To be honest- all MMOs are grindy…if you really don’t like grind then I suggest you look at other game types.

Lol. Been playing MMO’s for a loooong time. The difference between grinding and not grinding is the fun factor. If you are having fun then it isn’t a grind. HoT is all about the grind without any of the fun.

Fun is subjective.

Fun is subjective but the major gold sink and material sink in place is not.

anyways, being able to adapt is one thing but being able to identify problems is another.

While loyal fans are defending anet, loyal fans are also coming out and pointing out the issues with the design decisions. Anet should take notes of what going on in the forum as issue raised can be crucial for them to retain their player base. #justsaying

I agree OP. I think all the empty zones and endless complaints about HoT prove you are right.

The game isn’t about fun anymore.

of course, it is fun about transferring wealth from players to players or finding out what item is gonna be the next hot cakes on TP or parking alts with gathering tools at harvest points for maximum profit.

so fun.

Legendary precursor journey is a joke....[Merged]

The reason why they make the ‘challenge’ of legendaries rooted in riches rather than content is that they have a lot of pressure from their user base to ensure that legendaries are accessible to the whole community.

We see them breaking with this model for armor and backpacks, at least to start the collection, so it may be possible that in the future we’ll see more diverse legendary acquisition methods. Right now we have series 1 legendaries, which can be literally bought off the auction house, Series 2 legendaries which must be crafted, a backpack which requires fractals, and armor which requires raids.

We may see a future where series 3 weapons come from a raid, and series 2 armor and backpacks which are more crafting centric.

This is sad to hear because they should have made it accessible for those worthy to hold the legendary because they are skilful, good at their profession rather than being rich.

2nd gen legendary could have been their chance at changing the whole legendary is expensive stigma but it was a missed opportunity.

As for back piece and armour, I can see that they want people to play other game modes and it is… not unreasonable(for myself at least, I can adapt) but definitely a half step forward from the gold sink? (Not sure if it involves a ton of gold)

Yup just read that even the new legendaries cost almost the same or even more than the old ones…

Looks like fun is gated behind gold…

Before anyone else popping out and say legendary aren’t suppose to be cheap:

1. The precursor is account bound.
2. Crafting the legendary still need the new gifts which still need gold/time
3. Legendary != Expensive
Legendary == Achievement

However currently, when one mentioned legendary, people will go " wow, so rich"

Look at Liadri the concealing dark, that I consider an achievement (it took me countless tries to defeat her) and legendary crafting can consist of such achievements but nope, it comes with a pricey tag.

Imagine an epic journey where a hero/heroine is off seeking to craft his or her legendary but first, let them prepare their gold first… err okay… I would then imagine epic fights for the loots, or for the rare loots but nope, you need to carry a harvest axe and chop trees for days for the planks ~_~

There’s an artificial gate (RNG) on Precursors previously, and that kept the item rare.

There is a non RNG way of getting Precursors before crafting and it is called the TP and it quite accessible with just a click away.

While I agree to most of your points but it varies from players to players. In short, it means that player defines their own goal but the game sets up the rules in guiding the players to set up their own goal but all in all, it is almost always directed to farming gold.

Where do the precursors on the TP originate?

Completely misses the point but since you asked:

1) Random drop

2) Mystic forge (deliberate or unintentional)
3) Precursor crafting (as of HoT release)

3 would not end up on the TP, as they’re account bound. I don’t think it misses the point at all, my point is that any Pre you buy on the TP originated through RNG. While a buyer doesn’t have to directly deal with RNG to get a Pre on the TP, the price is regulated and dependent on RNG. Buying on the TP doesn’t circumvent RNG, it’s just a step removed.

still misses what OP is addressing. #3 is not account bound. They can be sold.

well, this is on Anet’s part to sort things out. We can all use a forge and its call the mystic forge. Should Anet crafted a system that can allow all professions to craft legendary with the mystic forge, it can solve the problem you mentioned.

Perhaps with related crafting profession unlocked can help fasten the legendary crafting if one is afraid that the crafting profession will be rendered useless prior to crafting using the mystic forge.

#just 2cents

And thats exactly what we do for legendarys, what we are talking about here is people useing the precursor recipes on chars with no or wrong crafts.

