Am looking forward to my cat portals.
…. I’ve seen attempts by people who’ve ripped the armor models from the game to mix and match. The results are… not pretty. The seams are completely off on all armors. We’re talking every beltline horribly clipping (or leaving extremely unsightly gaps) when going cross-armorweight.
If clipping is an issue don’t allow mix and match between armor classes. Simply allow players to select any type of armor class. For instance I am a ranger and select Heavy Skins, I can now use only heavy skins, and there shouldn’t be a serious clipping issue for armors in the same class.
Anet can make it a gem store item, $10-20 for a character to gain a different armor type than their standard type. Once unlocked add a checkbox in the hero wardrobe to select between types. If a piece of armor has a type that no longer matches the selected type, then give it a default skin from that class until changed and dye channels transfer just like they do now. If at some point down the road clipping is deemed a non-issue, then add an gem store item to enable cross compatibility among your owned character armor types.
Anet makes money so it is worth the development effort, people can get the armor class they like for their characters and we can ignore the pvp/wvw armor profile debate cause outfits killed that.
Win-Win
So would I be flagged for account sharing if I remoted into a PC in another state on the other side of the US and logged onto GW2, then logged in later on my laptop where I was? Just curious since I use wake-on-lan, a remote desktop tool, and a no-ip hostname so I can access my PC from my phone anytime and anywhere, I use this typically just for logging in for daily rewards when I can’t get onto my PC or laptop. It seems to me like it could be possible to be wrongly flagged for account sharing in such a scenario where you can potentially log in from a IP in another state or country.
I’m not debating your decision in a tournament situation, but I would guess the system for checking this is based on IP location and time between log ins, which is why if you were to remote in to a PC at a IP that was geographically distant from my current location and play gw2 then switch to a laptop and play you would easily be flagged
I’m guessing there will be a quest to kill 3 NPC children that will be gated behind several fail events.
Can’t optimize well so they remove the cool effects. “People hate cool looking games….” Said no one ever.
Wait, it’s better-optimized now? I didn’t notice any difference… O.o
It is no better optimized.
I’m waiting for a cash shop item that removes adds. $1000 gems to remove adds for 6 months! Why else wouldn’t there be a option to hide them yet? Because it is another opportunity to monetize the game.
Sarcasm aside the notifications are very annoying. It can’t be that hard to code and option to hide them, but there are currently so many bugs I doubt Anet will have them all fixed in the next 6 months let alone have time to add simple QoL improvements.
Yeah, I don’t think there is a CPU on the market that can run this game without framerate drops. At least not at my resolution, 2560×1440. 4.4ghz i7-5930k, gtx 980 (soon to be x2 sli), 16GB 2666mhz ddr4, 512GB PCIE SSD. I could push the OC further to squeeze out more frames, but I just don’t have the time to stability test it right now and 4.4 has been the easiest stable point.
Why on Tyria would you ever want to salvage a legendary?
Because you have two (made pre-wardrobe) for the novelty of wielding two of the same skin at once.
If I could recoup the mats and use them toward a different legendary I would.
@hazenvirus Thank you, that chart is extremely helpful.
Do you know what the blade aura is? Does the blade glow or something? I feel like Sunrise has a blade aura so I don’t know how strong of an aura Eternity is.
It has an additional smokey looking aura, similar to the Eternity player aura, that appears around the blade in addition to the beams/small particles that radiate from Twilight and Sunrise.
Twilight and Sunrise do not have the smokey aura around the blade.
When I get home later I might post some screenshots.

Eternity had much better effects if you don’t mind it changing between Sunrise/Twilight Model. The Eternity character aura are different from Sunrise/Twilight as well, much larger and more interesting.

