The OP presents nothing resembling a credible argument. The OP is strictly resistance to change whining. Change is the only constant. Adapt of die.
This is no different than the 2v1 whines. Endure and overcome.
Or else, find something else to satisfy your need for accomplishment and self-efficacy.
WvW is a team sport. The current WvW scoring mechanism is adequate.
Now, the exemplary WvW achievement mechanism could use some attention (unless you happen to appreciate the 10-15 year projected effort required under the current system).
There is no justification for glorifying individuals for WvW participattion. If that is what you seek… if that is meaningful to you and/or you need that kind of stroking… sPvP is waiting for you.
[or… transfer to BG and get much lurve, long time]
(edited by amberlin.5124)
Wholly chao! This nonsense thread is still going?
Solution: Transfer to BG and all your worries will end and you no longer need to grieve PvF.
Less QQ more PewPew.
Lol Op does not play perma stealth thief, warrior, or Mesmer, but did manage to troll on this post!!
So you say. But you don’t speak for the OP now do you? PRETENDER! Uh huh. There. Take that. Na-na-nana-na!
Actually im player from EU server Piken Square and i got totally surprised last week when i go to Obisdian Sanctum for a WvW Tournament Achievment (also im a 100% wvw player).
EVERYONE were doing jumping puzzles. By saying everyone i mean all 3 servers, WITHOUT fighting each other. Especially at the stage with torches, there were something like 3-6 players from each server. At first I got scared that they are just making some traps there. But no! When I saw players from my server running with them (afer failing a jump) i realized that everyone are there just for the achievment. That was one of the best things i saw in this game. Community is just great.
One of the greatest moments was when i by accident lost my torch and players from OTHER server lights up path for me. And at the end of JP on top of the chest we were dancing together for a few minutes :P
I don’t believe you. I thought EU players had more sense than that.
A 100% WvW player would be embarrassed to admit such nonsense. You sir, are mistaken…. Let me help you.
What you really meant to say…
I’m a 100% wvw player. I take advantage of opportunity where it presents itself. However, after satisfying myself, if it is red…it is dead (unless I am JQ/TC). I will not allow the enemy an unnecessary advantage (unless I am JQ/TC). I will not jump, dance, eat, sleep or otherwise be happy with the enemy (unless I am JQ/TC).
One of my greatest moments what when an enemy lit my path for me… and I killed him for it and danced on his broken pathetic corpse.
That is… if you REALLY are 100% wvw.
Historically, a 100% wvw never wastes time with JPs unless the enemy is camped and mezzers are portaling.
Requesting anything for WvW is pointless. It won’t happen…
Must be a good day, the Loos is sounding more optimistic than usual.
People are making this way harder than it needs to be.
No, seriously!
What if I ate a french pastry, while my mates watched a Season 1 episode of Game of Thrones, during the execution of a limit trade for an ETF, as I was contemplating the virtue of transferring servers during the first week of Season 2 but before actually finalizing the posting of my legendary on the trade post…
…will ANet allow us to play WvW sometime in November while eating turkey or a suitable substitute?
You were ignorant of the consequences of your actions. You chose ignorance. And in this thread, you are choosing to argue your ignorance. Suffer the consequences.
Give me an example of a game where you are restricted from content due to server transfer.
You are attempting to spin to a strawman argument. Comparisons are not relevant.
Absolutely, it is about content restriction. It was well communicated.
Your opinion concerning “should” behavior is just that… an opinion — the premise of which, I believe, is predicated on ignorance.
The facts have been published and reprinted (in game and out, in the news and in the forums).
Reading the news/forum section of the website should not be mandatory.
It is not mandatory. There is no bar to play if YOU CHOOSE to play ignorantly.
Suffer the consequences of YOUR CHOICE… preferably in silence.
Sometimes, playing without any knowledge of new content patches is the most rewarding. Not everyone has the time or wants to read about the new updates from the website.
There is a difference between content patches and content restrictions. What ArenaNet did was add an unjustified restriction to WvW, 2 years after the game’s release.
The only choice I made was to transfer servers. So why are people saying that it’s justified for the players to be restricted from all of WvW because they payed for server transfers?
No, you chose to transfer servers — ignorantly. <-- adverb form of ignorant
ig·no·rant — /?ign?r?nt /
adjective
- lacking knowledge or awareness in general
- uninformed, uneducated or unsophisticated

The OP generated a poorly crafted topic/thread — replete with gender bias.
The thread has devolved into match-up quibbling and coffee-talk gossip.

