I didn’t run with a dev, however, the only way for them to learn our side of WvW is to participate with us. I really respect and applaud the “AaD” initiative. They immersed themselves into the fray of how some of us play. Some play for PPT, some play for roaming, some play for karma, and even some just play for social interaction.

What better way to see our side of WvW then to become one of us? Hopefully, they will be able to get feedback that was also experienced by a dev. They will have a better understanding now on how adjustments and WvW traits effect other parts and play styles of the game. If the devs don’t enjoy “our” created ways to enjoy WvW then the game will never be what we want and should look elsewhere for fun. However, by experiencing “our” ways of WvW they may just like how we have fun and have never really understood it till now.

Thank you Anet for doing the initiative as it’s the best thing you have done since beta for the game of WvW.

You guys are all wrong….more PvDoor from the larger zerg was the goal. They nailed this perfect. Havoc squads and strategy….Pish Posh…get in the zerg and spam 1 at the door.

Major skill required to do this…be careful.

These aren’t my ideas but I have heard them in the past and kinda open to them.

1. Create gear with condi defensive stat. Then you could mix power defensive and condi defensive gear. More variety in builds this way.

2. Add some sort of condi ferocity stat. This would limit the complete stacking of dire gear. You can’t run PVT gear and put out the same damage as a DVT gear set. You need ferocity to add burst to a power build where condi doesn’t have this metric.

Well,fighting thieves with PU is pretty much easy and good for practice.

If its easy it isn’t good practice.

it is good for beginners.to understand the mesmer mechanic and how thieves work.

PU gives you aegis if you use stealth so it would be the same as a Guardian except that Guardians have way more access to aegis than a PU mesmer. Anyway, PU wasn’t the question from the OP, but a strategy to fight thieves. Having PU doesn’t change the strategy to fight thieves, but does allow for a mistake or two.

Each video contains a different build (i.e. see the shatter vid) and some do include PU builds and some do not. However, the strategy doesn’t change when fighting thieves. I kill thieves all the time on any class I play…PU or not. It’s because I understand thieves mechanics and implement the same strategy to beat them.

If a thief has access to no cooldowns, venom, condi cleanse on stealth, blinds, and pretty much stealth at any point they please…wouldn’t this qualify as easy mode too? Maybe that’s why I named my thief that exact phrase and is one of the most boring classes i’ve ever played in my 15 plus yrs of playing MMO’s.

PU is a good place to start on mesmer and when you become comfortable with thieves try to pickup other traits that are much better than PU.

Thieves are definitely the hardest fight you will encounter in GW2. IMO nothing competes with the mobility, blinds, consistent burst dmg, and access to stealth. Forgot to mention they don’t have any cooldowns on attack skills, therefore, you have to understand their stealth to have a chance to beat them. The best advice I can give you is to dodge roll 3 seconds after they stealth. This is a guess but they have to come out of stealth by 4 seconds so it gives you time to see them and counter their attack. Use blocks after dodge roll, utilize your immob with main hand sword, and don’t forget about the F3 skill if you are playing shatter and you take the trait to allow yourself to shatter. The F3 skill will stun a thief and interrupt their shadow step or heal. This is great to ensure your shatter lands for max dmg.

Here are some vids of several different ways I have dealt with thieves in the past. Please note that my playstyle is more reactive and therefore I use a lot of blocks to weaken enemies before I attack. Also, please note that I am by no means an expert at beating thieves, however, once you understand them better you can stand a better chance of winning.

According to Dulfy, it was announced on Aug 16 and added to the game on Dec 10 with the Wintersday Patch.
Unfortunately Devon’s Post only says “8 months ago” so we can’t know for sure but it could have been after the patch.

If you click on the 8 months it will switch it to the date. Devon’s post was on November 15th.

I by no means am that good at rifle warrior….however, that is my point. I can casually play the killshot warrior and do stupid damage. If you watch the vid I even win a 1v1 against a good guardian. I got really lucky at moving away and interrupting at the right moments.

