I voted NO too, do not remember the result… but it should not even worth a poll. You just need to think for a few seconds to realize it is not a good idea.

More siege… really? There are at least 10 other issues much more important than that.
There is a little bit of l2p indeed, I myself started to play thief just to learn the mechanics of the class.
My opinion, thief is extremely easy to play for roamers, you only die if you dare too much otherwise it is so easy to run away that I find it boring… for 1v1 it is not exactly so easy, a very good thief can kill anyone but he must have some skill with the class, any noobie can survive a 1v1 fight but beating any class specially bunkers and condition builds is another story.
I do not like the stealth mechanics of gw2, it is differente from any other MMO and I do give my gratz for the idea to try innovate stealth, but hiding while in combat is hard to balance. I prefer stealth to move around and for suprise first strike, so it could last longer but should not be available after combat begins, thief could have other defenseive mechanics like dogdes or any kind of passive evasion.
The same goes for any other class with stealth.
I would like to see balance on defensive builds, there are too many “die hard” builds with high damage output.
All I see now thieves, druids and eles die hard builds… and if you harm then to 50% they run away to heal in seconds and come back.
Dueling makes no harm to WvW, small or big scale, but duelers can not expect their figths to be respected all the time, first because you cant be always be sure a 1v1 is a duel (unless in certain places where you have some people around already watching or if both bows first) it might not and if so you have to help you server mate,
Second the WvW game mode is not designed for this, you can go to sPvP create a private room and duel all day long, or go to the obsidian place.
I always try to respect duels. but I do not think dueling so close to SMC is a good idea… there are other places with less zerg moving around like behind speldan camp or in the borderlands.
Problem is… long time ago in a galaxy far far away they said the Alpine bl would come back, but only after they make some design changes… so… it might be quite creepy when it comes back.

The Alpine map had the right proportion of verticality a map needs. The new map has too much vertificality. Simple as that.
Frankly I (and I’m not alone here) think they should change the traps into necro style marks.
This would come with a trade off
1: They would not be invisible anymore
2: They would not last as long once placedHowever
3: They would become ranged
&
4: Any boons granted would be shared with allies.This would go a long way towards making Dh more viable for the meta while at the same time getting rid of allot of the QQ from people being ambushed by traps.
As for the rest of the guardian traits, weapon skills & utility skills there are numerous threads on the fixes they need.
If they do this they have to change the concept, they will not be traps anymore, I doubt they will do that.
When they released the first news about DH and that it would be a trap based line my first reaction was “oh crap”, they should be marks and not traps, just like you are sugesting… marks would fit the Guardian concept better as “wards of protection”. But Anet wanted it to be more like a true hunter so thety are traps.
And in true… after I started playing it I liked it a lot, it is a more strategic playstyle, and fits the hunter concept Anet wanted.

Yes they mentioned that Alpine map would be revised and then it would come back… considering Desert map I also get worried of what is to come of Alpine map.
Maybe they will bring back the middle lake and Quaggans… I can just imagine what kind of weird events they plan with Quaggans.
I am happy that no nerf was applied now, because if it did would only be because of people crying, and it is never a good thing.
If it comes in a balance patch and do not break the DH completely it is fine.
Daily fixes better late than never… a great mistake to release HoT without fixing the WvW dailies… but ok fixed.
WP back to Keep is a good start.
The problem with Eotm is that there is no reason for a side to win, no one cares about the Eotm “ppt”, because there is no reward other than some supplies for WvW.
So why people would care to defend and get nothing for it? Better ktrain and get farm something… I do not like ktrains I only do it when I needed to level alts so it is definitely a game mode I do not ever want to see in WvW.
If they change Eotm to be part of the WvW ppt, or make it worth to win the match by chaging the rewards and pushing people to defend and not only ktrain so we could have something worth to see.
As you already play Necro you are probably used to lack of mobility so the second class depends a lot of on the playstyle you want. If you want mobility and play ambush style I would say thief or mesmer.
All that loot should come from owning rather than taking objectives.
That is a very good point. Something like if your guild claim something you will earn ressources over time for the guild bank.
Maybe need to “refresh” your claim every 3/4H. If one guild want to claim something she had to defend it and manage it.
Thats a good idea, buying wvw upgrades for the guild could be based on something it earns by claiming something… like every 15 minutes the guild gets a claim point and with x claim points it can buy a new wvw upgrade.
In my opinion keeps should to be hard to take… I like to run in small groups but try think how a 5 man group could conquer a castle? It makes no sense… keeps and castles must be something hard to get, it requires a lot of work, it should not be impossible for small group to take it but it has to be hard as hell. Larger structures demands larger groups.
Small groups should focus on smaller targets, like towers and camps.
I remember a comment from ANet when they released Eotm that the map was not only to solve the queue problems but they were also testing some concepts. I do believe one of those concepts was to group servers on a match just as Eotm doeas based on the color the server is representing in the moment.
Megaserver worked pretty well for PvE, I belive they will do something similar in WvW, maybe creating random alliances high tiers and low tiers servers.
I think merging is a need right now, but I also understand that losing server identity is not cool, if we had a solution that kept this identity would be nice, thats why I would vote for creating alliances and keep people on their original servers.

