next class weapon you want and why

I wish they would add whips as melee/mid-range weapons. They are already in game (with existing animations), since Nightmare court uses them. Your sylvari character gets to use it for a while in personal story.

They look pretty epic and have a potential to be used by multiple classes. Think stuff like thief (who can also use them to move around by swinging on it), fiery/electric whip for ele, mirage whip for mesmer, etc.

…you paid for HOT content (and maybe the core GW2 game). LS is not a part of HOT and not a part of the core game. Therefore, you did not pay for it. What is so hard to get?

Giving tickets out on a massive scale (like you suggest) and making the skin of your choice account-bound (just in this case) will surely require some sort of tweaking, I can assure you.

How is it a broken boss fight? And yes, if you have any particular comments about it, you should totally discuss it with Anet’s crew and report any bugs/problems with it to the team, but how is it relevant to this conversations and LS?

It is, without HoT you couldn’t play S3, ppl paid for HoT not just for the content at that time but everything else later, till the next xpc.

No it won’t, it’s like the birthday gift which require little effort, even the GM could do it with ease if they were allowed to.

Try it yourself and you will understand.

Funny how the promotional website for HoT doesn’t mention anything about you paying for LS as well. Prove me otherwise please.

Regardless, you will still be getting your episode, just a day later. It’s not crucial to you to play it asap, it’s just a game after all. No one died because of this. Also, they do not have a set day and time for their releases (officially). So even if they deliver it 1-2 days later, they still kept their promise to release it in February.

Birthday gift IS coded, it happens automatically, or do you think GM sends it to every player personally? Lol. Perhaps they could do it for 10 people manually if they wanted, but giving it to EVERYONE would require tons of effort.

Another argument for it unbalancing the economy – people with multiple paid accounts. Since they would have to ‘refund’ every existing account (even people who use their alternative accounts just for acquiring extra mats from log-in rewards), then people with 5 accounts would get a lot of skins/gems they could sell.

Last time I played it, it was not broken. If it is now, report it (if it had not been reported already) and hopefully it will get fixed,

Just magically make it accountbound? :P You sure they won’t need TO PROGRAM IT FIRST OR ANYTHING?
I’ll break it down to you. Since it wouldn’t be ONLY YOU getting this skin, but everyone else, there will be an overflow of said skins on the market and the price will go down significantly.
And the gem-gold conversion ratio will also be affected. Kinda funny I need to even explain that.

No you didn’t pay to get the update. You paid for the vanilla game and the expansion and you got it. Living story episodes were always an extra, just a kind gesture from anet to keep their playerbase entertained. You don’t even pay the monthly fee, so you really have nothing to complain about here, and especially not ask for some sort of a refund.

Basically you don’t even have any good arguments, it’s just – give me free gems or ticket please just because I want.

No, even the GM could do it easily with their permission. To be fair, the skins are already skyrocket high, what’s wrong to bring them down?

I did pay the money to be able to get the content. Anet doesn’t have to pay ppl anything as well. It’s FREE to FREE.

Wait, so are you saying Anet charged us money but provided us broken final boss fight? So we could charge them for money?

You are aware that you can sell the skin you get with the ticket, right? <—monetary gain.
Same with gems that you can exchange for gold.

But that’s not even the main point here.
The main point here is – Why do you feel you should get anything at all? Because Anet cannot deliver the content YOU DIDN’T EVEN PAY FOR (with it coming next day anyway) because of smth THEY COULDN’T HELP?

Just make the skin bound when pickup, like the birthday dyes. How does 200-300 gems affect the market? It’s like less than 100 golds

Yes, I bought the game to enjoy the service. I DID pay to be able to get the update, I DIDN’T ask Anet to PAY any real money to us, just some in game stuff, how is it a big deal?

Because it affects the economy and because it’s catering to entitled children who can’t wait an extra day when something goes wrong (smth that is not even Anet’s fault).

‘Making players happy’. Yeah, I bet lots of ppl are REALLY UNHAPPY just because a patch is few hours late lol. Actually I’m so unhappy right now, I’m going to enroll myself into a depression clinic right away.

No it doesn’t, one ticket or 200-300 gems would not affect anything.

Yes of course, just like the customers would feel unhappy if their item is delivered later than usually, and it’s their right to call the company. We are not talking about any real money, just some FREE stuff which only requires Anet to do a little bit to their program.

Lol, stop being that pathetic and expecting handouts. Man, people are getting really entitled these days.

They didn’t release the patch because of the circumstances they had no control over (the weather). And according to them they are trying their best to fix the situation asap.

The whole thing is just hilarious. People throwing tantrums because a game patch was late. You have so little going on in your lives that a late patch is the source of a big drama? People seriously take days off work for this? And it’s okay if they do, but that was their decision to do so, not Anet’s. Therefore, they are fully responsible for it and Anet owes them nothing. No free gems, no precursors, nothing. You are already getting a fresh LS3 episode free of charge and they’re doing their best to ship it to you asap.

TL;DR – stop being a whiny brat and acting like it’s the end of the world. No, you don’t deserve any free stuff for it and you will get LS3 episode when it’s ready.

that is a really cool one. the inn keepers could be quaggan. would go with an expansion with ‘Bubbles’ really well.

True ^^ Lost Precipice was very vertical (since it has pressure pads and you can glide quite high in it). So I was thinking maybe they could do smth different and make it vertical in opposite direction (swimming down). Of course they would need places for all the vendors, so it can’t be all completely underwater.

Besides, both LP and GH are quite bright-looking, so smth gloomy and dark could be good for a change (not everyone likes bright colors). They could even make it a forgotten temple of Abaddon with giant statues and waterfalls (lighted by green torches for example).