Rifle is fine…problems with warrior are EP and BS. Good grief those skills used together are the most OP thing in this game.

@LB, I agree that it seems to be server side. Pretty much my entire guild over the last few weeks have stopped playing due to the lag. I was able to play WvW last night for the first time in a few days with only minimal lag. The skill lag kinda came and went in about 5 to 10 minute spans. I wouldn’t think it’s hardware issues from my side since sPvP and other programs, such as video editing, work just fine.

@warriorjrd, it’s entirely possible that some of the occurrences were due to massive battles elsewhere on the map, however, it seemed random in my guild who was experiencing the lag and who wasn’t. This just seems to have been going on for weeks and can become extremely frustrating to not be able to dodge or use a skill combo.

@NormalPerson, I feel like this is the issue too. Have you heard anything in regards to stopping the current attacks?

I was just trying to figure out if anyone else was experiencing this prohibitive lag. Maybe we are turning the corner on the lag since I was able to play most of the night with minimal lag. I’ll let you guys know tomorrow if I have success or not this evening. Good luck out there!

Okay, so i’ve tried to be patient with the skill lag but it has been going on and off for the last two weeks. Even in small skirmishes and 1v1’s i’m experiencing 3 second skill lag and sometimes I can’t even use certain skills. What I mean by this is that I activate a skill and the effect doesn’t happen and 3 to 4 seconds later my full cooldown initiates.

At some point or another over the last several weeks some (not all) of my guildies have experienced this too; along with rubber-banding. I’m on HOD server and haven’t been able to play WvW b/c this has gotten so bad. I only play WvW so you can imagine how frustrating this is.

For the record…I played sPvP last night for a little bit and no lag there. I’m not sure if it’s isolated to a specific WvW server or if this was just luck of the draw that I didn’t get it in sPvP. Anyone else experiencing these things?

I was having the same problem last night. I would Illusionary leap or Blink and start another skill or switch weapons only to find my self back where I had started before the Illusionary leap or Blink. I logged out b/c it became so bad I couldn’t even land an attack b/c I was never where I thought I was.

Guys, it’s so simple. They ask for ideas and what we want in WvW and we give it to them. Then they purposely ignore everything on the list (OS is the forced exception) to make WvW as casual as possible. This does two things….frustrates the WvW die-hards and they leave the game, which in turn keeps WvW casual, and also pushes more people to sPvP. The sole reason WvW will never get attention is b/c there can’t be an admission to investors that backing sPvP was wrong and that sPvP failed.

If they cared to improve WvW they have plenty of minor changes that were discussed during Alpha, Beta, and post launch that would make a world of difference for WvW players. Yes, maps were part of these discussions but so were larger party sizes and guild commander tags…or even easier to do is to make commander tags with different colors. You change the color reference from blue to whatever color….that complicated coding could take all of 10 seconds of someone’s time. Too hard they say…move on and suggest something else.

Okay, so EOTM was supposed to be a testing ground. Let’s use it….try some of the stuff we have asked for since launch and see if it truly is good or bad.

I agree that there is a ton of negative feedback on the current list of patches to WvW b/c the majority of them were frowned upon before they were launched and it’s an “I told you so” moment. Most of the proposed updates and requests have fallen on deaf ears or we get the universal answer of that takes way too much coding to and is complicated to figure out. Give me a break, we haven’t been asking for the moon here…

We wanted a GvG realm…took a dev acting like a stuck up kitten to get that one. They could have implemented that a long long time ago but only did it for PR cover your kitten reasons.

We have been asking for skins and gear in exchange for badges….Easy to do (it’s in every other type of the game) but we are still waiting on all stats of weapons, armor, and trinkets to be purchased with badges.

We want a minor commander tag or a guild commander tag. Again, not that hard to do…Look at what some people have created through the API, however, we are still waiting on minor changes that haven’t even been given the light of day.

