Rangrorn Charr Necromancer
Ultimate Legion [UL]
Warriors warriors everywhere!!!!
2×1 on WvW is not fair for sure… but yes it is legal… as some others said before me it is war and sometimes alliances are needed.
I am totally against it when it is dealt even before the match begins… but ANet cant do anything about it.
It is worthless to put the blame on pvers, kitten, Twhatever… the issue is WvW was not ready for this kind of influx, we already had queues and skill lag before rewards or season…
ANet knew about it and they should had foreseen it would get much worse with season and rewards. The new instanced map for people in queues should have been a priority before season, the skill lag issue that they already working on should be high priority.
So instead of accusing each other we should focus on asking ANET for a solution, I would ask them to cancel season and bring it back after those issues are solved at least the new map for queue.
The season and rewards ideas are great and I tottaly support it, but WvW was just not ready for it right now…
It would be cool to have a female Lich form.
I would love to play MM build if the kittening minions had at least a peanut brain… but not even that… they take too much time to do anything… and I dont think their habilities are so usefull… sometimes I only use the Flesh Golem… he is stupid but it is fun when he knocks people down.
About survivability both Warrior and Guardian are pretty good depending on the build, I am still leveling my Warrior (55 now), so I am no specialist… but as far as I can see you can be quite tanky as a Warrior and still do a good damage, this is more complicated on Guardians. In the end playstyle will decide…
For PvE choose the one you feel more confortable… looks like you prefer the Guardian so go with it.
I always liked offensive support classes, thats why my first char was a Guardian… but my main focus on the game is WvW roaming.. and it is hard to be Guardian roamer… so now on WvW I prefer the Necro leaving the Guardian for dungeons and sometimes when I run with my guild in larger groups in WvW.
Sticky on the main discussion page. Looks like we can expect some relief in the patch next week.

Thanks!
I would like to get the attention of the devs with one simple question:
What are you guys doing about the skill lag issue?
I like Spectral Walk when I need to escape… I pop it and run, people run after me… wait 3 or 4 seconds and teleport behind then… usually it takes some precious seconds for them to understand what happened and you can go to the oposite side.
Of course it doesnt always work…
And then they just leap or port to you and you are back where you started.
As I said it doesnt always work… but you will be amazed that it works much more than expected… some people doesnt even look behind to check if you are there.
Fact is WvW was not designed for roamers… so you can not expect to get better rewards than a large group… as you can only get smaller objectives that gives smaller rewards and thats makes sense. At least for me.
I am a roamer myself, I dont like to follow zergs but I never expected to receive the same reward a zerg gets when they conquer a keep for example or a karma train for dozens of towers. I cant remember of any mmo where you can do more money alone or in small groups than larger ones.

Just give us a little bit more of base HP… just that.
I use Undead and I am very happy with it.
Welcome back to Necros!
I make Asche words mine… for roaming conditions are great (I use it), but if you are going for larger fights power is better.
Reroll… try thief or mesmer.
Necros are not designed to be runners, we are designed for attriction and survival. I roam a lot in WvW and yes many times I have mobility problens but this is our weak point and every class has one, if you cant get used to it just reroll.
If a class has mobility, high damage, high survival, it becomes OP and boring… thieves know about it
(thieves dont get mad just kidding with you guys).
1. Game modes
2. Leaderboards
3. Rewards
I will not mention GvG because in my personal opinion it should not be part of WvW, I think it should be a new game mode in sPvP. I have nothing against GvG indeed I love the idea but WvW is just not the place for it.
So my main issues now are:
1) Skill Lag
2) Commander tools, or please give us a guild squad tool, let us know where our guildmates are without needing to have a commander tag…
3) Rewards for the winning server, few people care about PPT nowadays, winning means nothing.
9/10 nice skin.
When I created my Necro I wanted it to be like a demon, so I made a Charr.
You did not mention if it is for PvE, sPvP or WvW… but no minion is quite the default in all of them, sometimes I see minion Necros on PvE but on the other game modes it is quite rare.
About Staff it is possible, but most Necros use staff as it is our best weapon for AoE and have a good CC.
