Hi,
I yell to friends “Get out of that circle!” – they: “What circle? kitten, I don’t see them AGAIN!”. Happens in Fracs/Raids/WvW/PvP, everywhere… Since I play with one of them in one room, I can confirm that (at least she) can’t see any circle/groundtarget, even if I can see it. And ofc they get the negative effects.
Just a misclicked option or a bug?

Are you really telling me that the healbot elementalist is not designed to be my heal bot??
Nope, it’s designed to be the groups heal bot, since he’s most effective, if he can spread his stuff on as many members as possible – best thing, besides focus, to knock a mancer out (in SoloQ) is to stall him somewhere with his mate away from the 3 others. An ele being your personal healbot is wasted, since his deeps sucks and it’s more like, if you fight a 2v2, like 1,5 vs 2. An engi would be, if you want a personal healer, suit that role much better, but theorycrafting, not the topic…
The problem stays the same: It’s much harder atm to uphold a warri. Anet messed this up and well atm the warris have to suffer. Each time some class has to be at the bottom and yeah, people would complain ’bout “carrying” them.
Plus: Yeah, a mediocre playing nec/rev/engi/guard so on is much easier to uphold and support than a mediocre playing warri (and thief).
“Game X is so dead…”, “Class X is so OP…”, “OMG, it’s raining again…”
ZZzzzZZZZzzzZZzzzz
What I don’t like about the major intention of your post: YOU, YOU, YOU. No, it’s not me, that has to have to get his shi* straight, primarily YOU have to. My attitude: I don’t like to be carried and don’t like to carry someone. That doesn’t mean that I’m against teamwork (I love a great working team), but I’m against helping out more than I have to usually. And then it doesn’t matter to me, if you join with your daily class, warri or OP nec. If you need help all the time in situations, others can usually handle well alone (some time) – then you are doing something wrong.
Now…
1)I play what I like because a game is made for enjoyment.
You beg others to help you out – but on the other hand “You do what you like…”? Well, I play what’s best for the team. And if my class doesn’t fit well or if I’m going to make it really hard for my team if I stay on that class – then I switch to something more useful. That doesn’t mean: “Never play warri.”.
2) […] I worked my butt off to get here. Studied builds, learned animations, working on my bursting craft. I earned it just as much as you did, so no I will not reroll.
So did I. Played warri before and something else as well. Now Anet decided to nerf warri (too much), then I move on and don’t try to force it (“But I played warri all the time!!!”) and accept things I can’t change atm instead of crying about it.
3) […] ADAPT in game. Not every match is 5 meta battle builds vs 5 meta battle builds.
Right, if you can’t play the meta (or your build), it’s useless. But: Again the “YOU”. You also have to adapt, that there are a lot of situations, where warri (ele, mes, guard, so on) is a bad choice. Then, again, I don’t try to force it, but play something that is more useful (in that situation). That warris kinda often face enemy pairs, that suck for him, well, thank Anet, but don’t let your mates suffer ’cause of that.
4) How to play with a warrior on your team?
If I get you right, whole point of that point: HELP ME. So? I do, but not more than I’d help others on my team. Primarily YOU have to help yourself, THEN depend on others. Your (support) mates are not your personal wingman, they are out there to help the whole team and not to always look out for someone special.
5) Warrior 1v1s.
When it comes to 1v1: (IMHO) If you can’t win or at least stall them on your own – don’t do them. If you (scroll up) need someone else, your team has to make up for that and they have to fight outnumbered.
5.5) This is huge, enemy role distraction. I think a lot of teammates do not understand what is happening, so let me explain. Say both teams have a support ele. I go far, to take the 1v1 vs the support ele, …
Fits for every other class.
6) Of course I am going to leave some fights. Warrior mobility is very high.
You are right. But: That’s not to unique to warris and other classes come with (better) survibility. So that makes them all in all better suited for that. If it’s just about “I block!” – every one can do that.
8) Team fights. If you see me change target and 100 blades is active, you should probably get on that target. I am pure dps, why would you not change to the target so we can kill it?
Like you wrote yourself: Because it’s not always a good choice. You, as you stated yourself, should be able to adapt. And that means too switching targets, even if you are sooooooo close to the kill.
And don’t take it all personal. Got some anger ’bout egoistic playstyle of the majority of the nowadays rotten community in it as well as thinkin of what I wrote (like you did in favor of warris) as general hints.
Warrior is the best class in the game at damage. My overall damage numbers and averages have increased substantially in the last 2-3 weeks.