Here’s some inspiration for such a place (that I shamelessly pulled from internet)

I’d like a dark ruin-like guild hall, that’s mostly underwater. Atlantis -style. Think smth like this

Or smth very hi-tech/spaceship looking (would probably have smth to do with asura).

And more exploration inside them. Secret rooms/puzzles would be a great addition. I guess existing guild halls had unfinished jumping puzzles, but I kinda liked them. They should elaborate on that.

@OP: There is a misconception in your understanding of the XP bar. It does continue to progress, thus does level your Masteries just fine. It doesn’t matter what game mode you play (except for PvP, which has its own XP system), you will always continue gaining XP. It just takes a little longer than at Level 1. Your usual reward after Level 80 will be a Spirit Shard.

As for leveling Tyrian Masteries: All you need to do is activate the Mastery you currently wish to level, then you will see its progess bar. Once the bar is full, you need the respective amount of Mastery Points in order to finish the track, afterwards you can select the next one you wish to level and so on.

We all did it that way, it’s fairly simple. You don’t have to play any specific game mode for this, however, you need to do stuff that provides Mastery Points, which should be indicated in your journal.

You only get the spirit shard if you’ve completed every mastery in the area you’re in. So until you’ve gotten all of the Core Tyria masteries finished you don’t get spirit shards for filling up the experience bar.

And that’s where the OP is having a problem: he doesn’t have the mastery points to unlock everything and doesn’t want to have to do the things that give mastery points. And he needs the reward from “leveling up” to get him to continue playing.

You get spirit shards from Silverwastes bags tho (noxious seed pods) or airship cargo from VB, so he can still get said rewards just in a different way.

However, the content has been disabled for the time being (hence my question!):

Oh ok, didn’t know they disabled it.

You can get ascended trinkets much easier by farming Bloodstone Fen and Bitterforst though ^^

You get it by throwing strange rock into lava few times. Believe me, it is not worth it, since it’s just a simple ascended ring with nothing special to it (no achievement, no aura, no additional story).

However if you do want to do it regardless, get strange rock either from tp (goes for 180 gold these days) or waste a lot of petrified stumps/karma by trying to drop it from skritt stashes (drop rate is extremely low tho).

Ascended breather sold from Slooshoo on Bitterfrost Frontier.
Who is so Idiot trying to monopolize that just recipe?

Probably because once the new episode is out, Bitterfrost and it’s vendor will be locked behind 200 gems for everyone who wasn’t there to unlock it.

And fractal vendor requires 150 relics to purchase it, perhaps people would rather spend it on other things instead (armor/gh) instead of on breathers. Also, not everyone does fractals.

Last I’ve heard it’s bugged and is currently not droppable. Any chance it might get fixed someday/soon? Would really love that, since I collect auras. And it will also bring in more players to do the meta, since a lot of people seem to complain HoT maps are kinda empty lately.

Actually, is it bugged at all (perhaps just an extremely low droprate or no one has discovered it yet)?

And what about the Verdant Brink version? Was there ever any aura item there?

However if someone pays let’s say 5k for such skin and then later everyone can get it for 30 laurels/ 10k karma, then yeah, I can see why they would be disappointed.

What if someone had paid 100 gold for this? Should we demand they pay 1600 gold to even the current market price, just to be fair?

Ridiculous, you say? Why? There’s no difference in fairness between price rising from 150 to 1500 and dropping from 1500 to 150.

And as I said, there should be some prestigious items on tp, cause that’s how economy works. You need to have rare/unobtainable skins so people have some motivation to get them.

If they are unobtainable, there can be no motivation. And the motivation should always prioritize obtaining the items directly. It should not prioritize getting them from TP. We should want people playing the game rather than just farming multiloot to buy stuff.

So, the items do not have to be cheap, easily buyable from vendor, or a common drop, but must be obtainable in some way in game (other than tp).

I mean, look at chak egg sac, the rarest item in game. Why do you think it’s worth so much?

Because some people have too much money for their own good?
(I mean, honestly, i have no idea why anyone would pay that much for anything, unless they had a ton of gold lying around and no idea what to do with it).

What do you think will happen if they nerf the low droprate and it starts dropping each time someone kills the boss? The price will plummet to <10 gold.

Are you unaware, that there’s a lot of space in between impossible/almost impossible to get and common as dirt? You certainly seem so, when you react as if any way of introducing currently unobtainable items to the game must result in the latter.

And about skins being ‘retired’. There are always some tp-flippers that buy skins cheap and then hoard it hoping to sell it for more. These skins are then re-purchased by other flippers and they re-list it for higher price later. So in reality, someone always has some skin available, it might just not be on tp at the moment.

Untrue. First, some skins leave the market by being used/soulbound, or by ending in banks/inventories of people that stopped playing. Second, some of the retired skins were never sellable in the first place (Mad Memories, for example).

And once again, it won’t kill anyone if they don’t have a particular skin.

True, but by the same reasoning, it won’t kill anyone if those skins will become available again.

They could add it as a ultra-rare drop from some world boss/fractal/whatever just to make sure the skin won’t die out. But I surely hope it won’t become some vendor trash or smth that drops every 10 minutes in some map.

You were the only person here that even suggested such a possibility.

1) no, because if someone pays 100g for it in the beginning it’s understandable, however as more time passes and as less skins are left on tp, it’s only logical it becomes more expensive (and difficult to acquire).

2) But they are obtainable, anyone can buy them from tp if they have enough gold. The question is, do they have enough? no gold =/= unobtainable skin. Besides if it is a drop with a low drop chance, good luck with obtaining the item ‘directly’. Because of RNG, you may never get it still, but someone else will, who can sell it to you on tp.

3) People buy chak egg sac/farm tangled depths because it is hard to get. It is such a popular item because of the limited supply. And it gives a nice aura. Look at tp, there are always 2-4 people ordering it for 10k gold and waiting while no one even sells it.

