A lot of good and bad in every mmo out there. Sometimes I think of my own “perfect” mmo would be.

Guild Wars 2; world (hands down, its just the best)
EVE Online; crafting & economy, character customization and world PvP rules.
World of Warcraft; gameplay (close to Gw2 but skills not tied to weapons wins the deal, sorry)
Guild Wars 1 + expansions; difficulty (when playing without npc companions), skill hunting.

Perhaps this is the reason why people do not stop and try res you. They all running from projectile-evading hylek.

On serious note, I advice you not to care that much, just release and run back. Death happens.

Am I only one who dont mind missing out raids because I am in full Soldier’s Exotic gear even after playing three years on same character? Folks who claim that wearing top tier gear makes one more “skillful” than others and thus “worthy” of raids, I say; good for you. Keep grinding. Although having best gear indeed makes you worthy of raids and thus reap its rewards. I would suggest to break the illusion that Gear = Skill.

PS: Raids, like Fractals and Dungeons are just something I have no interest in. But for folks who like to work and update their gear, thumbs up.

VictorTroska.3725

Hello,

Just my own thoughts and feedback; HoT expansion price is too high. For me who mostly prefer play solo and adventure around Tyria HoT is not bringing much areas to explore compared to original game. In Guild Wars, expansions offered vast new lands to explore and adventure in and thus I had no doubt to purchase the product. Once Guild Wars 2 was announced I bought it as soon as it was avaliable and exploring and adventuring across so many lands was simply amazing. The best experience I ever had in mmo’s hands down.

Now I really have doubts about HoT. There seem to be too few areas and I wouldnt have big problem with fewer area expansion if price was right. I love Arena Net and I love Guild Wars and its world and community but I just cannot pay 45 euros for HoT. HoT brings a lot of new exciting features and specs but I have been paying my Warrior since day one and its the only character I have and love, so for me expansion does not really bring much, at least not as much as I got from Factions, Nightfall or EotN.

Thank you.

What made Gw2 epic experience was no gear skins or dungeons, nor even PvP. It was adventure across world zones. How quests work and jumping puzzles, exploration and big world bosses. All that got praised by everyone when Gw2 lauched. I have not been able to enjoy this game after I completed everything there is in the world, because running same dungeon for 100 times isnt my view of fun. I dont care about armor skins because I dont have time to pose afk in Lions Arch when I roam the lands and slay monsters. Please, for future. Create more lands, more epic areas, continue personal story or create new one. You have Elona and Cantha and there are plenty of room still on map to expand world. Do what Gw2 is known and praised for.

I would give some slack if Gw2 devs were running their first mmo, but they are not. Gw2 PvP was horrible from the start, it was abomination really. Casual playerbase hardly ever returned to PvP after trying it. I know, ALL of my friends and myself stopped and I was “last man standing” from 14 people who started Gw2 with me. You, devs, must have known that you cannot create PvP for hardcore players only. 8 vs 8 hot join. WHY? When game is “balanced” around 5 v 5, you throw 8 vs 8 hot join at launch for players who get their first impressions of Gw2 PvP and their first impression is zerg and oneshotting thieves!

What were you thinking Gw2 devs?! I kitten predicted this within month of launch that you can kiss goodbye to e-sports and popular PvP if you dont fix it asap. People laughed at me and now what happened? Pretty posts of “we do this and that, we listen you guys” is all pointless now. You can add 1000 features to your “PvP” and you have still same tiny minority playing it because damage is done and for old mmo vets who suppose to know how to run stuff, you guys did poor job at very beginning of the game when it really mattered.

For Solo qeue tournaments? I cannot tell you how often I’m teamed up with a guildless individual wearing the starter armor and using starter skills. The last one literally, not trolling, literally didn’t know they were in a tournament.

Please create a minimum rank of 10 (preferably 20) in order to create a stable and balanced playing field for all.

You can argue that it’s fair because anyone can get matched up with these people, but that’s inaccurate unless we’re talking about the long term. Hundreds if not thousands of matches would need to be played.

I’m tired of my kitten luck. Fix this ANET.

I love your topic, its like you know we (community) agree with you.