Considering the base code is broken to the point that it causes non-stop OOM crashes to a huge part of the player base unless they play at potato graphic quality alongside all the other issues we are seeing I would definitely say it is incomplete.
The kicker is they have known about the OOM issue since launch. I guess development time to fix real game issues falls by the wayside when it could be spent developing multi colored wings that make millions.
Only crash i have ever had so far is the guild upgrade/guild menu crash. And one disconnect on teq. Allthough i’m playing on the lowest sexxings outside of texture and unit count.
Which has probably saved you from having crashes. Most people getting OOM error stop getting it when they turn graphics down to potato quality.
The sad part is a lot of the people having crashes have gaming systems the blow away the minimum requirements of every modern game and crush GW2’s requirements. A lot of us don’t like having to play the game at anything lower than max settings because our hardware can handle it. If Anet can’t fix the issue we will always have a crash looming in the background if we want to play a good looking game and do large events at the same time.
That is a good way to drive away potential customers too.

Posting this because I see too many people trying to fix things on their end when it is not their fault in any way.
Edit guess I wasn’t the first to link it, oh well.
As for an ETA, they’very known about this for 3 years. If it becomes a priority hopefully soon…

Dev Response:
tl;dr: We’re aware!
First thing: we are aware. OOM crashes are the single biggest crash we have on the client side since the original GW2 launch; we’ve been hacking away at them for three years; and we recently added a lot of new tracking code, which we are analyzing.
Second thing: whoever posted that the problem is memory fragmentation is correct.
Third: Our test crew uses 32-bit Windows (XP!) almost entirely and this didn’t show up on their machines, so it’s something more subtle than the amount of RAM you have.
Fourth: The client is a 32-bit application; if it runs under 32-bit Windows, it only gets 2 gigabytes of RAM; if it runs under 64-bit Windows (which is 94% of our players) it has access to 4 gigabytes of RAM. But as I said, we ran the game a lot under [what we thought was] the worst scenario, which was 32-bit windows (XP!) and didn’t see these problems.
Fifth, if you have 32- bit Windows and 3-4 gigabytes of RAM (4 is the max 32-bit Windows supports) Windows will primarily use that RAM for disk caching after it creates the usual system tables.
Sixth: Someone is running Windows 10 in 32-bit? We have never tried that as far as I know. Holy moly. I suspect Windows 10 consumes a lot more system memory than older Windows, so that might be a key fact, and we’ll look into that. 32-bit Windows 10 sounds like the worst scenario.
Seventh (edit): Try making sure you are fully patched up before you play; the streaming client has been pretty successful for us but if it turns out something in our memory management system was on the edge, then streaming client might have put it over, as it can increase memory fragmentation. Just let the green bar on the login screen go to the end, instead of hitting play at “playable”.

Send in bug reports, you can do it in game. Seems like not to many people are having this issue, and Arenanet is not going to be able to fix it unless they get good information and able to recreate what is happening in order to fix it. A friend of mine was having an issue shortly after the game released, he sent in a bug report though the game, and he ended up getting an email from Arenanet asking for more info from him, some log files, dxdiag, and then a patch came a little bit later and fixed the bug.
So do your due diligence in reporting it through the proper channels to help them get if fixed.
I am reporting every crash since HOT was released…that doesn’t seem to help so far.
The expansion has only been out for 1 week. Bug squashing can take more than that.
DEV confirmed issue has existed since launch. They’ve been “working” on it for three years.
The client can’t manage memory well and frequently gets OOM errors now due to the new maps and increased resource usage. This isn’t a player problem, but an issue inherent in the code. Turning graphics down helps, but we shouldn’t need to if Anet took the time to fix the code. This has been happening since before HoT (Most people didn’t notice because it only happened in big events like Teq and much less) there is no reason it shouldn’t be fixed nor should we have to conform our systems to work with broken code.