4) Once again, it IS possible to get it rn. You just don’t want to pay the price it goes for.

5) Oh really? Was I the only one who suggested it? How about this?

Haven’t they included it in the list of Pact Network Agents’ recipes? If not, they really should.

And I disagree, some items should stay rare imo

No. People who get enjoyment out of other people not having things are the worst kind of people.

They really, really need to add this back into the game. It costs exponentially more to buy the recipe than it costs to make the actual item itself, there’s no way that’s reasonable.

It was that way even during the event, when it was dropping. The drop rate was that rare. And since Anet seems to have decided to discontinue Queen’s Gauntlet, there’s no chance that the situation will reverse without some really heavyhanded dev intervention.

Exclusive, event, season, etc items should stay like that, period.

If they ever add ONE single item back for karma or another stuff, then people is going to ask for another one (the one they want) then in the end is going to become a train of asking for it, and practically will need to bring back each item, every item which was ’’exclusive’’ to turn to normal status, plus that plus wardrobe unlock will become useless and less moneyz

You do realize, that it has already happened? Many of such items from the LS1 time were brought back and can now be bought from a laurel vendor. Molten backpack was obtainable as a drop during the LA destruction events. First year halloween skins are supposedly obtainable as a rare (well, really rare) forge drop now.

And while the returning items do not need to be buyable at the vendor, there should be a way to obtain them now. No skin should ever be permanently retired.

By the way, about the people that paid thousands of gold for those skins – they’d have absolutely no leg to stand on. Anet never said those items will not be returning at some point. The buyers should have been perfectly aware, that the price of these items is not set and can change in the future, and that they are in fact taking a risk.

But if they will want a refund, i bet they will be equally as ready to pay the difference for every item they bought when those were much cheaper than they’re now. Though somehow i have never heard anyone complaining about that one.

For what reason should these skins return actually? They have no special stats (aka it’s not essential to gameplay in any way), it’s just pure cosmetics. Would it kill people if they have a regular wings of dwayna backpack instead of a molten jetpack / chaos of lyssa? Absolutely not.

However if someone pays let’s say 5k for such skin and then later everyone can get it for 30 laurels/ 10k karma, then yeah, I can see why they would be disappointed.

And as I said, there should be some prestigious items on tp, cause that’s how economy works. You need to have rare/unobtainable skins so people have some motivation to get them.
I mean, look at chak egg sac, the rarest item in game. Why do you think it’s worth so much? Because it is quite hard to obtain it because of it’s low drop rate. The amount of people wanting to buy it is always higher than the amount of people selling it. Demand > supply.

And finally, there is a 3rd functionality, which is the real reason, why I listed it for such a high price.

Then this item can also be used to legally transfer gold between accounts. For example, I have 3 personal accounts, my main account and 2 trading accounts which I used to use for research purposes that required plenty of logistics, like mass salvaging, forging, crafting, opening containers etc. Later on, I used them for trading in certain markets and bulk trading or just for storage. Each account has 3 fully upgraded storage guilds and my 2 trading accounts probably have each a worth between 50-100k gold. Transferring huge amounts of gold between accounts is slow due to the 500g limit per week. Now I havent really logged into my 2 alt accounts in over half a year (no time) and I am thinking of maybe starting to liquidize their assets this year and transferring the gold to my main account. I estimate that I could probably sell items worth 5k gold every week from each account with around 1 hour of trading per day (and without crashing too much markets). That would mean I would have to transfer around 10k gold per week to my main account? So how do i do that?

The safe way over the guild banks would only mean i could pick up 26k gold per year for the next fistful of years. I could do it by sending valuable items that I buy with my alt accounts, mail them to my main and then sell. This would mean that I lose 15% fees and taxes anyways and I would buy and sell to different players, not myself. Thats basically flipping the item meaning I would need to flip items worth 10k gold per week and on top of that, would need to mail every single item once. That doesnt sound very appealing to me considering I flipped items worth 9k gold within the last 3 months.

With the ghostly spineguard, I can transfer 10k gold instantly, without restrictions and a base 1500g fee. This might seem alot to most people but it would enable me to extract 170k gold within 20 weeks instead of 200k gold over the next 400 weeks.

So I understand that you might only bid a couple of silver for this item because thats what its worth to you. But for me it would be worth significantly more because it enables me to accumulate 8k more gold per week for the next 20 weeks.

Ok, I see how YOU could use it to mail gold back and forth to yourself, but the point was that you said this thing would sell. It won’t sell, because no one but you would buy it, because it’s worthless.
Other than that, yeah pretty handy to send gold to your alt account. So how come it’s still on tp tho? XD

Regardless of where it comes from, it’s a yellow rarity back item lol. Who in their right mind would buy a rare-quality item for 7,8k that is not a part of any collection, doesn’t give any achievements, no auras and has a pretty mediocre upgrade worth 38 silver. Get real.

Chak egg sac that costs 10k is the hardest item to get in game and gives an aura (and is exotic at least) so that could justify the price. But ghostly spineguard and that staff for such money? No way.

The only reason they are on tp is either trolling or goldselling. If you really think this will sell, you’re pretty naive. The only way this would ever happen is if some noob who knows nothing about the game (and somehow has thousands of gold) will buy it.

Just because something doesnt seem logical to you, doesnt mean that it wont happen.
You made it pretty clear that even the act of listing it for such a high price seems illogical to you, yet it happened anyways.

Listing any item is a bad idea and it stays that way. Until it is sold.

Regarding your functionality for value estimation of the item: Where do you base it on? Did you ever own one? How do you know that it doesnt give an aura and that it doesnt have a functionality that isnt documented? Maybe you can forge the 4 rare lower level ghostly spineguards into an Chak Egg or another infusion?

