Katniss Shade – Necromancer 80 – sPvp rank – 29
Emma Wolfsbane – Thief 80 – Looking for Guild
The only time it fills slow is if you are a conditionmancer. Every other build it fills quickly. If you are a conditionmancer I recommend grabbing spectral armor as your third skill TO fill it up. It fills up fast enough that in a 1v1 if you DS right away, you will have a full bar before the fights over (after it wears off)
@Odeken up until like 2008 pets hindered the experience in parties. After like 2008 even a beastmaster + jug pet wouldn’t do more damage than a class designed to do dmg. That class changing based on what year, at one point it was dragoons, another samurai, another black mage, another summoner, you get the point.
In ballista the only useful pet was a tiger and there was only one tiger jug at the time, the level 28 one. I was on the team that won the ballista tournament for sylph and represented the team in world pvp, Anyway out of topic, people are acting like these things don’t ever happen in MMOs and areanet is making these problems. These issues have existed in plenty of MMO’s hence why I referenced them.
@Schnitter, you can activate DS if you are stunned or daze and you can drop DS cooldown to 6 seconds. Thats 3 seconds of stability every 6 seconds, pretty awesome to me.
DS does not fill slowly. You just have to spec toward it.
With all the condition duration we can easily make our fears 3 seconds.
Well For me No and Yes, Ive been leveling my ele since the start up to lvl80 and yes i like the class but no they are not on par damage wise at 80 dont care what anyone say
Ive got full exotic crafted gear and exotic staff and i find the cursed shore hell. Im sorry but he person who said you can take 5 mobs there as a staff ele and wack them down quicker than any other class talks total bollocks in my oppinion (until proven otherwise).
I struggle to barely stay alive with one mob. unless you guessed it the mob happens to be a rissen wizard which uses the same skills as a ele. You can basically just stand there and knock em down
Try D/D, building 30 points into water and at least 10 into earth and at least 10 into arcane. I can tank for a very very long time and the damage isn’t that much lower than a power/precision build. I was in Orr at the melandru avatar and I had to have at least 6 guys including 2 veterans on me and I came out on top. Using the elite elemental in water attunement virtually makes you invincible and he doesn’t die very fast either with the dagger water skills.
My mistake, I guess I just level too fast
I don’t believe you are a competitive player at all possante. Not even for a instant.
Necromancer have two extremely effective builds in tPvp and one decent build.
Both conditionmancer and bunker build are AMAZING as a necromancer.
What do guardians use as a bunker build? Boons, protection and retaliation to be more specific. Walls. Knockdowns. Knockbacks. Heals.
What do necromancers use as a bunker build? Anti-Boons, protection, life force, chill, fear, Anti-conditions, blind, heals.
The bunker necromancer is the anti-bunker guardian. If you don’t know that you don’t tpvp. A bunker necromancer effectively has three health bars. One for death shrouding right away, one his actual health bar and one for a second death shroud. When he elites theres no way a melee can kill him with blind spam and hes not considered immortal so you still can cap points in cloud form. In ranged theres no way a condition build can kill a necromancer, a necromancer has THREE ways to transfer conditions. Not REMOVE them but TRANSFER them. Condition builds are vast because its the easiest way to take down a bunker guardian.
In my opinion there are not a limited amount of builds in PvE. PvE content is so easy that you can play with just about any build. If you are a elitest like myself there are builds that far surpass others and there always will be. That doesn’t mean other builds aren’t effective. I can easily do end game content with minions, and finish the end game content. I just contribute more to the team if I don’t use minions. In order to make every build viable end game content would have to be dumbed down and weakened to a pre-school level. Non-dungeon end game is nothing but a zerg fest so any build works and your contribution really doens’t matter as most people just use auto attacks anyway.
@Wulfrim
I wouldn’t argue that rangers are an incapable class. When I do sPvP, I am often times at top of the team. Also, in tournament settings, I feel like I can contribute. That is not to say this change to the short-bow is unnoticeable for I noticed it and was impacted by it immediately. You talk about your teammate in Pvp, but have you yourself played ranger significantly before and after this change?I am getting off track, however. The origin of this thread was in regards to the “animation fix”. When people read this initially, me included, we were under the impression that this would not have a large impact on game-play. However, in actuality, the short-bow nerf could be felt quite substantially. People thought this was an unintended side effect of the “animation fix,” but we later learned that it was code name for a nerf the devs had performed. Presently a nerf falsely as an “animation fix” did not sit right with many people.
