Yes I read your post…..my comment was not exclusively directed at your example but the general tone of MANY of the posts on these forums now.

Sorry if you felt I was singling you out, but I was just venting at all the “make GW2 more like WoW!!!”, threads around here.

I’m in no way saying Group Content couldn’t be improved, but requesting another (different) kind of phase based UBER champ battle that requires Trinity based roles to complete is not something I want to see in GW2.

The trinity could not be optional? I don’t understand why a complex battle must have trinity. IT’s just a balance thing, less damage because we have less heal, that’s it.

This is the ONE thing I truly dislike about an influx of WoW players….the constant push to change GW2 to be more like WoW. I LOVE the idea that more players are in GW2 but if you want to play WoW, go do so…..

Did you read my post? I don’t want a copy, I want MORE IN DEPTH COMBAT, with strategies and not just “dodge that bad red circle” or just spam skills so fast you can.

Just because I used a Lich King fight example, don’t mean I want the same skills of that boss, neither I want a WoW copy, I hate so many things in this MMO, and I am the first man to deny many other things from this game.

But you have to agree, the strategy needed in WoW is years ahead of general Guild Wars 2 situation. The truly is: it’s impossible to build a fight completely empty of “pre-made strategies”, but at least you can create scenario where, there is a few options instead of the pre-made strategy. Beyond that, to build a solid strategy (who turns a pre-made strategy), you need time, and a lots of attempts. That’s not exists here in Guild Wars 2, or at least, not like in WoW.

so the download just finished for me(thanks the gods), i followed the suggestion on this reddit thread and just let the patch go on its own, it downloaded around 100mb before being done

I don’t like the idea of having two leaderboards, that is weird and not useful. The number of games and pvp “rank” (wolf, bear, dragon, etc) already do the job of a experience/farm meter.

The question is: what is the BEST meter of player skill? A simple MMR isn’t good, because with a too little number of games you can reach the top of leaderboard. The number of games MUST be relevant to your position on leaderboard. My only concern with the current system is the little impact of lost games, implying in a rising and limitless farm of points.

A simple adjust on odds of winning fixes this issue, to grant less or even zero points for lost games where is not supposed to win.

I am in Brazil, and here we have poor connections, but I use BattlePing for alternative routes and I did not had this issue before. I have an avarage of 130-170ms ping.

This is really annoying, this bug is occurring several times in pvp and pve. It does not seem lag, because every other skills are working normally.

Good text, but sadly most of those tips do not apply to dummies (brainless that can’t read nor see minimap for pings

I would consider myself a casual player and I’m doing ok in the leaderboards. Played 87 games 50 points and last I checked I was ranked 654 with 52.87% W/L

That’s your opinion, 87 games in what, 3 or 4 weeks? That’s a lot for me.

I have a similar problem, plus, I got stuck some times in the ground causeless. After repeatedly press random keys I was released. When this occurs in a fight, usually I die before I can leave from the bug.

Its kinda pointless to take note of the leaderboards unless you play on a daily base with this system.

How do you combine having a proper social life, gf and career with playing a few hours a day? Its literally impossible.

So for normal human beings with a healthy social life and career; the leaderboard is not for you (unless you’re in school,uni or we)

So what’s the point to casual pvp player, he must not exists? I am casual and I play Dota 2, and I am not off from a measure of performance (MMR) because of that.

I think you are wrong, With specific builds you can counter specific builds, every profession have traits and trait lines to do DMG, remove conditions, control, etc. The problem is, when you go to a specific counter build, normally you lose hard in another encounters.

About second question, Engineer. He have the most useful and least bugged abilities of the game.

In my point of view, the problem here is not Celestial, is Celestial plus damage. If you have high survival you cannot have high damage, and vise-versa.

So, what about increase Sigil of Battle Might CD, or give to it a chance to trigger

To me, a simple change to odds of winning points, instead of win points for lose, not win points at all in loses will change this scenery. Why the points will stop climbing up and start to drop, giving chances for casuals to climb up if playing well.

Hey guys, in your opnion, what changes to the current LB can be made to be good for casuals and for try-hard players?