Maybe you are right, we’ll never find out, ‘cause there are no real logs or tools concerning that. But: DPS isn’t everything and dead dps and deeps that needs to get carried…
(edited by illo.5106)
When you click Join Ranked I would assume you’re already playing something you’re good at, right?
Won’t say that for all… but yeah, I know what you mean and how it should be.
I have hardly experienced AFK’s or people giving up after the first wipe. If you have – that sucks
Then you were on the better side of that messed up MMR.^^ I had a bad start and got in the “loss streak with losers” and then you can feel what PAIN means.
And why you often better switch your fav class – not to counter anything, but to carry people that are really bad.
And the “kitten I’m so pro, I just suck ’cause of you…” like(d) to go afk in those matches.
And ofc matches will be easier/more challenging for you if you have a really bad setup by MM – and your opponent not. Assuming that you can expect on a higher level usually experienced players that know what to do.
(edited by illo.5106)
If you lock professions the matchmaking can do a better job of putting together a “better” team with profession variation.
Err no, because that would
- imply, that there is something like a perfect setup, what Anet never would say out loud, plus,
- how can the system measure, who’s good at what prof (don’t start with rank, MMR, other kitten that doesn’t work)? E.g. 2 Necs knowing their class can be cancer, while 5 just joining for daily usually are easyfarm.
And locking profs just would lead to:
- more easymode matches and
- more afk after a miserable start.
Plus: If you “fear” a counter, then prepare for (countering) it.
(edited by illo.5106)
Something to do while waiting in que would be wonderful.
Well, you can play AH.
Because WvW is a dying game mode, it’s why sPvP is seeing a bit more participation (albeit low)…mainly because people are just looking for something to do ingame that’s PvP related.
Enjoyed it before, not anymore. Same with many I knew… So no wonder the dune walking simulator dies.
They could always make your rank based on your personal play and not whether or not your team won the match. That way no one would be carried, and no one would be sunk by a crap team.
Well: How can you validate how good is someone in a team?
His rank? Useless. Top score/points in a match? Useless. Least deaths/most kills? Useless.
So… all what counts is, HOW good you are as a team. And since you don’t queue for 1v1 (where your personal play decides lose/win), that’s all what matters.
The bad thing is, that ’cause of the reward system a lot of never-played-ranked-pvp join. People that have no basic understanding of the maps, common tactics, common builds, so on. And that leads to really, really bad teams.
Just as an example I had like 3 matches ago: People were unable to cap and hold their points (they played the PvP like CS:GO…) and when you told them, that they kitten should just stay in the circle and not chase with 4 one thief, because this maybe makes winning easier, you get mocked as an idiot, because you went to def the lord, that was rushed, and fight off 2, 3 others for the rest of the game: “Haha, great tactic, now we lost! Noob!”. And this was one of the better matches…
P.S.: That’s what you get in Sapphire btw.
(edited by illo.5106)
And all the sudden you get 10 total people q’ed at peak times… (exaggerated, in case you don’t catch the sarcasm
)
At least those people actually want to play pvp.
What I got today as team mates in SoloQ was 60+ % of the time … not even below average.
Since I started playing PvP (in GW2)again, I really came back to raging at my monitor. Not because of losing, but because HOW you are losing.
Just look at all the people complaining that their team mates in RUBY don’t know the basics.
I really disagree that work and effort are grind.
The “work and effort” as described as above is grind. If I complain on the forum, that I played sooo long and I’m still at the bottom… well, that summarized it pretty well:
Its not about the hours you put in, its about how you use them. If you spend that many hours on pvp without getting good enough, then you probably spend them doing the same mistakes over and over and over and over again. Should that be rewarded? I dont think so.
And what else is this “I put so many hours into that, I want a reward too?” and wanting a small improvement for the time invested? That’s grinding your way up…
Skill may be partly “earned” through gameplay. However, it also has to do with age ( hand to eye coordination, reaction time , ) internet connection quality, computer quality, geographic location ( lag ) and a host of other factors.
Others have those issues as well – still they make it to diamond…
Other non individual factors that come into the equation include playing on a organized teams and playing whatever build is currently in favor.
No one stops you from doing so as well, if you think that’ll make things easier.
Work and effort deserve to be rewarded too. If they are not rewarded, it is likely that the “skilled” players will be the only ones left.
“Work and effort” is grind. And no, grinding should not be rewarded.