And maybe there is functionality in the rarity of the item that you probably dont value at all. First of all, people pay premium for rare kittens. For me, its irrational as well but they do. Heavy Bag of Coins is a prime example. Ever since they got discontinued in the BL chests 6 months after launch, they got traded for double-digit gold values even though all they do is give you 1.5g at the most and a couple of silver on average. not even a year ago, I made a couple of hundred gold profit per month flipping them.

Then its also possible for an RMT to purchase it for gold transfers, I would lie, if I said that I didnt consider this and it definately influenced my decision. However, I never was and never will be involved in RMT. I have no influence on who buys my listings and what they use it for, thats for Anet to figure out, not me. I just use the trading post as intended.

And finally, there is a 3rd functionality, which is the real reason, why I listed it for such a high price.

There are plenty of these ghostly spineguards dropping from AC and Frozen maw and I have had few of them. They and that tp item share the same skin (hard to call it a skin even because it’s just invisible backpack with stats). So no, it doesn’t have any aura. Nor does forging it with 4 others give you anything special (getting an infusion from mixing 4 rares, are you serious?).

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ghostly_Spineguard_

As for heavy bag of coins, the ‘buy’ price never went higher than 45g. I have no idea why people would buy that, because as you said it drops 1,5g at best. But even then, unique item that is 150g it goes for nowadays is far away from 7.7k-9,9k stuff that has similar items that normally go for 65 silver.

https://www.gw2bltc.com/en/item/20317-Heavy-Bag-of-Coins

And what would that 3rd functionality be?

what would happen is you losing gold to see your item sit 1 copper less then a gold buyer, that will make for kitten sure that the gold seller buy theirs instead of yours.

what do gold buyers have to do with this?

why else would you list a level 75 backpiece for 7000 gold if it was not to get a gold seller to buy it?
That you email with outside game ofcourse to tell what item and for how much, to hopefully launder the money that way.

Sounds like a fool proof strategy to scam some scammers out of tons of gold and you should definately spend the 375g listing fee to prove that you are right.

It will be my pleasure to undercut you again. Well lets not get ahead of ourselves. You dont have that item anyways and probably not even the listing fee.

To answer your first question: I did it because i can. And I think that item is worth 7777g and someone else will agree eventually and buy it.

How would you scam them out of money mate?

Cant see anyone buying ascalonian catacombs/frozen maw drop for close to 8k gold ever

You just claimed this is a scheme between the item seller and some RMT to transfer illicit gold and now you claim that nobody will buy it. What is it?

And where exactly does the svanir shaman drop it? is it a direct drop from him or does it drop from the icy strongbox? If its from the icy strongbox, wouldnt it be farmable from every svanir champ? And if its a direct drop,….wait, we still get direct drops from champs?

And how do you even confirm two different sources from an item that only ever had a maximum of 2 listings on the tp since it got introduced? Let me guess, you read it on the internet?

And I disagree, some items should stay rare imo

No. People who get enjoyment out of other people not having things are the worst kind of people.

They really, really need to add this back into the game. It costs exponentially more to buy the recipe than it costs to make the actual item itself, there’s no way that’s reasonable.

If you haven’t noticed, there are quite a few items like that on tp. Jetpack, Scythe, Fused skins, etc. Some people pay few thousands gold to acquire those items. If they add such recipes to karma vendors, then it’s unfair to those who paid lots of gold.
If some skin came out during specific time and you were not there to buy it/didn’t want to buy it back then, then be prepared to pay extra.

I am confused why people still think things tied behind rng and black lion cash should be exclusive. It’s a choice people make to buy skins, when it should be obvious they will be back one way or another. I mean look what happened when we were given dyes for birthdays.

Well Chaos of Lyssa was a rare drop back then too, so yeah it is exclusive in a way, because it’s not as common as Shadow of Grenth or Wings of Dwayna.

People spend gold because they can only get it from tp. What else should they do? Wait 3-4 years in hopes that MAYBE it will re-appear?

Besides, some content should stay exclusive, otherwise there would be no motivation for people to earn gold if they can easily get anything at any given moment.

I agree it should be back in the game as a rare drop in some way. Or as a collection item with a quest similar to Mawdrey

Yeah, that. It’s okay if a rare item is back, but it should be a very uncommon drop or require a lot of effort to acquire. Just adding it to vendors and therefore making it available to basically anyone anytime is going to kill it’s value. Chaos of Lyssa was always worth more than any other god-themed backpack recipes, and that’s what makes it unique. I don’t see people with that skin very often. Actually I’ve seen way more people with legendary backpacks than with Chaos of Lyssa.

Same with items I mentioned before. Once they all sell out it’s good to add an alternative method of getting them, but it should not be smth that’s really easy to farm.

Would Largos ever be a playable race?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: electricwater.1572

electricwater.1572

The biggest problem I see with largos as a playable race is their lore says they live in the deep ocean (and haven’t migrated like quaggan and krait) so their starting area would have to be entirely underwater.

Underwater content is extremely niche, some people love it but many people hate it, and apparently Anet think it’s too confusing for new players, since they disabled it until level 8.

There’s also the fact that they can’t do the usual racial level 10 – 30 story then merge them into the fight against Zhaitan because there’s no largos in the Pact and only 1 even helping them.

I suppose they could make them a special race you can only play after getting another character to level 80 and give them a shorter, unique story about joining the fight at the current state. But I don’t know how that would go over.

Well largos had to move due to the ‘horrors’ in their homeland, so the starting area could be some current settlement they reside in, that is not completely underwater.

