I already have two Asura, two Humans and two Sylvari (one of which is my main) so probably Charr or Norn since I only have one of those.
I was so hoping to play a Tengu one. A strong winged warrior who in his personal story broke with the philosophy of his fellows and joined the other races in the fight to save his world but… `sniff’. I understand why there isn’t a new race but eventually Anet is gonna have to bow to the pressure and make the Tengu playable with their lands split into two new 1-15 & 15-30 zones. I just so want that!
In the end my race of choice will heavily depend upon the backstory I give him or her. So yes, I am an RP’er.

They wouldn’t be the only class to get a 1-h or off-h new weapon. Mesmer is getting shield and I suspect Elementalist is getting sword. (squee!)
Maybe Anet makes up for the new 1-h/off-h by giving those classes a few extra new utility skills or another elite skill.
If you are going to say confirmed in your title you have to have some developer statement, interview or video on the subject.
Some people seeing a light armored character with a sword in one hand and a blurry bit that could be a dagger but just as likely is part of their armor is NOT a confirmation.
But here’s hoping. I want to make a swordmage so bad!
It’s clear the event only skimmed the surface of whats new. Rytlock obviously wields a spear so that’s likely a new one. There may be others.
I think we’re gonna have to wait perhaps until the summer convention season for the real details.
I doubt it personally. A major theme of the game in the past many months is spreading the community out. The mega-server system, the new daily system, etc are all in the game to help spread the community to the various mid-level zones.
So I think Masteries will most than likely involve content in the entire game, not just the new stuff.
There’s clearly a LOT that was left out of the announcement. There’s only so much information you can pack into an hour and a half talk. They didn’t go into very much detail about anything.
So things like dungeons or even a new race ‘may’ still be possible as we learn specifics. It’s unlikely and I am disappointed that we won’t get playable Tengu. But if not this expansion, they better be in the next!
Unless it’s a misuse of the word, ‘Specializations’ would suggest at least 2. How can you call something a ‘specialization’ if every class has one path of upgrade? Wouldn’t that simply be something everyone gets? That’s not specialization, that’s just advancement.
And switching between the two (assuming) would be nice. Certainly that is part of the ongoing theme of GW2 that your never locked into any one thing.
So personally I’d be really surprised if there’s only one single Specialization.
I think it’s better to unlock the first trait at 20, and every 5 levels after that with 2 at 80, 14 traits right on the dot with 2 for hitting cap. That lets characters start playing around with traits at lower levels (one major trait by 25) and is much more coherent than 1 per 6 levels and then 2 after level 66.
Unless we are missing something. There very much could be a viable reason to have traits truckle out starting at 30 at 6 level intervals. After all there are a dozen + blog updates before this comes out that could very well explain the reasoning.
Oh and props for having traits unlock by achieving things in the game world. The one thing I miss the most from GW1 was going out and taking on challenging content to get the Elite Skills I wanted most.
Are you kidding, the new Meteorlogicus looks amazing. The footfalls are kinda ‘meh’ but the new fx, day/night cycle, the sunlight effect, is so cool. It makes me, someone who hasn’t even considered going after a Legendary, want to for the first time!
Individual or guild recognition would only lead to (even more) elitism. So IMHO there shouldn’t be any.
You know, since you can change the dye on your gear at any point, it’d be easy to just work up a ‘day’ and ‘night’ color scheme. Once you get it down it’d take seconds to switch it up.
Hell, people’d probably think your cool for changing with your weapon.
I think a lot of people are missing something. First, there was no mention of RNG so you are assuming when you suggest it will. Second, people are saying it will take them x-months to produce even one weapon for all their lvl 80 characters. Today’s introduction on crafting ascended weapons showed that crafting one component item has a timer, so one of each can be crafted once a day. Folks are assuming that this means once ‘per account’ which again, wasn’t even hinted at. In all likelihood it’ll take two weeks ‘per character’ to craft a weapon.
Now, I’m not saying that time-gated crafting or content isn’t agrivating. There should be multiple ways to obtain ascended items. New dungeons or group content that leads to tickets ala the current dungeon skins should be an option at the very least as getting to 500 crafting alone appears to be a huge time and money sink as it is. But frankly people are making massive assumptions to exacerbate the situation and that simply doesn’t belong in the conversation.
