The Real L.A.

I wouldn’t expect Anet to redesign LA at this point. Alot of work for no tangible benefit.

However, the lack of a ‘lollygagging’ spot definitely needs addressing.

I think they should just simply un-mega ALL the cities, thus bringing back the sense of a local server and community.

People will naturally find a spot, it doesn’t need to be dictated. But with mega-server on the cities, it can’t work.

Do you get abuse when Commanding?

Will.6829

I’ve been randomly commanding all over Tyria over the years and honestly can’t remember getting any significant abuse. People are always glad when someone tags up to attract a crowd for an event.

Seems to me these ‘keyboard commanders’ are just players upset at their ownselves being unwilling to spend the gold on ‘just a tag’.

Just ignore them, they always go away.

Squad issues when comm disconnects

Will.6829

As your proposing a fix to a problem that only occurs with problematic hardware at a user level, I wouldn’t expect devs to put any sort of priority on this.

So perhaps a better workaround, then, is that if/when this happens, you simply exit the squad and tag up solo, and just map chat it up till the squad gets fixed in 10 minutes.

Surely that’d hold you over for 10 mins?

All the pugs can just carry on following ‘the blue tag’. If you’re on the ball, they’d likely barely notice…

I wouldn’t expect it to drop in price until other expansion comes along.

Dragons overused? *story spoilers

Will.6829

I think ‘the problem’ is that the story is becoming primarily designed around what’s practical and feasible within the game engine. The system has grown too complex for radical, technically demanding storylines.

This will only get worse as the game evolves. To make big story changes then, you need a big update, and that takes an expansion.

It seems they’ve now realised this given LS3 is going to be exactly that.

Getting disconnected in instances

Will.6829

I experienced the exact behaviour the OP described last night, however, this occurred right before a 5 minute long power cut in my area.

On power return, I carried on playing for a good hour or two more with no cut-off, so I concluded it was simply the power cut. I’ve never experienced a dropout like this during a single player instance ever before.

So I only mention this, at all, simply because the behaviour was precisely what the OP described. Hope this helps in some way…

Yes, I noticed this too recently, just thought it was me momentarily losing my ‘knack’ for timing it.

Seems it works 50% of the time, so I’d guess they’ve made some server code changes, and so we’ll prob now just simply have to relearn the precise timing again.

Can we Please have less chaotic events?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Will.6829

Will.6829

I’m definitely a ‘pro chaos’ person. I love the fiddliness of the Engineer class and that’s compounded in big events – I love it!

My advice to the OP, however, would be to rather assume to necessarily be involved with all aspects of an event; instead, focus and dedicate yourself to one smaller part and do it really well.

Or assign a role to yourself, like be the healer for a particular group.

You’re essentially choosing to take in too much information, so I’d suggest breaking down the task and tackle it in smaller pieces. Events are supposed to be setup like this anyway, and that’s certainly been my experience so far.

Also, always be of the mindset to just ALT+F4 and walk away if you’re not enjoying it. You always have that control.

Seems everyone’s taken for granted it’s now fixed with the 64-bit client.

Go back to the 32-bit client, wait for it to crash when you least expect it, and tell me that isn’t THE MOST annoying bug?

Glad they fixed that, really am!

Vendor Ascended Gear?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Will.6829

Will.6829

I use my copper fed salvage kit for green and lower items and silver fed kit for rare or higher. Sometimes I’m not paying attention and go to use the wrong kit on a rare item and it asks if I’m sure I want to salvage it. I choose ‘No’ and use the right kit for it.

What they could do for rare or higher items is have a confirmation window pop up when selling to a merchant/vendor, just like you get when salvaging rare or higher quality items. “Are you sure you want to sell this item?” It could solve the whole issue. And if you still sell it by accident then you really need to start paying attention more.

That surely can’t be hard to do.

Personally I find it more annoying to have a confirmation dialogue when buying Obsidian shards for karma (which I couldn’t care less about). And yet you can flog off an Ascended weapon for 1G instantly.

Never happened to me, but I’ve been close! (had to use buy back – phew!).

So yeah, just add a confirmation when selling exotic/ascended.

[BUG] Hidden Miniatures

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Will.6829

Will.6829

Yes, I’ve noticed as well that it has been happening since HoT’s release, yet none has brought it to attention here.

However recently it seems to be happening more and more frequently as it has gotten to the point that I loose my mini not even half an hour later after I turn it back on every time. In fact I’ve given up on this by now and just leave it hidden all the time.

Yet, Anet still sells mini’s in gemstore and I haven’t seen a word about this issue before. It makes mini’s complettly uselles if I have to remember about turning them on every other 5 mins.

This was reported a few months back, see here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Miniatures-STOP-UNCHECKING-THEM

You’ll note I made the same point you made and further added that adding a mini to your wardrobe is now LESS convenient since it frequently unchecks, compared to a mini in your inventory that can be simply double clicked.

Wardrobe mini:

1. Open hero panel.
2. Navigate back to root page if necessary.
3. Choose mini page.
4. Click on mini tick box.

Not-committed mini.

1. Open inventory.
2. Double click mini.

So now when you commit a mini to your wardrobe, you both make it less convenient to enable AND lose the ability to sell.

That’s lose-lose, by ANY measure!

Incredible idea!

