The issue is that the character who achieves or purchases the precursor it is soulbound to that character. This isn’t about the wardrobe this is about switching the item to a character type that can use that item but it was purchased with a different character that could not use it. I simple want to move the precursor from one char to another and because its soulbound I can’t do it. Also to chance the look it may look good but you still need the original precursor to forge the legendary.

It was discussed in another post that the general community felt that this was an unfair decision. Most felt that a compromise could be established in which after completing one GOB or one GOE then the rest of the account that completed it should have access to those gifts as we are repeating what we already have done. The community was wondering if Guild Commendations or some other form could be used to obtain the GOE and GOB for the account that opened it.

It seems to me that the game is reverting back on some of the original decisions they made at the beginning of the guildwars 2 launch. For example the decision came down that their would be no healer class – this is why the monk class was lost to us. Other classes also fell to the wayside like Dervish (my favorite), the Ritualist and the Paragon (a class most people want to forget ever existed). Now we have a Druid which is quite frankly a healing class predominately. And even the devs themselves have stated that they have going back to the old system to take ideas for this new system. Why go through all the hassle just bring those classes back and give us 4 new classes. After all you created the Revenant for which reason again? And a lot of the skills that those old classes had are present within the game now Ex the swinging reaper looks awful like a Dervish to me and I’ve seen some skills called Arias (that what paragon skills were called) and I think the Mesmer looks a lot more like a Ritualist except their illusions can move (kind of a poor Minion Master if you ask me). In the old game the Memser was a force to be reckoned with. The chances to Dominate for the mesmer is a complete 180 from what it was.

I degress back to the subject. If you are going to make everyone everything get it over with already its already ticking people off you might as well complete the circle. Your still going to continue to loose gamers as long as you go down this road, I know I’m not going to forget what this game was meant to be in the beginning and what was promised to the community. Its a shame that your willing to cookie cut everything and call it new while in reality your simple repeating what was already done from designers that are no longer with the company. I challenge everyone go look at the original Guildwars and tell me if your not seeing this as well. You can also look at the GW wiki. We are copying and putting things back from the old way for one simple reason it worked. Your community is telling you it worked and you should have expanded the game from the old system and not hit the restart button. The gw2 storyline ws great for the Tyrian end but from Scarlet up its a waste. People logged into Guildwars daily like clockwork for that system now we are lucky guildies show up at all, gamers are disappearing and not one individual has come forward to simple say we need to rethink this and go back to what the gaming community have been screaming and warning about. Because so far we’ve been right. Or do you want me to mention that fact that we have propelled the storyline forward by saying two dragons are active. It says something with free accounts go inactive for a month or so. So I for one a going to pray during this hoiday season that someone reverts the GW2 system back to its original form and actually hear the community out.

Given all the cookie cutting like a mad baker. The fact remains that the game has taken classes that we have come to use as caster classes and have now successfully changed everything into a front like tanky class. Whether or not the tanks survive is another thing. And while I will be the first to say that yes typically this in the norm. Many reasons exist but let me sum it up this way. The reason a caster casts is then need to move their arms, verbal words, etc. In heavy and Medium armor this is extremely hard to accomplish just due to the weight of having to do it repeatedly. Picturing spellcasters running around with arms like the Hulk here, not a pretty picture. Anyway even with the change to strict melee classes for every profession and trying to get every profession to use every weapon its still not going to change the fact regarding both armor type as well as spell caster or the rest. I mean at the rate we are going we are all going to be spellcasters, warriors and thiefs. If this is truly what the devs want to do fine but lets get it all out fast so we can at least attempt to adjust to it. In the meantime, don’t just support the Melee class not all of use are going to switch to that just because you put it in your game. You need to support the spellcasting, staff and scepter builds folks are using and many of the other equipment. You already dealing with the issue that the Berserker ARmor is the best in the game and the rest really have no purpose if they did they would be used and if you can’t see it then you are out of touch with your community.