The devs wonder why they are slammed every time they post in a WvW thread….they should listen more and give the customer what they want…and let me tell you, it isn’t sPvP. The problem isn’t that they can’t do things we want or that it will imbalance WvW or PvE. It simply is that they will be kitten ed before they ever admit they were completely wrong in the Alpha and Beta that WvW would be casual and sPvP would be king of the game. I’ll say this, companies aren’t successful by telling their customer what they will like and won’t like, but are successful by giving the customer what they want.

I’m not trying to say that my guild has skill (We play for fun!) or any one else on HOD has skill but we certainly engage in our share of fights. Sometimes we have more numbers sometimes we don’t. Sometimes we win fights and sometimes we get wrecked. Here are a few fights from Tuesday and Wednesday this week. When we aren’t roaming we will run a group average of 10-12. I would say CD and NSP have fine players too but don’t let people tell you that HOD is just numbers without skill.

I believe it was in October when my guild transferred to Yak’s Bend. We have had absolutely no regrets moving to this server. I love the enthusiasm the wvw community has here. It doesn’t matter if we are outmanned or losing the week there is still plenty of heart in this server to keep bringing the fights. If you are even thinking about looking for a new home then you have found the best GW2 has to offer right here.

As others have said the community is accepting and extremely friendly. “Come on in, the water’s fine!”

Most of the problems people have mentioned in this thread are WvW problems, not seasonal league tournament problems. Just the fact that you have all these angry people who suddenly care about their WvW status when they didn’t give a kitten before is a huge success.

You do realize this is a WvW discussion right? Of course they are WvW problems. server imbalances are huge. DB would be lucky to be a viable bronze league at this point. It just means a ton of infighting and no chance to actually play in WvW because servers with greater activity i.e. FA just spawn camp and zerg roll over everything lower end servers try to mount. It’s not fun if it’s not even competitive.

What? DB is a solid Silver League. The problem was that FA, SBI and Yaks didn’t belong there.

Anet needs to read the strength of the servers better and make divisions better. TC, SoS, Mag, FA, SBI and Yaks would be a great league.

I’m not saying that the Silver league was accurately balanced, however, Yak’s did lose to SBI by almost 200K in week 2 of league 1. We then beat SBI by about 95K in week 6. I know we had an amazing coordinated effort to prepare and fight SBI for the rematch, however, I don’t really see us being able to keep up that level of effort week in and week out. I guess my point is that I doubt you would have seen that level of effort outside of the leagues. I agree coverage is the name of the game but there is some incentive as a result of the leagues. I for one have enjoyed the leagues even though most of the matchups have been blowouts. I don’t think canning the league system will make it any better and I don’t feel like the matchups were any better before the leagues started.

Just noting that Yak’s (preseason was picked by other players as high as 4th for the silver league) only beat Dragonbrand by about 85K points. I doubt you guys need to be in the bronze league, however, I do agree the problem is and always will be coverage. I think Yak’s surprised a lot of people and now it’s easy to say that Yak’s doesn’t belong against BP, Ebay, and DB, but don’t blame Anet for not noticing this when the player base themselves had it wrong too.

Agreed, it was a lot of fun and laughs. We normally don’t mess with SMC as a guild b/c zerg fighting ain’t really our thing. We are getting better at it but overall we still stick to small skirmishing and misdirection sneaky tactics. It was really funny b/c one of our guys threw down a ballista print to help choke you guys and I swear just before you knocked us off, one of our guys said, that’s not the best place for that as it’s too close to the edge. Next thing you know half of our group, including myself, were knocked off. The second big fight up there was much better even though you guys eventually took us down. Shout out to NA and ORB!….Only guys to stop and fight me as I was running solo yesterday just before primetime. The rest just tried to zerg me or ran b/c they weren’t in a zerg. Seems like most of the fights I got into were interrupted by those rude zergs, but hey, it keeps you on your toes always watching your back for 50 people trying to role one person. I’m not mad at the zerg…they see red and it’s dead…I respect that.

The fight I most remember from yesterday I believe was with an ORB engi. I had a good fight with you in the ruins (some pesky thief interrupted us too) and again just north of the NE camp below the centaurs. Good show bro! Keep it up.

