I hate the fact that the reddit thread got locked. Silencing our voices because of the few that hate, especially given the events that occurred earlier today, is wrong. As far as I can see, there were four comment threads that were deleted, yet I don’t recall other posts in the gw2 subreddit ever being locked because of a few bad apples.

In any case, thank you for organizing this and I’ll try my best to be there with you all.

It looks kinda cool, but I don’ t know if I like the black (and other coloured) scuff marks. I know it’s probably to make it look “old”, but it seems odd to me.

Great job on the actual logo, though. That part looks fantastic.

Gwynefyrdd, the Halloween miniature

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kokuou.9537

kokuou.9537

Ok, that was a quick run across the room and here’s the answer:

Yep.

With the Maize Balm recipe making ToT bags a year-around item for those who craft it, or with the use of Vial of Maize Balm drops, pups will continue to be available for the foreseeable future. Obviously there’s Halloween 2015 to be designed, but it would be nearly a year before that would roll out, so the short answer is…

Yes.
Si.
Oui.
Ya.

I’m sorry, Gaile, but I’m going to have to disagree with the justification that ‘it will be available for the foreseeable future because Maize Balm will continue to be craftable’. Given that people have opened HUNDREDS of thousands of bags and not received the miniature, it is safe to assume that the drop rate is extremely, extremely low. This combined with the fact that Maize Balm is time-gated to one per day means that you could potentially farm about nine stacks of ToT bags (that’s IF you crafted every day and IF you didn’t waste any throws) over an ENTIRE YEAR. And considering it takes 100 candy corn to craft one, you’d also need to make sure you have the ingredients as the price of everything Halloween-related is most definitely going to go up after the holiday ends.

The problem with this kind of reward structure is that the people who truly want the miniature will most likely not get it (barring being extremely rich with funds to be able to purchase hundreds of thousands of ToT bags), and then you are going to have cases of people getting it who do not care about it (one of my guildies, for instance). If it was sellable, well that might be another story (still with an extremely ridiculous drop rate, imo), but as it stands, getting one is like winning a raffle of something you may or may not care for, but being unable to give it away in the case that you don’t want it. Worst case scenario is that people are TRASHING something that has a 1 in 100,000 chances (if not higher) of dropping.

I’ll be honest; I really want the puppy because it is adorable and because it reminds me of one of our dogs that we lost earlier in the year (who was only eight). That said, I fail to see the point in making something super rare that is account bound on acquire as it makes it impossible for those of us that truly want it to work toward, unlike almost every other item in the game.

Death/Downed Camera...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kokuou.9537

kokuou.9537

Huh, I can see how it would be frustrating for it to restart the spinning. Perhaps there is a happy middle ground where it starts out spinning then once you move the camera it stops.

As many people have now pointed out, the ‘happy middle ground’ you mention was how it worked previous to the Feature Patch and was actually implemented because players hated how it worked in the first place (as it is now, having been reverted).
While I am a bit baffled that a gameplay programmer would be unaware of this fact, I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt, but I still think we are owed a proper explanation as to why the ‘dead camera’ behaviour was changed back after being fixed and when we can expect it to be put back the way it was before the Feature Patch.

Defeated camera automatically spinning

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: kokuou.9537

kokuou.9537

Shortly after launch, an update removed the action that makes the camera automatically spin when you are defeated after no mouse input for a few seconds, but the Feature Patch reverted this change (hopefully inadvertently) so that the camera once again spins by itself when defeated after a few seconds of mouse input inactivity.

This is extremely irritating, so please consider re-reverting this so that the camera stops moving when defeated.

Edit: I mean the camera when defeated.

Dye Changes Feedback/Questions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

kokuou.9537

If A purchases Celestial and uses it, B will get an unidentified dye for the overlap. Any character created afterward will have access to Celestial, but NOT Abyss.

As posted in the official FAQ by Jaron above, this is incorrect.
If A has Celestial Dye and B has Abyss Dye unlocked before the patch, all characters on the account will gain access to both Celestial and Abyss after the patch. Any further instances of those colours having been unlocked on other characters will be ‘reimbursed’ by having an unidentified dye being mailed to them.

Discussion : Lags problem in WvW servers

in WvW

Posted by: kokuou.9537

kokuou.9537

It’s funny to see some JQ players posting here with their QQ rage comments. I never said ANet gives them special powers, all I said was “The biggest problem that I have with this is ANets home server JQ…JQ players were able to flawlessly land their attacks and abilities.” Like other people say some servers are able to move and attack freely even with the lag. Your fault if you assumed something else, and suspicious how aggressively you are defending yourselves -_-

My DS sometimes didn’t even go down, walked around as a black cloud for a few minutes then out of nowhere 17k DS and 28.8k HP just went down and died instantly.

