Well i agree with the OP. Doing the open world i want to relax and have fun. The difficulty of the mobs in the LS4 maps were spot on. The HoT maps feels very annoying to explore when You have packs of million mobs that 2 hit You every 2 meters. Yes i am a casual player, You hardcores have Your hard content on raids, leave the open world to casuals
I just log in to the game and wander through maps just to listen this piece of masterpiece!
And the soundtrack of the last mission. Just can’t handle it it is sooooooo gooood for my ears! Just wish there was a cd soundtrack available in Poland or anywhere
I would say, 8/10.
Some mobs are just annoying, not challenging + ofc “Group hero points” + contested waypoints (Since release
) are the most annoying things in this game. Other than that i enjoy the new expansion.
Hey,
On Yesterdays POI Maclaine Diemer, Lena Chappelle (sound designers) and Rubi were talking about music in HoT. There was an interesting info that Maclaine shared there, the new combat music system, link below
https://youtu.be/ZhNniaeirq4?t=44m12s
From the sound of it, i think this might turn out very well. In many games, when You enter a combat, the game plays the same song everytime regardless of the combat “status”. The new system for GW2 designed by Maclaine and folks from sound department may be a very great step forward.
As we have beta right now, have You noticed anything of that? Like music flows and changes depends on intensity of the fight etc?
I put it here, because this kind of info is very nice and not everyone follows POI series
Also i want to thank Maclaine, Lena and all people behind the music in HoT, because so far soundtrack is fantastic and we all probably know, that music is extremly important for games. When did right it can intensify the experience, like squeezing more tears from emotional moments or pump the adrenaline during fights. In games i just like to stop for a while, enjoy the views and sounds around me (my avatar
).

