The best healing in the game being available without using any healing power; this is not good for the game. The berserker meta not be the only consideration requires that other stat combinations be rewarding

Just remove the heal from 6th skill for all classes, you’ll have much more build diversity…

I think it’s because warhorn locks you into dagger or scepter. A lot of eles wanted a new mainhand, not a new offhand. Warhorn will always be limited because it locks you into the existing mainhand weapons.

And a new mainhand would lock you into dagger or focus offhand. I don’t see how it’s better that way.

Offhand can be used large range or close range, especially focus that brings you a lot of defensives skills.
They could have brought any distance weapon, it would have fit an option.

here warhorn is melee with long cast fields that wont fit pvp or wvw well. It doesnt change a lot the gameplay either.
Moreover, you ca’nt explode a lot, especially if you deleted arcana to take spec traitline.

A sword would have meant a very mobile weapon that could have done the same option as sword vs dagger for thief.

Your water 5 cleanses a condition every pulse. If you run the trait that cleanses a condition whenever regen is applied it will heal 2 conditions every pulse. That is huge for your frontline and even your necros.

yes, but since with pure of voice, guards got a nice amount of purges, making less necessary the 2 purges.
Depending of the number of eles you’ll prefer to use big water during repacks.

Not saying it’s not cool, but taking a whole traitline for that seem pretty… too much

Arcana
Arcana is quite cool, Elemental attenument, arcane fury and evasive arcana are great traits

Renewing stamina synergise well with EA.

Arcane shield is really usefull.

But every of this is mostly devensive.
Only exception is fury, but it doesnt work well with fire focused build.

I’ld say it’s less necessary than it use to be, and i can immagine playing without it, taking earth instead of arcana.


Air
A nice dps increase, but we have way more choses.
Since we have a sree spot if not using icebow, i’ld point the use of Glyph of elemental power
with fire we have 10% more damage on burning ppl.
One burn in 25 zerk might stacks hit 450 dps

The glyph has no CD, it’s a fun useof our tools, giving some damage adds.

A trick with this glyph it it doesn’t take into account the element you are, but only the element you were when you casted the glyph, so if you cast it in water, then go to fire, you’ll get a free chill chance on your crits

Not saying it’s THE solution, but it may be interesting to have a closer look at it.
The 5 sec CD is per target.

rest is increase crit chance or damage, i wont spend too much time on it since you know it well.

Our damage output is amazing now, going full dps allows us to 3 shoot a thief.
I could immagine going wihtout arcana, taking earth, but my main build is

Earth
I’ll compare to earth since both are defensive

_ Earth embrace helps, it’s good, not amazing but the breackstun helps surviving a burst and works Ok with final shielding

_ Geomancer Training… is sooo good, with stone earth you are virtually unkilable to a ranger. magnetic aura comes every 20 sec, it’s available freely when you go earth

_ stone earth feel cheated, you cant be killed by a FP while in earth
You divide by 3 the DPS

_ Passive 1: good with stone earth, you reduce incoming damage by 7% having this trait while in earth

_ Passive 2: a plus, kind of useless

_ Passive 3 : 10% less damage from close fellows, meaning thieves and mesmers, works when you are not in earth.

Comparaison conclusion
In earth almost everything feels usefull and non situational.
Swapping earth becomes a godmode, and your overall resistance is inceased.

In water it’s some OK traits, but it doesn’t take the comparaison.
A FP is going to kill you if you take water, no mater what.
You have better chances with earth.


FIre reflections:

Fire adds 150 power by a passive trait

Without fire you go for 9-12 mightstacks
With pyromancer puissance you go to 20-25

Means with a passive and a grandmaster trait you add
150+12*30= 486power

so if you compare to a 2597+30*10=2900 power of a non fire build stacked, you already have a 17% increase
A 10% more with pyromancer training with the reduction of you cds

And a 10% more on burning targets

Fire by itself is a 30%-40% dps incease, i’ll not appreciate running without it.

I’m in aT atm, elementalist for a while, doing some GvG quite a lot, and since the patch i cme to some reflexion i would like to share and compare with you. Feel free to discuss this is an open thread


Water reflexions
Water for me is not a real good use.
I’ll take the postulate ice bow is rather too hard to use now

so what about water:
First column
_ soothing ice: synergise well with aura traits, specialy the earth one, when under frost aura you take 40% less damage.
Problem is the 20 seconds cooldown, that is long. not awfully long, but still…

_Piercing shards: Without icebow, i wont use piercing shards since it’s little use. so for me it’s a no-go since i’m not using it

Second column
Every trait here is very good but we have to make a chose.