Yes, thats what I am saying, using the mystic forge to craft instead. As such, all can partake in the journey and with the relevant crafting profession, it can be easier/faster or mandatory to the process then people will want to lvl their crafting profession, etc.

I just find it funny that Anet decides to develop for the 1st gen precursor crafting to address the player’s demand for a non-rng way of procuring a precursor. There is already a method and it is call the TP. Making the process to have almost the same value as the TP is pretty much defeating the purpose itself.

Agree as well. The problem is 1st gen precursors have a market on the TP and Anet do not want to remove that market thus, came a crafting process akin to a shopping check list instead of a true journey (such a wasted opportunity).

I am waiting for the 2nd gen precursors “journey” to be out and if it is like the 1st gen’s, perhaps it is time to walk away because it is clear that Anet values economy more than thematic experiences.

In the larger picture irregardless whether the economy is a thriving one or not, this is something Anet should look at.

I’m not sure what people are talking about I’m making more gold than I ever did in HoT.

I used to constantly hover below 10-20g, now I can actually build up to 30g, spend it, and build up to 30g again. Doing the same things I always did.

Question, any of you dungeon farmers, have you EVER tried doing fractals?

You people have strange logic.

lol I don’t know what others are talking about anymore.

fyi, I do fractals. \o/

Anyhow, I believe the issue is that the economy instead of bring people together seems to create a disparity amongst 2 different groups of player base as mentioned by OP.

Anet need to look at their player eco balance and definitely having a strong sense of what they want in their game can totally avoid threads like this or if they really want all types of player base, they got some serious work to go through.

An MMO is about interacting with other players, trading with them is just that and Anet sees the trading post as an integral part of the game, they stated that many times.

If interacting with other players in various ways is not your cup of tea, maybe try solo rpgs.

do you even read ? -face palm-

You can say that trading is fun for you. It is okay because who am I to judge.
I can say that dungeon is fun for me. It is okay because who are you to judge.

Nvr did I mentioned anything about economy being bad nor did I say interaction is not my cup of tea but I will say maybe you can try economic focus games.

anyway, if it is Anet’s decision to make gw2 a TP-gold centric game whereby players will be wielding legendary greatsword of TP despite the wonderful lore, graphics, I can and I will walk away from Gw2. #justSaying

The Economy - Widening The Gap

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

nobleroar.2078

I think OP concern is that Guild Wars 2 is turning into Gold Wars 2.

Players who really play the game and not touching the TP will not earn as much as those who plays the TP solely. Unless that player spend a ton of time grinding gold or exchanging gems for gold.

(had a fren who solely plays the TP delicately and can afford a legendary after 2 weeks, he do not play PvE at all and now he already quit the game)

The incentive for the player base who sincerely want to play the game for its lore, feeling accomplished for building a legendary or what nots are neglected because of the emphasis importance of gold. I believe this is so because this is Anet’s way of monetization outside of the cosmetics options(gem to gold exchange)

Personally, I feel that the game is becoming more of an economics game, looking at the direction of decisions made by Anet such as Night Fury, precursor crafting, etc. Yes, it is an MMORPG whereby trading is or can be a big thing for player base but still, the amount of gold sink into TP is getting a bit ridiculous when player can never enjoy the content without having enough gold.

Before people mention about drops is there for those who plays the game and will eventually get it. But how long does a player have to endure the RNG before he/she can succumbs to the TP (e.g. 1st gen legendary – precursor RNG drop) ?

The only difference between me as a trader and the player who complains about me earning more gold through the trading post is that i list my items for a higher value on the tp and therefore get more gold in return.
If Average Joe sell his item to my buy order and I relist it undercutting by 1c, i make a profit. The same profit, that he could have gotten, would he have listed it for the same amount as me in the first place.

If he gets a endless bat tonic from one of the first t&t bags he opened this halloween and sells it for 50g to me, he could have listed it for 100g or 400g and it would have sold at the same time as mine would have sold.

What the difference between a trader that lists his wares for 300% over current market value and a farmer, who lists his wares for 300% of the current market value?

Actually the farmer/player, who earns the item has an advantage over the trader because he has dips on putting the first value on the item.

