Just when you thought they couldn’t make minis any more useless they come up with this. Utterly ridiculous. Also, I’m still waiting for them to get a speed boost. What’s the point of having them when they’re off screen 98% of the time when you’re moving.
I love how Anet keep designing and charging gems for new minis when the fundamental implementation of them is still rubbish after 2 years.
Nah, was away from the game around that time.
Wait, people got refunds for outfit duplicates? Where’s my refund for my useless duplicate Infinite Light then?
What a ridiculous idea.
5 tickets for the old skins is utter nonsense. Who in their right mind would actually go for that?
The human female style of holding it is pretty much perfect. The female Norn running stance looks stupid though unfortunately.
At least you guys got something. I made 2 Infinite Lights for my Mesmer and the second one is literally worthless now.
Anet has amazing environmental artists but their designs for weapons and armour are really lacking. I’m picky and prefer minimalist looks but to me 80% of the weapons/armour in GW2 looks pretty terrible for my tastes.
This!
Infinite Light, Bonetti’s Rapier and the Lovestruck sword to a certain extent are the only good looking swords in this game.
I would add the Fractal Sword to this, and also Honor of Humanity and Firebringer. And maybe the Ebon Vanguard sword. I myself use Infinite Light since, to me, this is by far the best-looking one. It was well worth the insane cost IMO. Now, if only the rather cool glowing runes would not glow when sheathed and it would appear just like a regular longsword when not drawn… This has already been done with Beacon of Light, why not with Infinite Light as well? Especially since the cost of the latter is mind-numbing…
I forgot about the Fractal Sword, that’s probably my second favourite skin besides Infinite Light. Fractal Weapons are a myth for 98% of the population. I’m up to level 39 and never gotten a single drop.

Fractal weapons are an absolute farce. Ridiculous that the problem still hasn’t been addressed.
The dual wielding issue is a very easy fix. Just make it so that you have to actually buy two copies of a weapon to actually dual wield it. Problem solved. That’s not unfair to anyone and just common sense.
So I guess crafting two Infinite Lights was a waste of time then. I don’t even get a stat benefit. lol
Viable in the context of PvE means “a good idea”. Just because it works doesn’t mean it’s worth using otherwise the answer to every thread about viability would be yes. I think the only Mesmer build that wouldn’t work for PvE would be a condition sceptor/torch build.
Can’t tell you how many mesmers i see who hardly ever shatter…….IE most of them.
That’s because shatter damage is terrible in dungeons. The biggest use for shatters in dungeons is f3 to put on vulnerability (if traited) and f4 for defense.
Shatter damage is as you have said, burst damage -> highly effective at dropping targets in PvP but against target’s larger health pools in dungeons it is extremely ineffective.
Yes the phantasms die when the target they’re spawned on is killed, so you should shatter right as it is about to die, but until then you’ll do much better DPS by letting them live and continue to attack.
That said, 20/20/0/0/30 will work just fine for open world PvE as the content is extremely easy there with most mobs being normal (or bronze vets) and having smaller health pools where shatters are effective.
In dungeons however you’ll be facing mobs of a higher level than you, silver vets, and champ/legendary bosses. If you want to be doing anything approaching decent dps you’ll need phantasms that stay alive.
I’m sorry I can’t help you more, but that really is the harsh truth of it. The reason why you see sword/focus builds going 10/30/0/20/10 and 0/20/0/25/25 and cannot find shatter builds is because the phantasm builds bring the best support/damage to the party while the shatter builds do not.
Meh, i play shatter in pve all the time. Shatter builds can do very good dps and will really shine in path 2 of CoF or anywhere tons of aoe damage is needed. Personally I can’t stand phantasm builds in dungeons. I shatter off of cd, most people do not.
There’s a reason no one plays shatter builds in dungeons – it takes far more effort to sustain while simultaneously producing significantly less DPS. There’s literally zero reason to run shatter builds over phantasm builds in dungeons. The most useful shatter in dungeons is the F4 and you don’t even really need to spec into illusions to make use of that.
It’s probably because the male characters look atrocious in comparison.
It might be because I always run phantasm builds but skill 3 seems to do a ridiculous amount of damage.
If you want gold, you do dungeons.
If you want champ bags, you do FG
If you want rare drops, you do world boss
If you want fractal weapons, you do fotm
The problem with this is is that the fractal weapon drop system is daft and the chances of you getting the one you actually want in a reasonable timeframe is miniscule.
You were relying on exploiting a bug that much in your build?
GW2 clutter is from obscene amounts of particle effects rather than the UI. I quite like the UI we got actually.
Fractals probably have the worst time/skill/reward ratio of any PvE content especially when you get past level 30. The base gold you earn is pathetic and the quality of the drops range from decent to atrocious.
It’s mind boggling how they still haven’t changed the ways in which you get the skins too.
Demand “skill” of your players and see what happens. Hint: Killed Tequatl lately?
Teq doesn’t require player “skill”, it just requires logistics.
It requires an amount of effort that most players aren’t willing to make.
I don’t really think it’s the co-ordination that turns people off Teq. It’s the absurdly numbing wait time, the skill lag, disconnects and bugs that have soured most people.

