GW2 not made for sPvP

GW2 is a MMORPG.
It has the best PvP of any other MMORPG I’ve played,by far.
Comparing it with dedicated PvP games is not fair.
Unless they completely separate the PvP mode from the rest of the game we shouldn’t make this comparison, despite the push for Esports by Anet.

So you never played games like Guild Wars or Eve Online?

Hell I would put Ragnarok Online higher in terms of PvP and balance.

Can we have more CC in this game please

Varonth.5830

I agree about CC but you realize stab just got buffed recently ?

For one, not every class has the same access to stability.

Also due to how limited your actual build choices in terms of skills are (only 5 are semi-choices) you are even more limited.

Can we have dark nights? Please?

Snowblind fractal woods is how nights should be across the board.

Funnily enough, there was also less condition spam in GW1. Still GW1 had better condition clear.

Well in gw1 we also had hexes… which i would argue were quite hard to remove

Man do i miss them. They were so much more interesting then this condition crap we have now.

Also regen/degen had a very clear cap. Condition and degen was a pressure tool. Long lasting, defense unaffected damage that ticks at a maximum of 18 health per second.

With the average health being 500. Some for regen, which capped at 18 health per second aswell.

And yeah, hex spells were quite interesting:

What if utility skills could replace elites

Same problem as GW1, it would be nice if elite skills were more elite. many are just garbage and more are no better than a regular utility.

The GW2 elite should have been an Elite slot, which slightly alters a utility skill placed in it to an elite utility.

Every utility can be placed in that slot. Some might get a mechanical change (Glyph of lesser elemental becomes Glyph of greater elemental) or number adjustment.

Its literally ONLY because anet was nice enough to allow people to play for free that these complaints are surfacing…

Not really, instead of being honest and saying they were adding a free trial (be it a glorified one), they hyped it up as ‘free to play’, they brought the complaints upon themselves.

No they didnt hype it up as “free to play”, they very specifically choose the phrasing “play for free” for this exact purpose, to stress that it is still a buy to play game, and you CAN play for free to try it out

And not only that, but the official post from anet where they announced play for free also specifically says that the reason they are doing this is to let new players try the game so that if they like it enough they will BUY HEART OF THORNS. It says right in the official announcement that they intend players to buy the full game if they plan to stick around

This is like the most ridiculous argument I have ever read.

You are saying that every “free to play” game that exists can add as many pay to win features as they want, including stuff like permanent stat boosts, or a literal one time use button which will automatically count a match as a win, as long as they rename their model to “play for free”? Marketing must be like the easiest job ever.

this is the summery of the entire thread.

I want something for free that other people paid for. Because my free version isn’t as good as the paid version, I am going to make a thread and argue that I deserve to have something for free that others paid for because I am a a member of the entitlement generation.

I will use ANETs old TOS as my talking points that is no longer valid for free users while ignoring the fact that they have every right to change that TOS anytime they want.

I agreed to the current TOS so I don’t really have any case to make my point thanks.

I have the expac and I want sPvP players to have elite specs. I bet most people arguing for it do have the expac as well.

I’ve noticed everyone arguing here that its unfair on those not using HoT actually have HoT, is this just a case of complaints for complaints sake? If no one complaining here is actually a Core game owner (no HoT) then maybe there isn’t a big problem (to the point that no one experiencing the difference has complained, or HoT has been bought by most people and actually is very popular – either one kinda deflates the arguments).

Don’t complain on behalf of other people, they can do it themselves, I even asked earlier “if anyone here doesn’t have HoT could they make themselves known” and got zero response. There doesn’t seem to be any complaint from those people who actually don’t have HoT (I think this is because the only people complaining are those who have disliked the exp and are actually looking for any thread which makes the exp look bad – check the names and other threads bashing HoT).

So I am not allowed to complain when I get teammates without HoT who are not going to help me during PvP because they don’t stand a chance against elite specs?

“They don’t stand a chance against elite specs " that’s not true. If anything your friend don’t have the skill to play at the same level as you. Do not blame your friends low skill or lack thero on HOT. Would you expect a new lol player to be competitive against a silver gold or Plat players?? Same rules apply for gw2. Elite specs are not the problem. Skills are.

Were did I say friend?

Becoming personal huh?

Well, I wish ANet would implement a different kind of matchmaking. People like you who say everything is fine will be matched 100% of the time with players without HoT against players with HoT. According to you, you can still win.

