i know all of that sets, but is poor in engineer style or steampunk style

the problem is you already have an idea of what you want your character to look like in your head. and the game fails to deliver that which the options currently in game. Just like thieves want ninja outfits. And there isn’t enough robes for cloth wearers etc etc.

Even in spvp where its either 8v8 or 5v5, your biggest issues aside from cosmetics was you weren’t getting fair fights?

when we talk about modern automobiles we generally dont even mention the model-t even though it was the forefather of all modern consumer vehicles.

people talk about modern vehicles that people know and understand.

in a similar fashion when we talk about modern mmo games we generally just go straight to the 1000lb gorilla of wow.

why bring up the old ancient that only old timers remember?

we also dont compare features from other cars and call its a Mercedes clone. as if Mercedes invented bluetooth or all wheel drive. We all have an understanding that the market and demands evolve thus automobile companies evolve to please the market and what they come to expect.

so this also applies to mmos.

What are you on about? I specified support / hybrid classes (which is what teh classes in GW2 are hybrid, just very simplistic, very samey hybrids), that they are in a game with DPS, Tanks & Healers is irrelevant.

clearly he didnt play the games you mentioned and he wanted to use the “wow clone” phrase as if WoW somehow created the standard of gameplay that existed before it was ever even in development

I like the mailing system, it allows one to cross server trade. The mistake is no Cash on delivery system.

This game has the biggest bevvy of whiteknights for it, I swear.

AN are big boys, they don’t need you to roll in and say “It’s your fault you gave them your hard earned money trying to have fun and didn’t have any”.

Truthfully, I’m not mad that I gambled and lost. I’m mad that the odds were set so high. After 30-odd Black Lion chests with keys I bought and dozens of mad king chests, I got nothing at all. I thought the point of the halloween events was to have a good time, and I wanted to kick a little fun AN’s way for doing it.

My mistake was hoping I’d get anything fun out of it. There’s nothing fun about opening so many crates and boxes and getting nothing of value. Then crafting all those fangs and kitteny things I made to get a single “major sigil of night”. The mechanic itself was absolutely foolish.

I’ll put the analogy to something younger people can understand. Can you imagine Christmas being fun if the point was to open 40 presents, with only one in a million chances of getting anything but string? Oh, but at least you can knit your own sweater from the fuclkoads of refuse you got. Two hours of disappointment later, your family and friends say that if you give them all your string, you can open a few more things and get colored string. Now you can knit your own themed sweater, provided that you care enough, can knit, and don’t mind it coming out more like a glove that’s likely the wrong size.

All I wanted out of it was a little fun. It didn’t have to be this way.

I bought enough gems prior for about 15 keys, And thought id give it a shot to get some skins. I read threads about its bad drop rate, then just bought the costumes xD. dont really regret it, had bad luck with lottery in games before heart goes out for you people with 100+ and nothing to show for it.

i actually kinda like that its town clothes, makes for a quick swap and i can have it with me forever dont have to overwrite gear with transmutes. and i like that its account bound instead of soul bound so i can swap it around chars too. plus it make it very hard to tell what your fighting in wvw if every female light/heavy/medium all wore the witches outfit etc etc.

You are absolutely right and I should of mentioned that. There are times when ego’s get so inflated they think they can conquer objectives that they simply cannot and they bring everyone down with them….or turn people off.

I don’t think its bad at all for people to try to take an objective even if it cant be won.
Thats the nature of the game, nothings a fair fight. I much rather follow the leader leading us into skirmishes with the enemy then someone taking us from point to point to undefended or lightly defended objectives.

Those guilds that xferred to SoR from JQ or any other top tier server…facepalm.
They leaved JQ because of queue times, but now we are climbing to Tier 3…if we keep climbing then the queue times will be longer and guess what? they’ll leave the server and choose another one. And here they say: please welcome us! we will make the difference! Let this be our new home! What a joke.

actually ques would only get worse if MORE guilds transferred over on the climb back up… but you know, don’t have control over what other people do

Edit: i cant speak for every guild that transferred from JQ but am pretty sure we have no intention on being another T1 server. the problem is after you win a few fights people take their ball and go home. then theres nothing to do but capture things which is what leads to the big point difference when you stop coming back out to fight.

To be honest, I don’t think you do either. It’s not the range number in the skill description that determines the versatility. Unlike other professions, the Elementalist’s weapons aren’t more or less effective at different ranges. This may seem like a contadiction because other classes DO have a difference between ranged and melee weapons.