I’m confident that Anet will listen to the player bases opinions on this, they usually do. But making things up or blatantly assuming that things are worse than they may actually be doesn’t help.
I’ve been doing D/D 0/30/0/10/30 myself (PvE) and having a lot of fun with it. Soldier/Cleric gear (zerker weapons). It’s got solid survivability thx to all that Toughness and destroys kitten compared to pre-patch D/D Ele.
Trying to create a new password and for some reason no matter what I use, no matter if it’s 8 or 30 characters long, I keep getting the “Must Be 8 Characters Long” error. Is this a known issue? Are there limitations I don’t know about, no spacing, no characters (#^@, etc)?
I’m using Chrome so maybe that’s an issue. I can’t login until I figure out my problem so..
HALP!
Edit: Problem solved, wasn’t accepting characters.

Ah the obligatory ‘this event sucks’ thread. You cant please everyone right?
Then again I also seem to remember a dozen of these on the first day of the Halloween event. ‘This is all?’ ’It’s boring’ ‘RNG SUCKS!’
For the record I bought 10 winter’s day chests (IMHO well worth my $10) and got the snowman mini. So I don’t mind if I can only make two others cause I only really wanted the Snowman, the golem and (I hope its possibly) the quaggen.
Oh wait a second.. didn’t just about all of the folks who posted their disappointment completely turn that opinion around after a few more days? Yep.. I think they did. But clearly some of them didn’t learn their lesson.

The simple fact is, if you die and are broke, you will be able to use the nearest waypoint for free.
World events are typically the most enjoyable activities in MMOGs. Whether they be active GM run events of old school MMOGs or the precursor events that World of Warcraft often has before a new expansion comes out, such as the elemental rifts before Cataclysm.
So I’m very happy to see a strong use of them in Guild Wars 2. So far every content patch released has had a world event story-arch to go along with them. These events in my mind were both challenging, extremely fun and rewarding. They have helped greatly in making the game feel alive and flowing, with events that have changed Tyria in a variety of ways.
After a spectacular finale of the Karka story-arc I just had to post about how much I’ve enjoyed both world events and how much I’d like to thank Anet for making them. I can only hope that this ‘trend’ will continue, that each new content patch to hit comes with a world event story-arc that we can all participate in. Nothing makes an MMOG feel more organic and alive and so far Anet has hit them out of the park in my mind.
So thank you Anet. I cant wait to see what’s next!
Why do all these ‘my server is dead!’ posts come up on monday mornings when everyone is at work or school?
I’m thinking Anet needs to find a way to keep this forum open to only those who actively play the game. To many trolls who haven’t played since the first week spending all their time on the forums screaming about crap.
‘Arah group lf dps, elementalist would be nice’.
I’ve yet to see a post that positively remarks about the new dungeon, and it’s rather odd. Look at the details, 9 fractal dungeons where your group faces 3 at random, with a giant boss in between. The dungeon actively remembers your level of play and increases the difficulty dynamically. It also scales with your level, giving level 80’s the greatest challenge while still being rough for lower lvls.
I just love the fact that in this MMOG you don’t have to hit level cap to enjoy some really challenging dungeons.I think 9 dungeons in one is an amazing idea that takes the 3-route explorable idea and jumps with it. Add to that the ‘fractal boss’ that only pops every other time you run the dungeons gives something to look forward to for those who really enjoy ‘working toward’ the toughest encounters.
So lets discuss this dungeon, how awesome it is going to be (or not, if you feel that way). Agony or Ascended gear aside for once.
Well, considering legendary weapons actually have the same stat. allocation as exotic weapons…
Legendary Weapon = Exotic Weapon
Therefore, Legendary Armor = Exotic Armor.Doubt there’s going to be any difference, apart from aesthetics. And as always, hope you play a heavy-armor class, ’cause warriors/guardians are going to get the cream of the crop.
Legendary weapons are being ‘scaled up’ to Ascended gear stats, and the last blogpost very much suggested we’ll see legendary gear besides weapons at some point, though I personally hope they aren’t quite so hard to get, considering getting 12 pieces of armor + jewelry (potentially) would take FOREVER lol.
For me, so long as Ascended/Legendary is the cap, I’m good. Also I’m hoping Agony is only used in the ‘high end’ dungeons and the % of resistance you can build up on gear is rather low. Anything requiring say 150 resistance and each piece of gear gives +10 = a gear treadmill in my book.
