Actually, there are a couple ruined buildings just south of Fort Kinar on the western side of the scar. A conversation between the ghosts mentions Prince Ranik as though he were still living (just as they think they still live).

This is also mentioned at the bottom of this wiki page

Nothing seems to remain of the fort itself.

New to pvp here. So far I have learned that I will be staying (maybe) just long enough to get the items I want and never joining pvp again. It’s not terrible, but it isn’t good either.

The match making is truly the worst part of the game. The game is won or lost simply by pressing “B” and seeing the team comps. If this isn’t fixed, perhaps we can just get a surrender option so all the players can move on to the next randomly selected “match-up”.

The rewards are, well, underwhelming. The worst part is that the pvp currency is limited and thus encourages players to stop playing pvp until a season reset occurs. Repeat cycle until you get bored, forget the game mode even exists or you achieve what you came for and have no need to pvp again. That’s almost as bad a design as EVE Online’s training system which discourages activity or even logging in since you don’t need to in order to “play”.

Those two issues, rewards and match making are the main killers of this game mode. Until those get fixed, re-balancing sigils and such will have no effect other than to provide a very brief distraction from the fact that it’s just another broken game mode in GW2 (see WvW and dungeons for more info on broken game modes).

[Suggestion]Fix to Mastery System

I’m actually okay with how the Maguuma masteries are set up. I’m not okay with how the Tyria masteries are set up. Actually it looks like no thought at all was put into how the masteries were done in Tyria. Some of them are ridiculous grinds. Collect whole weapons sets for 1 point? Really? The achievement choices are completely random. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the Tyria mastery grind makes the Maguuma grind look easy.

I understand how leveling works, but I think Anet needs some kind of intervention here. They have a serious problem with not being able to tell the difference between challenge and a soul-sucking hate-fest against its’ players. Don’t even get me started on their events. I can’t imagine what their Christmas office party would be like. Probably have to belly crawl across a parking lot covered in broken glass to get their free half of a beer.

Didn't see a suggestion/wish sub-forum so...

I think a good item to add for back piece skins would be existing items like the shields. It would just be the skin for the back piece. I believe most everything to do this is already in the game and it wouldn’t require new art.

Just a little something to keep customizing our characters.

If you really want to go crazy, perhaps a mini creature hanging on to your back/shoulder like a wizard’s familiar? =) That’s a lot of work though.

Mastery System = Fail

I’m stuck in the masteries system and so until I can figure a way to get it moving again, I can’t level (not that leveling does anything). It’s a bit of a pain, but not earth shattering.

The thing I don’t like is how they have used the Tyria masteries to either force you into doing content that you’ve opted not to complete or the system was just duct taped to parts of existing game play. It feels clunky and not thought out.

Perhaps it would be less of a problem if it wasn’t so much grinding. Whole weapon collections for one mastery point? I think not.

There are lots of things wrong about these maps that goes beyond gliding. You also have to grind various masteries found in HoT to get some of the other features to work. This, like the gliding, wasn’t implemented even though it was designed into it.

The BL map would be a good PvE map, but it’s a poor choice for WvW. The population levels were already in trouble before these were introduced and players had pointed out that the larger maps would make things even more empty than they already were. Making the maps more difficult to transit (near impossible) for even modest size groups let alone small groups just compounded the problems even further.

The maps not only didn’t take into account the root problems of server population differences and night capping (to name but a couple of issues), the actually moved in a more destructive direction, making the situation even worse.

The new BL would be a good PvE map, but not a good WvW. It’s a good looking map with a fair amount of interesting areas.

I would also like to see masteries being able to be earned in WvW much like hero points are done.

I’ve played a lot of WvW in the past and still jump in fairly regularly, so I would really love to see it fixed. I don’t hold out much hope for this any time soon. I just looked up WvW in the official wiki and most of the information hasn’t been updated since 2012-2014.

Well, it looks like I’m just done making XP at this point. I guess it really doesn’t matter. Yes i used the title hero point instead of mastery point. I’m unable to make mastery points. I was doing fine and then it stopped. Since it stopped, so did my regular XP since nothing clears the XP bar when enough points are earned. It just stays at full points.

Look, other people are also having this issue. I posted it here because nobody else has. However, it isn’t an uncommon problem from the discussions I’ve had with other people in game.

