I just logged to check out how the expansion was coming, if its worth buying.
Is it true that they only have 4 raid bosses now, like 6 months after release? Are there plans only to release a total of one raid with 12 total bosses for one expansion, or what is the deal???!
I’m fine with it as long as it hits. Projectile makes it interesting. If they fixed the hitting, it would be fine.
I have wanted to play a powerbased sword and shield with blocking and heavy armor class since beta, but warrior sword is condi, but their shield does block.
Now, finally, guardian shield blocks!
Thank you for this change!
On my burn guardian hybrid I run virtues. You can trait cd reduction for purging flames in tier 1, and in tier2 you could sacrifice faster f1 passive proc for condi cleanse on active f2.
I agree. I think I would like GW2 if i could see more of it.
They push open world group event, but you can’t even see the boss, let alone your own character on the screen.
I hope raids make them think about putting a slider or two in for particle effect.
I’ve wanted this forever.
Maybe with raids they will see the need of turning particle effects down.
Too few skills. I want to make a warrior with a sword and shield with a power build, not a Condi… too bad the same sword skills are are still basically the same.
And as it looks, they will never add new skills to swap out to them, so if you want to play a power sword build, don’t roll a warrior.
I do like having a limited set of slots, but hate the fixed weapon skills.
All there is to it is tagging mobs, hijacking a catapult sometimes, and this really poses no challenge. Not to mention that its bugged out, and we have no idea how many blooms we are SUPPOSED to get, as well as not getting any for possibly days/weeks.
Bad job arenanet. Simply really bad job.
A pre-cursor or foreshadow of the xpac??! Or was this just a bugged event…. I am really hopeful for raids and hard pve; but I’m thinking I should give it a month or two past release…
Could it be a sigil effect?
I made up a rule set that I used to level my last toon.
No gear beyond vendor whites, which also means no jewelry / accessory items.
Runes and sigils are ok to use to at least make builds interesting.
The goal was to get a group of people at level 80 to do all of the dungeons like this, but I have not been able to make that happen.
Just heard of this, so sorry that I’m late. I really want to make an opinion on this.
First off about the UF thing, I use a sword and shield, and that UF will be very handy for me when I stun and Flurry, or Berserk to pump up those crit benefits.
After looking at the image, I’m thinking I might lean towards Arms and Defense traits only, with the majority in Defense because they all look too dang good to pass up. Seeing the reflect issue thing worried me, until I realized I don’t get into a lot of ranged fights in PvE, so I’m all good.
Bad thing about this is I’ll have to take some points out of Strength, but I didn’t like any of the majors for my weapons, so the only real lose for me is the extra points in power and condition damage, though I have runes and gear for that. Then again, I can potentially spam Might with consumes and sigils, so maybe that’s not such a heavy hit.
Overall I see myself going full on tank when this change is released, with the sword capabilities providing fair offense. Only problem I have in PvE is those dang poison spamming areas that destroys me. I haven’t found a solution to that one, yet.
Just wanted to make sure that you knew that you have to max three trait lines out in the new system, and you have to pick traits from the given tier.
The NPE treats players like idiots. There’s a difference between pointing out facets of the game and helping to pace abilities and cutting players’ legs out from under them. Easier fights in starter zones is the norm, but this is sad.
It’s pretty clear that the NPE was to save the Chinese player base, as they said that the NPE was based on thousands of feedback comments.
So they changed it, had no Chinese retention, and kittenedoffthe western player base. Woot! Go NPE, you go,girl!
Agree with OP. And some comments.
1. Full ascended vs full exotic is 11.5%, not “5%” and not “miniscule”.
2. If you aren’t required t have ascended for pve, its only because the pve encounters are tuned sooooo easy. IF hot changes that difficulty, you will see a very interesting change in gw2.
3. I wouldn’t care about ascended if I didn’t utterly hate, and I mean hate, crafting. I hate that. With a passion. If there were really other ways to get it that were reasonable, such as drops from hard earned pve encounters, I think I would find it interesting. Now, I don’t find it interesting, stimulating, or worthy.
I personally believe it is a mistake that they are tying new weapons to one spec/trait line. I really dont see any reason as to why.
But I’m tinfoil, and I think they will go back to old weapons and tie them to “core” spec/trait lines too, so I’m probably not the best person to listen to.
If rifles pierced by default that would be a great help.
I also think if they had a 1300 range just for a little bit of incentive and to match the character of the weapon, that would be great.