In the end I trust Anet. So I have a ‘wait and see’ attitude for now.
Sales aren’t meeting their expectation.
I don’t know where people are getting this idea that the game isn’t selling, when every measure out there says it is still doing great. The game is consistently in the top 10 pc games sold on Amazon, often top 5 and the UK PC sales charts it is #4 this week and top 5 on Greenmangaming.com. And that is with a ‘tun’ of new games out and coming out in the next week+, from Football Manager to Hitman, AC3, N4S Most Wanted, Halo 4, Darksiders II and Black Ops 2, not to mention XCOM: EU, Borderlands 2, Dishonored and Torchlight 2 all still selling very well. It is a crowded field, and GW2 is doing great, it’s outselling the new WoW expansion on every list above as well and if it was on Steam it’d have been top 10 every week for the last 2.5 months.
Bro, you want an evidence why this game ISN"T doing great?
I happen to have a ton.
But here, I’ll just give you one, because I have said this times and times again but people dont seem to listen.
If the game is doing FINE, everything is all well and good, Anet isn’t losing players rapidly, why are they going back on their words and introduce a new tier of armor with better stats?
Because they want to pizz off the majority to cater the minority?
No.
Because they’re not doing fine. Because the actual majority is getting bored.
Other wise, they would not have made this change, would they?PS. If they’re selling so well, it’s probably because people heard about the new expansion.
Oh I rather think it’s likely do to people, you know.. ‘asking for it’. Hard to believe, an MMOG company giving people what they ask for.
I think I’ll take my statistical evidence over your conjecture.. but to each their own.

On topic, I have faith that Anet will stick with their promises and their design goals and that Ascended gear and Agony won’t be nearly the problem people make it out to be, especially if it is only useful in one dungeon.. and even then only necessary in the deeper, much more challenging ‘levels’.
Hah.. I have faith in an MMOG company. There really is a first time for everything ah?

He got it. He was logged into the NCSoft system, logged in with GW1/2 info and got it. Thx Gaile.
I’ve begun to send out keys, got one out to a friend who created his account and is ready to go but he says there is no Download option yet. So I wanted to check and find out if the DL is ready yet and he’s having an issue or it just isn’t available yet.
Thanks in advance.
People are going a little overboard here. All we know is that this new dungeon will contain Ascended Armor that has higher stats than Exotic armor. It seems to me this armor will be on the same level as Legendary Weapons, IE about 10 point boost over exotics stat wise. Haven’t people been asking for Legendary equivalent Armor? Seems to me this is the answer.
I’m glad they are adding a deep, multi-tiered dungeon for those who really love dungeons, and having Legendary equivalent armor available is IMHO, a good thing. I just hope they are fairly hard to obtain. Perhaps not the mind numbing grind and money sink that is the Legendary formula, but hopefully hard enough to give prestige to those who like such things, but like Legendaries, not necessary in the least, and with a stat increase that has very little impact in WvW.
Can we stop screaming that the sky is falling already?
This is what we get after a decade of MMOGs offering everything up on a silver platter. Everything is faceroll, click your 3 macros while watching television in MMOGs anymore. GW2 brings back the great challenge of dungeons from the early days of MMOGs, content that requires skill and team work and intimate knowledge of your profession and while some of us praise Anet for their fantastic dungeons, others cry out that they are broken, horribly designed messes. Yes, everyone has their own opinion and to each his own but my god this is what we should expect after the popularity of EZ-Mode MMOGs.
Now, I’m not bashing on the OP entirely, so here are some tips;
1: Don’t do pug dungeons accept perhaps story mode because early on at least you’re likely to get people who don’t know how dungeons work and get trashed, repeatedly. Find a guild that likes to run dungeons and go with them. You’ll learn a lot and discover the dungeons are ‘very’ fun and many extremely well designed.
2: There is no tanking, and no macro mashing. You have to stay on your feet, aware of your surroundings and know your class and learn the fight for each boss and encounter.
3: Have a little patience, enjoy the challenge. Attitude changes everything early on. You should expect to get your kitten handed to you the first time or two you run explorable mode of any dungeon.
To each their own. I personally love the armor in this game. It is both natural looking (for the most part) and the number of crazy fantasy spikes, 6’ shoulders, etc is limited dramatically. I hated that stuff from WoW. Some prefer that, I prefer armor that looks semi-natural and realistic.
