Download the 64bit client and run it in Win 7 compatibility.
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
Not sure if this will help you, but it worked for me:
1. Run GW2 using the 64bit client on Windows 7 compatibility
2. Re-seat your GPU (take it out and put it back in again)
3. lower LOD, this actually does more harm than other graphic details like model/spell quality

Colorblindness
- This is easy, add a high contrast mode like most games have. Typically blue and orange are the colors used, but making it configurable would help.
Neutral: White
Good: Blue
Bad: Orange
This is more of a band-aid solution rather than a permanent one. High contrast causes eye strain to a lot of people, so while this can potentially fix some problems, it opens new ones.

you guys know there is color blind glasses out there right?
here is the link
enchroma.comdont believe it, search for enchroma glasses reaction on youtube
The site states that it works for 75% of people with Protan colour blindness (the kind I have)…and with a price tag like that, I can’t afford to buy a pair just to try it out. It’s nice that they’re making these though, I’ll probably try them when they get cheaper ($300+ for a pair of glasses that have no grade is expensive, what more if I have a 4.75 grade applied to each lens?)

+1 to this. I have difficulties in differentiating red/green/brown, and having a red circle on floors that are mostly reddish/greenish/brownish is a real PITA.
This question usually comes next, so I’ll answer it now:
q- how do you drive?
a- top is stop, mid is caution, bot is go.
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
Out of sheer interest, because I’m admittedly very ignorant on this matter:
Is it common practice in games these days to include such a setting?
Not a lot of titles have them, but there are some popular titles that have the option (The Witcher 3, Boarderlands, World of Warcraft, etc…)
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
I’ll probably give it a shot if I’m able to find the time to play.

I’ve got friends that use WTFast too, and I’ve been contemplating on throwing $100US at WTFast to fix the ping too…the only problem is that GW2 is the only game I have ping problems with (no problems with WoW, D3, Warframe, and HotS).
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
I get that there won’t be an advantage (it’s more of a disadvantage for most) and that it’s basically just custom mapping, but the TOS does state that we’re not supposed to use third party apps. I want a dev or mod to chime in, cause I want to know if I can be banned for using it (because I want to try it out).

A guy can dream… If only ANet truly listened…
EDIT: odd, I didn’t get a single notification when you guys posted your replies.
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
I’ve been asking for this since launch.
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
Can we get a mod or dev to weigh in on this? the TOS states that we’re not allowed to use third-party applications or macros that can give us an edge over players that don’t use em, but since this is just a controller mod, then what’s ANet’s stance on it?
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
If you’re playing from SEA/OCE, then you’re gonna have a very unstable experience. I’m just gonna keep on commenting and up-voting posts like these till ANet does right by us.
what does SEA/OCE, stand for?
im having bad lag spikes that started a few days ago as well
my connection didnt change
why the sudden start now?
SEA- South East Asia
OCE- Oceanic
It’s normally us SEA/OCE players that get the short end of the ping stick.
re:GW2 ping- I’ll have to agree with Amaranthe. I have flawless ping in WoW, D3, Warframe, and HotS but for some reason GW2 is craptastic.

I got the chip and motherboard for $180.00 seemed to good to pass up but I was hoping since even the 2500k is still viable these days that the 4790k would be viable for awhile even though there’s no upgrade path later on .
Nice. Grats on the steal. Haha!
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
It serves the same purpose, but it’s much harder to get through. It’s either I cough up way more more money for a small boost to my connection, or just wallow in the mud.
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
Y’know what else sucks? Having your connection to the server be a gate to success in jumping puzzles. No matter how good your motor skills are, you’ll never be able to complete a JP if your actions happen a second or two after you press a button.
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
I’m a very simple man that has three very specific suggestsions.
1. Colour Blind Mode
I’m colour blind and I particularly have difficulty with red/green/brown, sadly, your rings are red on mostly brownish/reddish/greenish floors. I frankly don’t give a hoot if it “breaks immersion”, cause it’s hard to stay immersed when you’re constantly being punished for otherwise avoidable things, just because of your inability to see certain colours.
2. On-HUD latency/ping and FPS display on the corner of the map box.
I need this information on-the-fly and readily accessible. Having to go to the settings menu to see this is a chore, and it would make a whole lot more sense on the HUD rather than a menu that not everyone bothers to check on a regular basis.
3. Better OCE/SEA latency.
I don’t care how you guys fix it, but please do. A constant average of 300-400 ping in an action-based MMO is a handicap no one wants.

Chill out fella, the grind is optional…but if you’re really into min/max then i guess it isn’t…
EDIT: I personally enjoy min/max play, but my job and family circumstances don’t allow for me to become a “min/max nolifer” anymore, so I’m taking the ascended grind slowly…very slowly. You could do the same for your stuff, if your schedule is just as busy. It all boils down to patience and dedication after that.

@OP- That PSU is overkill, even if you intend on overclocking. You’ll get a solid 3-4yrs out of that rig before Moore’s Law forces you to upgrade even if you don’t actually need to (cause of compatibility). Why not go for a gen 6?

Take it out and put it back in again. Check if the PCIE slot is dirty too, cause some times dust can get in there, and screw things up for folks.

@OP- Try the 64bit client on Windows 7 compatibility. It’s strange, but it worked for me.
@Riftweaver- Re-seating your GPU fixes that. I had to re-seat mine twice before the x2 changed to x16.

I’ve used both the 32 and 64 bit clients, and the difference is only in the tens. We’re just not important enough for ANet to give a rat’s butt about.

