like the snowball mayhem or choir bell, I couldn’t agree more.
Gaile – the problem is that the event is actually kind of bugged. The daily just requires participation, so you should be able to go in, miss every note and still get your daily. I had gone in, hit notes, and was ejected for failure about 4 or 5 times before the daily recognized that I had participated.
The game is over two years old, why does it feel like we’re perpetually in beta? Lets try this, oh lets try this!
Does this seem like budgetary cuts/job cuts/job reassignment from the “Forum Communication Team” supplemented by player Volunteers? I guess even The Frog is being sent over to Living World development..
There are few words to express how frustrated and dissatisfied I am becoming with this company and its relations with its customers. Yes, we’re playing a game, though I’d kindly ask them to stop treating us like children.
So.. you’re creating an impotent position of volunteers… A position with no real authority, influence, or voice. The players are in fact LESS capable than the normal forum poster, who will be able to make personal opinions known, attempt to influence things for the better, and the like. Everything that you’re saying the the Volunteers can do should already be within the realm of the forum poster anyhow.
This position is one that nobody asked for, and fewer people wanted.
I’m at a point in my playing this game that I know Living Story comes out every second tuesday(when they feel like it). I don’t need to be told, or teased, or hyped on that, because I’ll log in and play that content. What I want to know about and get hyped about is all the stuff that may(or may not) be coming that isn’t living story. Because policy prevents you from telling me anything about what may or may not be coming, I can’t get exited about it. I’ll log in today, get about 1 1/2 hours of enjoyable story, and then will likely put the game down again until the LS comes back in January.. or whenever… maybe I’ll be back..
Edit: You know what, I feel the need to further elaborate. I’d played Guild Wars from its 2005 release all the way until GW2’s release. I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 since the head start. I have 8 level 80s and map completion. I have greatly enjoyed playing this game and have tried to sell my friends on it.
I – was – excited.
Then some time past. Within the first few months we had expanded into Southsun Cove with a brand new area and Fractals was released. Its new content, and and its free. Awesome. Christmas rolled around with and then in the new year they sold us on Living Story. It didn’t have the greatest of introductions with Flame and Frost, but hey, its new stuff and was full of promise for great things to come. Over the rest of the year we’d deal with the introduction of Scarlet, the Queen’s Jubilee, and the Nightmare Tower. Sure, some of the content was fun, but a lot of it was zergy and mindless, with prohibitive time constraints. But we played, hopeful for new content.
By this time the game was a year old, and the only new additions that had stuck around were Southsun Cove, Fractals. Then, really taking to heart the concept of Living Story as content delivery system, they introduced the Fractured path and later the Edge of the Mists. Why did it fit into the narrative? Because reasons. It needed to be shoehorned in because that was how they were doing things.
Then they took a break for awhile, before finishing Season 1. Then they took another break for awhile, and put out parts 1-4 of season 2… then they took another break and while the story was really good in season 2, the stop-start-stop pacing in conjunction with the lack of new content was taking its toll.
I do not mean to say that the introduction of Dry Top or Silverwastes was poorly done, quite to the contrary. However, for many players like myself, the damage had already been done. I’ve no desire to go farm drytop endlessly for Dynamic events and I’d already become disinterested for the most part before SW was released. Based on past history and lack of any (Non Living Story) content news, I’ll assume that there’s nothing. Which means there’s nothing to get excited over.

There have been no new Dungeons since launch (1 Story mode +3-4 paths, with tokens exchangeable for gear)
There has not been a new Dungeon path since Aetherpath over a year ago.
No new Fractals since the Fractured patch last November.
This Living Story is our content update. While leagues better than Season 1, it has issues like, lengthy breaks and duration of content. Based off of what they’ve added, there just isn’t enough here for me(someone who has played since prerelease). When they took a 3 month pause awhile back I fundamentally stopped playing the game. Since they’ve started up again I think I’ve logged in 4 times.. I do the new story, and then find something else for the next two weeks. Now Winterfest is around the corner and I’m concerned they’ll take another break for that… then a break for a WvW tournament… sigh
In this topic Lishtenbird talks about what players want and why we cannot have nice things.