I’m just posting what I found to be a problem. I don’t even care if it gets fixed for me, but if something is wrong then it needs to be looked at. That’s all.

Now I’m not even gaining XP since there’s no way to progress. Mastery mpoints won’t move and no awards are given. Because of that I can’t get my XP to accumulate anymore since I can’t utilize it. I can gain no hero points (mastery points) and no XP now. My progression is completely stopped.
I can still gain WvW levels though, but those don’t impact any of this.

I saw a queue once, two years ago. Only once though. Back then I leveled all my characters to 80 in WVW. In fact, I never finished the map completion or story on any character. I just did WvW. WvW was in bad shape back then. It’s a dead zone these days.

“all the guilds come in” made me laugh tbh. The highest number of players I’ve seen of late (friend and foe included) was 9 in anything other than EotM. Even there it’s poorly balanced and sporadic.

Your top 5 priorities for WvW-Overhaul

in WvW

Posted by: ifelldown.5426

ifelldown.5426

Just some ideas that aren’t easily done, but here you go.

Merge servers into a total of 6 teams (or something like that). It might work something like the mega-server concept. If you really wanted to get fancy, shuffle the member servers of each team each week. That would keep from having everybody trying to transfer to the top 2 servers, leaving the rest to fail.

Rotate the maps used. Going along with bringing back the original maps, Include new BL maps like the EotM map and EB. Perhaps the possibility of fighting in different climates for scenery and environment would keep it a little fresher.

Keep the principle of the alternate battle maps. EB is a good thing as is EotM. Again, perhaps shuffling these occasionally would be a good idea.

Perhaps different environments would face different challenges. Some maps have a variety of cold issues (spells, sandstorms, fire, etc.). Perhaps the new environment is a buff to spells and skills attuned to it?

Rewards that are improved for certain things in the maps are good. Things that make WvW a good place to get “X” may be a motivator for some players. Perhaps these could vary too?

These things are all very tough to do. I have no illusion that these are somehow “quick fixes”. They are just ideas.

[DISCUSSION] why do player complain nightcap?

in WvW

Posted by: ifelldown.5426

ifelldown.5426

Nightcapping is one of the issues that broke most of the server populations from playing. Since most servers didn’t have a full 24 hour coverage population, it meant that no matter how much effort went into competing, you could never win. Since there was no hope of winning then there was no motivation to play.

There was a lot of action in WvW back in the day and the rewards were pretty good comparatively. It felt futile to play though.

In the first year of the game my server fought all the way from the bottom tier to the fifth place team. Then two things happened. No 24 hour coverage meant that was as much as could be done and caused a loss of interest in the game style. The second thing that happened was betrayal by server jumping. It had been happening all along on all the servers like a plague, but the final straw was a mid-week transfer to an opposition server. That was the final knife in the back.

From that point the numbers started dropping rapidly. With few and fewer people playing, more WvW guilds left for the top 4 servers and gutted what was left in the bulk of the other servers. Those that didn’t transfer simply stopped logging into WvW for the most part.

That brings us to where we are today. I have 4-manned SM. I’ve been in zergs that got all the way up to six players, self included. I’ve been in borderland maps where I was the only player. Once I thought I was the only player but ran into an up-leveled enemy who turned out to be the only other player. We both decided that farming the cap zones we could get at was better than fighting and went our separate ways. the overflow (lol) map is the most popular map right now.

Yes, nightcapping is important and needs to be addressed. If it isn’t then the best possible outcome will be a rinse and repeat of the the original problems that killed it in the first place.

Since this has also turned a bit into a discussion on "play your way, I’ll put in a comment.
In GW2, play your way comes out to be the same as getting on a train and being told you can go anywhere. It’s true in both cases as long as anywhere is on these railroad tracks.

Why is necro healing so underrated?

in Necromancer

Posted by: ifelldown.5426

ifelldown.5426

Personally I’ve been having a blast with my hybrid build. It doesn’t take a huge investment to get good results out of Healing Power for a necro. The necro shows some good utility depending on how you set up.

Depending on your trait set up, every life siphon also heals the players around you. When you pull downed allies to you with shroud 4, you also group heal while still doing damage. Wells heal the group as do marks.

Healing power directly affects you’re heal skills but don’t forget that might also affects Condition Damage along with direct damage.