Would take a day or two and you would start to complain about matchmaking matching you with “bad players”.

See Path of Exile. And their updates have alot more content than ANets.

Here is the the next update:

It includes something which is basically like elite specs for GW2. Free for everyone. Everything in that expansion will be free for everyone. Games can work without predatory business practices. And they can do good, or even better than those that fall back to the crappy business model as ANet does.

it’s not p2w its b2p and you are playing a limited version for free and are complaining, bcuz the rest of us that started before you had to buy the game to play it unlike you.

that being said the issue is that eletes were not what anet promised. ANET promised them to be builds or extensions of base specs that were supposed to offer diversity and not be stronger than base. Instead they were upgrades.

be lucky you don’t have to buy the game twice like we did.

What do you say about players like me, who have the expansion, and still complain that the elite specs are pay 2 win?

What is your argument for me?

Id say thats like we are into racing and both our cars are on the same level and you thing that a honda civic with the only modifications it has are stickers that say fast should be able to compete with our Nissan GTRs. We let the honda owner into our car club becasue its a community, Id say you try to play devils advocate just for the sake or arguing when you have no point.

No, that does not line up. sPvP was made with the intention to be played on an even playing field. They opened the game up for free players, but that shouldn’t change the definition of sPvP which still is that everyone is on an even powerlevel. Except they aren’t.

You are arguing that it is fine because the elite specs are part of an expansion.

Just look up my previous post to show how that “It’s an expansion” argument falls apart. Tell me, is everything I wrote in that previous post fine, because as I wrote there, it’s all part of an expansion?

Sadly the best way of showing players like you how incredible idiotic ANets move was requires ANet do change something. Just imagine that in the future you will only get paired into matches with your teammates all being free 2 play accounts and your enemies all having the expansion. You will not win. Not once.

To bring back your idiotic comparison. We are racing 5 vs. 5. You and me, and everyone on my team is driving one of those Nissan GTR. Everyone else on your team is driving their Honda. Have fun.

I am glad to announce the next GW2 expansion:

Guild Wars 2: War of the Mist

This new expansion has its focus on the PvP elements of Guild Wars 2. Highlights of the new expansion:

  • Elite gear
Elite gear will feature a new system, which will decrease different types of damage more efficiently
  • Elite weapon
These weapon will bring swapable alternative versions of the current weapon skills. They are all kinda the same skills renamed with an unexplicable 1000% damage modifier. But that’s totally not pay to win or unbalance as we made it part of the expansion, instead of the cash shop!
  • New commander upgrade
As for our WvW loving community, we increased the usefulness of your commander tag with new passive abilities as part of the expansion. Level up the new, and exclusive War Master mastery line to unlock stat boosting auras and the ultimate upgrade of becoming a walking waypoint! Totally fine, as it is part of the expansion.
  • New maps. Alot of new maps, featuring new mechanics from PvE like layline gliding or bouncing mushroom. These maps will be made available for everyone (though you still need the masteries to use the special mechanics)

That and more is coming in 2016 as part of the latest expansion for 44,99€. But that’s not all. We also offer a digital deluxe edition for 59.99€ which adds the exclusive Celestial Amulet for you to choose in sPvP.

What the op basically says: Uah, Uah Anet I play warrior, every other class is broken and skillless and passive but warrior passives and skills are balanced because I play it, ANET NERF PLS!!! NOW!!!

No what he says is that skills should have defined borders of what they do. He showed a reaper applying 6 (!) different conditions with a single ability.

And the next time he uses the same ability, not shown internal cooldowns will be up, so every time he uses that ability it will produce different results.

This is, by no means good design. This happens with conditions, but this also happens with power builds. An eviscerate that doesn’t crit is doing like 30% of a squishy target (~3k damage) vs. an eviscerate that does crit for ~11k which is literally a oneshot for certain classes isn’t good design.

And when watching that from an outside perspective, for example on twitch, you have even less idea what is going on with each and every skill used having a handful of different outcomes.

The warrior vs. warrior footage shows how GW2 would look like if every skill had clearly defined boundaries of what can happen if you use the ability. It is watchable, and you have at every point of the fight an idea of what can happen if a certain ability is used.

Even if they change things between now and the patch (for example based on valid feedback from the community after they have access to the full patchnotes), there is an easy way to prevent outcry from those that wanted change A instead of change B… and the solution is so easy and has been proofen to work for many other companies in similar situation, that it is sad that it would not work here:

Communicate with your community. Have the designer interact with the community and let him explain why the change was done differently or not at all. That works better than they might expect.