In other words: Every football addict should have the chance to win once in a lifetime the Super Bowl, because they put so much effort in this. They maybe don’t have anything Peyton Manning has/had, but who cares? It’s the work that should be rewarded, not some “team cheat” or “random skill” based on age, fitness, training, so on.
Its not the match making. Its the balance. If you restrict at most 1 necro and 1 ele per game, you will see a lot more enjoyable matches. The fact that a class stacking of 2 or 3 necros can win tell you how oped they are.
Please stop with the “XY is OP, kitten…” stuff – it’s so annyoing and pointless. No class is op!
I lost matches with 3 necs/eles in team and won matches against 3eles/necs in their team – so?
If you are fed up with the current MM – get a team! 70 % of my SoloQs suck, 70 % of my team matches are fun and even the other 30 % don’t really suck. Because, surprise surprise, SoloQ is always a lottery and you are always in danger of getting your worst nightmare as mate – or even twice.
And the MM here is as kittenty as in every other online game, because the system can’t judge, how good you are as a team player. Fine for you, if you think, you are / should be leaderboard #3 and you got 4 noobs in your team – you still lose against those other 3, 4 morons playing as a team! That’s no exploit btw…
And there are usually just two kinds of players, who suck at being good team mates – total noobs and total (self-claimed) pro’s.
(edited by illo.5106)
A minority (that has fun/wins) can’t play 24/7 against the majority (that suffers/loses). And I hardly see matches being really dominated by one side (the wannabe-elitist elite having fun).
If you can’t win, it’s because matches are like custom before: luck decides if you win 500/300 and if you are on that lucky side. If you look at how some (and it only needs 1 – 2/team) really fail on understanding the maps (how they work, paths, so on), it’s no surprise. Oh and luck is: Don’t get those persons in your team…
(edited by illo.5106)
All your advice is useless, because it comes down to one point: You can put as much effort into this as you like, it only takes 1 – 2 in your party that don’t give a **** kitten – and wasted.
And people that usually give a **** usually do that (what you suggested) on their own. And then you don’t need (and often don’t) complain about match making.
The only thing you can hope for: The other team has one more idiot/person who doesn’t care than yours.
(edited by illo.5106)
Obviously you are new to this game and obviously you came from a classic MMO.
Why? Thought the same 2 years ago coming from a traditional one and maybe missed what you mentioned and 2 months later I was happy to not have this shiny stuff in GW2.
Since this raid is far away from being challenging, you won’t need asc gear, so please no “OMG, gear grind!!!”.
Finding people that don’t suck will matter more, like it has always been…
This is really the worst part of LS ever – I can’t imagine how much more f***ed up it could get – and not because it’s hard (believe me, I love hard content, love doing it and want this game to be more challenging), no, because of those f***ing annoying cutscenes.
And I really believe them (the devs, ANet) if they write stuff like
We’ve moved away from those, because the in-game scenes are a lot more satisfying, but there’s a trade off.
but they aren’t. Not if you have to watch them a thousand f***ing times and just can’t skip. The cutscenes in the stealth LS story part last as long as it takes me to get from the start to Vorpp – really, no s***. I had enough time to clock how long I did take from part to part (cs to cs) and how long the cs was playing…
Oh and btw.: I wrote this post during 1 run (while tabbing out of cs).
P.S.: Reminded me, while I never wanted to do LS again (did it for my g/f, who gave up on this achievement) and why it annoyed me so much (again) to go here and cry.
P.P.P.: Wouldn’t be that worse, if I didn’t bug twice into the ground after defeating Vorpp (if you knock him down close to a container) and couldn’t finish the story this way – and had to watch the CS. All. Over. Again!
(edited by illo.5106)
Got a new PC for 8.000 $ – but GW2 still is slow as hell with my 56.6k dial up connection…
UNBELIEVABLE!
but it will never be limited to that since it would only benefit large guilds.
Why that? A 10+ dungeon doesn’t benefit large guilds, since that isn’t that much for a PvE active guild. And, like in other games, even those with 10 – 12 player raids, you still could ally with another guild…
Simply learn to read more than the headline.
He doesn’t get a nice stomp, he just stomps and activates god-mode. I don’t mind using mist or elixir s at all, but, as known, for getting a great advantage (god-mode) you get a great disadvantage in return (no actions possible). Same with port.
Of course this is situation dependent and in 1v1 this is usually no big deal, but 2v2+, due to the possibility to rally a lot of players with one stomp …
Another player could still remove the blind on the downed player or interrupt the thief.
