I’ve been on several different servers in my time playing. I’ve been on SOS twice. Although I may not have a fanclub on sos, I am impressed by both of my stays on the server. It is truly accepting of all different playstyles and no one is going to ask you to stop playing the game however it is that you enjoy playing it. Coming from a gvg perspective, SOS has embraced what we have done and have been able to maintain stability in t2 for a long time now. In my time with HOPE and now SYN, people understand how we play. Even if they don’t enjoy that style there is usually an element of respect. I am impressed with the number of non gvg guild members who will come watch us and support us on random nights in OS.

I’ve always wanted to join a T1 Server, especially for WvW. I do enjoy solo roaming, and it will always be my favorite thing to do.

Now I would like to join a T1 Server which will stay at T1 rather than moving up and down from T2. I would like to also join a roaming guild which would be able to help me learn more, and develop as a WvW player.

As someone who spent a lot of time on IOJ, you could have done that there. There were numerous skilled roaming groups in the time I was on the server, and off the server. I’ve been on several T2 servers and faced T1. Have fun trying to roam. 4 players running in the general direction of something we own? Better zerg them down!

T1 does not play the wvw you know. Almost everything shares a common denominator of PPT. There are “fights” guilds supposedly, but god forbid somebody starts attacking a keep. They’ll run away faster than you can say “Where are my bags running off to?”

All servers ppt to some extent, and some guilds are much more focused on it than others. If you really want to hone your fighting skills and become a better player, T1 is not the place to do it. T2 has enough PPT focused groups to remain in the tier with some sense of stability. But unlike T1 (given the recent disbanding of a few true “for the fights” guilds), there are groups who enjoy fighting each other. They’ll go out of their way to whisper other guild leaders to set up open field scrims or matched number fights in OS. Try this in T1, you’ll get “Sorry, we’re pushing this week!”

I am pretty sure no one is a rush to get into t1 anymore. The competitive groups have disbanded. Some motions swirling into getting a gvg scene on T2 again but who knows how it will shake out. I guess Anet’s solution to our complaints was to ignore them until the vocal players quit. T1 can have the ppt meta they love. I’m hoping for a positive future of wvw, but my faith that it will happen is not very strong, lol. Looking at the past history of dev responses to player concerns, it’s simply illogical to think anything drastic will come from Anet’s side. It’s in the players’ hands now to organize ourselves and try to strike some sort of balance.

I dont see how you manage a GvG. Do you guys make rules like how many people can be in your fight. Because every time i hear GvG i see this 15 man guild getting steam rolled by 100 man guild in my head. If its GvG then it should be your whole guild versus the other guild,, no other rules.

This is a WvW game take your guild and defend your servers stuff,,

The idea is to take on great numbers because you do more damage/support than the average group not on coms. At the extreme disparities there’s not much you can do. Lots of groups try to mimic what the top few did, but there is definitely a skill cap involved to playing the builds you need to play in order to win against the big blobs.

But, at the end of the day it’s about numbers not skill. We had fun trying though:

Edit: This is an obvious parody of t1 tactics of blobbing. He clicked his skills to prove a point that you don’t have to be a skilled player to win when you have 60 people behind you.

We didn’t want to be on T1. But when all the formidable competition transfers there, you don’t really have a choice. You don’t get better fighting inferior competition. I enjoyed my time on T2 and still think it’s the best environment for gvg to thrive on. T1 mentality will never allow gvg guilds to do what they want to do and how they do it. I enjoyed when south bl was full of gvg guilds with lots of good fights to be had.

GVG is on T1 and I am unable to join it. I’m over people moaning about server loyalty when it’s just 20-30 people who log on every day on the same t6 server afraid to transfer. Competitive PVP will bring a new spark to the game. That’s not going to happen by allowing free transfer down to empty servers. I was the one who started the “violating your game mode” back on IOJ in our GVGs where the SBI admin freaked out. Please let me violate it again on T1. I’m so sick of being on a server that doesn’t care about competitive pvp and just mass builds ACs and laughs as 10 acs take out a guild group…

Because nothing that makes wvw better happens below t3. I’ve played on kitten. It’s not fun to log in and not have a commander or anyone else playing wvw with you. WVW is easily the best game mode in the game, and it is constantly neglected and forgotten. I’m convinced that anet makes WVW the intern project. Surely, nobody who has a full time career in game development works in WVW. If they do, they should absolutely be fired lol.

I have made every effort possible to get out of my tier. But when the entire population trying to transfer has to resort to autoclicking to transfer, it becomes an RNG game of beating out the other 500 people trying to transfer with you. I don’t mind queues, I do mind not being able to get on the same server as my guild no matter what lengths I go to to get there.