Third column
_Cleaning water is convinient, but not that usefull, on melee you wont need it anymore since guards got back the purge on shout and at the end the only way to do it already purge.
The other way are self centered: swapping to water or cantrips. if you are so scared of condi, you can just take purging fames, it should be enough. but i dont feel like it’s necessary.

_ Soothing power
That trait is good, it gives a perma 300 regen to your group instead of 150.
It’s a good use, but it doesn’t cover a burst which is what we fear the most.

_ Passive
_ Soothing mist is good but doesn’t cover a burst and you cant share it with someone who already has it
_ healing ripple has a VERY short range, useless to heal allies, can be use self centered
_ Aquatic Benevolence stupid trait since we are not healing, it’s mostly guys exploding that is important.

Own conclusion
Apart from 2nd column, nothing amaze me.
We dont have the extra 3000 life from water, means i dont see the reason i need this.
i wont go for a full traitline for some purge and 20% cd reduction on 2 utilitaries skills.

what i meant is whining about anything being on grandmaster is not the point, whining about it being on the same place as smthing else is way more relevent.

Elementalists were supposed to have EA on same place as elemental attenument.
that was a problem cause you cant take both.
it would have bee the same problem with panic strike and executionner

here you complain it’s a grandmaster, but on the first column you have the purge, would you be please not having it?

“grandmaster” doesn’t mean anything now, you have to choose between 3 minor, 3 master and 3 grandmaster

as long as the builds are usable, i wont mind it being anywhere.

You are not getting the good point of it.
For what i’ve seen, when the first door opens, bombs are useless for a while, so you can either use your runner to get the gards or let him pop archer for constant support.
Anyway for him to pull something else is useless.

Take 2 shoutbow (or whatever celestial elem DD), go offensive side 2 defense and 2 tank runner (lets say banner or whatever
Kill NPC while zerk can’t come close, heal/purge NPC while zerk cant approche your large AOE either run at them since there is no more guards
Laught at zerker if runner is good, other can be awfull

For now, Torch is a pretty limited option for guards and rangers.
They are pretty common for Me.

Considering the diversity of the skins _ that looks amazing _ , i would greatly appreciate other flame users.
i dont really expect to be on the new specialisations, as it may already been settled, but i can really bring myself to a thief using his torch melee to set his ennemies’ faces on fire to blind them, maybe disapears.

A main hand torch on guard, off on warrior, elem could have one too.

What do you think about bringing torch on the main scene?

Taunt on players:
when used on players, it will force the taunted player to run at their target with their skill bar locked—minus stun breakers—and only use their autoattack skill to attack.

Question:
How taunt works on ranged players
Lets say i’m using it on a ranger spamming his silly 1-2 skills on a wall on WvW, will he just spam 1 “using his autoattack skill to attack”, or “run at his target” and fell from the wall

I just cant set my mind about that

the original question was about the revenant’s Elites with no cooldowns (yes, is all about energy management… but it seems to be a fast resource, to me at least).
My (and guild wars wiki) idea about Elites is “Elite skills are especially powerful skills designed to be used infrequently and have a dramatic effect on the tide of a battle. The last slot on the skill bar is reserved for elite skills. Elite skills typically have much longer recharge times compared to normal utility skills — very few recharge in less than 60 seconds, and some can take up to 4 minutes”.

(i’m not english so forgive possible errors)

Dont forget his 2-5 attacks cost energy too, on the video he casts slowly, but while in fight hi wont be able to spam and attack efficiently

If you take lets say the hammers tourning around you and Blank/dwarf, it would mean you’ll be able to maintain it forever just switching legends.
Lets say one legend is supported oriented, while you’ll surelly get direct damage, condi damage and whatever.
With our balnk you would be able to make an unkillable support/tank Darf Darf switch.

This energy reflewing to 50% may advantage this to allows you to spam abilities with little compensation.

Seems like The One Class to rule them all.

I dont get your point, we see a range weap dealing VERY little damage considering the stuff, a bit more while melee considering energy cost of hammers, but really it felt like a support class for me, nothing offensive here.

did i missed something or darf/hammer is a ranger with half dps and the support potential of a guard

Thats sounds good, but considering WvW méta, it wont take more than one room on melee groups
Considering PVE, it wont even appears with thoses low damage

Is there really any reason to make public who the forum specialist are since they mostly are there to report back to ANet? I don’t see why someone needs a tag for that. Having a tag opens up possibilities of them being constantly harassed about being white knights and ANet toadies. Imo, it would be better not to have people publicly labeled as being “semi official” when they have no official function other than collate information and report or linking official posts (which anyone can do).