We are aware of the problems with the WvW achievements and will be doing more to address them in the near future.
Feature update! Oh wait nvm -.-
Brilliant forum necromancy!
I am moved from epic cynicism to full on gem boycott. So sad.
The credibility of Devon’s word (and by association, all RED posts) are diminished. It is unfortunate that the net effect is to push RED further into silence.
I’d like to see an apology or an admission of failure to initiate a recovery of credibility. But I honestly believe that any RED moral/ethical compass will be trumped by the legal beagles or the bean counters. I won’t hold my breath… I hope I’m wrong.
There is a saying… “It takes a thousand ‘Atta-boys’ to make up for one ‘Ah-kitten!’”
<snipped> its just not that enjoyable, and its far from lucrative. This creates a downward spiral of people not logging in or leaving their server.
Interesting. You provide your own justification and illuminate the path.
Go into the light, Carol Anne!
Or are you befuddled by a desire for simultaneous consumption of confection and topping?
I just want the commander icon deleted entirely, so I can watch the fallout in map chats.
The braindead chaos that would follow would almost be worth the loss of the 100g investment.
Apparently, typing the word “kitten” (in all forms) is considered rude.
[edited to remove the kittens]
Every minute spent in the WvW forums is a minute not spent fighting.
Put your complaints back in your pants and go fight. Otherwise, vote with your feet instead of complaining about that which you don’t have any control.
<#insert screaming onomatopoeia>
Best wishes, Allie. The gender gap and misogyny in the gaming industry is offensive. As a skilled professional, you are a role model for young talent. I hope the journey ahead is very rewarding.
@Andrew Clear.1750 & @ManaCraft.5630:
Concerning the Warmachine move to Kaineng, you are both babbling nonsense.
From the outside, you are entitled to your nonsense. But your nonsense is myopic, ill-informed, and do not correlate with insider facts or the events at the time.
Your argument is not bolstered by your misrepresentation of Warmachine.

What is most amusing about your contribution is that you are completely clueless as to who you are “coaching.” And then there is the hypocrisy of your own forum warrior baiting…
“Do unto others as they do unto you… with lots of butter and sugar.” <— for the popcorn.
First rule of “Being Spawn Camped”:
- Don’t Fight At Spawn
You are being camped for a reason. It is either strategic, tactical, or mindless farming.
Which ever it is… the economics of continuing to fight at spawn are against you.
- Take another exit. Every spawn has three exits. Not all are ideal, but they exist.
- Go to another map. Rally to a larger force. Put pressure elsewhere.
- Wait. Pull out of sight and just wait. Campers are not typically patient.
If you are being camped for strategic or tactical reasons, you need to understand why. Perhaps it is because a nearby asset is the objective of assault. Camping is a legitimate tactic in this case. Perhaps the campers WANT you to move to another map because they are under 2v1 pressure. Camping is a legitimate strategy in this case.
If it is mindless farming? STOP feeding them badges.
If it is a “drive-by” zerg? STOP provoking them so they will move on…
THINK!
Shufflepants,
You have a history on the forums
Once you have someone’s ID you can whisper them or add them to your contact list.
- Some people troll (or friendly rib) the enemy. <— I do not endorse this behavior.
- Some communicate to resolve “issues” of diplomacy or inappropriate behavior.
- Some people have honest-to-goodness, real life friends on other servers.
Whispers between servers is common. I’m surprised this is a surprise to people.
There isn’t really any strategy we can learn from WM or anyone else on Kaineng right now. Literally all they do is set up an insurmountable amount of seige and tidal wave over their current opposition. I’m not saying they all suck or anything of the sort, but when the numbers are as skewed as they currently are, there is no need for strategy from the zerging force and thus nothing to really learn.
(/snipped the inappropriate stuff)
There is a lot to be said for practicing (that is demonstrating to proficiency) skills and behaviors. This is the foundation of “good practice” and inductive learning.
Learning how to make mistakes in a relatively safe environment is a skill in an of itself. Exceptional performers know this.
In order to grow and develop one must push outside one’s comfort zone. Growth opportunity is maximized when experimentation is combined with established “good practice” in an environment where post mortem analysis (introspection) and recovery is available and “affordable” (in terms of opportunity cost).
What you learn is up to you…
well, here’s the thing.
before WM, before RE/DE and the Neo alliance
We Kaineng was able to hold with DR.
as I have stated before, which ever tier DR can go, we can go as well, and I strongly believed that.
Kaineng is powerful enough without WM or RE/DE or the Neo alliance.
Sure, with them on board makes us even stronger, but without them, I’m sure we can still get out of T7 on our own.
So if you guys seriously think that Kaineng can get out of T7 just because of them? Then I’d suggest you think again.
At some point, the “me me me” really needs to become “we we we”.
Or is it [the] intention to diplomatically defecate on the dinner table every time we are about to have a community feast?
Recognize, [some people] used to be a big fish in a small pond. Now [those people] are just another fish in a very large pond.
History will only remember one of two things…
- success
- those who spoil about success
Which one, is up to the minority.
“A great man is always willing to be little.”
— Ralph Waldo Emerson
“I have three precious things which I hold fast and prize. The first is gentleness; the second is frugality; the third is humility, which keeps me from putting myself before others. Be gentle and you can be bold; be frugal and you can be liberal; avoid putting yourself before others and you can become a leader among men.”
— Lao Tzu
These things are known.
[ed-to depersonalize. The point is, tone down the anti-newcomer rhetoric. Tone down the chest-pumping and bigotry against WM, RE, and company. It’s disrespectful, hateful, and simply rude.]