I remember when killshot was 5000 range! It was to much, but I could see a skill like that at 2000 range. I always thought engi mortar should have been 3000 range it was so hard to use it… Could have given it a niche in defending…
I’ve agreed on this for years. There is no reason for gw2 to not have a particle effect slider, ESPECIALLY in a game that is skill/twitch based and you need to see your enemy of bosses animations, and ESPECIALLY as they push open world zerg.
Get anet to invest in them.
But they wont because their metrics show that not enough people play them to make more.
Bit I bet more people would run them if they fixed stacking and Ai tactics.
Torch hands down!
20 / 40 / 60
Virtue passives need better balance with actives. Actually, to make them better than signers, they should retain 50% of their passives effect she on CD, because a signrt as a prof mechanic jst isn’t very strong.
I like what they said during elite spec that passive traits will still be active, but for non elite it just needs more.
Precision/Power, Power/Precision, Toughness/Vitality
(basically power, precision, toughness or power, precision, vitality with power or precision as the main stat)I know Captain’s exists, but there isn’t really a way to get it (is it PvP only?)
Captains is good, but I would like roughness switched with vitality on certain professions because of base armor and base hp differences.
Power > vital, precision
I think like how they added wells and shield to mesmer, necro will get:
Greatsword and Elixirs! Toxic group dmg and support.
Just guessing though. Could be cantrips, too.
I have a sylvari warrior. I usually scale size down on toons, and did so with this one.
Problem is, every 1H sword looks like a 2H sword on him. I’ve had this issue with 1H swords before.
Is this just a 1H sword issue with how they scale the art?
Or if I were to pick the largest sylvari, would the 1H Sword actually look more like a 1H Sword in his hand? Anybody played around with this?
It’s funny that Gaile will say that they wont Change it.
But when you start your account, they don’t tell you it can’t b changed, and you also don’t know f someone has already picked that name for a character already.
Poor design.
No, I was only able to get about 1/3 of them. My focus was not on skillpoints, it was getting to events on time and not missing them.
Still seems like you could use shield w/o the new f5. Will make carrying weapons in bags more of a hassle based on spec.
Have they said how new weapons will interact with elite specializations?
Will I be able to use shield on mesmer and mix it in to any weapon set? Or only mixed in w any weapon set as long as chronomancer elite spec is part of the build?
Pro- not as bad as old system, freedom on where to explore.
Con 1- wvw people are screwed
Con 2- not alt friendly since it isn’t account bound. Time to think about honing my play time to two characters at most.
Con 3- if you have jumps through all of the events of the old system, those now count for nothing. kittened about that… I spent 1-80 following a trait event line all over the map and now it doesn’t even count??!
Youre right, not the end of the world, but why even state that it procs might if it never actually will?
And instead of just cutting that phrase, I’d like to see might proc, as well as guardian and defender runes, on reflect, not just block. Maybe those runes would find more use for more classes with reflect and block both proccing them (mesmer, engi)
With this new trait, blocking reflects, then you will no longer be able to gain might as reflect does not count as a block.
They will need to fix this if they leave paired up like this.
Actually, unless I’m mistaken that’s not the case. I’ve used the Might on Block trait with the Reflect before and have stacked a healthy amount of might, especially from Rangers who don’t know how to cancel their Rapid Fire.
No, and it doesn’t proc runes of the guardian or defender either.
Unless they have changed it since I last checked.
Yeah, I wish we knew exactly how many new zones we’re getting and how big they’re going to be. When the game launched there was what? 22 large zones to explore?
I hope there’s at least half that many in the expansion.
My guess is 3 new zones.
Colin said they dont really want a very big world.
Expect no more than Southsun, Drytop, and Silverwastes as far as size goes.
Yeah, I wish we knew exactly how many new zones we’re getting and how big they’re going to be. When the game launched there was what? 22 large zones to explore?
I hope there’s at least half that many in the expansion.
Haha, prepare to be Super disappointed on that level.
I will say for myself that if they pull off traits and character development well, there is a lot of content that I could enjoy… Right now its too boring.
With this new trait, blocking reflects, then you will no longer be able to gain might as reflect does not count as a block.
They will need to fix this if they leave paired up like this.
Everytime I play a charr and get to that zone with the wall and the Ascalonian ghosts that have an arcane glow and use all arcane skills and frostbow that is actually arcane, I so want them to make an ele that plays and looks like that…
We have no idea if it will cost anything in addition to hero points.
I certainly wouldn’t rule it out
^ exactly that! Worried…
I don’t get some of the comments here. Makes it sound like you bought all of the traits, never got them all or are grandfathered in.