The idea is you don’t have to get lucky and if you have issues saving up a large sum of gold to buy it then you can do it in small pieces or farm some of the items. I’ve been telling people to expect it to cost at least as much if not more since it was announced. If you expected to run around the world doing a simple scavenger hunt and then be awarded a high value item you are sadly mistaken. Your precursor crafting materials are not only effected by the demand for the precursor, but other competing items.
Unless something has changed in the last week, GW2 has never done that. It was always dumps you into a lower population map if you were in a full/high one
There is a quote from Colin where he states the game is designed to save your spot in the map for a short time if you crash. It is not working 100%, however, or maybe not at all for Full/Capped Maps.
It seems like a lot of people are crashing due to the OOM error in HoT maps. What kind of low end potato system do I need to buy in order to run the game without crashing?
As far as I know this is only game where having a high end system is detrimental because the game can’t manage memory properly.
Edit: I know I can just turn the graphics down, but what are the maximum settings I can use before GW2 starts crashing? I don’t want to play with potato quality graphics on my nice PC.

I like the allied defensive boon suggestion with self boons from the Reaper also proccing the effect.
Reaper still has control over their own boons, but they benefit from group defensive boons while in shroud.
Apparently they considered this though.
Or you know, they could just leave the self boon part alone and only add the ICD to incoming allied boons. I proposed something like 4 boons every 3 seconds from allies, with the self boon part intact.
There should not be cooldowns on the skills.
Either remove energy or leave it alone. Soon all the Revenant abilities will have energy and cooldown costs and we will have a completely different class. Legends and energy are the class mechanic, change the way the skill works if it is too strong. Adding cooldowns to and energy based class is the lowest level of developer laziness imo. Fix it properly or not at all.
Limit the number of allied boons that could proc the heal every 3 seconds. Leave self applied boons as is with no ICD. If it is still too powerful increase the interval or reduce the number for allied boons.
I like the idea of keeping the healing/LF on self boons and only allowing x number of allied boons per 2-4 seconds. Reaper gets some scaling for groups, but can still control boon some of their own application.
Allied boons could even have reduced healing alongside the number of allied boons per second or have diminishing returns on incoming boons that resets every 5 or 10 seconds.
There are so many ways to balance this with group size it is strange that they felt it couldn’t be balanced.
I think I could get on board with the change if I was sure it would get another serious look soon, because while healing got a boost it took a massive hit compared to its previous level. I seem to remember a post about waiting to see where the new stuff settled, is 5 days really enough time to judge a skill broken and remove a core piece of its functionality (allied boon application).
I just tested it in Auric and the healing change seems large enough that you can do some significant self healing with proper traits, sigils, and skill usage. Maybe it will be okay, at this point I just don’t like that it doesn’t scale as well in groups, which allowed necro shroud to scale up somewhat with content. This trait is a shadow of its former self in groups.
Edit:
Also thanks Robert Gee for making Necro fun to play again. Despite my negativity here I still love the changes for HoT and the class. I would just like people to look upon necro when it joins a party and have people go, cool we have a necro. Instead of, I wish we had X class instead.
(edited by hazenvirus.8154)
I’m fine with this change. It normalizes the effect across all game modes and party situations, which means it will actually be possible to balance it fairly. If it needs another buff to its numbers (and it may), ANet will be able to make that change without worrying about making it too strong in group situations.
All it needed was a short ICD on incoming allied boons (leave self applied alone). It was stated it got nerfed because other classes had too much outgoing boon application (hello herald) Controlling that with an ICD so it fit the rate they initially expected would have been a much better change imo.
It looks likes they want necro to continue to reign supreme in their meta group slot though… which is being solo because they aren’t welcome.
(edited by hazenvirus.8154)
I think a better middle ground would have been no ICD for self applied boons, but a ICD for incoming allied boons. I think removing the group synergy was a mistake especially for a class that already under performs in nearly every aspect of the game when compared to other classes. This allowed necro to be tanky in group situations where their lack of active defenses made them less tanky than other classes with strong active protection skills. It also fed into the current selfish necro aspect with the necro using boons even more for themselves and providing nothing to the party in the form of boons, now they continue to provide nothing, and are even more of a liability in a game the hinges on players supporting each other.
I mean who really cares if the necro became hard to kill in a massive zerg situation. I did dragons stand and champions or focus from elites can still down anyone in seconds, including a reaper with BB.
I expected knee jerk nerfs soon, but not for necro… the real irony is that necro got nerfed because other classes provide too much support in the form of boons meanwhile necro provides none.
(edited by hazenvirus.8154)
I run GS, Dagger/Focus. Unless there are a lot of enemies, enemies are below 50%, or you need 3, 4, 5 for a specific reason you should probably use something else.
Dagger has some decent life force gain. Combined with blighters boon/str sigil I regen very fast.