@Klaytax & @Divine, I think you two are in violent agreement. Strange as it may seem.
There is nuance, but I think we are witness to a case of a “many flavors of vanilla” argument — and we might be losing sight of the fact that such a debate should focus on the substance of ice cream or cake. The social effects (cultural imperialism, behavioral steers, expectation shifts, etc) would make for a fascinating new thread. :P
Anywho, the 12/28 week is done, stick a fork in it. Time to eat new meat.
lets have fun, i guess. although i’m wondering why kaineng isn’t in a higher tier if they have this kind of force.
Yeah, I’ve been wondering the same thing myself over the past hour. From what I have read so far it sounds like a couple tier 1 guilds transferred to Kaineng in order to “train”.
Not sure what the full story is yet.
well that’s just fabulous. meanwhile, this training is completely skewing the gameplay
Short Pedestrian Answer: Because Kaineng has to earn it’s way up the ladder. Huge™ leaps in a single week are rare and normalized.
Deviation and Volitility are used by the Glicko 2 rating system (http://www.glicko.net/glicko.html). (/snipped)
Details have been requested so here’s the rest of what you need to understand how we’re using Glicko 2. These are fairly specific details so feel free to ignore them if you don’t get excited by math
Assume the shards are sA, sB, and sC. In order to handle a 3 way battle we treat each match as having two battles for each shard. So when calculating the new rating for sA the two battles are sA vs. sB and sA vs. sC. Likewise for sB and sC. Naturally, we do all the calculations before updating any of the data.
We use a Tau of 0.6 and a k of 1.0
In standard Glicko 2 scores are represented as 0.0 for a loss, 0.5 for a draw, and 1.0 for a win. We use a slightly modified version that takes into account score differential. I’ll explain how using the sA vs. sB battle as an example. To calculate the glicko score for sA in the sA vs. sB matchup we do the following:
sAPercent = sAScore / (sAScore + sBScore)
sAGlickoScore = (sin((sAPercent – 0.5) * Pi) + 1) * 0.5where sAScore and sBScore are the raw scores from the end of the match.
That last transform is easiest to visualize as a graph . Other than that it’s all standard Glicko 2.
Have fun doing the math!
It might be helpful for some to visit the Millenium GW2 Site and review both the current ratings and dig through historical data. How servers score and then subsequently percolate through the ranks becomes more obvious.
In other words, its not just how well or poorly a server scores but how well or poorly it scores relative to others on the charts when all data points are subject to dynamic forces.
As a snapshot in time, Kaineng needs it’s rating to go up 150 points relative to GoM to take first. That can change if GoM’s rating goes up or down.
In order for Kaineng to break into Tier 6, it needs approximately +165 rating points relative to Northern Shiverpeaks (again subject to change if NS’s rating goes up or down).
I acknowledge this is a crude view. My intention is to merely illuminate an interesting path… not to necessarily taxi you to enlightenment. Enjoy the journey.
Light, thank you for reporting on a particularly uplifting event. There is never a measure of skill to which there is no room for improvement. And no matter how good I am at my best, there will always be someone out there better, faster, or stronger than I am. And so, my greatest enemy is my overconfidence — my own ego. When I believe I am deserving (“seeking props”), I am not serving those that follow me — I am serving myself.
The three pillars of heroism are willingness, honesty, and an open-mind. Introspection humbly connects these three pillars when one is presented with constructive criticism (uplifting suggestions intended to bolster and improve).
I have had similar observations this match that Light has had; however, I have also had some remarkable learnings of my own where Kaineng (FC, and ET) have taught me new things. And that is a joy!
Kaineng is one family — extended perhaps with the odd cousin, rare uncle, and eccentric aunt — but one family. Let us be ever mindful of the risk of segregating individuals or groups from our family for either praise or coaching in public.