So ANet you guys made this post giving us some hope you would give us more feedback about what you guys are planning for wvw… etc. etc… we have more than 2 weeks since new maps were released a lot of critics, ideas, opinions… and you guys just keep silent.
I know that you have this rule of only speaking when you are 99.99% sure of it… but can you guys at least say “We are reading this, we are aware of the issues you guys are complaning about, the next steps for wvw will be…” even if you do not have dates now at least let us know what you are thinking for the future.

I really hope DH will not be nerfed beacuse of sPvP, I do understand some of the crying because when it comes to defend a point trappers are pretty strong and DH trapps hit hard depending on the build, trapper Rangers were already strong but as they depend more on condition the impact is not so “fast”.
You have to adapt to fight trappers defending points, there are several ways to do that, it is harder than other classes, but not so OP as people claiming. The main issue is that people wants to jump in the point and hit like crazies with no consequences, people do not want to think just to hit 2 like a boss.
As said above the concept looks fine, I would not make reward related to the tier… this will only make people bandwagon more and more.
For me there must be two kinds of rewards, individual and server. individual reware could work exactly as sPvP reward tracks, and they should reflect your playstyle… lets say:
Defender track: you get points whenever you defend any spot, keeps could give more points as they are more important, you could get points whenever you repair something, when you run a dolyak, and other stuff that may help in defending your territory.
Offensive track: you get points by killing people, destroying enemy siege, killing dolyaks, sentries, and getting ppt stuff.
When you complete the track you get a reward, it could be something unique for wvw like special skins, etc. etc.
For server reward there should have a participation track where it measures how much you helped your server by defending, conquering, killing enemies no matter what is your individual track… in the end of the match according to your server position (first, second or third) you geta reward and the higher your paticipation higher the chances of getting special rewards.
It is just something I thought about today, very raw idead yet… but it is something I would like to see in wvw.
This is as patently false as it gets. Anyone who knows anything (esp about low silver/bronze) knows communities vary MASSIVELY between servers. I’ll give concrete examples:
-Mag is full of trolls and #fites players.
-NSP is full of community-oriented players.
-EBay is full of kind spirited players who treat each other exceptionally well (generally).
-Dh is full of very “internet-esque” players if you know what I mean (lots of memes, lots of hashtags, very non-serious personalities).Those are just a few that come to mind. Servers all have all kinds of different people, but there is a palbable difference from server to server. It’s more pronounced in certain servers, where servers like SF and SoR might be hard to distinguish in culture save by the fact that SF has more hispanics… but if you were to compare NSP to Mag it would be night and day absolutely.
I agree with this one… servers somehow have a “personality”, and you have read them well… when my guild left SoR we chosed YB because it was well known for a mature community and for their persistence in defending stuff on WvW. It changed a little bit because of transfers people are not defending stuff as before but in essence it is still the same. Merging would change it for sure… but I still think it would be better for the WvW community as a whole.
And I have to say EBay really have a great and nice community, a lot of cool people there, I stayed there for a month or so but left to stay with old friends that created a guild in another server.
Sad as it sounds, last week or two DK – pve + RL. This week DK – wvw. I know people make fun of DK, but he is the one with the maxed out friends list and does a massive call to arms (like the map shouts in LA of days gone by). Those call to arms work for the Pvx crowd…..
Oh and we are very high again this afternoon…..
Not sure why players make fun of DK as he is a very good pug-mander and does rally a lot of players. He also wins a lot of open field fights. Having been on a half dozen servers I find him to be a very good commander overall.
As for YB being open, not sure of their algorithm but I am guessing it is based on last weeks numbers. YB’s population could falter again but it would still take weeks to fall as I mentioned above.
Never saw a single YB player making fun of DK, we all respect him a lot and he is indeed one of the best commanders I have followed in all servers I have been.
To be clear, I don’t want high tier players moving down to lower tiers, we don’t need “that kind” in our community. But the whingers in the lower tier should transfer up if they’re not happy in our communities.
1. No, nor do we want or expect all servers to be “full” all the time.
2. Are you referring to the current situation? If yes, then I would say most people are grinding masteries in PvE, which would explain a drop in players in WvW. I don’t play during NA prime-time, nor have I spent any time in T1 WvW, but it seems highly unlikely that T1 would be “dead”.
Everyone is claiming that their server is “dead” and forced to face other servers with much greater numbers. Well, if all servers are “dead”, then which server is everyone referring to that has great numbers? And why don’t you move to that server?
3. It’s a little different for each person, but personally the main appeal of smaller populations is that I feel like my contribution matters more, as opposed to being a drop of water in a vast laggy ocean.

