Pretty sure the build you are using doesn’t really have quick access to a daze other than Steal. So PI won’t give you a lot of benefit. PI is really good on D/P builds because headshot is easy access to a daze.

I’d say…both?

Core isn’t necessarily worse in some regards (like damage). It will suffer in survivability, but you can use Acrobatics like Daredevil to boost survivability in a similar dodge focused fashion.

Not tonight, because of my busy social calendar, but tomorrow I can work with you on both. We can start in Core and move to DD.

That works as I have a massive headache and just want to make it through work today and nap at home hah. Just let me know what time window works for you and I will keep it openish.

TL;DR I am looking for someone to help me with PvP and learning thief. Preferably over voice chat(Discord)

I am a long time GW2 Player like most of us here. I enjoyed PvP in the early days and played it here and there with a friend who has sense gotten married, had two kids, and has retired from MMOs. We usually duo’d, and we did okay. Ended up in Ruby when there were still leagues.

I know a lot of pressure is put on a thief in PvP, and I would like a deeper understanding of what it all entails. Deeper understand of when to fight or flight, and situations to decide kitten this kitten im out before attempting it.

I have an understanding of D/P and staying mobile, but watching for example Sindrener play thief. He seems so fluid and when I watch my play and during playing it feels a bit clunky.

So if anyone would have time to kind of just chill with me on my discord and go over stuff with me here and there and practice with me I would be greatly happy.

I am part of the Teef guild, just no one is on usually or repping so I figured this would be a good place to ask.

You can just PM me in game. I am usually on every other day if not daily from 8pm-1230pm EST.

Actually when I really think about it Revelation is just a dumb idea. Straight up makes D/D useless in pvp for thieves. Unless you feel like spamming death blossom I guess.

A sigil should not negate a 40-60 second cool down skill.

Well yea, but the same can be said about other sigils as well, especially nullification.

Plus, if you have only 1 source of stealth on your bar and you are upset that it gets countered, that doesn’t make the sigil OP. It just makes the sigil a viable way to counter stealth. If you want to get around it, add more stealth to your bar. Or don’t base your build around camping stealth.

To be fair for thieves there is only one viable stealth skill in blinding powder. Shadow Refuge is fine in very specific instances, but having both of those on your bar is a huge waste compared to having shadowstep and signet of agility.

There is no such thing as camping stealth minus in WvW. sPvP is a completely different beast.

Revealed that is caused by you landing an attack while in stealth is 4 seconds. But revealed itself is just an effect that is applied, the applied duration can be different.

The only point of sigil of revelation is to force players out of stealth.

And I don’t see why people are complaining so much about it. Its 1/4 sec reveal on an 18 sec CD. Its hardly broken

I believe the complaint is from it being able to negate skills that are on a much higher cooldown. Like Shadow Refuge which is 60 seconds.

Plus the potential to have multiple people with the sigil and a rev to more or less negate stealth.

You forgot the part where Revealed removes all stealth from the affected player.

Revealed already has different durations across the game and on different abilities. It doesn’t make sense to create an entirely new debuff when they can just use this one and adjust the duration, like they have for every other Revealed application.

Revealed from attacking while in stealth has a duration of 3 seconds in PvE, 4 seconds in PvP. Revealed on abilities and traits has anywhere from 4 to 8 seconds duration. There is no reason why an effect can’t proc Revealed for 0.25 seconds.

That makes sense I guess. Still seems pretty good that a weapon swap can negate a 40 second cool down utility. IMHO.

Yes, it applies the revealed debuff for 1/4 seconds. What in the wording made it sound like it wouldn’t apply the debuff?

Because revealed is not applied when stealth ends on it’s own accord.

It does have a point. You can use it before they stealth/think of stealthing & negate a possible stealth or cause them to rethink what they’re about to do

No it doesn’t since most stealth skills take longer than a 1/4 second to cast other than blinding powder and a couple others.

Oh boy, inc massive QQ from thieves.

Pretty sure everyone will be running Sigil of Cleansing. Conditions are so rampant that we need all the cleansing we can get. Sigil of Nullification might also be run a lot more now to help counter boon spamming. Of course, we wouldn’t need these kind of powerful sigils if you just balanced your freaking game properly!

