There use to be a enemy in Guild Wars 1 that was a plant like creature that only existed in Krytan and Maguuma areas. Could they have been early concepts of Sylvari, or Modremoth’s early minions showing up in Guild Wars 1? Something that is interesting about them too is that they dropped an item called Abnormal Seed. We do not see them in Guild Wars 2, at least to my knowledge.

Remember the Ritualist and Paragon?

I dont see why Revenant’s couldn’t get Ritualist as an Elite spec. Give them access to Daggers, or Scepters, and give them access to minion skills like the Necromancer, and just make them rooted to the ground like the Necromancer’s Necrotic Wurm minion. Have the healing skill be a minion, call it Spirit of Preservation, and have it heal allies with a pulsing wave of light. There is just millions of different ways the Ritualist could be brought about in this game. If not Ritualist, I’m sure Guardian, ir if they have to really push it, Necromancers. However I believe they are just waiting for the right moment to release the spect anyways, as the class was really only specific to Cantha. So unless we get something Canthan related, I dont think it will become possible. I remember reading somewhere that Anet has no intention on releasing new classes, just new specializations.

Possibility of seeing Cantha in the future?

I dont think we will see Cantha, at least not for a long time. My reasoning? Look at the size of this expansion compared to the size of Cantha. The maguuma is so small, and theres only like 4 maps? Plus the raid one and the Guild Hall ones. I just dont think Gw2 can make something any bigger unless you want to wait, oh I dont know, about 10 years maybe?

Leagues are basically just gobs of mesmers spamming their invulns, evades, cleanses, and cc’s all powered by alacrity and revs that end up being very tanky due to a million dodges (about equal to the old s/d thief) plus blocks while doing insane damage.

Really glad they balanced the game before starting leagues

Seriously? Mesmers are your issue? I’ve had a crappier time dealing with the 20 stack poison/chill reaper spam, and the Tempest ele that spams lightning storms and heals and never being able to die. I hardly have an issue dealing with Chronotards.

Demons In GW2

In dimensions alien to the physical world, sentient entities scheme of ways to enter the realm of flesh, dreaming of the havoc they can wreak. Just as ghosts can defy death by returning to the land of the living, demons find ways into our world, where they feast on suffering, despair, and the vital energy of intelligent creatures.

Quote from the GW1 Wiki. Has there been any sightings of demons or even mentions of them in GW2 so far? I haven’t recalled at all, but I know not all demons were related to Abaddon in someway from GW1, so even with him gone there should still be some demons left in the world.

I don't understand traps?

in Guardian

Posted by: Valentine.6529

Valentine.6529

“How terrible” You’re basing this off the idea that it’s a trap alone, you have no idea how the trap will function at all.

Well as its a trap it will function like a trap. I don’t recall reading anything saying when a specialization uses a trap it will be completely different then other traps. This isn’t a trap type class, no one wanted traps on guardian and no one uses traps on thieves or rangers. Or very rarely. I focus on pve so this is a disappointment for me.

Well if we use Chronomancer as an example of someone uses wells I have to say its way different than a Necro Well. It gives certain buffs thats not avaliable to other classes like alacrity. It has clock hands that shift with each pulse of the well, and the wells all have an explosion radius at the end when the clock hand shifts fully. SO I would have to say wells are way different for a Chronomancer than say a Necromancer whose wells barely buff ally’s and barely debuff them too. I think that traps for these guardians will work in a different way to, much like the Chronomancer.

I mean it is definitely possible that we could end up going to Elona. As of right now the gate to Elona is closed off and many people from Elona became refuges in Divinity’s Reach, so there is definitely some story behind it so far. I too enjoyed Nightfall, the mix of darkness with the extreme brightness of the desert contrasted really well for some reason. However right now I think a lot of people want to see the return of Cantha as well.

We did indeed update the Halloween music in our last recording sessions, but only two of the pieces. We released the second on today on Soundcloud:

I thought about redoing the Clocktower, but since a lot of it is just sound effects stuff, and the timing is very specific to the length of the puzzle, I figured it was easier to leave it as is, at least for now.