In addition, people are also trying to find out about a nerf to the interactivity between QZ and crossfire. However, even after this many posts, not a single comment in regards to this has been made by a dev. Thus, people are beginning to question if this is yet another intentional nerf.
I personally have only played ranger in spvp after the nerf. I performed fine. This is a issue about rangers ability because it seems the large majority of people who posted on this forum are saying “Rangers cant do anything now” rather than “Area net nerfed us when they said they were fixing a animation issue” In fact the majority of threads on page 1 are “Rangers cant do anything now”
There’s actually quite a bit more effective builds! I’m quite fond of a healing tank minion master build I run in WvW (Kind of like that deathshroud power build you mentioned in all honesty. Also charr necro deathshrouding in WuvWuvWuv is an excellent linebreaker!)
As well as the pseudo theif vampiric build (Great for condition eating)! They are really handy especially if you take a general vitality power build and give em daggers (y’know, like they hint at >.>) and get them to go speed take yaks and sentries and hell even one versus one lone stragglers in wvw. Also an excellent build if you’re going into TA. However that being saaaaaid it also requires more mobility than say, a MM or Conditionmancer. So much more fun though!
I will say though that while those builds are great I hope that eventually they allow vampirism to be affected by healpower x3.
Oh yes! and you can be quite the healer with a mark/wellcaster necro! (well you can be a great healer anyway if you know how to play your class and are geared right xP)
I’m honestly looking for a wellcaster to go running with in a party full of diff specced necros!
In my post the builds comment was directed at sPvp and tPvp and I also mentioned I just wrote the builds I have personally tried and deemed effective in competitive enviornments. I will say this, I will never deem a minion master build effective in a competitive enviornment unless A. the necromancer can summon such a overwhelming army you can’t target him or B. the minions become so powerful they do more damage than the necromancer itself and can’t be killed.

Isn’t traeharne a necromancer wielding a greatsword? I wouldn’t get your hopes up simply on that observation.
Sorry but is this pvp game or pve game because if fixing events is more important than fixing pvp then i bought wrong game
Where did they say this was a pvp exclusive game? GW1 is and they said it was. This game I almost remember them saying this was both, hence the massive world map, the dynamic events, the dungeons, the 80 levels.
Wells are very important, but all classes have that.
In my opinion thieves need that signet that adds run speed and dagger.
Warriors need endure pain.
Elementalists need cantrips
Guardians need shouts
Engineers need elixirs
Rangers need shortbow
Um. Wulfrim, your posts are coming across as rude and antagonistic. Neither qualities are contributing anything to this thread. Maybe instead of calling posters babies, telling them to l2p and to not to be so negative, you could shed light on your experience of playing a ranger before and after the stealth nerf of 7th October.
Many thanks.
I apologize, I received rude replies so I replied with rude responses. You can take babies as an insult if you wish but I don’t know how else to compare it. Babies whine and cry when they don’t get what they want right away. That’s exactly how people are acting. It seemed like a fitting analogy.
Before hand we had a ranger, shortbow/axe/warhorn trap condition ranger on our tournament team. His job was to neutralize bunkers with a ally, steal svanir/chieftain and take down the enemy lord. Before the patch him and one other were able to take down bunker guardians very quickly. After the patch he can still take down bunkers very quickly. He can still roam effectively and intercept other roamers and take them 1v1. He can still steal svanir and chieftain. He can still solo all the lord monsters with a 1 defender. I don’t know what else you want me to say? There is little/no difference in his performance and ability to do what is needed in our tpvp team after the patch. Are the numbers smaller? Maybe, but the traps still apply a lot of conditions, shortbow still applies a lot of conditions and he can still solo like the best of us.
Really the only use for crafting is legendary weapons and each legendary weapon requires two different crafts to be 400. So it really depends on which legendary weapon you are going for. Armor crafting is really just for making gear for alts because the chances of your skill level matching your character level are slim unless you have outside sources for gold. Cooking is just for the food buffs, its really just cheaper to buy the food on the auction than leveling cooking.
The axe is a failure of a weapon, even scepter will outdamage it in a power build. You should never be using it. Use staff for long range(or scepter if you hate staff), dagger for short.
