Legendary aura bug

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

hazenvirus.8154

The only issue I think it could have caused was a performance hit for other players and maybe the server as well. Since you could endlessly stack auras until you were glowing as bright as the sun. Previously I did enjoy being able to have both of my equiped auras active at the same time. Especially with Juggernaut and other legendary weapons.

Personally I’d like to see an effects tab in the hero menu or on the legendaries that allow you to keep the aura on or off while the legendary is equiped but not active. That way you could combine your effects if you wanted too.

So your SLI with also the more expensive 980 is a huge waste for atleast gw2.
(why not sli 970.. For real the 980 is just a marketing stunt)

The card might be wasted on gw2, but the 970 is more of a joke than the 980. The 970 suffers from performance issues when it uses over 3.5gb of its available memory.

Unfortunately even if you can push your processor into the 4.0+ ghz range you probably won’t see a consistent 60fps across the entirety of game modes. Your gpu can handle the graphics, but your processor has to deal with the gw2 main thread bottlenecking everything else that happens related to the game. The more players that need to be accounted for on screen, the worse this becomes.

I have a a similar setup with a 4.4ghz processor and gtx 980 at 2560×1440 resolution fullscreen window, since I run with a second monitor. With player quantity and quality at low I can run all other settings on max (smaa) and maintain 60fps or higher in all situations except with zergs, where I will see my framerate drop to around 40-50 fps.

Basically, unless you can push a processor close to 5.0ghz you aren’t going to run this game at max setting and higher resolutions with 60fps at all times. Without zergs, sure 60+fps is easily attainable. Unfortunately a lot of the content revolves around zergs, so you better be ready for the framerate drop.

Twillight vs Sunrise

I have Eternity and I prefer Sunrise. I’d take a look at the blades for each from different angles to determine which you prefer. Sunrise has a much more colorful skybox and trail, but Twilight has better footsteps imo, since you can actually see the stars/nebula rotating relative to your angle of view. At the end of the day it is personal preference though, and I am glad to have both, but I made Sunrise first and have never regretted it.

Black Lion Keys. Are they worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: hazenvirus.8154

hazenvirus.8154

IMO no they don´t.

Black lion chests are a kind of lottery, you can get any “exclusive” item from the Black lion pool. It is only RNG if you get a goodie or not. There are really good things, that´s true but you need a divine blessing in order to get one .We all know how RNG works on this game. I t probably wouldn´t bother me… if Black Lion chests were the only way to get Black Lion skins (aside from an absurd grinding).

When I´m aiming for a skin I want I´m not interested on the boosters (who does) or the chance that stars align and I get something really good. I´m simply not willing on spending a simple gem on a lion chest key for a chance to get a part of a tciket I need. Well I normally need more than a single ticket so I could open A LOT of them and waste a lot of my resources getting things I don´t want.

This system makes the customer feel frustrated and feel that they time they invested on the thing he wanted was worthless because he ended up with nothing but things he doesn´t care.

Right now I´m doing a few keyruns and by the results I´m getting I wonder why would anyone buy these keys. Please share your opinion maybe we could figure out something.

From a statistics point of view they could be worth it now or in the future. Maybe you need at least $2000 invested to guarantee a reasonable return. Most people invest a little at a time and don’t see much and then stop investing, some people get lucky and others break even. It is all supply and demand though if less people buy keys then the cost of skins goes up and vis versa. It could be worth it, but maybe not for the amount you are willing to invest.

Why legendary backs and not ascended?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Legendary armor would be nice but think about runes. Seems so great to be able to swap stats until your runes don’t work with your build. If anet came out with legendary armor I’d make it for the skins not stat swapping. Replacing my strength runes everytime I felt like doing something different would be stupid expensive. At the end of the day if you don’t make a legendary for the skin it is a waste of money, because you could make multiple ascended with runes for each situation and it would cost far less gold.

Okay, I understand you now. I thought you meant that the weapons would be a set fix to the Legend. For example, Jalis has to be a hammer only or Ventair has to be staff only.

