There is a slightly different way to view this situation. From my real life experience ragers, shouters, the self centered, self aggrandizing and impatient rarely are happy people. They are unhappy with most of life, events never go the way they want, acquaintances and family avoid them. I just say a little thank you that I’m not stuck inside their skins. They can be wonderful lessons of how not to live your life.
Because when Anet said play your own game they were deluding us and perhaps themselves. Anet has a history of trying to get players to play all aspects of the game – going all the way back to GW1. I suspect it’s a resource management issue they spent X number of hours making the content now they need to herd players into that content….
This is the company that made sport of “go kill 10 rats” and they have replaced it with “here is a shopping list to research then go kill those 114 different rats”
Naw, why do people want to peek at Christmas presents before Christmas Day? It’s gonna be what it’s gonna be. I really think that the desire to know what is coming is a deep need to control and in this situation we have little if any control. We’ve had access to the game, we know a portion of the map. But some how the need for details makes people unhappy? Because if those details don’t fit our expectations we can some how… what?
You can craft the great lucky lanterns then sell them on the TP for good profit. The Great Ram especially is very profitable
Note: you need the non-great versions for it to be profitable
Yes this is true and it doesn’t solve the problem for several reasons. IIRC the unit of Luck required is a smaller value that any player with excess Luck would store it. It doesn’t use enough Luck. IF I were to craft that back item the market would crash when just I dropped 900+ backpacks into the TP. Oh yeah and I need the non-great versions first. No this just isn’t a solution.
As a side note. The reason I have excess Luck is because when I pushed to get max MF I found I could earn excess gold in the process. See my previous post concerning my view of the Luck mechanic.
I’m glad to see this thread resurrected. “Arise!” Yes, please give us a solution for unusable luck. I like the idea of letting it go free market, but doubt that will fly. An eater is a solution, but those eaters give such sad results. Recipes could do the trick but unless it’s a multitude of usable foods please don’t make the end result account bound. I have no use for 1000’s of cute, fuzzy backpack skins. Further compaction would work as a stopgap but really isn’t a solution.
To address a side issue for those who say there is little need to fix this issue because an aberrant play style was used, I’d ask the question isn’t “play your own game” at the core of Guild Wars 2? Just because a minority of players hit this issue earlier than some, they some how don’t deserve a solution until the majority catch up? As I see it there is a design flaw, the bucket was going to overflow as soon as the mechanic of Luck was introduced. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
I am speechless…………..
There are those that see life as a job. We all play our own game, I’m going to have fun for a couple of hours and don’t need to be "payed"sic.
That’s a good thing that we can’t fly in this game, gliding is fine. It would totally ruin immersion
While standing around the storage in LA – I SAW A BEAGLE PUPPY IN KERCHIEF AND COWBOY HAT! and you are going to talk about immersion? Naw those days are long past.
It wasn’t Mr Smith. The fellow I recall was from Europe, I suspect he may have moved on. I may not have been clear – there are wealthy players it just is not Anet’s goal to create them and that many of their ways of controlling the economy hinder accumulation of gold.
I’ve come to terms with the fact that Anet will work actively to prevent wealthy players. I do believe that there are wealthy players; players that are wise in the ways of flipping high priced items at the TP, players that guessed that certain common items would rise in price and accumulated large quantities prior to the spike. But as a whole Anet does not favor that situation and at times if an event becomes obviously apparent they can and have intervened.
Prior to the release of the game Anet hired a gentleman whose name I do not remember. But I do remember he was adamant that the economy could be controlled and that he would do it.
I don’t think Anet does it to mean or because it hates the players. It does it to provide a stable economy. An economy that has the correct gold to gem ratio. I do believe if Anet wanted t6 leather prices to drop they would turn the dial and loot bags could be filled. It will change … and then change again.
People are playing the game and having fun. If I want to play the game like a Tycoon type game I need to accept the environment that I’m playing in, I wonder if Silver is going to spike this time around?
Several people have said that’s a terrible idea. I disagree it’s just a silly idea. Why would Anet go to the trouble of reducing player choices just to satisfy a sick desire to control. There are some lessons that could to be learned; loyalty and respect are earned not enforced.