Well I am sorry but this game has barely any dedicated PvP players left and you want more restrictions for new players who want to try out PvP? Why dont we just all out kick, punch, curse and laugh at new players and put them in small corner where they can hang out with their own kind since we are so superior compared to them? That surely get more people to play PvP!

Sorry, dumb idea and I hope it will not happen. Oh and incase you didnt know. Solo Q does not matter, its improved version of Hotjoin which should have been like that since launch.

The change that would bring WvWers to SPvP

in PvP

Posted by: VictorTroska.3725

VictorTroska.3725

As an avid WvWer on Maguuma, I often get bugged as to why I don’t go into SPvP more frequently.

My answer: I don’t enjoy seeing the same builds repeatedly, I feel my character progression means nothing and most importantly — I feel myself pigeonholed when build crafting by limited armor choices.

I think by allowing players to sync their PvE char with their PvP char — so that armors and skins from the one side were coppied to the next — more people would come back to SPvP on a regular basis.

I don’t think most would even mind a price charge for the service, but if one thinks about it, it should allow better balance, it should make things more interesting and in reality, the grind for skins is quite similar in each mode, so it isn’t unfair to ‘Skinheads’ :P.

Anet, is this something you’ll work on or consider? For now, too many people think your premiere PvP mode is basic.

I dont know. If your suggestion was implemented into game right now. It would not excite me to play sPvP anyway to be honest. There are hundered things wrong about sPvP and after year I got my proof that things wont change.

It an achievement. You generally get achievements for achieving something.
There are many ways to get achievements points and some of them are repeatable so why dose it matter that there are a few you might not be able to get that others can? Achievements points don’t affect your ability in combat so it’s not going to unbalance anything.

You’d have a fair point if the great achievement here wasn’t rolling the right class.

Me, I’m all for hard content. But it needs to give all the classes a fair shake. We can’t balance solo content around guardians.

Yeah honestly some classes have a lot of an easier time doing these things than other classes. They say that all classes can do them, what they fail to mention is that some of them its a lot harder.

They honestly should have made this instance, removed the poorly designed dome, and then made it a spvp instance so that people can reroll a class and be 80 and do it.

lol, always been in game and now you two cry about it? Leveling on some classes is always easier than on others. Same goes about dungeons, PvP, and what not. This aint different from all of those aspects. Lawrd, some people over internet are more whiny than little kids.

in Thief

Posted by: VictorTroska.3725

VictorTroska.3725

Some classes have it easier to kill thieves. As warrior I let him blow all his cooldowns on me while avoiding them and blocking/stunning thief, after hes out I attack but rarely get a kill because thief will just run away when he knows he will die… supprise supprise.

As engineer it is so much easier. I am rifle engie, very tanky and using bombs, net turret and toolbox. She is level 52 atm but I have killed max level abyss/white clowns in WvWvW quite a lot. Only because I have 2 nets (gun + utility) I have 3rd net from turret and 4th net from supply box. Kite him around like never before, let him blow his cooldowns into smokebombs and whatnot. Drop supply on his shadow refuge and its gg. Also funny trick I have noticed is that when thief finally gets on you, take toolkit, slap him and apply 5 confusion and guy will kill himself attacking my gear shield. xD

I was supprised how easy is to kill thieves on my engi compared to warrior but I guess its the immobilize/knockback from rifle and confusion that really shines.

in Thief

Posted by: VictorTroska.3725

VictorTroska.3725

Stealth class is always hated in mmos because at start devs never get it right. Devs cant seem to grasp how powerful tool stealth is. When WoW were launched during vanilla I played thief and I could kill fully geared people, naked with starter dagger. One guy even made successful series about it and its still on Wcm.

When Gw2 launched stealth was horrible. People couldnt see who killed them only when thief was stomping them game showed thief. In WvWvW it was even worse. Few times I knew I was fighting thief because I could hear his attack sounds but I never managed to see them not even after they stomped me.

Both games had typical mmo flaws with thief/rogue class. Stealth and high burst damage combined. Which result in total mess. Which in result ended in hatered of stealth class.