(edited by illo.5106)
Nope, because, as I wrote, you can still remove condis/boons and have the possibility to interrupt.
You can still kill a stealthed player in downstate like you could still interrupt a stealthed player who finishes.
(edited by illo.5106)
Hi,
please remove the ability to perform actions while finishing other players AND finish them – or in other words: no possibility to port, use elixir or mist form AND finish the player in downstate. This simply sucks kitten and gives those classes an unfair advantage.
I don’t mind that you can use those actions while finishing, but then it should cancel the finishing move.
P. S.: I know that you can use e.g. stability with other classes while finishing, but you could still remove it / apply conditions to interrupt the finishing move, what isn’t possible in those cases.
(edited by illo.5106)
It does? Then why are the zergs full?
Location: Germany
Time and date of incident (plus time zone): 15 AM (MET)
Game World: Riverside
Brief description of what you’re seeing: full run AC, lag spikes 4+ seconds every 40 – 50 seconds, skill lags, 5 disconnects of 3 party members (everytime all 3 at the same time) during the runs, layer IP 206.127.159.224:0 during the worst run
Your location: Germany
Time and date of incident (plus time zone): (worst) 2014-25-09 ~ 19-20 MET
Game World: Riverside
Description: DCs, skill lags 2+ seconds, freezes especially at wurm + tequatl, but basically everywhere. Gave up playing WvW atm, too often too frustrating playing like that.
Experienced exactly the same too – twice!
I’m doing the triple wurm and the lag is insane. We switched from one server to this one to see if we’d have less lag, but no way. Extremely slow. This is happening to all the people in this map.
Several people of my party got during that event (Wurm + Tequatl) DCs at least twice, some even more.
A door in Crucible of Eternity did not open. They fixed that. And they fixed an issue that caused the launcher to crash.
Is your ability to do Teq more important than some players ability to play the game at all? Was ANet supposed to email them and go: Sorry, we can’t take the server down and fix your issue because Teq is about to spawn.
OMG, it’s not about “Bwah, don’t patch me game!”, it’s ab out better timing – like: “Let’s do this when the big ones are done (or between them).”.
Maybe you can explain (and this didn’t happend just ONCE, last week it was almost the same at tri-head, don’t know how many times before that) what’s such a big problem to delay the patch 20 minutes.
And idc if other games need 5 hours/days/weeks for that and some stupid flames ’cause of lack of other arguments about loot boxes and bla – this would have been a player/customer friendly decision, nothing more and nothing less.
Hmm, simple solution: Fight Teq another day.
And have the same problem another day. Cool loop!
(edited by illo.5106)
Hi,
it’s a great idea by Anet to combine patches with boss raids like the evolved worm/tequatl. This way you can’t taxi players in AND punish those who get DCs caused by the cool server lags we got since the big feature patch. It’s really cool, because now you can ruin the raid for every participant – those who are left and get fewer and fewer and those who can’t instantly reorganize on a new layer.
I hope you never come up with ideas like: “Hm, let’s do this when almost nobody cares about – like between those big raids…”
So, as you’ve probably noticed ANet, a very big part of the community is unhappy about some of the changes introduced by the feature pack, including:
Ah, another self-elected community manager… Well, I’m quite happy about the recent changes – not about everything, but all in all they did a pretty good job. Didn’t notice so far anyone in my guild or in mapchat complaining heavily…
- Stealth changes to HotW story mode, CoE story mode, Arah Path 2, toggling the paths to be impossible to complete
Errr, no. Nothing new and what they changed doesn’t bother experienced dungeon runners at all. There are other ways to fix/avoid it btw (no nomad-bla required).
There’s no way, a person could miss the newly introduced Arah pt2 bug.
As a passionate GW player and QA member… how could you miss the forum posts about this old bug?
Happened to me/us in frac 29/50 as described above – no progress, had to abandon. Every time we got this as 3rd frac, so 20 – 30 min wasted for nothing!
If you can’t fix it, then take it out of the rotation PLEASE! Atm it’s just ridiculous…
Hi,
new annoying bug in Ascalon/AC path 2, after Kholer, event “Room of Pits”: After the graveling champ spawns, he won’t move. You can attack him, do damage, but he still won’t move. If you pull him, he’s stuck at the pull position.
He only decides to finally move, if
1.) He gets more than 20 – 80 % damage (differed between several runs),
2.) if all party members jump down (and nobody is at the chains)
If you wipe, the champion and his adds won’t despawn, you have to kill him first, start the event again and kill him (same bug) again. If Detha dies during the event and the event won’t auto-cancel, she stays bugged ‘til the end, so she won’t set up the traps and you can start again.