I only have maybe 1/3 of my traits at this point, and I have been pursuing them my entire time leveling from 1 to 80. It literally took going trait event to trait event all over the map to get what i acquired, and I not even done yet.
I am doing what was designed and I will have thrown all of that time away if I don’t get to keep those traits.
(edited by petespri.6548)
…will I not be able to keep them?
I jumped through the event hoops on my guardian on the old system, going trait to trait and using daily reward tomes. I have very few skill points as a result of chasing the trait event guide to 80…
So now will I be screwed when they convert to this system, because I didn’t do many skill points since I was so busy chasing traits? If I did all of that hard work for traits not to keep them, I will be very displeased.
I like how they are making elites and heals skill types. Couple other good things, namely how they combined a number of traits.
Still a bit worried about
1. Only picking three lines.
2. That it may not be account bound, and every character that I level will feel like its sole mission is to run around getting points.
3. Some traits concern me. I love that warriors shield skills were put together, but I wonder if they know that when you reflect, blocking no longer procs things like runes or the even the other part of the same trait (might on block) since you are no longer proccing a block, but a reflect!
Still though, I am much more excited about this and HoT with this reveal! I’m glad they shared.
(edited by petespri.6548)
I am encouraged by this. This will make or break the expansion, imo, and it feels like they are picking a good, comprehensive solution, though there are parts that I don’t like.
Still, I will hold off on buying hot until I play these base systems with a new character.
Overall, I agree with this trajectory. Good design choice overall, Anet. I am very much looking forward to finding out how this interacts and plays out with More Challenging Content.

I don’t see them implementing a second experience bar for traits. If they were planning on doing that, they wouldn’t need to take skill points away from level 80s. They’d also have to make sure that we would fill the traits experience bar without fail before level 80 as well as moving Grandmaster traits down below level 80 because otherwise when you turn 80 you have a conflict. That bar needs to be used for Masteries at that point rather than traits. Unless they have a system for 3 bars? (which, please god, no)
Unless they’ve figured out an elegant way to do all this, I think it’s too messy. Of course, this is probably exactly what they are looking at right now.
I think it’ll be open tab, select what trait line to bar-fill your way through
Like pvp tracks.
Bar filling is terrible, there is enough of that in the game already. I would much rather they go for a suggestion or two on the old thread over a “masteries-like” bar to grind out.
Or just revert.
(edited by petespri.6548)
They should just axe healing power and all associated armor sets as all the modifiers/coefficients are too small to be with investing in it as a stat.
So we have this Tuesday and next Tuesday to hopefully see an actual update to the trait system and 2 more weeks to hear…anything really.
Anet? Still playing this one close to your chest?
Is the world ending after next Tuesday? I’m not sure I understand the limiter here. The way I see it, they’ve got an endless number of Tuesdays stretching out before them.
Oh they do.
I was just “giving” them the out of getting us some kind of info in the month of the day that they set all this nonsense off.
As in, they started this last April, the least they could do is fix it in April or if nothing else ACTUALLY give us real detail about what is to come.
I think they have told us, looking back.
“It’s going to be like masteries!”
Mastery info… Fill a bar to incrementally progress X.
Ergo,
Traits, fill a bar to pick a trait… Yawn.
They don’t have any fix yet. That much is obvious.
At best they are planning on making it a bar to grind out like masteries. Pick a trait when bar full. Oh, and you can use gems to fill the bar completely.
Mark my words, this xpac and trait change will see a huge push in monotizing all of these systems.
They can’t answer or talk about them because ncsoft made them do an expansion. MO was all about LS.
That’s why there is so little actually out. I will be surprised if there is any more landmass thsn SW and dry top.
Masteries is just more grind bars.
Revenant does look like they put some time into.
All of the new system and probably traits are looking just like hoops and bars to grind out…
^
I was so hoping for more, different weapons and combo sets, skills, challenging content.
It just isn’t there, they would have brought it up if it was.
Like was said, they have decided to make more hoops to jump through. I’m not excited anymore.
This has made me realize that it is important to have a second game that you enjoy. Eso is a good alternative that fits my needs nicely.
You never know what direction companies will turn, good to have alternatives.
I like the physical idea.
I also think a baseline change would be good. Make it so that it heals more when less Condis are cleansed…ie, if you cleanse three condos, heals less, no condos heals more.
I could see mending actually getting use if it was a shout…
CD reduction, extra cleanse w trooper runes, extra heal with healing shouts.
I want to use mending, it just heals for so little you can’t stay up hp wise.