Overall, I would fall back to old genre mmo if it proves to be exciting. At the moment I had to pick 1 Raid 1 Daily hub in WoW vs Gw2 Skypirates and Cutthroat Politics and soon to be Queens J. Since I dont care about dailies in WoW nor I raid because they implemented LFR (aka raid for monkies) I went though content within days of release
So this was example how good features like Living World actually made me want to play Gw2 again after 5 month break I may add. If EQ has something even better than yeah, I dont see why shouldnt I try that out.

Just to add one more thing before I had enough. Do devs want to place some system in game to make players have to log in or actually add some FUN things to make players want to log in.

This new Living World thing realy made me want to log in to game. I was very happy that they implemented Living World, its something new because it happens so often, you dont wait months for new stuff. That keeps me logging to game. So I have faith that Gw2 devs can create better system than dailies if they realy want to.

VictorTroska.3725

@VictorTroska, that’s a fine system and all, but…

Why implement something that allows players to not get on your game, when you want players to get on your game?

Indeed, dailies are most easiest hook to keep players logging to your game and it works there is no doubt in that. I havent missed single daily since I wanted Ascendant ring and amulet.

But real question is: Do players like it? To be forced to log in for reward instead of having other methods to reward players without having them to log in every day.

From personal experience sometimes I dont mind doing dailies, but then there are days when I just dont want to log in to Gw2, yet I know that if I wont, I will have to wait longer and longer to get something I wanted. So I force myself to log into game even though I realy, truly hate it, I still do it. Is it fun? No! Does it say to A-Net that I am active player that logs in every day and Gw2 has billion players? Yes, thats how Blizzard keeps high subs by placing golden carrot on stick and players keep logging to get it.

So like I said, its all up to devs. If they want this old, tested system that works into game then fine. But its not fun or innovative. Gw2 should be something new, something that has different stuff, different ways. “Not your old mmo”. If you understand what I am saying. If I wanted to play OLD mmo I would play WoW, its 100 times better to keep players hooked than Gw2, but I choose to play Gw2 atm because its different. But for how long until it falls into “usual mmo” pit if devs let it?

Galen Grey, sorry but thanks to dailies you do not play way you want to. Daily will tell you where you need to go and what to kill, it will tell you that you need to salvage x stuff and it will asks you to dodge 15 times. You dont play the game, game plays you. In the end game tells you that if you dont log in every day to do what game asks you to do, you can say goodbye for your item you really want to.

You simply think that you play game and daily finishes by itself, that is not the case. I have done dailies aswell and many times I have been forced to travel just to slay some stuff in area I wasnt planning to visit at all. So in a way, it is just like WoW quests, it tells you to do this and if you dont do that you wont get rewarded. Its sad that you havent played WoW because then you would understand that why daily is horrible idea for Gw2.

Like I said, Gw2 has other options to keep rewards on “needs 25 days” timer: Example:

Christy finally collected 250 crystals form events. She then created one infused one and with some other materials she discovered that:
Crafting X item and mending it by magical nonsence will take 5 days. Do you wish to continue [Yes] [No].

Christy then after 5 days, from which one day she didnt log in because RL issues, comes back and checks bank for item. It is done. Then she takes it to Armor smith and creates mold with that item.

She then needs X and Y and more infusion/melding/whatnot days to create rest of the pieces and it will take X days to combine them into Ascendent gloves armor. After 25 days, Christy created for herself A-armor, with time she choose to log in and farm mats and discover how to do it. Without NEED of logging in EVERY SINGLE DAY for 25 days.

Looks to me like you would have dropped the first guy if the second didn’t enter the fight. Good video.

Wrong. First guy would just stealth away and he would never catch him. 1st guy ONLY appeared later again because he saw that 2nd thief attacked warrior, so he was confy enough to come out of his kitten stealth and look like hero there. Without 2nd thief that 1st one would be running to his mother crying for warriors nerfs.

But overall, once again bad player is rewarded for bad play. Thief class ladies and gentelmen.

There is difference between a daily and a weekly. People just cant seem to go in and play the game in order to get their daily done, it will be no different in the case of a weekly. That means people will get the weekly done on day one, it will feel grindy because it will be to get it all done in 1 day (imagine killing 175 aquatic things or 7 champions or 350 mobs etc…) and then people will be unhappy because for 6 days they’re doing 0 progress towards their goal. On the other hand it would help people who cannot play everyday to keep up with those who can. There pros and cons to this.

