Hi all, I don’t know if it’s me getting older (31) or MMOs changing more and more but since I started playing mmos in 1998 I find it harder and harder to make friends in game. With a click of a button I can be teamed up with several strangers to complete our task then they disappear into the mists never to be seen again.

I would like to change that. I would like some people to add to my bare friends list to do fractals, dungeons, pvp, raid, share our accomplishments, ect. It would be great to log in and get a whisper asking to run something or vise versa (being able to call on someone I know to have some fun).

My best time in an mmo was in WoW, not because it was a great game but because I had a group of friends to play with.

I have a family so usually cannot play until reset time but usually play everyday. Add me to friends and hit me up anytime. I’d like to get to know some people and hopefully some lasting relationships!

I have now killed the Treasure Mushroom in Bloodstone Fen three times and it has not dropped any item I need for the Specialization Collections. Does this mushroom not count towards it or is it a random drop?

Looking for Invisible Herald’s Mushroom Spore. I have tried to get one in another map to see if this works but I cannot find anyone to help me.

I’m not looking for a training guild as I know all the fractals and such. Just a good, stress-free bunch to play with.

You can get the groups for the dailies easily within the first few hours after reset. If you really want to progress out of a tier, just keep doing these until they’re past your prl. To get the final handful of levels, you can repeat the Mai Trin fractal on Sundays.

Yes, right after reset seems to be the best time to get a group, however, there are two levels of most fractals in T3 a higher one and a lower one. Swampland for example is 56 and 67.

If swampland is the daily people just want to do 56; and rightful so as it’s easier, faster and you get the same reward. This is the flaw in gating progression. So while I do get my dailies done my personal level is not moving up.

I cannot see the T4 listings in LFG until my personal level is 70 (5 levels below the next teir according to the wiki). I have the AR to do the first few T4 fractals, just waiting on the mats to infuse my rings.

I am having an issue where I am stuck in the T3 fractal bracket. The issue being this bracket is dead (hardly any groups going on). T1 has tons of groups prime time, T2 has a lot of groups going on, and from what I hear, T4 also has a bunch of groups in LFG.

When groups do form up for the dailies, nearly 100% of the time they are for the lower level T3 fractals. I try to create my own groups, last night I posted in LFG for the Swamp fractal (which was the daily) level 67 and waited alone until I was booted. If a group does get started and we happen to wipe once, have the group leaves.

A few weeks ago I also posted in the “Looking For…” section of these forums looking for a guild for fractals, which didn’t turn up anything.

I am running out of ideas here. Any suggestions on how to raise my personal fractal level when I cannot get groups?

I have been playing this game on and off for a long while now, and am looking for a close knit guild to do the things I love: FOTM / Dungeons. I am starting to move into the higher fractals now and would rather have a solid group of laid back individuals rather than relying on PUGS.

I also have not done a few dungeon paths and would love to learn and run them (eg. Aetherblade).

My playtime is mostly 8pm EST – 10pm EST on weekdays and longer on weekends. I main a mesmer/chronomancer. I am hoping to find a solid group that gives me a reason to keep logging in everyday.

Would it be faster to just join a chest train in Silverwastes then open all bags with an appropriate level character?

I have Googled this topic but cannot find anything post 2015.

What are the methods for farming cloth scraps? Can I farm low level maps with my 80 main or do I have to farm on a low level character? Also, if I want cloth or linen for example do I have to open loot bags/chests on my main in a downleveled map or do I have to open them on a low level character?

Hello, as the title indicates I am looking for a mature small casual guild that does dungeons/fractals and is looking to raid in the expansion.

I have been playing casually on an off since release but doing 90% PvP so I am still new to the PvE aspect of the game. I have done some of the dungeon paths and fractals but not all. I know the classes I play (80 Necromancer, 80 Mesmer, 80 Engineer, 40 Elementalist) very well so the learning curve won’t be huge.

I would like smaller guild of close knit people so we can synergies well.

By mature and casual I mean I have a wife and two young children who come first so I cannot play for hours at a time but when I do am I treated in progression and defiantly making some lasting friendships. This is how I raided in other games so I know it can be done. Just a matter of meeting the right guild.

If I look like a decent fit feel free to pm me here or in game. I am usually on around 7 or 8pm EST.

I would love an invite as a student to learn most dungeons. My ID is Unhygienix.2834 (NA). I have refrained from running many dungeons because of the reason Sondergaard just posted; the fear of people being imptient, rude or belittling while trying to learn.

I am not sure what happened but I cannot log in anymore. I played just fine yesterday but now everytime I start up GW2 I get to the log in screen, click log in and get a message that says:

I tried deleting the bin folder in my GW2 folder and I have just deleted and res-installed GW2 entirely and still nothing.

Thanks for the advice. I play with swod/focus in main set and /sword /pistol in the other set. I use feedback, warden and temoral curtin as often as I can. However if i recal the last fight I did was two spinning golems and two assassins.