Yeah maybe the auto attack, but axe 2 and 3 are both very impressive. If you just want to sit there and auto attack your target then go dagger.
Axe auto is for one thing and one thing only, vulnerability.
Staff is for long range/combo fields/blast finisher/condition transfer/fear
I like the one in the pics below. Alas, I can’t recall where I got it and I’ve since transmuted it, so I don’t know what its original name was.
That reminds me of the things that lay eggs in people’s stomachs from alien.
Wulfrim.4793Wow….. 16 pages on this thread because of one nerf?
Rangers are babies.
It was a week ago they nerfed it. They said there was not going to be a update this week because of the halloween event. The next scheduled update is 10/22 and for some reason people are crying because it wasn’t changed this week? Makes no sense to me. Go back to other MMO’s and realize there are updates every MONTH rather than week and I’m sure you will come right back to this one. Rangers still really aren’t that bad. The same ranger plays on my tPvP team as did two weeks ago and he still performs his duties to the key.Ever heard of the straw that broke the camels back?
Our weapons are crap, our Pets are bugged, lackluster utilities and our support might as well be non existent even if it doesn’t die. We stuck through it because Shortbow gave us something to work with, we at least had a build that did some damage and if played well could kill something, we could use that while we waited until they got round to fixing the Ranger. Instead of fixes we got a nerf to our Ranger and was lied to about it. Now the Ranger has nothing, our hopes that Anet knows what they are doing and are a decent company died with it.
If they had no plans for a patch this week then maybe they shouldn’t have released a bug ridden patch nerfing the only good thing about one of the classes the week before.
Do you realize the time it takes to implement a change in a MMO? Quite a bit. Considering they release a patch every week that doesn’t leave much time for testing. They have a tight schedule to work with and if things are really more than they intended it will be fixed. This game will be out for YEARS. Stop whining over two weeks. Other games release a patch that breaks a class and players have to wait a MONTH before that patch was ‘taken back’ Like I said ranger still performs just as well as other classes. Tell yourself its a skill problem, the problem being your lack of it, even if you believe different. It sure as hell will make you a better player than telling yourself the class is broken and nothing can be done about it.
That is impressive and I recommend making a video.
A few notes: It is possible you weren’t up against a real competitive team. In the current tpvp the majority of match ups are really bad pugs and maybe 2 out of 20 matches are really good ones. The only problem is by the time you reach a ‘good match’ your team is so use to messing around and still winning you aren’t prepared and may lose. I recommend joining a pvp server and a tpvp guild and synchronizing your queuing so you go up against each other.
Also Tornado cooldown is 180 seconds with a duration of 15 seconds and a cast time of 1 second. I’m assuming you are either spamming the knockback or the blind on the tornado. A guardian can have 8 seconds of stability on a 30 second cooldown, making the knockback only work for 7 of the 15 seconds. A necromancer can have 3 seconds of stability every 6 seconds, allowing him to apply it twice during the tornado, negating 6 seconds of the actual tornado knockback. The damage from tornado can pretty much be ignored but you are also completely exposed during the tornado with no way to defend yourself from ranged classes. Thieves? Yes. Condition necromancers, Rangers, Mesmers, Rifle Warriors, Engineers? No.
Wulfrim i ’ am ok with you but , all team isn t the same , with a elementalist you can vs all team , but you cannot but all team vs other class .
now you tell a thief kill elementalist ….
but i am elementalist and 1 vs 1 i kill all thiefs .
a thiefs cannot one shoot a tanky elementalist ! and if thief cannot kill a elementalist in 5 seconde maximum . it s a thiefs dead
You must be foreign haha.
Yes all teams are different. My point wasn’t that a team should have this class, this class and this class. My point is a team needs this position, this position, this position. If you don’t have a bunker build, at least ONE bunker build on your team I’m sorry but you just aren’t going to win. If your one bunker is a elementalist then I’m afraid you aren’t going to win because a guardian can just knock him off the point, place a wall to neutralize it and outlast the elementalist. They heal for more, have more toughness, roughly the same amount of health, better condition removal, longer boons, more damage. They excel in everyway compared to a bunker elementalist. Yes a thief vs a bunker elementalist would probably lose, but thieves job isn’t to take down a bunker. That’s what the group of two is for. If a bunker elementalist is roaming then hes not really supporting his team at all.
