Now that we are headed back to the Crystal Desert (so hyped), any chance of seeing one of my favorite GW1 skins (elemental sword) making a re-appearance in BLC/Gem store?
So costs for scribe are going down because as Gaile said scribe was not how it was intended. What about the scribes that have large guilds and fully open halls that have spent 1000s and 1000s literally of gold already besides what little their guildies have donated to them? is that really fair since “scribe isn’t how it was intended” as stated by Gaile? and will anything be done about this? i can provide 100s of screens of what our Hall now looks like along with all the banners and wvw upgrades i have built. Most guilds are only lucky enough to have 1 scribe that spent all that money to get to 400 to help their guild. so basically will there be any compensation for the scribes that have done this since “it was not how it was intended”?
It was acknowledged many times that scribing costs were too high. And even if it they weren’t, everyone who made a bunch of stuff at high prices (myself included btw), obviously thought it was worth it at the time. What changed? Are you someone who buys, for example, a new car, and then complains and attempts to get money from the dealership when they have some random sales event? To sit here now and ask for recompense is utter ridiculousness. Is this fair? YES. Furthermore, you’ve enjoyed those upgrades for all of this time. If you want to be fair, then have ANET reimburse you for all the upgrades and decorations, have them all taken away including all of your scribing levels, and then locked out for an amount of time equal to how long you’ve had em.
I’m sure people will find reasons to complain, but this is fantastic news, not only for the content, but also for what it indicates (to me at least). 1) It indicates that changes that the player base has been asking for are being made, 2) It indicates a policy of disclosure and openness— which I like quite a bit.
At least in my eyes, this is a great second step in the right direction. (The first being the willingness to make a hard decision and be open and upfront about it)
May as well throw my unsolicited 2 cents into this thread. (I’m not going to read 30 pages of what I can only imagine is a cesspool at this point.)
Mistakes were made. I get it. You get it. ANet definitely gets it. And now, they are trying to fix said mistakes. This will require a substantial amount of short term pain, for hopefully a significant long term gain.
I’m hopeful for the 6-12 month future, and here’s why: consider the stakes. Most, if not all, community goodwill has been expended. Either things improve, or the game dies. At this point, I don’t really see a viable scenario where the game just limps along in perpetuity

WP discusses issues facing the GW2 community in a logical, salient manner. You don’t have to agree with him to be able to watch the video and see if his ideas/content have any value. Maybe you completely disagree- and that’s totally fine. (I’m assuming here) that the whole point of this thread and WP’s videos are to start/have a conversation about what the community feels are important issues. The video is at least worth a listen.
You can also get it as a random drop. On Shatterer I once got a Charzooka, which is an ascended rifle with a huge skin.
the charzooka is an exotic rifle. although, you are correct that in certain instances you can be rewarded with an ascended weapon chest:

In my opinion, the only reason to craft ascended weapons/armor is for fractals (due to agony infusion slots). As you’ve mentioned, the added damage and stats is nearly negligible.
I’d have to say crafting what you want would be the cheapest. Compare sinister to any other set (because its acquisition is different and therefore could possibly be a cheaper route). The verata’s ascended insignia recipe costs 600 bandit crests and some silver vs 21k karma for others at a crafter NPC, so that’s a bit of a loss. Each individual verata’s armor piece recipe is much cheaper however (20-70 silver per piece for a total of 1g-5g total) as compared to 5 laurels and 3 gold for other individual armor recipes bought from the crafter NPC (total 30 laurels and 18 gold). However, this cost is offset by the fact that you then must convert the stats on the final armor piece at a cost of 1 anthology of heroes and an exotic insignia per (60 spirit shards and 30-50gold depending upon the chosen stats).
The absolute cheapest method of acquisition is to earn armor boxes through fractals and then convert using the mystic forge. If this isn’t an option or something you’re interested in pursuing, I’d just craft what you want
I was watching the most recent wooden potatoes vid from 1/19 and in that video he discussed the recently successful efforts to decode the “Orrian syllabary” found upon a few orrian monoliths throughout the game. For whatever reason this really struck a chord with me. All I could think was, “Holy kitten. how epic.”

