ooh ooh ooh , for the ten years anniversary I have a great idea,

deep in the eye of the north Gwen awakes ,
A strange dream she has had about the future,
dragons and people yet born,
She shakes off this strange feeling and with that heads back inside,
as she enters GW2 is transform back into GW1 and then the Murasat attack by unleashing the dragons as they are the true masters of Tyria .

Well lol sounded good in my head .
Anyways looking forward to the Ten year mark too see what the team comes up with.

cheers

Gw1 system was so much better then the current crap RNG based one , at least you knew where to farm if you wanted something,

Wow, please be a troll.

Wow don’t think old Phabby here has ever been called a troll before.

I think I could have expanded on my statement alot further but I really didn’t feel I needed to.
As some ppl have pointed out in GW1 you knew where to farm for any item that you felt the need to farm for, sure rng was there however the loot tables were very specific to the areas.
In Gw2 it is far from that setup and the loot table and RNG are world based which was never going to be in anyone’s favor.

Now don’t get me wrong I do not mind at all the RNG of GW1, I would still be chasing my MPB if I ever go back, as I feel some items should be near impossible to obtain. The reason for this is the dedicated farmer who does spend the time to acquire an item, Like the MPB, should feel that sense of achievement and know that everyone will be in awe of his dedication in achieving that goal.

The current system is flawed majorly and puts a massive downer on playing the game, even the comments from John in the BLT thread on RNG makes you question things.
Johns comments Simplified
There is no DR
Magic find is valuable and works
there is only a small percentage of players in the low minority that RNG hates and a small minority in the High that RNG loves, everyone else is in the middle.

So do you really think that the current system is working or was the original system in GW1 better?

Cheers

I’m sorry you got that impression, Faux. And I can tell you — hand on heart — that we absolutely love holidays and love that our players enjoy them, too. They’re not an interruption — they’re a valued part of the game! I don’t see the wording as you do, but I just want you to know we’re delighted to bring this wonderful tradition into the game during Halloween and Wintersday, and we’re looking forward to playing it ourselves!

Gaile, I remember the GW1 events were always fun and so happy they have continued and expanded the experiences of each holiday event they way they have done.
By far the most impressive the team delivered each year where the April Fools day ones, showed just how much the Devs loved the community and the thought they put in every time which made us so excited each year to see what trick they would play on us all. for me the stick figures were the funniest lol

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

phabby.8945

The idea is to discuss RNG as a concept inside of games and reward systems. I think more discussion will lead to better understanding of the problems current systems may have, and the pros and cons of other possible systems.

John, could you give us a bit direction here? I’m not quite sure what specifics we could/should discuss… it seems pretty one-sided that many think RNG is bad and tokens could work.

At the heart, there’s 3 basic options:
1. Mostly RNG
2. No RNG
3. Hyrbid RNG (where most games are)

starter concepts for cons of each system:

1. Many players can feel like they have “bad luck”, in fact players with standard to pretty good luck are still likely to feel bad because of how humans interpret data.

2. A completely predictable experience lacks moments when something fantastic happens.

3. You run the risk of getting the cons of both systems without very precise design

An important question may be to ask if a model is still a good concept and a great implementation just needs to be focused on or if the model doesn’t work fundamentally.

What was the system in GW1? That seamed to work well didn’kitten

I just tried to edit the very last 2 words and umm I never put the word kitten in there its spose to say Didn’t It

hey guys ty for the reply’s

Sounds to me .Smooth Penguin that your in the cluster of high drop rates of RNG that John said exists or the top side of the normal range. now don’t get we wrong on any level of being jealous as I am far from that .
The problem with RNG is the bottom cluster is appearing, from all the comments on here and in game, to be way to large then should be according to what John has said it should be a very small minority and I just would like to know how they measure the actual in game level and if the MF is working as it should or is there a bug that they haven’t picked up on in their assessments.

Wanze I was only using the precursors as a reference due to the current thread on complaints about the game Hrs put in and the lack of Pre’s and decent drops of any kind.
For a casual player like my self I find it completely pointless to play when I can spend hrs farming mobs in all different areas and get either next to nothing or just junk to salvage. Coming from GW1 I loved chest farming and doing areas like DOA and knowing you were going to be rewarded with something shiny at the end of the play time that you would keep for collections or sell for a little extra gold.

Bubs wants daddy time so thats all I can think of now cheers guys

John I have another question in relation to all this.

You say that RNG and magic find is working as intended, how do you that it is indeed working?

