33. Love the game. My only real disappointments are the armor choices, all three light armor professions, and dungeons. My favorite 3 toons (warrior, thief, ranger) are level capped, so there’s not much incentive to log on right now, but I didn’t buy the game expecting weekly xpacs. Leveling was fun, and the community is much better than any other MMO I’ve played. Good enough for me.

Most Powerful Class

Don’t give me the ’it’s the player’ garbage. If all the professions were just as powerful as the next then we would see a more even population spread of professions, but we don’t. And it’s not about the user-friendliness either, because most players will work with complex professions if they felt like the reward for what they put into it was fair. Some professions are great, and some should not have made been released in their current form. Plain and simple.

I have an 80 warrior, thief and ranger. PvP with my warrior it simply destroys. I farm with my ranger because of its ability to tag large groups of mobs slightly more efficiently than my warrior and theif, but I don’t do as well with her in PvP. My thief is cute, and enjoys modeling her vast array of dyes.

Wow, very interesting logic in this thread.

As with Delmarqo, I feel like I got my money’s worth out of the game, but the professions need work. It just can’t be overlooked. If the only people left playing the game are the ones who feel like there is no work to be done, then GW2 will be a colossal failure.

There’s a certain point where an RNG should work in the player’s favor. If enough people buy lotto tickets, someone eventually wins, otherwise jackpots would get into the billions and people would eventually realize that there’s no point in putting money into the game. I’m not saying that the lotto and RNG for the MF are exactly the same, but more and more people are going to give up on the MF if it doesn’t throw a bone to someone at least once in awhile. Certainly the schmo in that video up there should have gotten something good if the system was fair.

Compared to most MMOs I’ve played, the customization isn’t that bad. I’m surprised that most companies that run them still don’t seem to grasp how important an element it is. I can forgive a lot of things in the game if the character customization is great. As far as GW2 is concerned, all I’d really ask for at this point is a hide option for each armor piece as it would open up more customization options across the board.

If people leave, they leave. It’s really not much skin off of Anet’s back. There are plenty of current WoW players who swore that they were through with Blizzard after Cataclysm and D3, but are playing MoP right now. Anet would have to go waaaay out of their way to make enough players angry enough to truly swear off of their products for forever. People will always come back. If they do it for p2p MMOs, they they’ll definitely do it for f2p ones.

gduber.9756

My only problem with it is the range. Seriously, it should at least have the range of a long/short bow. No, I lied. Actually my second problem with it is that it’s a trait skill. If you’re going to have a profession that specializes in ranged attacks, there are some elements that should be default.

Concentrate skillpoints into shadow-arts and acrobatics for leveling. Together with signet of malice and assasain’s reward, survivability will not be a problem anymore with pretty-much any weapon you prefer (SB ftw).

Warrior is good for everything right now, but I got bored with mine for other reasons. Ranger is excellent for DE farming and tagging mobs for when you want to grind for cash and loot, or for single-target action. You can either go for a pet-centric build or a build that relies very little on your pet. I haven’t tried my thief or ranger in dungeons yet and don’t plan to, but I hear both do well (although thief has a learning curve).

All three light armor classes are busted right now as far as I’m concerned, but if you really want one I suggest mesmer. I hear that they are hard to level due to comparatively low damage output, but are a great support class and I think they have some good aoe attacks (see end-game farming).

What do you think is overall the best profession, and why?

gduber.9756

Thief.

- Just the concept of a class without the traditional cool-down was what got me addicted to it. It’s a mechanic that should be adopted by every class.

- Mobility. Even without the 25% speed passive, there are other options available to get you from point A to point B very quickly.

- Damage with Heals. Signet of Malice has helped me survive so many encounters where I know my warrior or ele would have been worn down quickly due to little or no healing. Ele has a good healing platform, but you’re dead before you can cast any of the spells.

- Armor. Medium armor is the best-looking in the game right now (coat plague aside). For some reason, I play good looking toons more than bland ones.

On a side note, I really hope Anet fixes at least one of the clothie classes because I’d really love to level one up. I got my ele to 40 and stopped because the only viable pve build was a clunky conjured hammer melee build and my thief/warrior already fills that spot. Deleted about 7 necro toons out of frustration, but it was the class that I wanted to play the most after playing GW1. I’d try Mesmer if the damage was buffed, but leveling a toon that’s really only good for pvp and support in pve isn’t appealing. The animations and the gameplay look fun, though.

My favorite class ever (after GW1 necro) was the ‘sacrier’ from Dofus. The primary stat for the class was vitality and its stats improved in combat based on the amount of damage it took. It’s an incredibly fun class to play because it you want just enough damage to get strong, but too much damage and you don’t make it through the fight.

