Turning down your settings and resolution helps with the skill lag. I am positive on this. Not sure why, but it works.

Warrior, Does it suck in WvW?

My two main characters are a lvl 80 warrior and lvl 80 thief. I can tell you without a doubt that the warrior is better for wvw. The warrior is far far more useful for my team/server than a thief ever is. I run a hammer shout heal build with p/v/t gear and a few clerics pieces. It is very hard to kill me as long as I’m next to our commander (who runs with a guardian group that is constantly aoe healing). We take on zergs way bigger than us and still win (as long as the enemy zerg isn’t using the same tactics, then it gets interesting).

The only strengths a thief has is killing long players and killing dolys. If you are spending your time in wvw, taking up a que spot, and only killing single players who cross your path, then you are helping no one. If it was a case of denying reinforcements that would be okay, but that is only useful if you are killing a whole lot of people in a short time span, and most thieves need to wait for their cooldowns before the next attack. And the thief just gets demolished in any sizable zerg. Now if you don’t want to run with your zerg then the thief is better, but usually the most helpful thing you can do is run with a medium size zerg that is doing productive things (granted, I’m in T1 and we always usually always have good commanders).

Bump. I am also having this problem. And I am trying to fun Sweet FX, which requires admin mode to run. It still works when not running the game in admin mode.

We aren’t burntout, just not treating the game like it’s a second job. Tha’ts the reason we from SoS came to bg, to have a strong server and still do well without having to play so long that we get tired of the game. Beating the infinite numbers jq has will not be easy, and we’re not gonna burn ourselves out in order to do that. There have been some good fights too, SoR are really fun to fight against.

This isn’t just cause of the new guesting feature. In wvw I have been lagging even more than before. I think this is related to the new patch. I can’t even enjoy wvw because anytime a zerg gets near me I go down to less than 5 fps and get skill locked.

As long you cannot contest the keep by hitting it once then yes this would be a good idea. If they fixed this bug and left the same mechanism up to contest a keep, then the waypoints would be completely useless.

Well I can’t answer this because I’m on Sea of Sorrows, and it’s obviously no where near dead.

But, someone earlier mentioned it, the hardcore wvw guys have either taken extended breaks or have quit the game all together. I think the nature of how wvw is set up encourages burnout among really committed pvpers. The fight never ends, and if your server starts losing then the pugs/militia stop showing up. This endless bitter war gets old. There is no room to just slow down and enjoy yourself because you will quickly lose any gains you have made. I can’t say I have any brilliant ideas to fix it, maybe have wvw seasons like WoW has pvp seasons.

Every class has important roles in a Zerg. As a thief I learned just how incredibly effective it was to stand in the back and cluster bomb all of the water/light fields for healing and retaliation. Necros are there for epidemic and boon removal. Warriors have the knockbacks and aoe stability a zerg needs to keep its position. Rangers have the aoe damage and water fields a zerg needs to survive. Guardians and eles are obvious, guards for protection and helpful fields and eles for damage fields out front. Mesmers obviously for portal and time warp. The only one I don’t know about is engineers, and I’m sure they have something useful too.

Though I would have to agree that mesmers are currently op when it comes to group combat. I dunno how you could nerf that without crippling them in other areas though.

I wouldn’t mind at all if SoS dropped down to tier 2 for next weeks match. Let BG, SOR fight against JQ. I think Tier 1 would be better off having 3 servers hungry for a win. SoS would be better suited dropping down, regrouping, chilling out for a couple of weeks. This reset couldn’t of come at a better time.

I have no idea what the size of SoR is currently but it would be nice if another server could match the size of JQ zergs. It’s clearly obvious SoS and BG even if they teamed up still would struggle against JQ’s numbers.

I said it earlier, but you can’t use the performance this week as any gauge of either SoS or BG. Starting with tomorrow’s reset I think you’re going to see a completely different SoS than what you saw this week.