The assassins keep going invis then appear right on me. I keep moving but they hit so hard and not much I can do with all the other stuff going on, I think in that fight I was s/s mainly and basically was using sword block on cool down. I went down a lot.

I recently started playing again and have my first level 80 (mesmer)! As a mesmer I realize there are a lot of stratagies I need to learn such as portal placement. I have done a few dungeon paths already all with PuGs; and while my experiance has been pleasent I am looking for a guild that doesn’t mind teaching newbies dungeons.

I would like a tight knit guild so I can do to us to learn and grow with them. I mainly play in the evenings EST and on weekends.

I just started playing again and just got my first level 80 (mesmer)! I am wondering if a I should have made a different class as my first character. I am fine in groups and have learned a few dungeons but when it comes to soloing I find my damage/survivability is lacking.

I’m in full assassins with berserker weapons. I jumped into living story season 2 episode 1 (to start from the beginning) and have been getting destroyed. Should I be using Knights or soldiers gear to do these stories? It just seems I don’t yet know how to deal with the inquest groups with 2 assassins and a gernaider or the spinning golems as my clones/phantasm get destroyed.

Also for reference I am running a mantra build. Any advice?

I was just wondering if anyone has two of the same class and why?

The reason I am asking is a recent got my first 80 (Human Mesmer) and I want an Engineer alt. I am torn between Charr and Sylvari. I have looked them up and there are pros and cons to each, so I decided to play them and see which one I like better.

They are both level 20 now… I might end up just leveling both :/

Thanks for the replies guys! I do eventually plan on leveling both but if don’t hVe tons of time so I just want to enjoy the first experiance through then power through it a second time but have no idea when that will actually be.

I was thinking about ele to learn the game but understand it is a very hard class to pickup and do well with and everything I have read just isn’t for me.

Hey all, I recently (in the last week) came back to this game. I have never been able to get into it but with all the changes I am really starting to like it.

My question is choosing between a mesmer and necromancer. I tried to make one of each and hop into heart of the mists to try out some stuff but it seems to have changed since I last tried (over a year ago). The weapon and armor smiths no longer have pvp gear on to try out different weapon combinations. I saw the pvp setup at the top of the screen and I could change rings and the like but not weapons.

I have a level 16 mesmer right now but seems to hit like a wet noddle even on mobs lower then me. I buy new gear every 5 levels trying to stay upto par. Does the mesmer do more later on? It’s hard because I notice you no longer get trait points until level 30 which is an odd change. I like the idea of a mesmer and think portals and mass invis could really help a group out.

As for a necromancer, I really like the idea of conditions builds and wells, but hear they are not really wanted in pve and having so few defensive skills in my mind they seem weak in that respect.

What are your experiances with both classes? I plan on doing some pve (in the other mmos I always likes dungeons) and right now I jump into wvwvw and run with a zerg and have been enjoying that. Until I am a higher level I guess I don’t know what I will be doing.

NOTE I have NEVER done any of the live world or holiday events or fractals or any dungeons for that matter but would really like to try them.

I have played all the major MMOs so I kind of know how to play and what is going on (a bit) and have played a variety of classes to level 10-15. I am in the Eastern Time Zone and am looking for a small close guild or a large guild with a small clique willing to take me under their wing. Due to real life I may not be able to get on everyday but am on most days around 8pm EST.

I keep seeing people advertising speed runs through everything which I am sure if fine but right now I would like to take my time and actually play the content and not try and glitch/abuse mechanics to get things done.

I currently don’t have any characters anymore and am looking for a fresh start on any server. I haven’t played much so I don’t know what I will enjoying doing the most but in past MMOs I have been drawn to instanced dungeons.

Great guide! DreamyAbaddon went out of his way to help me and explained everything very well. Very informative and well written. As a new player to this game this helped me tremendously, reiterating everything DreamyAbaddon told me.

With the YouTube videos as added support this helps a lot with choosing a class and seeing a quick play style. All ready have some builds in mind, cannot wait to try them out!

Quick read helped me realize how to trait and gear making the game so much easier to understand and make the game fun rather than overwhelming.

Hello everyone I am getting ready to make a new character (I have dabbled in a few to get a feeling for the game – I am getting good at dodging)! I have it narrowed down to a Necromancer, Mesmer and to a lesser extent an Elementalist.

I will be playing solo the majority of the time, though I do have friend with a guardian I will be playing with from time to time but my schedule is wonky so assume I will be alone most of the time. Out of those classes listed which one(s) would be best to solo champions and solo roam in WvWvW?

And most importantly I have been playing around with the character builder and like some of Norn looks… now how much of a handicap will that be in WvWvW?