They QQ is justified though. Thieves have to burn a cooldown or use half or more of their initiative to get a few seconds of stealth that can get negated by a simple weapon swap.

That is is no way balanced especially since it has no counterplay to it.

As a thief player I have a couple issues with Revelation. I do not have an issue with the reveal stealth within that range, but the fact that a simple weapon swap can negate us blowing a CD with blinding powder or 8 initiative if we combine black powder with heartseeker to stealth.

How do you guys even remotely think that is balanced?

Would you find it fair that if the remaining stealth duration is longer than the reveal duration is that we get stealth reapplied?

Really great combo but is it worth using the dodge offensively when a heart seeker works just fine?

I suppose it’s a good backup when you know you can be more offensive and sacrifice a dodge.

Well you do it for the damage bonus I believe. Also you don’t have to burn initiative as black powder takes up 6 which is a good amount to want to use another 3.

No, as I said, you need to use steal WHILE dodging, so Mug can proc too before the dodge animation is over and you inflict both Mug and Bound dmg and end the combo in stealth, rdy to use Backstab.

Edit: and if you can, try to use Black Powder with the target already picked, so if he has Aegis you rupt it with the BP skill, allowing Mug+Bound+Backstab to land (if not, Mug will be blocked by Aegis).

If you’re asking about the opening combo, you just need to use Black Powder, then dodge (with Bounding Dodger GM trait in DD line) and while dodging use Steal to the target, so you land the damage of Bound while going in stealth on top of your target, and after that use Backstab.

Ohh kitten I didn’t know we could steal while in the dodge animation. Wow I have been missing out hard.

Bounding Dodger Trait – Your dodge ability is replaced by Bound, dealing damage to the area after you evade and it’s a blast finisher that when u combined it with SMOKE field like Black Powder (#5 skill Pistol offhand) it applies Stealth then + quick steal and bacsktab and make sure to always hit you’re bacsktab at full potential so quick positioning is a must always hit at the back and BOunding dodge can do 3k to 4k ish crit

As a thief player, I am happy we got buffs, but not at the expense of skills. From what I have seen thiefs just have to auto attack. Deal tons of damage. No point in using any skills. Id rather you tone back the auto damage a little and spread it out on skills. For example

D/D – Give back a stack or two of bleed back to death blossom. Increase heartseeker break points a little bit. Hell give us more condition applications on our weapons.

Also stop trying to make acrobatics happen. It is not going to happen. Just give us preparedness baseline. You listed one of your concerns as our initiative being low since we have to use our skills both offensively and defensively. Guess what fixes that. Preparedness baseline.

By FAR the Best Thief build VIABLE.

The thing with staff is vault is the most kittening predictable skill to see coming. The mobility you get from D/P along with easy blind, stealth from powder, headshot, along with shadow shot your target will have a hard time shaking you.

Staff is not bad by any means, but it is a lot easier to predict than D/P. IMHO

I tried it in PvP yesterday and could activate it to get my boons whenever I wanted. Maybe they ghost fixed it? I F1d right out of gate to get swiftness and the other boons to get our home point.

I am sure I am not the only one who has broken down and somewhat has lost my joy of playing GW2, is tired of the kitten Anet is pulling as of late, and is sitting here watching our dream of what we expected slowly fade.

HoT IS LACKLUSTER

I like many had high hopes for HoT. But like many I am somewhat disappointed in what we got. There are good things about it, but to have major bugs that have been reported, especially the ones that have stopped legendary progression, as well as meta event progression is a slap to the face of a community that has invested so much in you Anet.

FORCED OBSOLESCENCE OF CONTENT

The dungeon reward nerf was stupid. Plain and simple. I was not a fan of dungeons, but with the plenty of players who enjoyed them. You just spit in their faces. Same goes for fractals at this point. Why are you trying to force your players to play content they might not want to? As many have stated this goes against your principal of “Play your way.” As mentioned on reddit, it is because dungeons made gold out of thin air, but so does SW, so does farming rich ore nodes.