Take Static Field for example. At longer ranges, it’s a great snare/interrupt ability. At shorter ranges, it’s great at helping you escape combat. The versatility of the skill lies in the fact that it can do various things depending on the player’s creativity.

As for the daggers, they may require shorter ranges to deal their damage, but Elementalists are also extremely mobile. How, where and when you get into melee is for the player to decide. And when they do, they got a lot of ways they can actually fight the fight, making it hard to predict and counter their attacks.

Range has more to do with fighting style than with weapon effectiveness. The staff isn’t any less potent in melee than it is at range. Just different.

You’ve missed my point. It isn’t a pure “range” dilemma. Am not voicing a concern for daggers to be a viable long range alternative to staff. More so, dagger to just not be void if it cant be on its target 100% of the time. There are plenty of situations within the game where your in melee and then suddenly melee isn’t an option anymore. No not cause they kited away, not cause my gap closing skills are on CD. But when a melee fight becomes a range fight due to Player numbers/Boss mechanics. Being locked in a weapon set in combat leaves little room to adept in that scenario.

idk what versatility means to you, but in a context of a game. it means to me the ability to fluidly adept to any situation not just excelling at 1 given task. (dagger/melee : staff/aoe : scepter/burst)

I use weapon swap and engineer kits as an example because they offer room for diverse and customization for playstyles that the player controls. Where as with elementalist the weapons ARE the playstyle.

Most of the ele’s skills are AoE, what does that have to do with anything? I usually take on 4 mobs at the very least whether D/D or Staff and I can usually kite around 2-3 people. Most of the Ele’s CC is AoE so what is your point?

Because you keep failing to understand what “versatility” means. You believe gap closers on daggers means it can fight range. You believe staffs ability to CC means its can fight in melee. No having alot of different skills designed for the same end goal (dagger melee/ scepter mid / staff ground target aoe) isn’t being versatile. Daggers are great for closing the gap on range. Thats being good at staying in melee. How does dagger fair in a scenario when melee is no longer an option, that isn’t being versatile.

You have an engineer, let me give you an example.
you run 3 kits and pistol/whatever. the kits are bomb/grenades/flamethrower
pistol weapon set offers 900 range/cc/debuffs/attack skills
bombs offer a wide range of melee range attack/cc/debuffs/attack
grenades offer a wide range of long range attack/cc/debuff that also function well in melee
flamethrower offers a wide range of close combat attack/debuffs

or any other class in the game
Range weapon set 1
Melee weapon set 2

That’s versatility, and that’s the one thing elementalists are lacking. what we have instead is alot of skills to make us good at that given range set by weapon. thus my comments.

Each weapon set has skills in their 4 attunements to deal with such situations. No offence but have you actually looked at the skills?

If you’re using staff and they’re in melee range you can use burning retreat, plus numerous other CC skills to stop them from getting to you. The dagger has 3 gap closers (one being an immobilise) and 2 knockdowns plus chill and stun effects. SO even if you’re DD against range you can still counter and like wise if you’re staff against melee. Elementalists are very versatile.

We technically have more than other classes, 4 attunements, 20 skills, attunement swapping still counts as weapon swapping so in a way we get more out of sigils. Please carry on playing your ele, if you enjoy it why not?

If it sucks so much, what exactly do you enjoy about it? Or are you implying that you are a masochist?

Besides, you didn’t really name anything that sucks just for the ele as a class. Other classes have useless/broken traits, I have seen a lot of staff/gs mesmers so being stuck in a range can’t be underpowering and d/d build has enough catch-up skills anyway, other classes have funky animations also. I have mesmer and ele. The mesmer 2nd downed skill bug annoys me more than anything I ever experienced on my ele.

Does something have to be utterly devoid of flaws for someone to find enjoyment in something, does someone have to write something off as perfect before they can admit they enjoy it?
Its not about what other classes have just as bad, its about what other classes do better.

Nothing you can say. It all comes from personal experience. You can easily convince a player that his class sucks(ofc, cause that’d explain exactly why said player keeps failing at various tasks). But you can never convince a player that the class is ok, just the person behind it sucks.

I think the class as is sucks, plenty of traits are useless or broken. I personally think damage could be up’d a bit since we cant weapon swap your stuck in the classes weapon limitations to adept to different ranges. Animations can be sluggish.

Am not talking about strictly spvp or tpvp or wv3 or pve. but as a whole.

But i still log on and enjoy playing my elementalist. does that mean i must just suck at the game?

There is an open pvp server called WvWvW. It basically is a PvP server.

It has NOTHING to do with open world PvP. People claiming so haven’t got a clue of what open world PvP is.

your right, in open world pvp your just hoping to catch people off guard and in some 1v1 scenario.