Fact 1: The current leaderboard gives more for try-hard players, and even more for try-hard plus skilled players (high winrate). An LB for Farm + Skill.

Fact 2: Casual players, even the skilled ones, are far behind or even off from the LB, some of the last players in Leaderboard ( https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/pvp?page=40 ) have 70%+ winrate, but not enough games to be placed. Today, you have to play at last 40 games to start climb up, and this number is increasing over time.

Fact 3: Because of average points from players are increasing over time, without limit, sometime will be impossible to climb up for new or casual players. Because if you lose less points for losing games, and every game win points for win, everyone points are climbing up.

Personal Perspective: I play at last 3 times for week, 10 games/week average . I have 40.91% of winrate and 11 points and I am 77% rank. I am a casual GW2 player (I split my time with BF4, Dota2 and other games). Seems to be very hard for me climb up the LB, even with better skill play (that’s not worth).

And about playing with a new profession, this system will not penalize these people? The current system use a different odds of winning when you play with a new profession, right? If you take the average points per game, you will not disable this feature?

To me seems that this system is just removing all the current advantages of “odds of winning” system, or at least throwing the relevance to the ground.

If you wanna a average points per game, is not better start the system from scratch and only take a fixed points per win / number of games?

I opened a ticket #1091320 but I still don’t have responses of ArenaNet support.

I can access my account from here, but I can’t unlink my authenticator, because to do this I need a working authenticator.

I have two suggestions, who can be mixed in one.

When a player finish the first story episode, he win a special exotic weapon, this weapon cannot receive skins neither give skins, only can be equipped.

When the player finished all the achievements (including the story achievs) of each episode, he unlocks a new skin step of the exotic weapon.

When the player finishes all achievements from the season, he unlocks a token, this token can be traded in the NPC, plus the exotic weapon, for a new unique, exotic, Soulbound on Use, precursor weapon, attached to the Season. This weapon unlocks the finished weapon skin, like any other weapon, on salvage or use. This way, the player saves the precursor skin and use the weapon to craft their legendary..

If the player sells the precursor, he lose the skin, because he did not unlocked the skin.

This precursor is not the same as the old precursors. It is a new precursor which can be used in place of the old precursor. Like the old precursor, there is one precursor for each legendary.

Each season gives a specific precursor weapon, for a specific legendary. The season precursor is chosen, in a rotating way, by the devs and lore writers. IT’s a unique one-time skin, the only way to receive this skin is finishing all the achievements of the season.

How about instead of an in-game bonus the friend who gets referred get’s a discount on the game, like $5-10 off.

Meh, I don’t think a discount on the game can be enough. In-game bonus is always better, especially exclusive bonuses.

Hello again folks, something I saw in others MMO’s, but never happened here is a RAF program. A way to earn a bonus for recruiting friends to play together, both for the recruiter and the player. Like the XP Bonus, special teleport and special mounts in the Blizzard title. Why not encourage the friendly gameplay, plus the coming of new players to the game? This is a huge improvement to the community and to the game itself.

It would kill the precursor economy and wouldn’t be fair to those who don’t/can’t login for the first few hours where precursors would drop significantly in price. A player shouldn’t be penalized or feel that way just because they weren’t online at a certain time.

A simple way to do this is: RNG drop of the Special Salvage Item OR a GEM buyable Item with a fixed price. This way ANet can regulate the market.

Hello folks, I want to suggest to the devs a special Salvage item for the next Patch. With the account-wide skins, the guys who farmed both legendaries for dual-wield or for use on other character can get back the precursor from Legendary and sell it on TP and start to craft a new Legendary.

That’s enough for those who have the legendary, it’s fair to the other players, do not have much impact compared to the un-soulbound legendaries.

What do you guys think?

The biggest proof is the Guildwars 2 Wine version, all graphic features are working flawless, just need more performance tweaks to be perfect.

The wine work is just replace Direct3D calls for opengl calls and Windows calls to Linux calls.

As far as I know the current MAC version was written the same way, replacing Direct3D calls for opengl calls. If that’s true, to make a linux version, just need some tweaks in the MAC port.