Tbh, spells are so cluster kitten that sometimes in zerg i can’t see kitten on the ground and i sometimes die to it since it has pretty high dmg
Check movies from Gamescom 2010 and 2011, there used to be over 600 hearts
think of it this way…. say you have a rich uncle, who provides you with your housing and college funds to get you thru college…. you tell him that you want to study art, theatre, musical arts as your major. The rich uncle says “thats fine, but I will only give you 1/10th of the money I was going to give you unless you study Business management, accounting, Math, Economics,” you say to him “I cant afford to go to this college without that money though”, Uncle says “Then We will be seeing you as the new intern at the company I own then in the fall…” You say “ok” , but dont tell your friends as you are to embarassed to admit that your uncle owns you liek a kitten…
This is how I see their relationship. While Anet has some freedom to study and do what it wants, the purse strings still belong to NCSoft who might also own certian software licenses and copyrights etc, to make life very hard if they choose to…. You are smart enuff to figure out the rest from here I think!
That’s why i prefer CD Projekt RED approach. Start small, but end big
. With Witcher 3 they invested basically all their money, but the work from the ground over they years payed them twice
.
Self publishing is a great thing. You are not constraint in design decisions, but on the other hand, You are constraint by the money
.
(edited by nehezbegar.1065)
I think how will it affect a development of GW2 in the future. Actually has NCSoft ever had any decision makin power over GW2?
I don’t think so, at least none we are aware of. I remember quotes from devs saying NCSOFT let them get on with things and they felt quite lucky to have a company who wasn’t as intrusive as many publishers.
The Cantha situation might be an exception mind you, but Im sketchy on the facts surrounding that
Soooo, does this situation mean…Cantha as next expansion?
I think how will it affect a development of GW2 in the future. Actually has NCSoft ever had any decision makin power over GW2?
Well i helped plenty of f2p players since morning today. I haven’t experienced any troll activity or gold sellers. So the devil is not that bad like some described (me included).
Yes i was worried yesterday and on friday when ign failed to hide the secret, but after learning the restrictions and first few hours of experience i am now sure that in the long run, this decision will be positive for us players and arena net.
We get more players and arena get more potential customers. Even 3 of my real life friends declared that they will try the game now, finally after 3 years. They refused to buy the game before trying it out (they missed out trial weekends due to work). So now they can play during week without rushing and eventually they will buy HoT and play with me. It is win/win for me and ArenaNet
Also the response from community INGAME is outstanding, vets welcoming new f2p players, a lot of info on /map chat about the game from veteran players describing the game mechanics etc. . No doubt GW2 has one of the best communities INGAME (i don’t count forums
). I have never experienced any of that in any other game after transition from p2p/b2p to f2p (well GW2 is not fully changing to fp2, but You know what i mean).
It is warming my heart and i am glad, that i am a part of that communty. You rock ppl.
Tbh, we will have to wait a couple of weeks before we know how big negative/positive impact that decision had. Just be patient, then we will whine or praise
kitten is happening right now! Long time no see old friends just log in to the game!
I thought it would be around december, but this is actually a great info. Now the hype train should be back on track soon
Kitten YEAH~!!!! Finally the wait is almost over!
The restrictions were datamined by the almighty that_shaman long ago.
Only one or two character slots
Limit of level 15
Seems like a limit on how high a “rank” you can get (specific to trial or possibly PvP related)
Only able to send mail to friends.
Can’t send items or gold through mail
Can’t speak in map chat
Can’t access Team Arenas
Can’t access main WvW maps (EB and Borderlands)
Can’t sell items on TP.
http://thatshaman.blogspot.com.es/2014/07/upcoming-features-from-entanglement.html
Like we’ve said a lot in this thread, these do not gel with what’s said in the leaked trailer, and that datamine is from over a year ago. It’s not necessarily relevant.
It does, however, show that ArenaNet is aware that restrictions need to exist to protect the game’s economy.
Yes, they do match up with what is in the trailer. The only thing people can point to is WvW, yet the files Thatshaman datamined was restrictions on the borderlands and EB. Guess what, EOTM is still WvW. Not to mention all those things are in the game files still.
A lot of stuff are still in the game files. GW2 was built in a way that content is usually just added over others, nothing or barely nothing is removed. (Yes, you can still find stuff from releases from years ago [like Labyrintine Cliff map assets, per example] in the game files and those aren’t even valid or available anymore). Then, stuff still existing in games files doesn’t really mean they are still valid.
“Experience limitless adventure” from the trailer does not mean “untill lvl 15”
People are going to be demanding compensation for this too? You don’t need any kitten compensation.
Yeah not looking forward to the whine walls about people feeling they “deserve” compensation for buying and playing a game for 1-3 years. However it will happen sadly.
I wondering if we gonna see that huge backlash, like whe had when ANet announced HoT.
More players = more potential gem sales.
And tons and tons fo problems for exisitng players. I defended ArenaNet when they included free core game with HoT. But this f2p nonsense (if its going full f2p) is not defendable, sorry.
http://thatshaman.blogspot.ca/2014/07/upcoming-features-from-entanglement.html
As you can see, this is NOT F2P.
This post is from one year ago.
I have never said that in any game forum i played in the past, but….
If GW2 goes full f2p on core game, i am really thinking about quitting the game.
Well i don’t want to take away the money and new players from ArenaNet, but i also don’t want to deal with toxic community. And we ALL know, that f2p games are source of evill and toxic community, thats why i dont play f2p games.

DId i say he is wrong? I just don’t agree and vocal my opinion. -.-’
You do realize you’ve nullified your own opinion with your very own argument, right? Since, you know, you’re now also part of that minor, vocal, and complaining on the forum crowd now . . . right?
I hope you see the irony in what you’re saying.
But the difference is, i go to work now and won’t visit this forum till the next expansion like some ppl here
. So if You have any stuff to say to me, do it ingame

Well if you are telling me that he is not wrong, I guess that makes you wrong.
You are right, he is wrong.
Bought the Ultimate edition and will probably get it for my other accounts as well. I’m fine with it plus I get to participate in all the beta events from now until release. Please don’t tell me how to spend my money as I won’t tell you how to spend yours.
And what if it turns out that you don’t feel the expansion was worth it or up to par? You just got screwed out of 50+ bucks. I’m not trying to tell you that you can’t buy something, I’m telling you that buying something based off of carefully selected gameplay segments and demos is a bad idea.
It is his money and his problem.