They already said, that they will be posted around 3 weeks before they implement the patch to make changes based on player feedback in the meantime.

Balance Goals for the Winter 2016 Update

in PvP

Posted by: Varonth.5830

Varonth.5830

In general, our goal for PvP is to be faster-paced with a higher-level of lethality than what we’re seeing in S1.

Please avoid the PvP “arms race.” Set benchmarks for what an offensive, defensive, or support build should be capable of and balance to those. How much burst or sustain damage is reasonable? How long can someone chain avoidance or how much up-time on it? How many might stacks or what up-time on fury or protection should a build have on its own? And most of all, how much of that is allowed when considered together: the best burst can’t have best CC and high avoidance; there have to be trade-offs. When you try to solely balance something relative to the current environment, you get have power creep.

Quoted for visibility.

It’s good to see some people actually understanding that there are deeper problems than unkillable bunkers.

If you just up damage the game becomes just worse not better. Sure if you up the damage high enough those half a second missed immunity frames will kill the bunker instead of just reducing his health by 66~75% (yeah literally saw bunker mesmers lose 3/4 of their health in a fraction of a second when immunity ran out).

At the same time, that damage explosion will cause DD vs. DD matches to be over in literally one ability. You know that fights that last less than a second aren’t fun to watch either right? What is fun to watch is fights that have up and downs and resolve after around 15~30s. It doesn’t have to resolve in with kills. Just the fight has to be over.

It just sounds like you want to make the one side of the extremes that sees less play to be even more extreme after the patch.

Bunkers, a consequence of the extreme burst

in PvP

Posted by: Varonth.5830

Varonth.5830

why mesmers use bunker builds over shatter chrono? The answer : *Too much damage flying around

So, you think that the solution to bunker builds…. is to make them more effective?

Well, good luck.

Where does he say that only DPS needs a nerf?

Bunker builds need nerfs. So does DPS builds. There are too many extremes.

Bunker vs. Bunker will never end. Burst vs. Burst can literally end in 1 ability. Both battles aren’t good for the game.

Everything has to be closer together. Bunker need to deal more damage and survive less. DPS needs to deal less damage but survive longer.

Could Anet finaly hire Community Managers who would communicate with community?

What a preposterous idea!

I guess their current community managers and developers would actually like to talk about what they plan for the future. But we all know, that the company policy doesn’t allow them to do so.

They have to work on that company policy like yesterday. It is so contrary to what players expect today with Kickstarter and open development projects to hide informations until the very last moment if possible.

Just look at how Grinding Gear Games is handling Path of Exile to get an idea about how to handle a community well. They constantly respond to feedback on both their forum and reddit. Not just community managers but everyone… from artist to coders who give really indepth insight into their code up to the producer and CEO of GGG.

Today they will launch the next league and content update. About 4 weeks ago they announced the big content update which follows after todays update in Q1 of 2016.

It gives informations about new content, new gameplay system etc…

Just look at this:
https://www.pathofexile.com/ascendancy

Or look at this:
https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1401804

They are really open about the development of their game. If something doesn’t work and gets changed or removed, they make sure the community knows why. And wow, that community is thankful for that. You never see posts regarding canceled features, because if they cancel something, they explain why.

What ANet has to do is take a good look at how other studios handle and interact with their players and change their company policy accordingly (which basically means get a new one).

How To Nerf Bunker Mesmer

Posted by: Varonth.5830

Alacrity strippable/corruptable like any other boon.

If it behaves like any other boon, it will be subject to increased boon duration aswell which would make matter much worse, as getting a boon strip onto a mesmer with his like 80% damage immunity uptime is going to be terrible.

Big balance updates vs small patches

in PvP

Posted by: Varonth.5830

Varonth.5830

Small changes aren’t going to change if a class has underlying mechanical problems.

Revenant just brings the same problem to the table as Thief had for 3 years now.
It’s funny that they made the same mistake twice. No cooldown abilities don’t work.

As of right now, those abilities on Revenant are on the same level as other classes have with cooldown. That was the cases with Thief aswell. And the result is things get spammed like there is no tomorrow. Like how much evade Rev has in Legendary Assassin, or the amount of condi pressure in Legendary Demon.