Yes early on the variation in armor sets isn’t very strong, but if you know where to look you can find some pretty cool looking armor even at level 30. There are many ways to get pretty good looking lower level armor. From crafted, karma sets, heritage armor (from GW1), cultural sets (though expensive they generally look fantastic), dungeon armor (though the pre-80 sets all look alike) and random drops that can look pretty good too.
My lvl 14 Asura necro looks ‘completely’ different from my 27 Human Mesmer. The necro is wearing the t1 crafted set, Embroidered and the other is wearing mostly the Seraph Issue set from Kessex Hills.
Oh very much yes. But then again I haven’t spend $60 on the game, I’ve spent $190 including CE and $40 in gems over the last 2.5 months and I ‘still’ consider it well worth the money I’ve put in, especially considering I’d have spent more by now if it were a P2P + Microtransactions game like so many others are these days. Even WoW you could easily consider to be both.
I’m a fairly casual gamer, but I still find myself logging in and having fun. I probably put in an hour or two every few days, not a lot by any means but with the glut of amazing games we’ve had this fall, Torchlight 2, Borderlands 2, FTL, Dishonored, XCOM: EU and of course GW2, thats all I can spare! Though granted I haven’t bought all of the above yet (my wife would kill me!) but I plan to soon hehe.
I also have yet to hit 80. I’m a slow leveler, I like to do a wide variety of activities in MMOGs, and can go days between level ups (though faster in GW2 because ‘everything’ gives you XP!), but I’m still having a ball. I understand at 80 it becomes a game about grinding, but I suspect thats only really for those that want the best stuff the game has to offer. The coolest, most hard to get armors, a legendary weapon, etc. I’ll likely never go after some of that stuff.
For me level cap will mean WvW with my guildies, doing an explorable mode now and then with friends just for the challenge (I have yet to do any dungeons actually and my main is lvl 42.) That and by the time I get to 80 I’m sure there will be plenty of stuff to do thanks to content patches, even doing zones I haven’t touched hehe. Heck even the zones I have done, I’m sure I missed stuff. Sometimes I find really cool little nooks that are hidden on the map and I’m sure I’ve missed some. I’ve also only found a handful of jumping puzzles and none of the real big ones so I’ll be trying to find them as well.
Can I just add that I am so happy this game has a variety of zones at different level ranges. I am an explorer and altoholic at heart so I really.. really hate MMOGs with only one zone per lvl range (per faction usually). Add to that the static nature of other MMOG advancement and anyone can understand why no MMOG since TBC WoW had held my interest for more than a month, two at ‘best’. The last big one to come out, you know the one with lightsabers, the static and enclosed nature of that game, with one zone per level range and static zones at that.. barely lasted me the 13 days of pre-launch. I’ve always thought it was my problem that I hopped MMOGs so frequently. GW2 thankfully has solved that problem.
GW2.. beyond worth that initial investment.

I personally still find it baffling that people are ‘still’ referring to some professions as ‘melee’ and others as ‘ranged’.
At least on Tarnished Coast, Fields of Ruin is perhaps the most bugged zone I’ve encountered as of yet. My main is level 37 and I have about half of the zone completed but I have come across five bugged DEs, group events, etc. Several DE’s with goals that are unachievable because they don’t spawn or are bugged and don’t count. Two skill challenges that are bugged and unachievable (and I am told there are others as well).
I really enjoy this zone. Ever since I read Ghosts of Ascalon I could not wait to explore Ebonhawk, check out the Dragonbrand. But at every turn I find something broken in the game, it’s driving me nuts and certainly driving me away from the zone. I was hoping to save other zones for alts, but at this rate that isn’t going to happen. Though I could just WvW or craft to 40.
One of the major problems of having a zone with so many bugged events is that event chains are at a stand still. I can spend an hour and do ‘maybe’ two DEs, and most likely they are the same ones I’ve done four times before because they are the only ones that work. It makes the zone feel so very empty.
I just hope it isn’t a common problem going forward. I understand Orr has some issues, but I’m a slow leveler so I expect many to be fixed by the time I get there. I may just work on an alt or three (yea.. altoholic haha) while they fix things.
In the end I’m making this thread in hopes that Anet realizes the zone needs work and fixes things. It’s a very interesting zone with a lot of lore behind it. But right now it’s just not very easy to do and I really hope that changes.