Thank you, Light for taking the time to provide your uplifting thoughts and constructive feedback on the match.
(Side note: I own the topic. I own the subject line. Light’s post and mine are on topic.)
Less typing chat, more voice comms. This weird, obsessive, broad-based repulsion to VOIP in GW2 is truly remarkable and very odd (relative to other games in this space). The only thing I can count as being the real barrier is that WvW is server-centric and not guild-centric (which, if you think about it makes the game kinda stupidly named).
Nidome +1. Anet -1.

Do you enjoy it, members of Kaineng?
You seem like an intelligent, nice guy… with a lot of pain in your writing.
I suspect you know what’s next…
I will attempt a crude layman explanation. No doubt there will be some academics and gurus that want to smack down some kitten. But I’m more interested in getting the thread closed with a quick and dirty answer than finding the cure for cancer.
There are several reasons technical reasons that speak to your question. Game mechanics and technical architecture. The explanation can be exhaustive but I will try to keep it simple to answer this quickly and hopefully move this tread to quick closure.
Various invisibility mechanics offer the ability to disappear. These are game mechanics are used at the discretion of individual players.
Then there is a server-side (infrastructure) mechanic that limits or places a cap on the number of simultaneous exchange of proximate clients that can “know” about each other. This is often referred to as “culling” and is in answer to a geometric scaling / law of physics (or how much data can we process and shove down a pipe) challenge.
Think of the problem this way:
- You have 2 dots in space moving randomly.
- They need to know and exchange information about each other in real time.
- The more information they need to exchange the bigger the messages become.
- The faster they move the more “timely” or “important” certain information becomes.
Now… add a third dot. Every dot now has to communicate with two other dots.
Now… add a forth dot. Every dot now has to communicate with three other dots.
…
Now… add a THIRTIETH dot. YES, every dot now has to communicate with twenty-nine other dots.
There is a very serious art to prioritizing what is necessary, critical, important, desirable, or fluff.
Architects, designers, and imagineers try to work magic and slight-of-hand to allow more people on the field than real-time processing, propagation delays, and other challenges actually allow.
While this is not a comprehensive answer… nor is it even an adequate introduction, I hope it guides you in the direction to perhaps being satisfied this round.
This was just too good.
The best learning is inductive.
I say good on them… and good for you to attempt to drive home the lesson… learned.
I’d say Kaineng is better for both their effort and yours. Thanks.
Thanks for the Millenium link. They provide excellent tracking and projections.

Despite the confusion. As stated in the OP, commentary is permitted in this thread.
I also understand there are some really interesting engagements taking place.
I was involved in an amazing 2v8 Godslore fight. It was an epic battle of Defender/Elementalist combo stacking against a divided foe. /bow to Fergie for an amazing fight.
KAINENG — Four Tips for This Last Week of 2012:
- Everyone stock up on Quaggan Pearls from BLs (you can NEVER have too many)
- Everyone should be running WvW map completions for ALL mains and alts
- Everyone should be taking advantage of EB Mesmer Jumping Puzzle events.
- Everyone needs to get your WvW PvE out of your system.
OK… explanations and definitions:
Everyone means EVERONE (including PVE people) get the word out to your guilds, friends, neighbors, and relatives…. EVERYONE.
Don’t assume that you will ever have this opportunity again against stronger opponents.
Quaggan Pearls are needed to flip Quaggan NPCs in the center lakes. You have had the luxury of being fat, slothful, and lazy when it comes to the quaggans. In the higher tiers, you get sloppy with the quaggans and you will wonder why lightening is destroying your siege.
How do you find pearls? Hold down <ctrl> while you swim.
Why is Jumping Puzzle important?
- Free Siege
- Free Badges
- Free Equip at your Level
Why would PvE people care about the Jumping Puzzle? PvE people get their “completions” and “badges” and they can ~ drop the siege and give it to guild mates that play WvW (called siege packing a mate). And TBH, just running ONE circuit of EB just to get all the points of interests, vistas, and skill points will grant you at least one, if not two, levels.
PvE Events in WvW? Grub, Harpy, Spirit, Centaurs, Skritt, etc… If you want em… RALLY UP and do them this week. It is wholly inappropriate to do PvE when your butt cheeks are hanging in the wind and you are down in the PPT or the enemy is hammering on your objectives. Put the word out… git r’ done.
Finally, NOW is the time to learn the maps. There is absolutely no excuse for anyone on Kaineng to not go into and explore WvW. There is no level minimum to enter WvW (other than you have to basically get into the game — lvl 2). Announce yourself in map chat. Even the most timid can enter without fear.
Don’t get soft. Plan for the future.
Remember what it was like when you could not get onto any map? That day might come again!
(afterthought, this is a dreadful place to be doing laundry, we should have our own forum)
I am not a mod. I don’t pretend to be a mod.
The threads keep getting deleted and infracted for a variety of reasons. If you’re left scratching your head, perhaps you need a fresh read of the Guild Wars 2 Forum Code of Conduct
Discussion threads should be topical. They should not be metaphorical drunken frat parties where people stumble socially from person to person babbling randomly.
The new thread, 12/28 Score Status for Tier 8 [K v F v ET] is up.
Please observe the topical boundaries to minimize the risk of infractional discomfort.
It’s time to move on.