What makes the guardian bunker so appealing is he can maintain retaliation and protection for a very long time AND heal himself several different times with enough crowd control(walls and knockdowns/knockbacks) to neutralize a captured point. He also has a downed state that can delay an opponent from finishing him off, buying his team time to recapture the point or help.
-Elementalist can only keep protection up for a long time, the other boons he can keep up are purely offensive. Elementalist has no useful downed state ability. In fact if they go into mist form while downed it gives the opponent FIVE extra points. A bug that desperately needs fixed.
What makes a necromancer a good bunker is he can keep protection and retaliation up. He has two life bars, life force if used properly pretty much makes it so you have to kill the necromancer three different times. He can turn opponents boons into conditions making him very effective for removing bunker guardians (the most common bunker) he can then transfer his conditions to his enemies (the most common bunker counter). He also has fears to remove and neutralize points and chill is just plain annoying. Not to mention the over 20 stacks of vulnerability one necromancer can apply to a opponent.

It is kind of funny. In the game everyone thinks everyone else is OP. In the forums everyone thinks everyone is UP. In sPvp everyone is like zomg warriors are so OP. In tPvp no one wants a warrior on their team. Why? Because both hundred blades and kill shot are super easy to dodge.
Does this thread meet the quota for the week? Can we go back to being realistic?
Explain to me why necromancer is bad rather than making generic pointless statements?
Is it not what you envisioned when you picked necromancer? Create a new MMO and make a necromancer however you want.
Do you get beat up a lot in pvp? Clearly I don’t, nor do countless people in youtube videos filming full matches. Must be the class right?
When a tPvP needs a elementalist or is actively seeking one I’ll be convinced they are good.
I like how he ignored my comment because he knows I hit the nail on the head :P
Alright I’ll clarify a bit.
In Tournament pvp you want a team with at least one bunker build, sometimes two. The current meta of pvp is all about the bunker builds. A bunker build is someone who can stay on a point while people just attack them and they will keep the enemy off the point, so they can’t cap it and stay alive. Yes a elementalist can do alot of things at once, but so can every class. That’s how this game was designed. Every class can do alot of things at once. Currently the widely believed best bunker build out there comes from the Guardian. I disagree. I believe necromancer is the best bunker out there and soon will be the new meta of bunkers. A elementalist can build tanky, but doesn’t last anywhere near as long as a necromancer or a guardian and can’t push people off points near as well as necromancers or guardians. So why would I take a elementalist for a bunker position?
Then there is spike damage. Mesmers and thieves hold the top position for spike damage. They can do a massive amount of damage in a very short amount of time. They travel with groups to remove bunkers and other players. If a elementalist can’t do spike damage as well as a mesmer or thief why would I take one to a competitive enviornment?
Then there are roamers, roamers are very good at 1v1. They pick people off as they are spawning, grab people inbetween points, kill the chieftain and svanir, kill the guild lord. Currently the best roamers are rangers, engineers, necromancers and thieves. Elementalist are good at 1v1 but not as good as the classes mentioned above. A elementalist also has a big weakness to thieves, which is this meta’s most common roamer. If a elementalist gets jumped by a thief they only have seconds to react before its too late. Why would I take elementalist when other classes do those things better?
Also you need a 2 person team. This is the duo that goes to take points, usually one is a spiker (read above) and the other has good synergy with the spiker. Engineers offer good team support, thieves are a must with their stealth/revive ability, rangers are good for the AoE damage on traps. If there is anyone reason to bring a elementalist it would be here, but they don’t have very good synergy with other players. They work better alone. They can remove conditions with water attunement from allies, but if you put a necromancer in this spot the allies wont get the conditions to begin with. They can heal allies with water attunement but if you bring a engineer you can have even more boons than a elementalist can offer on allies.
My point is yes a elementalist can do a lot of things, but so can every other class. The biggest problem is in a competitive enviornment other classes do the things people need better.
Edit: Please note sPvp is very different from tPvP. sPvp is mostly a bunch of chickens running around with their head cut off farming points.
Also note that warriors are just as unwanted in tPvp as elementalist but warriors are considered OP in sPvp. It just goes to show you how much things are different in organized pvp.
(edited by Wulfrim.4793)
well, if you say that an axe is better than a dagger in terms of a power build, I’ve been doing something wrong in the last 150 hours.
