you can’t do what people did in wow because of the structure of this game.

There are no factions nor open world pvp (WvsW is instanced pvp don’t get wrong, i’d not even consider it pvp) so you can’t say let’s fight on this zone , i remember doing it on duskwood in wow and it was fun as hell battle finished when only one faction had people lurking between the trees.

PvP at the entrance of the dungeons, where a group of 5 coordinated guys could kill 40 pve specced guys.

You can’t do this here not even in world vs world because if you want to form a group of 50 it will take ages to enter and this is the worst thing about wvsw you have to fix this.

Gw2 needs a wvw type map but more focused on small scale pvp with attractive rewards to gather, badges for killing people, and even world bosses where guilds should bring a pvp squad to cover the pve guys while they kill it.

Portal has a long cd but blink still has a cd for example (shorter tho) i don’t find it very abusive, the same way we could pester thieves, guardians and eles (not sure) because they have falling damage reduction and that gives you an unfair advantage, it’s all very situational if you have that trait you don’t have another, if you have that skill you don’t have another….

I’d not theorycraft but wait till we see the map and see if that really makes a difference, although if this is planned to be on tournaments since hot join has absolutely nothing to do with tpvp you should add it to the free tournament rotation.

I’m a tpvper and I regularly run into 5 man thief teams and 5 man guardian teams. Not fun.

Never ever happened this to me. And it’s not competitive. Against 5 thief—> Release all your aoe damage, have someone with a mouse with macros to mark the target and you should bring 2-3 down in seconds while they only kitten a maximum of 2.

Against guardians is simple get 2 points abusing 3v1,4v1 on a target and placing a bunker and they won’t be able to remove your bunker from there. (Asuming your bunker has knockback too and uses it wisely)

The issue is that it’s a spammable skill.

Why bring classes that can’t teleport but provide similar damage/bunker abilities. Having classes that can vertically teleport is a direct mobility benefit.

Why bring X over Y if one has far more mobility?

Thats what you say about mesmers and all teams don’t bring one. And i feel portal is far better compared to vertical teleport.

Honestly i prefer a thief than a ele dps.

The real problem is not the thief by himself. I can win them in 1v1 easily because they are one trick ponies. But since they move pretty kitten fast between points they can finish you in a second while you 1v1.

I am specced in a way i am more a holder than a glass canon and i’ve been hit for 7k backstabs + 5k steal + 6k of the rune. 18k is 3/4 of my hp in a second no class can kill me that fast. Worst thing is that it’s a surprise attack so i can’t react to “look i am going to be in a 2v1 situation, escape, cover, use this”

Or we can nerf bot the core and the symtoms everything feels weird. 90% of the thieves are runing this. Thing is that is extremely easy to counter what sucks is that thieves can restealth everytime they want it seems so many ways to stealth and gain initiative, then when you are around 50% hp is simply a heartseeker fest.

I am playing a condition thief which is funny and effective i hope this “i only need 2 fingers to play” build gets so nerfed that becomes unplayable with this purpose and people start being creative.

Lag on Europe

i am happy to see i am not the only one, i’ve been experiencing issues for the last 2-3 days in europe. Thing is that my teamates seemed to do fine i just felt sometimes i lagged and got a frezze for 5-10 seconds to even some minutes, when this happened it was better to alt f4 and launch the game again… this in the middle of a tournament lmao.

Mumble was working fine so i don’t get why gw2 doesn’t …

i still use a staff/sword pistol phantasm build , what has been nerfed is the damage of phantasm specially in 2 ways:

Now you have an extra 5 second cooldown on warlock and duelist, your aoe has a 10 second extra cooldown and warlock shoots less often. This translated means less damage but i still manage to bring down most people and they can’t in 1v1 and hopefully stand long enough 2v1 vs non pure glass canons. 2 thieves kill me in a glimpse but they kill the same way bunker guardians so not an issue.

However, since in 2 days we have a big patch i’d not struggle.