And make them explode with confetti on death with a crazy party pop sound.

Honestly, some of my best moments in HoT have been the various (and hiliarious!) altercations with little packs of Pocket Raptors.

Will.6829

Wow, I had no idea there was so much hate for Trahearne (which I share), but for totally different reasons!

So I didn’t feel, in any way, he was stealing my limelight (only played as human, and asura). No, not at all.

But what I did hate was how much of a totally wet, unassertive, and frankly unbelievably soft sounding leader he was. No one would follow that voice into certain death combat; just no military gravitas whatsoever. Nothing irked my skin more than taking out some enemies and having him condescendingly say “well done!” as if I needed his personal commendation to know I’ve done well.

Every time I heard him speak I just wanted to punch him in the mouth!

Shallow, I know, but there it is…

As a matter of course you should always join a party during big events to ensure you rejoin the same map you were dropped from if/when disconnected.

This is precisely why you see people spamming “LFG” in map chat when big events kick off. They’re not just being clingy – They’re exploiting the party tool as an Anti-DC mechanism!

Now you know…

I’ve been invisiballed several times myself. I’ve made it a habit to look all the way up where the balls are coming from before proceeding up the ramp they roll down on. If the next visible ball seems too far away, I’m assuming there’s an invisible one in front of it.

Yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing. And then after the first instance, making a mental note of how it times with the Skritt artillery in the area.

Just another ‘endearing’ quirk that somehow ends up making it more addictive!

Very Mario Bros. stylee…

Miniatures: STOP UNCHECKING THEM

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Will.6829

Will.6829

I’ve noted that it happens when minis are hidden due to rising population. They aren’t just hidden, they’re unchecked so they don’t automatically reappear.

Yes, that’s precisely the problem.

They’ve evidently chosen the simplest and fastest way to hide minis which is to just ‘untick’ them on the clientside. Dead simple.

They just need to back that up with a function that re-ticks.

Or, you know, just make minis entirely clientside (like they should be since there’s no need to interact with them) and never hide them. Job done.

For me that stopped the resizing.

Will.6829

This bug is more ‘serious’ than I think Anet realise, let me explain…

Before this bug, committing a mini to your account meant you can no longer trade it, but you have the advantage that it’s always on. Very convenient, what I want.

Since this bug, you’re now WORSE off having committed it to your account, since an unlinked one can be enabled quickly by pressing I and double clicking the mini.

Far faster than opening hero panel, navigating back to home, then navigating to mini, then ticking it.

So I now have none of the convenience, and no option to sell. Lose-Lose scenario!

Please fix Anet, thanks…

I’m replying to note that I’m using Nvidia DSR and so my game resolution is set to 2880×1620, whilst my monitor is only 1080p (1920×1080).

AMD have their equivalent also (VSR) and I suspect that this disparity of game res vs detected max monitor res might be part of the problem…

Roll back Divs Reach BG Ambience please!

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Will.6829

Will.6829

Whoa Will, yep that sounds really annoying. Thanks for posting about it, and for linking a sound file which made looking up the specific cause relatively easy. Positing the very exact area of a map that you’re in can also make things pretty quick for us to track down too.

So this is a bug that was exposed by a recent change to the audio engine. Good news is that all the particular instances of this type of bug can (and have) been fixed internally through content redesign (doesn’t need any further engine rework). These fixes should be out to you in the next major content release. Sorry for the disturbance to the peace!

Excellent!

Thankyou for an extremely prompt and positive response, very much appreciated.

Based on the NPCs talking in Will’s audio file, I found the location he was at. It’s near the leather working station and comes from the trio of NPCs in the image below.

Roll back Divs Reach BG Ambience please!

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Will.6829

Will.6829

Seriously, would it be possible to roll back to the pre-patch Divinity’s Reach Background Ambience sound track please?

As I like to have my Ambience turned way up I’ve immediately noticed the Divs Reach BG sound has changed to a harrowing random mashup of that stupid ‘clicking’ sound (what’s that supposed to be anyway?). It’s become unbearable to stand anywhere except the Palace waypoint area, and maybe a few other places.

See the following recording for an example: willmaltby.com/harrowing_bg_ambience.m4a

I’d really appreciate it if this could be addressed please as it’s something that noticably marred the game experience for me.

Thank you.

Double-tap Dodge detection altered?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Will.6829

Will.6829

Hi,

Maybe it’s just me, but it definitely feels like the heuristic employed to detect a double tap (and thus perform a dodge) has been ‘tweaked’ in this latest patch.

Whilst it has achieved it’s presumed purpose to make it easier, this subtle change has caused me to be dodging frivolously all over the place now.

I was used to the old code, as I’m sure many others are/were. So would it be possible to either redact the change or have an option added (even just a commandline switch) to enable the previous behaviour please?

Unless I’m just making this up, in which please ignore me

Hearing Player Shouts for Map

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Will.6829

I’m also Experiencing this too. However…

Now I know it’s playing other character’s sounds, I suddenly have found this EXTREMELY useful. Practically a feature as far as I’m concerned. Having perpetual intel on what other players are up to increases immersion for me and also lets me know how active a map is at any given point.

So can I please seriously propose that when this gets fixed, add a commandline switch to enable it for those so inclined?

I’d really appreciate that, thanks.
