What would GW2 be like with trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The trinity was supposed to have been replaced by multiple varieties of builds, what we got is mass zerg therefore I can only conclude that the trinity was not only far superior but also gave me much more memorable and satisfying encounters.

I can remember amazing encounters in dungeons and raids from trinity games going back 10 years including GW1, but alas GW2 will be completely forgettable as it just does not provoke that sense of fear, danger and achievement.

Zerker nerfed, allow us to swap asc gear

Nobody cares about PvE where no one cares if youre exotic or ascended.

With this attitude, why should anyone care about your problem?

I think they stated it poorly, but I think they meant in pve no one cares in your armor is ascended or exotic whereas in wvw they do (I don’t know if that’s true, but I think it came off much more… Angry? Than they meant.) and thus pve players won’t care enough to complain about the change.

The forum is full of detailed threads stating that ascended is not required to do any game content at all, now it is a requirement to do WvW or PvP?

Cannot have the argument both ways, cannot be pro ascended saying stats don’t matter its such a small difference then complain when there is a much needed balance to stats that is such a small difference.

Anet are giving you choices without making Zerker redundant, again what is the problem?

It sounding like some folks want to dominate others with stats and gear to me.

Again, that’s why I prefaced it with saying I didn’t know how wvw heavy guilds and such view ascended gear. I was I simply saying that I think that was what they meant (they might be in a guild or group which requires it)

Sorry LittleLepton I was typing this before I saw your reply there mate. I am not singling you out there just generalizing.
And I agree with you there are now groups that require ascended which is one reason why I thought it was a terrible idea to implement it to begin with.

I am extremely excited, getting a new video card!
I already have a new MMO just cannot play till the card arrives.
Maybe I will check back when something is set in stone about what direction and format the game is going to be taking in the future, I really cannot stand investing much time here not knowing if its all to go to waste on some new level cap or gear power creep grind fest.
GW2 feels like a kick-starter to me right now, it’s totally lost direction and there is nothing but a big committee going on about what to do. Someone at Anet probably needs to man up and decide what the game will be right now, because once people start looking for other MMO’s they may well not ever come back.

I’m with OP, I am farming for my Ascended Gear (even weapons since I was taking a break when it was released) but I’m not really “enjoying” the game as I used to do…

Now, I log on and think “what am I farming today?”
Before the break, it was “what do I want to do today?”

You know, the idea of those Accound Bound Ascended Materials from various parts of the game (Champions, WvW/Dungeons, Bosses) is a great idea, but the part to spend hundreds of gold to level your crafting isn’t…

They could’ve just added more of it, or something more "adventure-sque " to it, but it’s just more grind grind grind.
Although I came back recently AND I have some new friends starting out might give me the push to keep playing, but I can say the interest/fun factor of playing clearly isn’t the same…

I have to agree with you Danicco, this is exactly how I am feeling when I log in now.
If DE’s rewarded more than champ trains, and the LS was actually fun maybe I would feel differently, unfortunately the need for gold / mats has overtaken the fun factor.

Not even sure what game GW2 is now.

I feel like I am being told that a spoon and a shovel are the same thing and digging a hole is the same experience using either just that the shovel is more convenient but gives you absolutely no advantage whatsoever.
Well in GW2 some buy the shovel the rest have to spoon and listen to people shoveling lies.
GW2 is P2W, some people denying it are getting really angry when the ones saying it’s P2W are just stating that the shovel is a shovel and is a massive advantage.
I’m not upset about it being P2W at all. It just is what it is.

Can Guild Wars 2 be considered Pay-to-Win?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mergi.1407

Any advantage you buy is paying to win, and many items in the gem shop give you an advantage, boosters, storage, gathering tools etc.

Cosmetic items are truly the only things I consider are not P2W, the other stuff gives you perks even if it simply means you farm better than I can with exactly the same gear set up because you bought the items to do it.

We cannot just say an advantage only counts when its against some pve or pvp encounter.