Doesn’t Healing Power affect your personal heal? If you feel you aren’t getting enough I’d recommend boosting yours. Even a small bit 10-20 points can be helpful.
No need to buy them, Gw2 will feature consistent free content updates and in-game events going forward. Our goal is to make it so you get more from Gw2 for free than you get from a game you pay a subscription for.
On top of a large amount of free bonus content, we will be expanding on offerings in the Black Lion Trading Company going forward, as well as be doing large-scale expansion content down the road.
We’ll cover a lot of the details on the kind of support and plans we have in place over the next month or so on the Gw2 blog and with our press partners.
We do appreciate that you’d like to buy lots of new content, but we’d prefer to give a lot of it to you for free, cause that’s what we think a responsible MMO company does!
All of a sudden I’m all warm and fuzzy inside.
hugs for Anet.
Air has always been my favorite attunement. I use S/D and my build used to have 25pts into Air, but even so the higher level I get, the more disappointed I am with the attunement. While many of the skills are useful, the dps of Lightning Strike and Arc Lightning is absolutely pathetic. Even with a crit build the crits do less than the base damage of Fire. 30 seconds of slowly ticking away health or 2 seconds with a Dragon Tooth – Fire Touch – Arcane Blast spike.
The thing is, in BWE1 I had great fun with S/D air, after the Ele nerf I do most my damage in Fire or Earth and only switch to Air for the off chance need to blind, which isn’t often since Scepter earth has a 10 second multi-hit blind with only a slightly longer cooldown. That or for RtL/Updraft. Half the time I only use Air attunement to get around more quickly. It’s rather disappointing.
I love the Ele but Air is night and day compared to how it was during the first beta weekend.

S/D PvE high burst.
Dragon Tooth – Pheonix – Fire Touch – Arcane Blast
Arcane spells are instant cast, so you can get them off while casting others. If I’m in trouble, fighting multiple enemies I’ll often use this combo to quickly down one or two.
Frankly, I prefer Lightning but the dps just isn’t there.
Also for larger groups I enjoy using Earth. Often I’ll Earth Quake – Arcane Shield – Churning Earth. Most folks cant stand Churning Earth but it stacks bleed like mad and with the right build, Earth is extremely potent.

Yep Rzep, which is why I pay more attention to the user score (though that too can be purposefully swayed by developers, employes and hired firms). For example, Mass Effect 3 is one of the highest rated games in metacritic history, but the user score is below 5 (which I VERY much agree with). GW2’s user score is one of the highest on the site. There are a fair number of negative ones but they are vastly outweighed by the positive reviews.
I’d really like to see an appearance changer item on the Gem Store in the near future. As I play, get new items, get used to a character I very often get the desire to tweak their appearance. Change hair or eye color, facial details, height, etc. Making a gigantic norn sounded cool at first but by lvl 30 or so I realized it had some drawbacks, so I’d ‘love’ if I could gain the ability to alter the character with a one-time use item. Same with my Sylvari Elementalist, I just do not like the eye color I chose for him.
So I think a Gem Store item (with a reasonable cost) to allow you to alter the appearance of a character for say $5 worth of gems would be a popular purchase. Anyone else with me on that one?
Oh of course I didn’t even think about combos. Thx guys
As the title says. I hit 30 with my Ele so I want to do AC and I figure a support build would be most handy. I made a set of 30 gear with +healing on several pieces. But I’m undecided on whether to use Staff or Scepter/Dagger. Both have two heals, and some good conditions (chill, blind, vulnerability, stun, etc). Which do you folks prefer for dungeon support?
Also, whats a decent healing rate to shoot for?
This belongs in a different forum. Still, it is a well known issue, I’m sure Anet knows about it and is hopefully trying to find a way to fix it.
I also prefer scepter/dagger over scepter/focus, primarily because the focus offhand doesn’t have a heal, and dagger does. I know, staff is best for healing but when soloing that extra heal in water is just too handy not to have and I generally dislike staff for soloing.
Just unlocked guild emblem template upgrade in my guild and I was at the guild registrar to create our emblem but what ever I chose it doesn’t show up in the preview window and once I hit accept, it doesn’t show up in the guild ui either.
So is it bugged or am I missing something? Oh.. and yes I am the GM.