Without cooldowns the very mechanic of Revenant is broken, just like Thief initiative mechanic is broken. They will have to nerf the effectiveness on the Rev skills until they reach a point where they are so bad that they become as effective as a normal cooldown skill if used ~3 times in a row.

They have to change class mechanics if they don’t work, not try for years to make them work.

ESL Balance

7) The power creep is very, very real.
-Balance patches in the future should aim not to buff underpowered specs, but to tune what is too strong at the present time.

I can’t stress this enough. Ever since the legendary Dhuumfire patch of June 2013, “balancing” has consisted of adding layers upon layers of overpowered cheese on top of a generous helping of existing overpowered cheese. Anet needs to let go of the fallacy of buffing things to parity. If things continue as they are, by 2017 every class will only have one skill, the aptly named “I Win HurrDurr”, which is an instant-cast, unblockabe AoE at 1,800 range that does 10k damage. Cooldown 1 second, of course.

Just stop it ANet, pretty please.

I really want to see many things nerfed. But when they opened the door to raids in the state it is in right now, they closed the door of nerfing classes.

If they start to nerf classes, they may have to rework the raid, as the raid require a certain amount of damage to be cleared. Nerfing the damage of some classes might make the raid unclearable.

That is why I advocated long before raids became a thing, that enrage timers aren’t good design. Now the PvP part has to suffer the consequences of the PvE part having fights on a tight timer.

Make elites specs buyable with gold

Everyone who is honest with the game understands that Elite specs are pretty much pay to win.

Nobody of those that say GW2 is not pay to win would argue the same if it is not GW2. You know, as of right now, it looks like you have to buy Overwatch and they just said that it will include only the core heroes, and they might add hero packs later. They don’t know yet. Everyone is saying what a terrible idea that is. It is quite similar to GW2. But here it is suddenly ok?

The bigger problem is, that they try to get e-Sports going. Yet they just trying to flush down 400 grand down the toilet by having the current business model.

People will see the tournaments/finals on the front page. They will download the game. They will try pvp. They get destroyed by elite specs. They see elite specs being played almost exclusively by the tournament players. They look up how they can unlock them themself. They leave because they are not willing to upfront spend money for a game they know nothing about just to be able to play on a even level.

Totally agree.

But what im claiming is “when a skill is ok, you should change it to make another new one that will be both ok with spvp and pve. you should take that skill where is ok, and try modify it where its not”

More safe for everybody.
And easier to balance.

shortly, a double tooltip. one for spvp and one fove pve ( which include wvw ).

Now you change a weaponskill and someone dislikes the new feel of the full weapon (as changing a single skill changes the weapon as a whole as there are no swapable weapon skills). That person crafted ascended or worse a legendary weapon for the old weapon but now no longer wants to play with the new weapon.

There is no way ANet can win this in the current state of the game. There needs more wide reaching changes like weaponskills having alternatives which can be swapped like utilities.

Never expect any huge changes. For example the DH damage will never change a lot at this point.

Why you might ask…

Players are also playing those classes in PvE. And thanks to ascended gear they made a quite massive commitment towards a singular build. Changing a class will also change their PvE effectiveness, and might cause players to have invalidated ascended gear which took them weeks if not months to acquire as well as a lot of ingame or worse real money.

They just should make separate balance from spvp and pve.
If a PvE build is good enough and not overpower, and a PvP build instead is overpower/underpower in spvp, just modify spvp skills.

Its not that hard for em, and its easy for us all.

For an instance: Skill A deal too much dmg in spvp, but it’s ok in pve.

1) Skill A remain the same in pve
2) Skill A will be reworked in spvp

So, there will be no future issues about pve, and spvp could be fixed with a nerf/buff.

Also, they should declare a specific “role” or “build” for spvp, working on it.
If they are not able to follow spvp with fix ( maybe not good enough or just a too low team ), they should accept it and work towards classes chosing a single role for each of em, and working on it comparing it with other classes and their roles.

I would prefer a Class packet instead a “build your chara” for an spvp match.
Put limits and just work on balance and fun.

Ex: Chosing a thief for ranked will be “only s/d with there traits, sigils, runes, skills”… i i would appreciate it, cause it will bring balance.
Also limit, on ranked, 1x class

It will lower the choice for the single player, indeed.
But people who wants to play ranked spvp pretend balance and fun with it.

I think they don’t really care if they can only choose a class, like street fighter.