The auto attack on dagger is more powerful than axe but I don’t plan on ever following someone around and auto attacking them. Axe 2 and 3 are infinitely better than dagger 2 and 3. In a power build I utilize my damage from death shroud. Its not a emergency button, its a “I win” button. I usually just engage with staff, 2, 3, 4 combo to build life force, switch to axe, 2, 3, 4, 5 combo for more life force, retaliation, condition transfer, cripple, blind, weakness, bleeding then switch to death shroud for the auto attack and 2 and 3. Then use 4 when I’m at 70% life force.
Can you back that statement up with any facts at all? What are elementalist game changing at? What sort of hint makes them the new meta? Can they remove the conditions the fastest? No necromancer beats them to that? Can they survive the longest? No necromancer and guardian beat them at that. Can they do consistent good damage while taking a beating? No warrior, mesmer, guardian and necromancer beat them at that. Can they spike really high? Lol.
You get my point? I’m not trying to be rude, but to make a outrageous claim like that with no evidence to back it up is rather pointless.
You do move when you change attunements. Your character lets out a “Freeeeedom” -William Wallace cry and particles float around you. It is a dance. Fire, 2, 3, 4, 5 → Water, 2, 3, 4, 5 → Air 2, 3, 4, 5 → Earth, 2, 3, 4, 5. If my elementalist isn’t dancing then my fingers are. I like attunement dancing. Its catchy. Much more so than attunement swapping, somebody needs to get in touch with their masculinity! Insecurity is a kitten.
I am only really sad about is minion not being good minions. I did not want to play as a condition mancer or a slightly near unkillable clothie but a bloody minion master. Now besides wells having really long reuse times i am happy with those and with conditions skills i am even content but its not what I wanted. I am just stuck with playing a condition mancer since i do not like bunker builds they are boring to play atleast for me.
Besides tons of bugs to be fixed I would love for them to fix minions, most times they sit there, or attack targets I dont care about, or just die super easy because they dont get out of aoes. The aoe dodge programming might actually be very hard to fix so a flat out reduction damage would go a long way or a ton more hp. Next give us a attack this target button which would help at least focus damage on a target. Also make it so they can hit moving targets so they cant be just kited all day like with how I kite ranger pets, actually fix them both so this doesn’t happen.
In what game are minions viable in pvp or wvw mechanics?
WoW – Warlock pet was decent, but not really game breaking and easily handled.
FF11 – Puppetmaster and beastmaster pets really hurt the group and were useless in ballista.
EQ – There was no necromancer, necromancer’s pet was the class.
GW1 – Pet builds didn’t really work in WvW or pvp.
Rift – I’m honestly trying to remember if necromancers got pets, I know they were really bad in any sort of end game enviornment when I played (back when they first released the second raid)
Warhammer – White Lion pets really hurt the class, when they gave the white lion a ability to get rid of it for a buff white lion got better. Squig herder pets were laughable.
Diablo 2 – Not a MMO, so don’t bring it up haha but even so the only pets that were good were the ones you would copy the monster you killed and even they were bad in ubers.
Diablo 3 – Witch doctor pets were extremely bad, you couldn’t even beat nightmare mode with them.
In all MMO history, for the exception of everquest but it came at a big price, minions have never really been good for anything but leveling up and the minions necromancer has in this game are still good for leveling up. I don’t prefer that method but it still works.
I feel like I’m forgetting a really important MMO….. something that had a summoning points system.
Asking for a pet’s AI to be on par with a human’s intelligence is asking for too much. (Even the stupid humans)
Edit: Age of Conan was the MMO I was forgetting, their pets were really good for leveling up but in Pvp they were horrible
(edited by Wulfrim.4793)
Lets see tips:
Gear → Toughness/Condition Dmg
Traits → Earth→Water→Arcane
Skills → Armor of Earth/Lightning Flash/Arcane shield
Gameplay: Pull as much as you possibly can without them rubber banding back to their spawn with Earth 1. Cast armor of Earth or arcane shield or lightning flash a distance away depending on cooldown. Cast Churning Earth, following by shockwave. Everythings dead. Note: This only works until 60. Group 2. Pull everything with earth 1, switch to fire, 2, 3, 4, 5 combo. Switch to lightning 4, 5 combo, switch to water to finish. Then rotate back to group 1 strategy.