I was led to believe that after seasons, the pop limit on the top servers would be increased. I have not been able to join my guild on T1 for months now. It’s a joke. I’ve paid A LOT of money into this game and I am not able to go where the actual fights are. Top 6 servers are just as full as they were during seasons. I went through ALL MEANS NECESSARY to get into T1. No dice. I am going to quit the game because I can’t fight against similarly skilled players. Honestly, I’ve gone back to Diablo 3 because it’s presented more of a challenge than facing the servers I’ve been up against. ANET, this is all I want. Accept that the competitive PVP players have consolidated on T1. We are an asset to the game and help drive the metas. Please. Just let me. Transfer. For the love of god. your pop limits are asinine when everything below t3 is effectively empty. Please lift these ASAP.

Bloodlust has been bad ever since you couldn’t get the stacks and switch to a weapon without bloodlust. Air/Fire offer more spike DPS and energy is essential in avoiding damage. Keeping bloodlust means you’re missing out on either this spike dps or damage mitigation.

Also, stacking sigils became quite BM for gvgs… you just don’t do it.

Trade a lot of badges for some item that makes your exotic have ascended stats.

So I’ve been on 5 or 6 servers and was in a GVG guild for the majority of my time playing this game (HOPE). I took a vacation after we disbanded and server hopped a few times. Lately I’ve been on YB while I wait to be able to transfer to TC.

It’s the strangest server I’ve ever been on.

Some observations:

Some of the silver league servers have MUCH higher population in NA prime than SOS/FA/Mag. I saw blobs from NSP that were much larger than I had seen in months on T2. There is a glicko barrier that has maintained the T2 matchup for a long time, and that was keeping the tier the way it was before leagues. At this point, I feel comfortable in saying that T3 and some T4 servers have more overall coverage than MAG and FA, and sometimes SOS when their OCX decide to fairweather. Obviously Mag is going to fall down. What I’ve seen from YB is pretty ridiculous coverage between hours and raw number of people on the maps. Whenever I comment on this I get the same old spiel about how YB plays hard for the seasons and then doesn’t wvw much. There are definitely quite a few servers that could take the new T2 spot.

All I’ve done is pug zerg surf and roam on YB. I’ve seen a grand total of one guild raid that looked semi-competent and that was The Coasters (even though they were tagged up for pugs when I was with them, their movement gave me the impression they at least understood the fundamentals of open-field). Outside of that, my experience leads me to conclude that YB is a server of pugs that has fully embraced the T1 PPT game. Any ridicule from me about dropping open field siege is met by a wall of red text saying that YB is winning all the fights so obviously they’re the best server. When DB loses a keep because YB has more people online, it’s because YB is more skilled, not that they have more coverage. It’s the same T1 mentality that had me in stitches the last time I was on SOS matched up against T1.

It really astounds me that so many people are fixated on this “winning” when there are hardly any prizes for it (especially outside of leagues). The farming HOPE would do when we weren’t scrimming made me a relatively wealthy player. I never do PVE, I find it extremely boring and unchallenging. I think if people took the time to learn different builds and playstyles, they’d be surprised how much playing for the fights is. I know. I was a former PPT trykitten IOJ. I used to get glee from ninjaing T3 towers and unleashing a hellfire of arrowcarts onto an enemy zerg. As soon as I learned to play (l2p nubs), the siege and ppt was empty and meaningless.

I wish there was a way to document the positive PPT effect gvg guilds had on SOS. When we first got there, NA was pretty much devoid of players. We’d get yelled at for not running across the map to help save a keep/tower, but we’d definitely help out if there was a good fight to be had (no, we’re not moving 25 players away from a good fight because you’re not capable of taking on a 10 man group). Most of the time though, especially in home bl, we kept big enemy guilds occupied by fighting them down South. If we weren’t there, they would do the same thing we did when we were bored and wanted fights… drop rams and start taking things until someone would come fight us. I guarantee we had an overall positive impact on the oh-so-precious ppt.

I’m a jerk. I’ll start this paragraph with this. I’m not a nice person and I love to see people qqing in map chat (<3 u sos). I think we should move some gvg guilds from kitten YB and ruin their PPT heaven. There is enough of a population here to maintain t2 easily. It would bring stability to t2 again and unify the GVG population. Right now the community is fractured between T1 and T2. After this season ends, interaction between the two tiers will be extremely limited. It’s unclear if/when Anet will increase the population caps for T1 servers so full guilds can transfer over again.