Sometimes a skill isn’t simply bad/good in PvP but require a mechanical change. In the more such cases exist the more sPvP would become it’s own game compared to the other parts of the game.

We can assume that there are more PvE players, so a change which might be good for PvP which in return would make the build unviable for PvE will result in a massive backlash from the PvE community.

Many of these problem would have been solved if exotic stayed as the highest possible stats, which could be acquired fairly easily. The commitment to a single build was much less than what we have now.

It worked fine for GW1. A build was nerfed in both PvE and PvP? Well changing your equipment for a new build was quite easy.

Elite spec purchases for spvp players

SPvP always had that one thing going on for it, which is no grind or paying required to be on an equal footing with everyone else. This already got slightly removed when they introduced plain better sigil which must be unlocked with gold.

Well, except you did have to pay for the game itself. That’s what has happened here. The game is now HoT, that is the current version of GW2, and everyone who bought it is on equal footing.

I do get what you’re saying, and I don’t think Anet communicates very well (as in, their communications to the public are often confusing, poorly worded, lacking detail, etc.). And it seems as if they don’t believe that there are people who don’t ever want to play their PvE (despite them launching their entire franchise with separate PvE and PvP game modes).

And yeah, it stings that those who only play PvP have to shell out 50.00 for the current version of the game. But at the same time, why should PvP players get access to something for free, that people in other game modes have to pay for? The way that this game is designed, this was going to be an issue no matter what.

What really needs to happen is more balancing to buff some of the weaker trait lines and nerf some others (not just the elite ones, either). But 1 month is not enough time to make sweeping game changes like that, and I doubt the meta has really settled yet.

It doesn’t matter anymore that you had to buy the game to gain access in the first place. It now is a F2P game. New players can download and start playing the game without buying anything. If they try PvP and see that there is absolutely no option for them to be on the same level as someone that payed money they will leave again.

Monetizing players using cosmetic microtransactions works fine. You don’t even have to be a behemoth like Valve. Just look at Path of Exile. They launched a full new chapter for free (bringing the game from 3 to 4 arcs), and all they sell is more tabs for your account chest and cosmetics.

So I don’t see why ANet shouldn’t be able to sell cosmetics only to PvP players.

You do realize devs work late hours for balance fixing

Are they? When will it be in game?

^

Especially new skills will not be designed working overtime.
But even critical balance problem often take weeks if not months to fix.

And yes I am asking for a competitive field. That why I play GW2 PvP in the first place. The PvP gameplay itself is okayish. But it always had the even playingfield thing going for it. That one got thrown out of the window, replaced with hilarious elite specs which are only available via real money.

Imagine Valve would announce tomorrow that they will add new heroes and items, but unlike before you have to buy them with real money. The internet would, rightfully so, explode with P2W claims. But for some inexplicable reason ANet gets a pass on this because they are also a MMO?

I am asking for free classes in the so called competitive PvP mode. Not in WvW, not in PvE. They strife to become am esport title. Do you believe that viewers watching a tournament or grand final for the first time, will go into the game test sPvP and will just dish out 40 (currency) to play with the elite specs they just saw on the stream?

No, they will deem it P2W and leave immediately as they will see mainly if not solely elite specs being played by the big guys, which aren’t available without dishing out a significant amount of money.

Yes, asking them to be free isn’t directly because I want them for free (I already own HoT anyway so I wouldn’t get anything out of this directly). I want the scene to grow, and that requires them to be free so new players aren’t scared away by a massive entry fee.

Elite spec purchases for spvp players

To be honest, elite specs should be free for anyone playing SPvP.

SPvP always had that one thing going on for it, which is no grind or paying required to be on an equal footing with everyone else. This already got slightly removed when they introduced plain better sigil which must be unlocked with gold.

The amount of gold required is fairly low.

If the gemstore is involved, even if you can convert Gold to Gems, those specs will be unreasonable expensive.

Making them free for SPvP use only is just going back to the roots. It’s not like GW2 doesn’t have other stuff to sell. Finishers, skins for players and the new mist champions can use skins aswell. There are ways to monitize players in GW2 without charging them for gameplay advantages.

And honestly, elite specs are just that: plain more power. They are often straight upgrades over their standard counterpart.

Warframe did the Dojo building in their game right:

http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Clan#Clan_Tier

As the table shows, you can have different sized clans based on the biggest barracks build in your Dojo. Depending on that, you can invite more people, but at the same time all rooms you can build will increase in cost by the same multiplicative factor that got applied to the maximum amount of players your clan can hold.