The winning part can mean many things, faster gathering, better drops, quicker killing, buying ascended mats and basically just an easier life in the game and for me that’s P2W.

Gold is king in GW2 and it can be purchased.

The players deserve to know what shape the game will take from this very moment up until an expansion is announced as its our time invested here.

The CDI is trying to achieve this collaboratively in a positive way but its weirdly retrospective.

Its as though GW2 should not have been released yet as we really are having a discussion about what the game should be before we play it.

In the mean time we are stuck bang in the middle of a game that has gone off on a tangent.

Essentially GW2 is a great game, but I feel like I am waiting for it to become something that it promised it already was.

What all this comes down to is Entitlement. Certain players feel entitled to the best stuff as soon as possible. So when there’s gated end game content, and the player really wants it right away, they’ll call it a “grind”.

Untrue and you’re just derailing this topic by even bringing this up.

How so? Everything I posted is true and based on facts. If you want something, you put effort into doing/getting it. You make the choice to grind because you want something, not because Anet forces you.

People are blind to the fact that when they when they suggest that Anet make something easier for them, it’s completely unfair to those who are willing to put in the time to do it themselves. If I can make the time to level my crafting discipline, to gather or buy the necessary mats, and to take the time to do make the daily “T7” Ascended refinements, why should another player be given a free pass to skip all that? What makes one player’s time more important than another’s?

There is no forced grind in this game. If you complain that you “must” grind, that means you’ve forced yourself to do so. Thus if you’re forcing yourself, you can’t complain, since it’s all your choice.

Penguin mate you may be taking this a bit literally here, I think you are equating ‘forced’ to people actually really wanting to do the content. And they want to do it for fun! And have fun doing it!
Nobody is forced to do anything at all, even log in, yourself included, but we do want to do the content because – ‘drum roll’ it is there! No other reason is needed.
And if that content is a massive crazy grind then we can hardly call that fun or even a game anymore.
So you are right that nobody is technically forced, but I think your use of the word forced is incorrect.
When their is only one path to a destination then that is the path you are forced to take to get there. Do you see the difference?
What people are saying when they complain about grind is that they want alternative paths to the same goal that suit their individual play style.

Grind, and more grind.

What all this comes down to is Entitlement. Certain players feel entitled to the best stuff as soon as possible. So when there’s gated end game content, and the player really wants it right away, they’ll call it a “grind”.

Guild Wars 2, to this day, still holds true to their Manifesto. Anet didn’t make a grindy game, but that doesn’t mean they left out the grind completely. You can play this game any way you want, and still have access to the same content, same story. The grind is there if you choose.

One huge mistake these complainers are making is that they feel they can’t live without Ascended gear. In their minds, they’ve convinced themselves that in order to be good at this game, you have to have the best gear. This is completely untrue. You can have max weapons, armor, and all trinkets and accessories, and still lose to another player clad in all Rare level gear. Skill will always hold more weight than gear.

Please note the following: BiS gear should be a goal, not a requirement. If you feel it’s a requirement, then that means you’ve forced the grind upon yourself.

Entitlement has nothing to do with the absurd drop rate for core crafting materials.

I miss the days of bots, when crafting materials could be bought at a decent price. Removal of bots from the game was the single worst thing to happen to the TP.

Agreed hehehe, would it be wrong to demand them back even after having reported so many. I would even send a person letter of apology to each one. I’m not sure how long that thread would last!

