Suggestion for Roleplaying

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I wish this game had chairs we could interact with. We don’t have a proper setting for lots of RP situations, including the ritual visit to the tavern where characters come to seek adventure buddies, or gossip about who slept with Faren. Seriously, we need proper chairs to sit on. The bars we have are overcrowded. We want to sit down!

We could have chairs as interactive objects, that players could use differently depending on their size (because there’s no way a charr could use a tiny chair the same way an asura would) or even their social background (because I don’t see a human noble sitting like a street rat)

I think ArenaNet could do something awesome, considering how the raptor mount acts when the player doesn’t do anything on it. It could be anything, like a simple leg shaking, or a character sliding from the chair at some point…

Just imagine it, a charr grabbing a human chair by the backrest, turning it around to sit on it so its tail doesn’t get squashed. Or an Asura climbing on a norn bench, while a Norn may look at a tiny chair and dismiss it with an air of contempt, or sit on the ground (using the tiny chair as an armrest)

If we had chairs we could sit on, role play would be a lot less awkward. We don’t all aspire to be standing all day like pillar counters, or consortium slaves :’(

*Celine- When do asura reach adulthood?
*Gnomex- What age are most asura during college?

I also would like to know how old are the Asuras when they start college, and while we’re at it, how old are the young asuras when they enter pre-college school (Splorge Metamystics Lab)

I’ve seen many roleplayers put in their backgrounds that their asura characters started college at age six, but since there are only two young looking asuras presented as students there (near PR-1000 Prototype Golem in the College of Dynamics) I doubt this can be right.

When discussing the ‘whitening’ of Kryta, three things come to mind.

-snip-

What you say is very interesting. Personally, I just blame the lack of diversity among dark skinned NPCs in comparison to those light-skinned NPCs who are declined with different hair colors. Any NPC with a random skin appears more often to be white. No wonder why.
I believe that if it wasn’t for this amount of white human PNCs there would never have been a notion of whitening in GW2. Immigration in Kryta doesn’t sorely comes from Ascalon, and krytan Deborah is not white.

PLEASE ArenaNet, put some charismatic krytan character in Season 3 !

As for the Charr in Balthazar outfit… haha, I can just see how kittened some humans can react
… and how other Charrs would too >)

Someone told me there was a dynamic event during the GW2 bêta involving the repression of a norn performing necromancy… Never found evidence it actualy existed :/

Concerning Humans, I heard NPCs express their dislike of necromancers a few times in DR. You have to spend some time in the Grenth Low Road to hear some of their dialogues.

Bonus:
During a Personal Story mission a lionguard said:

Trahearne, the necromancer? Comes through here every few months on his way to Orr. That guy creeps me out.

Thank you for your answers and warnings about inconsistencies. It is right that nobility is not a subject well fleshed out. But I suppose we can speculate a lot on what has been said during that interview.

I couldn’t find a french translation of this interview so I tried to translate it myself, hoping to help “future generetions” wondering if nobility has any use nowadays, apart from rubbing their money in my face

Vilenia.3081

A good friend of mine asked me what is the use of nobles in krytan society, and although we know what Kasmeer Meade told us poor players about the royal court and how to become a noble, we don’t see clearly what is the use of nobles, since the laws are made by the crowned ruler and the ministry, and the army is made of every castes. I suspect the nobility had a use more tangible a few centuries ago, but I can’t find any reference anywhere to help us.

Got to see the skritt meeting again a few minutes ago :

“Okay, okay. Let’s begin. Who has a tale to share with us ?”

“Oh! I do! I heard skritt are building a ship, way out in the wastes.”

“Hold on. When were you out in the wastes?”

“I brought ale to a soldier. She told me they found a big scratch out west, where our people are building a ship. She said the scratch has a storm wizard who will call down a flood so they can all sail away.”

“This is big, if it’s true. Thank you. If there are no more tales, then let us adjourn for now. Be safe.”

Skritt live in mostly-isolated communities. The skritt of Lion’s Arch has little to no interaction with (potentially even knowledge of) the skritt of Silverwastes. So they’re not related activities.

They have knowledge, at least. There’s a meeting on the beach every night where they discuss the ship building. Apparently one of the LA skritt ran an errand and was told by a Pact member.

Where it say Warrior not magic user?

Vilenia.3081

It seems to me lore neither says that nor the contrary. It says the entirety of Tyria is infused with magic. Warriors are part of it, but they don’t take the time to study and train in that field like your more common magic user.

There are texts in Orr wich can help explain how warriors may be magic users (much like everyone in fact) : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Orrian_History_Scrolls#Everyday_Magic_in_Orr_and_Signets

But hey maybe I’m wrong. I’m still hoping to get a non-debatable answer, whether it confirms my personal interpretation or not.