If you are a small 10 player clan you will pay the minimum for each room. If you build barracks for the next clansize you can have 30 players but you will also pay 3 times the amount for rooms.

Rooms have building time, so reducing the clansize just to build a single room from 1000 to 10 will require like a week or so to rebuild back to 1000 max players and in the meantime 990 of your players will be without access to the clan or its dojo (which is required for research of new items).

As a member of a sub 10 player clan in that game, I have access to a massive dojo with every relevant research facility, tradings posts etc.
And we already have enough materials to build decorations and decorative room.

A similar system should be used in GW2.

As a player who bought HoT I am all for giving free players full access to all elite specialisation in PvP.

They made a huge step forward by making the game free 2 play. Now they try to push the games PvP aspect further with the 400k pricepool on pvp leagues.

And then they add new stuff for classes in the form of elite specialisation, some of them being plain upgrades and ask for more than 40€ to unlock them. No way of getting them by just playing PvP. This is the defintion of Pay to win. You can straight up buy power with real money, which in unavailable to those not paying money. Sure they don’t have to open that content, but you might aswell burn that 400k pricepool as a marketing stunt. That might have a better effect than showing more people GW2 pvp and then tell them: “Oh these really cool classes? Yeah, you can only get them by paying real money.”

Even if they get balanced at some point, sidegrades are still required to play PvP to its fullest. It’s like a game like LoL hiding some champions behind a paywall without a price for ingame currency. The outcry in their community would be massive… hell in any gaming community.

But in GW2 some just defend it by saying: “It’s an expansion what do you expect?”

Answer: I expect that anyone I fight has the same opportunity to use the same tools I have at my disposal without having to buy them with real money. I don’t want to fight enemies which are at an disadvantage just because I decided to buy this thing.

Joel, maybe you could do a check for the skill which has auto usage enabled to be the skill used with LMB, instead of just using LMB for 1.

We can already switch the auto-used skill with Ctrl + RMB on the desired skill.

Long story short: they are very aware about the issue and are also annoyed by it, but they haven’t been able to fix it or change it because they used a third party software that’s no longer supported, and no one there was able or had chances to learn how stuff works in order to be able to fix it.

This is correct. It would take substantial time to fix and it’s not a priority for the company right now.

Sorry, I wish search worked better too.

If your forum software really isn’t updated anymore, you as a web developer should know that you should switch to another one ASAP.

Outdated software, even something like a scripted forum, can have glarring security holes. If it isn’t a company focus, it should be. This forum handles user data… it should always be top priority to have it up to date.

Willing to swap BOTH skyhammer and spirit watch for a single raid on the capricorn

capricorn actually had everything bad for PVP in it,
1. a cannon
2. NPCs
3. it went one step further and threw in mandatory water combat.

Anet need to learn to make simple maps,
theres a reason Forest and Foefire are picked by 7 out of 8 players every game,
no gimmicky fall damage, no cannons, the NPCs are merely objectives to cap.
just a bunch of capture points, simple.

That Forest is even allowed in tournaments is quite funny thou. It’s asymetrical and and quite imbalanced on that. Svanir is a much tougher fight than Chieftain.

In a game where it is “first shot wins”, that game has no skill at all.

Uhm… pedantic, so almost all the FPS Esport games should be considered no skill.

In fact, if people can kill another one in less than 10s, it should be no skill too, right?

In GW2: A thief or a Mesmer (Pre nerf) stays hidden and when someone shows up they initiate a well practiced a well trained face plant on the keyboard and !!! WHACK !!! your oponent is dead. That is no skill.

It seems to me what you’re opposed is bursts from stealth, which I wholeheartedly agree. However, that’s not the fault of Power meta. Nerf the stealth bursts, not Power meta.

If two players run into each other and fight for 60s without anyone dying, that’s pretty stale. Imagine two heroes in League of Legends fighting for 60s without dying, people gonna switch off the stream.

Time to kill for a 1v1 should be max 60s. For a 2v1 should be max 30s. For a 3v1 should be max 10s (basically pops all the invul/dodges and die instantly after that). Sustain for all classes need to be nerfed.

