Those new spawn are pretty difficult to solo. They have way more HP than normal mobs. I think they are “veteran” quality altho their portrait doesn’t display it.
Obsessive compulsive behavior is what makes ANet good money We thank you for paying our monthly server bills
Booo the mystic cogs are account bound so you can’t use multiple characters to farm them.
Probably cost a lot of gems too.
This is assuming Anet would try to fix any scarcity issues. If a small number of individuals are manipulating the market, there’s nothing ANet can do without compromising the integrity of their own game.
The original poster seems want to justify (in his mind) that power traders/market manipulators whatever you call them can be beneficial to the game economy. Unfortunately they only raise the prices of things and screw over the people who actually need them. Most game economies are enclosed and small enough that it’s very easy to manipulate on a large scale. ANet tries to mitigate this problem by making a global economy so that things aren’t that easy to manipulate but some people do still try.

I like having options… you can either spend a ton load of time farming karma to get a guaranteed loadstone or spend a ton load of time trying your luck by farming Orr to get a non-guaranteed loadstone or spend a ton load of time farming gold to buy your guaranteed expensive loadstone. Options are good for the players.
I hate market resellers/manipulators they jack up the prices of items and screw over the newbies.
This has been a debate in various mmo games all over the internet so here’s my 2 cents perspective of the issue.
Why gold farming bots are bad:
1. Gold farming bots or manually inflates the game’s currency (making the game’s gold worth less in comparison of other things that players might want).
2. Gold farming bots disrupts and destabilize the game economy by making the game currency too common. As with any economic system, the more money there are circulating in the game the higher the prices of things in the long term making it more expensive for new players to buy things they need.
3. New players become discourage if they cannot buy the equipment they needed to advance or are forced to play longer in order to accumulate the amount of money to buy the same equipment needed in order to advance. This can be detrimental to the game’s and community’s health in the long run. New players or community members are what keeps the game from stagnating.
4. Bots can be disruptive inside the game. Depending on the game and the botting script. They can prevent players from enjoying the game or be a general annoyance (esp. spam bots).
5. Bots can cause the prices of some items in the game to collapse from over supply. This can be a good thing or a bad thing for the players. It can make rare items more abundant or it can make things become worth-less due to over abundance. This can force the hand of developers to adjust the drop rate of items making it even harder for non-botters to acquire the items they need (or force them to buy from the botters).
6. Botters can shorten the life of the game. All games have a pre-designed shelf life. Some games can last months, some can last years or even a decades (ie. EQ or UO). But eventually all games becomes obsolete and/or unsustainable economically in the eyes of the developers. Botters can hasten this process by a dozens or even a hundred fold.
7. Botters are like parasites. They take and take from the game without giving much back. They kill your favorite game like a slow acting disease.

Since there is no “secure trading” be careful when doing trades. You can very easily get scammed.
I wish there’s a name change too.
There’s also the taxation issues. All non-charity based income are taxable. ArenaNet would have to issue you a 10-99 form for you and the US government and that would require a ton of man power and pain in the butt. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-1099-form.htm
I agree with the idea of having account bound corrupted/charged loadstones being available for purchase thru the Karma system. Maybe it can cost something around 10-15K karma per stone.
A majority of the players seems to indicate the only viable build for PvE is “use the great sword”. Pretty strong ? I seems to die more often than other classes I have played.
Sounds to me that this class is horribly broken if you have to play a certain way to even be viable. I mean why even give this class other weapons if the only “viable” option is great sword. Sounds to me that this class is a design failure. I think ArenaNet needs to take another look at this class and give it a major re-design.
I don’t feel heroic at all playing this class compared to say a guardian or warrior or heck even engineer. I guess this class is meant to be played as a support in a party setting.
with 3.4% damage reduction and 2700 armor that’s around 91.80% damage reduction ?
It’s really based on your preferance. I do the healing turret + flamethrower kit + rocket launcher turret combo and it’s worked well ever since.
I’m using the same stat configuration as you too on my flamethrower engineer. I think it allows me to survive longer at the expensive of doing insanely huge DPS.
Well the mob difficulty are too high. Plus there’s not much to do there except maybe harvest ancient wood/orichalcum nodes and kill Karka for monthlies. It’s a pretty boring map atm. But Anet mentioned they will be adding more stuff involving South Cove in future updates.
Well Orr is designed somewhat differently, if you noticed there’s no “hearts” area in the whole island. Instead you have Temples of the Gods events. Once certain requirements are met the “Pact” will attempt to launch a major attack on the Risen to liberate the corrupted temples. Once liberated (these require a lot of people maybe around at least 10 for any chance of success — Dwayna seems to be the easiest) you gain access to Exotic level 80 armor set from each of the old Gods. They cost a lot of Karma (42,000 per piece) so a full set cost around 210,000 karma. Once you gain 100% exploration on the map and gained full set of the exotic armor there’s really little reason to go back to the place.
Managed to get to all the corrupted temple of the gods today. Spend the whole day doing it. Good thing our server is pretty active in such events. Most other servers are pretty much dead.
I hate it that you’re forced to participate in WvWvW to get 100% completion.
Dragon Nest, Maple Story, Vindictus, and Mabinogi all were too grindy for me. That’s why they are all called Asian grinders. Unfortunate but true … many asian players tend to favor repetitive game play. Most of these types of players relax at home with a beer after a day’s hard work in the office. They don’t want anything that requires thinking. So they just want something that requires minimum thinking. Personally I like games with minimal grinding but lots of stories.