While this is true, JQ still massively outnumbers both SoS and BG. And considering BG’s past performances, I doubt any organized 2v1 against JQ will last.

It’s kind of funny seeing JQ tell BG for weeks that if they only would attack #1 (SoS) they would get more points. Now that JQ is #1 what do they say? Attack #2 (SoS) cause it’ll get you the most points.

The next few weeks are gonna be fun. We at SoS have been running on 100% for so long, we need a break. Some time in a different tier will be refreshing, and allow us more time for other things besides 24/7 wvw. Though I do want to fight SoR. I came to SoS at the very end of their last fight with SoR, and I hear nothing but great things about them.

I have to agree with the guy above, this week has been awful for people who run smaller groups. And since my computer isn’t the best around, I have a problem being that effective in zerg vs. zerg fights. And then you have people on both sides going out of their way to make the culling worse, it just gets lame.

Anyways, good fights and lets all get ready for reset. We all ready for Blackgate to actually be relevant for a few hours? I kid, I kid :P

At 4:30 pm est at SoS garrison the zerg was about half made of up players using the ascalonian mage ghost potion. And no one could figure out how their zerg could disappear in such a small area, well that’s how. I didn’t even see them until I was dead.

Again, congratulations on exploiting culling to win, that’s really impressive.

Dude, seriously? You say this as if there’s a way to master culling and use it to an advantage. The only way I know of getting enemies to show up is if you sit there a while or go right into the group. What your asking is for the whole group, (most likely not knowing you guys couldn’t see them) to stop moving so you can see them… Potions are in the game and as far as i’m aware they aren’t bugged, so how can you exploit them? Also, I’ve been part of a small group defending that’s been smashed by an invisible zerg because of culling. All I said was “well dang, at least Anet is working on that…” and respawned. So please, enjoy the game and have a nice day -Gorger

If you can keep your zerg of 30 or so people invisible until they are right ontop of you, and constantly move them 1500+ range while invisible, then yes that is a significant advantage. And if the same said zerg has many members using the ghost tonic as a way to increase the particle effects and delay when they are rendered, then yes that is mastering culling. You’re getting many extra seconds of invisibility that veil alone would not give, and it is because of the ghost tonics. You guys are taking advantage in a flaw in the games design in order to squeak out a win.

No one is saying anything about groups, just groups using alot of tonics to abuse culling. Many of us at SoS are very impressed with the group tactics of RG. What I at least am not as impressed with is the many extra zerglings using this tonic to give you guys an advantage that was not intended by the games designers.

I ran into the same zerg later and they had many less ascalonian ghosts, though there were still 4 of the at the front line. Good to see atleast someone knows that it’s wrong and probably asked someone else to stop using it.

you guys are aware that with a ghost tonic on you :
A) cannot use siege
B) cannot swap utility skills or elites
C) you can never really fully stealth as the top section of the ghost models hair never actually goes invisible.

also every server/player/guild/team has access to veil, just as they have access to portals.

Might just want to take a step back and think about what you are complaining about.

No one was manning seige, they were running around and killing anyone who didn’t see them in garrison. Now lets think about that, you guys were able to hide an entire zerg inside garrison while 20+ people were defending. And how is that not an exploit? Veil (or any aoe stealth) + ascalonian ghost means that you guys were hidden until you appeared ontop of your next victim.

This is awful to see because before this week JQ was not known for abusing the games flaws to win. And I know that the majority of JQ wouldn’t condone this kind of blatant cheating.

Only thing I hate about this week is the coming of a certain guild that heavy abuses culling erhm… Basically my computer runs well enough but the other 9/10 players who do not suffer so badly they can’t do anything.

What am I talking about? Mesmer stealth. That ability lets you stealth an entire group of 40+ with just 1 mesmer due to how bugged it is at the moment and add stealth culling on top of it, I salute that guild that uses the broken mechanics of WvW to its fullest.

