When they have to report to stock holders, ncsoft will just talk about how many games sold, not how many people are currently playing since there are no subs.
They might talk about how much money their cash shop makes though.
NCSoft is publically traded so we’ll probably see GW2 numbers eventually… Since GW2 doesn’t have subs, maybe not?
You’re going to give the DAoC crowd a heart attack with that kind of talk.
You should grind for exotics. Exotics are about 10% better than rares. After you get exotics the grind is over unless you want to grind for legendaries which are pretty much cosmetic.
GW2 is a lot like Warhammer Online and Rift. Dynamic events, high amount of health and you do little damage.
Rift, last time I checked doesn’t have realm versus realm, but Warhammer does. GW2 copied the realm versus realm versus realm three way battle from DAoC.
GW2’s skill bar with each weapon set having skills might be considered an innovation, but isn’t this just organizing skills in folders? It doesn’t bring a whole lot to the MMO universe.
I have to say, GW2 has done nothing new.
GW2 has made it much easier for casuals to jump into the game than any other game before. That’s the only thing it does differently.
Welcome to the Internet. People have opinions, post on forums, get trolled, get angry, post angry posts, etc.
It’s a lot like the Ford versus Chevy debates. Ford versus Chevy debates are stupid cause everyone knows Fords are superior to Chevys.
I made a point of not buying into the hype. I must say I’m still a little dissapointed. I don’t feel heroic, I feel part of the zerg. There is a lot of repetition in the game, you fight undead throughout most of the game for example. PvE at 80 is terrible.
I’m not going to ask for a refund but even though my expectation weren’t high, I’m not impressed.
I feel sorry for the people who bought this game for the PvE.
I feel cheated by those old MMOs. They put those time/money sinks in the game just to keep me playing. Not fun, but I had invested too much into the game to walk away.
I’m not going to roll and alt.
I’m at 80 and if WvW doesn’t do it for me, I’m going to check out all the new games that have come out recently.
I think what killed Warhammer is that even though it’s very similar to GW2, lots of health, low damage, DEs, etc, Warhammer online didn’t do realm versus realm very well.
People were swapping keeps and nobody was defending.
I’m grinding map completion at the moment. Then I’ll grind karma.
I don’t mind grinding as long as there’s not too much grinding. I have a grinding threshold.
I’ll happily grind 5,000 of anything but I won’t grind 10,000.
I don’t think stats matter that much in GW2, meaning 1000 toughness isn’t all that different from 2000 toughness.
But if stats do matter, then OP is correct. We should all roll warriors.
support works if you’re in a good guild. solo, not so much
Yeah, if your not in a guild, you might as well be playing with bots, running to DE to DE in Orr
They complete removed any need for communication outside of pvp.
Karma, a vanity pet? Gems? With a stipulation that you couldn’t transfer off that server for a year or something like that.
GW2 is nearly the same as Warhammer Online. Dynamic events, players have a huge health pool and do little damage. Realm versus realm.
I don’t see much innovation other than you no longer have to visit a quest giver.
I think you didn’t have to visit a quest giver in Warhammer either if memory serves.
Dam good artwork in GW2 though. It’s much better than the rest of the game. I hope they paid their art people well.
So this is how it is at that end of the ladder? lol
AESTHETIC RESULTS
Profession Happiness Ranking (Happiest to Unhappiest)
1. Thief
2. Warrior
3. Mesmer
4. Guardian
5. Ranger
6. Elementalist
7. NecromancerYou forgot Engineers.
Engineers didn’t make the list.
Didn’t they say that there is a limit of 25 stacks? So if 25 people apply bleads then the 26th person’s bleed is ignored?
Same with poison, etc.
There are two different conversations going on here and two different answers.
My engineer is strong in pve. I kite a lot.
My engineer is okay in pvp as long as I am in a group. I do feel that I don’t contribute as much as other classes.
I’m grinding karma now for the karma exotic set.
I don’t see what’s changed other than I don’t have to go to the quest giver to pickup or turn in a quest.
All our problems and they nerfed us?
finish you exploration at 3am in the morning, they have a graph somewhere showing queue times, queue when it says no one else is on.
