We’re just going in circles with these “blame the hacker, no blame the CS reps, no blame Gaile” arguments.
The real question is – What, if anything, is Anet going to do to improve account security?
I get that GW1 is an old game & not actively supported, but this incident speaks to a larger issue that’s been here since GW2’s launch.
And just to clarify – The main reason I’m a tad upset is the whole “hacker tried multiple times until he got a CS rep that handed him the account” bit.
No security measures will ever be 100% foolproof.
But.
Anet can do better than they did here.
And if I haven’t said it before now, I do hope Gaile gets her account restored.
Nobody deserves that.
…snip…
As I’ve said previously, nothing is 100% secure. Any shouldas, wouldas, what-ifs, and if-thens you can conceive aren’t going to change that.
Yes, hopefully whatever checks/flags/whatnot that were bypassed will help security be tightened going forward. We’re all hoping that. But, even then, it will never be 100%. Kitten happens, and it’s better to deal with the reality in front of you than dwell on the fantasy you want it to be… and consider placing your anger where it deservedly goes: to the hacker.
~EW
I think anger towards Anet’s security procedures is justified as well.
And +1 to everything mrstealth said.
I’ll admit it is a little disturbing that after several tries no flags were raised.
Mike O’ Brien didn’t say a single thing in his post about no flags being raised. That’s an assumption being made by the posters here.
Just because flags are raised, it doesn’t mean those flags will protect someone’s account.
Gaile, again I’m sorry this happened to you. In a different MMO I played I and my guildies could only watch as someone who hacked a friend’s account logged in character after character draining her of everything. It was heartbreaking to witness, and I can only imagine what it would be like to experience.
~EW
IF flags were raised and subsequently ignored, that speaks to an even larger issue with security.
I have seen some people demanding the things you say, but mostly I’ve seen concern about how multiple attempts did not raise any flags.
This.
It bears repeating, so I’ll say it again – the hacker who got Gaile tried multiple times until he got a CS rep that granted him access.
That is inexcusable.
Being lax in their procedures is what caused this (and a lot of other) mess(es).
“Oh, I see here that Gaile has tried about a dozen times tonight to get into her account…. nothing fishy about that.”
(edited by oshilator.4681)
But in the end we are all likely to be safer because of it, assuming Anet actually takes this as the wake up call it should be seen as.
I’m glad you believe that. Because I don’t.
They’ve been warned over & over about how easy it is to gain control of accounts with minimal information.
And nothing (that we can see, anyway) has changed.
We have a great team of customer support agents who follow these policies, and the hacker tried a bunch of times and found one agent who didn’t.
We take your account security seriously and will continue to do everything we can to ensure that our support team consistently applies this security policy and prioritizes protecting you from account hackers.
Mo
These two sentences bother me the most.
WHY wasn’t Gaile’s account flagged after the first two or three attempts? Do your CS reps not talk to eachother?
Color me skeptical about just how seriously you take account security.
What a disgusting thing to happen to a lovely person. What sort of low life takes advantage of Gaile of all people? She is always so kind and helpful. You people blaming Anet security and the poor dupe who probably lost his/her job, consider the real culprit was one of us – a vile, nasty little player. Yuck.
We’re placing the blame on Anet security because that’s exactly where it belongs.
I used to do CS for a large banking company in my area. We would occasionally have somebody call in & attempt to fraudulently gain control of a customers account. After the first attempt, notations would be made on the account to give the next CS rep a heads up. After the second attempt, the account would be marked as “Transfer to Fraud Dept Immediately” if the hacker called again and the account would be locked down. The customer would also be notified.
Long story short – At what point was Gaile notified and what, if any, actions were taken by your CS team to secure the account before it was compromised?
If this is how your CS team handles situations like this, then we have a problem.
Probably a few thousand problems.
Game companies are not banks. There isn’t the same amount of risk involved. But the world is changing as is the nature of online gaming and your suggestion is a good one for them to consider.
I’m well aware that they aren’t the same thing nor same amount of risk. But thanks for being condescending.
My point was, as others have said, the security measures in place aren’t working if all it takes is one CS rep not following the rules to compromise an account.

This.
This is the part that concerns me. As Vis pointed out, why was there no warning flag after the second attempt by said hacker to gain control of the account?