I have a 2’4ghz quad core 4 gb DDR2 800mhz RAM and a nvidia 9500gt (1gb) (80$ i believe) i play tpvp fine with mid-low settings.

i fear a lot more a team with 2 guardians than a team with 2 thiefs (maybe in kylo) , a thief in tpvp is weak in most scenarios i give you 4 common scenarios:

1v1 on a base: Completely up to you, i generally beat them without problems, better if they un condition build though.

2v1 on a base: They kitten you in seconds, which is an expected outcome against skilled players which is the deal of tpvp , a good holder can manage to kill the glasscanon thief and then start an endless 1v1 that benefits the holder due to the stupid nature of holders in this game.

2v2,3v3 large team fight in middle: Their dancing daggers skill is powerful but they do very few, as soon as they are spotted using the bow they are killed swiftly and if they are at melee range… well they probably die from unintended damage…….

Downed state: They would lose almost every simultaneous down state since his downed state is weak if they are alone.

What i find op from thieves is the stealth build where they can go stealth whenever they want even when taking damage, use cloak & sword , backstab , regenerate initiative, come again and you struggling to see them, Because stealth is kittening bugged and by the time you can target them you still can’t see them which is kittening odd.

This added to many stealth issues that surely shouldn’t work like this……

Well Anet should consider that if 90% of the people are running a certain build they should fix it because it smells kitten.

Warrior Rarely Loses in a Downed V. Downed

Mesmer one is quite powerful because clones will remain hiting and the illusonary rogue hits for a big amount i rarely lose a downed state if i die before the other, which is… hilarious oposed to what used to be.

Rogue downed state is very situational, you can port to an unaccesible location and get ressed up there , and you can potentially avoid 2 stomps but i don’t feel is powerful.

Warrior downed state is crap unless you fight downed vs downed because as you said rally pwns…

Hunter feels underpowered in every aspect of the game, elementalist have found builds i’ve yet to see a hunter that can’t be beaten.

Enginner one is mediocre, same as necro.

Elementalists since the patch are a pain in the kitten in tpvp you can flee to get aid, heal to maximum life if the other is crippled… or sit on the point to gain time.

if you are playing hot join gw2 pvp is kittening boring, if you are playing tpvp might be funny but it gets repetitive , specially when you stomp everyone (which is not my case yet) .

This game needs a rank system, a ladder a deathmatch mode and some “fun modes” even the halloween stuff with some tuning can be funny to play.

For PvE Sword + Focus //Staff is the highest damage build. My phantasmal guards are hiting for more than 5k, imagine when i’ve 3 of them out (depends a bit on the boss) cd is low so you can shatter them when their life is low and combine them with the warlock. The sword alone crits for around 1’5k with mediocre gear.

I find it funny to play specially because with the “3” skill you teleport to the boss so you can be operative 100% of time even as a melee.

Hi, i think one of the reasons pvp is becoming boring is because it is very predictable, on every match you will face very similar setups and guardians will be 90% of times bunker specced, thieves are going to be glass canon like a number of times etc…

My idea involves creating new modes, something that they’ll have to do sooner or later since now pvp is stale.

Right now there is an order in tourneys Forest—>Legacy—>Kyhlo specially for the last match due to it’s nature is almost mandatory to bring a mesmer for the trebuchet, a necro to destroy enemy trebuchet and a thief due to their mobility. I am not going to discuss tactics but since first 2 matchs shouldn’t be challenging all the setups think on this last one. A good and simple start would be to randomize the maps.

Secondly right now it’s only a capture point match, which involves more strategy than what you think certainly, but a deathmatch mode, capture the flag or something else should be added. Bunkers on deathmatch mode are pretty useless while on capture the flag 1 is compulsory and at the same time bringing more doesn’t get a benefit.

The idea is that if you design a special tournament mode where you may have to play at kyhlo a deathmach game (maybe you can resurrect 3 times after that you are out definitely) , then a capture the flag in another map and then the current point capture the variety would widen since what works now won’t work anymore in all game modes and people should all wear balanced builds in damage/endurance, making the game more attractive.