IT would seem to me that everyone has pretty much agreed that the Old Lion’s arch was a better choice. I for one agree with that sentiment. The NEW LA reminds me more of a Theme park with some very poor designs trying to make it look like some sort of seagoing city. Strangely I’ve never seen any ships coming into port in LA? I wonder if the rest of the races think like we do and choose to avoid it like some rejected Disney World. Careful kids the rides will kill you – just look at the new Troll Puzzle if the consistent pain to complete isn’t already enough to make you want to go screaming into the depths of the harbor begging Grenth to take me rather than go through that again,

I read through all of the posts and I believe we all have some common ground here. For starters I agree with the WVW people about having to do the complete map many times to unlock the GOE. I understand their pain I have 16 characters and its a pain to keep having to complete the thing. I would think that best choice would be to simple state that if we have done map completion for at least 1 character the map should be complete the for the rest. In so doing perhaps the Devs can then unlock the GOE say with commendations so the WVW folks and PVP folks can get it that way.

While saying I see the same thing for the PVE folks. IT makes sense that the GOB could be bought with commendations as well but I do think that perhaps in the same way as above – it couldn’t hurt to have the PVE players stick it out for one GOB reward track.

I guess the one thing I would ask the DEVS is since we have many players that have already done both why not all these gifts to already be available for the older accounts. In this way they win and we win a good compromise. The get the new gamers to get a feel for both and you never know you might get a few that take to doing either and like it.

Ahem…. let me get back to the original point of my post. I believe that the GOB should be a universal item for everyone to get. I am talking across the board a way to achieve it in PVE, PVP and WVW. I am concerned that we are being directed into areas of the game that we as players do not want to do. It segregates us from the rest of the community or forces us to comply with areas of the game that we have no interest in. This argument has been a long one that goes back to the very beginning. Many suggestions have been made including creating a server for PVP, for PVE and for WVW people to participate on. Their have even been ideas to make the PVE world a have the option to be PVP within the game environment. I hate to talk of other games but I am referring to the WOW separation of server so the players can choose where and how they want to play.

As for the amount of time that it takes to achieve this item GOB I’d like to point out that even if I decided to sit in the WVW and just sit their I have no interest in running around just to collect exp for GOB. I will not attack other players so I am a victim in a situation where I need to constantly res and go again for (not sure how many hours) to get the one item I need. This is not a fun way to play a game.

Interesting information we have gathered here. I tend to find that their is an answer that the Devs have thought about but perhaps have gone a different direction.

The return of the 6 now this is interesting. I thought of this because clearly someone or something we at work in the creation for the Dragons. I mean from the stories they wake up destroy everything, suck up the magic and then go back to sleep. Somehow that cycle got into place.

I’m not sure the 6 would indeed favor the Humans. Besides we all know that the term god for the humans could be just that different. These “gods” could have been in fact supped up characters that travels or existed and moved on into other realms. Perhaps that is where we are getting the Fissures of Woe, The Underworld etc. from.

I know these posts are old but I am hoping we can reopen this or start it from this point, Sorry Mod this was just too good to pass up.

Lets take a step back to GW1, I’d like to remind folks that the Great Destroyer is the one that woke up. Our buddy Prim. woke up because the Asura were using him like a Giant battery and he woke up on them from sucking his energy. Now as Prim. is the Elder dragon clearly with Fire he does have another portfolio as I am convinced each Elder Dragon has two. I will assume that Balthazar was one of his creators and I will assume that the second would be possibly Melandru (the earth factor). Also with this in mind we can assume that these dragons were given a mission when they woke up to start setting into play the End Times and recreate the world. The dragons need then to soak up all the magic they can find. So Prim. could have been wandering around trying to collect his energy but still very low thanks to the Assura. So my thought is its been slow going for Prim. just like traveling through rock. And we need to keep in mind in order to maintain the balance of the powers given to the Dragons by the Gods when a Dragon dies those powers need to be divided or we’d have some serious power shifts in the elements. I am more interested what happens when the Gods Guard Dogs are put to sleep permanently . I will assume the Gods will feel the power shifts and come to find out and not be too happy with the races for destroying their plan