I think I could not explain well what is the issue to me… my point is that no matter what server I could go the problem would be the same… empty maps. As I said before I do not care about zergs… I like small groups and roaming but right now not even that is possible but in EBG, I like EBG but not enough to stay hours and hours there…. I do not hate the new borderland, I just think it needs people playing it. And as I see a lot of people complaining about empty WvW I think merging is a good idea.
I agree that empty maps might change in a few days with people coming back from PvE content, but I am not so sure… I also understand server pride and how it feels when your server dies to be merged in another one… I went through that in other games, but all merges I have been through were better for the game than worse.
Lets see how WvW goes in the next weeks.
Expectation management: It seems everyone in this thread have different opinion of what is a “healthy population”, I think you should agree on that before discussing further. Some examples I’ve seen used here:
A) Activity in EBG
B) Activity on multiple/all maps
If people can’t agree what is a “healthy population”, they will never agree on server merges or any other topic regarding this.
The only sign we have of what ANet thinks about this, is their new population caps. Anyone got some rough estimations for how much activity these locks up at ? (my own server is nowhere near the caps to find this out).
For me healthy population is when all 3 servers of the match have a good number of players in all maps, I dont care about blobs or zergs, but if you at least have some few small groups and roamers around and it will not take more than 30 minutes for something to happen it is close to good.
I will not quit because WvW is the main reason I play the game… 80% WvW, 15% sPvP, 5% PvE.
But it is a hard time to play wvw with so many leaving or focusing in PvE for now.
And could someone from Anet at least make a comment here to say… “Yes we can think about it…. or no…. there is no way we are doing this next year”.
Because if you guys say there is no chance this will happen this discussion ends now.

Do you guys really believe that we have enough WvW players to fill 24 servers?
Transfering will not solve my issue… I am on t1 that should be full of players and WvW is empty, borderlands almost dead… going to a lower server will not solve it… I have no problem with my server, the problem is WvW as a whole… it is empty even roaming sucks on the borderlands, EBG is not so bad but I would not like to have only one viable map…
I would like to understand why you guys think WvW is good as it is now. What exactly is this playstyle you guys are defending so hard that is working on the server you are now? If you dont mind to explain it.
Well this may be your opinion and I understand that some people prefer things the way they are today, but I see a lot of lower tier players asking for a merge and a solution for population balance.
I have played in a lot of diffetent tiers I began in Darkhaven, passed through Crystal Desert, Enhry Bay, SoR, and now I am in YB since april 2014, so I know enough about lower tiers and high tiers to say that the majority of people want a merge.
Every time the server merge issue comes up, those who support it either:
1) Can’t afford to transfer to a more populated server.
2) Are already on a more populated server but want more manpower to give them an edge over other servers.I have never transferred servers, nor do I want to. The server I play on has had players come and go, and even large player exodus doesn’t change the core community feeling that we get. Why should people who have the option of transferring to a server that offers them what they want get to force us to choose between quitting WvW or engaging in a play style we don’t like? The day they introduce server merges for WvW is the day I quit WvW.
The topic of server merges pops up frequently, and I have never, absolutely never, seen a good explanation why a server merge is needed when players still have the ability to transfer servers.
Empty maps and unbalanced matchs are not enough as an explanation? I think that if we had fewer servers those issues would not be completely solved but would be much better than now.
I do not want more man power just to have an edge over other servers, I just want maps that are not dead and you take 30 minutes to find an enemy, I do not like to PvD empty towers and keeps… just that. If t1 is like this I cant imagine lower tiers are any better. So I think transfering will not do any difference right now.
I understand server pride and that communities dislikes the server merge idead but your community would not be affected it would only get more people, guilds would not be separated, I cant see how a merge would destroy it. And I really dont get it how your playstyle would be affected…
If you’re whining about needing a server merge because the game feels too dead in your matchup, transfer, it’s 500 gems to get to a t5 server which is fairly lively or 1k to get to t3 which is very lively. Don’t ask anet to kill a legitimate style of play because you’re too cheap/lazy to improve your experience yourself. That’s downright scummy to do.
If you’re whining about needing a server merge because you’re in t1-2 and think the poor uncivilized heathens in low tiers need your protection, please go away. Your opinion is not wanted and not helpful in any way. Unless you have experience in these tiers, leave the discussion to those who this would actually effect, specifically t6-8.

