I use a build with axe/axe and axe/shield, and i just swing like a nutter when they go into stealth. I know I’m hitting them if my 1 combo succeeds. Killed many thieves and mesmers with this build. Axe is just great for hitting someone in stealth because of the large range and angle of attack, something no other warrior weapon has. Not to mention eviscerate is a killer burst skill.

So what if the Backstab build is not nerfed?

meh getting killed by a backstab thief is a little over rated, you get killed if you stay put and wait for him to open
…use defensive abilities if u see the thief so nice to see them backstab you for 0 damage
or backstab your shield

I don’t remember which skill it was, but my elementalist got hit for 14k damage in one hit by a warrior too, and I had actually toughness gear stacked to avoid getting 2-shotted.. didn’t work out :-p

It’s just weird you had not run into it, HB warriors are so common. That skill that makes you swing and swing roots the warrior in place, so if you break stun and evade, you rarely take full damage. The other option is that you were rooted, in which case condition removals will help. Warriors in that build rarely have stability so you can interrupt after breaking the stun, or if you are rooted.

Actually they are immune during the stolen whirling axe. The reason they are immune is they can dodge multiple times, more than just the 2 due to traits. The spin keeps going and doing damage and because they’re dodging they won’t take damage.

So for all intensive purposes they ARE invulnerable. Maybe you had no idea about this Calysto, or you just don’t want to bring this fact to everyone’s attention so it receives the nerf it should do (not even a nerf, if you dodge it should cancel a move.)

Hop on over to a thief whilst they have dagger storm up? Oh my. They can move and the dagger snares you and damages. So you walk crippled trying to chase them and end up taking more damage and bleeding and even IF you clear the snare (not the bleed) you will be resnared….

There is not really a technique to avoid taking a 5k C+D, followed by an insta steal for 5k followed by an instant back stab for a minumum of 10k. That’s pressing 3 buttons (oh and the sigil for the backstab). So the word easily should never come into it if you’re playing against any thief who isn’t absolutely awful.

As HArrier said, you will most likely eat the steal and c+d, it’s at this point you have to throw up shield or endure pain. Dodging can be hard, because of the basilisk venom, it’s a last resort if shield 5 or endure pain is down.

What’s better, to run away whilst they burn whirlwind and daggerstorm? or sit there taking 10k more damage and not being able to hit back. This is why you’re losing. Judge when to attack and when not to attack. Same applies to fighting every class. Warriors arn’t rambo, that’s guardians.

We’re more hit and run currently.

I actually think they cant be hit or have high evade chance. I know i have hit them in melee when they do daggerstorm. However, yesterday a thief stole from me, I then proceeded to do whirlwind next to him doing whirlwind and at least it did not look like he tried to evade, but he evaded my whole whirlwind while I ate the damage. I also thought it was invul only against ranged attacks but at least the “stolen” whirlwind made me miss all my melee attacks. I have to check more accurately on my thief how that skill actually works.

Did thieves need a nerf? yes probably they did.

HOWEVER! I seriously object against further nerfing of the class since it will end up killing it. Has any of you sissy silly whiners ever tried to PLAY a thief? it is not mindless spamming, if you do mindless spamming you get killed.
Which takes me to stealth, I cried also for a stealth detection utility or something of sorts, however, after I played thief I notice that if i focus on stealth i am garbage in damage, I am only good at escaping fights, that’s about it.
Can I kill as thief? of course, that’s the point of the whole class, pick a weak opponent and finish him. But chances are that if someone has played against thieves, they know how to counter my abilities, I got screwed by some good players (especially necros). And by using the thief I learned how to counter them on my warrior. Now I rarely lose 1v1 vs thieves in SPvP. WvW is a totally different world. And I can’t say I have learned to play vs thieves here. They still mostly own me, basically because my wvw build is way different than my spvp build.

I took chest and legs Pw/Vt/Tg rest of the pieces knights set with soldier runes. This is awesome in wvw and dungeons. Good survival and cond removal.

Working on a 2nd set now but no idea what I will get.

For s-pvp the sky is the limit, focus it around your build.

why would you spend money on exotics when you can test builds in Spvp? for FREE

depends on your build and experience, warrior can pack some nice damage and survivability but you have to know what you are fighting against. Predict movements, so on and so forth.