So you are gliding and then you get disconnected. Where does the game put you when you log back in? Does it drop you like a rock and you spawn in dead or does it place you on the ground at the place you were last connected?
Currently if you jump off a cliff and log out, the game will simply set you on the ground below you or above you (common method for getting to high places from under the map), essentially teleporting you to the spot without any fall damage. Assuming it will be the same and a way to save yourself from high falls.

You know if they rework the code they can keep the dx9 option and let people pick between different rendering options. That way if you don’t want to or can’t utilize dx12 then you can keep on playing as usual.
Also 64-bit client would be nice. Right now using max settings on gw2 with a high end machine will result in a crash during large events because of the 32-bit client limitations, not the machine.
Yeah, but at some point if Anet wants to push their development beyond its current state having a engine that performs better could give devs the room they need to implement even bigger and better content without worrying as much about current performance limitations.
So if I find something I should 1) Report it 2) Watch for months as it is exploited and people reap the rewards 3) Feel like a fool when it is fixed and none of those people get banned or punished in any way
Okay…

I’ve got two Bolts from pre wardrobe. Just going to be another shot to the gut to people who made multiple, just like wardrobe was orignally. The kicker is there will be nothing unique about having made a duplicate legendary except the garbage title that I will never wear.
2 Ascended zerker sets, one with hoelbrak runes (WvW) and one with strength runes (PvE). All the ascended trinkets/rings/amulets I could want. Bolt x2, Juggernaut, Kamohoali’I Kotaki. Instant 80 with + 30 and a bunch of tomes.
My Reaper will be getting a similar treatment, but is already 80 with one ascended set and enough damask for a second.
I will main Revenant and Reaper.

How much gear does ANET expect us to carry ?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: hazenvirus.8154
The whole end product of raids is legendary armour, so they are making it possible to not have any extra sets in your inventory.
As a side note from the little I played the raid it looks like if you take more than 3 or 4 pure zerk players you will be limiting how effective the raid runs.
And then you realize the cost of swapping runes on that legendary armor… it won’t help at all if your different builds depend on varying sets of runes. Legendary weapons have the same issue right now.
Time for Anet to add the often suggested rune/sigil libraries to legendary armor and weapons.
Reaper brings little support, so the only reason to take them to Dungeons, Fractals, Raids, in PvE is dps. Dps needs to be one of the things that defines Reaper compared to other classes, in a party, or we will always be last pick for PvE content.
Necro might is only for the necro… other players that stack might well can do it for an entire party and actually achieve better party results than the necro. I think this balances it out. Even if a warrior can only achieve half the stacks, but they do it for the entire party, the warrior’s might stacking was more beneficial and doesn’t take as long to stack up.
Basically, there is balance because of the necros lack of boon support for the party they get superior self buffing for might. Seems fair.
Oh, and the obligatory pvp isn’t balanced around 1v1s.
Anet will have to make surviving a bigger part of raids for necros to be accepted along with the new changes catching us up in the dps category a bit.
The plus necro has is survivability without taking away from DPS too much. Thanks to our bonuses like Decimate Defenses and +50% critical chance in shroud, we can ignore precision and take something like valkyrie(power, precision, ferocity), maybe sprinkle some toughness in there if needed and lose very little offensive capability, especially in an environment where the raid group will quickly stack vulnerability on important dps phases, virtually eliminating our need for precision.
Each point of vitality is more useful to necro because of shroud than it would be for other classes. Necro can also go pure tank with soldier gear and the death magic line, which makes us very tanky especially against large packs of mobs.
Also if mechanics force the raid to split up, necros don’t need anyone to stack might and vulnerability. We also now have a decent projectile block and we can boon strip. While we lack boon sharing, hopefully thsee things combined with our des and survivability will make necros seem like less of a burden for groups.
(edited by hazenvirus.8154)
Sub in some Valk for added survivability. Your HP pool and shroud will benefit. Plus you don’t drop any ferocity. You can make up the lost precision with decimate defenses. I don’t think any 10 man group will lack in vulnerability application so you should always have around 50% or more critical chance on any mob that lasts for decent amount of time. With reaper shroud you can stack vulnerable and might up to 25 solo then swap to GS at 50% and spam gravedigger.
You forgot that you can buy t6 mats with laurels, and that’s what people will do (either to use themselves, or to sell).
That might help hold back prices for awhile, but what about lodestones, silver doubloons, ectos?
Did anyone really expect Anet to just hand out precursors with no cost attached except time played?
Even if they did hand them away demand would shift to the the other mats. The mats would boom to 1-2+ gold a piece and then you’d have your wish of incremental progress farming thousands of ridiculously expensive mats that would also impact other crafted items. But hey, at least it isn’t gold right?