If he chooses to sell it for low value, its his choice and he has no right to complain, if someone else puts a higher value on it and another one agrees to that value in the future and pays it.

The economy isnt the problem, its your own personal choice that creates your own personal problem.

FYI, no one is interested in pseudo economywhatever and no one is complaining you earning more gold or whatsoever, player base like you exist and there is no denying to it. There is also no denying that OTHER player bases exist as well. Balancing an MMORPG is tough and OP, etc are merely addressing their opinions here.

The existence of an economy is not a problem neither do I even mention or even finding it a problem.

The problem is how the economy impact has over player base and I am just primarily pointing out what OP concern might lies.

Ps. keep your beer chilled.

Anet addressed the RNG “problem” which is kind of solved by TP by introducing these crafting quests.

Gold value of a legendary is supposingly already concluded by the gifts requirement in order to craft one such as gift of fortune. However, there exist the TP and there are precursors listed on it and this ties Anet’s hands from introducing a precursor crafting that does not include gold or massive amount of matt sink.

Kinda sad.

Precursor Crafting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nobleroar.2078

nobleroar.2078

Warning: long post because i just have to let it out. -not a rant post maybe just a little-

I wont disagree that the process should not be a grind. However, the grind should be FUN! I bought HoT hopefully to have something to do (bunch of quests to venture on) and so when the HoT hits, I unlocked precursor mastery and was really excited about it until i read a post on reddit that the cost is going to higher or abit lesser than the listed price on TP and i just felt so disappointed.

the first tier of the crafting is the best in my own opinion. (at least coming from an explorer-achiever type of gamer)

I don’t understand why not instead have the precursor crafted be account bound, I won’t mind expanding the recipe to be longer, I won’t mind RNG involved, just leave MASSIVE gold sink out since gift of fortune is involved anyways and not to mentioned the other gifts.

If Anet is afraid that everyone is going to rush thru’ the crafting anyways and eventually get everything but isn’t creating the weapons allowing players to get it in the first place?

  • 1) I would time-gate the kitten out of crafting at least, we have 20 1st gen legendaries – make it at least 2 weeks to get a precursor crafted and we can break down the time required for the components to craft, etc, smthg like that. In all honesty, as long as I am making progress, I would not mind the time-gate for the precursor (smthg legendary)
  • 2) Go ahead and make a RNG drop item in the dungeons. Since its there already, I do not understand why the decision to “kill off” dungeon. This can at least get players to do dungeons and the scene is not entirely dead or near-dead on LFG.
  • 3) warning strong language I would argue that to hell with the TP gold flippers with wings. Not to mention that the 1st-gens have been around for a long while and some really rich minority are already owning every one of it. Worried that the market will crash? Maybe you can allow precursor to be salvaged in easing the building of legendary armour. (so this will allow those ppl who already own all legendaries to do the quests?)

tl;rt : i really like the designer’s job on the 1st tier collection whereby everything is so thematically aligned and its really fun! Hopefully, the entire process can be somewhat similar to the 1st tier collection only, wont mind a fair bit of gold sink but not too much. The materials can be for example making players going around Tyria searching for a suitable kind of wood to craft the legend and in order to do so, players have to harvest all around Tyria. (maybe item unlock upon harvesting the 20th wood per map, if a map is checked, player move on to the next, so there’s RNG involved and player can go either “YAY im lucky” or “kitten I really have to go all the way to the last map for this.”) at the end of the day, it can be memorable/legendary.

just my 2cents.

3) The frog at that HP that says "You are not worthy! " gave me so much feelz, I love/hate it. (after numerous attempts of gliding into that platform…)

all in all, why lock all the fun away when one plays the game to have fun. If it is the sense of achievement that Anet is seeking, shouldnt that be based on how well the player manages his/her profession?

Elite Specializations are a Waste of Time

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’m personally loving it. I’m glad that I finally have something to work towards in this game.
Not to mention, the elite spec unlocks ridiculously quick. The game has been out for a weekend, and I know a few people who have already completely unlocked it. If you completed the base game, you already have the spec halfway unlocked. If you’re new to the game, it makes sense to play the base game first before moving onto the x-pack. Also, it’s not as if the hero points in the base game were hard to get.
As for the hero points in the expansion pack, some of the champs are definitely solo-able. Some are not. I agree that the time limits are bogus, and they should be scaled better overall, as there is a wide range of player skill in this game.