So my hybrid runs only 300-500 healing power (depending on weapons used) with good results but I’m still looking for my optimum amount. I run runes of strength, Rampage armor (to remove the need for precision sigils), a sigil for increased condi duration, torment and/or might on crit sigils, and of course sigils of force. D/F, D/S or Staff.

Still tweaking this all in and juggling trinkets and such. I’ve been enjoying the fact that I get decent melee, good group support, good condi up-time and and decent survival skills. I’m looking forward to seeing how this comes out.

Necros and healing power

in Necromancer

Posted by: ifelldown.5426

Just a general question and observation:

I found a couple YouTube videos that look at healing power and necromancer Life Siphon skills and it looks like even a small investment into Healing Power can yield some good results. Has anyone else looked at this after the recent changes and if so, what were your thoughts?

Looking at what little info is out there and my own impression of my results, it seems having 150-300 Healing Power gives a really nice boost to Life Siphon skills and thus survival. Improvements seem to drop off after that.

This guy put together an interesting chart about half way through the short video. It may not be super accurate and things have changed since this was made, but might give enough of an idea on the topic.

An interesting comparison chart even if it is older.

I’m really trying to avoid the oh-so-popular all Berserker build. Also, I realize that there’s a reason Berserker builds are popular.

Suddenly Rangers are considered strong?

in Ranger

Posted by: ifelldown.5426

ifelldown.5426

Well, I play a ranger and love it, but it certainly isn’t OP. In fact, a ranger doesn’t have quite enough of anything to be really good at much. It can, however, be good enough depending on the situation. Ranger can be a pretty decent support character, although I would venture guardian is better.

Pets are pretty awful unless you focus your build around them. They can be handy though with their special abilities. Sadly just having your target move can be enough to negate many of those abilities. Pets are unimpressive.

Entangle is probably the greatest thing a ranger has in my opinion and based on how I use it. Other traps can be handy, but lack punch to the point that it can make little difference if you hit one or not, depending on condition damage type.

Torch is awesome, the those war-horn birds are so useful. That is a preference more than anything.

So, other than not having quite enough armor, not enough speed without using signets, not quite enough dps (depending on glass cannon or not), a pet system that can be a liability as much as a help and a boat load of useless skills and traits, it’s pretty fun.

It isn’t powerful, but it think it could quite easily be powerful with a few tweaks. As for thieves, they are very powerful, but like any class they have to be used well. When they are, it’s just stupid. I’ve never played mesmer but the same can be said for them too, based on what I’ve seen.

Posted by: ifelldown.5426

ifelldown.5426

Well, one must ask. It’s awefully lazy on Anet’s part since they refuse to provide any tools for guilds to use.

All this does is provide a convenient means of working with things that would otherwise require alt-tabbing all the time. It doesn’t do anything to affect how the game works, so it does pass their test in that respect. It also has nothing to do with the game’s coding at all, so it passes there too. Frankly, computer security shoud be a full time concern anyway, so again this makes no difference.

However, this product is being touted as GW2 compatable and distributed via Massively, Teamspeak, Engin, IM, Skype, Twitter, Facebook, Gtalk, Raptor, Steam, Yahoo, XFire and more. This isn’t something that’s just some little app you just happened grab. They should look at it since their product is being used to market and distribute it.

Third party guild hosting site, Enjin, is offering a supported product called “Overwolf”. It passes the third party test listed in your sticky about unobtrusive software, since it provides no game advantages and doesn’t utilize any GW2 programming to function. It simply allows use of browsers, guild sites and chat functionsscreen shot and video captures without having to leave the game screen via a floating display overlay, for lack of a better term.

Is this a product that would be a bannable offense? Enjin is the host of the bulk of your guild sites. It would be worth the 30 seconds of your time to look at it, since it will probably be widely used soon. Check it out at enjin.com or overwolf.com. Thank you and I await your reply.

I think the OP is leaning towards the topic that has been brought up many times and continues to be true. GW2 does a very por job of helping people get together. This is true regardless of being in a guild or not.

You shouldn’t be forced into joining guilds, but guilds should have the tools to make joining one worth it. As it is, you’re still pretty solo in guilds too. It’s like being in a party. You need a party for dungeon runs, but not for anything else. The party provides no benefit.

More and more guilds are requiring 100% representation from members. This really doesn’t bother me. This does create a proble if you join more than one guild, a feature of GW2.