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

Horizontal Progression
My wish list:
I would love to see different talent builds really mean something in the game, add flavor and variety instead of zerg 101 insert dodge here’s your cookie builds.
I want to be able to explore and play with all of the styles, and types of armor stats and get into theory crafting.
I want to be able to use the skills I like, and make combinations that suit me rather than be locked into strict weapon sets and lame elite skills.
I want to be able to buy with currency tokens of any denomination things like more skills and even perhaps skills from other professions.
I want less grind, I want to experience the facets of talent builds and armor types without massive grinding.
If I have to farm lets say for example a T6 mat, then it should kitten well drop off the mob its supposed period! No exception! No DR ever!!!! Reward for effort and time spent!!
Kill the RNG or tone it down, it’s terrible and just demoralizes you, give me some certainty that if I do x then I get y.
Make the mats drop in specific maps to specific mobs, lets get everyone back into the world.
I want to be able to re do hearts if I feel like it.
If we remove the relentless grind maybe just maybe we can get back to experiencing the DE’s and LS, put the rewards back into playing the game content.
Make the DE’s and LS and other events drop BIS gear, I mean at least people can say hey I did a really cool event for my gear item instead of I farmed like a mindless zombie and I seriously want to take a bath with a toaster now instead of do that again.
Let me craft cool looking armor skins! And weapon skins.
Give me the ability to have multiple talent specs that I can hot swap, encourage us to use and customize our characters and make it enjoyable to do so.
Again move away from grind intensive activities, by all means make us work but don’t make this a job instead of a game.
Make it all mean something, why should doing the champ train mean more for my characters progression than my story or DE’s or LS for example ?
Tie some of the cash shop items to different charities – buy this Xmas outfit and 20% goes to kids in need somewhere for example.

Vertical Progression
I’m not liking the associated grind fest to progress in this fashion and this has already been spoken about extensively by many others so not much for me to add on this topic except I don’t like it in the manner it has been implemented.

I think if you read this thread, caiomacos, you’ll notice that your so called gear treadmill is far from mandatory. Whatever their reasons, many players are choosing not to make any ascended gear, or only to do so for one or two characters. At any rate, I think ANet has indeed caught on that raising the level cap or adding further gear progression would be a disaster. I highly doubt they’ll do it again. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/How-many-Chars-will-you-gear-w-ascended/first

In a strict sense, nothing in the game is mandatory. Devs cant force players to do anything. People could play naked or on whites if they choose so. But thats completely changing the sense in which I used the word “mandatory”.

If you read the topic you linked, you will realise that most people will not make ascended not because they dont want ascended (in fact, they do – mostly to play on an even field than anything else), but because they dont wanna go through the huge ammount of grind required to get them. They have, you know, lives outside the game; and their time is better spent doing something else. GW2 is a game, not a job. People are supposed to have fun on it, not feel forced into some content they dont like just so they can enjoy the content that pleases them on its full extent.

Going back to the use of the word “mandatory”, anything that provides statiscal advantage is a mandatory progression. Sure, people could choose to play at a disadvantage, but the way I see it if you are forced to grind just so you can play at the same conditions as any other player, its a mandatory grind.

Amen.

Crowd Trains

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mergi.1407

The zerg train only exists for those riding it, there is no game mechanic or event that entitles individuals or a group exclusive use of content period.
I enjoy doing the zerg train occasionally for daily and monthly achievements but I also support openly in map chat other players rights to do as they please even if they are deliberately trying to derail the train.
The way I see it the very people that want to keep the train running will ultimately be responsible for its own demise if they do not adjust their thinking and behaviour towards others.
I would rather be able to do dynamic events in a live and populated world instead of a train, zerg or dungeon path grinding however that is a whole different topic of game design and implementation.

in Suggestions

mergi.1407

I would like the ability to create gear sets linked with trait sets for on the fly easy management of my character.

For example:

I am wearing my “DPS” set but require some more toughness for my next objective -
I select my previously assigned gear set in this case I will name “HTFU” and lo and behold 4 of my items are changed over and off I go.

No more digging through my bags trying to remember what combination of 20 items I am supposed to use for each occasion.

BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE !

Now that I have got my “HTFU” set equipped I am now using traits II, VII and X so that my mace and shied skills are optimized etc etc.

Conveniently the items I changed out have placed themselves into my pre-designated inventory slots so they do not get accidentally sold or salvaged.

This would bring some synergy to character management, we achieve the same outcome but currently it is a laborious and cumbersome task.

This feels like a big stealth nerf or just a plain screw up as we were missing what I would call important information in the update details regarding this and other changes coupled with what you might call erratic turret behaviour.