Depends at which price you bought, if the wintersday gifts exchange for ugly cloths will be the same as last year and if the loot tables for wintersday gifts will be adjusted.
Ugly cloth prices propably already hit their peak or will over the weekend.
If wintersday gifts will offer exactly the same, their prices will drop significantly and fast.
If new items get introduced (which I believe because they done the same to t&t bags during halloween) you might be better off to wait and sell after release.
Personally, i bought plenty of stacks for myself and i dont plan on selling them but exchange them for gifts to open as fast as possible after release, if they loot tables stay the same. That way i take advantage of the high buy orders for the rare loot on the tp.
If they change the loot tables, i might wait to sell.
One thing most people forget to consider is that last year wintersday gifts were available from the glory vendor in pvp, so this year, even if wintersday itself will be the same, the gift faucet might not be as open as last year.

Wow, this is a completely new subject that has never been discussed before. Anet’s parent company is publicly traded and publishes its financial records quarterly. Thus we can see how Anet’s terrible business practices have lead to nearly two years of tossing money into a black hole and the entire company is days away from bankruptcy. I only hope that those with the authority to make decisions at the company see your insightful posts in time to reverse their course and begin making a profit.

but seriously, it has been discussed before, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be discussed again.
i see what you’re saying about obscuring the cost, but i have to disagree. mainly for two reasons, 1) you have a shot at other stuff besides scraps/ BL tickets, and 2) there are other methods of obtaining skins besides BL chests
if you’re also saying that some really questionable items are for sale in the gem store for silly prices, I obviously agree.
also consider this- IF Anet just put ley line skins in the gem store for whatever (say 1500 gems per), no one would buy them. this includes people who do want them. we actually have greater supply and ability to obtain BL skins (as a community) than we otherwise would. Im not much of a BL chest gambler, but I certainly appreciate those who are, and who then sell me new skins for cheap

I think a new currency would be fair (I know, not like we don’t have enough as is). And how to obtain said currency which wouldn’t overlap with existing ones would take some thought as well.
how is the scraps —> tickets route shady in any way?
if ANET simply decreased the drop rate of scraps by 10 (10 scraps per ticket), people would be up in arms because ‘the droprate is too low.’
as you acknowledge, NOTHING offered by the BLC is needed to play. so if the idea of scraps is that detestable to you, just buy skins with gold.
and if you do like to support ANET with cash, just buy gems. Then convert it to gold and get whatever you want.
additional thought- the BLC is a gamble. and it has certain super duper silly rare rewards, which are exclusive (perm contracts comes to mind). some people are willing to gamble for them. anyone who is in earnest buying BL keys to earn BL tickets is being really inefficient, as they could just buy skins @ 50-70g when they come out.
it would be fairly easy to do a blind odds pool. (people bet X gold on team-1 or team-2 to win any given game and the odds are determined by how much gold is placed on either team).
the real problem is finding someone that everyone will trust with their gold, that will be around all day to take bets, and that won’t bet themselves.
would be great, but GL. you may as well make a betting pool with friends/ guildies
ACTUALLY- now that I think about it, it would be fairly easy. If you have a storage guild, just invite people and give them permissions to deposit in stash, and have them mail you their pick for any given game.
Open all of your Unid dyes now. Here was my logic, keeping in mind that I have all common and uncommon dyes unlocked. 1) If you get a duplicate, you get an unid dye back in 3 days. So no loss there. 2) You have a shot at an Abyssal or Celestial (I landed a celestial yesterday). 3) Worst case scenario, I get a rare dye that I don’t have and get to add it to my account-wide pallet.
What concerns me more is that all jewelcrafting materials went down – gold, silver and platinum ore – while all high level cooking mats went up.
but those have been slowly trending up for a while
im less worried about people stocking up on high level crafting mats, and more worried about people suddenly dropping a ton of ore on the TP when they know those mats are guaranteed to be used in the JC500 patch
I know this is a bit paranoid, but any chance this is a result of people who have tested the patch and realizing we don’t need nearly that many plat/gold/silver ingots and dumping, or realizing the JC500 isn’t useful and dumping mats?