Well, I must be the only person to have cheered when Sieran died. A very emotional moment, indeed. I joined the Order of Whispers and the Vigils with 6 characters just so I could avoid missions with Sieran. If Forgal and Tybalt had to share her fate, so be it.

Why cheer when she died? I’m curious.

To put it simply, I found her attitude and personality to be irritating. Maybe we could just say she was over-the-top enthusiastic. When I found out how annoying Sieran was, I already had two characters who signed up in the Priory. So I had to complete missions with her not once but twice. I realy disliked doing Personnal Story missions at the time. Finishing those was a liberation.
… and than I got attacked several times in Whisperhill Bogs, so the poor girl kept annoying me after her tragic demise x)

And I’d invite you to walk around DR and count the amount of non-white NPCs you see versus the number of white ones, despite Krytans supposedly being in the vast majority.

Yes, a lot of them are fair, but common NPCs are not the worse TT
And they aren’t proof that krytan people got whiter over time. The “Dead Sister” missions in the human personal story show us a NPC supposed to look like its sibling based on their ethnicity. Therefore it’s proof to me that humans with krytan roots aren’t white. If there realy was a whitening phenomenon, the krytan version of Deborah would have been whiter. It’s not like Kryta had three different nations like Elona or Cantha did :/

But that doesn’t explain why so much of Kryta is pale skinned.

It’s clear that they made an effort to make Krytans look different than humans from other regions. Ascalonians tend to have lighter hair and Canthans/Elonians tend to have different skin colors. But Krytans in general are both pale-skinned and dark-haired instead of tan-skinned and dark-haired. And even those who are both dark-skinned and dark-haired appear very European (Queen Jennah, for instance).

From GW1 to GW2, the average Krytan in Divinity’s Reach has much paler skin.

Well, I like playing the filling-the-gap game too. Ascalonians are… kind of special. Their attitude toward Kryta is a little different from what the elonians (or canthans) seem to express regarding living there. I like to think they arrived in Kryta and started to breed like rabbits, or/and that they were less inclined than their krytan neighbours to join the Lion Guard or the Seraphs during the first years they settled. The Centaurs are killing humans since centuries. It may have affected the genetic pool. Therefore, and maybe with the tsunami’s help, krytan people declined faster than them. This seems to me more likely than a white dominant gene.

But realy, I just think the character designers are affected by so-called aestetic choices, and that they made more light-skinned NPCs than dark-skinned ones. And you know how people tend to always draw the same kind of characters without thinking of it.
Most players do the same when they create their avatars. Some of them don’t know anything about Guild Wars’ lore and some others just don’t give a kitten if their character from canthan descent looks nothing like a canthan guy.
Sometimes, NPCs do change from light to dark and reverse. There’s an old lady in the Ascalon Settlement who has been switching her skin color back and forth since 2012, like there are NPCs who get a new race appearance every now and then.
Who knows ? Maybe this is just due to them wanting to have Human NPCs with different hair color, and so multiplying the number of light-skinned humans. They probably didn’t have the time to create a nice diverity amoung the common NPCs before the game launched. They also didn’t add special character designs for the ghosts in the first halloween release (If you take that seriously, it means that krytan people were white before Guild Wars Prophecies, and that modern Humans dress like 500 years ago)

If this is intentional, homever, it could be ArenaNet wanting to connect the lore to what happened to the brazilian genetic pool. But I don’t see how ascalonians fit in this analogy, beside being white. That would be a very poor lore development.

There are a few things that anoy me about the lore:

- Not knowing where is the Ash Legion’s homeland.

- Not knowing the average age of an Asura entering (and leaving) Splorge Metamystics Lab, before he goes to college.

- Not knowing the name of the guy who was Kryta’s previous king. Was he Roderick ?

- The fact there are so few non-white humans in the personal story and the living world, that many roleplayers believe humans from krytan descent are caucasian-like. Yep. Lots of them. I feel sorry for krytan people now believed to be elonians by so many players. Why are there so much people looking like ascalonian spawns in the personal story ? Seriously, they outnumber the rest of the humans our characters meet. What was that ascalonian migration led by Prince Rurik, an invasion ?

- Finding mentions of the canthan district in the game, but no proof it was (or wasn’t) the Great Collapse.

- Hoping to see one day what happened to Malyck, and where he came from.

- The physical ressemblance between Norns and Humans that no one wants to acknowledge.

- Kodans in général.

Main question :
Does that mean that ministers have to own land, or just that the ministry can only have ministers from human lands ?

Additional question :
Does the ministry in Divinity’s Reach have anything to do with Ebonhawke, outside of Kryta sending them supplies and hosting their wounded soldiers in the Vanguard hospital ?

The only ascalonian minister I ever heard of was Minister Brios, from the Ascalon Settlement.