Love the conversations here. But alas I thought of another question. We need to remember that the God Abbadon was locked up and then defeated (nightfall) When he fell Kormir took his place and became the Goddess of Truth. Wouldn’t it be possible Kormir would be present in the Mists to award Rytlock for the truth. She may simply have been their as she wouldn’t technically know where the other Gods went. It would still keep Zaitan in check and the Sea Dragon as Abbadon would have been around when the powers were given out to the Elder Dragons. Meaning the Elder Dragons become Elders when they inherited the powers (portfolios) of the Gods that aided in their creation. But Kormir has never had that opportunity – Perhaps Aurene will get her powers?

I hate to agree with you but perhaps we will agree to disagree. I don’t see the relevancy in supporting a system that takes only part of the community and ignores the rest. I myself have been playing the game since the launch of Guildwars Vanilla all those years ago. And contrary to your belief their have been players disappearing. I would like to know who’s left with one account that plays regularly – more than once here on the forums players announce that areas are dead. Their not dead for no reason. And yes I agree GW2 is setting itself apart from many of the other MMO’s out their, so far apart that the original value of Guildwars and what made that game popular (and built this company by the way) has gone extinct. But the Devs know that the old material worked and keep tapping back into it to bring those ideas forward. Their was a Twitch conversation with a developer of the Revenant character (I believe) that took concepts from the original game and ideas from that game to create the specializations out here. Have you not noted the Necro looks a lot like the Dervish, or the Dragonhunter the Ranger trapper or some paragon skills like Arias showing up in builds all from the original game. My humble opinion is if it was working why mess it up.

Okay perhaps we can all turn this around and work this out. I mean we all do have one common goal here we all love the game that’s why we are playing it. So lets give the Devs some feedback here maybe it can get them to change their minds or give them feedback for later releases. Okay what was working for everyone and what did they like us – as bullet points and we will go from their:
- I liked the original build program with the lines instead of the circle. I feel that skills should be learned over time as we progress in the game.
-I feel that everyone should at least go through the whole story at least 1 time and map the boards 1 time.
-I liked the horizontal maps (we had some vertical in the Jumping Puzzles and a few dungeons.
-I do not like ranged classes being fighter classes – like a Necromancer with a GS makes no sense whatsoever.
-I like the original character classes (the Special Classes were not looked on favorably such as Dragonhunter, Scrapper etc. – some Guildmasters even rejected people to join guilds that had players playing these classes)
-I liked the difficulty or the zone determined by the character level – this was especially useful when I was a new player. This is why I think level increases should be a norm
-I liked it when the player could choose what part of the game they wanted to do not being forced to do something in the game in order to progress in development – for example I am very against forcing players to get a legendary piece from WVW and from fractals to create a precursor. Not everyone likes or wants to do WVW, PVP and Fractals sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
-I liked it better when the servers were split and think WVW and PVP should be their own servers. IF people want to hack and slash each other or run around and kill each other then by all means go do it, have fun, leave me out of it. No interest if you see me it means I am trying to get something I need for crafting, farming or completing a stupid reward track needed to craft a legendary like Gift of Battle (which by the way use to be FREE)

HoT isn’t amateur. There are people who didn’t like HoT and came back to find after giving it another chance, they did like it.

So knowing that a book isn’t written by a pro on the first page isn’t really the best analogy for the situation. Clearly some people really like HoT. It’s not like Anet is submitting a ms. to a publisher and it got rejected.