Hey Anet, as you guys talked in other post about population issue, is there any chance of servers merging? After 3 years I think 24 servers is too much, I understand this on launch but the playerbase is stabilized you probably got more people with HoT and some coming back but I am sure not enough for 24 wvw servers (for PvE it doesnt matter since megaserver).
So can you at least respond us if merging the servers is a possibility? Is this something you guys are thinking about maybe for the next year?
Right now it is pretty bad for roaming not because the design of the map (my opinion after playing it for some time), the problem is that few people are playing it.
I usually have to run around for at least 30 minutes to find someone… it is starting to get better but far from good, as you get used to the map and learn the shortcuts you start to get faster at the right places, sentries help finding enemies, buffs from shrines help a lot specially speed. I really hope it will get better if numeber of players increases.
I can see a sea of tears from ktrain people… lots of “gold” and “platinum” ranked heores.
Eotm became a farm fest and it is a complete separated game mode. I confess that I went there a good number of times to level alts and recently to farm heroe points. But other than the map current state is useless for roamers and defenders.
Talking about the map design I like it, and think it could be fun if it was included in the regular wvw with ppt, it would be nice to have maps with different styles that demands different strategies as desert and eotm does.
I have been talking about having the 4 maps in regular wvw instead of 3 clone borderlands, servers does not need home borderlands, they all could be like EBG or Eotm, just the spawn and a keep with wp close to it. No citadels are needed let us conquer it like we do with SM.
I used to play medi a lot, specially for wvw roaming, but I have not tried it yet with DH. Saw a vide from a guy in beta that did it but he did not used traps only the med utilities.
I might try it later today, probably shelter for healing, judgments intervention and 2 traps, and renewed focus for elite.
I used to play condition only and than switched to power….
I did not tested condition reaper yet, just power… but I had a nice meeting with a cond reaper in wvw and now I really think going back to condition, pretty strong.

Haha no. None of your ideas would work. There is no way entire EU or NA would fit on 4 maps. It would also do nothing against nightcapping. Instead of a server being stacked, a color will be stacked – which already happen in EOTM where certain servers dominate coverage.
Maybe… so create more than 1 match… keep the tiers and merge some servers… I dont know… but something must change. There is no way we need 8 tiers now, 3 tiers may be enough.
Some might say we would lose server identity… but I prefer to have good matchs with people playing then the current situation… and this game is about guilds not servers our identities and loyalty should stick to the guilds.
I would go far… take the Eotm idea where you do not defend a server but a team, it could start just like the same maybe by server current color and then they could make a better way to select in what team you will be, this way guilds could still stick together.
Make all maps like EBG and Eotm, no team is the owner of the borderlands, all of them would have 3 spawns, no citadel…. with that we would have a large wvw population and we could have 4 maps Eotm, EBG, Desert and Alpine all counting to PPT. I think 4 maps would be enough to hold everyone, if not keep a version of Eotm as instance for queues with not ppt.

I would like to see some love for spirit weapons, I really like the concept and would like to try then with DH spec… longbow and spirit weapons could make a good combination.
One thing I really dont get is why they have a limited time? When they could not be destroyed long time ago I understood they should existis for a short perido, but now that they have a life bar why they cant be like Necros minions?
One line I would like to see fixed is spirtual weapons, I like the concept but they really never worked… I can not understand why Necro can have minions that lasts until killed and even heal out of combat and our weapons have a limited time of existence… for me they should be treated just the same.

There are issues about the new map but I also think people are over reacting to it… The few times we had a commander with some people on the map we had very good fights. But most people are not even trying to learn it, I am not sure if it is because they are busy with new content and unlocking elite specs, or masteries, or because the map is that bad.
In YB most of the usual commanders are off, looks like they decided to take a break. Even EBG is quite empty now.
I think auto upgrade and some other mechanics are more harmfull to wvw than the map itself.
Play both for a while and then decide for yourself… My main is Guardian and although I have played all other classes I always come back for it and any new stuff I get with him first, DH is quite fun to play.
I have started to play the Revenant this week and I like it, specially staff skills I find it pretty fun.
In resume… GW2 is pretty easy to level and get gear even if you dont have much time to play, make both and have fun.