No more "we needed 2 minutes to bring him down " nor " i got killed in 2 seconds"

i have seen guardians tank calmly 3 guys and even put out some decent damage (which combined with an eventual 2nd pal would result in an easy 2v3 + node conquered) bug or not this should be fixed. 2v1 is fine, 3v1 means something is broken.

WoW has his flaws, first one is that it has a subscription which was the 1st fact that made me choose Gw2 because i’ve spent around 500€ in wow which is a lot.

2nd fact is that this game was announced as an E-Sport where skill is 100% of the game. I’ve found a PvP that is even worse than wow’s pvp, with no target, no fun, no balance.

3rd fact is that this game was announced as a revolution to PvE, i like both pvp and pve and the pve i’ve found is what i said: Tank & Spank + move from the red circle. In WoW there are pve encounters that are pure bliss, it just seems that programmers here are lazy. The script of some bosses can be done in 10 minutes, instead of so many escort like dungeons that need a tonelade of scripting they could invest their time in a much more efficient way.

i agree, i am hell bored. This game needs 10 person raids with real challenging content, you have the guild to chat mainly guilds should be made in order to advance in the PvE content or to compete in PvP.

Right now all the exploration modes can be done with randoms, ungeared randoms. We need at least 2-3 raids and a new raid every 3 months or so to keep this entertaining. I seriously doubt i buy a new expansion set if by 2 weeks i will be bored again.

What is worse is the difficulty of this game is not well oriented, take Arah for example. Is a wipe fest but you cant control it you’ll be dieing repeteadily unavoidably , resurrecting and zerging again. Same goes for boss fights, very few bosses need an strategie 90% of times is tank + spank and ocasionally using the evade.

Copy wow PvE without tanks and healers and make it really challenging then you’ll have a good pve.

Most classes run faster than a mesmer in some way, this teleporting saves 15 seconds or so, it’s absolutely not OP. I’d understand that you complain when a full team is teleporting through the portal to another point but if you lose to this minor advantage… jesus. If you think is that mandatory, grab a mesmer and conquer the #1th of the world.

This game is that present that is carefully wrapped with bright colors but when you unwrap it you discover that the thing inside, the core, is stale.

They have released very very few high end content to entertain those players who reached level 80, i thank them for not making a chinese grinding game that would take you 2 years to do this, in fact it took me 2 weeks to achieve this and i don’t consider myself a hardcore gamer. PvP is obviously an addon of the game, 3 maps, 1 game mode….. well at least World vs World adds some variey but this is not true pvp but a zerg fest.

In terms of PvE it’s exactly the same, when i first made Ascalon it was like wow game is gonna be hard i am frightened of what i can expect later at 80. Now at 80 with explorable modes… it’s still very easy, i’ve cleaned all the dungeons, not all the paths yet tho. But when i’ve collected all my ideal gear what should i do?¿

Maps are beautiful, exploration with the puzzles might be funny (best innovation and idea of the game is this, the puzzles and events in wvw, hidden chests etc…) but even if i do this in a month max i will have fulfilled all the game… and no, i don’t want a kittening legendary weapon i am not a chinese farmer >.<

This game goes downhill:

Lvl 1-40 Oh my god this is fresh, this is new yeah thats how a mmo should be. “Gogogogog buy this game, is huge”

Lvl 40-80 Meh personal story is fine but hearths and random events are “simple” quests indeed, pick this, kill this etc… ""Game is funny, worth trying mmo"

Lvl 80 “you are basically buying a beta, can’t decide yet if it’s worth or not, wait a bit till purchase”

If they want to make a long term sustainable project they have to care their fanbase because this could become Age of conan 2 in months.

A development of this, right now you have rewards for rank 10,20,30… no concrete rewards. Is simple you rank into the top 500; A blue glow in your armor. You are in the top 100? A red glow, Top 1 team in the world? Gold glow Top2; Silver Top 3 Bronze… aesthetics that identify who actually pwns and who doesn’t.

Rank 70 means you neglected some aspects of the life sitting for hours in front of the computer, does not mean that your e-kitten is bigger. And yes spvp is a lot about e-kitten.

i will be brief. I am 0 motivated to do PvP without a ranking system that gives me rewards tied to the rank. Paid tournaments is free tournaments with better rewards end of the story.