Same here. Card approval failed. I believe this issue crops up when the CC/Paypal Email is different from the one you registered the game with.
If I may suggest, how about a solo mode for the storyline dungeon ? Often I play during odd hours due to work and often it’s impossible to find anyone to do the dungeons with. I love the storyline and I’m a lore junkie and would love it if I can experience the storyline.

So cool!!!
How about putting ectos on the item mall.. like 4-5 ectos per 100 gems. I think everyone can be happy about this. You can either salvage forever to get your ectos or spent $$$ for it. ArenaNet makes money, you get your exotic/legendary. Everyone happy.
The odds of getting something good from those gambling chest are terrible. That’s why the Japanese government has banned all japanese MMOs from selling gambling chest/bags/whatever-else-they-call-it to players.
My commentary about dungeons:
- Hard to get a group of players together. We need a cross server dungeon finder.
- Dungeon is challenging but some parts are just darn frustrating.
- Lack of Risk vs. Reward. There’s too much risk not enough reward.
Whoever thought of saturating Orr with mobs would provide more challenge gotta go back to game design school. More is not merrier in this case.
I’m a casual gamer. No longer have time to grind X armor or Y weapons to be able to keep up with the Joneses.
That’s exactly what happens. Power creep is a huge problem in MMO design.
I agree with all the points posted by the OP. Let me add, for god’s sakes add a cross server dungeon/group finder.
The idea is..with more power you get more challenge to use that power on. But there’s a cap otherwise it will be like WoW where it’s an endless gear grind. You don’t need more powerful gear to provide more challenge you just need variety and diversity.
We should have chainsaw and cut up the corpses of the Risen into tiny bits so Zhaitan can’t reuse the corpse again.
Sorry no to gear grind. If I wanna display my kitten I’d go play WoW. I’m tired of the “my gearpeen is THIS ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| LONG now” mentality. But of course character advancement is a big thing with these types of games. How do I make my character stronger? Maybe further advancement can be done thru other means such as additional skills. Maybe ascended skills that you can only earn after you beat a certain encounter (like the signet of capture system from GW1 but without the annoyance).

High mob density and high respawn rate is one of the annoyance. I don’t mind a challenge beating an encounter but once you beat that group of Risen then another immediately pops up to take it’s place and that is a frustrating experience. I mean we just killed that encounter and now it’s back ?
Basically you’re saying .. just let people become frustrated and quit the game and let the game slowly die ?
Lack of players/people quitting/becoming inactive is killing this game. It takes forever to get a group of people together to do dungeons. I rather work for my armor than just throw real money at it but it’s tempting.
Just an unfortunate side effects of not enough ppl playing in the maps. Everyone hates Orr due to it’s high mob density. Hardly anyone ever goes there. Most of 4 maps that comprises Orr are a ghost town. That’s why almost all of the WP in Orr are contested most of the time. I agree with Braindrops give more rewards/money for clearing up the WP on a daily basis. Give the players incentive to clean up the town. The only area that has remote good number of players in are the Cursed Shore and only due to ppl running the event circuit. Strait of Devastation and Strait of Malchor are pretty much ghost towns.

I like the name Bubbles on a dragon :P
As an engineer.. the elite skill is definitely kinda lackluster. I mean… you either summon a stationary cannon or a weak druid pet .. all for the cost of 30 skill points … i mean come on …. 30 skill points… make them at least worth it. I think the 30 SP elite skill for Engineers should be a vehicle the player can ride in and move and shoot at enemies.. like a mobile tank :P

Something like a zone daily quest. Maybe gives a gift bag that has random stuff in it from weapon skins to consumables or costumes or those mini-pets. It would definitely keep people interested and busy. I like that idea
The game isn’t dying. Just that the lower level zones are pretty empty except during prime time on weekends. A majority of the player population got to level 80 pretty fast and most are bored with the game, farming the lvl 75-80 zones (Orr or Strait of Devastation) for $$$, doing pvp full time or simply not interested in making ALTs leaving the lower level zones pretty empty.
I really like the idea of a Cross Realm server. Which is somewhat like what WoW did, so you can play dungeons with your friend from another realm (server) at the same time you can keep your realm score / realm pvp alive. One problem I am experiencing now is lack of people in various zones which makes some PvE encounter/events impossible to complete (example: Mount Maelstrom event which is impossible to do alone).
(edited by Twomix.5384)
A lot of people got to lvl 80 and got bored with the game and are on temporary break until the next content upgrade comes along. As you go higher in the game there aren’t a lot of variations. Plus you can get to 80 with this game for as little as 4-5 days. Plus everyone is probably doing PvP if nothing else.
I’m so horrible with hand-eye coordination games. My Super Mario Brothers skill has rusted too much.
Just to note 2000 gem cards are $25. If you see any vendor selling more than that.. It’s a scam. Glad Amazon has cleaned up those scams from the Amazon Marketplace.