If your team of CS agents mostly follow the rules, but sometimes don’t….. then all of our accounts (GW1 & 2) are at risk unless changes are made.
You two are going to get this thread locked.
k my sry, as for answering on tickets i can only agree it’s very person depending. As for gw2 account safety i cannot agree what you said in y first post. It’s definitely a human fault with big consequences. I hope your issues are solved quickly. (i didn’t say they reacted fast, but relatively fast)
You are missing the point. If they have access to your gw1 account they have access to your gw2 account.
Actually, in some cases, if they have a CHARACTER NAME, they have access to your account.
Hopefully this incident serves as a wake-up call to Support & security measures are tightened significantly.
Hate it for Gaile, though.
I was wrong earlier. Anet devs said, that the second ring (as well as earrings) will be available in later LS chapters. So, it seems rings being unique is not an oversight, but just Anet’s attemtp to delay introducing the solution to the problem they themselves created by locking out new statsets behind raiding.
I’m very disappointed with that.
And part of me wants to just sigh & mutter “typical.”
The last patch said they added missing stats.
I don’t have the rubies to buy an amulet & confirm which ones they added.
Has anyone looked?
Edit – the rings are still ‘unique’.
It’s happening to me too. CA cancels out immediately upon hitting F5.
Still wondering if this was intentional or an oversight.
Most likely an oversight. If i remember it right, the raid ones were unique at the very beginning as well.
I think you’re right. I’d forgotten about that.
Here’s the latest Dev response:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Blood-Ruby-Band/first#post6263222
stating additional stats are coming.
I saw that & am thankful to them for the quick response.
My concern remains that the rings you purchase from raid vendors are NOT unique, whereas the ones you can buy in Bloodstone Fen are.
Still wondering if this was intentional or an oversight.
The stat issue should be fixed in an upcoming build, and it will include additional combinations beyond just Marauder’s.
Thank you for the update.
Any word on why these rings are unique when the raid vendor rings are not?
(edited by oshilator.4681)
Can you also give us heads up if it’s really supposed to be unique (as there’s only one version currently)?
This.
There’s no reason for the rings to be unique.
And would adding Zealots stats be too much to hope for?
Be nice, but probably wishful thinking, if we could get a redname response on the missing stats & the unique status.
The Blood Ruby Items have 21 out of 32 possible.
Missing 11 stats:
Assassin’s
Carrion
Crusader
Dire
Magi’s
Marauder’s
Sentinel’s
Settler’s
Shaman’s
Valkyrie
Zealot’s
And there’s no logical reason for them to be missing any of those, period.
Nor is there, as has been pointed out, any reason for the rings to be unique.
Love the LS3 patch for the most part.
But…. why in the world are the Blood Ruby Bands unique?
This sort of defeats the purpose of offering them like that.
So let’s review:
Marauder’s – No
Magi’s – No
Zealot’s – No
Assassin’s – No
Why?
Edit – Also, these rings are unique? Really? We can only equip one?
(edited by oshilator.4681)
No Zealot stats either….shame.
This.
No assassins either.
Really guys….. would it be so difficult to make ALL stat blocks available via these trinkets?
I really like the skins, and have a lot of tickets with which to get em, but I still don’t agree with the choices made with making these bound.
As far as being special, there’s no lore behind them (yet), and if they really were special, they would’ve been obtainable via gameplay, maybe associated with the little tidbits of Living World we’ve been getting.
I don’t usually think things like this are worth commenting on, but in this case, I mostly hope our opinions matter enough to prevent trends in the future.
Anet likes to repeat the same mistakes over & over.
It’s become their MO.
All i have to say – where are my legendary weapons? We seen kittenload of these blc skins already since legendary weps itself was put on “hold”…
I also believe that you are only testing waters with this set for more “special and exclusive” occasions in future.
“Nothings off the table.”
Reading this thread, we understand your questions and want to share a little information: This set is designed to be a special, exclusive set and therefore it’s a little different than most. There are a couple of other interesting factors that you’ll want to know: The set is available for one ticket. It will remain priced at one ticket into the future, so someone who wants it now doesn’t need to be concerned about it becoming unavailable or about it rising in price in the future. Other sets currently available are not account bound, such as the Cavalier Weapon Set which was recently released at a price of 1 Black Lion Claim Ticket and remains at that price now. In addition, we do intend to continue to offer tradeable sets in the future. If you’d like a preview of the new set, go to your bank wardrobe and filter for “Privateer.” We hope this answers your questions, and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Oh please .. we are not dumb sarah. The weapon is not special at all, it looks like a rushed job designed for testing the players respons to this kind of sale.