I already used power necro with axe and focus, and now I am condition necro using scepter and dagger, but the staff is always there as second option.
(edited by albotelho.2931)
I like to see Elementalists and Thieves crying because we are the “new OP” class… it makes me laugh.
I think the fact is Necros are hard to play, and there are a lot of bad necros around… so people was used to find us easy prey… but now those that are already experienced necro players got some buffs and are competitive and people are getting scared of if… just a matter of time to people to get used to it and learn how to fight us.
I dont care… I do not use Terror… but I love dhuumfire!
I have played Necro as my main for a very long time, this patch did not made us OP, but helped a lot for conditionmancers, at least for me… I am having a lot of fun bleeding and burning people down… torment is cool but it is far from OP, we have it in one skill only and the damage is not that great.
Poor little thief died bleeding, burning and tormented… oh so sad.
so basically a fifth WvW map with no objectives (and therefore no reason to go there unless you just want to fight for the fun of it)? this doesn’t sound technically difficult.
lol, you could put the entry portals to this new map behind the windmills on each of the three borderlands maps (so as to avoid cluttering up the spawn point with portals that most players won’t care about).

I think this is not WvW this is sPvP for Guild vs Guild… something missing in this game… it would be amazing.
How are these guys even in T1 with us. Our zerg vs their zerg we won every single time. You guys never took anymore than 5 casualties. We wiped you out utterly. Atleast in EB. How does the ranking system work, because I’ve had more intense fights with Henge of Denravi. The loot bags were great, but it was just a slaughterfest.
Blackgate.
And the Troll Oscar goes to…
Amazing video. Gratz.
I use PVT armor and Knight accessories and weapons, and it is working great.
I think it is usefull in WvW specially on borderlands where you have lots of cliffs. It saved my life sometimes, remember that you will not always have DS up.
I also moved from a scepter/dagger condition build to axe/focus power build and I am much more happy now in WvW.
Conditions are fun, but I feel it is too easy to get rid of conditions, the axe can do a good job if used correctly. I havent tried the dagger as main hand yet but I will.
My build is 30/20/20/0/0, PVT for amor, Knight accessories and Knight weapons. I get a good toughness rate, can keep about 45-50% of critical chance, about 3200 of Power and 22K of life.
And Staff is always my second weapon.
Seriously speaking now… I do not think Thief is so owerpowered… but I find it quite boring to fight thieves because of all those stealth skills… the hability to hide in plain sight is a little bit strange for me… I think it would be better to give them a long time invisible skill so they can move in stealth but after the first attack they should not be able to get invisible again untill they left attack mode… just my opinion.
…Stealth does barely anything, I often slay enemy thieves while they are stealthed by predicting their movement.
Not sure if serious…
Thanks for making this post, albotelho. My friends and I have been wondering the same thing. We have been on SoR since the first day of the headstart. We prefer small group skirmish game play (that isn’t spent babysitting a node) and are finding it harder to do so in Tier 1. The random (yet frequent) skill lag is making it even worse and some have talked about quitting GW2 all together because of it.
No problem
.
Hope you guys do not give up from the game.
This whole WXP thing isn’t helping the pure-zerg entality either.
You do not get WXP for sentrying.
You do not get WXP for running yaks.
You do not get WXP for ticking siege.
You do not get WXP for building siege.
You do not get WXP for repairing when not under attack. So, what’s left? Run around with the big zerg. Pfffft.
I dont think all these actions should give you WXP, imagine those “spies” that build rams just to drain our supplies he would gain WXP for that… dont think it would work well.
I really did not paid attention to WXP quantity, but probably you gain more for attacking than defending… they could change this… give more WXP for defense.
I am not sure if I understood what you meant about sentrying, but getting sentries spots does give you WXP.
The zergs are just as big in every tier.
There are just more of them the higher you go in tiers.
Thats exactly the kind of information I want to confirm, that it is not that different in the lower tiers, I am not planning to move out of t1 now but if there were a great difference in the middle or lower tiers I could consider the idea. I understand that zergs are the most effective way to win fast, and sometimes it even can be fun, but it is not my favorite playstyle.
