(unless someone somehow finds a way to make invisible players visible)

From my experience this is a performance issue anyway. On my SSD invisible players take a couple of seconds to load, and I only notice if I accidentally walk into a zerg. So it would hardly be any more advantageous if someone managed to fix this problem on lower end computers, because high end computers don’t actually suffer from the problem.

Your ‘view’ on this is that world completion shouldn’t literally mean world completion, it should mean “what I personally view as world”-completion. As people have pointed out in your flawed logic, what if I’m not a fan of shiverpeaks areas? Can I just avoid those and still get the achievement? What about if I don’t want to leave Queensdale? Can’t I just complete Queensdale and have it count as my own personal world?

No. World means world. WvW is part of this world. Explore it, and you get the world explorer achievement.

Its been said a dozen times in this thread already, but:

1) You aren’t ‘forced’, that’s just something you personally want
2) 100% means 100%, not “95% and the bit I don’t like”
3) Complaining on the forums isn’t going to get you the achievement any faster, and it isn’t going to be changed. Dry your eyes and get in game if you really want it.

Agreed, I don’t understand the Staff hate. Yes, if I get cornered by a warrior and a thief, I might be in some trouble, but if I can CC and DPS a group of players while keeping a huge range from them, I obviously have the advantage. Staff is a fantastic weapon, especially with the huge range AoE’s you can get out of it, incredibly useful for a game about staying on points to cap them. How are they going to stand there and cap when I’ve set up half a dozen AoEs from a distance?

I still don’t understand the whole ‘nothing to do at 80’. At 80 you can do everything you did from 1 – 79. Just because you aren’t working towards another number, it doesn’t mean the progression suddenly stops or every area in the game stops being there. You have an entire world to explore! I can’t imagine anyone who properly appreciates the world getting bored of adventuring until at least the 500 hour mark. Then you’ve got Dungeons, WvW and sPvP.

People really need to stop grinding to 80 then looking for the game to start. This isn’t WoW.

Here’s playing the game normally:

Here’s you playing the game wrong

- Zone down to low level zone to play with wife. 3.50 silver

Unless its Orr, you can port around main cities and walk for free, or at least get closer to spend half that.

- Buy gathering tools. ~5 silver because I no longer can buy low level tools to harvest low level nodes.

Not only can you still buy low level harvesting stuff, but you can also buy them for karma if you know where. So again, for free or for a fraction of the cost.

- Repair cost + 2 silver waypoint rez because some boss or random instgibbed us. On average, maybe 2 times per day. – 10 silver

No boss or random will ‘instagib’. Not unless you’re well above your level area, or are terrible at judging a bosses power versus your own. Another completely avoidable cost.

- zone back to main city – 3.5 silver

Again, you can get to Lions Arch for free, or walk half the distance for a fraction of the waypoint distance.

So all in all you could be spending as little as 5 silver. From the fact that you also said that you were going to lower levelled areas to play with your wife, that also means you aren’t earning a fraction of what you would be in higher level areas.

I wouldn’t normally just pick a post apart like this, but the whole “Anet make it impossible for me to make money to force me into the cash shop” is such a stupid arguement. Millions of other players are earning money just fine. Ever thought that maybe you’re just playing the game badly?

Theres No grind.... ._.

The promise was never ‘this game contains no grind’. The promise was no leveling grind, and no grind to get to the best stats (exotic). Both of these are true. What you do to reach the cosmetic/bonus goals is up to you. You can either just play for a little for a long time, or a lot in a little time (grinding).

We’re way too squishy for how immobile we are.

Eles have pretty much no defensive capabilities in comparison.

I’m sorry, but what class have you been playing? Ele’s are the most mobile of any class, minus maybe Mesmer, and have defensive abilities up the wazoo. I can last for ages in a battle taking reduced/no damage. This is one of their strongest points. Set up a ton of AoE control and damage, watch an entire team suffer, if they focus you, escape and do it again 10 seconds later. If they don’t focus you, do it again instantly.