I find it interesting that we were given no prior indication this would be happening. Kind of like the time they took the custom gem exchange option from us & hoped we wouldn’t notice.
The more things change around here, the more they stay the same.

It doesn’t answer anything, but it DOES manage to miss the point.
“Just a cash grab we were hoping you wouldn’t notice, nothing to see here.”
Classic Anet response.

Anet… or, more specifically, Mike -
You haven’t learned anything from past mistakes, have you?
Starting to see where Mike intends to take the company.
New’s Flash: It’s not Mike who allows this to happen. It’s more of a decision made by Crystin Cox who is the microtransactions and masteries team lead.
News Flash – Mike oversees every decision that happens. On some level, he approved this.
Your right a paid professional in that field has no input at all over what happens to any section of the company. It does not matter where that idea came from. Right?
Not once it’s implemented, no.

As somebody else pointed out, this is the Fused/Sclerite weapon skin fiasco all over again.
(edited by oshilator.4681)
My rangers have been hit so many times since HoT dropped that they’ve all got concussions.
And, again, the Seeds of Life nerf makes zero sense.
Can we get that reverted please?
No?
Ok, business as usual at Anet.
First they came for Moment of Clarity, and I said nothing, because I thought “it could be worse.” Then they came for Seed of Life and Lunar Impact and suddenly I have filled my Vial of Salt.
Seriously though, Seed of Life was already a 2-3 second wait for the animation to finish before the condi clear actually popped, so it was never a “quick fix” condi clear anyways. If we HAVE to get it cut by 50%, can we at least get the seed bloom time reduced by 50% as well?
Also do we know if the reduction to Lunar Impact daze duration affects how much break bar it reduces? Because all my complaints are PvE based, since that’s all I really do, and this nerf affects it more than any other nerf so far.
Druids have been great for raw healing and crowd control, and decent at a few other things but never really overpowered in any one direction. I get that we have a support role – I love it, that’s why I main Druid. This nerf reduces our ability to be USEFUL and actually welcomed into PvE group content. (A fractal with 3 reapers doesn’t really raise any eyebrows but 2 druids and suddenly this fractal’s gonna take a lot longer!) This takes our condi clear abilities from “actually useful” to “pretty lackluster” and our (personal) might stack generation from “bursty” to “flaccid”.
All in the name of pvp, indeed.
yes the duraiton would effect how much is taken off everything that effects the break bar by time lowers its total by a tick amount for example 3seconds would take off 1/3 but a 1.5 would take off 1/5th ect even with MoC now luna impact will only scale to 4.5 seconds making it a garrenteed 1/3rd bar every luna impact depending on the event/boss champ type which have higher level break bars.
to the thread , even before the MoC changes it was simple people saw numbers a whined @ omG luna impact 6 seconds with a trait which did nothing else but increase CC time and a one off damage buff (in which Luna impact does jack all damage anyway)
Then they nurfed the MoC to 50% lowering LP to 4.5 now 2.5 base + 50% (1.75 total 4.25 seconds) there was no need to nurf the daze time down from 4.5 to 4.25 with MoC traited Pointless change before MoC changes it was 6seconds daze on a skill that had a effective 10-14second gate time , in pvp you’d be able to use it once thats it.
for pve you could use it many times due to having tanks ect so there was no need to drop out of CA to kite around.
Pointless changes.
Ps anet fix the kitten Warroir bug with its f2 clearing 6 condis rather than 3! thats more game breaking than anything in game right now.
It’s not like they read anything we post here.
Or if they do, they disregard it.
Nice of them to discuss these changes with us & get our feedback before knee-jerking another set of nerfs.
Oh wait….
(And to be clear, the change I take issue with is the nerf to Seed of Life. Everything else, while I don’t like it, I can live with.)
(edited by oshilator.4681)
All in the name of pvp.
>.<
My poor smokescale now suffers from CTE.