In other words I suck a lot less now than I did at the begining, and you will suck less too if you keep on learning.

Boons say what stacks,
Fury stacks duration, as does swiftness, might stacks power as does confusion, vulnerability, bleeds, etc.

best way to know if u hit a thief in stealth is use your 1 skill on any weapon, if the skill hits your 2nd ability would be activated. Doesn’t work on ranged abilities but oh well at least something we can do on melee about it. Spinning axes is the best when they go into stealth.

I thought thieves were OP, then I played with one.
Yes they dish out tons of damage, yes they have stealth. It takes some time but fighting against glass cannon thieves gets easier and easier as you play more spvp, and come into your own build.
In 8v8s it you are a lot more vulnerable to being killed by thieves because there are lots of chaotic fights but having fought some of them 1v1 i can honestly say they arenot terrible, you just need the right build. (1v1 oriented builds work great against thieves)

You can’t clear the mobs unless the party is geared with exotics. I’ve tried the clear strat with people in yellows and you just don’t have enough damage to clear them without eventually getting overwhelmed. I guess only teams geared in exotics can escape the mandatory death repairs of magg.

I seriously doubt gear is an issue here, build >>> gear

I respect what you guys said but I am not satisfied with your responses. There should be more easy difficulty options for all dungeons. I am not happy having my level 63 dual axe wielding ranger dying in one hit or even three. My weapons & armor are all rare so is my longbow. My area of effects spells include burning & poison. My elite skill is to rampage alongside my pet.

The level scaling really bites and is counter-intuitive to rpgs where you are supposed to be able to dominate lower level enemies. The whole point of grinding and seeing every nook in the world. Granted a veteran and a champion are allowed to be tougher. But ordinaries should not be bosses or mini-bosses.

Thats a very incoherent sado masochistic approach to accept this level of difficulty. Playing should be a reward not tedious, die and die again because an opponent is spamming some cheap move and built like a tank.

That honor should be reserved for the player only as this is a fictional, fantasy game to be enjoyed and played for fun.

Add easy, and super easy difficulty for all dungeons. And give an option to disable level scaling too. And get rid of the level cap if you want people to play longer.

I am whinging but I died six times before reaching the shooters and another three when half my party logged out because it was too ridiculous, too story breaking, to accept such a large number of deaths in such a short period. And when normal enemies take forever to whittle down thats the equivalent of chiseling a statue out of stone.

That was my first attempt at a “dungeon” in this game and it feels absolutely deflating.

This is not WoW, or any other game. Change your build, use dodge, control, support, survival; thats what you want in a dungeon. No need to make new posts about difficulty there are many….try harder and as my guild mates tell me “suck less”

Camera Smoothing

Please guys, the first thing that needs to be looked at is the camera being brought close to your avatar because of an object behind your character (and I don’t mean walls) I mean like a sack of grain or a carriage things like this that are totally crazy.

I would also think about allowing the camera to “look through” walls in PvE encounters that occur in very secluded areas.

Game was designed as Coop PvE, true PvPers do structured PvP, and if you want to, you can totally gank in WvW, if you can’t you are just not trying hard enough.

MAybe it’s a bug, they have said constantly that you should not get DR after doing only one run in less than 30 minutes. That the DR kicks in if you do more than 2 runs per hour so the DR should kick in in the third assuming it took you less than 1 hour to finish the first 2 paths

once you learn the classes downed state, it becomes easier and easier to kill them. They are still unbalanced but meh, who wastes time trying to stomp a mesmer, or thief these days…i just keep swinging and swinging and swinging while they wait for my stomp animation.

mmm Lohen, I think your build has potential!
I tried this, yes you dont stack defense but I used this some parts of knight gear to stack some toughness, and it works really well in my opinion. All of you guys condemning this build should try it.
Of course you suck 1v1, but that’s not what it is intended for, this is intended to be on point with the zerg behind you.
Start whirling in your team’s combo fields and watch stuff go down.
Real good build in my opinion.