And yeah, unlocking them after lvl 80 on any other character is also a good idea. It would be an expansion race anyway. This way they can have more complicated gameplay and start in lvl 80 zone right away. This would eliminate the need for starting areas, and won’t confuse new players.
Think of it as an ‘experienced’ player race. Once you know the basics of the game, you get an opportunity to unlock the advanced race. Also fits with the lore of largos , since they are already highly skilled assassins.

Largos need a redesign, before they are possible for being a playable race.
They current design has been made under the thought, that they aren’t a playable race, thus the reason why you see that race currently in the whole game just like only maximum 3 or 4 times or so, wherefrom 1 is just a single main story NPC and the others are just some enemies in a few maps.

Replacing that 1 main story npcs and the few enemies is surely no huge workload to do.

Theres also some kind of unofficial Largos project from fans that i have seen somewhere, which i find good and interesting. Don#t know what has been come out of that so far, never heard again somethign about that for a long while by now

Ah, found it again ,the Youtube Channel Look it:

Shows you, how much effort there is to create a race from paper to something, that actually works in the game later

Howeve,r that channel shows just the current design of the largos. If they should become playable, i think its neccessary to completely redesign their “Wings Part”
They are way too stiff and unnatural in the game. If they would stay like this animated, a Largos would break everytime their wings when they perform a Dodge Roll lol

If that race should keep their wings as some kind of racial unique part of their design, then the wign design must become alot more fluid and the wings need to receive a completely compatible different animation for the whole combat related movement setting, for gliding ect. pp so that their wings are in the way. Also for swimming/diving they would need complete new animations, so that they look natural there and not so stiff like glued onto their backs.

Aside from all the technical stuff, the Largos Race needs lore. We nearly know absolutely nothing about them yet. That would be something that the Expansion would have to change.

It makes sense for the character creation to come up with like 4 different “Houses”
I myself made a real long time ago once a thread, where I wrote a concept for their lore based on 4 Houses.. hmm ,if i can find that old thread again xD
But sadly I can’t find it anymore and haven’t saved it up somewhere for quick reference

Thats definetely a far better design for some kind of underwater amphibic race that could use a kind of modified Charr Body Model perhaps and turn their “wings” just into a racial locked glider design.

That’s quite an interesting video. I see they fused largos with seers. I read some fan theories that largos are evolved seers. And yeah, wings would need to be redesigned, but seeing how gemstore is full of them lately, I don’t think that would be a big problem.
I also like your points that they are just rarely-encountered npcs and enemies. This is why I keep saying largos are perfect candidates if new race ever comes :P

Pros:

  • Easy body to model armor for (Unlike tengu or koda or even dwarves)
  • Not very prominent in the main story, so devs can do whatever they want with them, their design and their lore
  • Are described as fierce fighters, so it would make sense if they suddenly decide to join us in a battle against Elder Dragons
  • Won’t feel like they were shoehorned in the story if DSD finally shows up. Largos respect successful warriors, and after us slaying 2 EDs they may think we are now ‘worthy’ of working together with.
  • Have a few ‘houses’ they belong to, so that would fit well with the personal story concept where you have to choose your order/college/etc.
  • They have a unique mysterious look to them. (Unlike koda or skritt who all look the same)
  • Have ties to DSD and Abaddon due to living underwater, so there are lots of possibilities to elaborate on existing lore and create new one.

Cons:

  • Wings. But since a lot of characters have wings nowadays, excuses like ‘OMG WINGS AND CLIPPING!!!" don’t make a lot of sense. They will just need to adapt largos wings to be like current ones.
  • Underwater combat. Well, that should also happen some day, and it seems like a good opportunity to do it.

Largos would probably be the easiest race they could implement, but that’s also the problem with them. They’re essentially elves. Sylvari were originally designed as elves with plant accessories, but were redesigned because they wanted something more unique. Largos would basically end up being gray humans, and they probably wouldn’t have permanent wings because they’d avoid the issue by revealing that they’re actually a part of their suit.

I doubt ArenaNet will ever implement a new race however, because not only are they costly to implement, they’ll also forever increase development costs. If they were going to implement one however, they’d likely go with something more unique. Tengu for example, which were one of the original candidates.

First of all, nothing connects largos to elves except for some strange ears that only males have, by the way. We have no idea how their faces look like. For all you know they could end up being like Mileena from mortal kombat under those masks, lol.

And tengu eh, you again have that problem with adjusting old armor to them. That’s not only adjusting the mesh, but you’d also get problems with stretched textures/clipping (like charr have). Largos are easier in that department cause they share human body model.

And then there’s also Bubbles of course, the underwater dragon. If we were to fight him, who would assist us with that? Quaggan? Largos would fit nicely into that story being powerful fighters and an underwater race. While tengu are not really relevant to the story these days.

First of all I have to say it’s a great idea to create such a story ^^

And second, there are no official fairies and female icebrood in the game, but you can be creative with armor mix-n-match. I actually have a character with an ‘ice witch’ theme.

I also have The Dreamer, and since it might take you a while to get yours, here are some screens with a fairy-looking character. And the ice witch that perhaps could work for the villainess in your story?

I could take more screenshots later if you want, would love to help.

I doubt it. Charr tails cause enough clipping as it is, imagine ANet trying to deal with a body that has wings attached to it

You mean like every other character that has wings now? XD

They can change largos wings to glider wings if needed, and perhaps you can transmute them to look like any other wings skin if you want (hello, gemstore).

I’d really love it if largos became playable.

Unlikely? Out of all possible races they are actually the most likely.

As far dwarf hybrids go I think the name should acknowledge one specific feature, that the dwarves are made of stone and that Ogden Stonehealer is most likely the sire since he’s the one dwarf that’s consistently above ground. Therefore I suggest that the dwarf hybrids be known as a group by the name Stoner and then the name of the other race(s).