What do others feel about this? I’m very interested in feedback on the subject of making specialists public or not.

a bit indiferent, legal reason made most pple cant apply, and the program is not on other “official” forum’s language anyway.

Get some scouts in your towers and make proper reports and its all fine.Tbh i dont get the OP at all,as a small scale havoc squad we’ve had some awesome fights last nght and been able to cap stuff we normally wouldnt been able to cap with just 5.Thats Your mentality speaking,anet removing the white swords doesnt mean you should all zerg harder….

This is seriousely hard to have a full look of stonemist… even smaller castle cant be hard to scoot.
For now we have the TP, on eternal battleground, but problem starts to appears in secondary maps when you dont have a TP, a single scoot cant cover the whole castle

According to me a condi build is pretty close from a blackwatter or whatever Me lame build. You are awsome in 1v1 with your low CD, your decent tanking, and ability to stand longer than your ennemies, but the point is 1v1 goes to nowhere, you dont have a real room in the meta, from holder to… whatever

Lack of burst hits pretty hard.

That’s pretty false, Me can be the highest Dps but it’s mostly situational.

Shatter is not really the way to go, phantasm and focus oriented builds are more effective if there is some projectiles.

By itself the mesmer dont hit that hard, but he is n°1 when having the 3 phantasm helping him.

Problem is… it’s situational, trash dont last long enough, focus is not easy to manage, so you use your Me to pack ennemies, tu return projectiles, to cele your allies…

You are on a misunderstanding here

While putting this stuff 1 year before the release, they basically said “Farm gw1 one more year for intensive achivement farm then you will have exclusive stuff.”

That was a guarentee for them to grap us on the new game. No more.
So people took long time to get those exclusive skin, not so goodlooking by the way.

And now you come saing that it’s a shame?
400 h of farm at least, is really a shame?

Well go play GW1, put 400 h of intensive farm on it, expect more than that (1000h form the start?), thats not a problem for me.

I’ll tell both in both place.

Guardian and War are working well together, and you need both to stay efficient.
They are pretty different and similar.

Guardian buffs on defensive way, heal, purge, graps, block have a nice sustain and dps
Wars buffs on offensive way, have a lots of hp and regen, mass control, great mobility have a nice sustain and dps

They are fighting side by side.

The difference would be for the guardian, he need to watch carefully others players buffs/debuffs and live while the war don’t really have to

They where very strong for 3 reason:

Mass blind effect
Mass confusion spreading
Massive damage comming fron confuse

It used to:

  • blind every target on the start of glam AOE
  • Set 1 confusion per blind
  • Set 1 confusion on everyone who enter / exit Glam field

So you could put 4 confusion to the whole zerg dealing 1500 dmg per hit

BUT

  • They divided by two confusion effect in WVW
  • you can only blind one people at a time >> 1 confusion only

Just check to make sure, procs Quickness only, nothing else, but pretty useless if you consider than it is mostly a dps buff when you have 4000 hpleft

At any rate, I also agree that it would have been nice of the devs to mention the CDI’s in the non-english forums.

I don’t blame CM for that as far as i guess they where not requested to work on it. But we were even not told Ranger CDI were opened.

There are a lot more countries in Europe than just France. So claiming that ANet is only interested in what NA thinks is a rather ignorant and selfcentered perspective. I’m from the Netherlands and last time I checked we are one of many countries that make up Europe.

Yeah, I know a lot of people are posting here from all over the world.
My point was every server has it’s own way of going, specifically in WvsW and most french, spanish or german people would have a better time posting on the official forum dedicated to them.

No offense if i made my self unclear, i just wanted to point the fact that it is understanable not to comunicate directly to the devs, but as far as here, it’s basically lead by a CC who is doing a pretty nice job, why shouldn’t we use the same concept here and there.

That’s not such a huge job if you take in account the fact people are less on thoses officials subforums… And it shouldn’t hurt anyway

I know I am going to make myself hated, but I have a single question:
Do you care so badly about non English-speaking people that no one dare at least inform us that a CDI is running on other subforums

I mean, I barely can understand than the language makes it harder to transfer information to dev while you are doing pretty well here, but there is no way for me to understand why we don’t deserve any information at all.