Take a look at that screenshot from Twitch. You are straight up irrelevant. I am not the only one who states this. A friend of mine from high school works for twitch, and got me in touch with a rep from goodgame.gg For those who don’t know who they are, they connect brands with streamers/teams in eSports. The company I work for wanted to sponsor a streamer/team and the rep flat out told us to avoid MMOs like the plague. They are pretty much the single worst investment you can make. You guys as brought up by the community don’t even do at least monthly balance patches. So take the money you’re throwing at eSports and use it to hire talent that will fix your game. I can even provide proof of my connects to skeptical people. Just PM me.

LACK OF COMMUNICATION/TRANSPARENCY

Hands down out of all the games I have played. You guys have close to the least amount of communication with the community. We have to depend on people like Dulfy(and thank you for all your work Dulfy along with everyone else who datamines), to have any clue what to expect. All I feel we ever see anymore is announcements on things you want us to spend money on. Fix the major bugs, work on major features your community has asked for.(Colorblind Mode). Scratch our backs and we will scratch yours. But for now I urge the community to speak with your wallet and not buy anything/cut your spending on gems. F2P players don’t buy the expansion. If you REALLY want it wait for it to go on sale. The visual changes you made this patch should have been something you asked the community about.

FOCUSING ON MONETARY GAINS OVER MAJOR BUGS/FUN

You guys have been churning out new weapon skins, glider skins, outfits quickly for the past month, but yet MAJOR bugs have gone unfixed despite being repeated on reddit, and the forums. We all understand GW2 is a business, and you want to make money. You know how great companies rake in the cash? They take care of their community. As stated above, focus more on fixing issues and we will in turn pay you back by buying gems. I promise you. Taking care of customers always resorts in gains 100%. I know designers are not coders, but have them take a break to work on other cool stuff.

TOO MANY DIRECTIONS AT ONCE

Now this might be my own personal opinion, and I realize I may be the only one who thinks this, buy I feel that Anet is trying to go in too many directions at once. They put in raids, now want to fix WvW, but at the same time want to push sPvP. Pick one thing Anet ONE THING to do and stick with it, instead of a bunch of things you have no idea what the hell you’re doing. I am not saying only choose one game mode forever, but if you want to overhaul WvW. Focus just on that so it is great.

Better Cond DD? (WvW)

i fought against that build with my STAFF and won it

its nice build 1v1 but in higher tier you will face guard who can cleanse easily, generosity runes, condi transfer, eles and condi immunity and much more stun abuse

try to get the highest condi dmg so use scavenging rune (more 150 condi dmg)
try to think how you get more condition like chill, vuknerability to cover you bleed and poison, like with hydromancy sigil and frality

in 2v2 and higher your dmg will be cleanse easily and the enemy will focus you untill you SR

ask yourself why staff thief could get you as he dont have much condi cleanse and you will see that every class got more cleanse, block, evades etc.. so they can take you unless they used all their endurance, cleanse….

Thieves easily have the most evades lol. Pretty much anything we do is an evade now.

Thief in Raids

Killed VG just fine using Staff Daredevil in a DPS slot, huge damage and CC from Physicals. Close to killing Gorseval right now with Venomshare – easy 15k+ DPS with Alacrity from our Chronomancer and nice CC from Basi.

Seems like you forgot everyone else can dps a lot better than the current state of thief with even better survivability. This won’t change until anet does anything which is most unlikely. Just because you did it doesn’t mean it’s the most optimal option because if you killed the boss, that’s because the rest of the group consisted of the better classes supporting all roles and keeping personal dps

Better survivability than dodging everything? I was the only one in the group that never entered downed state and probably had the highest Scholar uptime. The AoE damage aura ticked for a pathetic amount that the Druid was healing up in less than a second. A proper Staff + FF rotation has pretty much the best damage in the game when it comes to burstiness, which is what matters against Gorseval since the encounter is constantly shifting. Same with Vale Guardian to a lesser extent. Good part about CCing for us is that we don’t lose DPS. A Revenant needs to move to Staff out of Sword, which is an enormous DPS loss, while Fist Flurry + Palm Strike is enough for 2x Weakening Charges worth of damage. That, plus the Gorseval fight permanently Reveals everyone, which allows Staff to have +200 Power at all times.