In case people don’t know yet, stealth culling adds another 3-5 seconds after you lost stealth before you can even see them load on you screen. RG you are great at keeping you’re guys together and moving like godzilla but you’re nothing but culling 24/7 made me lost all respect. But hey whatever it takes to win got it.

Can’t say for certain that is is RG doing it intentionally, as I didn’t see any RG guys with the ghost thing on. I did see 2 prx guys running in their zerg as ghosts though. “The Professionals” lol

It wasn’t just veil. I saw atleast 5 people with the ascalonian ghost thing on. Why even try to act like it didn’t happen? It’s not like its a bannable exploit, just a douchy move. You guys exploited a transformation in order to make your stealth from veil last longer due to culling.

Perma-Stealth Thief / Dead Mesmer Ressing

How can it be? You can res while stealthed, you can stealth other characters, and if traited right can remain permanently stealthed. ALl of those things were intentionally designed in the game. If you saw a dead body in light armor and you didn’t station someone to watch them, you messed up. Simple as that. It’s just like people not sweeping keeps completely and calling “hacks” when you lose it.

If you see a dead body not releasing in a keep you just took or one they broke a wall down in, you can bet your next yellow drop that there will be a thief just waiting for you to leave so they can be ressed.

Sea of Sorrows has a serious lack of EU coverage, even though we are the #1 server in the NA bracket. If you want one of the best communities that I have ever seen in a MMO, you will be welcome here. We have a number of euro timezone players but there isn’t enough leadership at that time. Most of our commanders are NA and Oceanic. Also our strongest enemy, Jade Quarry, has recently got a few EU guilds. So you guys will have a hard fight at your time zone, and wont have to worry about the rest of the map being decimated when you log off.

We have a commander mumble, and weekly meetings between guilds. We would love to have you here, you can PM me or Jedahs.2713 or Papaj.9035 or any of the others in the SoS recruitment thread. We will organize a mass server blackout for you if you do decide to bring your guild over here.

That method works, I used it (though it was a few weeks after launch). You have to choose a certain thing in the character creation process to get the hood and not a stupid mask. I can’t remember what it is exactly though.

I really dislike the idea that we at SoS dominate wvw. Almost every day we’re in some incredibly tough fights. If T1 was just a faceroll with us stomping over all the other servers then most of us would get bored and leave. We at SoS have been #1 and stayed there because we have excellent communication between guilds and one of the best server communities I have ever seen on a MMO. We are respectful of our pugs (we don’t use that word, we call them millitia). We work with other guilds as smothly as if they were our own guild. And we never give up. At the same time, there is no commitment beyond play smart and have fun. If we’re in an incredibly fun fight but are needed elsewhere, our commanders will wait for the fun to stop before moving us.

We play for fun and to be the best. If that is something you Europeans and Brits would like to be a part of, whisper Jedah or Tala or Kurthos and we will organize a mass server blackout for your guild.

I can second the ebon vanguard bow. It’s cheap at 9k karma and it is the biggest shortbow in the game. The 9k karma human cultural bow is pretty nice too.

I think this guy is simply trolling you guys. I am from Sea of Sorrows (the server the op is on) and I see people looking for fractals groups at every time of the day. 4 am on the east coast and there are still people typing “lfg xx lvl fotm”. The game is in no way close to dead. Though I don’t see enough people in the rest of the world, I haven’t logged into Lions Arch and not been in an overflow since fractals came out.

This thread is quite amazing, sad, but amazing. You guys who enjoy pve have THE ENTIRE GAME with many many zone dedicated to your particular entertainment, and all you guys can think of is how to add more pve content into the one enjoyable competitive pvp content in the game. Spvp is lame and there is no ranking system. Wvw has tactics, pvp, and ranking all in one, it is really fun. Why can’t you guys just go enjoy the other dragons and hundreds of events everywhere else in the game? Why do you have to take away some of fun we pvp guys get?