During GW1 Halloween we had spooky screams and hollowing sounds as well as thunder, would be cool to bring back that eerie ambiance into GW2.

Mesmers were in a sense the Anti-Mage profession, as well as the complete Black Out profession. Disabling someone’s heal, or skill for 5+ seconds is hardly game breaking. Just roll twice and that’s about 5 seconds, your heal will be back. But its enough to create a viable shut down build.

Beneath Lion's Arch

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Valentine.6529

The elder dragon is what destroyed the old Lions Arch. That’s the LA you see in the bottom of the ocean. The way it used to look in GW1. I don’t know what she is looking for since the dragon is gone. Could be a relic left over from the dragon I suppose.

Not to get nit picky with what you just said, but as a Guild Wars 1 player, there is a dungeon beneath Lions Arch. And in GW2 terms, beneath Old Lions Arch. In Guild Wars 1, a massive earthquake, probably caused by Primordus, caused a fissure in an area outside of Lions Arch. You could enter the fissure and be in a dungeon called “Beneath Lions Arch.” The dungeon was this massive cathedral like structure beneath Lions Arch and was filled with destroyers, undead, and Dwarves/Asura. So in other words, there is something below old Lions Arch which is now sunk, and still beneath it could be that Dungeon from Guild Wars 1.

To Merge the Personal and Living Stories

in Living World

Posted by: Valentine.6529

Valentine.6529

Man, I respect the time you took to put this together, but I disagree with pretty much every suggestion you make.

I’m glad the current Living World content is not about dragons. I can’t think of a more boring MMO cliche than dragon-slaying. It’s done. I’m glad the setting has enough diversity of life and lore that we can engage other, more interesting, conflicts.

Yeah, there is some meta conflict between Personal Story and Living World, but the problem is the PS, not the LW. Living World is a great concept that deserves to stay and become the focus of the game moving forward. Personal Story was a neat idea that was poorly implemented and needs to accept the back seat for the duration of the ride. Personal story should never have been about slaying Zhaitan. That was short-sighted.

PS should have limited it’s scope to the area where the character starts their journey, with perhaps some brief forays out into the wider world. The Human PS should have been about Queen Jenna’s tenuous grasp of power in Divinity’s Reach. The Sylvari PS should have been about dealing with the Nightmare Court and Caithe’s ties to their leadership. The Norn PS should have been about… Norn stuff… ale or something… That way PS could have developed the NPCs and lore of the respective races and left Zhaitan for the first “dragon campaign” to kick off the start of the Living World content. That’s the fix it needs. That’s the fix that works.

What we do not need is any scheme that tries to cram the Living World into the Personal Story so that you can play all the content whenever you get around to it. That is not a Living World.

If you are terribly worried about the conflict between Personal Story and Living World, then focus on fixing Personal Story so that Living World can continue to be the amazing and unique experience that it is.

I have to disagree, have you played the first game at all? The storyline actually made sense, we weren’t fighting a character whose personality is boarderline mary sue, second the lore made characters feel like they were making a difference as they moved on. How much you want to bet that after we finish with the tower Kessex Hills will be back to normal, like nothing ever happened. Much like there other living storys. Living World was a great idea, I loved it, but nothing seems living when everything becomes temporary.

As for the actual story writing for this, its scatter brained. We cant pull connections and its been a year by now. Scarlet has more power, or just about that of any Elder Dragon which rivaled even the power of the Gods. Scarlet isn’t a God, she’s a plant, and a Mary Sue one at that.

I agree, from the first time I saw the bloody prince I was immediately impressed by the look of his armor. I always secretly hoped we’d be able to get it in game.

But with my luck it would probably end up being light armor only and then I wouldn’t be able to use it since I don’t have any light armor classes. At least with town clothes, all of my characters can wear it.