I’m talking about French sub forum only:
#We were not informed at all a CDI about Ranger was running here (or an other subject by the way)

  1. When we started to create something that way by our own we did not get any remarks about it
  2. When the debate here came to have some clues about what is on process, we had to find that by ourself and traduce it.
  3. For now we did not have any FR community manager post about Ranger CDI

So,
Don’t you really care about what European people thinks about rangers?
The Meta is slightly different on our servers than NA, don’t you think a feedback could be interesting giving a different sight of view?

How big do traps need to be to be considered Aoe? Traps have an effective radius of 240 when traited, which is the same size as Barrage. Is Barrage not considered Aoe to you or something? How big does it have to be to be considered Aoe?

And what about Bonfire? Whirling Defense? drakes? What the heck else do you need to be able to do Aoe? (oh, let me guess, blast finisher like Thief shortbow….)

Traps sucks on power builds, Whirling Defense makes low damage, and barrage has a huge CD.

Fact is our mele weapons at the start deals less damage because they are seemed to work with the pet (70%-30% rule).
However most pets are single targets making us bad when not out of the zerg in WvW.
The main problem here is not the size, but the damage itself.

30% of our DPS is single target only when it ever hits.

I appologise if i just missed it, but is something in sight to respond for the lack of hard control of the ranger making it pretty useless while melee un WvsW?

I did made a proposition earlier:
2 seconds immobilize at 300 range on swoot (GS3) when hit (5 targets max)

But i have not seen a lot of discussions about mass controls here. Is this part of the ranger fair for you?
While Playing other melee characters, i have a strong feeling that i can make a difference while controling the good place on the good time. With my ranger, it feels a bit week for me, and it is the reason why i dont use it on WvsW.

I would like to point the fact that unlike most classes,
ranger dont have any spammable mass control mechanics.

Elem have counless chill/root/wall/statics/
Warriors have stuns and bump every 7 sec
Necro have chill and fear
Guards have a strong wall and a pretty nice grap
Engies have a lot of control tools

Then Ranger have a 25 sec CD on a 2sec imobilize and a 1 sec giver, or can use a pet to fear. Most controls are single targeted, making them useless versus zergs.

I can sustain as a Warrior, maybe, but i can’t control in AOE efficiently while my DPS is lower.

Suggestion
If Swoop (GS3) could immobilize 2 seconds at 300 range at land, it could be a fair and visible mass control tool allowing us to be competitive on massives confrontations

Basically, just follow the blue point on the map, it may lead you to a group of people of your team. If they are more than one, just ask on the map channel witch one is zerg.

Archer is very different from ranger you know…
Ranger means more synergy with nature than bow-master…

In PVE, lightning hammer may be the hardest hitting spec of all game, while buff in grp, you autoattack at 10k meaning 20k dps, far above average zerk war. Blinding and exploding on autoattack chain.

Indeed, you have no resiliance at all running this spec

Most often, you deal around 6-8k dps playing fresh air

I just tested this on dummies.

ZD actually takes 2s to cast. Ranged blocking lasts 1 more sec.
It hits for 6k (0 might).
Autoattack takes 3s, and for me it hits 1.5k, 1.5k, 3×1k = 6k total damage. (again 0 might)
So overall it is actually dealing more damage/DPS than the autoattack.
(I had 100% crit in all tests due to RHS / sigil / fury etc)

but autoattack takes 1.5 sec. therefore it deals more damage

Yes but it also reflects projectiles.

The sword #3 is 8 auto attacks in 1, which is pretty handy.

with autoattack you can for the same time hit 6 times multiple targets, deal more damage and move

Accordig to me this attack is only usefull when you have to retreat for a few seconds, time for you to use sword 3 and torch 5 witch are both useless instead. Nice number doesn’t mean huge dps…

Because I am French i don’t like writing over here, thats why i did not personaly answer.

But the true reason is :

Indeed a lot of people dosent want to read a long post and would prefer a visual aspect.

On another hand, i should tell you than it’s a pretty commun build, already discuted previousely, its a great one, you can use it with small changes.

I personally prefer having retreat instead of hold the line, specifically when time comes to kill the giganticus lupicus, because you can put a shelter on a down mate. Moreover, i enjoy running faster in fight, you also jump longer… very convenient.

The worst thing on your build is that you use only one weapon. At least try starting a fight with the wall of a staff, or the protection of the focus can save you sometimes… Whatever, try to be inventive thatway.