Hi,
at first I liked the new trait acquistion system, since it encourages players to discover the whole world if they want to get them – and if not, they still can buy them. But after yesterday, I think it’s so annoying, I don’t wonder anymore that people are getting frustrated.
To start at the beginning: Some guildmates wanted help to acquire their last traits, so np, we’ll help you, since they had to do some champs/priests what can be annoying with trashy gear and a lack of experience with a new class.
So we looked up what they had to do, went there to do the event chain, but… Hey it’s bugged. Ok, no problem, switch the layer, sh** happens. Bugged too. Next layer: the same. Ok this can happen, just let’s focus on another trait and do that later – same sh**, bugged event blocked the event chain. Those were 2 events that are known in the wiki (!) to bug easily. We did another 2, and luckily those events weren’t bugged – since they didn’t had an event chain, just kill champ 123.
Then it got really worse, since we had to do the temples – we tried about 4 hours, then we gave up. Why? To find an contested temple except Baltha is atm nearly impossible in the afternoon+, since the megaserver got introduced. We jumped through 7 (!) layers (ip check) in 4 hours and didn’t find one (except Baltha, what we finally did out of desperation), not to speak of the “kill spawned priest xyz to def temple zyx”! This morning finally at least Grenth was contested and we tried to get there, arrived late and “had to” be that unsocial, that we forced the def event to fail (What I really hate when others do it!), because the priest went down to fast so our guildmates couldn’t even hit him and so they had another chance to do it.
Don’t get me wrong – I don’t want to be those traits easymode and I like the idea how they should be acquired, that high level traits are tricky to get and that people that don’t want it that way still can buy them. But at least people should have actually have a real chance to get them that doesn’t include a) waiting for hours just to SEE the event or b) simply impossible by having to do buggy event chains.
Btw.: We went farming T6 for 30 min after being horribly annoyed and they bought the traits with the gold they got for them – yeah, not really what they expected to be a cool way to get their traits…
(edited by illo.5106)
Always the same, they should only allow 1 Thread/week with the word legendary+precursor+price in it…
T6 Mats: ArenaNet has consistently removed all farming locations of T6 mats.
Not true, there are still a lot – you just have to know them, like before. Just farmed yesterday 26 armored scales in one hour while being busy on the telephone.
WvW: We are forced to do WvW for 100% Map Completion and 500 Badges of Honor.
WvW has nothing to do with PvP – even on lower servers it’s for most people just zerg. Even if you are on a losing server, it’s usually possible to discover your own third – since the “color” is random, you get a chance to do it over time.
The prices of all precursors is soaring out of control.
Can you name ONE MMO where there isn’t any inflation?
Gold: The only way to get a legendary is to have gold… and lots of it.
Nope, see the wiki.
Which is extremely unappealing to me. I want to play a GAME not a market!
Then PLAY the GAME – works fine without having a Legendary.
I have played an average of 2-3 hours a day for the last 2 months and earned about 150 gold. That is 20 months of playing for the cheapest version of a precursor (Kraitkin).
2G/day? That’s like one dungeon per day. Or 4 T6 drops. Or 25k Karma. So on. Hope you know where that’s going.
Come on ArenaNet have mercy on the poor players in the community!
A Legendary should be “the icing on the cake”, not something you can get just by showing presence or as some kind of welfare. Of course you have to put a lot of effort into it, if you really want it. If not, there are a lot of alternatives that equal them except the looks…
If you are pugging, war and ele are in 95% still most wanted when it comes to dps and fast boss kills – even if the only reason would be, that you hardly can fail with the popular dps builds for those classes.
Hi,
it would be a real advantage if you have to double check it (like char deletion/special item destruction/so on) if you kick someone from guild – I did accidentally do that like 10 or 20 times when you wanted to join a guild mate on his layer and the “kick from guild” option was right beneath the join option.
you only need 2 min to get all this stuff
Why would most people buy it if it takes 2 minutes? At 30 silver per 2 minutes, that’s 7.65 gph.
If you can’t discover the irony in this, you a) never tried to collect this on your own and b) don’t really know, what you are talking about.
Everything else: Tired of repeating myself to Ken Ham.
(edited by illo.5106)
Just my 2 cents from this morning – WvW & “just standing around”.
Those three happened during WvW (10 – 11.15 am GMT):
Lag 10.14 am
Lag 10.46 am
following Lag 10.46 am
Then I can always roll the dice if I get a DC or just a lag.
