For all of those who missed my last two threads on the subject, a brief introduction.
Not one to blindly believe claims on DR, I set about trying to find it in game and find what triggers it (time/kills).
I ran two, all be it not very scientific, experiments. One on DR items and one on DR karma.
The items run, showed DR seemed to set in after 40mins/70 kills.
The Karma run, showed ZERO DR in Karma from Dynamic Events.
Following a rumour that Karma rewards have now been hit with DR from the recent patch I set about running the experiment again.
This time I choose a different region to farm DE’s than my previous attempt.
Long story short, the Karma rewards from farming the DE’s showed ZERO DROP IN RATES.
The first DE awarded 3675 Exp, 243 Karma, 1s 20c
After 11 DE’s in just over and hour the reward for the last DE was 3675 Exp, 243 Karma, 1s 20c
I took screen shots after every event. The timer is clearly shown.
After my last run I invited any sceptics to do the following,
Join me in game and run the experiment again
Post a photo log showing a decline in Karma from DE’s over time.
ZERO people took up either offer, so I again make the same offers to anyone who would care to try.
The photos are also available for anyone who would like to see them
When I log on later and run 20 DE’s all night, I better get hit by DR or I am gonna be so kitten at this forum! :P
I ran a little experiment and saved all the photos as evidence. 13 DEs in a row, as fast as possible, NO DR ON KARMA.
Now.. this was well over a week ago, and I have read above that the DR took effect in the latest patch. I do not know if this is true or not, I will test it asap
I keep saying this like a broken record.
I did 2 threads on the DR.. one farming the same 6 trolls, and one farming the same DE’s
The trolls showed signs of DR
THE DE DID NOT SHOW ANY SIGNS OF DR
DE karma isnt effected by DR, I have screen shots of repeating the same DE’s 13 times, the rewards all the same.
Dont know much about Dungeons, but general PVE is still useful.
I just spent the last 15 minutes of the game I played drawing agro from a Champion Troll, taking his hits, and avoiding his big hits, whilst the rest of the players hit him with range.
I play a support Guardian, plenty of toughness, vitality, and healing skills.
Standing still and taking hits doesnt work well, but active defence (dodging and timing skills well) works very good
Level 80…
I wanted a helm that was available from a Karma vendor in a level 15 area.. plenty of folks running around
Stopped for a bit (passing through) in a level 45 area, big boss spawned.. no players.. call in map chat, linked the wp, players!
I didnt get chance to go to Orr today, but Im guessing.. players!
Getting money to buy transmutation stones to change my armour at the mo,
then.. getting money to buy decent armour (stats) to change over again
That and the awesomeness of the game in general
I’ve not really noticed a problem with the respawn rates. I often fight my way through an area if I can, as running can often lead to attracting a lot of unwanted attention.
If you are concerned about being attacked in hostile territory whilst you are gathering materials, well…
By the time a game reaches Beta, it has moved on from the design board by miles.
Ive been in plenty of Alphas and Betas (am playing some at the mo).
I have seen changes in Alphas, very small changes in Betas.
But open Betas, even weekends are mainly stress testing on the servers. Nothing fundamental will change
Take a stand bro! Fight the power!
Could you please do it in another game though? Bored of reading drivel here on the forum
No incentives isnt exactly true… take it from someone who spends forever playing DE’s
The Exp once you hit 80 isnt all that important, you tend to have unlocked all the skills you wanted as you progressed, so the others are just there to be unlocked whenever.
The Karma gained, around 400 for top zones, 274 for for mid isnt really that much of a major difference
Coin, I tend to get 1 and half silver from most DE’s
As for items, sure they dont drop as much as high zones, but you can still get drops for your level in other areas. Market value also helps a lot, Copper is still very high and very easy to obtain. Acolyte gear drops a lot a low levels and has mark ups of over 10x the vendor price.
Spot on Diva, nice post.
What I would add is about the rewards, they still have a chance to drop items for your level.
I love playing DE’s and play them all over the world, at different levels, I also help out lower level people from time to time. I play mainly because I enjoy the game, but when a level 80 item drops from a level 15 kill, well thats just a nice bonus
They havent said much on the subject. In a situation like this I think they would want to keep their cards close to their chests so as not to give any info to the enemy.
But DR is far from the bug bear people make it out to be.
What amuses me is people who log a lot of hours, obviously playing and enjoying the game, then come on at 80 and complain they have nothing to do. The game downscales, the 200 hours you just spent enjoying yourself can be done again for the parts you missed (or replay the parts you like).
If I had to write half of what GW2 is onto paper, it would be foolish of me to believe that I would not make a single spelling mistake.
That is not even taking into account AI, triggers, and pathing.