Otherwise: Please anet, I’m stuck on YB. I just want to run with a highly ranked gvg group again and farm baddies and scrim other good players. Please help, the locals are probably going to try and kill me soon. Let me in to TC please? <3?

l2 get your PvE population into WvW like Yaks Bend does and you’ll do just fine.

SoS has like 400 times the WvW population of YB.

As someone who spent months on SOS and a week on YB, this is ONLY true in OCX. SOS is a ghost town in NA, I have no idea how they held on to things in NA prime. No one ever tagged and when they did they were mostly afraid to fight and would just build acs until the other server got bored of trying to siege a t3 tower/keep. From what I’ve seen T3 has a much stronger NA population than T2, glicko and SOS ocx is the only thing keeping that matchup the same once tournament ends.

I hope ANET ignores this with the same intensity as anything to do with gvg/fights that was ever suggested. Sorry something got in the way of your pvdoor guys! Maybe try fighting now?

Anet doesn’t care. I was one of the first along with my homie star player to violate the game mode via gvg (or at least first to get officially called out for it by an anet employee). I’ll give them props for implementing OS but they’ve mostly just ignored wvw. I’m pretty sad to see the fallout of what’s about to happen. It’s been a lot of fun guys. See you around.

Good fights tonight, AGG is an amazing guild to fight against and it’s been great going up against them for a long time. Hopefully EU doesn’t completely shrug off NA anymore, but probably too little too late.

This needs too be addressed ASAP. I will never have faith in anet again if this game dies off. GW2 was the first game I really fell in love with and enjoy playing. We got nothing but living story updates for the longest time, and then the few offerings for wvw were either a slap in the face or executed extremely poorly (see: EOTM). Almost every update has rewarded players who don’t want to pvp in a pvp game mode and rewarded PVE players who don’t even play wvw very much at all.

Guilds are disbanding daily. SOS has no queues outside of reset (one to two maps, <10 queues) and nothing during the week besides an occasional EB queue. We will spend an hour just running across maps looking for someone to fight. Then people wither run away or we wipe them once and they log. There simply are not as many people playing the game. It turns into looking for the same 2-3 guild groups a night, then fighting each other over and over again. Cue the burnout and more people quitting which leads to more guilds disbanding.

Stop being passive as developers and sitting around to “wait and see” what happens. This has so much promise, and I don’t see what this game looks like in 2 months time. Do the right thing and start making changes.

Axe is extremely useful for me in gvgs. Best single target burst we have outside of lifeblast. Get a good build, you’ll love your axe.

Chaba is a very knowledgeable wvw player and has the patience to teach someone from square one. Definitely check this out if you think wvw is fun but want to start the process of getting better in an environment that is conducive to learning!

FA has been sending secret undercover agents to tc’s DR to learn the secrets behind your power. We have not made much progress. I walked into a room with a Norn and an asura who seemed to have lost their clothes. I jumped on the bed with them and they were not very accomodating. I thought TC would be a friendlier place, but I guess I was mistaken.

(PS: terrible roleplayers,when I spam pistol shots no one acts like they are being shot. 2/10 at best.)

I was scouting for FA on eb for the last few hours. Our main force never even ventured to TC side. How those were flipped, I don’t know, but it wasn’t our militia zerg (that’s all I think we have at this time of night). If they were flipped illegitimately, it doesn’t represent our server, and I know 99.9% of us don’t condone that type of play. The ones of us that were on that I know were in our corner playing defense. We were even outmanned for a bit (haven’t seen that buff in a longgg time) and I think that’s around when those towers flipped. Sorry, it’s bs, and we’d prefer to win fairly.

Good fights this week, and I look forward to what the rest of the week has to hold.

Wow. I mean, yes these matchup threads can sometimes turn a little toxic. But they were integral to the growth of wvw. From the most primary function of setting up gvgs/open field battles, to more complex functions like giving props when props were due and establishing the cultures of the different servers. WVW won’t be the same without it. If they are 100% not going to be here, we need to set up an external community asap. Yeah, we kitten talk each other, but at the end of the day I think we all respect each other and enjoy the friendly (and even the not so friendly) competition the forum helps to create.

Inb4 infraction, but this is the most carebear move I’ve seen in a while on the dev front. I’ve got thick skin and like being called a baddy. It makes our open field wipe of you that much better, and it makes me take it that much more seriously when I die stupidly. Without it… you’re facing pixels on a screen, not another human being.

The math of it is this: You can force a server into second with double teaming. You don’t get to third without getting outmanned or giving up. We know the populations of the servers involved so… what’s the story SBI?

I can see your kitten has only grown stronger since you trolled your own leader out of the guild. I can understand your behavior though, such a massive organ requires a lot of blood that would otherwise be put to use in your brain.