As for people saying that, “forcing people to play a base class before unlocking the elite spec is ridiculous,” where is this mentality founded? Plenty of games have profession/class unlocks that come from playing a base class. Pretty much every Final Fantasy game follows this formula, as well as several other MMOs. This is not some new trick that ANET threw out onto the playing field for the sole purpose of gating character progress. It’s an upgrade. Work towards it and unlock it.

I agree however I personally feel that the unlocking is gated behind a grind of HP/masteries and it unlocks bit by bit and that’s what truely ticks people off as compared to Final Fantasy’s questing and ding, you can unlock the whole package and then proceed to gearing it up.

As a rev, even with base class unlocked, it will suffer a setback when equipped with Glint legend and not all skills unlocked because a rev cannot switch skills on utility slots unlike other classses…. and this is just one example that things can better designed.

How would you rate the HoT Fun Factor?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

nobleroar.2078

Boy oh boy I’ve never seen so much cry babys. So what a lot of you saying is: We wanna play an MMO, we buy an MMO, but we don’t like this game to be so much MMO’ish… Maybe a lot of you forget that masteries are acount wide? So when you have them all unlocked you don’t have to do it anymore on other characters, never again… After that you may come back here to cry about how you all have nothing to do etc… Common guys, enjoy the game, or go play some other crap game like WOW… -.-

Okay, now here is my comment/rating:

10/10. There is no better MMO then GW2… Period…

(I’m not even starting on those sour people who wanted their elite spec on log-in).

Ouchy, you are really not brightest bulb in the room, aren’t you.

GEE DUB TUU BEST GAEM EVAR U HATERZ SUX
these are the people that need to stop riding anets kitten and actually look at the game from a critics point of view.

We are. After getting all the hero points required to get Berserker on my main last night without actively going for said points, I think it is an acceptable time investment, especially since said masteries I earned while doing so help speed up future HP runs.

There are a lot of complainers not giving constructive feedback other than ‘WANT IT RIGHT NOW’. How do you go months without expecting some effort to be put into getting the Specializations for your characters?

And here I thought Elitists were the worst thing to run into GW2.

I think most of them are just having difficulties expressing themselves or rather they only know how to QQ.

But I will just take reference to FF14 because it is one of the most well designed MMO I ever played. Job advancement is done usually thru’ questing/storyline and then ding, you advanced, then you proceed to learning skills/gearing your toon which can take quite a number of hours but still acceptable because the progression is linear.

However, what HoT had is something not of a norm which is getting hero points and for some of those points in the jungle are locked behind mastery and to level up mastery is yet another grind, progression is hindered by another progression. Not a very popular mechanic here. (at least based from the raging forum threaders).

I don’t hate HoT but I am a tad disappointed with the design choices. If the intention is for players to unlock elite spec while in the jungle, I think it would be better that the acquisition of traits to be more direct (i.e. reward from an event) so player will really roam around, have a couple of traits behind another progression but just make sure the progression does not require a tonnes of exp gain to unlock. (balance ~) and not collecting points to unlock….. :/

agreed.

Feels like Anet giving us a collecking kick in the balls, hyping up elite specialisations, then locking them behind a massive grind.

The absolutely worst decision they could have made on this matter.

Did they learn nothing from the trait lock debacle they did last year…..

agreed^

I dont quite understand Anet’s design philosophy :/
why do they like to hide the fun stuffs behind grind.