Sure if its working then by your own comments there are some people in the high cluster range , most people in the middle range and only a slight few in the low cluster range. From all the threads out on the lack of drop rates and the amount of players complaining about Hrs/precursor drops, it seams that there are a huge percentage of players in the low cluster then defined by how RNG and magic find should be working.

Now I for one never like to assume anything and forgive me for having no clue on programming or anything techie stuff, I am sure some ppl here will jump in, but if the answer to the question is based on figures from data stuff and not relying on actual game play input could the entire RNG/ magic find base line of programming be corrupt giving incorrect data as a result and be the problem of why everyone is having issues with RNG/ magic find.

I have a question for you John, you stated that RNG isn’t tied to the users account directly, from how I read it.
So my Question is why isn’t it when it is the user that should determine the level of luck involved with the amount of work they put into farming for something ?

The way I have seen how things are playing out on the forums is that there are alot more players set in the unlucky cluster then there should be if RNG was working correctly, especially since the introduction of the mega server, which should have increased drop rates across the board with the increase of players within a designated server applying more hits to RNG.

I really don’t like the idea of point 2 onward , as coming from GW1 the best feeling in game was farming for the drop that you wanted and receiving it for your hard work ( although I never got my MPB lol) ,and I feel that a cop-out token to basically say here sorry the system isn’t working for you would be a giant step backward.

One other question I have is it seams that the loot table seams to not be isolated to zones when it comes down to the bottom end of the tables. You can get the same drops across multiple zones .
Q then: If these drops were removed from multiple zones and isolated to one zone only each would that increase the RNG of the higher end items of the loot tables?

I hope everyone can understand what I am trying to put across

Cheers Phabby

Loot and the lack thereof

simply Gw1 had a better loot system where if you wanted a specific item you knew where and who to farm to get it. Almost every expansion Boss had at least 1 item assigned to them and some had multiply items. Sure the chances were slim on some items to obtain but if you really desired that 1 item you had the option of farming till you drop.

Gw2 needs to bring back some of that feeling from GW1 in farming and get rid of the RNG as it dosn’t work , eg: I had never done the new Teq till a week ago so according to RNG I should get something decent since I havent been in that map for like ever, yet my reward was pathetic to say the least for completing Teq. I got 1 rare the rest was crap. So I won’t be going there again and wasting my time or effort for nothing.

There is no fun in farming anywhere in GW2, if you farm in a low level you get the same crap as you do in farming in any high level.

And I really miss the chest farming from GW1 lol

Glad your feeling better there Chris, here is a topic for a glance over while your resting up.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Exotic-drop-rate-problem

This is one of my main problems with the game like everyone else that has commented in that thread and the never ending threads on the subject. being a gw1 vet and knowing what the system was back then for loot and rewards it would be nice to finally have a decent discussion about this part of the game and why the team decided to go on the uncle Scrooge wagon, lol, and if there is a chance that it is time to do something more positive , if possible, for the players and update the RNG, Loot Tables , drop rates or what ever it is that gives so much heart ache to everyone.

it would even fix the issue with the pre cursor hunt/crafting , if the drops were normal like back in GW1 days.

Anyways rest up and hope you recover quick

some interesting reading the last few pages . I feel for Chris in here being the only one to really show up .

someone a page back said what about testing patches before they go live, which if you have been paying attention like the old garden gnome here, you would understand that they did have some ppl testing the new system and I think Colin or Mike even jumped into that thread on the subject of the testers, or someone close to them, using the information gained before patch release to control the market. everyone not happy about that one even the big boss.https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Insider-trading-is-kind-of-unfair/first

Back to the rest of the comments , I agree that even with the current level of communication from Chris and a few other devs, there should be some major input from the big guy Mike since just about every post currently up is so damming towards the game someone needs to be in here and take ownership of the situation.

I am pleased to see that GM Talon had taken the bull by the horns and created a thread for the patch so quickly after it went pear shape. This has shown me that you have learnt from the past mistakes of not addressing things as fast as you have this time.

Anyways cheers and great job Chris trying to calm the storm

Goal of Proposal

Allow a guild to purchase a map for a set time,say 12hrs.
The map would be an instance of the real map just locking everyone not in that guild out
Allows a Guild to farm as a unit, practise movement and bond over event chains
test their skill on major events like Teq
Risk
I spose the big risk would be guilds isolating themselves

Hi Phabby,

I didn’t get the short straw, I really enjoy working with you all on CDIs but to be fair I was a little burned out after the last set. This said it is my fault that there has been such a long gap in CDIs and no one elses. Glad to see so much excitement about the return of the initiative.