Too many people playing glass cannon, getting 2 shot and complaining about it. Play the class properly, then judge.

120g isn’t even too much, especially since you earn gold so easily from just playing the game. Considering people have already bought the Commander title for WvW for 100g, its plain to see that people just like to complain that everything and anything is out of their reach and want it served to them just for being a great and powerful level 80.

Firstly, I can’t even understand how you would need more ‘bag’ slots. 12/15 slots in all slots is more than enough space for me, especially with the amount of options they give you like deposit all collectibles and sell junk.

Secondly, you can buy gems with in-game money. You can buy character slots, bank space and bag space without ever spending a single penny real money. Hardly a ‘money grab’.

I’m not close to affording the ‘of rage’ legendary components on the trading post, but I have more than enough money to keep myself going and buy all the stuff I want. It isn’t hard to earn a gold every few hours if you dedicate yourself a bit.

I would suggest stop using waypoints, sell all blues/greens to merchants, sell all gold/orange on TP, maybe try to find a crafting niche and cash in on it, and if all of that fails, go complete a map and you’ll earn 1g from hearts/loot/rewards.

I certainly wouldn’t say that 99% of players are broke and that most of the gold is in 1%. I’d say probably closer to 40% players are broke, 50% players stable, 10% mega rich.

Desolation isn’t getting ‘rolled’. Yes, grats on defending against an unorganised zerg bashing its head on a tower gate. I did exactly the same defending against the other two servers. If we were being wiped we wouldn’t be holding our side of the map. The only thing we are lacking is good teams on any borderlands, simply because we don’t have enough guilds serious about WvW and organisation while playing. Plus, no matter what you say, no shame in being 3rd place.

Plus your entire post barely made sense and you basically just stated ‘we can’t win with skill so we win with nightcapping’.

I believe an Anet employee said that their code doesn’t allow to remove aoe clipping issues, so I suggest introducing friendly fire damage. That way the defenders will be damaging their gates in the process.

A change to allow collateral damage from siege equipment. Problem fixed.

Or do so siege weapon damage buildings they hit no mater if its your or enemys.

I refer you to my previous post:

At least make that catapult do friendly damage to the gate

Suddenly, people from the other servers switch so that they can purposely destroy the other servers forts from the inside to help their own server.

Great solution. This just opens up the floodgates for griefers.

Interesting, “FS beat Vs during day”.

The problem of these discussions, is , everyone both side, take for granted that their server is the best.

I’m from Desolation, not FS. In a fair match up, FS would beat VS. I saw it happen at the weekend and I have no reason to say these things about the servers which aren’t even mine. Sure, no server dominates the other. It isn’t completely black and white, and I’m glad for that. It makes for some great battles. I’m happy that my server is in third place and gets such great battles against the other teams. Its a lot of fun for everyone.

However, this whole “waking up and finding VS has capped 100%” is bullkitten. It isn’t fun for anyone, and needs to be addressed. When 90% of the time the servers are balanced, but 10% of the time one server has a bigger population and can push the advantage, it isn’t fun. I’m not going to quit my job or change my hours to fit it around a game, and neither is anyone else. We want a fun, fair balanced WvW setup.

If a keep is low on fortification, you can take if before they can build enough catapults.

If a keep has catapults, you can siege again the walls from afar, or even build catapults of your own to take down the gate.

Its called tactics. Don’t build a ram and get killed by a catapult, only to run back up to the same door with another ram. Adapt. Catapults are expensive, and prone to getting hit by a Trebuchet from a distance. Take out the Catapults and then use your rams.

So lets assume that because VS can “mount an effective defence 24/7”, they will remain at the top, and because FS is unable to “mount an effective defence 24/7”, they will drop.

Now, FS already beat VS during the day. Now lets see what happens when they are against opponents that are even lower in the rankings. Oh look, complete domination. Now no one is having fun.

