Hello, I was just curious if the sPvP community would see any use in a place to post, host, and rate sPvP youtube videos. Someone on my gw2wvw.net forums asked recently if i’d consider a subforum for sPvP, but to be honest I don’t see the need for it. But, if you look at the front page of the site or go under Collections/Videos (http://www.gw2wvw.net/videos), you’d see a ton of WvW videos posted daily, rated, and the weekly best are advertised longer.

Just seeing if this is something the sPvP community may be interested in that I can build in.

So… what’s issue with just using gw2wvw.net then? It would be the same thing, if anet isn’t responsible, then there’s no moderating, and you’d get the exact same content on gw2wvw.net

So… being that person who decided to keep it super mildly moderated. I pose to you the exact same question I ask every time

Who would you trust to moderate unbiasedly? And who would be willing to do it and go through hundreds of posts per day?

So far no one has been able to answer that satisfactorily. Trust me, if I moderated as if I had the time to and I wanted to clean it up, half of the people there would be banned, but then what makes it different than the anet moderation? We know that pvp’rs typically get a bit more…. excited, and therefore I allow for that. Don’t want to read it? Don’t go there (although I think that the video section is quite useful to all).

That said, I derive a laugh or two from the forum, which is why I glance through my own matchup from time to time.

Biggest problem is that chat is generally restricted to a zone. You’ll cut down a lot of participation because people simply won’t be able to hear where it is. Moving in a zone, maybe, moving around the world will likely kill the event.

I prefer to keep movement on WASD and dedicate most of my left hand to that. Everything else is on a razer naga mouse. That provides plenty of speed. F1-F4 is bound to shift-1 to shift-4 to allow shift + naga click

Concur, don’t get mats back but get those sigils/runes out!

Disagree, I enjoy the long-term battle. EOTM demonstrates the “quick game” and I feel like I never achieve anything because it’s gone in a couple hours.

Hah, you should try being on HOD where mass guilds come, mass guilds go. If there was an award for revolving door, HOD would get it.

Well… it worked for that 1 guy. He tried multiple guilds, the invis/online, etc. So, just offering it up as a possible solution to some of you.

Fixed it for a guy, I had him drop every guild he was in, then reinvited him. That worked

It’s come up yet again that there’s some questioning about forum moderation (or lack thereof). Currently there’s two main options, anet moderation here, or no moderation there. I am opening up the question (for the 3rd, 4th time or so) as to if you want moderated forums, who would you nominate to be fair and unbiased. (most of you will see the problem with that right off the bat especially in a player vs player environment)

Trying to address your concerns, but I need help from your side too because I don’t have time to interview people or read hundreds of posts per day to try to discern who is ‘reasonable and fair’

Haven’t won it yet, won’t win it. I have friends with every character at level 80 and 100% world completion (yes, on every single character), and they still log in every single day to do things and have fun.

I don’t think you need a link, anytime there’s a new zone there’s a surge of interest that will fade over time. Look at Dry Top and Silverwastes as examples, or EOTM.

If you’re willing to do it slowly, go post your own LFG saying ‘Newbie friendly’ or something like that. The people who join those know up front to expect people to watch the video and not try to skip everything. I tend to do that for my guild groups where I need 1-2 more people. I warn them upfront we’re not going fast.

My thoughts since I enjoy dungeons/fractals

-Clear out the trash mobs. Everyone just runs or bugs past them and they are pointless time sinks.

I don’t think the trash mobs are that bad, I don’t mind them and it increases loot chances overall. I can’t think of a dungeon that the trash mobs get to a point of being annoying. I think some of them (particularly ascalon) it’s fun to be running like mad through the graveling tunnels.

-Change some of the dynamics of boss fights. I know this is easier said then done, but are we really supposed to settle on stacking in the corner for half of the fights in the game?

It’s less ‘boss dynamics’ than stop the exploiting of being able to stack in a spot that the Boss can’t use it’s special skills on, or is at significant disadvantage. This has gotten fixed a good bit in Fractals, but dungeons need their exploit spots eliminated.

-I know this game is different and relies on movement over health to keep yourself alive, but maybe change some of the dmg output so you aren’t 1-2 shotted.

Disagree, I think that if you’re in pure zerker, you should have an opportunity for being 1-2 shot. If you’re in a full PVT set, in that case yes you shouldn’t be 1-2 shot, but maybe only 2-3 shot.

-Make the story mode soloable…please

Personal story I found completely soloable until Zhaitan. Living story 2 I enjoyed the difficulty increase and requiring help to get the achievements. (I was able to solo the whole thing except for the final LS2 boss)

-Make the paths a little bit clearer…Arah comes to mind.
Will agree with this, I never found it very confusing, but can see how it can be.

Completely concur, I love that you ‘can’ tank, you ‘can’ heal, you ‘can’ debuff, but you are never forced into a role (that said, some classes do it better than others, but you can build so you can be superior than the average build for the ‘main’ class)

If you’re talking about the last week’s T1 matchup thread… someone from that got all their posts wiped.

As the site creator, I think the site is awfully healthy at least NA-wise. I’m assuming… somewhere.. there are EU matchup forums, but I haven’t looked. Maybe EU just isn’t into PvF as NA is. But feel free to post around EU community sites if you want to try to re-encourage it.

Other response to the site being ‘dead’. Right now the site gets approx 13k pagehits a day, so if anything, there’s people looking at it, and this number has been steadily increasing over time. And there were a number of unhappy people (from emails) when I had server issues that took me about a week to resolve (and the resolution causing about 8 hours of downtime). So people care at least.