After 60 after the shockwave proceed to the fire rotation for each group. If churning earth is on cooldown rotate between fire and lightning until churning earth is off cooldown. Look to circle strafe. Circle strafing is extremely important.
I’m happy with pve ele but that’s it really. They are fun to mess around with in sPvp because you see a lot of people who don’t know what they are doing. I am a skilled player, my elementalist is powerful in pvp. I use D/D but in tPvp there really is no place for me. The current meta is about bunker builds. It will change, it use to be thieves/mesmers burst, but right now its bunker builds. In my experience a elementalist cannot bunker better than a guardian or necromancer and cannot take down a guardian or necromancer faster than other classes so there really is no place for a elementalist in competitive tPvp.
The next complaint I hear a lot is there is no versatility in effective builds. I believe we have three really effective builds that I personally have found. The conditionmancer, we can apply soooo many bleeds so quickly. We can turn their boons to conditions, we can turn our conditions to their conditions. Rangers may do it faster, but we can throw whatever ranger gave us right back at them. After the shortbow nerf I’m not even certain rangers can apply bleeds faster anymore. The bunker build, I explained this a bit above. Our wells provide 5 seconds of blind, 15 seconds of protection, condition removal, boon removal, we have two life bars, several fears, chill. We are one annoying class to take down. And the death shroud power build. Utilizing axe and staff to build death shroud quickly and building into precision and crit damage our death shroud’s auto attack can easily hit 3-4k. If we go into lich form just look out. When comparing to other MMO’s most classes in pvp never have more than 2 effective builds. I’m still discovering new builds and I’ve personally used all three of these in tPvP and sPvp and they work great. When comparing to other classes in GW2 well just look at warrior. If they don’t use a rifle or a greatsword in one of their weapons they are kittening themselves. Guardians maybe have two, bunker and hammer. Elementalist really only have one effective pvp build. Engineers are…. complicated to put it nicely. Thieves really only have one now, backstab. Rangers have to use shortbow to be useful in pvp. We are not as limited compared to others as you think.
Now lets talk about WvWvW. I believe necromancer really shines in WvWvW. We have access to so many AoE and in my opinion thats all WvWvW really is. Throw down your marks, throw down your wells transform to lich form or death shroud, hit 4 and that’s about it. We have pretty decent 1v1 ability but not the best. Until they implement dueling I don’t think 1v1 is important, considering every pvp event in this game is team based I don’t think you should 1v1 unless you are confident in your abilities (as I am with mine). I’m not really sure how you can argue necromancers aren’t good in WvWvW. We certainly don’t have it the worst. Look at thieves.
Now lets talk about PvE. Dungeons, we have so many combo fields without sacrificing any damage at all. Combo fields are what make classes good in dungeons (and finishers). Dungeons aren’t really hard to begin with, unless you pug poor players. We have extensive range to stay out of danger. We have a lot of survivability. A lot of condition control on allies and enemies. We are very useful for dungeons. Soloing in PvE, well I haven’t reached 80 yet but I do play with necromancers. Wells and Power or conditions and epidemic take down a lot of enemies at once. We can’t kill 1 enemy as fast as a warrior, thief or guardian, but we can kill 6 enemies at once faster and safer.
All in all, I think necromancer is fine in every aspect of the game. Yes we have bugs, every class has bugs. Just be patient and the bugs will go away. Enjoy what you do have, a amazing class.
A good thing to do to improve your own skill is to not assume the class is broken but assume your own skill is lacking. Even if its not true, believe it is. This will help you play better and learn more. Going from a elementalist to a necromancer really made me a better player.
(edited by Wulfrim.4793)
It honestly shocks me you feel this class is underperforming. I have several issues to cover so first I’ll start with bug fixes.
It should be noted that Anet has reliably given us a patch every WEEK. In my years of playing MMO’s I have never seen a free to play company offer a patch a week. Even when Final Fantasy XIV crashed and burned and they vowed to fix the game they only offered content change every month. In one week it may not seem like they made alot of changes but if you look through the whole month its not too shabby. Just let them work and they will get to all the bugs. Just because your priority of bugs differs from theirs doesn’t make them anymore or less wrong. They started fixed bugs that let you cast without line of sight or even facing the target. That seems pretty important to me, a bug like that could be exploited to soloing just about anything not ranged in PvE. Just keep calm and chive on. They will get to all the bugs. Its a weekly update, not a monthly one so don’t feel overwhelmed if they didn’t fix it this week. I personally believe the class is already fine and I think areanet agrees with me.