HoT isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but then, some people found different ways to approach it and some of those ended up liking it.[/quote]

Sorry to bust your bubble on this guy but many of the people also didn’t like HOT. To be specific we lost a lot of people ad many have not come back yet. We hope but the problems are not corrected to get them to even think about coming back. And many, many still don’t like it – The Dev’s launched it with many people on the forums telling them to wait to hold off until it was fully developed. Many saw problems because of past expansions that Guildwars has released. It was too much too fast for the community and we are still in a mess with several of the issues yet even after all this time of the HOT launch. As a matter of fact some of the review boards went so far as to think this might be a huge blow to the budget of Guildwars 2. I heard and read it all from Reddit to the boards. I still think it can be fixed and will always hope so but its clear that their are somethings that they launched with HOT that was not favored by the community as long as these things stay your loosing gamers. For example this Mastery System, They tried to add new maps for WVW (people stopped playing WVW until it was changed back and it was changed back), so in a nutshell the community warned everyone about these situations before it occurred the company choose to ignore it and as a result they are getting exactly what they wanted. I just can’t help but wonder if the blow was so severe that we are now faced with instead of one dragon on an upcoming expansion we are in fact getting 2. Why the rush now for 2? Folks need to start looking between the lines and look at some of the past to see what is being repeated, none of this is really new happened with Factions, Nightfall redeemed them to the community and they Eyes of the North and the announcement of Guildwars 2. I would just think if we were doing so well we wouldn’t be offering free accounts, rushing product, changing a system that folks are still complaining about and getting extra money out of players for things that would take forever and a day to farm within the game. It still seems that farming looks more like a job to me and a lot less like having fun?

But when new people joining the game needs to buy gems to turn to gold to remain competitive or get that look they want the only real way to do it is buy the gems or prepare for years of farming. It would just seem to me that Gold Sellers are really saying that if the system was balanced people wouldn’t need the services to begin with. And I applaud you for playing games center on a Counsel gaming system but that not what’s happening here nor should it. If you want to do first person shooter that please go do that elsewhere. This game was design with maps and quests and that is what the community has been doing and is use to doing.

If the new material being released on September 20 has the same map system and existing system its not going to change peoples opinions and very well could drive more people away. Do keep in mind that their is a reason they are showing the next dragon either they are trying to gain players back because HoT forced a lot away or they are going to be doing a full expansion for the holidays. Either way with the existing system and the way its implemented I cannot see it being successful.

No one had to purchase Bloodstone Fen (a new design approach), and if one purchased Heart of Thorns and did not like those maps, one could easily get a refund.
One does not/did not even have to set foot in a Heart of Thorns map to acquire Elite Specializations

In response to this very true you did not have to purchase HoT. However the way things that were done in the game were change whether you liked them or not. For example no more precursors dropping, the builds still changed the way they were both unlocking skills as well as changing the way builds were altogether. Either way you were forced to get HoT or fall to the wayside with the new designs, weaponry, mobs around Tyria, etc. It was very clear that the community was not for the changes nor did they like the changes, they chose to accept it and in the end they got burned for it. To this day we are still waiting for the things promised to be delivered. Ex: 25 stacks of condition damage – the Conditionmancer is still extinct.

I still have to stand by my original thought. I don’t see HoT as successful as a matter of fact I still see it as a weakness to the overall game. And quite frankly I would like to see the stats on what the whole community likes. I mean I don’t know if you have looked around but were not exactly teaming with players lately.

In the end though its their game and we go along with whatever direction they want to go. Even though I would like to point out the community warned everyone about what was going to happen and urged players to think this through. When HoT hit the forums, reviews and others were begging people not to purchase it. However, we still have the luxury to play what we choose to play. I got through HoT in 2 weeks and really don’t expect to do anymore with that content or content similar to that. I would much prefer a turning back of time and going back to what was working and not be subjected to things I have no interest in doing like WVV, gliding, Fractals and PVP. Your taking the fun out of the game when you do that. Farming already feels like more of a job than anything fun.