If you’re on SOR then you will notice it even more. Many guilds in SOR have admitted in the past on the forum that they insisted on clumping everyone together in 70+ zergballs since it helps them win open field fights.
If I recall, some even say that they will never split up to defend objectives since they play to win open field fights and having these 70+ zergballs is the most effective way to fight. Their strategy with these 70+ zergballs is that it allows them to overwhelm their opponents in numbers for every fight, especially if the other server run multiple havoc groups or split up to take multiple objectives.
A few guilds from other servers have requested SOR to split up on the forums due to the skill lag issue but SOR basically rejected the idea of splitting up their 70+ zergballs.
Never heard of that… but I will not deny it, I see a lot of big zergs on SoR, but it is not different from BG and JQ. Both have incredible large zergs that I dont see spliting up in any moment.
I still can find some rare small groups on T1, even some lone roamers… but it is very rare and usually it is a thief… and for me as a Necro, my opinion, it is very boring to fight thieves…
I almost always survive their first burst, but then it is like cat and rat fight, they keep vanishing all the time, they run like crazy, and all that mobility skills… and I dont have all that damage to kill it very fast… and so he goes far enough heals and comes back, vanhishes, goes away and comes back… boring like hell… so usually I just decide to move away.
Hey, I am on SoR since last november when it was a T2 server but I played on Darkhaven and EBay before… I remember that there were always zergs in all tiers I have passed but lately T1 is a little too much zergy, maybe it is because of culling fix and now I can really see it as it is… but I feel that now people on T1 are even more likely to follow big groups than roam in small ones.
My question is how is it now on other tiers? Is that so different from T1 I see people from all tiers complaining about zergs… would be cool if we could have some reports about the behavior of zergs in each tier here.
PS: I would like to add that I am not completely against zergs, although I prefer small groups fights and avoid zergs I know that they are needed sometimes.

I dont think there is an official double team happening in T1.
Well I can say for what I see in SoR, and never have a Commander tell us to do anything to help or double team with any other server, not in chat and not in the server TS.
What happens sometimes is that when we realize that JQ or BG is attacking each other we have an opportunity to get stuff that is not protected because of these fights, and so we attack by flanking the other side. It may look like double team but it is not, just as this weekend JQ and BG attacked us at the exact same time a lot of times… really gave us the feeling that it was a double team specially when JQ was camping our EB spawn area while BG attacked Overlook.
So sometimes we try to take advantage from a situation but we dont have an alliance or any kind of pact with any other server. And I think is the same for BG, I do not think they have a “dark pact” with JQ.

As albotelho stated, use Well of Suffering. Additionally, if you’re using staff, you can use it in a variety of ways to improve survivability. Here are a few suggestions:
1) Always cast staff #2 (Mark of Blood) as soon as it’s recharged as it gives you regeneration (you must be standing inside the mark when an enemy triggers it to benefit from the regeneration, though). It doesn’t hurt that it causes bleeding to your enemies, as well.
2) Place staff #3 (Chilblains) followed by staff #4 (Putrid Mark). Chilblains is a poison field while Putrid Mark is a blast finisher. The two together create an Area Weakness combo which will reduce the damage output of your enemies.
3) Alternately, you can cast Well of Suffering and follow it up with Putrid Mark. Well of Suffering is a dark field. The blast finisher of Putrid Mark inside that field creates Area Blindness.
4) Whenever you have sufficient life force to do so, enter Death Shroud and use Life Transfer to hit up to 5 enemies for some decent damage. Try to time it at the same time they are inside your Well of Suffering.
5) If you would like to keep your opponents nearly perma-weakened, bring Corrosive Poison Cloud as a utility. This skill causes weakness to those caught inside of it. It will also cause weakness to you. This is NOT a bad thing. To turn this to your advantage, cast Putrid Mark inside the AoE of Corrosive Poison Cloud. CPC is a poison field and Putrid Mark’s blast finisher will interact with it to create an Area Weakness combo (5 additional seconds of weakness).
Furthermore, Putrid Mark transfers conditions (all of them) from you to your enemies; you will transfer the self-inflicted weakness of CPC onto your opponents, as well.