Seriously though, you left New Dungeons and Fractals off your list. This is a serious issue, and should be discussed much more more, except for the fact that the players who generally want this gave up long ago as apparently the dungeon team got dissolved so Anet can put all their eggs into the Living Story basket.
ungh.. I remember back in Beta when defeated Ranger pets would just limp around doing nothing and needed to be revived in the same way a downed player was… I also miss the “I Will Avenge You!” shout..
I suppose they could have gone with this style china cap, but it wouldn’t have been as scary for the costume(or would it…)
So.. let me see if I understand things correctly… You’re complaining about incorrect hat design, in a world where you can hold a sword out in front of you and fire lasers at people… In a world where we have semi-bipedal cat/bull people. In a world where a major world leader is the manifestation of a tree.
Lets ignore the fantastical. You’re complaining about a hat on a halloween costume.. Halloween is supposed to be scary, and what I’m seeing is a hat that’s cracked and broken, the wearer probably in worse shape than that. Its ominous I would not want to see a person shuffling along with a limp or a mangled leg, the brim of that hat low covering their face. The imagination itself does wonders..
But you’re complaining about a hat. Alright then..
Trahearne can also summon multiple Flesh Golems at once, Marjory can make a bone bridge, Kasmeer can blink multiple times in succession and across chasms and during the last chapter Countess Anise could use Decoy and remain stealthed in perpetuity.
Also Taimi rides Scruffy, when do we get mounts?
Same question in regards to Personal Story
Will believe it when I see it. 6 weeks of LS followed by 3 months off.. hype hype hype, no delivery..
WvW map completion takes patience. Every week you’re going to get 1 of the 3 colours. Every now and again you’re likely to rotate through those colours, it can be a matter of time waiting until then. When you’re Blue for instance, go to the blue borderlands and cap every PoI and Vista that’s hidden safely behind walls – do the same for the Blue areas of EB. Wait until you’re Green and Red to do the same. It can be a lot of waiting, but its the easiest way to do it.
I have purchased 2 precursors from the TP. I’m presently massing exotics that I earn either as drops or from dungeon tokens. When my ele’s inventory is full I’ll take them to the forge combined with Mystic Forge stones. If I get a pre I’ll decide then if I want to make that given weapon or sell.
Why is the style section of the Black Lion a vertical listing with large icons rather than a grid, or a listing like in the trade post or merchant? Clicking one brings up the preview regardless, to me it seems like the Gem Store has an unnecessarilly bloated interface.
back with April’s feature patch they changed how you unlock traits. Instead of the classic way of buying a Adept, Master, and Grandmaster tome to unlock that given trait level, now you must go and do various open world accomplishments to unlock each individual trait.
If you open your trait panel you can click on the given trait and you should get a description of what’s required to unlock that given trait.
Alternatively you can go to the trainer who used to sell the training manuals and pay some gold and skill points to unlock individual traits.
I take the same kind of break every time the Living Story goes on hiatus. Gone for a few weeks/months, then I’m back until it goes on hiatus again. One of these days, I likely won’t come back either.
Transmutation charges are easy enough to obtain. Make a new character, sent it for a trip to map the towns – BAM, you’ve enough transmutation charges to remake your entire outfit.
That’s honestly something that I consider to be the biggest issue – There’s no consolidation of information. If you have to go and dig through all the drek, you’re never going to find what information exists, and players are going to end up frustrated and believe that there’s nothing..
Biggest issue I can see with transparency is the following
There doesn’t seem to be any consolidation. Some stuff shows up on reddit, some on twitter, some on facebook, and some here. Something might be caught somewhere in a PoI or a Ready-Up, and unless you’re using some kind of E-Wizardry, you’re going to miss it.
Gaile mentioned that SAB is in fact going to be returning. I didn’t know this, must have missed it in the ridiculous pile of drek that we have here. People are saying that there’s no plans for new dungeons. Must have missed that one too. With a forum that’s nigh impossible to use and information scattered to the winds, how am I, the end user, supposed to even have a chance of knowing any of this?