But still no sign of that thread of ANet addressing this issue. Maybe it was posted on another site if anyone has links?

You claimed that JQ was getting preferential server treatment because it is ArenaNet’s home server. The comments about ArenaNet giving JQ ‘special powers’ were mocking you for stating something so silly and inane. Moreover, ArenaNet’s employees are spread across many servers. In fact, in all my time playing WvW (probably about 10 months or so), I have seen very few ArenaNet tags WvWing on JQ. I know that they can play without their tag on, but I’d say it’s safe to assume that JQ is by no means the ‘home server’ for their employees.

Inaccurate API response for events

in API Development

Posted by: kokuou.9537

kokuou.9537

Thanks for all the responses, guys. I suppose the defense event would make the most sense in that as long as it’s not reporting ‘fail’, the temple should be open.

Still, the fact that I’m getting ‘fail’ for some of the events in the chain that are required for the temple to be open despite the temple currently being open seems to indicate that there is a bug in events and their states are not being saved properly.

Inaccurate API response for events

in API Development

Posted by: kokuou.9537

kokuou.9537

So, I’m trying to create a small webapp that determines which temples are open on which servers. I thought that I could use the event.json API with the event_id parameter, but the responses I’m getting are inaccurate.

At first, I was calling to check the last event in the meta-event chains, and if it was listed as Success, then I assumed the temple was open. However, I was getting Success for some temples that were currently closed.

Then, I thought that maybe the Success state stays until the event loops back around and is changed to Active, so I thought I’d instead check all the events in the specific event chains for Success, but that doesn’t work either. For some reason, a temple that is currently open on Yak’s Bend (Melandru) is showing Fail for one or two of the events in the event chain.

So, my question to the devs is: How can we accurately check that a temple is currently open on a particular server?

While my opinion on some of EMP’s members transferring servers is completely irrelevant, making a rash decision with a few other members (I’ve heard it was one other, but I may be mistaken) to move servers without consulting the rest of the guild (or even giving a few days’ notice) is neither calm nor diplomatic.

Grabbing bags is annoying in wvw

in WvW

kokuou.9537

Also, whats the use of the wooden chests? ANet claims that they contain higher tier items than the normal bags of loot. So far I have only noticed this on the steel chests, the wooden chests seem to be either bugged or useless. 80%++ (being generous) of the time I pickup a wooden chest I either get nothing or a barb… Nothing or a worthless trophy lol. Doesn’t seem like it’s working. I’ve received more rares from normal bags of loot than the wooden chests, which is contradicting don’t you think?

The steel chests seem to work though. I’ve found 3 or 4 so far and got exotics out of them.

As stated earlier in the thread, if you get ‘nothing’ out of the wooden chests, it’s because you got supply. If you had max supply beforehand, you won’t notice anything, but if not, you’ll see that you have up to five more supply than before opening the chest.

Crash on use of Pinyin to input Chinese/many characters do not display

in Account & Technical Support

I’m bumping this because I have the same issue. I can type maybe one sentence in Mandarin using pinyin, but when I hit enter to type again, my client crashes, which is extremely frustrating, especially when you’re in WvW and you want to communicate with Mandarin speakers. Thankfully, just typing with English pinyin is somewhat of a workaround, but there was obviously work put into the engine to allow for the input of Mandarin, so can we get a comment from a dev as to why this is happening?

Yes, if you wait by the chest, it will close and you can open it again. I know as I’ve done this in the past (gone too early and had to wait a few minutes). Also, it might be dangerous to afk there, so you might want to grab the invisibility fountain while you wait.

Ya, if you are playing against NPC’s, these guys aren’t stupid.

Edit: that was maybe 10-20% of the people they had camping in the puzzle too.

Actually, I was around when they were doing that, and that’s most of the people that were camping the puzzle, so saying that was 10-20% is a gross exaggeration. There were maybe three or four more, but the rest were coming in, getting the chest, and leaving.
And to tell the truth, after SBI came in with about 10 people, they managed to destroy two arrow carts, get to the top of the beast room, and take us out to get to the top.

As far as I know, you can just copy the folder where GW2 is installed (the one with the .dat file) onto your new computer and play from there by clicking the EXE file. I downloaded the game during one of the first betas way back near the beginning of the year, and there was no installer then and I still just have a folder with GW2 in it that I made a shortcut for on my desktop that I use to launch the game.

Translating the game?

in Suggestions

Posted by: kokuou.9537

kokuou.9537

As someone who does translation for a living, I can tell you that this kind of crowd-sourced translation leads to shoddy translations that are inconsistent in style, tone, and a whole plethora of other linguistic features. A professional company like ArenaNet would and should never use such a translation method as a small team can produce a much higher-quality end product in probably a shorter amount of time (albeit more expensive).