Opening with Chilblains (which causes the chill condition) and then following up with Putrid Mark will help ensure they remain caught inside your CPC for a longer period of time. Since CPC pulses, you want them to remain within it’s perimeter for as long as possible to maximize the length of the weakness and poisoning this skill causes.
6) Unlock Consume Conditions as your healing skill as soon as possible. It removes all conditions from you and heals you for more for each condition consumed.
7) Staff #1 (Necrotic Grasp) pierces; you can hit up to 3 enemies with it. Practice lining up opponents to maximize this ability. Another suggestion is – when facing multiple enemies – target one near the back. Then kite around while attempting to keep the other mobs between you and your target; this improves your chances of hitting multiple opponents.
Outside of the suggestions regarding weakening opponents, I don’t have suggestions regarding conditions as I don’t use them. This isn’t meant to start a debate or flame war about the pros and cons of conditions. I can certainly see their usefullness if that’s the kind of necro you want to play; especially against PvE mobs. It’s just not my personal play style.
I prefer Blood Magic which – despite it’s disappointing implementation in this game when compared to its predecessor in GW1 – I’ve found to provide decent survivability when you are finally able to unlock the Vampiric and Bloodthirst traits. Those small but constant ticks of life siphoning with every hit can help keep you alive through all the PvE mobs.
Just know that if you go this route, you have to be aggressive with your fighting style. Your sustain comes from constantly hitting your enemies; the more the better. Stacking wells, marks, and then getting up close and personal with dagger and warhorn’s Locust Swarm so you’re getting in as many hits as you possibly can in the shortest amount of time. If that’s not your style, then go with conditions and Epidemic. This will permit you to put distance between yourself and the mobs while killing them with the damage-over-time of your conditions.
Lastly, if you decide to try some of these suggestions, find a neutral animal like a moa or a deer to practice on. Since they won’t aggro on you due to close proximity, this gives you time to set up your marks in advance without having to worry about coming under attack while doing so. This will permit you to more easily witness the synergies of the combo fields and finishers while practicing the timing of when to cast what skills and in what order.
Good luck.
This is a class of how to play a Necro… nice tips on the combination of skills for combos. Gratz.
This thread should be a sticky. I bet a lot of necros found these helpful. ^^
Agreed this should be a sticky. The Necro community is the best of all professions communities thanks to Bas, Nemesis and many other players. Thank you guys.
When I was leveling I could handle groups of mobs easily using wells… Well of Suffering does a lot of damage and mobs are dumb enough to stay in its area.
I agree that upgrading a camp is not worth the money because they are very easy to get, but it was already possible to get camps with small groups before, the new update does not make all that difference in this case.
This is my current build for WvW farming. In short it pumps out very decent damage whilst being pretty much unkillable when played right.
When building a Power Necromancer i typically always aim to hit 50% critical chance before adding the rest into survivability.
For a solo or roaming power i would build something like this there is no one set fits all for us, its best to mix and match to find the best results that suits you, but typically aim for offensive ascended, defensive exotic, 50% crit chance.
That’s exactly the kind of build I am using right now. Focusing on having 50% critical chance with 3000 or more of power and it is doing great so far.
I use PVT armor that I got with WvW badges, my current accessories are still Power Prec. Condition Damage, from my previous condition build, I will change then for Knight (Power Prec. Toghtness).
I am really happy with this build, having high values of toughness made a lot of difference for me.
I also think that fear do not need to be a Necro only skill, but it should be much more effective for Necros.
It make me nervous when I see a thief steal my fear and it lasts more than our regular one. We should not need to invets so much in runes to make fear effective.
How does But of Corpse works? Any necro from any server is accepted? Do I need to represent the guild all the time or we can just use it as a kind of secondary guild to meet with other fellow necros.
99 percent of the guild never represents except during All-Necro Events. The rest of the time they represent their WvWvW, tournament, or friend guild. Only 3 or 4 actively represent regularly.
Any Necro from any server is able to join. It’s simply there for other necros to find help and connect with other players or to talk shop with other necros. Just about every single member is more than willing to take some time to explain or just converse with other players via pm.
We only ask that you represent when we are doing recordings of All-Necro events.
Great. I will look for you guys when I am on-line. Thanks.