Siege weapons feel to weak

Is the Ballista meant for attacking other players? At Anza we had the enemy team set up a Ballista on the hill overlooking it and managed to 1 shot all our siege weapons in the tower. It was incredibly effective, certainly a tactic I plan on using at key locations.

As for the other siege weapons, Arrow carts are invaluable, Catapults can single handedly save a location and Mortars/Trebuchets are great for long range damage. I don’t find any of them weak.

And here we go again Far Shiverpeaks Vs Vizunah Sqaure.

in WvW

I would love to hear the thoughts of the third server caught between these two cry baby servers. How does it feel to be sliced apart like a pizza?

Desolation? We hold our own, I think that’s enough. We aren’t organised enough to beat them, but we can put up a fight if they bring it.

FS and VS are obviously the better servers, but it is disheartening to see 100% of the world belong to one server. We know we are all about even strength, so when I log-off a level playing field and come back to an obviously night-capped world, I do have to sigh.

I agree with both sides. On the one hand yes, it is part of the game, but on the other there should be counter-measures to at least balance the night populations and make sure this doesn’t happen. I can’t imagine its fun for anyone, not even the server that capped everything.

Even if they were class specific, not everyone would be happy. I play Staff ele, so if I got a Dagger and a Focus, I would sell them just the same.

in WvW

I spend 90% of my time upgrading my guilds tower & supply camp, running and protecting supply, building siege, and after all that dedication I only get a few badges if the enemy decide to attack my tower. It happens maybe once an hour, maybe a skirmish once every 15 minutes.

By contrast, running in the zerg will net you tons of badges, but their role is of equal, if not less importance.

Certainly, the conditions for getting badges needs to be changed. WvWvW is about much more than just mindless zerging, yet badge distribution doesn’t reflect this.

No, it isn’t random. Putting random weapons in and getting a random weapon out, yes, it is random because that is a single function. Creating legendary and mystic weapons though, is not random. Its a goal to work towards with multiple different items to collect. You just need to know the recipe, know the items required and train up in the crafting professions.

Absolutely nothing weak or wrong with Staff PvE. I can take on a dozen mobs at a time, depending on the area. You get a lot of DoT with bleeds, burns and AoEs. They don’t drop instantly, but you excel at multi-enemy control. If you can handle one mob, you can handle 8. They’ll all drop at the same time.

in Crafting

evilbottom.2186

At level 400 you can craft level 80 exotics… so yes, if you can gather enough materials and have a bit of spare gold, it is massively worth it in the long run.

Except that those exotics are sold in the trading post at close to cost price. Who are we fooling here? It’s not worth it.

You mean to say that the cost of the exotics on the TP are the same as the costs of the materials needed to make those exotics? Yes, obviously the TP very quickly balanced itself to stop obvious profits being made that way.

If you’re in a small guild though, and can share materials, or don’t mind farming them yourself, then yes. You can make your own stuff without spending gold, or sell the stuff you make for 100% profit. Getting the crafting professions for the items you use, there really isn’t any downside to having it, especially when it then comes to crafting the pieces needed for mystic forge recipes.

40 silver really isn’t that much. You aren’t meant to switch crafting professions on a daily basis. Example: I’m 400 cooking, but I keep 400 artificer and am leveling my tailoring right now. I bulk make food when I need it, and don’t need to switch back to cooking for weeks at a time.

I don’t think 40 silver is too steep at all. It means people just need to put some thought into which profession they want to actually stick with. 40 silver is a fraction of what you usually earn in a day at level 80.

I really enjoy the greatsword in PvE. It isn’t worth holding on to for the duration, but popping some AoE then getting out the greatsword and 5, 2 and 3 gives a huge boost to your DPS. Lets me down twice as many mobs as usual.

As for sPvP, elementals aren’t too effective and the greatsword is a risk to use. The others aren’t even worth mentioning.