They could have made different variants. Like the executioner being Heavy or Medium Armor. Im not sure if town clothes follows on a different base than regular armor, but why cant in game armor actually have these cool designs on it. Heavy could have been the skin form of the Mad King Outfit or something.

The design on it has to be up there along with some of the best looking armor in the game.

I really, really think that male sylvari have a huge lack of long and elegant(?) hairstyles, so I decided to doodle some for fun.

I absolutely love the design you have for longer male hairstyles! This is exactly what I was talking about, and some of these styles can be shared by both genders.

Valentine.6529

In most cases, I personally agree with minimizing the line between male and female styles. In my opinion, males can wear flowers just as much as females can wear spikes. The styles we shipped with were a combination of retrofitting earlier sylvari art direction and creating styles to flesh out the race. If when we shipped we had males and females wear the same styles, we wouldn’t be as able to create varied silhouettes. Creating variety can be more important than hair equality when you have a limited amount of time to build a full race. At ship, of course. :}

Having said that, I do think as an artist there are some styles and concepts that work better on one gender over another. Just because a male can wear a flower, it doesn’t have to be the same design as the female. I believe in tailoring to characters, not being shackled to principles for principle’s sake.

I was soooo happy reading that. One of the reasons I chose Sylvari is because they didn’t necessarily have to follow gender norms that the other races have. I agree also on having a degree of variation among the same style depending on male or female would be cool. For instance, a long hairstyle for both genders could have a decorative flower on the side. For females it could be more of a Rose like design. While for males it could resemble Orchids. I dont know, just a thought I had on variations of designs. But now that the game has shipped you could perhaps minimize that line even more? ;D

As for the way faces are designed, I think people want one complete style like pretty so it fits in with the theme they are going for. If its a mix of both, then it gets harder for you to stick with the theme you wanted because now you have these other designs in on what you want. Also I think if something is one style its easier to make a design whole. For instance if I liked the way the eyes looked, and the lips, but absolutely hated the cheeks because it deviated away from pretty and went to creaturesque then it ruins the whole face for me. Because if I were to choose that face then the cheeks would be glaring back at me every time I played. Thats why I think having a mix of both pretty and creaturesque can sometimes hinder your customization because its two different themes into one. Not saying I hate the Sylvari faces, I think a lot of them are gorgeous. But having one type of theme or style for a face is a lot easier to customize.

If I had any talent in art I’d draw up something xD Wish you could share some concept ideas that you have! I’d love to know about some long hairstyle ideas for both male and female.

In the Sylvari intro CS there are a few artworks with unique hairstyles. This scene depicts two. The male on the far right and the female on the far left whose back is turned to us. I’d at least like to see the male one put in.

That hairstyle is what I was actually hoping would be in the game for Male Sylvari. I like the layered look of it, as well as the choppiness and how the hair color doesn’t seem to pull off of his skin color.

Anyone else have this problem?

in Sylvari

Posted by: Valentine.6529

Valentine.6529

I actually disagree with your first statement. Any character in a MMO can be outstanding, it all depends on personal preference. For instance, if I made a blonde human and every single armor I had matched with his/her appearance then that would be the idea of outstanding. However it seems in GW2 armor types are only fitted towards humans, for instance Medium Armor users for the Sylvari end up looking clunky and odd as the armor outfit looks wider on the Sylvari because its meant to be worn by a human.

What races do I believe have outstanding looks and creation? Easy, humans and female Norn. The reason for this is because they all have a wide variety of hair styles and faces to choose from.

Now I am not saying the Sylvari are ugly xD. My main is a Sylvari. All I was pointing out is that it seems to be difficult for me to get a certain look right. Like lets say if I wanted to go fall colors right? Well thats easy, just make my skin a tannish brown color and find a good hair color like orange or red to match it. Well no, that doesn’t work out right. As even the hair will pull off the brown from my skin and never actually keep the orange color that I wanted for the hair. Also various areas on the face will still be a bright green, rather than staying the rest of the skin color.