If Orr was a more happy place, people would be nicer. Put yourself in someone else’s shoes for a moment. You come home from work, deal with the kids, get the wife off your back and finally get a chance to sit down for a little while to work on your GW2 toon. In short order, you’re mad at the mobs, you’re mad at the events, you’re mad that your bags were completely full and you barely broke 20 silver (on average), you don’t know for sure if all the magic-find drugs you’re on are working, it cost over a silver to get to where you need to go but you can’t go there because it’s contested, so you have to run through 20 mobs to get to the last 30 seconds of an event and only to have another one spawn from where you just left, and DR kicks in shortly thereafter.

Not exactly a scenario that promotes happy feelings in players.

I'm curious what everyone thinks.

…For farming. My thief bleeds take things down quick, but for events where high crit tagging mobs generates loot, I have to say that my greatsword warrior does it better. I’m using SB and D/D and am specced 30/30/0/0/10. My gear is mostly power with magic find rune/sigils. Am I perhaps doing something wrong?

My method is to use mostly shortbow, and rarely my daggers (mobs are dead before bleeds can do proper damage). I use daggers when solo farming (no competition).

I’m not looking to completely outshine my greatsword warrior (unless it’s possible somehow), just to be able to tag mobs hard enough to be competitive.

Karma farming = Stand in Lone Point, where the level 74 event spawns every few minutes. Use a Karma Booster. Apply ground targeted AoE. Announcing this, along with the number of people who spam every event that pops every time it pops, is just not a good idea.

I don’t know what you’re getting at there, but GW2 encourages high participation and team work in events (more people = greater mob spawn).

Between the anti-farming measures and high teleportation prices at later levels, it would be a good idea to let a player see what DEs are happening in areas that they have discovered, instead of having to be in the area to know. I spend so much money traveling to places that have lucrative events only to find that they have just ended, are about to end, or start when I leave.

Similar to map markers commerce, crafting, (etc.), a player could check off the areas that he/she wants highlighted on the parts of the world map that they have discovered when DEs spawn there.
- Time saved.
- Travel fee issue mostly solved (through DEs rewards and loot).
- More straight forward accumulation of karma.
- Encourages players to discover new areas.
- Helps to break the monotony of farming.
- Increases DE participation (more people = more mobs spawned).

Then you’re stuck with an empty slot for the rest of the boss fight wishing you had put your SoR in there instead.

What profession?

I’ve been wondering this same thing for awhile now, as well. I may be mistaken here, but I think toughness is the better investment. Toughness is armor. You take less damage without depending on signets or traits to benefit from it, and it’s typically sufficient to trait for it without having to think about it on your gear, or gear for it and trait into an offensive tree. Sorry, I don’t think that helps you but it’s a thread-bump, so love me.

Skimpy/Revealing armor is one of the things that I wouldn’t mind paying real money for. The one bright side to the armor situation is that dungeon armors are so terrible that I feel zero inclination to grind them for them. Nearly everything for every profession is a variation of skirts or coats. I cannot believe that a team of talented artists were satisfied with this. There had to be some sad prude authority figure who held them back.

Let me get this straight…

DE: a repeating event that typically spawns mobs that drop loot.

Grub Slinging Giant: a respawning mob that spawns mobs that drop(ped) loot.

I guess I missed how that was an exploit. So in theory, there will come a day where mobs in DEs won’t drop loot at all in order to curb the acquisition of mats…along with the already-impletmented anti-farming measures? Ouch.

I was just about to give up on thief as well, but this build changed my life. I don’t yet personally know how it hold up in pvp, but for pve I’m taking down 5 or 6 mobs of my level as long as I pop caltrops and move around like crazy (using either d/d or sb). Although it doesn’t really sound like a build is the OP’s problem as much as the mechanics of the class, maybe this will help someone else out.

gduber.9756

Yeah, if you’re looking for mobility, slap a short-bow on a thief and you get a teleport skill that really comes in handy for traveling. Speed boosts aren’t everything, though.

Ranger is turning out to be much more fun than I expected and specing into beastmastery makes your pet nigh unbeatable.

They are not as good for farming as warrior, however, and farming ability really matters at higher levels where you want plenty of powerful aoe options for farming, and survivability against unexpected mobs that are hard to kite.

The options for female heavy armor (including dungeon currency exotics) are disappointing so far. I typically try to go as scantily clad as possible for my female toons but the ‘bikini ’ tops are atrocious and the leggings are all uninteresting skirts (the T3 cultural isn’t so bad). Anyhow, this is my favorite outfit for now, mostly accumulated through the personal story or TP.