Personally I am curious how you guys keep managing to whisper taunts and abuses to me every time we kill you regardless of how my block list grows every time. Enjoy it while it lasts I suppose, eventually all of CORE will be blocked, and you will have nobody to talk to but the next guy in the jerking circle.

And I will say it again. We do not gvg, we think it is a perversion of the game mode, you can find us every night after 8:30 pm, no exceptions. I can guarantee you that we are not hiding behind walls and gates, we are capping back everything that should be ours in our BL or in EB every single night.

Your opinion is your opinion and I’m not going to hammer you for having one that disagrees with me. I will say though, I’d ask your guild members again if they all really think its a “perversion of the game mode” or if its really just you and a select few being overly zealous about it and discouraging it in your guild. The fact that you take it to the extremities of “perverted” does reflect poorly on your guild in my eyes (not that you should care what i think or anything either). There isn’t much of a rational argument you can make that has even numbered open field fights a “perverted” version of gameplay lol.

I get that you don’t want to put your guild out there on even terms with another guild. You guys don’t have the experience and the theory crafting based around even numbered engagements, and that’s fine. There’s definitely a learning curve, but I will say that if you actually want to be the best WvW guild possible (not saying that’s your goal, it definitely might not be), you guys should reconsider it. It exposes your weak spots so that you can correct them, and it will only help your guild get better. I don’t mean that patronizing at all either….I don’t think we’ve actually ever even been on the map with Mend cept maybe one time a few weeks ago in a Garrison fight.

I didn’t say it was the best or only game mode. Just that as much talk that goes on the forums, the easiest way to see who the most skilled fighting group is, is to remove all possible variables and to engage after they have been removed.

Bandwagon? I’m sure the blues greens and finishers are definitely the reason why we moved. We’re entirely too ready for seasons to be over, we want to be getting steamrolled again. The PVF is entertaining, but constant good fights are much more entertaining for us. It’s nice to be on a server where other guilds enjoy the same style of fighting and are there by our side when the going is tough.

Flappy bro, pvp means player vs. player in very general terms, like what wvw is. I did not say spvp. Like anyone (from IOJ or any other opposing server, hell even we’re guilty of it and I’m not going to lie about it) you have a very selective memory when it comes to wipes/getting wiped. But like I said, I would expect nothing less from you or anyone else. With all the chaos that happens in wvw from militia jumping in to another server coming in when a battle is 99% won, GvG clears out the random clutter and allows for 15 players from 2 guilds to focus only on fighting each other. Like I said, if you don’t see the value in that, then I don’t really have much time or respect for you or your guild. Even those who don’t actively gvg can see the value of it.

And sorry, I don’t know anything about last night, I was travelling to be with my family for thanksgiving. Happy thanksgiving Flappy if you’re Murican, and if not you have no excuse not to get on tonight (when I’ll have my first real internet connection in almost 3 weeks). Get ready son, prepare your rear quarters.

Flappy, we wouldn’t message you so much if you didn’t rage so much. It’s quite entertaining for us actually. And perversion of the game mode? I think any serious wvw guild, even if they don’t gvg, sees it as a viable and interesting way to fight on an even playing field. In weeks like this where we queue most maps through NA prime time and EB for pretty much all day outside of 2-4 hours, GVG is a nice way to forget all the population imbalance and have a good fight. If you don’t see the value in that, then I really question why you play wvw.

At any rate, we’d love if you all came out tonight even though it’s thanksgiving in the states. It will be the last time we’ll be matched up for MONTHS, so we’d like to get a few more good fights in.

But yeah, keep those arrow carts warmed and those chokepoints full! And make sure if the enemy has more than you to turn around 180 degrees and run for the tower! Can I be in MEND now? I think I have all the rules down pat.

We’re FA homies now. I apologize for not handling this all privately. It escalated publicly and as one of the leaders of CORE I should have stopped that earlier and not participated in it. I appreciate you all and will be glad to fight alongside you all in the future. We were just particularly sensitive because we had a lot of friends and frienimies on IOJ we wanted to fight without the huge population advantage playing as large of a role. I drove the GVG vs TE where the GW2 admin said we were “violating his game mode” that led to the creation of this new area. For a few weeks after that I was big on campaigning for a gvg area along with some of the big gvg guilds in Europe, so to see it rendered ineffective on day 1 annoyed us more than it would most people, lol

Today forward, we’re FA brothers so let’s fight together and gank noobs together. We’ll gladly flank for you in the future and hope you’d do the same. Let’s get out of leagues and get some real fights going!