Sustain shouldn’t be nerfed alot. The problem is that everything is just in extremes. If two bunker builds fight each other, they will fight forever. That fight will not be won by anyone. The other side of the extremes is two burst builds. It’s over in literally one ability. Whoever hits with his first ability won. Even if the target isn’t down just yet, he is so far behind and probably stunned/blinden/immobilized/all of them… that he cannot catch up and get back into the fight.

The extremes in this game have to become more moderate. A bunker should survive less but also deal more damage. A damage dealer should survive much more, but deal less damage.

30% less/more in both ranges. Suddenly a 10k burst from one power dd vs. another power dd becomes a 4k burst. That will still hurt alot, but it gives you an opportunity to fight back.

On the same time 30% less defense on the bunkers means that bunker vs. power will remain practically the same as it is right now, while bunker vs. bunker suddenly shift towards 60% more incomming damage from enemy bunker builds which may cause those fights to actually end at some point.

Dervish cannot ever return in it’s GW1 form in GW2. It is impossible to fit the class into the lore, as classes are race independent. Lorewise there would be no way to incorporate dervishes into the Charr race.

Dervishes are basically zealots of the human gods. They will defend their faith and believe beyond anything. Charr are the exact opposite. They have no religions and they see the human gods not like humans see them. For Charr they are just powerful beings that should be brought down if they pose a threat towards the charr empire. As of now, as there is no trace of the human gods in tyria, they have no intention of killing them. They wouldn’t be indoctrinated by their primus during their time in the fahrar to ever develop the zealotic faith needed to become a Dervish.

Did I miss a recent update to the game which made it so that any given Thief cannot steal or activate weapon skills while being revealed? Because that’s your direct comparison.

Also the actual thief mechanic is initiative. It is also the reason thief is necessary in any team and lacking for 1v1 fight. A initiative rework could do wonders to the thief in any gamemode.

put blc keys into repeatable reward tracks

Varonth.5830

I already said it in the other thread. Black Lion Keys are meant to be a mass used item, as the ration of ticket gain to ticket needed suggest. Even one per day require a massive time investment to get a single weaponskin. Don’t even consider getting a single set of matching weapons. That will take years… at a rate of 1 key per day. One key per week, while they might add many keys to the game, are split across hundred thousands of account. A hundred thousand scraps per week split over 400-thousand accounts means nothing. The average player will very likely never get something out of those 1 key per week thingy every is suggesting. And with the average player I mean something in the 98~99.5% range of all players participating in PvP. As of right now, if you disregard buying items with real money and only farm for yourself (not buying from the TP), it is easier to get a legendary… or a set of legendaries instead of a single high end Black Lion weapon skin. It’s that hilarious how bad the droprates are.

They really make the Black Lion Keys sound like a good change. But the reality is that you gain maybe 10 keys for your account. You most likely end up with a bunch of fairly useless boosters (especially for PvP only players), and a few scraps which you either throw away or permanently block a spot in your bank unless you buy more with real money.

Sorry there would be absolutely nothing wrong with having a single key in each reward tracks. The chests don’t give that much good loot. Not a weekly lockout. 1 key per reward track… it would still be basically impossible to get for example every black lion weapon that way. Hell it would still be near impossible to get all weapons from a single design line if it is just 1 key per track.

Keys are a mass product. You needed incredible amount of them to get anything meaningful, yet anet threats them as if they are precursors…

Damage is Way Too High

Varonth.5830

It’s really strange. You got people making threads about the bunker/sustain meta being out of control while others make threads about damage being too high.

I don’t understand this forum.

GW2 is a game of extremes. On one side we have the extreme tanky builds which are practically unkillable by 95% of the professions/builds. On the other side we have the damage extreme were if two of those clash they can die in a single hit. Literally… a zerker reaper vs. some other zerker low health class (Thief/Ele) can literally kill it in a single hit.

That’s why I think GW2 can never be an actual balanced game with a big PvP scene.

Sure it could be fixed, but at the current pace of balance updates and their unwillingness to make actual mechanical changes I don’t see it going anywhere in the next years.

Instead of new weapon types or old weapon types on new classes I would like to see some sort of swapable weaponskills. Like the #2 of a weapon can be 3 different skills, and you could mix and match the weaponskills to your liking.

Currently when a class runs a certain weapon, it is very likely just a single build which makes that weapon useful.

Damask

Varonth.5830

I know this has come up before and with the new raiding coming up is there any chance of making silk the same as other crafting dailies? All the other dailies are 50 units and silk is 100. Damask is the roadblock for all ascended crafting. Its 8 or 9 gold a day to build it up. I dont want Anet to just hand me ascended for free but maybe some other way of getting silk.