Fight night was fun, (posing kinda late I know but I been busy and whatnot) had a good time polishing the dust off my Mesmer somewhat.

Good fights with BS, wish a few more Yaks would have showed (other than the PD folks who were awesome).

I wish I coulda been there….I am trying a new phant build (no I do not participate in the condi bullkitten meta) on my mes and I really wanted to test it out. However, I was 125 dragonite away from my ascended scepter so I participated in the Poisonous Venom Events known as PvE temples last night. I hate admitting this but i’m coming clean.

You guys are forgetting that WvW is supposed to be casual and not a serious end game. The list is way too long to cover but almost every change to WvW has been to benefit a quicker cap of structures to get those rewards.

You guys should go and watch the latest Dev and QA video and you will get a better perspective of how casual the WvW development is. After you watch it and then accept that your hopes of a serious WvW future are not going to happen it makes it easier to watch PvDoor. It’s only going to get easier to cap things if they stay with their current “MO”. IMO the WvW team isn’t serious enough to understand how their changes effect the overall battle in the end. Which is partly due to the fact they don’t have the time to play it as often as we do.

I fully hope they will allow a test server in the future so the community of players can help evaluate updates before they are released. Would slow down content a lot but overall I think it would create a better game in the end.

Taquito you use fireworks to kill people…..That is more OP than any other weapon in the game. Can you get a legendary fireworks box? How many crayons do you have to stick up a dragons kitten to get that one?

Narsil – I’ll def let him know you said hi….he’s extremely kitten ed about the current condi meta duration and sPvP bloodlust nodes in WvW so he hasn’t been online too much these days. I know he is still playing but not too much dueling for him right now.

I disagree that phant builds are trash. I think most people playing phant builds now are horrible players. I can’t tell you why b/c then you would know my secrets!!!! They have been nerfed hard (almost 50% on all aspects of the build) but they are still viable. You used to be able to just lay your face on the keyboard in any direction and now you have to start on the left side and role right. LOL….just kidding! It ain’t what it used to be but it still works if you are patient and aware of the other classes CC skills.

Yes, definitely good times dueling last night. I was one of the sword mesmers from PD but when I switched to my ranger you really put the beat down on me. It really inspired me to get my ranger back out and figure out a better build for dueling. I’m currently spec’d for group fighting and really lack the regen sustainability that is needed in dueling.

Keep up the good fights and duels. A lot of good times last night at the windmill.

First, I’m out of town and won’t be able to play at all in this matchup until Monday or Tuesday.

In my experience, average player skill level is somewhat higher in lower-ranked servers. This is not to say that players are better: simply that they’re devoting their time and effort to a different aspect of gameplay: solo/skirmishing versus group-play. If FC or IOJ (or DH) were to play a tier 3 server, I believe our players would win a majority of 1v1 or 3v3 situations, but lose almost all 15v15 or 30v30’s.

The current system makes this matchup unfortunate. Either Darkhaven goes all-out in an effort to stomp IOJ and FC and gain points, or they ease off to encourage competition and lose points, thereby making a future rematch more likely. Is that what you really want?

In any event, there are many of us who welcome 1v1’s and small-group matches. Feel free to PM or /w me or my [PD] mates or a number of others if you think all DH players are zerg riders.

True most of us in WvW from FC devote ourselves to Skirmish and solo / roaming, so far i havent been impressed, lol except PD but PD only so far has come in groups not really a solo wise, but i still got most of them down to 10% and 50% a necro, a mesmer and a guard or warr, I wanna see you all in duels this week, I need some new fresh faces!!

I’ve been hit or miss getting much if any time to play this week but hopefully I can get some duels in before the matchup is over. I roamed in the SW camp area on DH late last night early this morning and ran in to mostly up level groups so nothing to write home about. I’m sure FC has some great players that aren’t playing on up levels but fate hasn’t brought them my way yet. If I can play Thursday i’ll try to make fight club…they are always a blast.