It would be great if Anet would actually post on here what the deal is with the loot system for PoF are we going to see the same numbers that we are currently seeing, as I wouldn’t mind actually playing the new maps to get mats to craft gear I need, instead of the usual grind.
Exactly, I’d like to hear Anet’s version of the why and how this works. Because HoT was a major disappointment for me I’ve been cautiously watching PoF. I was on the verge of spending some fun money on the Ultimate Edition but now seeing this load I’m going to hold off until things are cleared up.
a. Going to the Hearts for IDing is a deal breaker
b. IDing cost should be 10% (or so) the NPC price listed on the item.
It’s too bad this came up, I didn’t think I’d like the mounts and I did. I liked the feel of the maps. But this just reeks of disrespect. Hopefully it’s not presented as a fun new RNG mechanic, I’ve got 9.5k hours in and no Pre drop. I’ve learned to despise the thought of RNG.
Hopefully we’ll hear something from Anet, until then I’ve tabled any purchase.
I’d really like to hear Anet’s take on this. One of the issues that most don’t realize and only some will care about is that loot that comes in bags for the most part is not affected by Magic Find. It also gives Anet more control in regulating drops. Protecting it from MF makes the outcome more predictable.
But for the life of me I can’t understand what the core goal is in this process. “Here’s loot, now you give us currency for your drop”! Did they not think there would be immense pushback on the introduction of this process? I truly hope nobody suggested calling it content.
Well I wonder if Magic Find (the unwanted baby) will work when IDing?
Because all the PoF questions, comments, whines and praise will be lumped into one thread. In the world of Taxonomy there are lumpers and splitters, Anet is definitely a lumper. Why? Only the Six Five know. Just another broken feature on a broken forum.
Buwahaha, the vendors again have the recipes. I went into WvW with a new char that I’d rolled a few weeks ago, was able to spend account based World Ability Points to max out Portable Provisions Master, buy the Portable Provisions Master and the recipes weren’t there. Mayhaps this is a ticket issue? I dunno as I said it’ll all sort out.
I take it you meant spend World Ability Points. Be nice if; a. the wiki was updated, b. the wiki page with the info on World Ability Points that shows the change had been date logged, c. the vendor had a redirect. It’ll all sort out… success is in the detail, my beta didn’t crash that’s good news.

The page to make selections is blank. Why come? Did I miss the memo, did I doze off during the meeting or is the 10th new topic about it?
Armorsmith and Tailor vendors have them – seems perhaps only the crafts that craft bags sell the rune. Both were the second tab down…..see the tabs on the left side.
Now I know most of you are locked into a spider as a creepy necro mount, may I make an additional suggestion. The creepiest NPC in the game (that still haunts my dreams). Poobadoo
Glad to hear you’re enjoying the game more.
Regarding splitting stacks, you can still do that. Hold Alt. Unless you are referring to something else?
Different keys were used in GW1 – I used it as an example of how small things were changed.
I was a very big fan of GW1. When GW2 was released I was hopeful but so many of the features were jettisoned from GW1 that GW2 didn’t seem like a sequel but just another game with some of the same characters. I did not want or expect “a new game just like the old game”. Large features (secondary profession and builds) and small features (Xunlai Agents or key strokes to split a stack) were cast aside. It was as if a group of devs that had no knowledge of Guild Wars 1 designed a new Guild Wars game.
That said I’ve played this game since release. Was aggravated by it and had fun too. After the release of HoT and it’s tight convoluted trails…. I decided to stop spending cash on the game. I bought into a game that will be released in 2018 and continued to play GW2 using only gold for a few Gem Store purchases.
After seeing the release info on Path of Fire and the last few LS chapters, I’m starting to change my mind. What I have been doing is playing more and that is probably the most telling.
I don’t mean this to be a backhanded compliment, I find I’m changing my mind. In all the swirl of ppl grinding their own special axe I’d like to say thanks to Anet for keeping on doing what you’re doing.
Watch because of the leaks Anet will quickly retool and we’ll get a small expac of Pandas.
LoL
Why mounts? I’m betting fancy mount armor in the Gem Store.
Grasping for Glory; Last Hope in the Desert
If no Luck, please provide a secondary use. Thanks
Hey Mike and Anet I’d strongly suggest that from now announce all updates, “sometime in the next two or three weeks”. Just make them as random as you can. We’d login and be surprised that the update hit. It would solve any problems of player disappointment.