As far as moderation, if you see a persistent problem, send me a note on it with a link to the comment. I had a report abuse button on it but after a few months, I recently removed it because 99% of the things reported wouldn’t even get infracted on this forum. IMO, for a gaming pvp forum, the population is remarkably well behaved. I find it humorous scrolling through pages most of the time.

That said, I’m currently deployed so my response time is a tad slow, but right now I favor a largely unmoderated forum vs trying to find people who would be fair in upholding some standard.

Honestly you might want to check here, also check the GvG page in the menu for potential matchups…. inb4 removed…

We redesigned the front page to make it easier to find non-forum things that may interest you be them videos, polls, or other hot topics. The top menu bar shows a variety of WvW as well as PvE utilities and a link to every server’s community forums for your reference.

And the PvF is going strong with last week’s top thread having 807 posts… yes.. the spamminess was strong in this one but it’s a new week and T1 through T3 are battling it out. (and so far it’s appearing that every thread with SOR in it is topping each week’s PvF’ing)

I encourage you to drop by, add your thoughts, add your best videos (and rate the massive pile of them we have under Collections->Videos), grab a beer and enjoy!

If you go to http://www.gw2wvw.net and look at the menu, click Servers, then you can find addresses to about 95% of the individual community forums out there

And if you’re still missing one, we can probably host it on the above website with the exact same moderation, which is nearly zip (which really has been a nice surprise that the community is quite good with each other)

We already have a hefty collection of videos and would love to have yours if you would like to add them.

1 – You can back up against the far side on the wall and with the right angle and range, arc your grenades over. Also for keeps that you can, you can jump up on the back ‘edge’ and that helps you arc your grenades over into the fray. Keep an eye on your health for retaliation, change your aoe when you see lots of damage coming back your way

Also I would always have a toolkit on utility switch, as soon as you get pulled, get your gear shield up and with dodges, you’ll usually make it back inside (or the invuln miniaturizing skill I can’t remember right now)

2 – Don’t repair gates being heavily attacked. Depending on what’s going on, it may be best to use that supply (and keep supply) on a door facing catapult or more ACs.

Which is why the matchup forum (former and current) are much more interesting to read than this one

Your map is not representative of all of us. Outside of the whole crashing mess last night, we had plenty of people throughout wvw as did our competition. I cannot support this recommendation at all. Options are good, do not remove options.

It’s been what, only 1 week since EOTM came out? And we’re all crying that the witch is dead already.

EOTM is brand new, it’s a new shiny squirrel. It’s way too early to call WvW dead. Let the initial surge of EOTM end. For myself I am still having a ball in WvW with smaller groups hitting each other vs huge zergs.

Whoa no no no, I am really enjoying the reduction in population for roaming/small grouping. For now (at least till EOTM wears off), it’s nice to have a lesser blobby population running around and more 10v10’s smacking into each other.

EOTM is hot now because it’s new and people want a change. Give it a few more weeks and see what happens to the population overall.

I don’t see a reason to create a single big mega-map. What’s wrong with the 4 map mechanic now?

Also there’s nothing wrong with having the same map 3 times. Look at EB, each side is a bit different and it’s unbalanced to a degree (OL being able to treb SM vs requiring Klovan/Durios). Trying to balance terrain features would be horrific if all 3 BLs were different. I like that each BL is the same to give the same pros and cons to all regardless what color you are that week.

I’ve quite enjoyed my time here. With the combat mechanics I feel much more actively engaged than most other MMORPGs (click.. wait for global cooldown… click….. arrows arc sideways towards you like heatseeking missles, no dodge mechanic)

As extreme optional that would be fine. Every game with a server wide chat i’ve seen has devolved into a bunch of spam.

My guild and I tend to play dungeons/content ‘as they were designed’, so no spider stacking, no keeping 1 alive on cliff fractal, actually doing that guy in the middle of AC explorable (the whirlwind pull guy). It makes it a whole lot more fun imo.

I do enjoy difficult content so quite enjoying the current living stories and while PvE overworld content isn’t terribly difficult, it’s varied enough (verses LOTRO’s, hey welcome to the new zone for level XX-XXX… kill 20 boars like you did in the LAST 10 zones) that it keeps me interested. The evolution of characters over levels also is interesting to me.

Sylvari is one of the least populated starting areas. As you get up to the upper levels into the more ‘common’ maps, like Lion’s Arch… you’ll run into a whole lot more. This game has been out a while so most people have mid/upper leveled characters.

Don’t lose hope, just relax, and if you REALLY want to meet people early on, go to the human starting area of Queensdale… that said, map chat there tends to get like the old WoW Barren’s chat, pretty terrible.

i’ve actually been having a lot more fun in WvW since EOTM came out since it has thinned out the population and leads to a lot more small group fights (my preference). That said, options are good, and it’s terrific that EOTM has a significantly different flavor than WvW so people can go to one option or the other when they tired of their current one.

Honestly I like it too, much easier to follow where i’m at in the middle of a mess (small asurans get lost in all those hairy charr legs)

I like having an option between EOTM and WvW. EOTM was fun for a while exploring it, but it doesn’t have a sense of community at all, just a bunch of people thrown together. I think part of that has to do with not seeing names of other people on your team on EOTM, not knowing the commander’s name unless mousing over the tag or it’s in chat, or making it far harder to have any community VOIP.

Plus while everyone was enjoying EOTM, there was more small group action going on in WvW which was quite enjoyable