The best way to play is not earth “ofcourse”… The best way to play is attunement dancing utilizing every single skill you have access to for maximum efficiency, any elementalist staying in one single attunement all the time is doing it wrong.

idk about you but I didn’t need to use all 20 skills to kill a single mob or the vast majority of just leveling. Just saying attunement dancing only really comes into play more promptly in dungeons and pvp.

whats constantly? if hes full arcane he can do this every 10 seconds. on your SS you said he has earth armor on at the same time. Earth armor is a utility skill or 10 points in earth traits it comes up on its own at 50% health.

and theres too many factors in the game for me to comment on 5 people and you didnt kill him.

even more so, if he somehow found a way to bypass the attunement CD, still doesnt mean he has access to all 20 skills at the same time and there still the CDs on the actual skills.

very easily if you have 15 points into arcane he gets the “bonuses of attunements linger for 5 secs.” if you have not switched attunements (aka none of them on cd) and swap between all 3 remaining ones (from whatever attunement you started on). You’ll have all 4 of those buff icons.

just means he swapped through all attunements and didnt cast anything xD
probably to spam buffs on allies.

The price of the weapons are driven by the supply and demand law. Its price keep risingbecause people can afford them at that price range. This is call infation.

If others can afford them and you cant, well, tough luck.

You think the high price part would make it legendary, yet making the weapons an option for most people as your title imply is legendary?

This is also why anet place the dr system in game. It is to prevent infation so the weapons wontbe 1000g by now. But i guessu are also one of those guys who complains about not getting enough gold because of dr?

O and please dont say gold sellers. Not many people can afford 400 usd to buy gold to get an ingame weapon.

TL:DR = People can pay 300g for the weapon now, they farm for it since most people cant pay 400usd for gold. Anet put DR in place stop people from farming so gold and prices don’t Inflate. But I guess you don’t make enough to get your legendary cause there is DR and you don’t buy gold.

I think Robert Hrouda, went with the prestige route but personally I think its more important in the longevity of the game more so then what you had to “go through”.
You want the Arah set? you farm arah. you play in arah Other people play in arah with you.

VS everyone just LFM easiest dungeon to clear lets just do that on repeat = I have access to all the dungeon sets.

Right now. Different armor skins, different stat arrangements are why people do some of the more difficult dungeons, we eliminate that. we practically eliminate the reason to do the dungeon itself.

Sorry, but I have friends from all over the world in different zones, we like to get together to play. I am sure many others do the same thing. Charging real $$$ to allow us to get together would be a ridiculous punishment/non incentive to play for those that want to arrange a time and server to play together.

if you like to get together and play. then why not just pick one server thats the best compromise for you and your friends. Even if you don’t Dungeons are still cross server Spvp is still cross server. Your only punished in the sense you cant hop into different WvWvW and be on the same side while being on different servers. And if thats what your doing then why be on different servers to begin with.

Furnace Light armor seems to be bugged in pricing.
As you can see the problem is the placement of the order of the items.

normally its.
Head
shoulders
chest
gloves
legs
boots
in descending order from top to bottom as well as matching the player equip list in H menu.

But as you can see in the screenshot the order is a bit jumbled and the prices reflect that.

Are you suited to play ele?

The questions are two-fold:
-first, is ‘too much’ effort required to play an ele well? There’s a number of examples of people playing an ele well. Also, the game is still new and we’re still working out bugs/strategies/etc. So no, eles don’t require ‘too much’ effort.

This probably stems from the Animations.

I cant overstate this enough, But skills like Lava Font, that takes far to long to build up and almost literally tells people don’t stand here before it starts to deal damage. Meteor showers random damage locations, Burning speeds blast radius makes it very hard to land in an open field due to the damage only being on the end location. Dragon’s Tooth 4 second animation. Churning Earth’s long cast time practically forces you to use lightning flash just so you can hit people that back pedal out of the radius. Eruption like lava font advertises players to GTFO before it even does damage.

I think thats the underlying issue with Elementalist atm. Ground targeting and our heavy reliance on it. Do we never land skills? no. But the effort taken to just get skills to land on half competent players then coming out with lesser then average damage is a problem.

Am not saying it should be instant, just faster then it is now. I get it people need some time to react. But as it is now Elementalist are penalized just for players, playing the game. AkA just moving, not dodging just moving.

Soldier stat’d items come from 3 sources.