I will write in depth as my first post might not be clear but will not post a wall of text either trying to clarify things i think don’t work.

Bunker builds are becoming excesively popular, you can’t kill alone a bunker nor they can’t kill you if this was a deathmatch would be just boring but you won’t take benefits from it so since this is not exactly funny people would neglect this playstyle.

There’s no effective counter as the 2 sources of damage you have on this game (Direct damage and condition damage) can be dealt with by them. Let’s consider them healers, in other games against healers you have tools like Drain Mana or % healing reduction so that if a player chooses to last indefinitely sooner or later he must stop doing it because he runs out of mana or has to flee because he is taking more damage than he can heal due to this % healing reduced stacked on him.

In Gw2 there’s no mana and there’s no such healing reduction but there is gear to increase endurance and gear to increase healing so?¿ We have a proper healer and there are no ways to counter him. In fact this game attracted me because it stated “no trinity, no healers, no tanks, just dps” surprisingly call it tank , call it healer or a mix of both you have something like this.

My suggestion is to remove the healing on Spvp.

All the mmos killed their pvp scene when people started to use the same setups, as i said rock,scissors,paper only 3 setups viable out of potentially 50, A wins B wins C and C wins A. Eventual D,F,G… setups lose to this 3 in a different degree. In games like WoW this became such a problem that instead of wasting time in a match they will be always behind they left the arena and waited for more suitable teams. On the other hand you had fights against mirror teams (Druid/warrior,Rogue/Priest,Pala/Lock) or between teams that were not a counter from each other that after more than an hour ended by throwing the dices. How sad, isn’t it? This is where gw2 is going to.

There’s no need to theorycraft about this builds i doubt every single bunker guardian or ele is using the same traits, although probably there is a coincidence in the 80% of them but clearly the way to achieve this is stacking as much thoughness, vitality and healing through traits,gear and runes. It’s very simple you don’t depend on a hard to execute combo to make you immune to damage and careful heal timing. There are no silences, there are no casting bars so best thing you can do with your heal is cast it as soon as you can. There is no crowd control, just a necro fear and some minor stuns/snares/roots that don’t count as that and that are dispelleable.

This builds can surely be found on a wiki or in this forums though.

I said necro but this last spot can be filled by every offensive class, necro in my opinion works best due to his heavy aoe damage , mesmer is good too. Keep in mind that necro has been buffed a lot since the 27th august, i find it competitive enough right now.

Edit seeing last post while i was writing this: Since khylo is the last map this kind of setups are worthy since you guarantee a chest.

Hi i was waiting the amazing pvp blog post to see the incredible features that were almost done, nothing new so i assume this is the pvp we will have in 2012, the new year may bring some changes, but i am not going to discuss the blog post because there’s already a discussion.

Ok, tournament pvp has become a scissors, rock, paper pvp style where you only see the same classes , same builds. It looks like the only way to win is stack as much bunker guardians as you can and a necro. 2 Bunker guardians, 1 ele with staff maybe an engineer and a necro is all you need to have 2 points safe while the necro slowly kills all the other team.

Of course you can learn to counter them, if you push the guardians out of the point and controll them you may have a chance but this takes a lot more skill than simply standing on the point and good coordination with the ccs while the other team just faceroll.

If the Esport you promised is everybody playing the same classes and setups it’s ok i’ll play it and see who smash the keys faster, strategy is null.

this is a huge pve nerf, first of all i don’t find mesmers that OP, mark the real one and it will be a real easy fight, people is simply noob. And i think they did the contrary to what they should have done:

-Chaos Storm, only AoE they have, cooldown increased. Cool no counters against stealth and less utility in massive fights. I don’t see how is this op. Nobody is so noob to stand on it for a long time and it is essential in PvE condition builds.

-Chaos Armor, i think the burst of mermers is just equal to almost every class so i’d nerf the survivality in the case it’s necessary, they diminish the cd of this. Cool….