Examples:
Stoner Skorn: Dwarf Skritt Norn
Stoner Quakarr: Dwarf Quaggan Skritt Charr

Now that I think about it…can we mix Elder Dragons with smth too?

Of course we can! Logic, lore and common sense has no place in a thread like this.

How about an Elder Dragon and a Largos to get a…. Largon? Draglar? Largos-n-Drag?

@ electricwater:

I have no clue, why you picked now a part of my post for a quote, but I haven’t said any word about it, that the fight against the Deep Sea Dragon should be an instance like against Zhaitan.
But personally I also hope, that itsn ot again such a silly splitted mess like in HoT with partwise instance and partwise Mass Event that you can do only every 2 hours.

Best thing would be, if its next time a “Mass Instance”, because the woudl be the best option that takes the good elements out of both options

1) You are not only like 5 people or alone, but the instance could be made for a balanced number of say maximum 100-250 People (WvW is practically nothign different, the maps are mass instances)

2) And you can do them whenever you want, you don’t have to wait first god darn 2 hours first, before you can fight agaisnt the dragon, you start them and you land just in a queue that collects first enough people to create a new mass instance and adds people to created mass instances for up to 2 minutes after, before it starts to collect again people for a next new mass instance, which is an instances, which scales then up or down regarding how many people are in that instance together.

What Id like to see the Deep Sea Dragon battle to have would be also multiple “Phases” that require different tactics to fight against the dragon to be able to deal serious damage agaisnt him, like this

Phase 1 = Underwater Combat – Weakening Phase by doing everything there to reduce the Mobility of the Dragon, pinpointing it with multiple huge harpoon cannons, so that the wings and the tail can be damaged, until they are cut off

Phase 2 = Underwater Combat – Enraged/Defense Phase, Lots of Minnions come to help after the Dragon gets enraged from getting cut off his extremities, destroying all the harpoon cannons with a huge tidal wave from his enraged movements under water. Here is the sense just to do everything to survive and defeat the multiple waves of minions, until the rage of the dragon stops and no minions waves come anymore, before you can start the final counterattack and the finale

Phase 3: Underwater/On Water Counterattack Phase
After the rage of the dragon has ended and all Minion Waves have been defeated, its time for the final counter attack to weaken the health of the dragon so much, until we break the will/defense of the dragon, by doing an all out attack with ships/sub marines/air ships bombarding the dragons from all sides, while players in the water have to stop the dragon from performing his breath attack, because the mission will fail, if he destroys the whole fleet with his breath attack/his claws.

Phase 4: Finale
after having weakened the dragon enough under water, Livia comes to help with the Scepter of Orr and performs the ancient spell, that was responsible in the past to sink Orr onto the dragon to lift the deep sea dragon out of the water onto the land, further weakening the dragon because now hes not anymore in his natural realm, where we players use then attacks/tactis that exploit the dragon’s weakness to defeat it once and for all, by using one of those attacks in a massive concentrated form against the head of the dragon at a least expected situation to hit him with it fully out of surprise, blastign off its head to see his dead body crush then to the ground…

that would be an epic finale for me

I picked your quote because you were describing the boss battle with DSD, smth I also wanted to add an opinion on. And since it was about a boss battle, I thought I’d add some thoughts on 5-man instance/map zerg too while I’m at it

Too bad we don’t know anything about DSD and his powers, so it’s hard to tell what kind of battle it would be. But it would be more fun if it’s a dynamic battle where you have to move a lot to survive (and not just afking in a corner lazily while other people do all the work).

The phases you suggested are interesting, I also have a few ideas about that.

  • Parallel participation. Few groups that are assigned to perform different things at the same time. Kind of like with Chak Gerent Lanes. Since people speculate DSD might be a hydra, then it’s gonna be a battle against multiple heads. Let say one is underwater, while other 1 is on land and the 3rd one is high in the air spewing poison for example. So some have to go underwater combat mode, while others fight him on land, and the last group has to use gliding to attack him and disable him. Then heads move and everyone has to switch to other mode. So let’s say people who were underwater before have to gliding.

If one group fails their task, then an extra head grows and it becomes harder. This way it becomes crucial that every group performs well.

Why A New Race Is Highly Possible [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

electricwater.1572

People say it will cost too much resources to create a new race, but there was never any official statement about that. I pointed that out. There is also no official statement that it fits perfectly in their budget either. But until either of such statements comes, it is up for discussion (yet some people are already saying it will never happen).

If you want to believe that a new race is likely, there’s nothing that anyone can say to temper your optimism. If you want to understand why we haven’t seen a new race or hype from ANet about one, you can read above: there are huge costs associated with adding a new race to this game.

No one is saying it will never happen; we are saying it’s extremely unlikely because a new race involves both startup and ongoing costs while other features only include some of the same costs.

For what it’s worth, here are some other conversations on the same topic:

First of all, WP is not a dev, so his opinion is just an opinion of another player, who doesn’t know the full situation of how things are going at anet.

*He makes a point that cities are not visited regularly, but a lot of people farm them for transmutation charges, so that’s one of the reasons to go there lol. And as he said, they can add extra activities/vendors/unique stuff like mystic forge in such cities to attract more people.

*Then he talks about problems placing leveling areas for tengu, and we already talked about how there’s no need for that if they start at 80.

*Then about how there’s some problem with heart quests…yet up to this day we see them in Ember Bay and in Bitterfrost. If they keep doing it then they probably think it’s worth it.

*New race’s personal story – has been suggested. Make the race unlockable once you have lvl 80 character of any other race first and completed HoT. This way they can enjoy the original Zhaitan/Mordy stories all they want and it won’t feel weird.

*Revoice all the previous content – again, no need for that, see previous point. As for dungeons/raids/whatever dialogues, replace them with text instead (IF there is a problem with hiring new VA). It’s just a few phrases, I don’t think anyone would mind much.