I would be surprised at 5 warriors :P

0 combo fields. minimal healing. some condition removers. Add to that melee are relegated to ranged weapons ALOT and that’s not their bread and butter. Try running a condition heavy dungeon with 5 warriors.

the stats are not the same (assuming you are talking about the 3 sets sold by a single vendor)
the rare armors are supposed to be crappy looking, uniqueness comes from exotics.
the weapons also have different stats…

Try changing your builds to be more group and support oriented, not only damage. You are supposed to do them as a team. You can’t use your solo open world builds in dungeons. YOu should be able to CC the enemy, buff/debuff them and also deal damage.
Once you get a hold of that you will start succeeding.

After running 4 or 5 different dungeons i ended up having to use 5 of my bank spaces to store the token rewards. Then when finally I had enough tokens to get a determined piece, I had to go to the bank make sure I had enough tokens and then go to the vendor to get my piece of armor.
This is not an extremely pressing issue, or gamebreaking, however you could think about making a “token wallet” (similar to how the crafting collection storage works) that can be accessed from the token vendors. This token wallet could be made account wide, accessible with any of your chars.
Another possibility would be treating tokens as currency but this may cause devs more trouble to implement. Instead of receiving tokens from each dungeon as an inventory item, you would get it directly as an account wide currency. The problem would be that you would have about 9 or 10 types of currency and that can be a pain.

Most important thing whether you are specced for damage or not is your utilities. Choose utilities that make your whole party better. Or that can aid other members of your party when they need aid. Basically in dungeons you need to think of your team. Making 5 ppl get a 5% damage bonus is way better than making yourself get a 10% damage bonus, Making the whole party gain fury, might and vigor every 2,5 minutes is a lot better than having it yourself every 1 minute. I take the warrior examples since I play that in dungeons. But the same can be done by every other class in the game. If you make the party better you win. If all are partially support specced, the run will be a lot smoother, since all can deal damage and will be improved by the party buffs of other team mates.

On the off chance that Robert is keeping an eye on this, do you believe that implementing a system where we can “Save Progress” in a dungeon can be implemented? So that if you have spent hours and hours in the dungeon and not completed it, you can start at that point with your mates the next day? Would help in learning mechanics without the need to run the first half of the dungeon.

Sorry but I am not elite or whatever. This is implied in the fact that I have only pugged…. I hardly play 2 hours a day. If I can finish dungeons so can you.
The problem here is lazyness, lazyness to learn new mechanics, to understand such mechanics and to adapt. You just want easy loot and that’s no good. Exotic loot in the game is real easy to obtain, you can craft, you can get karma or you can run dungeons. Any of those will do. For me finishing dungeons is in itself a reward, especially if they are hard. The loot is collateral. I like playing the game most of all, doing all boss fights, no skips or exploits. I like that it is not overly easy, it just makes me feel that much better when I finally finish the dungeon. If you want a certain skin then you have to run dungeons.
I do believe that they need to increase loot rewards, maybe increase rare chance even more, but I think tokens need to stay as they are. Why would you be able to obtain a dungeon set without ever completing said dungeon?
I do think they need to implement a system where you can “save progress” in the dungeons, so that if you have been in the dungeon too long and are tired, you can start where you left off the day before with your mates. Then you can learn mechanics and in the end, when you finally finish you still get your reward.
Tokens for not finishing are just like giving dogs a steak for pissing in your carpet…

Keep 1 or 2 people throwing kegs towards the door like crazy while the other 3 run some of those kegs to the door, problem solved. (Bring aoe fear, and anything to clear mobs at the begining)

Don’t say things are flawed just because you find them hard and we won’t mistake your post with a rage…

I think your groups can be described by both laziness and ineptitude. I have only pugged in this game and out of 50 dungeons I started I have completed 48 which is a very good percentage. The problem is in the players not in the dungeons or devs. You are supposed to adapt to this game, the game is not supposed to adapt to you.

roles are stupid, if mobs were smart they would all kill the healer right away because he just can’t get away and has no survivability. Now everybody is kept on their toes. And you can melee, you just have to get good at it. You can’t melee forever, at some point you have to break out and heal but definitely possible to melee in this game. Not to mention the amount of damage you can do is awesome.