Personally, I’d rather Revenant stick to a mode/stance rather than a rotation. I hate the way D/D Elems have to rotate their attunements to be effective as it is. Another class doing that wouldn’t be that fun either.

That’s what makes elementalist fun if you ask me. I don’t think it will work for revenant though unless they plan on adding a an equal amount of skills. Right now Revenant has the short end of the stick with no weapon swapping and static util swapping giving it overall lower total skills than any other profession.

How about a way to see who the boss is actually targeting and a better effect or animation to show when a boss starts an attack animation. This could be added to the UI as text that shows who is being targeted. If it is targeting you the text and boss portrait are highlighted in red. Maybe add an additional UI component near the boss bar that indicates an attack being in progress.

Time to not let people play anyway they want

hazenvirus.8154

I think having no trinity has lead to exactly the opposite if you consider that each player gets to play all 3 roles simultaneously regardless of gear if they choose too. Every class has healing, support, and dps abilities. Any combination works in any dungeons.

The only way to ensure tanks and healers have a place is to make encounters impossible to complete without x defense on one character and y healing on the other. Making passive stats more important than positioning and active defenses reduces the number of viable builds for content completion.

Nothing stops you from playing support or tanky in game currently, unless you try and join groups that don’t want a tank/healer and they kick you. Easily remedied by making your own group.

I really hope we get rifle so i can finally use my hunter rifle skin since it would fit a thief more than a warrior or engi

While I am very much in the pro thief-rifle camp: how exactly does a rifle not fit an engineer?

Well it doesn’t fit engineer because the auto attack fires from the hip, which is a pretty bad way to aim a precision firearm. Warrior it makes some sense though. Somone who isn’t an amazing archer might opt for a firearm, since they require less training to be effective with a firearm.

Don’t think of it as a rifle when Engineers are using it, it’s meant to be a shotgun, as the #3 skill can attest to.

Which is precisely why The Hunter, which looks like a sniper rifle doesn’t fit at all. It is hard to think of it as a shotgun when it looks like a sniper rifle.

Then you don’t play the beta and go do something outside and wonder if you would have gotten a precursor if you weren’t outside… then you can’t sleep because you might have gotten a precusor if you weren’t sleeping.

Beta is for testing and you aren’t required to participate in it.

What you get to keep is experience with the new features and the knowledge that your feedback and actions taken on the beta server might help to make the product you have already or intend to invest in better.

Behold, eles, we might get WARHORN!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: hazenvirus.8154

hazenvirus.8154

I think rather than summoning storms being the focus of tempest, that is was named because the ele more so became the tempest or it looked that way, add spinning attacks and teleports that leave a trail along with a storm aura that grows stronger as the ele fights. Each sword attunement gains a different effect for sword, which combined with the spinning and tele/leap attacks makes the ele itself look like a tempest.

Fire/Lightning/Earth(Sand)/Water/Arcane trails of the sword leaving aoe field behind as the ele swings the sword, whirlwind style attacks that build a storm around the ele as they fight. Switching attunements doesn’t stop the storm, it simply changes the element and the damage type. If the ele could be the heart of the tempest I’d be happy, calling a storm with a warhorn feels like a stupid mechanic. I’d rather see storms as a form of aura that the ele can use with utility spells that enhance it based on the level of the storm, maybe it has three phases and you build the storm by rotating attunments and fighting enemies. At level one of storm a utility might cause less duration and depend on the element. Fire destroys projectiles, sand reduces incoming damage, lighting lashes back with forks of lightning, water heals for each projectile absorbed, arcane reflects.

The idea is to make melee combat feed the storm, each attunment having a different whirlwind style spell that will help build it. Then the ele uses utilities and other sword skills to utilize the storm, which depend on the strength and attunment.

Well that is a rough sketch of my vision of a tempest sword ele.

Did you join a zerker only LFG? Are you a power necro or a condi necro? A lot of this stuff matters. Also Ralanost, just because you don’t want the dungeon to take longer than it needs to doesn’t mean you’re an elitist.