I think a simple sollution would be to be able to represent more than just one guild. A name would look like this (random letters for tags)

character name [PloP][FIZZ][Z0oM]

This would help guilds with their rep stuff, ease character requirements for members of such guilds, and allow people to utilize the mechanic provided by Anet.

Maybe this works, maybe it doesn’t. Just puttin the idea out there. It seems simple.

Commander Dai is a very good commander, and frankly, we have/had quite a few good ones. We also have/had some very good fighters too. Still do. at some point though you just cut your losses.

The last few weeks have been devistating for BP for many reasons. It didn’t start all bitter because I was here with them fighting up from tier 8 and we had a lot of fun. With all the hours I spent in there and based on what I saw, no one or two guilds held the server together. We just loved to fight.

However, imbalanced matchups take their toll. I t was mostly being matched up with servers that had closer to 24 hour coverage than anything skill based. We could definately bring the fight, as older posts will show. When the fight loses any sense of meaning, then things start to break down.

Our night crew fought well, but we don’t have strong coverage there due to numbers. I fought with them at times and could never fault their determination. They just had no resources.

Krew leaving was a big deal since it had been such a surprise and at such a bad time. Then the other transfers lead to a feeling of betrayal more due to the timing than anything else, making a tough struggle even worse.

Still, we would fight, but as the balance shifted and the ability to maintain maps declined then the vicious cycle of morale drop/losses/transfers/repeat accelerates to where we are now. Blaming this or that guild or server directly is wrong, since the the reasons are more complex than that. As for internal drama, put any group of people together and you have drama. I wouldn’t say it was particularly bad though. BP was pretty fun. No, this is a series of badly timed events, bad mechanics, and not-so-good match-ups more than anything else.

I did drop in to fight for garri last night. The fighters of BP were still determined, but too few. Plus, no help was coming and we all knew that.

The last few weeks were terrible and next week is looking pretty bad. It wll be a while until BP ever recovers from all this. It’s a shame since we were doing so well.

Blowouts suck, no matter which side you’re on. There’s no reason to log into one. Better off letting the week go and see what happens next. the only problem for BP is that it’s been this way for weeks now and it’s lead to some pretty terrible results. I know I used to be in WvW 7 days a week for 5-14 hours a day. I no longer log into WvW for anything other than curiosity about the score and map (I usually end up in LA overflow). All the tiers are messed up. I think the best idea I heard all day was going from 8 tiers to 4 with a constant rotation. More people and better coverage. however, good luck logging in to fight the invisable army.

I really don’t know what would fix this mess, but it needs fixing quick. SPvP is already a train wreck. I would hate to see WvWvW die out too. It seems to be heading that way though. Sad. I spent a lot of time playing WvW too, but not any more.

Anet take note:
When people are creating threadsd filled with begging other people to fight them, something is wrong with your PvP mechanics.

Maguuma doesn’t have a significantly larger population than DR or BP. I know people won’t agree with me on this, but it’s true. I was at reset. DR and BP both had huge zergs over the weekend. However, Maguuma does have a more consistent population, and an almost unbreakable morale. The same people who play on reset are the same people who play the rest of the week. Most other servers drop significantly on Sunday night or Monday morning, but Maguuma does not. Even when we are losing, we have fun.

Oh, BP still had fun, it just gets old ya know? There’s no point in taking targets and certianly no point in upgrading when they are as good as lost anyway. I can’t tell you how often I’ve caught discussions that went like “lets upgrade Hills”, “why?” “to defend it!” What for? we’re just going to lose it in a few. probably before the upgrades even get done". THAT means it isn’t fun anymore. THAT is where the population drops.

I think the word “population” is being used in two different ways as well. Some are referring to the servers as a whole and some are referring to the WvW population. I would think this would lead to some confusion and miscommunication. I know that in the past I have tried defending our BL and when we grouped up we found that there were only 5 of us holding the map. I’ve been on there with 3 fighters before too. Tell me that wouldn’t be disheartening to find over and over.

The other side of that coin would be that even with this, I’ve seen us fight well. I’ve seen us take on larger numbers and win. However, it sucks when it’s all for nothing.

As a member of BP, the only mention I have heard of any form of truce, alliance, whatever, has been here in the forums. We have a long and glorious history of just attacking everything that’s marked in red, suicidally or not.

It could be true, but I have not seen anything like it. Shame on us if we chose this path. I know I could not and would not take part in this practice. Play as intended or not at all.