1. WvW vender sells invader gear Power/Toughness/Vitality. Sells it in Karma for (blue/green and rare quality I believe) And in Exotic with Badges of Honor(from killing players)
2. Karma Priests in around Orr sell 3/4 pieces of Soldier stat’d items (helm/gloves/boots/chest I believe) for 42,000 karma each.
3. Curtain dungeons token sets come in soldier stat’d sets. Sorrow’s Embrace and Honor of the Waves are the two I know for sure.

Crest of the soldier, are upgrade components for armor and weapons as well.

The exception to work around our slow animations is to not use them ?
Our burst damage isn’t on par so our work around is to deal damage in condition damage.

These aren’t exceptions, this is ignoring the problem. I never mentioned once that the class doesn’t rely on combos nor should we not have too. I never said the class should be more streamlined nor it has too many buttons to press.

And yes those are present and ONLY anet can fix it. That’s my point.

As unfortunate it may be, it’s hard to dispute your statements, though the OP is trying to help, but advising CHANGE, not “L2P”.

There are small exceptions to your statements though. The D/D auramancer build deals a lot of damage, maybe not in one single skill but in consistent damage. Spikes of 3-4k is common for one firegrab. (one w/o crit and one w/ crit) It doesn’t rely much on the element specific traits, and is effective enough that an elite isnt mandatory for success. (not that it makes our elites worthy of being lackluster) For the time being, eles just have to choose from a few select premium builds to do well.

But now your delving into nothing I mentioned, Condition damage is fine, since its a constant. not per hit which hit per hit, we aren’t on par with alot of other classes, Condition and frontal AoE cones are fine cause you don’t have to rely on a slow animation to deal the damage. (cones are instant and as long as you keep it on target your fine and if you don’t you atleast deal damage for the time you did). I never meant that one should rely on elites for success.

Am just summing up some of the biggest complaints in the forum that cant be solved by just simply playing better. “Change the way you play” is just a nicer way to say “L2P”, since in both cases your doing something wrong. All in all cases what I touched on isn’t gonna solve itself simply by playing better or different.

Kiting may not be fair but it is your lifeline with sustaining. It may take you 20 minutes to kill a trash mob, but hey, no repair cost. And saving 5s is completely fine with me.

No that is not okay, no class should have to struggle to kill 1 trash mob.

If you still want to complain about the ele, go for it, but anyone who is a level 70+ ele will tell you the same thing, change how you play.

The problem with this forum isn’t just the whinning, its the answers too. Everything is just a L2P issue right?

Being the best Elementalist isn’t gonna make your damage on par with other classes hit per hit.
Being the best Elementalist isn’t gonna make your skill animate faster.
Being the best Elementalist isn’t gonna make your traits sync better with the class.
Being the best Elementalist isn’t gonna make your elites more worth wild

This is noticeably true and will agree, but i don’t know how well we compare on the holding down your target in comparison to other classes, i have 2 stuns and a root in my setup which considering the cool down timers, all function quite well in getting those stationary power hits, the biggest problem with this however is it raises the skill bar far higher then other classes i have played.

You missed both earthquakes and never landed a dragon’s tooth on anything but an illusion and downed players.

“skill” arguement aside poor design is poor design, in a game that promotes movement like this game does. a class where the majority of its burst dps/most of its dps is ground target and relies on targets to remain still is a silly concept with the way animation lengths are now.

Thats not to say elementalist are broken, underpowered, useless, unplayable. I enjoy my elementalist alot, but a problem with the class is a problem with the class, is that not what you asked for?

I think the biggest problem with Elementalist is the reliance on your targets to remain stationary, due to the insanely long animations. this is a problem in everything this game has to offer. PvE/PvP/WvW. Its really funny a game that prides itself on its fast pace real time combat, makes its squishy class rely on targets standing still to do a big portion of its burst damage. If it wasn’t for that I’d let the slightly lower then average dps slide.

But given our damage pay off isn’t up to par on effort. (Getting into the right attunement, getting the spell to land on target then hitting for less compared to other classes with less effort) is the problem for me.

But everyone finds a problem they dont like about any class.

1 male human and 1 female char, I use to tend to go either way, but lately I find myself playing males more.
With each passing MMO armor seems to be getting gender specific models. the problem for me is female armors show more and more skin, I have no problem with a half naked attractive woman. I just don’t like that representing me.

Though I will admit some armor models are just better on females due to their more slender body I guess.

Am looking for the asura weapon skins, but not through the culture weapon karma vendor, I know you can get alot of the culture weapon skins randomly thoughout the zones. Like the charr one in the 60-70 zone. Am wondering where I can find the peacemaker weapon skins.