As long as they have an active team working on it, all is good
Simple fact – Devs designed a mechanic to target the behaviour of bots. Therefore any legit player who has a style the same as bots will also be hit by the mechanic.
My ‘workaround’ is real real simple, I play the game. I move around a lot from one DE to the next and I usually fight and gather materials on the way.
I have said it a million and one time – folks are more than welcome to jump to Aurora Glade, game with me, and avoid all DR. Or keep farming your grubs oh no, they stopped that as well
Y’all should seriously come roll with the Legend of Xericor, as I seem to avoid all this DR nonsense. I even posted findings in previous threads with photo evidence.
Loot – yeah, farm the same area and the same bunch of monsters and it kicks in.
Karma – no DR on karma from events. I have the photos
Dungeons – they already said how this works, and its far from as bad as people think
Only hits those who play like the bots
Coz a Thief would have a hard time stealing anything whilst wearing heavy armour
And who would trust a Guardian to hold the line wearing cloth
Use map chat and call out interesting events. People will come.
As for level 80’s going back – I jump all over the world as I love the Dynamic Events. Sometimes I will be in Orrr, sometimes in Kessex Hills.
DR doesn’t effect experience gained.
If you are getting map completion explore areas that are on your level. If you are 66, explore 60-70 areas. Also Dynamic Events give a huge chunk of exp.
Crafting also gives exp.
I have an idea..
One that will go some way to solving lots of problems…
I present, the ‘Wild Wild West’ Server.
Make one server where DR is NOT in effect. You can farm all you want, anything and everything, anytime for as long as you choose! The freedom is yours!
Now here is the catch… you cannot change servers and you cannot mail cross server.
What happens on the Wild Wild West stays on the Wild Wild West.
Getting real sick of these forums getting clogged up with 4star kitten nonsense.
Only Anet know the answer to that.
However, we must consider why bots are there in the first place – they farm to sell to players, to earn real world money for themselves.
IF players dont buy – bots wont farm.
Difference between myself and OP…
1. I am level 77
2. I am too lasy to write that much, but basically, yeah, what he said!
Yawn Really.. tell me more..
Over exaggerated, opinionated rubbish. Thanks for wasting another post in the General forum. Why not just walk away mate, let it die…
The Legend continues!
Join the cause – fighting for the glory of Aurora Glade server in world v world pvp!
Message me ingame, new players to world pvp welcome.
Playing throughout the day (GMT), also some pve around Orr and Kessex Hills
They have said (on the Dynamic Events thread I believe) that they will be addressing the no reward for supports.
Howdy,
While it is a Guild, its not really a Guild, but you would be more than welcome to join the Legend of Xericor anytime you want / till you find a real guild to call home.
Basically just myself and whoever turns up, pve mainly, some pvp, plenty of Dynamic Events and map exploration, not just for 100% completion but exploring all the hidden little gems, like caves, and secret areas the game has.
Dam.. op is right… bring back gear and levels. Lets all kick ten tons of, out of the low levelled, less geared guy and call our selves PRO :P
Deplorable! Horrid!
Far to many Events bugged! Bugged Renown Hearts! Far to many Skill Point challenges bugged! Fubared for levelling! Mob xp is FAR to low! Jumping server nerfed! Horrible gaming experience!
Pretty much describes the opposite of the 4hrs I played today.
I offer you this – transfer to Aurora Glade, come run with the Legend of Xericor for a few hours, because I seem to manage to avoid most of this stuff (I say most, not all – had 2 bugged events today!).
Not in the slightest, actually almost the opposite.
I find the game is so good I want to spend money on it, but having unlocked bank and inventory space, and bought keys by converting gold to gems, I feel a bit of a cheap skate for not having spent cash yet
Nothing as cool as the secret strawberry patch, but I have found a ton of little areas, caves, hidden places etc by just wandering around and thinking ‘hey, I wonder whats down here…’
Excellent work, give this guy a PR job
Try the ‘Trading Post’, you can narrow the search to only level 10 items, and then onto rarity.
Other than that, completing heart quests usually turn the NPC into a Vendor who sells some nice low level (but good) items.
Defending the Hylek!
Today the Legend of Xericor will be deep in the Maguuma Jungle, in a region known as Sparkfly Fen. It is here that a tribe of the Hylek desperately fight to hold their holy grounds against the torrential hordes of the Risen!
Come defend Shorewatch Post, Southwatch Post, and the Zintl Holy Grounds.
Battle will also be made against a giant Risen Shark, a huge Galleon ship, and possibly, if the timing is right, an heroic battle with a Dragon!
Playing throughout the day (GMT), Sparkfly Fen is a Level 55 – 65 Region
Greetings all
I am loving the game at the moment, so much so I have decided to set up my own Guild.. kinda..