I’ve had issues with Anet’s game design and game features in the past, but the reaction of players in game and here is embarrassing. The sense of entitlement some players have is confusing. I feel like I’ve just watched a 6-8 year old kid go full blown spaz out in the grocery store. The question is how did that kid get that way?
Keep doing what yr doing – /waves at Gaile – still wishes there were builds – Zet
Attack of the household appliances!
My complaints are more fundamental. I’m still holding the memory of how totally Anet ignored Necros at release. Skills and trait layout seemed to be patched together by interns working an overtime weekend.
I get that Anet is warrior-centric, a majority of players seem to initially roll Warriors (less in GW2 than GW1). So we don’t have monks and everyone is equal except we still have 3 class weights. Yet as a Necro I’m given mele weapons while wearing Light armor. Yes, yes mobility and survivability….truth is my image of Necro is a char that is a caster. I’d rather cast thank you. Getting a Great Sword in HoT pretty much killed the game for me.
Add to that my overall disappointment with Anet’s decision to make GW2 a new game that could hardly be called a sequel. I didn’t want a new game just like the old game, but I expected the dev’s of the new game to at least bring some of the strengths that GW1 offered. They obviously didn’t.
So yeah it’ll take a lot to change my mind. I bought and tried BDO and I’m back. I’ll see what the future holds.
What happen after you max MF? Do you still get more and more of those anoying charges?
Yeah they keep dropping. I’ve continued to buy and salvage items from the TP. I now have 94 stacks of exotic essence of luck in storage. Hopefully Anet will come up with a secondary use for them in the future.
I’ve had max MF for over 2 years, what I’ve found is that the loot that drops will, on an average, be better. That means rares and exotics don’t rain down, it means I see more blue and green loot than a player w/ lower MF. It also means that the materials that drop are a higher quality ON AN AVERAGE. Even with maximum Magic Find, Guild Wars 2 is not a game that rewards “phat loot”. What I found aggravating was Anet’s use of containers that bypass player’s Magic Find.
Was it worth buying and salvaging nonstop for 5 months? Yeah, I had fun doing it and by purchasing the correct items made some gold.
Sarah – Thank you for the heads-up prior to the event.
I bought the pass with the assumption that when […] it would […]
It is naive to assume something for a product, if it is not included in the product’s description. Buy things only with the assumption that the thing includes exactly the features that were documented at that time, and nothing more.
Since its release, the airship pass includes exactly the features documented in its mouseover popup. Nothing less, nothing more. The game has changed around it, but the pass and the airship is still the same.
/doh – Which is exactly why I wrote " Anet never said or gave me any reason to believe that it would move." I like the my Airship Pass. I use it regularly.
(edited by Zet.9130)
I suspect ulterior motives. Dab these days is all rage with the doper crowd. I maybe wrong but I miss my Polla doll.
Dual pistols on mesmer (or every weapon available on every class)
Oh! I like that, it would allow people a true choice on their play style. My main is a necro and I hate playing mele. Playing with a great sword makes me feel like I’m wearing ice skates on a basketball court. I’m not saying the Reaper’s GS is bad it just doesn’t fit how I like to play. So I get a new weapon and it’s not shiny.
The other thing I’d really like to see is a build save feature.
When the Airship was released, it was part of the LS and the fall of LA. I bought the pass with the assumption that when the story continued it would travel with the story. When the camp under the Airship moved I realized mayhaps I had a pass to a stationary location. Anet never said or gave me any reason to believe that it would move. But it did seem logical for an Airship that had flown in could possibly fly away.
One of the lessons I’ve learned is to be careful what you wish for and I can imagine several locations I’d rather not be parked over. So moving would be nice but I’m not sure I’d want to swap it for a pass to DR.
8,085 hrs I’m starting to suspect that my many critical comments of Guild Wars 2 earned me a spot on a secret blacklist. Upon release many threads comparing GW2 to GW1 had a habit of disappearing.
While easy to implement I see no better way to alienate a portion of a player base than using RNG. It has for me.
I agree with most of what the OP has to say. But I don’t consider myself casual, it’s just that my play style may not be typical. I max’ed Magic Find 2 years ago.