-Illusions, there are some illusions that are very weak, some can be destroyed by a single swing now people instead of figuring out who is the real one will go for the mesmer and fight like if it was a boss fight with adds.

A glass canon can surely finish a mesmer within 20 seconds, mind that if they would like to encourage shattering illusions this is not they way.

I felt that mesmer did poor damage in PvE compared to other classes now with this nerf probably it does a 10% less…

i prefer to just start playing and wait till things are balanced, the balancing system may not be good but they are skirmishes… while for tournaments 5 minutes is too much 1 minute, maximum 2 is enough.

The sharks have a role, they ensure that it’s more than advisable that you don’t go alone to get that point, while i’d find horrible that some npcs attack you while you are pvping because they give an unfair advantage here it’s important for this. Also makes this point important as once you get it if defended properly makes very unlikely that is contested again,

you’re right but you can’t have all the things you mention, well you can but choosing the right weapon combination and skills, normal mesmers don’t use all of this unless they are so lame. This skills are all defensive if they beat you is because you are too ofensive, a thief that can kill you in a glimpse is useless against a mesmer of this kind because they combo is easily countered but i swear you that a necro, not even a skilled one kitten this kind of mesmer.

Key is balance i play mesmer,thief and elementalist and the builds that are making me perform better as the ones that don’t make me excell in any situation but at the same time enable me to go offensive or totally defensive when needed.

What do you consider the top 3 PvP professions?

mesmers aren’t unkillable sometimes they drive you mad but their strenght is 60% player located, if you are able to distinguish who is the real one their survivality isn’t that high. Of course if you run killing illusions it can become frustrating, it happens to me sometimes too nobody is saved.

In tpvp things can change as you can have one member specialized in killing bunkers or maybe 2 full on condition damage that can outheal a guardian of this kind but as for pug skirmishes…

1)Guardian
2)Mesmer
3)Hunters

Thieves are ran by noobs, everytime i see a thief i feel like “free kill” they do extremely well out of the main battle and sneaking in to finish someone but thats it.

Necros can also be a pain in the kitten I’d say that if you don’t have any condition cleaner they are unbeatable i’ve seen onmyself 10+ stacks of hemorrage in a glimpse.

/signed. It’s compulsory to have a dueling area to showcase skills in some kind of “unofficial tournament” like wow has in SW/Orgrimmar.

Additionally i agree it’s strongly instanced even in wow arenas you end up fighting with the same teams over and over and eventually chatting with them, when i play spvp it feels like playing with randoms.

And tournaments simply don’t work there’s no aim,anet needs to start putting some organization into this, this is far from being an esport this looks like a minigame inside a pve game (no concerns about the game in this aspect) but they sold the game like if it was going to bring a revolution to mmos pvp and ,as for now, it’s stale.

I am mesmer and i have finally neglected it. All the elite skills of mesmer are seriously not that good. I will exclude from discussion the one that gives you stealth because i find it almost useless in 1v1 pvp, may have some points in organized tpvp.

The moa bird as someone pointed has a long cast time, you can’t move and it can be dodged, blocked, interrupted or the enemy can run out of sight or out of range. In short it’s a pain in the kitten to effectively throw it down.

Once the other guy is polimorphed he can still flee so it gets mitigated since the biggest damage a mesmer can perform is with melee blade, keep in mind that the mesmer does not have an spamable snare/root like other classes have so it’s easy for them to flee if not executed properly.

It has a very long cooldown so you have to learn to live without it, i almost never used it, apart from being so lame.

In short, it can be easily countered and it’s only effective if you care about the timing of the opponent heal and you cast it right before so you can finish him.

About the AoE speed burst: It’s very situational, it can be extremely OP or not. If you drop it say on the graveyard on forest while fighting 3v3 yes, odds are that you savage the other team. But if you force the other to exit the area it becomes useless. Mesmer does not have a very high damage by himself, excluding the 2h sword which i don’t find very good in Spvp so it gets countered quite easy.