I did few rounds of spvp with my usual power build and I just.. Felt so useless. I didn’t think it would be this bad but ouch, this feels bad. I just want to curl up into a ball and cry under my table.
This.
I felt pretty bad after trying my usual power+shouts setup in a few matches. I really, REALLY dislike playing Condi Ranger, but it feels like its the only other option beyond full on bunker/defense (for what THAT’s worth…) after the changes we’ve had recently.Maybe its time to change Bristleback for something else. Its far too easy to avoid its barrage now, and even landing all of its hits doesn’t do so much (and worse yet, no more great Might stacking from it)
Any suggestions?
I was considering the Raven/Snow Owl again…
Doesn’t matter.
Whatever we find that turns out to be effective will get an across-the-board nerf the next time a pvp’er loses a 1v1.
Wow, these changes actually surprised me.
I don’t know if I should just swap out my current back piece to a mattress or change classes. I honestly don’t like being a baby about change but this one seems to really neuter the Druid.
I wasn’t joking earlier. It really does feel like either going condi or full bunker are our only real options. We lost a massive chunk of our 1v1 pressure which was our only real thing we had going for us. We also lost ALOT of team support with the shroom nerf. (Used to be in fights where I couldnt enter because it was too hot I would spam shrooms to keep others active. Thats kinda pointless now for 1 whole condi a pop)
Plus, these changes ALSO screw druids in pve & wvw.
So, thanks e-sports.
Hahaha I have noticed lately today that I no longer have the damage to kill anything. A thief STOOD in my bristleback f2 that I had boosted with sic em. He still had half his life after it. I can no longer apply any reliable pressure to ellies. I cant disrupt the blocks of revenants and mesmers so they get to freely heal. Condi reapers are so kitten tanky that a boosted rapid fire with 25 stacks of might did less than 2k damage. Thats with a marauders amulet.
I hope you all like playing condi and bunker people. Because power atleast seems to be dead entirely. I just cant find a way to get hte damage I need to burst ANYTHING.
Edit: and Rangers Sustained damage has always been a joke.
Off topic, what does your ranger wear? your armor on Serena look so good.
Haha thanks. Bladed chest gloves legs and boots. Triumphant shoulders and either the triumphant head piece or the Mask of the Wanderer skin. Glittering weapons and its all in starry night dye color.
Attachment for reference.
Now you’ve done it. By posting that picture, you’ve given them a reason to nerf Glittering weapons.
Typical Anet. Another patch, another round of ranger/druid nerfs.
Could we get some Redname explanation for the nerf to Seed of Life?
And for the reduction in damage on the Smokescale’s “Bite” skill?
e-sports.
Yeah, I know.
Splitting the balance of skills between game modes is too much to ever, ever ask for.
Typical Anet. Another patch, another round of ranger/druid nerfs.

Another “I’m too lazy to play the game” thread. It takes no time at all to grab waypoints. I grabbed every non HoT HC in around 6 hours with my rev. It would take a lot less to grab the important waypoints in game. If you want it, go get it. Stop being lazy and asking people to do the work for you. Next thing you’ll be asking for is a a button you press that will instantly kill any mob you encounter, because you’ve killed over 15,000 why should you kill it again?
This. So much this.
I’m not talking the whole map. nor POI, Vistas, HPs… just the WPs.
Running from place to place is boring to do Map completion, this way you will have an option.
I would even pay gems/money for this.
Sounds like pay to win to me.
Running from place to place IS map completion. What do you think a map is?Why not just ask to buy map completion itself in the gem store? Think how much faster that would be……
That’s basically what the OP is asking for.
This can be gated to only ppl that have done map completion before on all maps an X amount of times, not for new players, or ppl that have never done map completion on all maps.
.
Map completion is gated behind actually getting off your butt & mapping.
As it should be.
Ok, you do understand this is for WP only, you will not get XP attached to them and you would still need to do poi, vistas, hearts, etc.
Saying that you can just run around mindless getting the WP proves the point that it isn’t fun after the 3+ time you have run to get them. Witch is the reason I only use my character with map completion in PvE.
My point still stands. You want waypoints? Run to them.
This can be gated to only ppl that have done map completion before on all maps an X amount of times, not for new players, or ppl that have never done map completion on all maps.