Those while in the login screen (kept GW2 open while doing some work):
12.13 am
12.19 am
This happens over and over again since the megaserver update.
I had never those problems and I do have them now only in GW2 – all other games I sometimes play (tested) or my trading/homeoffice software doesn’t get me close to those problems/pings.
I called my provider 3 times to check my connection (since it’s a business line and he has to guarantee a fixed quality) and blamed him first, and the guys at the service center assured me with hand to god that nothing is wrong and that they couldn’t find any error.
(edited by illo.5106)
I mean it is already bad enough that people here can’t understand basic math and econ 101, but you are even arrogant towards the people that do. John Smith’s lack of action towards your perceived problems supports my arguments.
Imaginery friend – see before.
To make it more clear (and less friendly): YOU sir don’t understand math, because you constantly ignore all the factors, that won’t contribute your cause, but have to be implied. That shows that you don’t understand it at all if you can be disproven with one argument/factor – but you just say: “Nah, doesn’t count.”
It’s like a Bill Nye vs. Ken Ham debate with you, where one always points to facts and the other one constantly denies them or gives a neverending speech, that has nothing to do with them, why they won’t count.
If you really want to get down on maths, I’m expecting your formula on this and we can go on discussing. But seriously, something below like this won’t gain my interest.
So again, are you saying that traders don’t soulbind anything for their own personal use? Because that means they cause lower demand than pve players, thus lowering inflation.
That’s what you said, but don’t mind not understanding the irony.
To make it simpler: soulbound stuff = worthless = goods and gold taken out of the market.
Making the food itself only removes 8 copper from the system which pales in comparison from the 4.5 silver trading fee.
Nope, because people usually don’t craft with what they have (that’s what I tried to demonstrate with my answer), they buy it at the TP. So the gold loss is much bigger, because you have a 15 % loss for every of those items (except karma).
Again: More gold taken out of the system than you thought.
You’re seriously arguing there has been no inflation and your comparing it to the existence of Santa?
I’m saying that you try to prove one thing you stated (and can’t prove properly) with something that obviously is true.
Until then you have to just sit on your investment and you never know what will happen until then. The demand for the item could decrease, A-net could increase the supply so their is always a risk.
To be honest: I knew the price would go up, ’cause two of my old TP mates told me they were going to push them with their guild.
Long term you turn that chaos gun into a 550g profit in what? half a year.
Less than 8 weeks and it was 24 x ~ 800G, cause I don’t sell to bidders.
Shorterm you can turn that 300g into a 5-20% profit daily. That is 15-60g a day for 6 months 450-1800g.
Sure, but you have to put much more work into it. That’s the point why I quitted it, because I wanted to play the game and not doing the work I already do at work.
If A-net made precursors craftable that chaos gun investment could have been a lost in money.
Anet will hardly do this, because Legendaries are already craftable (Ascended). The only risk you have with flipping pre’s is, that Anet simply would increase the drop – usually that’s the easiest solution to solve many TP issues, but as I said before: I think Anet is for some reason quite ok with the status quo, since it increases the demand for buying gold (gems).
(edited by illo.5106)
This is so wrong it makes me want to puke, I can’t believe how John Smith can stand reading this forum. Or that’s probably why he rarely shows up anymore.
The only thing that makes me want to puke are arguments like this – and accusing people of not doing their homework while bathing in ignorance.
Gold hardly disappears in account bound/soul bound stuff.
I try to retrace that the next time I build asc stuff and try to sell it. Of course it doesn’t disappear, you simply “convert” it – but it’s not in “the system” anymore. Or to use your kind of speech: it vanished into thin air, because no one except me can use my bound stuff, so it’s practically worthless to others.
Now let’s take a look a look at WvW food like lemongrass poultry. It costs 30 silver right now on the TP. Now let’s look at the cost of the ingredients
- Coconut: paid for by karma generated out of thin air
- Lemongrass: gathered out of thin air
- Slab of poultry meat: out of thin air from killing monsters
- Bowl of Herbed Poultry Stock: out of thin air except for 1 ingredient, jug of water that costs 8 copper
Food that vanishes into thin air btw after bought and consumed. And I forget, that you only need 2 min to get all this stuff, maybe that’s why people pay 30S for it.
The only person that said anything about my 3x figure thought I took the number directly from the gold and gem rate instead of the gold and dollar rate.