GW2 is pretty much the same as every other MMO I’ve played and I’ve played a lot. It’s most similar to Warhammer Online with dynamic events and realm versus realm.
All MMOs are 99% alike.
GW2 big innovation is that you no longer have to pick up the quest or turn it in.
The artwork is fantastic, beyond anything else in the game.
The combat is okay, dodging is not what the hype made it out to be. The skills are found in every other MMO.
The world setting is pretty good, but most AAA MMOs have a good world setting, Rift, Warhammer, Conan.
Zones are very repetitive. You fight the same mobs with different skins in each zone.
The thing I think will make GW2 have staying power is WvW, not even sPVP.
If you bought this game for the PvE, I feel sorry for you. Well, not really because you’ll be back in WoW tomorrow.
they were probably giving the lowbees who go to the orr zerg a hard time for the massive xp they get even though a level 50 shouldn’t be in orr
You see these lowbees running in the zerg without armor and i’m not sure they contribute much
I don’t give them a hard time, i just find it odd.
engineer, 80, 6/10
And there’s that fire elemental boss.
The biggest contribution GW2 has made to the MMO genre is that you don’t have to pick up or turn in a quest? Pickup and turnin are automatic?
All MMO forums are pretty much the same. People who have a complaint are motivated to post. People who are happy with the game aren’t motivated to post.
I’m not really sure what some of you thought this forum would turn out. Why would it be different from every other MMO forum out there?
The good dynamic events are very nice. The bad dynamic events are as boring as anything I’ve done in any other MMO.
Artwork is fantastic. Some of the innovations worked out.
I’m happy with my purchase overall though I might complain about a few things.
I’m currently grinding for gear. There’s not a whole lot of improvement from the gear I get so I might stop.
TERA has the best combat of any MMO I’ve seen. WoW is good at what it does.
Wut?
OP doesn’t pvp. I feel sorry for anyone who bought this game who didn’t buy it for the pvp.
Yah, look at any MMO forum and you’ll see the same posts. People will complain about anything.
I’ve got to agree with the title.
Now that I’m 80, I found that I won’t have access to the best gear in the game and that to stay competitive in pvp, I have to grind crafting or karma in order to buy exotics.
I’m doing map completion at the moment and leveling up my crafting, and it’s mildly entertaining. But really, it’s the same old MMO kitten I’ve always had to do.
Where is the new paradigm?
My testing wasn’t exactly extensive, but I almost didn’t notice a difference after my thief spec’d into toughness. …
I run around naked in Orr to save repair costs and I don’t notice a whole lot of difference between being naked and wearing armor.
People willing to log on after hours has always been a problem in MMOs. In WoW, getting the achievement for killing a city boss was impossible on some pvp servers. Highly rated arena teams would decide to fight you instead of queuing for arena etc. The trick was to log on after everyone went to bed.
What do you want arena.net to do, sell a ‘do not disturb’ sign that you can hang on a keep after hours that keeps everyone out?
i’m go to do do wvw at 80. my concern is that the queues to get into wvw will be very long.
take your armor off before you adventure. so far, my weapons have never needed repair so i don’t think they get damaged.
I stopped repairing my armor and now do dungeons naked. I’ve saved a forturne. If anyone asks why I’m naked, I tell them it’s a bug.
I stopped get my armor repaired so I’m naked.
A turrent build is the only way to go, that and a rifle for it’s CC. Supply crate too. Sometimes I switch out flame turrent for the thumper if I need a tank.
I got all the turret skills in the tools trait line and the firearms skill that grants vulnerabilty on crit.
It works for me.
Go grenades. Get the trait where you throw an extra grenade. Learn to kite with grenades. Get the trait where crits have a chance to grant vulnerability.
Your problems will be over.
(Thumper turrent is a pretty good tank if you want to stick to turrents)
Use “pulling” tactics when you can. The party stays well out of aggro range. The puller, perhaps a thief or mesmer goes into the room and tries to pull one or two mobs. If they pull to many, they drop combat.
This is how it was done in the old Everquest days and it works in GW2.
It’s slow going though.