Almost, but not yet. I’m really po’ed about what they did to the dungeons but I’m not yet entirely bored of playing other parts of the game. If they would make DEs and mobs more lucrative to make up for the lack of worthwhile dungeon rewards, I think more people wouldn’t mind it.

I finally took time to look at the armor that requires such terrible grinds, and it’s really not that impressive (at least Norn female heavy, my main is a warrior), so I have no reason to do that. I actually found my favorite combination of armor off the TP and personal-story. It was nice to make a little travel money from running dungeons, but even before the nerf it was laughable. Anet took away dungeons as an option, so it’s clear that they want players progress in other ways. I think they’ve shot themselves in the foot, but life goes on.

Um, news flash. Yes…God yes there is. I don’t know what world you’re living in. Have you heard of 50 shades of gray? Magic mike? Women /love/ skimpy just as much as men. They like to stare at buns and skin on their toons just as much.

You must be one of those men who believe women don’t watch porn.

“News flash”? That’s cute. How you’d come to that conclusion based on what I said, I don’t understand. I based my theory on my own experience in forum boards with this game and other MMOs. I’ve rarely (if ever) seen anyone request that more revealing clothes be added for male toons, or read posts where people admired the sexiness of a male toon. However, such posts regarding female toons are in abundance in almost every game. That is not me saying that such requests/posts don’t exist, neither does it translate into me believing that women have no sex drive.

So you are requesting sexy, skimpy armor only female characters, not male characters? How very sexist. Please, do not assume that straight men are the only audience worth considering……

Alright, to be clear, what happens to male Norn, male Human, Char, Asura, or Sylvari armor does not concern me. It’s not sexist or racist, it’s a matter of taste…and it’s a video game. If Anet decides to make these clothing choices available for all races and both sexes, I would appreciate that too.

As i already said in the betas I m rather disappointed by the variety of armors. Most heavy armor is just plate tin cans and most leather just coats with pants. Sure there are a few exceptions but the variety just isnt there.
GW1 was much better in this aspect: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Prophecies_armor

Also from what i ve seen the sylvari armor could use a few more revealing sets for medium/heavy.

That’s the page I was looking for to reference to! I’m not asking for thongs and lingerie but GW1 at least had the option available for most tastes. I always loved the tatoo armor, and am surprised that the idea hasn’t made it into GW2. Ugggh, and don’t get me started on the leather coat infestation.

Nothing wrong with players having the ability and choice on choosing the style of the armors varieties out there.

If they want something more on the “Wild Party-Crowd” side, sure. If they want something on the “Nun Conservative” side, fine. Some of us actually enjoy the " WildParty Crowd" clothes much more than the mundane, boring and sometimes drag of clothes we’re cubicaled into by the real world.

We don’t want to be the overly-dress dorky secretaries or unattractive joe. We have the real world for that.

Often too much what has been happening to mmo is this constant drama lock pull of gender politic issues instead of taking the game as it is at face-value. A fantasy game meant for fun and play.

Couldn’t have said it better (as indicated by the opening post). With a store that sells transmutation stones, a large and varied range of available armor options for each type should have been a no-brainer.

As in every mmo I play, I’ve done extensive research as to what the most revealing armor is, and I must say that for GW2, I’m a bit disappointed. First let me say that this is about female toons, as I don’t think there is similar demand for scantily clad dude toons. Second, I’m not asking for Tera. Well, sort of, at least in terms of revealing armor for every class, and nearly every level.

So far, about three pieces of light armor, and three pieces of medium armor meet my definition of hot. I have seen two reveling tops for heavy armor classes and no revealing leggings. They are all similar species of metal skirts or the same model of armored pants (I haven’t seen every armor in the game, I understand, and would be happy to be corrected on this). I’m only speaking based upon the numerous threads with pictures of people’s toons and other image searches.

I know it can be done, not only because there is a very wide range of styles for NPCs in the game but because you did it in GW1. You bring back the female warrior elite armor, the necro two-piece-n-tats, the monk sexual-healing uniform, you’d make many players happy. You guys have done great with the dye this time around, and the character creation competes with most MMOs that I’ve played (female Norn tatoos need work, but that’s another discussion). Please give us more revealing armors.

Warrior. Gaurdian’s playstyle is more involved than I like. It seems like you have to push buttons to do what a warrior can do with traits and leveling up (self-preservation wise). Warrior’s ranged options/damage rival and/or exceed rangers as well.