Second is the sPvp/tPvp. Yes my signature says my necromancer is only level 40, after you get your first character to 80 there isn’t too much motivation to get another one to 80. I am also rank 29 in sPvp and roughly 50% of my games are necromancer so I do in fact know the necromancer. I read a lot of complaints on how a necromancer cannot do anything better than anyone else. This is such a boring vague complaint and it’s also very incorrect. In my experience in tPvp there isn’t anyone who can hold a point better than a bunker necromancer. People argue guardian is better at it and I can respect their arguments because guardian is very good at it. There are also more guardians than necromancers but in my opinion nothing can beat a bunker necromancer. It takes 2-3 players to take one down and if they do use 2 or 3 players then they are expending too many resources for a single point. Also keep in mind a necromancer should beat a guardian 9 times out of 10. We have so many skills to counter everything they do. Currently they rely on ‘walls’ and boons to bunker. We counter boons and walls don’t really effect the ranged. tPvP is all about the bunkers in this current meta. It will change, it use to be bursting thieves and mesmers, then it went to bunker guardians and now I believe the meta is moving to bunker necromancers.
I generally have my right click mouse almost always held in to move the camera and that makes the mouse invisible so it makes fast cast too difficult and inconvienent for me.
I never liked warhorn. Generally my strategy is to have two seperate cooldowns. Group one gets hit by double wells and staff 2, 3, 4. Group two gets hit by dagger 4, dagger 5, DS enfeebling blood, DS 4, staff 2 and staff 3 if its off cooldown. That way by the time I get to group three the wells are off cooldown.
People complain a necromancer can’t kill a single monster as fast as a warrior, thief and guardian but a necromancer CAN kill 5-6 monsters the exact same time it can kill one while a thief, warrior and guardian cannot.
If you are referring the thing in options for ground targeting I don’t use it but its really up to preference. I find it more important that my marks and wells land exactly where I want them. If you are precise with the mouse then it would be worth it, each spell would save you a fraction of a second and every second counts in pvp.
Its not cumalative its multiplicative. 4 seconds +10% is 4.4 seconds, then +5% of that is 4.66 then +5% of that is 4.99 which is 5 seconds. Assuming its 4.5 seconds that would mean 10% is 4.95, 5% more is 5.2ish and 5% more is 5.5ish.
But if the base bleed is 5 seconds then 5.5, 5% more being 5.8~ and 5% more being 6.1~
Ah sorry, I’m a elitist and I’m always looking for new builds. I was just posting my feedback on this one. Good luck!
I watched the video, or well the first half of it and sorry for all the negative feedback but it seems like the minions are actually hindering your build. For one, the people in the video you are up against are extremely poor players. That mesmer just kinda sat there and took whatever you threw at him. If I had to guess that had to be his first three games as a mesmer. The guardian was literally attacking your minions multiple times. Still, even against really poor opponents your minions spent just as much time on cooldown as they did on the field from dying. I think if you got rid of the minions, changed your spec a bit and grabbed well of suffering and well of corruption or even the standard plague signet spectral skills you would have more success. Just my two cents.
Also the flesh wurm has a 1200 range on the teleport, that’s not far enough to teleport between points.
The shadow fiend is 1 attack blind, that’s not enough to stop thieves or warriors and there is a large delay between the time you press it and the time the shadow fiend finishes his magazine and teleports to the target, has coffee with the target and blinds him.

I plan on switching to scepter when I reach 80, as that’s my preferred build in tPvP but is it really the fastest at 40, 50, 60 and 70?
It seems the majority of your skills are single target. You have the AoE from the staff to start the fight, which is ~30 second cooldown. Then you switch weapons, AoE bleed which is only 6 seconds at 40, 7 with the trait. Then the dodge which is another 2 stacks. So you are looking at 5 stacks of bleed in a 7 second cooldown AoE and 7 on your main target. Then you enter DS which is AoE enfeebling blood on a 10 second cooldown for 6 stacks of bleed, 8 on the main target. Where does the other 7 come from?
I’m not sure your method for leveling but I prefer to pull as many monsters as I can and AoE them all down, which is what I’ve been doing with wells. I can see being able to do that with epidemic but you don’t use epidemic.