I don’t mind having grind for the Jungle masteries but still, they can at least consider letting Tyrian Mastery to be available for the already 80s so there’s a bit of perks to hit 80 and able to own that pact cmdr abilities (we alrdy defeated zhaitan so long ago) and if we are bored of grinding in the jungle, we have precursor crafting or fractals to digress… but nope, everything is locked away ~____~

abt elite spec, I felt that it can be designed better, i.e. completing story or running around the Jungle doing specific events to unlock the traits, stuffs like that ~

but anyways, d/d ele’s disengage mechanic is something revenant can never replicate… (RtL plus Lightning Flash plus Burning Speed / Fiery greatsword(#spin away) )

Runes of rage vs runes of strength

in Revenant

Posted by: nobleroar.2078

nobleroar.2078

ideal group = scholar

solo = strength

average group = rage

bad group = strength

this^ exactly and to add from some thread aeons ago,

“at 2k power, 100% crit chance and 200% crit damage, 1% increased damage = 20 power OR 30 ferocity. Increase power until you hit 3k, at which point 1 power =1 ferocity in terms of damage.”

so its to summarise, it means that boosting power is better when you are under 3k power, ferocity shines above 3k power.

use rage runes and with 25 stack of might(3k power above) => optimal set up

  • not sure if the maths still stands and if it is valid because it is so long ago but yeap, mightybird nailed it in terms of how to choose which rune you want to run.

sidetrack
Srsly, dont feed those QQ trolls. No idea why they cant even post anything constructive for the OP.

back to topic
For OP:

for builds, you can try refer to this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/revenant/Revenant-builds

for more information about revenant and its mechanics:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Revenant

As for armour and sigil setup, it is still debatable as raid content might require players not to go full berserker.

Feel free to dig around, even though our forum board is filled with useless QQ threads but some constructive threads are still there, just need to filter those out.

It’s 3900 health over 3 seconds. It’s not a reset button.

Let’s try not to exaggerate in this supposedly, ‘Objective’ discussion.

I personally found crystal hibernation very underwhelming. It really decimated my offensive momentum and anyone who isn’t part-orangutan can figure out how to take advantage of a 3 second downtime if they don’t have unblockables.

Let the trait proc, then cast shield 5. Bam, over 7000 hp. Now cast either of your heals and you’re back at a hefty amount of hp.

He has a point…But rain that really depends on how well you do without using shield 5. If you use it before the trait then, it isnt really a game changer on its own.

On a 20s CD, trust me, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to use it.

Don’t forget about energy restrictions shall we? it cost 20 energy and all skills on Rev other than auto attack cost energy. I shall not dwell into the maths but Rev starts off a fight with 50 energy, a glint legend equipped Rev still has upkeep energy to maintain.

The skill roots you for 3s and conditions passes through… Poison will decrease healing by 33% and I cannot imagine one who really want to spam this skill.

lol we cant keep referring to that video, the Rev did not have a clue what he/she was doing, was panicking all over the place. Not entirely sure why the necro posted it. Might as well have posted killing an uplevel.

and so, my spoiler was spot on.

Why not? OP can be the clueless player and comparing his experience with a good Rev thus this thread but we will never know.
Bottomline is UA was involved and its a 1v1 for reference.
Sounds unfair? exactly.

For more info about Crystal Hibernation or how to counter it :

there are some tips on how to down play that skill.

I did some more testing before the BWE ended on Sunday and found a Warrior build that can actually counter the Herald Sword/Shield Shiro/Glint set. It requires the dual endure pain, balanced stance, shield axe/gs setup. However, I still can’t say Revenant needs some attention though as despite the warrior playing nearly perfectly, I made a TON of mistakes, was half asleep and only lost due to my UA bouncing off two other targets that were watching the fight two separate times. Even then the battle dragged on forever as I was able to reset the fight using the staff block, block trait and shield 5.

I almost do want to say that maybe UA and shield are in the right spot because that warrior did give me a run for me money… but I fought two other warriors, one running signets with the power signet for unblockable attacks (which can hit through the shield 5) and one running hammer,gs with the dual endure pain and balanced stance traits and despite losing to the former thanks to his attacks being unblockable, once I got the hang of how to fight him, I really started tearing him apart with Herald. The Hammer/GS Warrior on the other hand got decimated. At one point, I won with 90% hp.

However, that’s warriors. Endure Pain plus blocks make them a fair matchup against Revenant. How did I fare against other classes? Well, Thieves can pretty much get one shotted by UA combined with Enchanted Daggers. I actually did manage to achieve this by pressuring one to dodge twice with Jade Winds and AA, then UA’d and he went down to about 5% with that single one then died shortly after to Staff AA stealth cleave.