People that think Thief has bad survivability don’t know how to dodge, and with Daredevil, which is the top DPS anyway, there is no excuse. Evasion may not be sufficient with some other kind of undodgeable debuff in another fight, but the first 2 raid bosses have no such thing, and others will be responsible for healing you anyway.

From what I have seen D/D and staff are pretty even. Especially with D/D giving you easy access to multiple conditions. All we can do is dodge better. Every other class just straight out DPSs us.

How do you feel about where thieves are at? I kind of feel we are a bit lack luster after the expansion. Also what hours do you usually stream around?

So I installed Windows 10 yesterday. Game runs fine and everything. The issue I am having is that Windows cannot find the .exe. It is not under my Apps list, and isn’t listed even when I put it there. I like being able to get dressed and have Cortana boot Guild Wars 2. It works for all my Blizzard games and Steam games. Thanks!

Hey Guys,

I am coming back to GW2 and have always focused on PvP overall even in GW1. I am on Anvil Rock, but am looking for a very active sPvP guild that I could join. I would like to be in one that also focuses on tournaments. I main thief, but am open to learning professions that will help the guild.

As a Thief only player in PvP I have Issues with my own class.

1)Condition vs Damage-The way conditions work now, condition thieves are outclassed by 2 spam thieves. It is quite annoying that there is build where all you have to do is stealth and press 2 repeatedly. The stealth on shadow refuge is too long. The fact I can stealth for over 10 seconds even has me baffled.

2)Venoms are god awful. Venoms need an overall damage buff. And a re-work and I will tell you exactly how they should be re-worked.
-Change charges to an overall duration they are applied. DONE! Biggest gripe fixed
-Make multiple charges of applications stack duration
-Basilisk Venom take away application time

Other than that I like thief, but the condition side needs a buff and an overall fix so that you aren’t punished for deciding to not go the route of 2 spam or backstab.

Also Scorpion Wire is great but should have a shortened CD if it misses as it is so easily dodged by things a simple as changing direction slightly.

Traps also could use a look at as well.

I am sure other people have been dealing with this again. ALWAYS happens on a quick stomp from a thief or ranger. I thought this was addressed already. There is the issue blatantly pointed out to you. QUICK STOMPS CAUSE LOADING SCREEN BUG

Condition builds are a joke, obviously no one plays a thief over at head quarters. Maybe this should change.

You are horridly mistaken if you think they are a joke. Scorpion Wire to caltrops with the uncatchable trait and death blossom is EASY 25 stacks of bleed, pop spider venom mid fight, shortbow to keep poison on if cleared GG. An aware Bleed thief will own a glass thief every time.

Lol shadow’s embrace would render that build entirely useless. I haven’t once died to a condition thief, not once. But I also don’t run glass cannon, and I know anything can own a bad one. In a balanced setting though conditions are nothing short of a joke.

Shadow’s Embrace is more or less useless. Bleeds and the Poison are constant. P/D what are you gonna do CnD when you can’t touch me? You obviously are not that dumb to think good condi thiefs are dumb enough to let you stealth with CnD. Plus with ridiculous init regen. You’re just mad because Dancing Dagger got nerfed.

A) Shadows embrace is wonderful. It truly is. It’s hands down the best way to drop conditions, and definitely the only way we have to drop a bunch of conditions.

That being said, Condition damage thieves are great in hot join. I ran 0/0/30/20/20 P/D for a long, long time and I loved it. It’s not so great in Tourneys though. Ele and Guardian bunkers will take literally forever to down. You can beat burst specs, but 1 mistake and your usually pasted, while your opponent can make multiple mistakes and still survive (since your damage is so slow and steady). In the “Focus target, next” coordination of paid tourneys, bleeds don’t have a chance to shine.

Your cap denial is ok with caltrops, but nothing compared to the KB/KB/KD/Launch chains guardians and ele’s can pull off. So yeah, condi thieves are fine, but in the current meta, they’re weak in tpvp. I was hoping this patch would change some of that, but meh, kittenandwich.

I shred all those classes pretty easily with conditions. It is more about timing when you’ll stack. Ele’s rarely have trouble with. Guardians are more or less cake. I personally don’t have problems with those classes, and with high mobility and stun breaks you’re way too mobile to really be shut down easily.