The ppl who complain on the forums are 1% of the playerbase, so who cares
. I won’t miss them.
If they stop playing it will be healthier for the community and maybe new, fresh blood will complain less with this expansion.
I remember a similar argument on the City of Heroes and Warhammer Online boards. I hope I don’t have to point out the irony in their past and your current opinion. Sincerely.
Agreed that was just a stupid thing to say. Reeks of blind fanboy crap. If this is really the price for the little crap they are adding i won’t be giving them my money. I’LL use it to buy Fallout 4.
Who cares about fanboys or haters? You will buy Fallout 4, I bought HoT and will buy Fallout 4. Do we really need to elaborate on this fanboy, hater nonsense? As i said in another post, this whole drama is childish for me.
When You see overpriced item on the market You don’t go to the manager and fuss with him that he should lower the price, You just don’t buy that item (i mean, i think normal people would do that)….

I don’t remember that argument. In every game, the ppl who complain on the forums about EVERYTHING are like 1-2% of the total player base, while the rest of the gamers enjoy the game or uninstall it. Those games were just bad, thats it
You need to statistics better. Yes, in every game the people who complain on the forums might constitute 1% of the player base. However, the people who defend/white knight on the forums ALSO constitute 1% of the player base. These two sides on forums REPRESENT 100% of the player base as a whole, and fairly accurate metrics can be created solely from forum posts. Otherwise, games companies wouldn’t bother with them.
And its not just smaller titles like Warhammer or CoH. It also happened to SWTOR, which went from a WoW style subscription fee to Free to Play precisely because the game was poorly designed, overcharged for everything, and the player base left in droves relatively shortly after release. And this from the same guys who made KOTOR, Mass Effect, Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, etc. SWTOR IIRC is the most expensive MMO created to date.
Forum opinion is one of the BEST litmus tests for a game’s health, when complaint threads start to dominate, the developers should recognize it as a potential major issue.
I don’t agree.
Normal players just play the game, or uninstall it and they don’t effin care about forums.
Like me, i have like 10 posts on forums since 3 years, since i don’t feel i need to post sth. Just came today since it is a HoT prepurchase day and saw this drama on forums

Well, the character slot for standard edition would be nice, since we get new profession, but who cares.
Vote with Your wallet, if You think 50$ is a ripoff just don’t buy it, get over it and stop moaning.
If You think it is a fair price, buy and enjoy the HoT when released.
End of story for me.
We’re doing them a favor by telling them in advance how we’ll vote.
Well for me it is childish. When i see sth on market that i feel is overpriced, i don’t go to the market manager and shout at him how he ripoffs ppl…i just don’t buy that item…

In general this was just a poor time to release this rediculously overpriced content. for $50 i could go buy like 10 games on the steam sale and get 10x the content.
1. Skyrim $9.99 (300 hours of content)
2. Boarderlands 2 $9.99 (31 hours of content)
3. Oblivion $9.99 (+200 hours of content)so there is $30 and over 500 hours of content, i just saved you $20 and gave you 3 of the best games ever released!
see my point
Tell me their price at release, all of them 60$, so this argument is stupid.
I bought Deluxe Edition and i am happy!