It doesn’t really matter what the exact number is, because no one is going to deny that inflation hasn’t happened.
“This must be true, because obviously this is true and only a fool would deny it…” – “Maybe I don’t have the exact number of presents delivered by Santa, but nobody can deny that christmas exists, so Santa does too.”
If you are going to keep arguing that contributes less to inflation than all the level 20 tp wizards who never farmed a single champ bag in their life , we are at an impasse that only John Smith can answer.
Arguing with John Smith and telling others to learn their maths doesn’t make an impression at all, really. It’s like these endless debates where people point towards their imaginery friend, when they run out of facts (“Because it’s gods will!” / “Reagan/Lincoln/Stalin would have said so too!”) …
Means: If he doesn’t say so, I don’t care if you refer to him a billion times.
The TP is not a gold sink is just player’s wealth leech.
The purpose of TP would be make gold value stable to give players a chance to earn gold to buy what they need…. the TP is failing at that
The TP isn’t a place where you should earn your gold – why should it be? It’s just a marketplace, to exchange goods. The “leechers” are those, who use it for making gold out of it and leech other players wealth this way.
It’s like in the real world: “Well this item is worth 25 $, but I sell it to you for 80 $”.
I don’t want to condemn that (I made my gold this way too.
), but I’d never say, that’s the way how it’s meant to be. Anet/GW2 just failed, like many other MMOs, to design the market in a way, where some couldn’t use it in a way to make some riches on the back of others. For Anet this is maybe actually a nice side effect, because some that conglomerate a lot of gold and can’t spend it useful for gems (ergo shop stuff) are better than a lot of players converting their gold into gems instead of buying gems.
Reason number 1:
You are FORCED to get what you need on the TP.
You can t realistically get what you need outside the tp.
No you are not. I got almost everything I wanted on my own, even the neverdropping pre’s – e. g. I hardly bought more than 90 % (except the pre in some cases) you need for a Legendary at the TP, because I had so much left in the bank. And I didn’t really farm it, I just got it by playing the game (my way). You can use the TP to achieve the stuff you want faster, but that doesn’t mean you are forced to.
Maybe you can’t get that if you play like 4 – 5 hours a week. But why should you? I don’t earn a Porsche with a 5 hour/week job either…

TP is high risk IF you invest in a long term market(jetpack, pheonix skins, etc) or one that people speculate will increase in demand after a update(dyes, gossamer(befoer people realize you needed silk instead)).
Still crying my eyes out ’bout those 24 chaos guns I bought at ~300G and that i sold for 1k G (-15 % TP fee).
A longterm investment can be as good as shortterm. The key victory is always, that you should know the market (means: estimate [future] demands). The only people I know who made losses and wanted to trade seriously where those, who just entered the market and thought, they make the big money with some flipping without analyzing their niche or who joined in, when the word already was out on the street (like: “OMG silk, buy silk!”).

In order to make 1000g+ profit just with Dusk, you need 10000g+ initial investment in the first place. If you consider the high initial investment, there are better ones out there, that make you faster profit.
Sure, but with greater risk potential, because many could join in. I loved trading with “GW pennystocks” like sigills, runes or cosmetic stuff, that are way cheaper – but I had to compete against more players joining the market, when I got the prices up.
TP with Pre’s is kinda safer compared to this – I made my biggest profits when I started flipping the “cheap” pre’s with some mates. The profit per item was lower in %, but higher in gold and almost on the same gold/day level. So I had to flip less items and to sacrifice less time for the same amount of gold.
And: a lot of TP guys and gold sellers have no problem with such a high initial investment.
I met e.g. a lot of players during my TP time, that sometimes didn’t even had an Level 80 char and played this game like a tycoon game.

This only works when there’s sufficient demand above 700-800g (if not, those trying to manipulate the price will lose more than they make).
There’ll be always demand, because it’s a pre and due to the often unfair progress of getting it. And you will always find someone willing to pay the actual price, so they keep the bidding price getting up and on the raised level. Maybe those who are buying out of fear that it can be even more expensive next week – or those, who simply don’t care if it’s 100 G more or less.
This particular example — whether it was one or several trying to flip Dusks — looks like more evidence that manipulating markets isn’t an easy way to make money.
Making up to 1000G+ only with this ONE niche (Dusk) is pretty easy in my eyes – just think, how much time and effort it costs to get this amount of gold the “common” way.
Sorry, but you are thinking that far too complex
. Agree with your mates on which price you want to sell, clear the market and a little bit above that (easier with pretty rare stuff like pre’s), open with an overpriced item, wait for others to undercut, then put your offers and try to raise the listing and the bid price this way.