THAT is the biggest issue with transparency. It isn’t so much a lack of information(of note: there’s a lack of information), its the ability to access the information.
For the same reason that they took away the awesome splash page login screen from the beta.. because they wanted to make sure that we read the announcements.
Of all the things that we had and was taken out, that log in screen was the best.. I want it back…
I don’t really think this is the proper place to discuss aspects of sadism and masochism. Alternatively you can always pick up the chunks of raw ore that they produce and through the into the brazier to get credit.
Of note, its Sadism if you take pleasure out of causing pain or discomfort.
I recently rerolled a norn warrior, and with the NPE the default Warrior healing skill has been changed from Healing Surge to Heal Signet. In the first Personal Story instance that you get at level 10 the Sons of Svanir opponents were unable to outdamage the passive heal from the signet.
If this was still GW1 I’d agree with you – This however is not that GW..
I don’t know anyone that’s ever had to compete for aquatic kills… Jump into any arbitrary pond – kill stuff.
I can easilly get my 10 revives in the dungeons that I do..
The bigger issue that I have is inconsistent behaviours. Some NPCs will revive defeated or downed players, others will not. (We love you Honor’s Claw)
It is jarring though to go from a fully voiced scene in which npcs talk to each other to simple text boxes when its the pc and another npc talking… I don’t even remember when the last time we had a cine with the pc talking..
I find it peculiar how a lot of the LS content involves a cinematic clip with NPCs talking to each other, followed by a a series of text boxes in which they interact with the player. What exactly is the reason for this? Is it an immersion thing, because text boxes tend to break my immersion pretty fast.. If its the lack of player choice and RP, that isn’t helped by the fact that there’s fundamentally no options on the player end(either cyclical or non-existant), or is it that you can’t get the voice actors back who originally recorded the male/female character voices…
Can’t we finally have the PC talk again in cinematics?
Suggestion – You cite the rationale for this as performance in WvW – presumably you already have an active character that you’ve been using in WvW, earning World xp, badges of honour and the like. We already have a currency in WvW the Badge of Honour. Perhaps not a gem store item but an item available for Badges, lets say 1000 Badges of Honour that allows you to level up to 80. Could also be tied behind a World Rank wall as well, like the Gift of Battle.
Another amazing feature in GW1 that really needs to make its debut in GW2.
I beg to differ. Oh god do I beg to differ. Polymock was horrible in GW1 – Will be even worse in GW2. I wish we could all forget that it ever existed…
Yakslapper title says hello.. Didn’t they calculate that to take over 60 years of 8 hour days just killing yaks?
Not 60 years. But my calculations do assume no travel or killing time (although travel time can be considered moot since the respawn timers get staggered, but then you fight yaks in the middle of camps).
My bad.. It was 60+ years based on 2 hours of daily gameplay killing 2 yaks every 5 minutes.
then you’re going to have issues with jealousy.. and probably polyamory.. Are you sure you want interspecies relationships? and Asura with anything is just squick..
This is really right now more of an issue of lack of transparency. They changed functionality.. Why exactly? There didn’t seem to be anything wrong with the item to the vast majority of players. Instead its lost some degree of functionality with no explanation. Even if you weren’t using the item beforehand it raises questions.
I’d honestly have preferred if at the same time as they removed its ability to be used in dungeons that they had made it into a costume brawl item. Rather than straight up being a removal, it becomes an exchange of functionality, finding new uses.
While I do think that this idea is intriguing, how would the game go about properly randomly generating each dungeon floor? For this system to truly work, each experience needs to be at least somewhat different than the previous time. While Fractals is still randomized, Grawl Fractal is still Grawl Fractal. It would be interesting to know how it could be properly generated on the fly..
What about consumables like bank access or black lion merchant summons?
While Fractals doesn’t have a repair anvil inside, players have circumvented that by logging out, repairing in Lion’s Arch, and then joining the rest of their party in the instance. How would you handle such an issue, and how would that penalize people who temporarilly drop due to connection issues?
We will have a CDI phase on GvG.