*He’s also talking about dwarves (completely new body model) and tengu (again, hard body to model for). Yeah, I can understand why it’s hard to adjust old armor to them, that’s why I suggested largos instead who have humanoid bodies (with interchangeable wings, before someone smart jumps in with ‘BUT WHAT ABOUT WINGS????’ again). Problem = gone.

Anyway, Imma stop arguing in this thread now. I’ve already listed all my views on so-called ‘problems’. People who want results look for solutions, people who don’t – look for excuses. As I’ve said like million times already, it’s up to anet. I would love a new race, but if it never comes I’m not gonna cry and uninstall.

I do agree with WP on the following though, people have this ‘list of requirements’ they made up themselves and keep referring to it. You can also think outside of the box, you know.

Anyway, I’m done here

You don’t really need to move your character from the current group to lobby (usually group 1) in order to switch to another. Just be sure to join the world for the group you’re going to, then move your position into that group direct. Some people may be keeping an eye on overall time until the reset, and usually 2 minutes until reset is “last call” in most cases.

You DO need to move it to lobby if you’re planning to switch maps, lol. If no one does that, then it makes no sense anymore, because you would not be able to see on what map people are (unless it’s the same map as you). If everyone does this, then it’s gonna be chaos and you are going to lose a lot of maps because everyone will be just jumping back and forth.

The proper way to do it is:

1) loot your own map
2) check how many people are still on your map; more than 2 —> proceed to step 3; only you —> announce in squad chat and wait til someone else joins your map
3) move yourself to lobby
4) pick a map and try to join it (might be full sometimes)
5) only after you joined new map SUCCESSFULLY, move yourself to that group; loot the current map
6) repeat step 2 and so forth

The Legendary Journey (sanity check)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: electricwater.1572

electricwater.1572

So I spent a lot of time running about doing the legendary journey which was kind of fun for the most part, it’s not covered anywhere I searched so thought I’d just ask here.

The Legend – obviously isn’t bifrost to my shock and horror when building it, it’s only ‘part’ The Biforst, so am I correct in assuming that the only way to obtain said bifrost is to obtain ‘Gifts’ ?

Normally I wouldn’t care it’d just be another collection of stuff, except one of those gifts involves PvP which I point blank refuse to engage in, unless it’s snow ball fight then fine so am I better off just saving gold and buying off the TP?

If that’s the case I’m a little sad at the effort and gold I put into get the legend as I need not have bothered.

I craft legendaries regularly, so I’ll break it down for you.

Crafting precursor The Legend will cost you approximately 794 gold at the moment. After you have that, you’ll need another 1k (again approximately) to turn it into Bifrost. That’s assuming you don’t have the required mats already. If you don’t think you can handle such costs, then don’t even start.

Wiki lists everything you need, so follow it.

You don’t have to pvp, but you will need to spend 8-10 hours in WvW for the gift of battle, you get if from the reward track. WvW is quite easy, just follow the commander and tag someone once in a while, that’s it.

You will also need Gift of Exploration, so you’ll need to finish all vanilla core version maps. That’s quite lengthy and boring, but doable and not hard.

You will also need artificer 400 and chef 400 for this legendary. If you don’t have those trained yet, you will also need additional gold to get to 400.

Getting mystic clovers is a gamble. There are 2 recipes: for 1 mystic clover or 10 at a time. But it is always a 1/3 chance (in my own experience even lower), you can also drop other materials from throwing these 4 ingredients into mf. So better stock up on ecto, mystic coins and obsidian shards.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Clover

You will also need to do Arah dungeon a few times to get 500 tokens to buy Gift of Zhaitan that you use in Gift of Color.

For the rest, follow wiki lists for materials you’ll need.

Making a legendary is not supposed to be easy and it’s supposed to cost people time and gold, so think whether it’s worth it or not for you GL

“Players want a new race.” gives no measurable metric what so ever.

New race = new story, new lore, new locations, new achievements, new customization options. All this is exciting to new/old players. Most people will create a new character (sell more character slots) of the said race to try it out and go through it’s story = more participation. They can design new things for them and put them in the gemstore (for example if it’s largos – new aquabreather/fins skins for everyone). It also adds diversity to the world.

Not to mention ‘new race’ sounds like a good selling point for an expansion.

Most people here claim it’s too expensive to create a new race. Where’s any information to support that? Of course it would cost some resources, but can anyone show me any proof it is TOO expensive?

What sort of ‘proof’ do you need? People have outlined the things that would require ANet resources and compared them to other things that ANet has done in the past. For the amount of replayable content offered to fans, a new race requires more resources both to get the new race started and each time there’s any other type of new content. A new race affects dialogue+translations, gear design, story telling, skills and skill animation, as well as any content that is particular to the new race.

They did dialogues for minor races in HoT, was that a problem? Itzel, Nuhoch, they all have voices. And they are minor races that don’t have any relevance outside of HoT. Even Mouth of Mordremoth has a voice, while they could easily skip that.

Gear design was already covered. And story telling? They would need some story for the expansion anyway.
They did skills/skills animations for revenant in HoT. Since I don’t see any new profession coming in near future, what prevents them from doing skill animations for new race? Not to mention, if the new race can utilize existing classes, all skills are already there.

Personal story removed and only LS available: check

  • Home city? No one said it should get removed, it’d be there.

Remember I said someone would say remove
Amaimon.7823:
1) it’d need a home city with a home zone. And thats why tengu is unlikely, there’s no space for both.

Home city (and leveling area) suggested to be removed (for Tengu): check

Leveling area removed: check

Professional voice acting removed and voice acting by ANet staff: by Leo G

Cultural armor removed, now only one set instead of 3: check

  • Specific wings/whatever.
I don’t have a strong attachment to either the wings or the Largos but you can bet that the people who want to play Largos want those wings. The average player isn’t going to care if they are a natural part of that race or not. The wings are emblematic and expected. Just read the threads about them.