You forget, that if you want to make money with TP you “Don’t buy at the peak, you buy when it’s weak.” – means: you buy with your mates dusk for 700 – 800 G / bid and start, when you got like 60 – 70+. The goal isn’t to sell them for 2k each, it is to raise the average price 20 – 40 %, so you can sell yours. Since the “flow” of pre’s is pretty steady and prices stay more or less on the “raised level”, because there will always be “strikebreakers” who’ll pay the price, it’s not that risky at all.
If you need a RL example for that: look at the food speculation. You easily can raise prices for stuff without big changes in demand and supply and make a pretty good cut.

No one has proven Santa Claus exists, but no one has disproven it either.
Simple proof: I was some months in a TP guild, where we did hardly anything else than buying and selling – and usually 4 – 5 players “shared” one niche (‘cause for one it’s harder to e. g. watch the market all the time). Since many go for listed price, it was an easy way to triple your money in a short time.
Legendaries are made through the MF, they don’t drop randomly.
But the pre’s not – they are completely random. And since I started playing, I have gotten mine and seen people getting them every possible way as mentioned in the wiki.
not to mention i would have to set 400 buy orders, then set 400 sell orders, if each one takes 10 seconds that would be 132 minutes of time, doing a fairly monotonous task.
Sure you can say it’s boring and repetetive – but since it’s kinda the same I do in RL for a living, it was kinda entertaining and one reason, why I stopped doing it.

My fellow players – Welcome to the free market!
It’s no free market, ‘cause the price for all high priced items are being manipulated by gold sellers and TP guilds (since TP is the easiest way to make money).
Even in a “free market”, you’d call this a cartel.
But: As long as someone wants to pay that much gold for a pre, it’s his/her decision. If you don’t want to, then don’t do it.

One of the most fundamentally agreed upon statements in the GW2 community.
Ah yes. Maybe that’s why you can read that in almost every statement considering pre’s… NOT.
I wouldn’t be surprised if gold sellers owned majority of the precursors.
You don’t have to point at gold sellers – TP guilds already do that too. It’s no big surprise, that some pre’s almost everybody wants never exceed 6 or 7 at the TP and never go below a special price
.
If you couldn’t buy them, you would see far fewer of them in game.
Yes, but you would see far more complaints in the forum.
Just my experience from another MMO I played for almost a decade: When they introduced “Legendaries” (what they would be there) that dropped in special dungeons, people were always angry and arguing, that they should make them tradeable, because it was frustrating to get them.
Why? Because (drop) luck is always unfair – even more, if someone has more luck than others and like 3 – 4 pre’s or very rare items (he often won’t even want or need because they don’t fit in his build) that are accountbound. I often ran dungeons, then someone said something like: “OMG, it’s my first time in here, I don’t even know how to play and I’m not geared at all because I just reached max level – look what I found: XYZ!” – “Great, I do this dungeon like the [look into stats] 476th time for this **** and still haven’t got it! ****…”
I’m quite happy that you can get them here via TP. And in the end it’s all the same, because:
- if you could get them for (a massive amount of) tokens – people will grind them,
- via a special, personal quest – people will just run through that quest (practically grind it).
- if you make it accountbound and only available per drop – people will grind.
- if you make it bound to karma/map completion – people will grind that too.
In the end something like the “Legendary concept” will ALWAYS lead to grinding – if you replace all options by: “Hey, you can get them by an universal currency you can get via different ways [gold]…” it’s in my opinion the best solution. The only flaw in the ointment: You can trade ingame gold via the shop – but: if people who want to do that couldn’t, they just buy it somewhere else (3rd party goldsellers).
The only players that (maybe) won’t grind are RPs, because it won’t fit in their concept. Any other player WILL start to grind, maybe not the first, but the second or third time – and then complain in the map chat and forum, that it sucks.
Precursors and legendary weapon skins should be a reward for in game achievements, not how much money you have.
Totally agree with this and I like the “get it with a special, superlong quest[chain], that eventually costs you a lot of time and gold” – but I already hear the screams of those who don’t like stuff like that and “just want their legendary!!!”. It’s always “hardcore gamers/raiders”, that want to be stuff like that a real achievement vs. those, who don’t want to spend all their free time for something special like that (a Legendary) and still be able to get it. At least that’s my experience in any MMO I played since the 90s and not any could come up with a good solution for this…