I tend to spend most of my time playing dynamic and meta events, and exploring the map for the sake of adventure and fun. I have learnt that if you listen to NPC’s conversations they will often trigger events that don’t usually show up on your map, and speaking of maps, just because you have 100% on an area really doesn’t mean you have explored it – there are a lot of hidden caves and other places still to check out.
So, I extend an offer to anyone interested in the fun aspect of the game, to join me, explore and play through the dynamic events and story lines that bring life to the game of Guild Wars 2.
Fighting in the front lines against Centaurs, storming Pirate Strongholds, venturing deep into troll infested caves this is what we will do.
If you are after grind for gear, and constant speed dungeon runs, then I cant help you, but if climbing a mountain just for the view appeals to you then come, adventure in the Legend of Xericor, the closest thing GW has to a fellowship
Also partial to a spot of world pvp!
Come adventure with the Legend of Xericor!
Greetings all
This is an open invitation to anyone looking for a little in game help, be that anything from your first steps in Tyria, understanding the map, playing the first Dynamic Events etc, to surviving your first world v world pvp.
If you need an ingame buddy, please feel free to whisper me and I will help if I can, no strings attached, wont cost you any silver, and no guild to join or anything like that.
I am in the UK and play on GMT (BST), and am usually on and off throughout the day and evening.
Hi NatureBlade,
Welcome to the forums.
Have you tried looking in the specific sections of the forums here (Crafting Forum, Ranger forum etc), there are lots of helpful threads there.
Generally speaking, you should play in any area that you are the same (or higher) as, once you get more confident, venture to places that have enemies a couple levels higher than you. They will be a tough fight, but not unbeatable.
As for crafting and mats, collect everything you see on the map, use salvage kits on white items that say ‘Trophy’, and look for sacks as loot, opening them gets you crafting materials.
Hope this helps!
lol
About right OP
Level 65, Guardian, 8/10
Would be 10, but I gave -1 for Crafting (nice system, but produces a ton of useless stuff), -1 for Economy (production is way higher than demand, ending up with the majority of stuff just being discarded to vendor)
Combat early on is very easy. Wait till you get to harder zones and dungeons present a whole new challenge to coordinating combat.
Best fight I had recently – myself and a Thief trying to steal sugar pumpkin from a Troll camp, several Trolls 2 levels higher than us and a Veteran Troll. We kited, rolled, covered each other, in a very dynamic combat while collecting pumpkins, was a fantastic fight
To help with your LFG problems have you considered,
Find and join a good Guild.
Use something like Teamspeak to coordinate better.
My main gripe with SWTOR was the way the devs treat the community. Being lied to and ignoring problems, while simultaneously adressing and answering ‘fun, easy’ stuff.
I dont see that here. Anet calling people out on Reddit and posting actual chat logs, uncensored, was pure magic.
I have faith in the people behind the game and I have faith in the game itself
Pre launch, I wasnt in the Beta but I watched a lot of videos. One piece of advice I remember listening to, and it is so true, was ‘Listen to the NPC’s conversations’
I do.. and the result.. is you get lots of little DE that dont pop up on the map, or that you cause them to pop up.
And lets not start on the amount of caves and explorable areas that are hidden but dont have a POI so nobody goes there until you trip over them…
I agree with you, players should take time and explore a little
I play a support Guardian, in PvE I go mainly for healing and support, but find its better to go for more of a ‘hold’ style in PvP, to capture locations.
My spec includes lots of toughness and vitality to stay alive, and lots of shouts to help out allies. There is also a trigger that kicks in self healing tied to shouts, which means I can aid my allies and stay alive longer myself.
Its a good build for holding, but you need friends. Staying alive a little longer than normal doesnt help much in the end…
Erm.. I play how I want, when I want, I must be special or something
Erm.. I play how I want, when I want, I must be special or somethingI’ve also posted a couple of threads trying to shed some light on the diminishing returns / anti farming thang, but hey facts and figures dont matter when over exageration is the thang
Howdy,
The best way to learn about the game is to read the info here on the site, or the Guild Wars 2 official wiki, which is a great source of info.
I would be happy to help you in game, but you would need to transfer to Aurora Glade server. Your best bet without the transfer is to find a new player friendly guild on your own server. There are plenty of good guilds, try posting in the Guild Section of this forum or watch chat channels for recruiting messages when you play.
I think a lot of it is common sense tbh. Whatever killed the first player, while he was active and fighting, able to defend himself, will kill you while you crouch down, undefended and attempt to heal…
That being said, a couple of posts above are good advice – its often better to kill the target and rally the downed player.
There is also the option of gearing yourself a little better to help people. I play a support Guardian and part of my gear gives me bonuses while I res people