I agree with you on your last point however. And I have looked over that thread and I hope that they listen to the cry of longer hairstyles for both males and females. :O

Sooo the start of Guild Wars 2 I created a Sylvari, I liked them a lot and story wise they seemed a lot more interesting than humans (Since I played Guild Wars 1). But the one thing I cant stand about the Sylvari is the customization. For some reason I cant stick with a theme, or even remotely find something thats great or outstanding look wise. To me customizing a Sylvari is hard, because I not only have to worry about my hair and color, but also my skin seeing as all the Sylvari armor pick up on your skin tone. All in all, we could really use some more customization (Especially hair!).

There have been trends and themes, but one question makes me curious. I see a lot of folks mentioning what they’d like to see on sylvari, but that’s a different question than what they’d personally like for their own character.

Major disclaimer: no promises, no schedule, etc… But if you were daydreaming about what you personally want for your sylvari, what would it be? :} What would its presence feel like? What style? What materials?

Hi Kristen,

Please let me start by saying your artwork and designs for the Sylvari are fantastic. They are the most beautiful, inspiring race I’ve had the privilege of playing so far in an MMO.

As far as more options for my characters, I would definitely like longer hairstyles indeed. Elegant hairstyles perhaps with flowers peeking out here and there. I think a very fun idea would be to implement hair decorations (as currently none of the Sylvari styles has any that I can recall) in the form of natural pieces. For example, a headband or ponytail holder or barrette (sp?) holding up part of the long hair could be made of (color interchangeable at creation perhaps) ornately, delicately woven branches or vines, even perhaps with tiny glowing berries or gems or pearls accenting it.

Flowers could also be both small, woven in parts of a hairstyle or even a large centerpiece on the side of the head, etc. I think I just want more flowers in general! My two current Sylvari are both female. One is a guardian and has the short leafy hairstyle. It fits her perfectly. My elementalist, though, I find I’m wishing for something more elegant, delicate, long. Something exotic with branches, even perhaps done up in a mock bun of sorts, the leaves of her hair twisted up and held or supported by something, perhaps even a ‘half branch’ type head, with the bottom being branches and the top being leaves held up by it or spilling over.

I apologize if I’m being too specific now. The race is so lovely that I couldn’t help but generate my own ideas as well. TL;DR: More long hair, please!

Also, please forgive me as I was pressed for time and it’s been quite a while since I’ve drawn anything, but here are some doodles from me of female (or unisex) hairstyles I would love to see.

I would love it if those hairstyles were unisex, as in males can wear them as well. Especially the first one, and the purple colored one. The reason why I say this, is because Sylvari in general lack long hairstyles, and males tend to end up with short layered hairstyles that look generally the same. I’d love it if males were given longer hairstyles like the two, even if it gives off a ‘feminine’ appearance. The sylvari story wise dont seem to pay attention to gender, or gender roles, so I dont see a problem with a lot of the hairstyles to be unisex. I believe the Sylvari already have a few hairstyles that are unisex. Cant remember which ones off the top of my head. I personally would want the 1st one for my male Sylvari, the orange colored one. Also if the choice of the skin color didn’t bleed so much into the hair color, which I feel like that hinders on some of the choices of colors for hair when part of it is going to steal colors from your skin.

I know this isn’t what you were thinking of, but Fort Aspenwood had to be my favorite in the alliance type battles. It was fun and had multiple things you need to focus on. It also gave you personal rewards that you could use to make gold as well.

The Kurzick faction had such a kitten advantage on that map though.

That said, I’d love to see the game’s official pvp mode worked towards something like Fort Aspenwood, with a symmetrical map. Defend your keep, destroy your foes’ keep. Direct siege npc’s to follow specific pathways. Sort of like a League of Legends/DotA style game where you tell the minions where to go.

And yet for some reason the Luxons ended up winning a lot of the time, especially when Necro’s minion bombed the place, and Mesmer’s echoes Ray of Judgement on the wall protectors xD still it was a really pretty map with the stain glass cathedral looking castle.