It’s hard to say definitively but I still think the sword/shield set is just a TAD bit too strong.
Maybe if the shield trait got a slight icd increase or something, idk. But if you’re not running unblockable attacks or condi bombed the hell out of the Revenant, you’re gonna be stuck with a loooong and annoying fight. Similar to Chronomancer which can survive for an eternity while putting a ton of pressure thanks to the tools they have.

The game is not balanced to 1v1. Your point is invalid.

Oh then I guess those changes to D/D ele spec were just because Anet hates eles and not because it was a huge uphill battle trying to get an ele off point with less than 2 people.

Either way, whether it should be adjusted for 1v1’s or not, do you really want to play a class that’s so strong in 1v1 that every time you do engage in a duel and win, you know it’s because the class dominates in that scenario? Or would you rather win because you know you’re good at the class?

FYI, UA is designed to be strong for 1v1(its attack dmg gets lesser with more targets) and so I suppose your thread is totally uncalled for because you are asking simply asking the game designer to change a skill based on the “testings” you personally done and dislike while almost entire rest of the Rev community is telling you that it is fine as it is as of BWE3.

P.S watch the necro vid,
spoiler 01: he has a build that beat a Rev using UA 1 on 1 too (whoaa~)
spoiler 02: he knows how to time his dodge (whoaa whoaa~~)
spoiler 03: I won’t argue that the Rev has no idea what he is doing (whoaaaaa~)

/end of conversation.

^that’s not the point. hes saying UA gives rev another invuln. it allows the rev to dps, bait cd’s/endurance, and just tank a huge amount of damage.

It is a game of CD management afterall, baiting etc is all part of the game. It is all about management, so learn how to manage it.

A good rev can do wonders, yes and it is the same to all other classes. I can win a mesmer as a thief and successfully interrupted all her skill cast with pistol#4. So is thief really OP? no cause we all know how thief got nerfed to oblivion.

FYI, UA alrdy got a CD increase prior to BWE3 and to be frank, it did impact rev to a certain extend. Rev are already finding themselves auto-attacking most of the time due to energy restriction.

Invulnerable, dps… yes but you do have the chance to mitigate them. (dodge, block, evade, invul, etc)

Shield being forgiving? maybe but a bursty Rev is squishy as hell and not to mention if they used Shield#5, it roots them, cost 20 energy. A Rev starts a fight with 50 energy, if spec-ed into Glint, they even need to maintain upkeeps that saps energy.

UA cost 15 energy. Swapping legend gives 50 energy. So yup, have fun doing the maths.

REMINDER - Forum Code of Conduct

in Revenant

Posted by: nobleroar.2078

nobleroar.2078

Alright, I had enough of people simply posting and QQ-ing over how OP rev is without any constructive thoughts or suggestions or even proof and there are so many duplicated threads.

Personally I DO NOT wish rev forum to end up in a sorry state where posts are all balderdash.

so here’s a reminder for all, taken from Forum’s Code of Conduct:

1) Use the search function before posting. This will focus the discussion and facilitate a response. ( You can bunch tgt and QQ tgt, keep it tgt)

2) Stay on topic and create a new post for tangentially related topics.

3) Do not engage in staff call-outs.

4) Use a relevant thread title that clearly expresses the subject of the thread.

Come on guys, a bit of effortless effort can make a huge difference.

while ppl can complain about how OP rev is but one thing they always never mention is about energy management.

Revs can never spam skills and with skill cool down, it is even tougher for revs to spam skills.

some suggestions:

1. Learn to dodge
2. Use conditions

Also, use a relevant thread title that clearly expresses the subject of the thread. This is part of the forum’s Code of Conduct. Please kindly amend your topic title to reflect the subject discussion here.

[PvE build] DPS Booster Ranger

some 2cents:

Personally, I do not like Spirits for support primarily due to their immobility and there is a static 20secs cd for them. If your team moves fast, you will only be summoning those spirits a few times.

I suggest slotting something else for 1 of the spirit slot like SotW or Sic’ em for extra dmg.
Activated SotW gives 25% dmg boost and stability and its passive is pretty nifty too.