This drama will probably last months before release, about how the price of this expansion is the ripoff to “veteran” players.
I hope ArenaNet for peace sake will just throw this character expansion slot to standard edition so moaners will just shut up, so we can get over that drama and proceed further in complaints about how this game sucks and have no endgame

- Started playing MMO’s 10 years ago
- Started my MMO journey with World of Warcraft.
- Haven’t played GW1 from the start,
- Completly fallen in love with Guild Wars 2, it is not perfect, but perfection is boring.
- I work even in my free time, between hanging out with friends and trainings, im coding a lot of software, have tons of ideas inside my head and i love to play a god role while programming
- Wanted to work in gaming industry, but i somehow landed in bussiness software and i can’t complain

- Favorite color is black
- Playing GW2 since the launch, and i still haven’t obtained legendary.
- I play games for fun, not to rise my e-peeeen

- Currently looking for guild on Far Shiverpeaks.
- I’d love to go on a journey around the world sometime in the future.
What are you guys even talking about? Did you play ANY game that had a decent story?
The Storytelling in this LS isnt even acceptable anymore: 98% of the story is delivered through boring dialogue and text, what absolutly kills the tension, the charakters are generic at best and have no depth whatsoever. The death of majories sister was just a joke.We didnt know anything about her, why should we care that she is dead? The game tried to make us feel with majory and failed completly doing so.
And to get the achievments, we have to repeat the story! This is the worst content recycling mechanic I have seen in years…
The update sshowed once again that A-net is incapable of delivering a story
They have created a great mmo, but the living story is disappointing at best!
I have never played an MMO with a decent story and i played a lot of them
A-Net is average in that department
Bigger, i estimate its 2x bigger than initial…i mean it is still the same map but they unlocked more places

Though my graphic card cries
, amd 7970 100% usage almost 70Celcius on it, but its worth to stress it for those visuals
Chickenado FTW!
The visuals, vistas etc in this place is so effin amaizing i just can’t stand!
I love it <3 !
You can say anything about Guild Wars 2, but even haters have to admit that visuals in this game are one of the best and ArenaNet has, in my opinion, the best artists in the industry. This patch only proves that, period!
I like the new sand storm effect, also moving sands is a nice touch
I confirm, it works now
Ye i have the same problem, bought gem prepaid and i can’t redeem it, cuz after clicking the button nothing happens
Compact inventory on my guardian does now work (it works on every other character) this is a prove
14 second
I bought new bags, wore them and puff, it does not work. I tried to wear them off and wear again, still didn’t help.
It is the matter of taste. For instance, i don’t find WoW zones atmospheric at all, but as we talk about games i really like the feeling of The Witcher 2 zones (as we speak about games in general and not MMO only
)
Holy grind god! I don’t even have an ascended weapon, cuz of my lack of time to grind…im really happy for You. I don’t know when i will achieve my own ascended set or weapon, maybe in next year or so
In my opinion, the atmosphere is what GW2 does right. This game has one of the most beautiful crafted worlds in the game industry, considering their artstyle and how maps were built
NCSoft didn’t shut down GW1, and I can’t imagine it’s just raking in the money…so why would they shut down GW2 any time soon? It makes little sense to me.
That’s because of the tie-in with GW2 and probably ANet’s “special relationship” with NCSOFT (rumor is ANet has an escape clause that allows them to take the GW IP with them).
Well if that rumour is true, then ANet should do this immediately. In my opinion self publishing games is the best way to earn money and create a great game. You don’t have to watch on investors and publisher and do what they say. EA is a great example that publisher can ruin even great IP (Dragon Age 2, last Mass Effect etc). ArenaNet is big enough to do it for themselfs, they have strong fanbase after GW1 and now GW2 (well some of those fans from GW1 left but well, this group of ppl are still strong), so it is hardly to believe that ANet would not do it succesfuly.
Even if ANet says that they are independent and NCsoft does not say them what to do, it is hard to believe, at the end of the day its all about money
. Right now ANet can’t release GW2 in China, cuz NCsoft is working on release the B&S in China, so right now ANet is cut from their profits…
(edited by nehezbegar.1065)
ArenaNet test content before release and eliminate all safe spots that dumbs down boss, because all Your efforts designing the boss goes to hell.
For me randoms can leave the tequatl, that would give the slots on map for organized guilds. For instance couple of guilds make an alliance and officers of those guilds discuss which guild cover which part of the encounter and they communicate between each other…right now it is impossible to get even couple of ppl from the guild cuz of overcrowded maps.