Heya beefjus, do you currently use WTFast? If so, how much has your latency dropped?
Side note:
Seen the new ASUS RT-AC5300 Gaming Router? It’s a bit pricey at $495.00 USD but one of it’s selling points is: “Built-in access to WTFast Gamers Private Network (GPN) of route-optimized servers ensures low, stable ping times for gaming”
Nah mate, but a guildie of mine does. He dropped from 400 to 300, and 250 on really good days. I’m opting to just shell out more cash on a better connection, cause that seems like a more cost-effective solution, since it’ll be more useful in the long run. AFAIK it’s like 100USD/year (which comes out cheaper than paying monthly), but your mileage may vary, since VPN/ping smoothing doesn’t net the same results for everyone.
Don’t drink the “gaming router” kool aid mate; no matter what, a LAN cable will never be outperformed by a WiFi Router, optimsed for WTFast or not.

What’s sad is that even VPN services don’t give you that much of a boost.
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
OCE has the same problem, and a thread much like this is posted almost every week. ANet just doesn’t have the time and resources to give us what we need in order to play properly. Right now, our best option is to subscribe to faster internet speeds and use a VPN service like WTFast/others. I have no proof of them not having time or resources, I just choose it over the alternative, which is them just flat-out not giving a frak.

Yes: Human
Sorta: Norn/ Sylvari
No: Charr and Asura…the stretching and shrinking really doesn’t to most sets justice.

@OP- You really want a budget build? What if I told you that you could get FULL Viper armor and weapons without spending a single gold? All you need to do is complete the HoT PS for each toon, up until the “Bitter Harvest” quest to get a “Box of Viper Gear”. Do this nine times, and voila! You end up with 6 boxes for armor and 3 boxes for weapons! I’m currently working on my 8th character, so it’s only a matter of time before I filly kit out my Burnzerker (you still need to spend money on crafting your Sinister trinkets though).
Good recommendations, but not really part of the topic.
The title was chosen on the basis of the guild KING running budget builds.
Stil, the easy/cheap availability of viper gear boxes does help gear a condition damage character.
I couldn’t resist.

+1 for this. I wanna mog as He-Man.

Never buy second had parts, especially a GPU or a CPU. You never know what kind of overclocking has been done on them, and the seller will never be up-front about any defects or damage they might have caused. Besides, the 8gb VRAM is severely bottlenecked by the CPU in the graphics card, much like having a Bugatti Veryron, but only being allowed to drive 80km/h.

@OP- If you want to go with 4th gen Intel, then you can’t go wrong with an i5 4690k plus a z97 board; i5 6600k and z170 board if you want 5th gen. As far as a new GPU is concerned, you might want to consider an R9 380x, as it’s a beast for 1080p gaming and is about $100 cheaper than an R9 290.

Apart from the fact that they’re both MMORPGs, they’re entirely different creatures. I played WoW for eight years before eventually switching to GW2 (played both on and off since then), and all I can say is that GW2 is a more pleasant experience, while WoW is more rigid but also more fulfilling. GW2 offers lots of things to do right off the bat, which makes it a great game to just pick up and drop at any point in time. WoW, on the other hand requires more dedication, but rewards you so much more in the form of gear and structured progression. In this sense, I guess GW2 could learn from WoW in terms of structured progression, and WoW could learn how to make a better community from GW2.

I just had someone build one for me with gw2 in mind as that is really the only thing I play. I ended up getting the i7 6700K skylake with a nvidia GeForce 970. Waited a bit then picked up the 28" samsung 4K monitor. Had to wait a bit longer as I didn’t have the property displayport adapter for the monitor but finally got that too.
Set-up runs beautifully but cost about $2700 in total (That is in Canadian mind you)
They didn’t have GW2 in mind…maybe Witcher 3/ Dragon Age Inquisition/etc…

Oddly enough, the x16 slot my card has been sitting on for 2 years read as x4 about 15mins ago (in GPUZ, but the slot is labelled as x16 on the board), so I re-seated it on the second x16. The problem was gone after I ran GW2 64bit in win 7 compatibility mode and turned off Riva, but I’m getting much higher frame rates now as well (I average 50 now, 40 last night after changes).
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016

Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
anet tech support helped already.
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
Found the problem. Apparently, the new revison of Riva isn’t compatible with GW2…I’m gonna have to slum it with the rest of the denizens and check my FPS the old fashioned way now.
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
So THIS happened today. It just reaffirms my vote for DX12. I don’t get why GW2 is running like crap, but Witcher 3 (high, hairworks off, low shadows and water) still runs at 60fps… SMH
So how many big zerg fight with or against other players over the internet are there
in the Witcher where you still have that performance ? Oh … wait … there are none .. right ?I don’t understand why people all the time compare apple with oranges. Has noone
ever played for example Lineage 2 with Unreal Engine or AION with CryTech Engine
and seen how this o so good single-player / shooter engines suddenly give you only
a slideshow as soon as you have massive amounts of players in an MMO ?And to your problem .. make sure your GPU uses all 16 PCIe lanes. Reseating you
GPU mostly helps.im not greedy
i only want anet to have multi core support, the rest can wait
They have multicore support, only not for more than 4 cores.
To be fair, I tested both in areas where the density would be low. GW2 in the tunnel before Rata Novus, and TW3 in Kaer Morhen. I only used TW3 as an example, because it’s the most taxing game I have in my library.

More a problem with your computer than the game.
How so? I had an average of 50fps the night before, and all I did today was change my CPU cooler to a stronger one, and the problem started happening on it’s own. It eventually went up after switching to the Beta 64bit Client, but it still spikes randomly.
Planning on upgrading to a GTX980ti by late 2016
Update: Switching to the new 64bit client boosted my FPS from an average opf 15 to an average of 35. It’s a big jump up, but it’s still sub par as far as quality is concerned.

I’ve noticed that hopping from one character to another some times results in the contrast being turned up really high, making all my toons look like albinos in the character select screen. This doesn’t happen often, but I thought that you guys should know.