Chris[/quote]

I can see how you could get burnt out dealing with us all and see you would like to address communication in the first CDI, I think that it would be slightly more beneficial to the community to perhaps address a few of the top complaints that are the main focus of all the frustration.
Even if this was something that Mike can address properly while you take on the CDI topic, it may be a greater benefit for both sides to see that the biggest concerns are thought important to you guys as they are to the community.

I would say the top 3 complaints looking at the forums would be

1) Pre Cursor’s- The total lack of drops and no sign of a solution is a huge fustration

2) The SAB thingy- note I have not really played this as I didnt like it, however it has hurt the players that love this part of the game to no end.

3) RNG and Drops- my personal big issue which also ties into no 1 , is the total lack of drops for the effort that is put in. Coming from GW1 I can say this is a major thing missing in game that I wish had of been carried over from the orginal.

Anyways cheers Chris relax and have a Pint or 2

To have Mike pop on and say Hi is a nice treat but considering the current moral of the community and the toxic threads below that have been the norm of late , a ban-aid isn’t quiet the solution when a defibrillator is required.
I understand that your time is of immense value and limited but there is a growing need for some questions to be answered and not just browsed over ,as the passion of this community is one that has been built over the last 8 years.
Players are getting frustrated at the simple things that were done so well in GW1, that we know you guys can deliver, that are simply put on the back burner for the LS( note I do love this season alot more then the last).

Chris you seam to draw the short straw mate, so thank you for again stepping up when the padded cells are full, you will need a drink before the nite is done ill say.I haven’t gotten into the CDI format of things as it always seams to go wayward for my likings ,bit old school here .

Do you think that after nearly 2 years that it is time to change the Black Lion Keys to a vender item say for 1g each?

Most ppl that I know have at least a stack of chests and refuse to pay the ridicules price for the keys on the gem store, especially given the RNG or what ever its called.

Might be a nice bday present to give a stack of keys to everyone if we cannot get a more reasonable pricing system for the keys

Question for the teck head devs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: phabby.8945

phabby.8945

So after almost 2 years one of the main complaints is the lack of drops and the RNG that is in place to limit the botters.

So my question is if after all this time an account has been active ( real player) with no red flags could you implement a system that gets rid of the RNG and make drops more worth the effort of playing.

Any new account could have a time limit placed on the RNG thingy , but the players whom have shown their love for the game can be rewarded better for their efforts.

Bullkitten.

Send me your mini Panda or Kanaxai then. Send me your GW1 account name, and I’ll meet you somewhere.

hey mate first thing Kanaxai was the rarest mini released to the public and for an Asian tournament win so it was impossible to get unless someone was willing to sell which not many every did.

And you just confirmed my argument with the mini panda, it was a drop that you knew was rare and how to get it. And yes I tried but was unlucky.

that is my point that GW2 drops are pathetic compared to the GW1, there is nothing special to farm for. There is no current drop that anyone that plays can be proud to have earn’t for the rewarded effort put in. if you seen someone with a mini panda in gw1 you knew kitten well they earn’kitten due to not many were every traded.

Where is the prestige of an item in GW2 that cannot be brought, that takes effort to earn and that holds prestige. if precursors were that item that could be earn’t thru effort of game play and not just brought it would be worth it . but the current drop rate of next to 0 in playing the game for an item is a pathetic joke, especially with the RNG and nerfing to drops.

Precursor Talk

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

phabby.8945

I agree with the op, the problem isn’t just with precursors alone it is a problem with the entire thinking on Anets part with regards to drop rates for everything .there is just no fun in farming with no rewards. They had the perfect system in GW1 , if you really wanted something specific you could go hard and farm for it even if there was a 0.00000000009% chance of getting it.

Gw2 has taken away the feeling of reward for effort in playing the game , and instead replaced it with the Gem shop, which is starting to have its affect on the community, especially with the lack of communication on the precursors and loot, there is a +700 thread on precursors 4 pages back with no reply from anet on the subject, and that is not a good business model to have.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Having played just about every MMO and RPG out there, this frail, aging 44 year old gamer still finds that to this day, there are only two online games that he has given his most time to, World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2.

I gather you never played GW1?

The problem is all the very best parts of GW1 was left out and this has upset the dedicated GW players that put in over 7 years playing.
if you haven’t tried GW1 grab a copy and see what all the complaints are about.

I will say GW2 is a great looking game with alot of potential to be the very best, but you will understand the quote " if it ain’t broke don’t fix it" , and I am afraid the current direction has broken what GW’s is and was to alot of players.

phabby.8945

I am a little curious what founder Mr M. O’Brien currently thinks of the game and , after nearly 2 years, weather it has/is heading in the direction he thought it would and his thoughts on the following.