Note: I’m not trying to degrade your post, I always just argue the opposite to get the best results.
If you like minion master you may like mesmer. They are like the kung fu panda army with the actual mesmer being the dragon warrior.
Hey everyone. I’ve been playing necromancer for a rather long time. Currently rank 29 in sPvp with 60% of my matches being necromancer. I decided to take another long journey to 80 but this time using a necromancer. I’ve been using a wells build 1-40 focusing purely 100% on power. I use dagger/dagger and staff, Well of Corruption, Well of Suffering and Signet of the Locust (don’t need well of darkness to stay alive). I generally stay in staff main hand, using the 3, 4 combo field/blast to get a nice spike of damage and the auto attack to hit everything in a line. It does impressive damage. I switch to D/D to single target anything left over and to apply a AoE bleed from rune of geomancery.
Now that I hit 40 and I have access to major runes (big change lol) I was wondering if it would be faster to continue to spec into power/precision and use wells or would it be faster to spec into condition damage/precision and use scepter/dagger and staff. If you went scepter, besides epidemic which skills would you pick?
I’m not worried about survivability at all, necromancer has far too many tricks to die in PvE. I’m just trying to find the fastest way to level. Thanks in advance!
Yes I’ve played engineer. The point I’m trying to make is EVERY class thinks they are the worst class at everything.
Have you tried reading any other classes’ forums? Every single person (including mesmers, warriors and guardians) think their class is the most underpowered terrible damage dealer in the game. You just need to get out of the EQ mentality. There is no DPS, there is no tank, there is no healer. There are classes. Each class is capable of doing everything, but not one particular thing. Ranger is fine. The SB debuff could have been unintentional and the Dev team is currently looking into it, as they have stated. Before complaining I recommend reading other posts.
I thought this, too. In fact I came here with the hope that this was true. Its not. The Ranger is the most horribly broken class in this game – from their pets not able to attack and move at the same time to their rooting chain of their sword to their underwhelming ranged capability. Warriors and thieves are able to out damage a ranger at range and destroy them in melee.
With such reliance on their damage coming from their buggy and lightweight pets, the Ranger is the worst profession in the game. Take your mesmer whining elsewhere.
Have you tried Engineer? Half their kits are considered ‘useless’ They have even more inferior damage at range than a mesmer. They are pidgeonholed into a single build using grenades or are useless. I bet a scepter guardian can out damage them in ranged combat. Their bombs require enemies to stand still and they aren’t allowed to use weapon swapping sigils.
Have you tried elementalist? Their good ranged aoe skills have longer cast times than anything. Their res ability has a 3 second cast and only works on downed players. They have horrible elites, horrible damage.
Have you tried necromancer? They apply conditions slower than ranger and are suppose to be the condition kings. They remove conditions slower than guardian and mesmer. They have no good aoe damage abilities. Their fear is shorter than a ranger’s pet.
Have you tried guardian? Their ranged damage is lacking to be polite. They only have 18k HP at best. Glass cannon builds make them die very fast due to their innate low health. Their retaliation debuff they just recieved shuts down several builds.
Hey look at that. I just made a whole bunch of classes sound really bad.
If I had to guess your lack of performance in the pvp world is more because of lack of skill than a underpowered class. Take the next twenty minutes. Read over the other forums, learn from the classes what you can and react apropriately, also take notice how everyone thinks they are underpowered. Don’t give me the “Well if xx does this how are you suppose to react” because on paper everything looks amazing and acting like ranger doesn’t have any good abilities is just plain ignorant. Stop assuming the class is broken and start assuming your skill is lacking. It will get you much further. Or just take option B, quit the game, stop trolling the forums and rid us of your negativity.
Edit: Also I recommend watching youtube videos on more skilled rangers and how they don’t take forever to take down a class and CAN kill thieves.

Have you tried engineer? They can’t kill anyone at range. I bet a scepter guardian could take down a rifle engineer.
On paper everything looks good. I mean warriors don’t have a single good ability at all that does anything useful for them. -rolls eyes-
There aren’t any capture points without line of sight obstacles. You can effectively ‘dodge’ in Moa, even though it looks kitten You can also daze as a moa for 2 seconds. It’s always funny to get Moa’d then instantly daze them.