They’re clogging up your inventory/bank space and thus serving their true purpose in the game.
Everyone knows the skill to reward ratio in this game is completely screwed. To be fair in most MMOs time will always trump skill in terms of money making.
What a ridiculous thing to complain about. Of all the flaws that need fixing this doesn’t even make the top 200 and it’s debatable if it needs changing at all.
Basically the whole premise of the thread is negated by the fact you can simply choose to not use the waypoints. Removing them completely would be ludicrous and break the game.
It’s not negated by that fact. If I chose to walk to a dungeon, I would get kicked within the first 5 minutes because people are not patient. I like the idea that someone said earlier where one person would run to the front of the dungeon and activate a stone that teleports the entire party to the dungeon. Or you could run there yourself. I can’t choose not to use waypoints if I want to kill a big boss or do a dungeon, which is basically the entire “end-game” of GW2.
But I do agree with you. Removing waypoints entirely would not be a wise move on Anet’s part. Reducing the amount of waypoints, however, would not break the game in any way. If it were up to me, I’d reduce the amount of waypoints and increase the cost so people would not be so inclined to teleport whenever they feel the need. A large part of MMO’s for me was the journeys you take to get to your destinations. Guild Wars 2 lacks journeys and adventure.
Your ideology of how to play GW2 it would be extremely selfish for you to form a group while being on the opposite end of the word map. The obvious solution would be to get to the dungeon entrance and then form a party.
I do agree that game could probably halve the amounts of waypoints it has. Open world bosses would be ludicrous if people had to run their way every time. For most people the journey and adventure is enough the first time around. The majority of players don’t have the desire or the time to relive it everytime they play.
The scaling for Golem is woeful though. It can be done pretty quickly in a group of 5-8 people but when there’s a large group there it takes ten times longer. Also is there any reason SB didn’t get the same HP buff the rest of the bosses did? Thing dies in under a minute every time still.
The problem with Teq isn’t the difficulty – it’s not even hard skill wise, just logistically. The main issue is the fact that you have to sit around for large amounts of time just to participate. Disconnecting is also a disaster since there’s basically zero chance of retaining your spot.
You weren’t supposed to camp it, the idea was that everyone comes together whenever he spawns, and eventually, people will learn the mechanics and co-ordinate between themselves to beta him.
Nice vision, but it doesn;t work in practice.
Whoever thought that was going to work was pretty daft. How can you get enough people to come in time after he spawns when you need almost 100? Co-ordinating that many pugs on the fly would never work anyway.

Have you considered taking Prismatic Understanding? That’s enough survivability for a Mesmer in WvW IMO.
What I don’t get is the argument that GS is more “fun”. The weapon is boring as kitten in PvE.
Both the “buffs” we got were pretty puzzling. The radius is far too restricted and everyone’s gripe with them was the long charge time. The sceptor’s auto attack speed remains unchanged which means no one is going to use it anyway.
It’s good for PvP. For dungeon it’s definitely not optimal. Personally I also find the weapon boring as hell to use.
By your logic skins are useless too since they’re just cosmetic. The entire point of GW2 (supposedly) was to play for looks and not stats, so I don’t see how liking minis is any different than liking a particular weapon skin.
I’ve said it a couple of times. Acquiring mats isn’t the topic here.
The topic is that crafting something with mats you didn’t buy doesn’t mean you got a free item. Free would be an item mailed to you. This gives you the item but takes mats that had value. Thus not free.
You give those materials money value. I do not.
So, free for me.
The fact they have monetary value isn’t something open for debate, it’s simply fact. Daft post.
The problem with Anet producing new minis so often is the fact that their whole mini system is fundamentally flawed in almost every facet. Why on earth does my mini disappear every time I go into a new zone/instance? Why do they lag behind so much that I basically never see them on my screen when I’m moving? Why do I have to to carry every single mini I want to use in my inventory when they should all be accessible via a mini slot in my hero screen?
The way minis are handled in this game is seriously unsatisfying and it’s a joke they keep making new ones instead of fixing how they’re actually used in game.
Mass invisibility is fine for solo roaming, in fact I’d say it’s the most useful. Who actually uses time warp against trash mobs?
Sw/Sw + Sw/Focus for trash mobs and bosses where reflect is useful. For bosses where you can’t reflect anything I usually swap out the focus for pistol.
Vision of the Mists looks horrible because the base model is absolute garbage. Personally I don’t really like any of the legendaries Mesmer’s can wield besides the GS (which I only use in WvW) so I went with 2 Infinite Lights.
Just when you thought Anet couldn’t put anything more ridiculous in the gem shop this happens.
Mesmers take a while to kill things but they’re probably one of the most survivable classes in the game.
Mind boggling to think that anyone could say GW2 is alt friendly with a straight face.
It’s one of the most outrageous things about this game and that’s saying something. I pretty much gave up hope of ever getting a Fractal sword.
There’s nothing wrong with using stealth in PvE…
Zerker gear with a phantasm build. Sword on both sets with a focus/sword/pistol depending on your preference and situation. Blurred frenzy , decoy, blink and F4 shatter make anything other than zerker gear redundant for Mesmers in PVE.