1) The move in the direction away from GW1 has upset alot of the players that dedicated so much time into the Gw’s franchise. Did you anticipate their reaction in this , or has it shock you a little to see so many players from GW1 feeling a little disappointed?

2) There seams to be alot of threads in regards to the RNG , lack of loot, rising precursor prices and current decisions to cut loot drops from the Crown Pavilion .
Given that GW1 had such amazing and unique drops why have you chosen to go the current way of thinking ,if this is hurting your player base?

3) I am , like many players, amazed at the details that the designers have put into the game , it looks so amazing when you play and take the time to stop and just look around. Did you expect it to be as good as it has turned out , or did the team really surprise you with some WOW moments/ places within the game ?

That’s all I will say at the moment and hope that maybe you have a spare moment to pop in and say hi.

I am sure ppl would like too add some question’s that you would like to ask Mr M. O’Brien , if he would answer , so please no comments on the questions , if you have a question please add one or two and you never know we may just get a response.
probably have better luck at getting a pre drop lol but worth a shot.

The complete problem I see with gw2 and the kitten rng ,is anyone that played gw1 knows that certain items were always hard to get, however you knew that if you ran a certain chest that there was AT LEAST the chance of getting what you set out to get, eg Mini Polar Bear
Gw2 has no such format and I think this was/is one of the biggest mistakes of the game, that they have not accommodated the gw1 farming/collectors .If you knew you could run a certain chest for the chance at a set precursor ,regardless of the drop%, it would satisfied everyone , from the guy whom needs it for his legendary too the farmer and ppl that like collecting stuff

Collaborative Development: World Population

in CDI

Posted by: phabby.8945

phabby.8945

My thoughts

-lower pop cap per map —spreads everyone out
-combine both NA and EU severs —balances timezones
- free transfers to low pop servers-- spreads everyone out

Now I don’t think that will happen so another way to look at things

Server 1- 100ppl on map = Nerfed skill dmg 50%
Nerfed speed 50%
Nerfed seige dmg 50%

Server 2- 50ppl on map = no changes

Server 3 – 20ppl on map= Buff skill dmg 50%
Buffed speed 50%
buffed seige dmg 50%

Or something like that that reduces a large zergs impact on a map and allows ppl with very few players on to be competitive against a larger zerg.
So in a weird theory a high pop server has no advantage with numbers over a low pop sever ,in fact a major disadvantage , forcing servers to self regulate and spread out over all servers. off cause Anet would have to then be more concise about wvwvw populations.

What I gather from things (correct me if I am wrong) Wvwvw is played in a seperate zone on a server, so If that is the case why Not create a starting wvwvw Map seprate from the pve server, and not part of the match. this Map could also allow guilds to purchase their own Guild Camps and give us back our much loved and missed guild hall type area.

well that’s my stupid thoughts hope I have given something useful to discus

Cheers Phabby

What about bringing back chests to the world

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

So how about it, In GW1 we had chests all over the open world to go and farm.

This had players out and about constantly farming chests for that ever elusive drop/or collectable.I think it would be better then the current system of only having chests for world bosses that create the Zerg/lag feast that is currently out.

The chests could be set like the way we farm nodes that certain zones have keys for that level and progress up and have the opportunity to drop different weapons and stuff.

this would increase players to zones all over

Is anyone else finding the drop rate on the other items nil or have they been dropping or is my usual luck in play

Forced into crafting?

Not sure if this has been said but why have you,Anet, forced us into crafting with the new Ascended Mats.

I personally hate crafting and I bet there are many like me out there.

By making the ascended mats account bound you are forcing us to craft ,or destroy and excess mats we get.

Already in 2 days I have nearly 2 stacks of Bloodstone dust, which is now a loss for every amount gathered over a stack.
These should be like the rest of the mats and be able to be sold or traded, which would boost players that like to craft but don’t like to farm.

Please consider changing these Ascended Mats to allow freedom to do with them as we please.

New Content drop rates over the top

This is getting a joke the new Support ticket drop rates is madding to say the least.

They have taken over every wooden chest world wide at a 100% rate since their introduction . Not 1 single drop of a wooden chest is anything other then these tickets ,especially in wvw which is hard enough to make money in.

can someone look into this please

Unusual Drops

so farming yesterday I had a funny drop that I can’t find any info on

Blue Wurm Husk
looks like a blue wurm husk
“must be from a Blue Bug”

Now it shows up as junk loot , but it is still a strange drop IMO, and it got me thinking what other strange drops are out there that you have come across?

And does anyone know anything about this one?