I rolling my first character too sometime this weekend (looking at a Thief cannot decided on human or Sylvari) send me a message and we can hook up when ever I am on. Hey guys, I have been playing GW2 on an off for a while, I just couldn’t get too into it due to time restraints and some other things, but now I am ready to sit down and have at it! I really like the look of medium leather, however when I look at the classes I get:

Engineer
Thief
Ranger

Oh boy :/. I mainly PvE and would like to stick with ONE character. I am looking to do dungeons and eventually work my way up to higher level fractals. Which one of these would give me less of a headache trying to find a group.

Reading these forums these 3 classes seem to be at the bottom of the barrel.

Edit: by less headaches which one will be easier to get into groups with.

Hello, I am looking for a small to medium guild that is more a group of friend then anything. I would prefer a smaller close knit guild rather then a large guild that just recruits to get its numbers up.

Friends keep you returning to the game and keep you logging on day after day. I had the most fun playing past mmos with friends. I don’t know anyone who plays gw2 so here I am. I also need the guild to be casual as I work full time and have a family so I don’t have a lot of time to play. I am very new to the game as I have tried to pick it up multiple times but have only ever made it to level 20 as I have never met anyone in game and had no reason to keep playing. This is kind of my last attempt.

And last thing is a weird thing to look for but it would be rad if the members where a mix of both boys and girls. I know that sounds strange but have noticed in the last if the guild is male dominate and there happen to be one or two girls the males drool over them and it just ends up with an unpleasant pre-teen drama.

I do not yet have a server so either replay here or shoot me a pm. I am going to create a mesmer or necromancer on a server to be determined by the guild that seems to fit me best. Thanks!

PS. I am willing to talk to recruiters so we can get a feel for each other and what not but don’t want to fill out an online application… I am playing a game not applying to a job.

EQ and WoW ruined MMOs for me. I played both for 5+ years because I had friends that played. I have no friends that play GW2 so I find myself rarely logging in. And this day in age the social aspect for most MMOs is gone and I find it hard to make friends in game.

But that’s just me.

I want to like this game I really do. But I cannot find a class I like! I have tried a bunch if classes and seem to not like them / delete them around level 10. I have managed to make it to level 41 on a necro but it seems clunky and is now flowing well with me.

I tend to play healing classes in MMOs and as this game has no trinity (which can be a good thing) I am trying to find a DPS class that flows. I hate to use WoW references because not all of you played WoW but I played every healing class, and the DPS classes I enjoyed where Death Knight and Warlock.

I thought necro would be right up there but so far I have been disappointed with the various builds I have tried. Any suggestions on which class to try next? I will try and stick with it past level 10 :/.

Hey all. I have been playing GW2 for a very short time now (level 16) I am loving this game this far but have two questions.

1) I notice when I have my inventory screen open I can click the button in the top right corner and tell it to deposit all collectables (neat!). However, it is only depositing the collectables in my first/primary bag. I have to manually right click the item and deposit it for all my other bags – is this working as intended?

2) I have tons of karma from doing the dailies but little money. Other than the NPC hearts that turn into vendors are there karma vendors that sell level appropriate weapons and armor anywhere?

Hey everyone. Let me start this by saying in most games I have ever played I am drawn to the necromancer/warlock archetypes (death and decay/a horde of minons/whilting down my opponent over time to deliver that death blow). Saying that, I just bought this game (and know very little about it other than what forums have said) and have interest in making a necromancer.

However, reading the forums I see that necromancers are in a really bad place right now. My main interests are about 80% PvE – Dungeons, Fractals, Soloing / 20% WvWvW. I know MMOs are a buff nerf roller-coaster but I have also read necromancers where kind of in the same position in GW1 with medium to low damage.

Would my quality of life just be better if I made a mesmer like everyone else in this game?

The negativity you’re hearing has to do with endgame performance compared to the other professions. The main theme is “we can’t do anything that another profession can’t do better.” I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with that, but I will say that right now Necro does have a niche and rather than being great at a few things, it’s good at many things. Keep experimenting!

Yeah I am not worried about this. I have played MMO’s before and one week/month/year one class is the bees knees the next it’s at the bottom of the barrel and visa versa.

Well now that that is settled just need to choose between Human and Sylvari!

I have been lurking these forums for a little bit and I just purchased this game. When I first started I could not decide which profession I wanted to play (between Necromancer, Mesmer and Elementalist). I just took an Ele then a Necro into PvP Mists to take a look at the abilities a level 80 would have. I loved what I saw with necro!

However, I have been reading A LOT of negativity towards necros. What makes them so bad? Am I going to be passed over trying to get into dungeon/fractals thus ruining my fun?

Edit: I should note that I noticed the staff was all AoE which in theory should be fun tagging in WvWvW but other weapon combos should be acceptable for single target?

And it LOOKs like they can bring enough support to be wanted?

I usually always play heavy armor / medium leather characters in other games and I think I have only made a female character once.

I just made a male sylvari elementalist but now I am wondering if females look better in light armor. I know it’s all personal preference but what do you guys think?