My opinion of the game as a whole is that its a great game and I have been putting time, and money doing this for very long. Its just my humble opinion that we went from a system that was well laid out and working fine (prior to the release of HoT) to adopt a system that seems to be well ludicrous. And yes I do realize that farming seems to be the tried and true method out here but lets face facts folks it take a long time to create, or purchase anything out here or farm the necessary mats to make said item. But what remains is still many issues in game that haven’t been fixed yet. For example the condition damage is still weak – especially for bleeding due to a change in the formula that game developers used. The way skills are learned in our builds is weak this circular method stinks. I was better to progress your way through the build by selecting what skills you wanted to unlock for the build rather than having to take skills that you are not going to use because they are not part of your build.

The prior fractal system was much more in line to give players a better feeling to jump around to the different fractals but now we are grinding the levels to climb higher to get into the areas to obtain items say for legendary weapon crafting. And shockingly as this comes many people don’t like fractals so why put in having to do fractals to get the mats to craft Legendary Weapons or Precursors like the Legend.

Now the Mastery issues I am going to explain this as clearly as I can. When this game was released years ago the system was in place was learn as you go. Meaning if you wanted to say be a master in a Greatsword you actually had to go out and use the greatsword to learn it. It was more realistic. The way the Mastery system is set up now is you get to farm for an ungodly long time to unlock an area while also farming for the points to unlock the skill. Very boring and very time consuming. I’d rather earn the abilities one at a time through progressive playing using the item. I’d like to go back to capping skills from bosses through out the game hunting points to open skills from them than using this Mastery point thing and have to once again farm the points for something that should have been opened in game play through the storyline . And I very much want to see the stackable maps (like in HoT) be thrown out.

I want a challenge not to be bored to death to have to farm all the time in an area of the game that I enjoy like PVE.

Gotcha so we can get caught from buying without but its okay to buy within the game. Makes sense to me.

I am referring to when you first log in about Twitch and the highlights of the tournament’s that are communications space filler. Like I could careless three teams from NA is about to meet three Teams from EU. Its pointless advertising to someone who could careless. I’d rather hear about what the guilds that do in the PVE area I play in the most are doing.

So let me just get this straight we have to listen to PVP content that sucks, about groups we could careless about, doing something we think should be take in a field and buried. Makes sense to me.

Yes you are correct its an expansion of the Living Story but using the same abilities and mapping system as HoT. My hope is that they will kill the whole HoT idea and go back to the originally this game was introduced to their community. I’m tired of seeing players leaving because they hate HoT so much and being forced to do something they do not like or want to do like Fractals, WVW or even PVP. But we have to do these for the items for precursors and/or an ingredient like Gift of Battle which is a reward track in WVW.

No I agree that HoT stinks. I have always hopped that they would dig a big hole and throw the thing in and bury it. I’ve been doing guildwars since the original game was launched (vanilla) and I tell you I’ve never had a worse experience with the game.

I feel that with this expansion we are just going to repeat HoT and once again will loose gamers or people will just sit where they are. I fully regret Hot the maps were terrible, gliding stinks, the Mastery System is very, very terrible, and quite frankly I am tired of having to farm all the time to get anywhere in the game and play aspects of the game that are for me not fun like WVW, PVP and Fractals. I am afraid that this expansion will just drive more people away as the Developers have not really fixed any of the issue prior to HoT or the issues with HoT itself.

But I continue to hope that not only will someone wizen up but realize your punishing your gamers. We played Guildwars because we liked the system your changes are terrible and we’d like you to put it back the way it was please. Thanks

I was wondering if their is anyway to turn off the PVP tournament information and updates about that particular aspect of the game. I personally don’t do it and could care less who wins. Thanks

My Suggestions for GW2

My opinions are similar to what you were saying.

WVW, Fractals and farming sucks. Players only do these things to get the crafting materials they need like Gift of Battle and precursor ingredients. Most of the players spend time farming. Either way the crafting of legendary items take 11 months simply because you get 7 Mystic Clovers in the legendary chest and you need 77 to craft a legendary assuming that you actually have all the mats.