The concern I have with the introduction of Raiding is that it’s what MMOs have been doing for 10 years or more. I know that some of Anet’s attempts at innovation have not been really well received, but please keep at it.
To celebrate that raiding is played by 10% of the player base seems if not humorous at least odd. We all play our own game and if you attempt to lump players into 2 groups I think many game design possibilities will be lost.
Yay I kept this short.
and those rewards have been problematic in the past. Odds are Anet isn’t eager to revisit that issue.
Also he could work as a Merc or “Hero”. Add him to the party to supply buffs or CC, healing even. It would be real handy. He could take the moniker of "kitten-o-Tron.
The Champs are annoying with too few people. and…I’ve killed the Legendary Executioner twice, both long and extended fights . One time I got 7 Sticks of Butter the 2nd time I got the exotic widget -meh. I’ll continue to kill the Champs but I’m a leaver if an Executioner pops, it’s bad design and not worth my time. If you are going to call a Boss “Legendary” the drop should be more than 7 Sticks of Butter. Anet really?? Butter??
I had a surprise battle with a Legendary Executioner. There was a nice group of players that had just killed a Bounty. The battle lasted longer than most and required movement and cooperation between players. It was fun. Thanks Anet, as far as I’m concerned it was a wonderfully designed encounter, kudos to the team.
Then I opened the loot bag and found the usual blue/green drops and 7 Sticks of Butter.
Butter, I got butter for killing a Legendary Executioner. Butter, deflated I returned to the Airship; 20 minutes later a call in map chat was asking for help w/ another Legendary foe. Meh, not for butter.
Anet you had me back, excited, believing you’d sorted it out and you dropped the ball.
From wiki – “Black Lion Chests can be found randomly on enemies or bought from the trading post.”
Expect extremely low drop rates for keys. When Anet nerfed key farming they indicated that the key drop rate would go up. But if you double a drop rate of 0.00000001% don’t expect to notice it.
I know we need a Kickstarter for “GUILD WARS 2 MOUNT FUND”
Just because someone has a idea doesn’t mean Anet thinks it’s a good idea or in their immediate plans. I’m sure half the ideas we players come up with wouldn’t fit in the existing game or would cause some odd conflict that we couldn’t even comprehend. It’s a business, their business. We as customers can make suggestions, stay customers or not.
I DO pay an optional subscription in the form of $15 and $25 gem cards.
Since I bought this game last year for $10, I’ve spent $160 in gem cards.
Yep, that’s what I did. Then became dissatisfied with the game (no rant mode) and stopped buying the Gems. If you like the game buy Gems and get your pretties.

Have jumping puzzles been in the game since launch?
Yes.
Have Mesmers and portals been in the game since launch?
Yes.
Did there used to be jumping puzzle dailies or monthlies?
Yes.
Did Mesmers port for them?
Yes.
Were there threads back then complaining about Mesmers porting for JPs?
Yes.
Has ANet known about Mesmers porting for JPs for dailies/monthlies for years now?
Yes.
Have they done anything to stop it or ever said anything against it?
No.
Are they going to change the rules about daily JPs?
No. PvE is supposed to be cooperative.
Did Zet hate the first JP he ever did?
Yes
Did Zet finish World Completion getting as many ports as he could?
Yes
Has Zet done another JP since he finished World Completion 3 years ago?
No
I too decided to max Magic Find using salvage items purchased at the TP. With some market/price research I ended up over 200g ahead. I continue to buy and salvage long after maxing MF. FYI greens give the most Luck.
200 × 2133 = 426,600
Enko what are you doing with your Luck? I’m at 94 stacks and counting. Perhaps a Forge recipe to turn them into Mystic Coins or ectos or ……. minor sigils?
I would personally start with fixing the bug that allows players to circumvent the idle timer. That would significantly reduce the number of players who are AFK farming.
I strongly suspect that last nights Cow Pie Price update was in fact the afk bug fix. I’m not in the position to test it – we may not hear anything.
There is a certain wicked irony about the update – I like it. It shows ppl are having fun – gods I hope they are….
How much you want to bet today’s update included more than the price of cow pies? Cow pies – BuWahaha.
Could be wrong -I have been before. Cow Pies – really. lol
