Its a double edged sword for me.
I don’t play much anymore as the game doesn’t excite me, and there are other games calling my name, but I do log in to check what my Dailies are, and if they are easy or wont take to long I will do them. I want the Laurels so I don’t fall too far behind in WvW.
If they look complicated I log straight back out and go play something else. I’ve also being playing from launch and never managed to complete a Monthly

I assumed there would be cool stuff to buy, like armour skins, but all stuff I have seen is horrible. Some of the Halloween was nice for novelty value, but nothing I really would spend on.
Give me a selection of Medieval Shields, nothing fancy, no skulls, no frills, no fairy lights and I will give you money.
Give me Quagan backpacks? I am not a 12 year old girl.
A break from other games
I might pop on to do my Dailies, but if they are too much of a hassle I usually log out again.
Other than that I mainly log in to say ‘Howdy’ to a few friends, and maybe 10-15mins in WvW.
Don’t get me wrong, I still like the game, but it stopped being on my ‘most played’ list a long time ago
Being of a similar age, I agree with some of your post, but I think its more a result of the evolution of games, than gamers per say.
Back in the day RPG meant ‘Phantasy Star’, and if you wanted a new weapon you killed X creatures, saved your cash, went to the shop. It was simple back then. There were no restrictions on killing the same creature, no restrictions on how to earn, no restrictions on how to spend.
Problems only arise when people feel they are restricted for no good reason, add that to ‘free open’ speech (read: QQ) of forums and people have a place to vent their frustrations.

Agreed. But this games economy is one of the worst I have seen. Its on par with an action mmo, you vendor 95% of the stuff you find. And what can you spend gold on that’s so important?
Whatever happened to ‘play how you choose’? People have been doing dragons over and over for the last few months. A ‘dragon timer’ website was even born to cover this. The economy survived.
I cant see why Anet would choose (again) to restrict its user base.

So effectively this means they are saying ‘go repeat X(fractals/dungeons etc) over and over and over’, and in the same breath saying we are not allowing you to ‘repeat Y(big event), over and over’.
On one hand I can see where they are coming from, they don’t want people getting good stuff, easy, by repeating the same fight. But they want us to repeat the same grind over and over elsewhere, for longer, with less reward…
Only game I have ever played that releases ‘new’ content that a % of the player base CANT access, and those that can are forced to wait 9 weeks and grind the same stuff over and over to earn the pts to unlock.
You know what annoys me the most about all this…
Im sure Anet has data on how many Guilds there are, and how much influence they have, and would have set the entry cost at what they thought achievable for the majority, based on their data.
Or, another way of looking at it, they purposely chose to isolate a fraction of their community from enjoying this content.

There is one thing about being excited about an update and disappointed, which seems for me at least, an increasingly common theme in this game, but surely we can get a change of mechanics for the ‘big’ events at some point? Plz?
I am talking about the ‘Kill Invaders’ part, which again involves camping one location, then spamming aoe to try and get credit for creatures that die the moment they spawn.

Looking at my post previous post we have taken 100 new members in 5 days!
This huge jump coming up from AG is a straight up numbers thang much more than it is a teamwork/play style change I agree there.
Last week we dropped an entire rank and Tier only by a margin of 0.14% or we would have held our position for the first time since we dived. That shows improvement.
This week the match is unbalanced, and not helped in the slightest by KISS jumping over. The way the system works doesnt account for migration like this, so we benefit, GH loses. The result is our average rating gets artificially inflated and we look far better than we are. We will suffer horribly for it next week.