Basically, you just made up 80% of what you said here.

I don’t think so.

And as I’ve said multiple times, if they appear in expansion, they can combine the resources of creating said race zones with new expansion zones. So all your ‘budget is too low for that!" arguments (when you don’t even know how much it costs and whether they can afford it) are pretty much empty.

Wasn’t my argument.

  • LS-like personal story, not an actual living story. So instead of 3 instances every 10 levels with breaks you would just get x amount of instances all together. Considering PS from lvl 40 to lvl 80 is the same for everyone (with minor variations), I don’t see losing much. And it certainly doesn’t classify as scrapping personal story all together.
  • Home area. Even then what you say is not true. The person said there’s no space for BOTH home city AND leveling area for TENGU. He doesn’t suggest scrapping both, in his opinion tengu are unlikely because for some reason he thinks there’s not enough space for BOTH. There’s plenty of space on the world map that is still uncovered, so they could put it anywhere they like. And Tengu is not the only race suggested. So again, not true.
  • Leveling area. If there’s no need for leveling then yeah, why have a random leveling area in the middle of nowhere? If it gets replaced by a few quality 80 maps instead, what’s the problem? Can’t live without lvl 1-20 maps that give bad loot?
  • Voice acting. Probably the only thing where you have somewhat of a point. Leo G indeed suggested that anet employees start pitching in, but where’s any statement from anet that they are struggling with hiring new VA? That’s entirely made up by players.
  • Cultural armor. Lol, limiting it to 1-2 sets is hardly scrapping it all together, as you say. Again, made up point. 1 =/= 0.
  • Wings. Let me tell you, most casual average players don’t even know who largos are, because they are that irrelevant in personal story. And people who DO want to play a largo (I’m one of them) will certainly not care about their wings/fins much. What people DO like about them is their mystique, cool look (not counting wings), and the fact that they come from deep underwater, an area we know nothing about. Also they’re honorable cold-blooded assassins, that adds to their appeal. Nowhere did I see people going crazy about their fins and saying OMG I LOVE LARGOS CAUSE OF THEIR WINGS. Besides, I said AN OPTION to replace largos wings with whatever from gemstore IF THE PLAYER WANTS aka keep the fins if you like them, change them if you want. An option, not removing all together, like you claim.

Most people here claim it’s too expensive to create a new race. Where’s any information to support that? Of course it would cost some resources, but can anyone show me any proof it is TOO expensive?

What I’m seeing in this thread is, anytime anyone points out a problem with adding new races someone else says they can get around it by removing something.

Personal story?
Removed. Too expensive.

Home city?
Removed.

Leveling area?
Removed. Start at level 80

Voice acting too expensive?
Get whoever you can who works for the company, can speak the language and doesn’t sound awful.

Cultural armor?
Removed.

Specific racial features such as wings are a problem?
Removed or optional.

So, what do you have at the end of all this? You have a race with no personal story, no leveling, no cultural armor, specific racial features are optional, no home city and voiced by Bob in accounting, until he gets a better job elsewhere and then James in janitorial services will start voicing it. He doesn’t sound anything like Bob, but hey, he’s cheap and he’s not awful so that’s a plus.

This thread started out with a new race with all the background and trimmings that the original 5 have and has cut back and cut back due to addressing problems until it has ended up with a race that has nothing going for it but the body. It’s a cut rate, bargain basement version of a new race that no one outside the people advocating it in this thread would be happy with.

When or if the game adds new races it’s a reasonable expectation that they’ll be on the same level of complexity as the others. Anything less will be seen as a sign that ANet is so hard up for cash that they can’t do a proper job. Don’t expect that ANet putting a bare bones version of a race out there to be happily accepted by the players. They are going to want to know why the new race is so stripped down that it’s only the body and not the whole package, and I don’t think telling them they got so little because doing the job right costs more will make them happy.

So. If this is the best y’all can come up with then I’ll be just as happy for ANet to hand out transformation tonics. Does exactly the same thing as what this thread is proposing for a fraction of the cost.

I’m afraid you were reading wrong, because that’s not what people said.

  • Personal story? Yes, but not the way it was done in the vanilla version. The race starts at 80 and follows living-story development in multiple instances.
  • Home city? No one said it should get removed, it’d be there.
  • Leveling area? No need for leveling area, since they start at 80. Instead other 80 zones that fit the theme of the race and the expansion that other races can also explore.
  • Voice acting? Few workarounds have been suggested (in case there are any problems), but first of all, we don’t know for sure if it is indeed TOO EXPENSIVE. That’s smth people just came up with, without any concrete facts.
  • Cultural armor? Once again, no one said it should get removed. People just suggested that since the race starts at 80, no need for 3 sets, just 1 (in 3 weights). But once again, that’s assuming there are financial difficulties with that, that no one from anet confirmed yet.
  • Specific wings/whatever. Indeed, the ability to switch them so they would not clash with existing wings/backpacks. There is 0 lore on largos wings. Nowhere does it state they are natural (and not artificial) or that every largo has them. Maybe this kind of fins is just fashionable among largos. You don’t know that. And honestly, largos are not even prominent in the vanilla story enough, they pop up for 1-2 instances and events, so what’s this strong attachment to the wings, how are they gonna ruin your whole perception of the race?

Basically, you just made up 80% of what you said here. And as I’ve said multiple times, if they appear in expansion, they can combine the resources of creating said race zones with new expansion zones. So all your ‘budget is too low for that!" arguments (when you don’t even know how much it costs and whether they can afford it) are pretty much empty.