I run a rather defensive mesmer build, balanced but defensive mostly. I have came across with other people that have similar builds (specially guardians and elementalists) and it ends up being an endless battle over the capture point, something that could become worse if there is an amulet that provides you extra endurance and stamina. Although sometimes this fights end and the other gets killed, i like this kind of fights and i think they should be encouraged but it’s fine as it is i just hope people start choosing balanced builds instead “hit n miss” ones.

On the other hand it is what i am saying lastly, some people (thiefs mostly) that have full damage with around 80% crit and a ton of damage but 0 resistance so it’s a “i kill you in 5 seconds or you kill me in 5” which is not fun and discouraging for both sides, something that can go worse if the itemization enables to go 100% on damage discarding any defensive stat.

thing is that i happen to like “zerging” i don’t like going on an 8 mindless pack of bulls but i like going solo or with a mate , i would be careless of the points, running from one side of the map to another it’s not exactly my concept of enjoyable. Gw2 definitely needs some kind of arenas wow style, hopefully more balanced.

The problem i see is that mesmer/guardian is a though combo and if you kill one of them due to their downed skill it will be a hell to finish them with the guardian pulling you for 3 secs which is the amount of time necesary for a res or the mesmer simply pulling your leg with the illusions.

f they are all runnig around in a group then you have two bases capped and when they run to the next just neutralize the last one they capped?
Stop them by not fighting them, just run around them. They can’t win by runinng around all in one group (multiple people on point increase cap speed?)

Yes, this seems fun, avoiding the other team and making spvp a funny chasing game without action.

I’ve noticed myself that playing as you should often gives you less points, this game like all the previous games is a boring farming game. And the high end pvp is simply non existent at the moment

emm the discussion about if you should shatter your ilusions or not depends a lot. Mind wrack does less damage than the phantasm you get from pistol and if you are going full on damage will always be better to have 3 of them pounding the target, you can use it as a finisher doing up to 3k traited or so which is fine but just one duelist does more damage if traited properly.

The only situations mind wrack shines is when you have simple illusions from the scepter or different traits that summon one but you are also losing an important defense, even with highly experienced players this illusions give you a break, it’s very difficult to know which is the real one in a glimpse if you keep switching positions with your clones.

Another good use of mind wrack is with the guard from the focus, since it is static you can shatter it to get some extra damage after his job is done.

well rogues if specced properly can 3 shot people in wow too but when their cds are burnt they do nothing and since this kind of combos can be countered nobody carries a rogue of this kind…

It’s completely possible in gw2, in fact the absence of healers would make it shine. Healers killed the arenas in wow, in the arena tournament server 2v2 matchs can’t have a healer.

People has not learnt to fight against a mesmer and in fact it’skittensimple:

-Skip illusions (those who are exactly like the retail mesmer)
-See those purple colored phantoms? Go kill them , they hurt a lot and 50% of the damage output from a mesmer comes here.
If you have a massive aoe skill like the “0” skill from thieves that dances throwing daggers use it you’ll kill all the illusions and damage the mesmer, without illusions his damage it’s minimal, receives more damage etc…

It’s relatively easy to know which is the real one: If it has chaos armor it’s the real one, if it moves while ataccking is the real one, if uses anything else than the “1” skill is the real one. When mesmers switch weapons in fact you can see 3 clones hitting you but almost without damage on melee range and another throwing you bolts far, evidence of which one is real is clear.

Another thing about mesmers is that they don’t have a proper spamable snare so getting to where they are shouldn’t be hard, if they are using torch they can go stealth, kill the ilusions in the meantime (if he has no illusions the distraction is minimal) and roll (V) after 4 seconds because it’s going to open you with a combo most likely if he is using swords (or to flee)

Downed state¿? Hit previously to check their life and use TAB to discover where he landed after cloning.

Mesmer is not OP, people are underpowered because they are lazy and don’t know the mechanics of each class, go play them to discover their weakness…

When people start knowing these you won’t see that much OP classes, noobs play what is fashionable at the moment, specially if it’s easy (thats why you have seen so much warriors and thieves at the start) now, people seem to don’t know how to deal with mesmers and thats why you see so much rerolling.

yeah i agree, the ele downed state is pretty weak, when i kill one is like no down stat at all.