NPCs more important than player characters.

Someone mentioned in another thread that they could just make aqua breathers a skin and use the helmet stats even when in the water. I’d prefer that personally.
I am not saying you have, but I dont think being angry to the point of calling names and such is justified. Maybe I should have been clearer with the toxicity level.
Yeah, I imagine the point of this thread is not to tell people that they don’t have a right to complain or to express an opinion. People have a right to express disappointment and anger in a reasonable way, but they do not have the right to do what you described, e.g. telling people to uninstall their games, calling names, etc., especially if they’re just trying to get clarification, ask a question or give an opinion of their own. You can be frustrated without taking it out on other people – in fact, if you’re so angry, you should take it out on the Mordrem! Anet even said it was their fault in the first place. XP
Finally someone got it! 10 points to you! lol They can express it all they want, but I think it shouldnt be at the expense of someone else.
Well asking Anet politely doesn’t exactly have a good track record of getting changes to happen. People will go to the extreme due to the way Anet handles problems that are perceived by the playerbase, if if that means stirring up people in a negative manner so be it. Asking Anet politely didn’t get my legendary refunded during the Wardrobe patch while many others got a refund(probably didn’t help that so few people had the problem), but lashing out at Anet over the Hot pricing scheme got a character slot added and there was a lot of hatred directed at other players during that debacle.
The way these issues are handled only reinforces extremely negative responses toward Anet and their staff as well as players who support them.
I really didnt mean to upset anyone, was just trying to help the community a little with a small thought from me.
And I never said that no one should be mad about the events, do whatever, but I dont think name calling or aggressively asserting your OPINION on someone is very good for the community.
I dunno, maybe I was wrong. I am often.
But I am very sorry if this offended anyone.
Event bugged and the event design rewards leeching more than completing events (tag and run). Players are expressing their dislike for the event and the poor design of it. I personally won’t be participating in this event because of the later. It shouldn’t be too confusing as to why the event is causing toxicity among the playerbase. Players expressing themselves is the best manner to communicate and get the problem corrected now and in the future. If people just accepted everything Anet did and praised poor choices we wouldn’t have the extra slot for Hot either.
This event is broken in both its execution and design. It should be scrapped and taken back to the drawing board.
While I am not particularly looking forward to Revenant at this point, I do have my look picked out.
what set is this? looks great!
Upcoming Revenant specific set for HoT.
I think they should at least give them eotm access. I don’t think anyone would bother trying manipulate an eotm map.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this got ignored, since it has been around since stat swapping got added to weapons. Rune/Sigil library is a good solution where runes/sigils you’ve used on a legendary get stored and can be equipped again at will.
Truth is unless you like the skin it will probably be much cheaper and more efficient to make multiple ascended sets and equip different sets of runes. And if you are planning to swap expensive runes frequently it will be so much cheaper that the legendary might as well just be a pricey skin.
Fingers crossed for the rune/sigil library, don’t count on it though.