Hello and welcome to the final battle week of 2012. Please use this thread to report the battle score and statistics for the Tier 8 match between Kaineng, Ferguson’s Crossing, and Eredon Terrace.
As of 0755 CST the score report is:
K 111,751 ( +670 )
F 15,351 ( +15 )
ET 12,228 ( +10 )
Topical Administrivia: Please confine comments to the status of the match. This is not a thread to report alleged or observed player, guild, or server misbehavior (there are appropriate avenues to avail oneself of such satisfaction, this is not such a venue).
It is appropriate to comment on particularly uplifting or epic events. You may also feel free to share a screenshot of a heroic, humorous, or honorable exchange between you and an opponent.
But mainly this is about reporting the score and or status of the match.
If you question whether or not your comment is appropriate or within the confines of match status, score reporting or uplifting dialog… start another thread.
Good match… fight on…

I think we are going to lose this week. Seems like SBI has a surge of new guild…. I think thats what you call them…
He looks a little lost, he must have thought it was a new fotm. He may be the only anet dev to have discovered that there is a part of the game called wvw.
^^^ That is hauntingly funny. Like jalapeno jelly, it has a creeping burn.
+1
To Fergie: Dawn’s FBL (much earlier – 5am). You kicked my ninja team in the teeth. It was the most remarkable battle I’ve fought in quite some time. Everyone on my team commented that they enjoyed it very much.
What is the topic? Guys… when you start a match status thread, define the topic for score reports and match status. Please don’t ramble. Threads must be topical. Discussion must be on topic, contributory, and relevant.
Please delete this thread and start over… again.
Actually, want to tell me what’s your primary time zone?
Because if you are US player and a better time schedule doesn’t fit you … I’m assume you play either during midnight/early morning?
If that’s the case, you should probably seek out Asian guilds on DB, as far as I know, there’s alot of Taiwanese/Asians in DB
THINK!
Chaster, could you please stop “recruiting” for Kaineng by sending people (commanders!) to our future OPPONENTS’ servers!? <boggle>

To WM (and SoS),
I may talk in Dutch, French, Simplified Chinese, Cherokee or make affectations of American Sign Language on any channel. I may not offer to translate. I may, in fact, be trying to exclude you from the conversation. You may ask what I’m talking about but don’t feel offended if I or other parties do not understand you if you do not ask us in Dutch, French, Simplified Chinese, Cherokee or make affectations of American Sign Language.
And while we are at it… doesn’t this belong in the cat box of an enjin server forum, lordie!
Just wow. Just kitty-kat wow. Work that runway, Chaster! /facepalm

This is tragic news. So now the decision isn’t really about changing servers; it’s about changing games.

There are times when the messenger upstages the message. Today, you are message. The rest is noise. Your @<victims> forum pvp is tl;dr.
Those close to you will read past the insult. Those in opposition don’t care. But to the huge middle, the undecided, the unwashed masses that don’t typically engage in forum pvp… you wickedly cackled, “I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!”
A good leader chooses words wisely. A good leader knows that every word ascribed to him/her is part of his/her brand.
A person’s true character will always find ways of revealing itself.
How a person chooses to argue with people on his team, the wordy-weapons selected, the timing and choice of venue says more about a leader than the substance of the argument!
On behalf of all the pugs and those that don’t seem to know their place, I urge you to take your friendly fire private, for the good of your own personal command integrity and for the good of the Kaineng community.
Have the humility to apologize to us and move on.
Failing that, could you please include a score report as part of your next bloviation?