It’s not just Silk. The whole ascended crafting process needs a rework. There is no reliable way of farming any of the materials directly, as they are depending on drops. The low level items which are required are unfarmable by level 80 characters, so you are completely reliant on the randomness of silverwaste chestfarm.

Weapon crafting also has some weird components, like Iron and Soft Wood, which for no reason requires 4 logs per plank and Iron being 3 per Ingot instead of 2.

Then we have the problem that some weapons require alot more time than others, because they use the same cooldown for all parts.

And then there is the massiv difference in cost between different armor types.
A light armor set cost more than twice of a medium armor set in ascended materials. There is alot of things wrong with ascended crafting, but as many system which were introduced once and didn’t quite work out well, this ascended crafting system is left to collect dust. Instead we will probably get some other way to get ascended armor.

Fixing the Zerker meta

Gear stats shouldn’t have been a thing in the first place. That’s the only way you’ll get away from having a strict stat meta.

Making zerk unviable via content design or stat effects will just make some other set the most efficient, and nothing will change but the name.

Actually crit damage which was later renamed to Ferocity shouldn’t have been a thing.

The damage difference between a crit and a non-crit is extreme right now. On my zerker warrior I deal between 1200 and 3700 damage on the same mob depending on my crit and weapon damage roll. The difference is just way too massive. And that is mostly because of the multiplication modification from Ferocity.

How are you guys sticking to anyone in pvp? I can prepare a thanksgiving meal in between the second and third sword swings, and thats the one that applies our most reliable slow as this spec?

GS isn’t the best for PvP. You can make it work, but you’ll be very dependent on your secondary weapon set.

Other than that, nothing much changed. Necro’s are still horrible mobility wise; but instead of just being a bit tanky, we can now also brawl quite well in close range.

Greatsword has the same problem many weapons have. Blind spam completely removes it from the game. One blindspammer in the enemy team and that weapon becomes almost a non-factor. I guess at some point ANet realises that blind spam is a problem and throws in some diminishing returns.

Blind spam was the same way in GW1. Except it was courteous and gave you a 10% chance to actually hit your target. Downside was, it didn’t go away after one attack.

Anet has always had a penchant for hating on melee professions. Something about a risk/reward thing…I guess.

Well even in GW1 the best Blind Spams were Blinding Surge (which was an elite) and Blinding Flash. 6s and 8s cooldown… on the counterside we had condition removal on 2s cooldown in GW2, which was also half the energy cost of Blinding Surge and Blinding Flash (5 instead of 10 energy). In GW2 you cannot waste valuable condition removals on blind.

Why no AOE damage reduction for pets?

in Ranger

Posted by: Varonth.5830

Varonth.5830

The underlying system of combat is built around area attacks. This is why the majority of base weapon attacks strike multiple targets in the affected area, unlike other games which strike one target – the one you have selected. Our system makes things like positioning and facing far more important and engaging; this also means that the concept of ‘AoE’ is not as easy to distinguish and thus handle in different ways.

That said, we are currently looking at systemic ways to help with player pet and minion survivability.

Oh please don’t make minions even better damage sponges. It would be fine if AoE wasn’t capped but throwing a 40s well of corruption on a point and have literally 0 boons on players converted because tons of minions, pets and clones on the point are closer to the center of the AoE eating all the ticks is terrible. One of the strongest points of minions and pets is exactly that they eat up damage which could hurt players instead…

Sure give them AoE protection, but at the same time, increase the max target limit to 50+.

So ele nerfed enough?

in PvP

Posted by: Varonth.5830

Varonth.5830

whiners gonna whine…. Ele wasn’t THAT OP before the patch and now they are perfectly fine. Yes, it’s still very strong and one of the best roamers, but the strongest counter to them (necro), also got buffed pretty heavily in some aspects.

It’s very likely that we’ll see much more players taking earth over fire now, which will make the build pretty tanky, but one main problem was, that the D/D-ele had enough sustain AND damage, to eventually win almost any 1v1. Take enough dmg away, and you can add as much sustain as you will; the ele won’t simply win the 1v1’s anymore, but it will be a tie.

Tournaments added new rules which only purpose was to stop full or almost full ele teams from competing and you say “they weren’t that OP”? Speaking of being disillusioned…