And the pve element already in wvw aren’t that well designed either. They are really just commander checks. If your server doesn’t have good enough communication then you might lose your zerg to fighting the grub. That seems to be about it. And having people rally endlessly because they drug a bunch of mobs into the fight doesn’t seem to make any sense. Even the more well designed events like the quaggans and the orges still feel like a chore when we have to clear them. It’s the fighting that has a chance of failure (pvp) that is the real enjoyment.

The irony is you’re doing it now too. And now we have come full triangle. Every single server in the current T1 has whined about something that is a large part of WvW, 2v1.

I wasn’t complaining. 2v1 is a perfectly legitimate strategy. I just find it hilarious tat you guys kitten about it all week then decide to do the exact thing you guys think is sooooo wrong.

I think the point of this thread is that downed skills suck in general. They are an annoyance and rarely useful (except ele mist when defending a tower).

When I was learning to play my thief I’ve had many times when I would kill someone, only to have them down me while I was stomping on them. And depending on the class, I have even lost a few times because their downed ability just hit waaay harder than mine. Now you guys can understand why we thieves use Cloak and Dagger before we stomp. And as for the thief stealth while downed, just aoe us. And the thief teleport while downed is just a way to troll whoever killed me. I only use it to port when they are about to stomp just to annoy them. Neither of the thief owned skills are that useful or fun (in pvp atleast), just annoying.

Downed skills in pvp suck and slow down the pace of fighting. Downed state itself is good, it lets good teams get their own back up. But the skills are just annoying.

Well…after a bitter fight with SBI friday (when we were trying to focus JQ) I guess most of us decided to just go ahead to fight you as if you were strong still. Still, I know everyone at SoS would rather go after JQ than SBI.

And that garrison was really weak, like really really weak. I was just there.

I couldn’t think of a worse example of thief.

As for the op, that is one of the great things about this game is that you can find a build that isn’t 100% as strong as the others, but still play it to be basically as effective as other builds. Good for you

I too am glad that Anet doesn’t listen to the loud cries of baddies who don’t even TRY to learn how to beat thieves. They just come here to complain, not to learn how to play.

Also, this game was NOT, i repeat, N O T designed to be balanced on a 1v1 basis. A thief should be able to kill you alone. We’re assassins, that’s what we do. Though I will admit the healing in stealth trait is a bit op, it’s only cause the rest of our self heals are pathetically underpowered.

Almost every class has a way to counter us thieves, (except poor rangers, they need help). Necros are masters of attrition fights, we don’t attack guardians we tickle them, warriors can easily use a knockdown and own us, mesmers have as many tricks as we have, engineers can lock us down if they stay still and don’t chase us, and eles……don’t even get me started.

Also I have noticed this, NO ONE AOES THE DAMN HOUSE! It is the easiest way to get a kill, and a knockback there will devastate us. We usually use the house (Shadow refuge) as our last “oh kitten” button. So the thief in it will have lot health. Learn your class guys, become a better player, and learn to accept it when you get beaten. Learn from it.

Culling isn’t the only issue. Being able to heal to almost full by chaining stealth is just plain OP. Btw, I play a thief. My only character past lvl 10 is a thief. I don’t want to see my class nerfed to the ground, but being able to kill 3 or 4 decent players just isn’t okay in any case.

Personally, I hate chaining stealth. It’s not fun, it’s not fighting, and it makes me feel like I am playing cheap, with a cheat code or something. CnD needs a short cooldown. To be fair though, we still die in 1 well timed knockdown from a good warrior. Which is annoying as well. Being one shot, wither by a mesmer shatter, a warriors 100 blades, or a backstab their, is just not fun for anyone.

As a member of a large WvW guild in SoS, to all of JQ, we don’t blame you for [DEVS]. Seriously. The only one we blame is Anet for not banning the exploiters yet. This is the top match in NA, you’d figure Anet would be watching it a little more closely.

And not defending the exploited towers is a good idea. I know we at SoS would do the same (Deuce of Atac was NOT exploting btw). It’s nice to see sportsmanship like this. The rest of JQ earned respect from us at SoS.