And I can only speak for the last 3 weeks since I became involved on the AG community site. But in those 3 weeks I have seen advancements in teamwork and coordination, and two server wide Operations (of which I helped plan).
I am also big on numbers and have all the graphs and tables and charts. I have also spoke negatively about AG and the last 6 weeks, where we bounced between 18 and 19 positions.
This week we are set to jump by 3 places, and hopefully the week after that, settle into middle Tier 6.
Based on the last 6 weeks, and the future predictions for the next two. Something has to have changed (either in our own server, or all the enemy servers we have played). Its crazy to expect every other server to have changed, therfore it must be AG that have changed and improved. And this has to have happened recently, as like we agree the MOS graphes dont lie
Whilst I agree with some points made in this thread, it is unfair to think AG’s building success is down to simply other Guilds jumping to us.
We have been making good progress with our coummity site, getting people involved and working together. UNITY’s open mic night – inviting every www player to join them on a community mumble – has gone a good way to proving this.
People talk of our night caps, and the graphes from MOS dont lie, we do have a good night cap team, but often UNITY events start at 11pm, rolling through to 2am, 3am. This added to the open mic communication makes for an effective fighting force on a late evening/early morn. Not simply numbers, but good teamwork
Like I say, a 2v1 sounds good, IF the battle would end 1st and 2nd place. But it doesnt. It ends 1/2/3.
If 2 servers united, one of them would still end in 3rd place, and their score would be LOSS v A, LOSS v B. The worst possible outcome.
In such an alliance, the first server to stab the other in the back would be guarenteed 2nd place.
And yeah, this week for me (as an AG) was been boring due to the unbalance. I feel for you guys.
There is a sticky thread that goes into detail on how scoring is worked out.
From that list though, the Tier 4 is losing position because their ranking suggests they should be doing better than they are. The fight(points gap) is too close/small.
Yak started the week over 160pts in rating higher than their rivals, in terms of game points the gap would be expected to be 60k for example. The actual game score is only +7k/9k, suggesting Yak are under performing against a technicaly weaker opponents

Alliances, and 2v1 are all great in theory, but it all depends what you wish to achieve.
Ratings are based on maths and are 3 way battles. Servers are scored AvB and AvC.
There comes a time when attacking the leader becomes less important than picking up points against the 2nd/3rd place.
Regardless of diplomacy, the match will always finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

I think Gladians have an edge over most servers when it comes to community. We have an excellent website, with a dedicated team, through which we are really starting to come together.
I have server pride in the community we are creating and the team work that is developing from this. It may take a few weeks more, but AG will begin to rise up the www table, and we are definately a server to watch

As one of the people behind the organisation of Operation Triumph, I salute you and your server, and WR, for coming out in force to show us all what a real www brawl could be.
We decided to publicaly announce this event as the week looked more or less over, with AG points ahead. It would have been a shame to just let that last couple of days of what was a good fight, just pitter out to nothing.
Glad it worked to bring the Gunners out fighting. From AG side, we had queues for two maps, which rarely happens.

The Glade and the Jade Sea should stop slogging it out between ourselves and hit the Abaddons in the proverbial ‘mouth’ before they get an unattainable lead.
I wont lie, I think we (Aurora Glade) are punching above our weight here, its not going to be a good week for us.
Both JS and AM have better table standings and history than AG.
If there is any hope it lies with community action over at www.auroraglade.eu. We have the tools in place, and a few good men (and women), but still seem to be unable to mobilise the zerg into any real form. For all the spirit of Gladians, we do seem to be our own worst enemy sometimes.
It has been a good week, good match. I dont think the numbers really reflect the action, felt a lot closer at times.

Those of you who play support/healer builds will now what I mean
I play a Guardian, my aoe heal ticks nicely, my #6 heal effects friendly players, my weapons have 30% chance to heal nearby friendly, and even my roll into/out of combat triggers a heal.
All in all I deliver maybe 4 times as much in heal than I do in damage, and thats not taking into account my other support skills.
It was mentioned a long time ago in a post on the Dynamic Events thread that they were looking into ways of improving reward credit for support focussed players.
SWTOR introduced a nice system which rewarded the dedicated healer, if the person they were healing, scored a kill at the time they were recieving aid.
Any news on what happened to the ‘looking into it’?
Not all players sit in one area and farm… some of us enjoy the game
I would love to see mini games added, with rewards or not.
Cosmetic rewards could be easilly added, Target Shootout for example earn tokens, buy town clothes only available from there.

Operation Triumph
Join the Glade for a major WWW operation on the evening of Wednesday 28th November.
Players of all skills and standing required to join in a server wide event. We need volunteers to join the ranks of our Commanders, as well as leaders for small raid style actions.
Full details will be disclosed closer to event, but keep an eye on chat during the course of the day. This event will be supported by major AG WWW Guilds and will be coordinated via a dedicated Mumble client.
This is our week for victory in WWW, we have a large lead over both our opponents. It is an ideal time for veterans to practice and perfect strategies and for newcomer’s to try out the game in a safer (than normal) environment.

Does anyone know of any good places that discuss the actual mechanics/spawn timers etc of WWW? In particular looking for info on the following,
Scoring: Is it trickle, or are points added when the clock reaches 15.00?
If it straight 15, then it would make sense to cap at 14.59, and lose 15.01
Supplies: at resource camps, how often do they generate (10 every minute?)
Doylak: kill one off, and how long till it respawns? Also how many resources fo they carry (100?).