A Gentleman's Agreement

With the random occurrence of the Fiery Greatsword skill that continues to breach tower doors I think a combined agreement for all to follow should be made.

If you do happen to pass thru the wall using the FGS immediately start to jump up and down, to show everyone it wasn’t intentional ,then continue to jump making your way out of the tower via the wall not engaging in any combat.

If someone starts the jumping, showing their intention to leave the area , do not go for the easy kill just let them leave the tower and rejoin their group. They are showing their respect by not taking advantage of this bug so there is no need for you to not show them the same respect and just let them leave.

I hope that all the guild leaders can see to sign this agreement and to make it known to all players in their respective Guilds that this is an accepted bug and solution for all that encounter it .

Please share your thoughts

More importantly TW and Indo were a huge part of shaping JQ’s WvW community during beta and for the first couple of months after release so many of their members still have friends and former guild mates on JQ. They have always said they would be returning home once they accomplished everything they set out to do on SoR. You never know, maybe they will stick around awhile once they see how hard we continue to fight on with limited resources but I think Indo will always be ever careful about creating another bandwagon situation on any world.

TW is one of the few guilds out there that actually practices what they preach in trying to maintain balanced fights (along with Laylyn from BG who never seems to get a lot of support from his own server in his efforts) and looking for strong competition across worlds. I expect the reason they did not chose to visit DB this week instead has more to do with playing the new glicko system than anything else. It would not help to promote more even match-ups in the future to inflate DB’s rating and then leave them high and dry the next week whereas keeping JQ’s numbers solid helps to ensure more BG/SoR/JQ sets for the best competition under the new system. It will be interesting to see what changes to scoring ANET has in mind for the next batch of WvW fixes tho. Trying to think long term now might not pay off in the manner expected.

So you have managed in no short terms shoot your self in the foot so to speak.
If TW didnt want to goto Db in case they stuffed their glicko system up for them then leave ,then the same can be said in regards to going to JQ. They have even by a small chance shifted JQ’s scoring in the new system giving a complete false reading on that servers performance. JQ has been a highly respected server by all however if they in there current state cannot hold their own then the new server system will adjust them accordantly, however SOR cant have that can they, as you have pointed out Indo has a vested interest in keeping JQ next to Sor in the match ups which looks very sus.

If Indo was concerned about balance then he should of stayed were he was at SOR and let the new system do its job, however it seams from the obvious choices made that no he wants to control his match ups to have SOR and JQ in the same match, even if they don’t atm deserve to be there. So the obvious view that anyone can deduce is that without JQ ,SOR cannot take on BG.

It is quiet apparent over the last few weeks that JQ’s power has shifted and in this weeks match up it shows, If SOR is going to continue to carry JQ then the system is broken before it gets of the ground and that isnt fair to any server in any match up on here, and if the mighty Indo states he wants “balance” then leave things alone to sort them selves out.

I honestly don’t care if TW wants more fights cause their match up is weak this week around, but what they have done is not allow the new system to do its job, instead he wants to bolster JQ’s rating, which isnt fair to them either.

LOL at TW jumping onto jq, if they were serous about wanting action they should of helped out DB.

Shows everyone in every tier that SOR and JQ have to double team every server that can put a decent fight up ,like BG, to win. Really childish servers they have become that they cannot ,,or will not, fight each other since they are so buddy buddy that if they get split up and ones in trouble ohh we will come help you guys for the brotherhood of SOQ .

It really is becoming a sad state for every other tier to challenge either of these 2 servers on a fair battle ground if they are in the same match up.

WvW Wish list

So whats your wish for wvw????

I know mine is

1) stop the one hit on keep doors to contest them
2) Buff to Thief’s Stealth
3) new bigger maps

hope you all share your wish list maybe the devs might add some of them into the game in the near future

cheers

Buff to Thief stealth? Are you serious? I can never, ever catch a Thief one vs. one.

My point is that they need to be buffed so we can kill them. It is a joke that this class is allowed a GOD mode in wvw. No other class has the ability to kill everything at will and no be killed. And before you childish thief’s jump on and try and defend your class Seriously think about it. You have to be one really bad thief to die in wvw and that is the problem. You have no repair costs, you take badges and loot at will and no other class can do this and that is an unfair advantage to all other classes .

If a thief is in combat mode they shouldn’t be allowed to stealth away and regen to full and come back to the fight when it suits them. Buff it so when they are in combat they have the same slowness as other classes are crippled with and give them a regen skill to suit.
lol I know a little bit of a rant , but I feel that since the devs continue to avoid this subject we will all have to do a bit of rannting till they listen.

Back on subject -

how about Guild Capes for wvw as well

cheers