Except the amount of time the average zerker PuG shaves off is so minimal compared to a zerker PuG with one necro that you probably make up the difference waiting for someone to replace the necro. Real speed run groups might shave mins off, but PuG zerkers often don’t gain more than seconds.

It is rude and more. A good rule of thumb for determining if something is immoral is to ask what would happen if everyone did it. If everyone decided to swap without notice on the last boss then the outcome would be no net gain for the group, in fact a loss.

Inform your group or don’t do it.

On a side note it is funny when someone swaps without warning and we kill the boss before they can load in.

Game is fine in small to medium size groups of players usually. The problem is for a game that focuses on large scale open world content the engine is simply not up to the task of supplying a reasonable frame rate, even on the most powerful machines. Large zergs can tank the framerate well below 20 fps on the best gaming machines.

I think I’d rather see dagger. Then grant the ability to wield it in offhand with a 2-hand weapon. Not quite “titan’s grip” but still cool. Have it add some skills that deal with using it as a parrying dagger that counters with conditions, punishing opponents with quick counter attacks that weaken and bleed them to death. Could be interesting for hybrid builds.

Also have the mainhand deal slower speed but heavy blows kind of like necromancer/reaper and have the offhand work as part of the heavy combos, heavy blow quick condition slash.

Fix your camera settings to not stare at the floor with your camera an inch behind your character at the lowest possible height! An increased FoV, character height scaling, and a vertical notch up go a long way for something as mundane as wings to not take away from your field of vision for dungeon bosses at all!

Here, have some recommended settings. Maybe you’ll be less issued by a few backpieces then.

Try doing that in the halls of CM, still can’t see anything because there is a ceiling. Any dungeon where the camera gets forced into close quarters and there will be a problem. Also the wings don’t go away when players models are turned to low, back items always load up. I’ll be running no wing dungeon groups for awhile.

HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: hazenvirus.8154

hazenvirus.8154

If you buy GW2 now, it comes with HoT.
If you already have the game, you are losing out if you just go with an upgrade.
If you get it as a separate account, you get 4 character slots + HoT.
If you get it as an upgrade, you get HoT, nothing else.

Just a week ago, GW2 was $40.

Everyone who just purchased GW2 for $40 will now have to buy it AGAIN for $50.
Anyone who’s just now showing up will have to pay the $50 for GW+HoT, that’s fine.

So veterans and intermediates alike got massively ripped off as they are having to pay the equivalent of $90 to get the full package.

This is punishing early adopters and recent buyers of the game, a friend of mine has been trying to get money set aside for weeks to buy GW2 and he finally gets it, and then this happens… If he had known, he would have just waited a few weeks and paid the extra $10 for all of the content.

The base game is a bonus. Would you still be this upset had it not been included and the expansion was still $50 nonetheless like the had planned for it to be?

The only reason to be upset (rather than simply not buy the game) is that new players get far more for the same price. So if it wasn’t included, then no, many people wouldn’t be upset.

The thing is, Heart of Thorns standard is the new base game. You can’t just buy vanilla now.

Two things would have made this all moot:
- If an account is being upgraded, it gets something extra (e.g. character slots).
- The base game can be played with zero purchase of any kind. This would mean that the bundling into the HoT standard means nothing and no one is upset (except people that bought vanilla recently, but that’s a slightly different issue).

So let’s say you have a PS4/Xbox game that’s been out for awhile. You paid $60 for it originally. They later release a GOTY edition which has the base game and all of the expansion for $60. Would you be upset? Would you think that you got ripped off?

Adding promotions for new accounts is nothing new. This situation appears just like the arguments people had awhile back regarding the different editions of this game that became standard and how “veteran” players deserved those items that were included with the newer editions and not the ones that they bought at release.

The question going through the minds of a lot of people is if the base game was factored in as part of the cost. Anet says that it wasn’t, but all we have is their word. No proof one way or the other. It simply bothers people even if they can’t prove it.