Unfortunately for us OSX users, this is not exactly true. The game engine is written for DirectX9. The OSX port uses a translation layer (Cider) to translate the API calls from DX9 to OpenGL. It doesn’t change them in the engine, it intercepts them and replaces them. This comes with considerable performance losses and potential for incompatibility (see the massive performance problem since the last patch), a number of limitations (related to memory usage) and various workaround needs for interface and window management.

A native OpenGL client comes with is very own host of problems though (which version of OpenGL to support, OS specific implementation problems etc.).

As much as I would love to see a native OpenGL version of GW2, I don’t see it making a lot of sense for Arenanet to divert resources to it until SteamOS sees a major gain in market share. And since it’s intended mostly as a living room device/console alternative, the need for controller support introduces yet another host of problems.

Seems that the MAC version is suffering the same issues of running the game through the Wine.

In my computer I suffer from about 50% of less performance running the game in Wine compared to Windows (latest wine version), plus a heavy FPS instability if max out the game graphics. But all features are working.

I really don’t know why game developers are still using Direct3D for developing. Today with so many devices and multiplataform tools, the use of a multiplataform engine is a must have.

I already saw some other games that implement OpenGL support after the release, like WoW, in this one, the time to rewrite the engine is the same to launch a Exp. I am still thinking that the work is worth.

From what I read about Steam OS they are making it so that Windows games will work on it rather than the game companies making a port. So just give time and Valve will fix it so that it will work. The amount of time and effort needed to port a game on to a different OS is flat out ridiculous (trying to port even a small program is a pain in the ass!).

The SteamOS will only support windows games in streaming mode, so you only will be able to play having another computer with a running Windows.

The amount of time depends directly of how the game was been written, a game like GuildWars 2, is easily ported, because there is a independance between Direct3D api and the game API. All features in the game were writen from scratch for the game. Just replacing the Direct3D calls to opengl calls will do the port.

I think Linux gamers are too small of a population to justify the time and effort to make an OS friendly GW2. MAC gamers are lucky enough to have beta support at the moment.

In my opinion, all games should just be played on a Window’s PC, regardless of how much you may dislike Microsoft.

Why all games should be played on a Window’s PC? I really don’t believe the costs are a cause. Today the users of steam for linux are close to 2% of 75M steam users, 1.5 million users, starved for good games.

In the next 6 months, with the release of steam machines, we can easily reach 5% of total users, and much more to come. With a close-to-exclusive MMO for SteamOS, Guild Wars 2 can grow up heavily your user base.

Hello folks.

I already use Ubuntu for work years ago. And today, I finally give up on Windows and came to SteamOS for gaming. I am seeing a big number of new games coming to linux because of the new Valve politic (SteamOS and SteamMachines), and this made me decide.

So I was wondering, maybe we can have a port for GuildWars 2 to Linux? I don’t know if we have a opengl version of the game (that’s maybe the most hard work to do in the porting).

I know, the game is playable in the wine, but without official support We don’t have guarantee this will keep working. Plus the wine method don’t use 100% of available resources and we have a lot of bugs.

If this is not in the job list of ArenaNet I want to suggest this, the new gaming linux market will grow a lot on next years. So that those who are not prepared will be left behind and have a lot of headaches in the future.

For now we (linux users) don’t have a good AAA MMO, but some titles are in developing (Entropy is the next one). Explore this market can be a good investment in the future.

Sometime ago, before the release, I’ve read a post from ArenaNet devs, that the port to consoles was in discussion for the future. If it’s true, the SteamMachines can be a initial target for the devs

The facts: The players need know how to count enemys dodges and CD’s, this split noobs from ‘pro’ players and makes the game more fun to be learned.

I’m not trying to be argumentative here, but there are so many things in this game that lead me to believe they are trying to keep casuals and pros on equal footing, instead of created the skill separation required for a game to be competitive.

Look at other competitive games:

Dota 2: You can’t see the CD of your enemys on UI.
WoW: On the default UI you can’t see the cd of your enemys (just suppose by mod’s).
LoL: You can’t see the CD of your enemys on UI.
BF4: You can’t see how much granades or bullet’s your enemy have.

So what is the point of being able to see enemy Dodge + whatever cd’s?

Yes you must see enemy’s cds WHILE in USE, not the Cooldown. This is ridiculous.