People will be happy as they have CHOISE to do all in one day, or just small bunch every day. They can chose when they want to finish it and how many days they going to spend on it. Right now you have no choise but to log in every day just to finish dailies, you cant skip it, you have to do it.

Overall, I am not sure why are you defending daily system, its your right of course but go play WoW and see that everything fun or cool item you wish you had will have stamp of “Must log in for 20 days every day to get it, have a nice day.” If Gw2 is going that direction I am really dissapointed.

There are many quotes from users and not just from Gw2 but also from other mmos who have taken this concept of dailies into game that many users log into game just to complete dailies and then log off. That is whole point of dailies to keep user wanting to complete them because when you do x number of them every day you will have access to some fancy item that is spesificly set there to look tasty enough for you to log in every day.

Dailies are made to slow down your acquisition of certain powerful items otherwise why not set currency which you get from dailies available by doing multiple times in single day? Ever thought why not just do dailies 10 times a day and buy yourself stuff? Because it would kill whole core mechanic and reason behind dailies, it is to make sure, guy logs in every day to do that daily for x ammount of days for item he wants. Person is then punished by this system if he does not log in to do his daily like game wants you to by making him wait one extra day for every day he missed his daily.

Gw2 has so many better ways to overcome this mmo “daily” plague but devs chose to take tested, working, and most boring way to reward you for playing game. I thought Gw2 supposed to be next step in mmo evolution, yet why does it keep placing these old features into game.

I completely disagree. When you miss a day in a daily you dont get to wait an extra day any more then any other currency.

I dont think you understand what I am trying to say.

Let me put it simple:

Epic Sword of Countless Hours: Cost: 240.000 Karma
Epic Sword of Countless Days: Cost: 20 Laurels

Billy and Bob wants them and Billy works for Countless Hours sword. He farms 240.000 Karma for many hours but in 2 or 3 days (Depends how dedicated he is) he gets it.

Bob always wanted Countless Days sword, he logs in, does Dailies, gets 1 single Laurel. There is NO WAY to get 2 or 3, maybe 4… just SINGLE Laurel a day. So while Billy is playing with his sword, Bob playing World of Warcraft and logging to Gw2 just to finish dailiy. In 20 DAYS, Bob gets his sword.

Lets say Billy got sick during first day or farming Karma. After 4 days he gets well and logs into game and completes his Karma farm. Without having to log in every day he was sick.

Now Bob got sick and he missed also 4 days. But because he didnt complete his dailies for 4 days, he now have to way 24 days to get his sword.

Far to common to be impressed by them. I know it sounds silly but I have seen a lot of legendaries around and it does not really feel “legendary”, more like, cool stuff must been quite a grind. But my consept of legendary weapon is thakittens hard to get not just because grind or gold cost is high but you also need to overcome some really hard challenges that really put you as player on real test how well you can play the game. But this never happens in todays gaming since people seem to think that they are entitled to get everything because they paid for game, thus if you wish to have legendary, you just need to grind instead of show off skill.

PS: Just example: Starcraft 2, top 10 best players in the world get legenderies. Yes, it should be that hard.

Concept of dailies is horrible because not all people realize or want to realize that they do not need to complete dailies in order to enjoy game. Thus starting something like: Game plays you and not you playing game. Quite a lot of people feel like they must complete dailies and it even shows on screen just to remind you of that task. It is lazy developers concept to add high end rewards into game and making sure that players do not get em quickly.

Thats not the case at all, if dailies alone where something that compels people to complete them we’d see these issues discussed when dailies didnt reward laurels which could be used to acquire ascended gear.

No the issue is most definitely because people feel dailies are artificially slowing them down from getting the rewards as quickly as possible even though I am a strong believe thakittens actually quite the opposite.

Seen plenty of RPers on Tarnished Coast. But compared to World of Warcraft Argent Dawn – EU server. TC is mere tiny drop in the ocean when it comes to how much RP is around.
