I’m having very low FPS too since the patch. Win 10, GTX 970M, i7-6700HQ, 16 GB DDR4 SDRAM, and I can barely hit 20 FPS in town with all settings set to low. It’s unplayable at the moment.

considering their UI designer left the company not too long ago …… they might have an opening for someone like you.

That’d mean ArenaNet would have to offer enough to actually hire the best. You get what you pay for.

Conditions need to be able to crit and should be affected by precision and ferocity. Landing conditions should not be guaranteed. A character with no condition damage stat should have a very hard time of landing ANY conditions, while a character focused on condition damage will land every time the skill allows.

Permastowing a pet really shouldn’t be the “solution” to clunky pet mechanics. The people who would prefer this over having the pet mechanics improved/reworked just shouldn’t play rangers, I guess.

The problem is that pets are useless in or flat out break some PvE events, regardless of how much control you have over them. There has to be a way for rangers to maintain their DPS without relying on their pet if they are ever going to be on par with other classes in PvE.

I don’t post on this forum much, but the idea of a perma-stow for pets in exchange for an aura of some sort would make me actually play a ranger. Right now they are the only class I refuse to play. I absolutely love this idea.

Anyone remember the Nightwolf character from the old Mortal Kombat cartoon? He had a pet wolf that he’d fight with, and then occasionally “merge” with him to become a single fighting machine. I’m picturing this implemented in a similar fashion.

Well, you’re mixing a few terms there. OpenGL and DirectX are APIs that the Unreal engine can use. The Unreal engine being available on all of those platforms is due to the fact that it can use either OpenGL or DirectX APIs.

As far as NVidia’s drivers on Linux prior to this, Linux has been largely ignored by NVidia, and drivers that have made it over have usually suffered from bugs and a severe lack of optimization. Now that NVidia has announced they are prioritizing Linux driver support, that means we can expect to see current, optimized drivers.

Valve announced that SteamOS will be completely open source, and will operate like any tradition Linux distro on desktop PCs. They are simply gearing the new GUI towards a console/TV environment, but there’s nothing stopping us from using Gnome or whatever.

Also, NVidia has announced that they will begin specifically developing drivers for Linux, which is huge news. I would expect ATI to not be too far behind either.

So now we have a Linux distro with official driver support from NVidia, and a backbone geared specifically towards gaming. Gabe Newell has said the Source engine runs much faster on SteamOS than any other platform, Windows included.

I think most developers would be wise to begin using OpenGL over DirectX, since DirectX only gets you Windows and XBox, while OpenGL gets you Windows, SteamOS/Linux, Mac, PS3/4, Nintendo, Android, etc. Hopefully the SteamOS release includes some tools for porting from DirectX to OpenGL much easier.

GW 2 was advertised as a fun, casual MMO.

If you are a casual player, why are you worried about keeping up? I play very casually (typically only on Saturdays), and I still am able to participate in all the Living World content, and I’ve even gotten a couple ascended rings.

You don’t get current games or their developers to change to a different OS. Instead you build the OS that brings the games to it.

Until you have a major adoption of an OS by gamers you will not get things to change.

Well, that’s sort of the point. Many people have been clamoring for a Linux port, but Linux isn’t an easy OS to port games to. Because of this, Valve creates a Linux distro specifically catering to gaming. The question now is, which developers will be on board at launch, and which will be waiting until wider adoption. Steam OS looks to be a pretty big game changer though. I’d consider this bigger news than the next-gen consoles.

Of course, this would require ditching DirectX and adopting OpenGL, which is probably the major hindrance to not only this, but the native Mac client too.

90% of us have Steam installed already, and many are looking to ditch Windows. The only reason we haven’t yet is because if it’s necessity to play games. SteamOS will change that. They’ve already contributed a lot to creating a strong gaming backbone for Linux. SteamOS adoption is set to be huge, and not just for consoles, but for existing gaming PCs as well.

I’d be eager to see ArenaNet’s opinion of it. I know in the past they’ve stated that they’d like to develop a Linux port, but it wasn’t financially viable. If SteamOS takes off like I think it will, then it might start to make financial sense.

I know there’s been a lot of requests for Linux support in the past, but this seems like a great compromise. Valve has already done a lot of the work in making gaming viable on a Linux platform, so if Linux support was ever going to happen, SteamOS seems like it’d be the easiest route.

Like the title says, can we get an option to disable the windows key? Since we have to use left Ctrl and Alt frequently, this makes hitting the windows key mistakenly a regular occurrence.

This is in addition to an option to disable RMB targeting, and an option to disable Ctrl+clicking to call skills.

I don’t mind dying because I made a mistake or got outplayed, but dying because of crappy controls with no option to change them makes me unhappy!

Like the title says, can we get an option to reassign or disable the calling of skills with Ctrl+LMB clicking? Nothing more annoying than hitting Left Ctrl to highlight interactable objects during a fight, only to realize you are now sending all of your skills presses to the chat window, and now you are about to die because your heal skill won’t activate with the chat window open. Thanks.

Yeah I’d really like a way to get an unbreakable bell as well. It’s just too cool of a game feature to not provide to more people. It’s one thing to withhold cosmetic items, but the bell offers a new gameplay mechanic that a lot of people want to play with beyond Wintersday.

Wow, people complain about everything…

Name one RPG that hasn’t had some form of random loot? There’s a good enough balance of things you get from lucky drops and things you get from fulfilling a set prerequisite (crafting, etc). Just because the one item you want happens to be a random drop, doesn’t mean it’s a reason to criticize the entire game.

I haven’t had any problems with the gifts. The dolls are challenging but I have yet to see a gift despawn on me, and I like the feeling of danger. I didn’t even know gifts could despawn until I read this thread. The dolls hit hard but that’s what dodging is for. My low level necromancer with piece-meal armor hasn’t had any trouble getting gifts.

Lost Shores - Seems Pointless

I hate this focus on group events driving the story forward. They just turn into a giant lagfest where half the people can’t even get a kill in to get credit. I’d rather see more instanced quests (ala personal story) used to drive the event forward. Save the group events for filler or loot.

I’d also have liked to see more focus on giving us some juicy bits of lore to discover. Granted, every quest has been bugged for me so all I’ve really been able to do is explore the new island and try the new dungeon a couple times, so maybe I missed something there. I didn’t even see my first karka until the island opened up. There’s been a real lack of cohesion for this whole event.

What happened to the guys that designed the Halloween event? Its been a night and day difference.

Bumping this. No way to disable ctrl+clicking is the single biggest issue I have with this game, and it’s such a simple option to include…. It blows my mind that it wasn’t included in the first place. I can’t even begin to count the number of deaths I’ve taken because I’m holding down ctrl to highlight names, enter combat, then all my commands are going straight to chat. Very, very annoying.