I agree that Gliding should be immediately removed from Central Tyria and is pretty much useless as it was not part of the original game anyway. As a matter of fact many have asked the deves how to shut off the glider feature themselves through out the game. However do keep in mind that in my case I have done the storyline 9 times from beginning to end and really only push to get characters to World Bosses so I can sit around and just hit them.

Now HoT while some people seem to think HoT is the nicest thing since sliced bread I think it is the most horrible, lame expansion that Guildwars has done and I use to think Factions was in the original game. When it first came out I rushed to get through the storyline in 2 weeks and personally never want to go back or have anything to do with that system. I lost a lot of friends who felt that same way and still have not returned to Guildwars. The Mastery point system is absolutely ridiculous as in adding even more currencies types for us to have to collect (by the way this brings the number of currencies in the game to 35) . Many have begged Guildwars to drop the HoT expansion in its entirety and return to the traditional ways that we working and did not need to be messed around with. The game designers are no where near fixing the issues in the game and I feel that anther expansion will just be met with contempt as yet more currencies are added and yet more ridiculous maps.

Until Guildwars gets through the repetitive farming and realizing that we all don’t like to WVW or PVP so forcing us to do this for whatever reason will only make people not want to play – MANY do not care about killing fellow players off.

It seems that we have developed into a fashion crazed, game that is being forced to buy gems to be turned into gold to get anywhere in this game. And after repeating the same processes time and again it get s a little stupid to keep doing it. In killing off the dungeon system you stopped the content that PVE players were doing and one of the few ways that they actually got loot but you nerfed that. However if you get tired of doing that please use the approved Guildwars Gold Seller and but gems to be turned into gold through the system. You going to pay to do that as much as you would having a monthly hosting fee on some games but heck its what they want. I just smile and hope that the madness will stop.

I don’t see why the gold seller don’t just stop with the spam. I mean we already have an in house gold seller. Not certain if this is actually against ANETS policy but you only need to buy gems and convert them into gold. It very expensive considering but its the only legal (err Illegal?) way to do it?

I just saw the trailer for this new expansion and some of the detail notes about it and what its including etc. You know this all sounds great f you are into PVP. But not all GW2 players are into that setting. As a matter of fact I’m going to probably guess that folks are going to rush through the storyline and then sit around and wait for the next expansion. So far I am not seeing the solutions to the problems that are existing in the game that the devs are still not stopping or fixing and the community has been asking nicely. For example the Mastery point system is lame. Its a grind fest that brings us into more and more farming. Their is very little for the PVE folks to do apart from the old dungeons, fractals (which stink to find groups on the various levels), a legendary crafting system which is actually worse than it was originally (hint folks all you have to do to fix the original problem was to increase the drop rate for precursors or add world bosses for the precursors to drop like you did in the original gw2 game and adding more things to an economy that is so far gone from being useful its ridiculous (35 different currencies in the game) and why continue to force your players to do things that they have no interest in like WVW, fractals and PVP to earn things to get the better rewards that are necessary for things like legendary weapons and gear (your pushing your gamers away from even wanting to purchase new material for the game or playing because you are limiting that amount that they can do in the areas they like the most). From what I am read your setting yourself up for the same kind of loss to revenue that you got from HOT. Your loosing the support of the people that can afford to invest in the game and actually make it profitable. It just stands to state how far the developers have gone to destroy a game that was once at a pinnacle to be great over other games that have long histories. At this stage I am hoping that you are looking at what was working and keeping your gamers in their seats versus forcing gamers to do parts of the game that they really do not want to do. This all needs a big overhaul. And you really need to consider those players that like to play solo and those player that maybe in a small guild but cannot find support to do some of this – If necessary please bring back NPC heroes that we can claim at the beginning of large cities to run with. Thanks
